With the weapons now done, Daniel gets a run over with how his weapons work. Although, the process now means their time is up.
A\N: Sorry for the late post, got side distracted.
Killua found Daniel with his sister, admiring the smooth transition of every step, the way his hips swung from side to side in an alluring manner. He didn't mean for his eyes to zone in on the spot, but he couldn't exactly take his eyes off his partner's backside.
There was nothing sexual about it, Daniel just happened to be teaching Alluka fluid movements, a dance step routine…
And Killua was here, thirsting for the booty when he should be revealing good news to his partner. Although admiring the swinging hips was certainly hypnotising, he should be saying something. Much to his own, disappointment, he cleared his throat, "He's done…"
Daniel stopped moving, turning around to face his partner "Done-done? Or mentally done trying to fix certain mechanics?"
"We actually, got that part fixed yesterday. Otherwise, every single weapon is now constructed. As you wanted, we waited until everything was completed before the reveal. Although I've seen one of those weapons prematurely, the other two were just finished today."
"Right… So, let's go see them."
Killua gave a nod, leading his sister and partner to the workshop.
They found the man in the workshop, running a cloth over one of the three completed weapons, cleaning up any smudges he may have missed. When he looked up, his smile beamed widely, "Everyone is here. Good!" Putting the weapon on the bench, he left to grab the first completed weapon, the spear that was being leaned against the wall.
Bringing it over to the group, Mikkel bestowed the weapon upon Daniel as though he were a blacksmith showing off the final product to a King.
Daniel's shaky hands took the spear, admiring the work being presented to him. There were a few small changes, but most of it had maintained its original design. His eyes started at the top, the spear spike.
It had been sprayed down, recoloured so it didn't look like it got hit by a rainbow. He agreed to a certain colour scheme, which Mikkel had stuck to. The spear spike was painted a deep red, no longer its cobalt colour. The rest of the spear itself was painted midnight black, with two brilliant red gemstones slotted into the eye sockets.
Originally, he wanted two Deep Ocean Glass in their original colour to be socketed into the eyes, but once he had learned he could go with other colours, he wanted red. He wasn't disappointed, when he saw the red glass eyes glitter, with black slits for the pupils crafted into the eyeballs.
It gave this look of being alive, rather than metallic pieces being melded together.
His eyes took in the earlier markings of his design, the sharp edges being smoothed out so there were no longer any jagged edges. Moving onto the shaft, where he originally marked the spots where the shaft will be shortened, Mikkel had taken it upon himself to add rings that protruded out, giving it a more aesthetic look to the final design.
He moved further down to the 'tail', aspect of the weapon, smoothed to the point it looked more like fur. But when his hand touched it, his hand met with metal cool to the touch.
The combined weight of the weapon felt much lighter than Wolfbane. Perfectly balanced in his own, opinion "It's amazing…"
Mikkel grinned smugly from the boy's words. He liked the praise, but more than anything… he admired the look of wonder the boy gave as he stared at the final product of the weapon, "Let's talk about the changes…"
The man pointed at the rings on the shaft, "You'll notice I turned your grooves that were used as an indicator for Rosalia to shorten the distance, into rounded edges. However, it's much more than that…" He pressed a finger to the groove, showing that they could be moved in either direction, an almost silent click sounding over every few seconds "You can rotate in either direction, for as long as you like, but for now it does nothing. It's connected to the shaft change in length. There's one on each groove, so you can alter it while swinging the spear in any direction since you made it so you could use the tail end as well, not just the spike tip. Anyways, the weapon won't extend further than its original design, but each click will shorten it in centimetres… please make her aware of this knowledge."
The boy gave a nod.
The man moved on, pressing a thumb to a hidden button, "Here is where the button for the release mechanism is, so you don't have to grab the axe handle, I did something similar for the whip, but more on that later. Press it in, and weapons will part like a seat ejecting from a car. No, it will not have enough force to fire the weapon at a person. The Ejection mechanism isn't that strong…"
Daniel snapped his fingers, pretending as though he were disappointed in that knowledge.
"It'll pop off to which you can grab it and sheath it, dual wield or whatever. The eyes have changed to red, as you requested. They are still considered Deep Ocean Glass, but with a bit of light tinting, which is a long and tedious process-"
"Sorry…" Daniel offered a weak smile.
"I've had much harder requests. Difficulty aside, they're now red. Other than those changes, everything is like in the blueprint. So, how did I go?"
Daniel spun the weapon around, testing not only the durability but the manoeuvrability potential. Giving it one final thrust, he offered a grin, "It's better than I could've imagined it to be."
Mikkel gave a nod, "It better be! I worked hard for my professional skills. Now, I got an extra present at the end. But first, let's move onto the axe now." The man moved back to the table, grabbing the next item Daniel specifically ordered, "So, I did what you asked, fixed up a couple of lines, then smoothed out the surface. As for the changes…"
He handed the axe to the boy, "See what you think…"
The axe was much lighter than the spear, but that much is expected, given the size and material differences between the two. Still, he admired the work of the axe, including the thick handle and the texture of the Clefhoof hide felt soft against his hand.
