Eifion deals with the second culprit, Isaac… things become murky at best.
Eifion had been thinking more on the situation after the talk he had with Simone. With all things to be considered, he handled the situation to the best of his ability. But hearing that Isaac was involved, it just made his stress levels skyrocket.
He didn't like how everything turned out. Not only was Killua drugged… but Isaac was slipped something as well. Even the way he pressed Simone, ultimately didn't work out too well… seeing him breaking down after having his thesis almost ripped from his hands, it was heartbreaking, even if it would've been the right thing to do at that time…
But if the boy could offer small improvements in the medicine department, without forcing whatever he did to get it to work on Killua, he might make a slight improvement for those suffering from mental health issues.
The boy had seen the errors of his way, that his actions had consequences… hopefully, he'll not make the same mistake again.
As he thought about the situation on a whole, he was jotting down these points, making notes to report this situation to the parties that needed to know this information. With everything that's going on now, he'd expected to have more paperwork. Not everything had to come out, and if teachers heard whispers, he'll make sure to stomp them out, to stamp out the embers that could burn people's moral to the ground.
He knows it would be wrong to hide this information from his fellow teachers, but Simone needed this chance, to redeem himself. Kicking him to the curb will only make the situation worse.
He'll not allow a student to take his own life, just because he fucked up…
Even Vastorie would agree with him here. And the teachers who'll scream at him for making the wrong call, most of them would be considered hypocrites if they learned the truth about Vastorie…
Eifion paused, bringing up his hand to rub his forehead and closed eyes…
He had been pushing himself too much…
Considering all the stuff he's been going through; he wouldn't be surprised if Luca visited him. He has been over-working himself, there's no doubt about it. The man usually came to him during these types of situations to check upon him.
Granted, the last time he spent time with the man, he did enjoy it. He liked the prospect of being held, to be cared for… at least, in the way that man showed him that night. It had happened a few more times since then, but given the work he placed on Killua and Daniel, he had denied the last few times as well.
After he deals with the situation, looks over Simone's research, he might need a little bit of R & R. Luca should be up for that, provided he's even willing to let him in, after being pushed away so many times.
He should also probably invite the man over, to help him cycle through the information, there will be a lot to go through. If he doesn't get someone, he trusts to help him look over the information, he'll be putting himself through a lot more stress.
Eifion heard a knock at his door. He took a moment to look up from his monitor "Come in…" he uttered before turning returning to his work, typing away the remainder of his report, filling in blanks where he could.
The door cracked a fraction, allowing the student to stick his head inside the door, "You wanted to see me?"
"AH, yes… come in." The man stopped typing, shutting off his screen just in case the boy could see what he was working on before entering the room. Holding out a hand, the man gestured for the young boy to take a seat.
Isaac, stepped into the room, a little worried about the situation. Being called to the deacon's office usually meant a bad thing in most cases, "I can come back later if you're busy?"
"Nonsense, I make time for my students…"
"But you called me here…"
"You right…" Eifion offered an aloof smile. The boy was right, but he needed to make the boy comfortable, just in case this semi-interview went poorly "it's just a few questions. I'm just filling out a few reports now."
The boy offered a nod before taking a seat before the man, now more worried about the situation.
"Relax, no need to stress out." At least not yet… Please don't be worse than what happened with Simone. The man didn't know if he could take on any more stress.
"So…" Isaac paused, drumming his fingers along his legs as he thought about his situation, "what did you want to talk about?"
"This is more of a check-up, to see how you're going…" The man looked over the boy, taking note of his fidgeting. He was too much of an open book right now, so he needs the boy to relax before he can press him with more intense questions "Tell me about how your Nen training is going."
Relieved from the question, the boy beamed widely, "It's going good. Kyle is a scary teacher at times, but he's genuinely understanding, taking the time to make sure I do things right."
"That's good to hear… what about Daniel? How is he as a teacher?"
