"Phew, that's another one down." Yanfei sighed in relief after another long day of work for herself.
She had been hired a week ago to help with many issues that her client, Kazuha Kaedehara, had in regards to his recent return of status.
She had initially thought to ignore it as someone like her would not be able to simply leave Liyue for about two months, but it was none other than the legendary Captain Beidou who had suggested her. It'd be bad for business if she failed to meet the expectations of someone so high profile.
This brought her to Inazuma where she was at least accustomed to some of its laws and customs as opposed to Fontaine. She had met up with her client and was surprised that it was someone so young.
He made a good impression on her, to say the least, and was willing to pay the appropriate amount up front.
Yeah, no, she took the job pretty fast.
All she had to do in the end was find the people evading their taxes which a quick check on transaction history was usually the sinker, but…
They really had it quite easy as the Kanjou Commission didn't even seem too bothered with trying to confirm if they were paying the appropriate amount or not, but Yanfei didn't become a renowned lawyer in Liyue by slacking, naturally.
The other thing that was outside of her usual work was after she told him about the artifact she owned, a steelyard balance.
Kazuha had immediately pulled a few non-stop all-nighters to put her in a position of joint partnerships with a few businesses he had called in through connections.
The reasoning was that no matter how great a product can be, finding out the perfect pricing was an incredibly important hassle as pricing it too high would scare away potential customers but making it too low would lose out on profits. This was usually a hard thing to gauge for even the most experienced of businessmen due to how volatile things can be from supply and demand to simply it raining too hard the day before.
The artifact in Yanfei's possession was incredibly useful for this very specific asset and he had immediately capitalized on it.
Of course, the profits would be split three ways with Yanfei balancing the numbers, Kazuha using his current pull and status and finally, any business partner doing the physical work of buying and producing.
It was rather strange for her to suddenly become a co-owner of a company with her rarely having to do anything too taxing (heh, taxing), but overall, her time in Inazuma had been rather pleasant.
That is, until a visitor came.
Yanfei had been staying in the manor that Kazuha now owned for convenience and while it was extremely run down, the single room that was furnished and maintained was comfortable enough for her to not feel the need to hide away in her tea pot, especially since Kazuha would not be back for about a month or two. That left only her and a shrine maiden named Kano Nana to be the sole residents of the Manor. However, the shrine maiden didn't seem to care and had renovated the entire basement to be some sort of obstacle course for Sayu.
Yanfei wasn't in any position to judge.
Ding dong.
"Hnn? Is that another angry local…? I just work here…" She grumbled to herself before she lazily pulled a haori over herself and began walking towards the front door.
She had taken to using her employers clothes since they were bigger and easier to put on for a fast and easy off and on. There were likely some issues with this, but if it's just for one to two months, it shouldn't matter as long as she didn't cause any damage to the few belongings he had and he had quite a few spares.
Opening the door, she was greeted with an unfamiliar face.
She was a rather lovely young lady with strawberry blonde hair tied into a ponytail that stuck messily out in all angles. Her face was rather fair and she had rather striking gold eyes that met Yanfei's deep green ones.
"Eh?" The two looked at each other in surprise before Yanfei noticed she was carrying a basket.
"S-sorry. Is Kazuha home right now…?" The girl seemed to stutter out, seeming to be rather flustered.
"No. Kazuha is currently away on a business trip. I am here in his stead for the time being. My name is Yanfei, can I ask how I may assist you?" The lawyer spoke in a respectful and business-like tone, plastering a neutral but friendly smile to ease whatever she may be feeling.
"Oh! I'm a friend of Kazuha and heard he now has a place in Inazuma! My dad heard about how his clan got reinstated and then found out I used to make him carry a bunch of my fireworks around! He got really mad about that, saying something about the legacy the Kaedeharas have left behind, especially in regards to the past in how they helped us, but how am I supposed to know? Anyways, he told me to bring some gifts and to say sorry to him for not knowing he was secretly a fallen heir or something, but he was always the type that wouldn't care about something like this, otherwise he'd have spoken about it before, right? My name's Yoimiya by the way." The young lady began talking at a pace that would be almost impossible for a normal person to keep up with if they didn't have any prior chances to prepare, but Yanfei was a diligent listener and also had her own moments of going off on a tangent, so she didn't mind.
"Well, it's lovely to meet you, Yoimiya. Yes, I heard he had just gotten his position due to some new decrees made by the Electro Archon. Your father sounds like a real stickler for traditions and loyalty, but that sounds respectable for Inazuma. My dad is the same way with how he talks about our Archon. I'm sure Kazuha would be delighted to know that a friend came by to drop off gifts and it's really not your fault for not knowing history you haven't experienced and he really doesn't seem like the type to care. He was rather peaceful in everything and I don't recall him ever raising his voice or getting upset over anything too big." Yanfei smiled brightly as they conversed, finding the natural pace the two were going at to be perfect and relaxing.
This was a rather good start to a meeting, but there was something off about how Yoimiya stared at her as they idly chatted about themselves. She was rather used to people staring at her with her horns and scales, but this lady's eyes kept drawing downwards towards her body.
At first, she suspected she was being checked out again. She was told many times that she was rather cute after all, but no, it soon dawned on her that she was looking at the black haori she was using to cover herself up with nothing but casual sleepwear underneath.
"So, Miss Yanfei, why are you here in Kazuha's home…?" She asked with a curious and skeptical look. "You said you're from Liyue, right? Did you come with Kazuha from Liyue…?"
The question had a few insinuations, especially with the situation as it was right now. Here she was, a stranger who was living in the manor of another man, using said man's clothes to cover herself in a rather suggestive way.
"A-ah! No! I was hired by Kazuha as a legal consultant and a business partner! He won't be back for about a month, so I've been staying here!" Yanfei held up her hands defensively to dissuade any notions of intimacy.
