Cesar or Tempest here. First edition to the normal slice of life stuff in this series. Note that it isn't going to show anything special and can be completely dismissed. Enjoy!
"Where are you taking me this time?" I was sitting with Bea beside the shore. She wanted to go on another date and I had no clue where to take her. Luckily Beck helped me out.
"Well it's technically in camp. But it isn't at the same time." I answered sheepishly, rubbing the back of my neck. Hopefully she's fine with this.
"Go on." She raised an eyebrow in suspicion.
"Well Beck and his cabin made a really high quality VR system that makes you feel like you're there. Now I know it doesn't sound that exciting but if you don't like it I'll try to make it up to you with an actual date. Is that okay?" I asked nervously. Can't ruin my chances so quickly. It's only the second date.
She sighed. "This better be good. Or you'll have to do something amazing."
"So you'll do it?" I asked again.
"Yeah I'll do it." Sweet.
"Okay let's go." I got up, dusted off my clothes and reached my hand out to help her. Which she declined and got up herself. Guess this is why chivalry is dead.
We took several detours avoiding places Cee would be at until we arrived at the Cabins entrance. I knocked three times. And out comes Beck with a dungeons and dragons t-shirt, fake white beard and a wizard hat. "Oh yeah. Dungeons and Dragons Thursday."
"You really didn't plan this out did you?" Bea asked, looking at me quite menacingly.
"Well I don't want to lie so no." Beck just stayed staring at the two of us while his beard slowly peeled off. "Uh hey Beck. You remember that VR thing you were talking about. Is it cool if me and Bea play something on there?" He nodded silently. "Uh ok." He opened the door completely and we walked inside. Where various members of the cabin were dressed in all sorts of costumes. "Hey Jake. What's up with Beck."
Jake was wearing cat ears and a maid costume. "He's taken a vow of silence like his character. He's quite serious about it too." Beck nodded in agreement. Well that explains that.
Beck led us to his bed where he pressed a big red button that caused the floor to begin falling to another level. Which was completely bare except for a computer, two monitors and the headset I presume. Beck pulled out a notepad and wrote on there. 'Put on the headset. We've only optimized one game. Do not worry about space, the ground will move with the game.' Well that's nice.
"Uh I'll go first or unless you want to Bea?" I asked, scratching the back of my neck again. God why am I so nervous?
She shook her head. "No you go ahead, I'll watch first." I walked over and put the headset on my head and it expanded into a helmet.
"Whoa what the fuck." It snapped all around me pretty fast.
Beck wrote on his notepad 'Don't worry it's perfectly normal." And gave a quick thumbs up. Well ok. I saw him write and show something to Bea.
She walked up to me and began counting down with her fingers. "3..2..1" Boom an explosion of oddly familiar heavy metal and I was slammed to the floor. Which now transformed into a table.
"What the fuck!" My arms were chained to the sides and this zombie thing was walking closer to me. The room was filled with blood and smelt like iron. I broke the chains without trying with a simple pull and punched the zombie thing whose head exploded. "What type of fucking game is this Beck?" No answer. I found a door and it automatically opened. "Oh no." It was a green armor with a helmet that had a hellish mark on the side. I was in Doom 2016. "Out of all the fucking games you could've optimized Beck why this one? Couldn't you have done animal crossing?" Once again no answer. I put on the helmet and slipped into the armor which was surprisingly light. I picked up the pistol and shotgun from a dead guy's body before shooting it in the head. I then got prepared for the first room. Should be easy right, it's just the beginning. I was so wrong. The door opener and where two Hell Knights, a Mancubus and a shit ton of other demons were waiting. " Fuck." I shot my pistol at the Hell Knight closest to me and it walked through it like nothing. Gotta keep moving, that's the goal of the game. Then the bullets started flying. I ducked behind cover and tried running around to get rid of the weaker demons. But the Hell Knights were right on my tail and the Mancubus was shooting rockets at me. So much fucking noise. My ears were bleeding from the heavy metal, explosions and roars of the demons. I managed to shotgun a few out of pure luck. Before I remembered. I'm the fucking Doom Slayer. They can't kill me. I ditched my pistol and began beating the shit out of demons before getting blindsided by a Hell Knight. It was like getting hit by a train and I couldn't feel anything. But I saw that thing rip to shreds until the screen faded black. I took off the helmet and sat on the ground in silence. "I'm never doing that shit again. Unless I get some easier rooms first."
"Well you're not going to be playing again, it's my turn." Bea responded, grabbing the Helmet.
"Wait, are you sure? It's crazy in there." She nodded her head.
"I'll be fine." Before she put on the helmet. Oh god. I hope Beck goes easy on her.
I looked over to Beck. "Can you give her an easier level?"
He shook his head. 'Only level we made so far.' Fucking hell this is something the Hephaestus cabin would do. I hope she'll be ok. I walked over to the monitors and watched as he followed my actions pretty well and got to the door to the main part. The door opened and she sprinted and shotgunned one of the Hell Knights in the face before hitting it with the butt of her shotgun. She turned and shotgunned the other one repeatedly until the familiar glowing yellow appeared and she ripped apart the hell knight using an animation I had never seen before. Then she jumped and ripped out the eye socket of the Mancubus and put the shotgun in its place, firing five more times. She ripped the arm of the dead Mancubus and began firing it at the rest of the demons leaving a room of blood and guts.
"Is that all you got? I want to rip and tear even more of these demons." She yelled her armor covered with blood and partially destroyed.
Beck, whose beard had completely come off, turned to me. "Jaxson. Are you sure you want to date this girl?"
I had no answer. Not after what I just saw. "I don't know Beck I don't know."
Well I don't know how slice of life this is but it sure was fun to write. I have another one planned as a Halloween one but that's probably going to come out way later and it's already past Halloween. Well let me know how y'all like this change of pace. And the next chapter will be out soon I'm almost done. With that Tempest or Cesar out.