"Hmm…" Isaac thought about his situation. From the few times Daniel took over for Kyle, he is a similar type of teacher… but he's less hands-on, more verbal, "He's okay… but he doesn't train me as much as Kyle does."
"That's not good…" He'd need to talk with Daniel, find out why he had been pushing the boy aside. He didn't want to lay in blame on the boy, but his acts may have been pushing Isaac away, which could be the main reason things happened the way they did.
But then again… he may be reading too far into, especially, if this was because of Isaac's thinking process.
Daniel may have made a mistake, but he highly doubts that boy did anything to earn a drink that would've otherwise made him either a horn dog like Killua or more open than his partner was prepared for right now.
Although, as soon as Killua had woken up, surely the two of them would've talked about what happened that night. Maybe he should speak to the boys again, to see how they are going.
Isaac shook his head, "I'd prefer Kyle, he's a better teacher in my own opinion. I like the hands-on approach…"
"That's good…" The man paused, "How about personality-wise, are they treating you okay?"
"Yup! They're quite kind to me… they both are."
Huh… so Daniel hadn't been pushing Isaac away? Something else had to be wrong with the situation then. If Isaac didn't attempt to drug Daniel because he been treating the boy poorly, why did the boy react in the manner he did…? Looks like he'll have to keep probing for more information, "You mentioned Kyle is scary at times. Can you expand on that?"
"Yes… When he gets upset at me… he has this… dangerous look in his eyes, I guess? I understand why though. He's angry at me for taking shortcuts… He said I do the task given to me; however, the problem is I didn't do it in the way he expected of me."
The boy looked down at his hands, unable to pull his aura forward. He knows why… but even with the rules being enforced, at this very moment… even without the restrictions, he wouldn't feel like he'll be able to meet Kyle's expectations right now "For Ren, I'm supposed to cover my whole body, so I don't put pressure on just individual body parts, I have to apply it to my body… to be like a whirlpool and keep it swirling around me…"
Eifion shifted in his seat. From just listening to the boy's information so far, he can gauge what type of Nen trainer Killua was. He was brutally precise, expecting Isaac to follow a set standard. That could be good for some students, but he doesn't know who to feel about the boy using his dangerous aura to make a point during the student's training.
In any case, he'll have to acknowledge the situation if Killua has been pushing one of his students too much, "Ah, yes…" The man offered a nod, "Ren, and even Ten, require you to be attentive to how your aura is flowing around your body. Too much pressure can backfire, but untrained focus can be just as deadly… However, going by what you told me so far… it looks like you'll have an easier time with Ko. But to be fair, that requires you to amass aura in specific points of your body…"
"Yeah… he taught me Ko just to prove how poorly I was practising…"
"Hmm…" Eifion looked at how the boy felt so weak within that moment. He was judging himself harshly, and he didn't know if that's because how the boy spoke about Killua, or because he didn't feel like he was meeting the boy's standards, "What I would say in this instance is… not everyone is perfect. I'm sure Daniel and Kyle have their own, weakness… they just found ways how to deal with it."
"Are you sure? They kinda… seem not only perfect…" At least Kyle seems that way to me… "They exhibit the presence of strength…"
Eifion gave the boy once over. During a moment he paused, he hid an internal feeling. The question is… what was that feeling of enrapturing about? "I see… Has there been a time where either of them gotten upset at you?"
"Besides when making mistakes, no… They don't necessarily yell at me. They talk me through my mistakes."
That's strange…? He just made a contradiction just now… Didn't the boy mention that Killua got upset with him for making a huge mistake? Yet, he just now said they tended to talk him through his problems. It could be an assumption on his part… maybe he should dig a little further here "Both of them…?"
"Yeah, they're really sweet about it… why?"
"I'm just making sure…" The man paused, thinking more about how off the situation felt. He might need to clarify a few things once he asks more direct questions "Have you ever gotten upset at them? For something they said or did?"
The boy shook his head, "No… they tend to be understanding about the situation."