It had a different colour scheme when compared to the spear. The Axe blade was silver, most likely coloured using Silverite. The shaft and handle we both coloured a brownish colour.
He gripped the handle with a bit of strength, noting how it clung to his hand as though it was made out of duct tape. He gave it a few swings, taking note of the heftiness of the axe blade. Loosening his grip, he was able to pry the axe from his hand via the shaft.
"Lay it on me… what're the changes?"
"First of all, you'll notice there's no mechanism to detach the weapons via the axe, as I stated earlier."
"I do…"
"However, tilting the handle back you'll notice the connection point."
Daniel tilted the weapon back, looking directly at the bottom. It had been coloured in, to the point it didn't look hollow. But when he pressed his finger into the slot, there was a hole. It was coloured with the intent to be merely an illusion to the eyes.
"Another change I made…" The man pointed at the blade of the War Axe, "You'll notice there's a groove against it."
Daniel pressed his finger against the bump, it was semi-hollow, snuck into the design without his notice.
"May I…?"
Daniel handed the War Axe back to the man, who took it in his hand. He slid his finger into the hidden groove, wiggling it against the metal. He showed off that it could move forwards and backwards, "Now I know you wanted to make it turn into a scythe once it was connected, but I thought, why not make this small change. You can turn the War Axe into a Sickle, but you can also change it back into an axe. So, either way, the weapon combination will allow for you to have a Poleaxe style weapon, like a halberd… or a Scythe. It snaps to two different locations, notified by a click. So, once you lock it to the spot, it'll stay there… until you of course change it."
Daniel was smiling widely. It was a minor change; one he would've never thought of including. But now that he has it, he was glad Mikkel thought of implementing this upgrade without his knowledge.
He got to keep both of his original ideas. It was in retrospect, way better than his original design to have them forced into a permanent change, while the two weapons were merged. So, now he could change up his weapon on the fly, even without the current connection process.
Until he visits Rosalia, he'll be unable to connect and disconnect any of the weapons. Doing so… would've forced the weapons into their shared state, until, he'll have the time to bring them to Rosalia.
"The only problem is, I didn't place a button that allows for the change outside of that spot…" Mikkel shifted his stance, "So, you'll have to change it via that. But given Rosalia's skills, I wouldn't be surprised if she can set a command for it to change via a simple method. Otherwise, there's been no other changes."
He was thoroughly impressed. But there was still one more weapon, the one that was most likely to turn out to be a disaster. Although given the fact, two out of three of the weapons had been designed in a matter that surpassed his ideal version. They were perfect in his eyes.
He couldn't wait to see the last one… he officially had high hopes for the last of the bunch.
There was also the extra gift at the end he was highly anticipating.
Mikkel returned to the table. He grabbed the last of the weapons, handing it off to Daniel. The boy took it with a smile, taking note of the smoothed-out features. It didn't look like there were any major changes… but considering the last two, there may have been hidden changes he was unaware of.
But from what he could tell, he made the right choice to have the whole weapon coated in with gold, except for the eyes, which were tinted green.
"Now this weapon was a pain to make… not going to lie." As Daniel frowned, Mikkel continued "to put it bluntly, without Killua's help, there was no way I would've gotten all your requests done. That being said…"
The man pointed at the handle, "Let's start at the handle and work ourselves upward. You got your curved handguard, allowing it to connect on either side of the spear, without infringing on your ability to grip both. Next up… inside the middle, you have your Oskianithil core encased in Stone Rubber. The chain connects to the core, allowing for a direct passage for the electricity flow through. Here's where I had to get creative. First of all, tap around the chain and the handguard."
Daniel did so, finding that there were two different materials.
Mikkel explained "There's Stone Rubber and Rekril, a small circle around the chain, then Rekril wrapped around it so it's set into the handguard. So, if Killua were to hit the chain right now…" He gave a nod to Killua.
The boy flung a bolt of electricity at the chain, the chain lighting up like a Christmas tree. After around a minute, the strength dulled, the chain barely showing signs of electricity "That's… That's awesome. I didn't feel anything while holding the handgrip."
Killua gave a nod, "Yup… the most difficult part about it. After a few days, I seriously wanted to give up. But given what he achieved with the Yo-Yo, I'm glad I stuck it out to the end."
"Now, I won't mention much about the materials, given that you already know them. But provided nothing touches the handguard, you'll be fine. Now moving on to the tip. The eyes remained blue, the point is also smoothed out to cause blunt damage, rather than the spear that's designed for piercing or stabbing. However, both will still be able to be connected to the axe handle, the hole was designed to fit the whip tip, but, it's still able to grip the spear tip as well. There are no hidden features, besides the ability to absorb and release electricity. But…"
He moved to the table, grabbing the last of the items on the list. This wasn't one the boy requested, but given the fact he'll be always carrying all three weapons, it's something he'll need. He brought it to the boy "Don't worry, I also made one for Killua, but this one is designed for Daniel mainly. Go on, put it on let's see if it fits comfortably."