The man frowned; if he's the one who took the drug, it doesn't sound like he gave it to Daniel or Killua. He showed no incentives for drugging them… he had no motives behind his actions. Or maybe, the boy's motives were lingering under his answers… just like that temporary moment, his thoughts lingered to something else… something hidden.
Playtime was over. He'll have to hit him with harder questions.
"Is everything okay, Mr Mattocks?"
"Sort of… You see," the man sat upright, his expression now stern as he looked at the boy with a questioning gaze "there's been an incident with one of your roommates. Simone, do you talk to him?"
"Yes…" Isaac no longer felt relax, becoming more worried with each passing second, "but we're not really… close, close. He sometimes helps me with my studies."
"He said he offered you a sample of one his drugs because… as he put it, you felt a little down about two boys."
"Ah…?"
"These boys wouldn't happen to be Daniel and Killua, would they?"
"No…?"
"Isaac, I want you to come clean." He leaned forward, head propped in his hands "Did you… or did you not take one of Simone's samples he was going to throw out?"
The boy looked down, defeated from the questions. He felt bad, but he couldn't hide it… not from the Deacon.
"I want to understand why you tried to use it on one of them?" He let his concerns linger in the tone of his voice, showing that even if he was to ultimately get angry at the boy for his actions, being talked through the situation… Having it explained to him why his actions were wrong, were just as important as being told off.
"I…" The boy swallowed thickly, "I didn't like how Daniel acted with Kyle. He hugged him… made the boy uncomfortable and embarrassed. You see, Daniel had been super tired during our last few sessions, always yawning… But Kyle was usually fine. While he was tired, he has been pestering Kyle… throwing himself at the boy, whether he wanted it to continue or not. Simone said whoever ingested the drug, would become an emotional mess. So, I thought if I gave it to Daniel and he acted clingier, Kyle wouldn't want to be around him any longer…"
The man sighed. The boy had malicious intents, more on the mild side of things, but the fact that he thought this way… clearly showed that he wasn't paying close attention to why Daniel acted so clingy with Killua. Nor did he take the time to process why his actions would have consequences.
Isaac was slow to understand even these sorts of things… the risks that were involved from acting on his selfish desires. If Killua were to hear about this, he'll be upset at Isaac for taking it upon himself to break them up, without, one, taking the time to understand the situation… and two, without knowing the consequences of using a drug that he couldn't even begin to fathom, was still in its infant trial stages "Kyle ended up ingesting the drink you slipped Daniel…"
Isaac's eyes widened, more worried about the other than his actions "Is he okay? I never meant to hurt him… It wasn't intended for him."
The man's eyes darkened. The boy didn't understand how much trouble he was in. He was more worried about Killua than the intended target. Did he have no compassion for Daniel, or was this just a ruse to get Killua to break up with his partner? Without realising, just how much the boys were in love with the other "You know… you have no idea how much trouble you're in. Your actions were not only selfish, you didn't take into consideration how Kyle would've felt! Sure, you may have considered your motives pure… but had you simply talked to them, tried to understand them better… You would've realised they're more than friends… they're partners…"
The boy's jaw dropped. He was now terrified, not having realised how much trouble he was in until the man's mildly angry tone was being directed at him. He didn't just mess up… he managed to fail to understand why his actions were wrong.
Could he even look Kyle in the face after what he has done…? Would he even be able to apologise for his lack of understanding?
The man raised an eyebrow. He can understand the terror, but not the confusion lingering in the boy's expression "Were you not there at the Christmas party?"
"No… I went home to my family that year."
"Then you wouldn't have seen then…"
"Saw…" He closed his mouth. Did he even deserve to know after what he tried to do?
The man sighed, frustrated at how this turned out. Isaac was getting depressed, instead of feeling guilty of his actions. Sure, he probably felt a little guilty, but not as much as he should be feeling "I should be expelling you for your actions."
"I-"
"I'm not finished… You attempted to hurt Kyle's partner, trying to build a rift between them. You didn't approach me, Kyle or Daniel to understand the situation better. However, I believe in second chances… even if your actions were inexcusable. Since Kyle came to no harm, I won't expel you…" The boy looked a little relieved, but Eifion's expression became stern, "What I will do, however, is move you to another teacher. Kyle will be undeniably upset, no… angry at you for trying to split them up… for your selfish reasons no less."
The boy offered a silent nod.
"Isaac, actions have consequences… you should know that by now. If you think Daniel was treating Kyle poorly, you should've come to me… not attempt to drug one of them. Also, this will be a mark on your student records. Two more mistakes, and I will expel you…"
The boy brought his legs up, before wrapping his arms around them. He felt terrible about the situation. Eifion was right, he shouldn't have pushed the situation like that… forcing Kyle to push his partner away because it looked like Daniel was treating him poorly in his eyes.
Eifion crossed his arms from the reaction, "I'll also be moving you to a different dorm, but for the moment, I expect you to apologise for your actions to Simone, even if he doesn't accept your excuse. I almost expelled him too, not just because of your actions, but for what he was doing behind the scenes. If you're offered drugs, you're not supposed to accept them. You should've come to me, and reported the incident…"
"But he wasn't being bad… he was trying to help me."
"Help you or not, what if you had a negative reaction from them? You could've been rushed to the nurse's office or worse… to the hospital. You need to think about these things more clearly. Good intent or not, we need to act accordingly to the situation."
Defeated, the boy offered another quiet sound, "Will you tell Kyle about what I did…?"
"I'm tempted, but I don't want to anger him, because Daniel is special to him. I'll let them know I moved you to another teacher, to limit their burden. There's a chance I'll be replacing you with another student."
Although the boy offered no sounds or gestures to let the man know that he understood the graveness of the situation, he should at least be talking those thoughts in internally at least be taking the words onboard with his thoughts, "I want you to remember what they taught you… even if you feel like you hadn't learnt anything from-"
"No…" The boy felt so downtrodden, upset at himself "I made a mistake… one that I won't be able to seek an apology for… but even so, I did learn something from Kyle. He helped me to understand where I was going wrong with my training. Mr Gruboski pointed it out, but I didn't listen to him… when I should've. The only reason I probably listened to him, was because I was catching feelings for him. I thought he may have been too… and the only reason he wasn't approaching them, was because Daniel had sunk his fingers into him…"
The boy immediately shook his hands at the assumption others would've thought of, "I didn't mean it to come off in that way, considering Kyle's feelings were mutual… they always had been… he just wasn't putting those feelings on display for everyone to see all the time. He took into considering where he was, but now that I look at it… that assumption might be wrong too. Maybe I was so blind, I hadn't seen if Kyle was stealing glances in Daniel's direction when I wasn't looking… or enamoured by my own, feelings."
"I…" the boy sighed once more, "I wish I could've apologised for my mistakes… for trying to break them up."
Eifion crossed his arms, "Kyle will be really, upset about that… even if you apologise."
"But shouldn't I apologise…?"
The man ran a thumb over his chin, thinking about what kind of reaction the boy would give. If he apologises to the two of them, maybe Killua wouldn't react negatively. He knows Daniel said the boy wouldn't go out of his way to take revenge, and that he shouldn't be judging the boy based on his family history… but Isaac will not try to apologise while they are together… he'll most likely pull Killua to the side to apologise to him directly, seeing as it was that boy who got affected.
The other problem is, he doesn't know if he'll ever apologise to Daniel or if he'll only say something to Killua…
"Think about what you need to say, and then apologise to the two of them. Not just Kyle or Daniel. Your actions affected them, not just Kyle…" He needed the boy to understand that even if he feels like he'll only need to apologise to Killua, Daniel also suffered from his actions…
"Ok…"
Eifion clapped his hands together, startling the boy in front of him "You need to think about the actions you caused to not just them, but Simone as well… Yes, what he did was in the wrong… but at the same time, you took something that belonged to him. Do you understand?"
"I… understand."
The man looked the boy over, "You're dismissed."