Daniel put his arms through the sleeve holes, then buckled the belt part. It fit snugly, which means later… it might not fit him at all "I don't know… it fits me just now. It might not fit me later."
Mikkel grinned widely, "Oh, I didn't make it… Ashton Nieves did. She's skilled when it comes to costumes and clothing."
"Hey…" Daniel's smile grew, "You wouldn't happen to know how to get in contact with her."
The man gave a nod, "Sure do… I can't hand out her own, address… given that I don't know it. But I can give you her business address. Although, walking in with those weapons might not help your situation. I suggest you call her before arriving so she can get someone to chauffeur you across. Just tell her you're the son of Vastorie, then she'll get you through without any issues."
"Noted…"
"Now, about it not fitting afterwards, trust me… she thought ahead. It's made from a stretchy material that won't rip as easily. It's aesthetically pleasing, but more importantly… it has three harnesses. You got the one in the back. The two on the sides of your hip."
"More like my waist…"
The man unclipped the belt, pulling the band down to the boy's waist before reclipping the belt. It didn't rubber band back up to his waist, rather staying in the new location, "See… stretchy. The two clips on the side, you can unclip them and move them to a different spot if you want. You could even technically put them in the same area. But for right now, the clip-on your left is for the axe, the one on your right is for the whip. For the whip, you'll need to roll it up like a rope, then loop it around the newly wrapped whip sides before circling the clip around it. It'll snap to the belt. You just need to tug at it; then the snap will loosen. As for the axe and spear, it's a simple push-in mechanism."
Daniel did so, finding each location easy to access. He'll probably need to change the axe and whip around, given that he uses his right hand first, before his left hand.
But otherwise, it felt comfortable to wear and didn't infringe on his posture or movement.
Also, it was designed with the intent to fit his body as he grows older. How? It's something he'd need to ask Ashton when he can…
For now, all he could do is to thank the man for thinking ahead as per usual, "I don't know what to say… you not only helped us by making these weapons, you've provided mental support for us… helped Alluka with the vest. And you did it without charging us."
"Except for the vest…" Mikkel corrected, which Killua repeated.
"But that was only one thing…" Daniel wanted to argue, "What possessed you to add all these extras? What made you include changes we never asked for, but you knew that would help us… even though you strictly stated at the start, you'll be harsh on us since the beginning."
Mikkel raised an eyebrow, "Would you rather I charge you for everything? I can tell that's not your outright complaint… but, you're trying to find a way to justify my extra assistance. Even though you pointed out, as I said earlier, I wanted you to do everything with minimal assistance from me… I, however, assisted you. You're right… I did state those things. However, I did what felt right. If you find that strange, you're in a rude awakening when you meet someone like Ashton. She has helped constant lives… although many of us are without fault, your father included… every one of us has strived for some good, no matter how immoral they are. I can't or will defend someone who let's say… they kill people for a living."
Killua froze for a second, it's a good thing the man didn't notice.
"But I know your father has, Daniel… I can't defend that past, but I can defend the here and now. He can be arrogant, but he's trying to help people, much like I am trying to help you right now. If you can't forgive him, for all the pain he's put you through, that's for you to decide. But I'm not helping you because you're his son… it's because you needed something, I could help you with."
He clasped a hand to the boy's shoulder, "I know the three of you will be leaving soon… the reason for you staying, no longer binds you to this place. But I'm going to miss you guys… the moments we shared, Killua's cooking… seeing your excitement after seeing the final product, the discoveries you made along the way… I'm glad I got to be a part of that. However, if you ever come back this way… you better pop in again and say hi."
The three gave a nod.
Mikkel pulled his hand back, "One more thing…" He moved back to the table, "this one is for Killua. It's something like Daniel's, it's a holster for your Yo-Yos, like his, you can also move yours to where you like."
Killua grabbed the holster, smiling at the gift, "Appreciated… we'll stay one more night, however, then leave the following morning." The boy then turned to his partner, "So I'll see if I can land us a flight to…" He then turned to the man, "Where exactly should we be heading?"
"Oh, right… I'll call her in advance. You'll be heading to… Yorbia, specifically, Yorknew City. As I said, she has a business operating there."
"We're well, aware of her business…" Killua rebuffed, "In fact, she's one of the names on our list of people we need to visit. We're hoping to see if she can help us with something. Mainly my…"
The man raised an eyebrow, "You're… what?"
Alluka spoke up, "Big brother believes she may be able to help me."
"Fashionwise?"
"I take offence to that…" Killua pouted, only to have his sister jab him in the waist, "Ok, okay… we're hoping for advice for transitioning for my little sister."
The man gave a nod, "Oh… that's understandable. Given her position on the matter, I'd say she may have some helpful resources to offer. I wish you the best of luck, Miss Alluka. Hopefully, she can offer you some guidance."
Mikkel pulled the three into a soft hug, "But for now, first I'm going to find something to cover those weapons, then I say we sit down to eat and talk… One final time before you head out tomorrow."
The three agreed to the situation, leaving to pack up for their new adventure tomorrow.