There was an uncomfortable silence momentarily before Yoimiya simply smiled brightly.
"Is that so? Well that's fine then! I was worried for a moment there, you know?"
Yanfei breathed a deep and heavy sigh of relief before asking, feeling much safer than she had before. "Why is that?"
"Because. Kazuha has an engagement with my friend and it'd be very awkward if he was already in a relationship with someone else!" Yoimiya stated innocently, not seeming a single bit worried about what she had just said.
Yanfei's eyes widened as she heard that. From what she knew of Kazuha, there had been no inkling of details in regards to him being engaged and from what she could tell. While this didn't mean much from a first glance to the normal viewer, Yanfei's instincts were already picking up that something messy was about to come up.
"C-can you please explain, Miss Yoimiya…? I'm quite interested…"
"Of course! I just heard from my dad about a century old contract agreement between The Kaedeharas and Kamisatos that got quickly glossed over after the Kaedehara's fell. They were waiting every generation for both clans to have a male and a female heir to wed, but it never came true until now. Pops is a drinking buddy with one of the elders of the Kamisato's and they seemed particularly interested in this marriage for some reason." She easily let out everything she knew without a single hesitation for the privacy for others.
Yanfei was merely glad that she didn't have to represent her for anything, but that didn't stop the sudden headache she felt.
No doubt, this was going to be a massive issue and being Kazuha's legal consultant, she was going to have a lot of work to do as historically, arrange marriages have always been a messy dispute.
Well, as long as Kazuha wasn't involving himself with another woman, she'd be fully capable of salvaging this to be a swift and easy nullification without any negative feelings from either side.
Kazuha
"Kazuha, Kazuha!" Hu Tao excitedly called for the ronin as she clung to his arm, having appeared seemingly out of nowhere halfway back to the temporary headquarters of the Liyue Qixing.
"Yes, I am Kazuha." The samurai responded with a wry smile.
After the event at the Tenshuukaku, Kazuha had attended the funeral for the many soldiers who had lost their lives during the battle between the Shogunate and The Resistance.
It seemed that Kokomi had decided to hire outside of Inazuma for a funeral parlor, which brought about the meeting of Kazuha and Wangsheng Funeral Parlor.
"Are you sure you don't want to join us? Someone with such close connections to death would be so amazing working for us!" She excitedly asked, trying to hire him once again.
The moment she had laid eyes on him after the funeral service, she had immediately tried to recruit him due to many explanations that were sort of vague from having many close encounters with death and death being fond of him as a whole.
The ominous reasonings aside, he was rather overwhelmed by the rather petite lady trying so hard to get him to work for her.
It was lucky that her consultant was able to rein her back in, but that didn't stop her from continuing to try and recruit him.
Especially after she showed that she was capable of seeing Rosalyn and it didn't help that she had returned to Liyue via Crux Fleet Express with them.
"I apologize, Miss Hu Tao, but I'm afraid I'm not looking for an occupation in the funeral sect." The soft spoken boy turned her down politely, which didn't seem to affect her in the slightest.
"Aw, well the offer is always open! Mr. Zhongli was also quite interested in you for some reason, so please come down to Wangsheng Funeral Parlor whenever you can!" She beamed before noticing his company. "Uwaa, Lady Keqing, Sayu and Miss Lohefalter! Good day~!"
Keqing had been rather caught off guard by the sudden appearance of Hu Tao from out of nowhere and she was even more confused at the mention of Rosalyn who she couldn't see and wasn't aware of.
"Good morning, Hu Tao…" Rosalyn stayed behind Kazuha, shrinking away at the sight of her.
"Good morning, Director. I wasn't aware that you were acquainted with Mr. Kaedehara here." Keqing didn't let the confusion stop her from being polite as she returned the greeting.
"I wasn't expecting for the important mission that Kazuha came to Liyue to be you, Lady Keqing. Could it be that you two were in an overseas relationship?" Hu Tao looked between the two of them with a curious look.
"What? No! Of course not!" Keqing immediately denied, becoming red faced from the idea.
"I am temporarily working for The Liyue Qixing as a favor. Lady Keqing here is simply my guide as I do not know my way around." Kazuha gave a bit more detail to explain their situation.
"Ohhh! So not yet! That means if I play my cards right, I can poach you from Lady Ningguang! Ohh… but she wouldn't like that… Maybe she'll forgive me if I have Mr. Zhongli be the mediator…" Hu Tao was saying something rather dangerous in regards to doing something against one of the most powerfulest ladies in Teyvat.
"Director Hu Tao, don't misunderstand. This is merely temp work. Mr. Kazuha will merely be assisting us for a certain amount of time and once that time is up, he will likely return home." The purple haired lady had recovered, returning to her business-like tone to prevent any more misunderstandings.
"Uuuu… Lady Keqing… If you don't get a hold of any good man, you'll end up alone…" The Wangsheng Funeral Parlor Director gave her a sad look of pity, causing the Electro Vision holder to falter before sputtering in indignation.
Hu Tao ignored that as she moved up towards Kazuha with a wide smile on her face, encroaching on what many others would label as "Personal Space".
"You can come stay with us any time, Ka-Zu-Ha~! I take my work very seriously and I only hire those that I believe would be a perfect match for the job, so please do think it over, okay~?" She was rather close to his face, causing him to momentarily lose composure, before she immediately stepped back, waving her hand to depart. "Anyways! I'm going to go and meet with the Millelith! They've been oozing with the symbol of death over them lately! Goodbye everyone! And Miss Lohefalter, please do take your time in passing on!"
As quickly as she came, she left everyone present in a dazed state before Keqing cleared her throat, avoiding eye contact with Kazuha.
"I think we should go now…"
Later
"I can't believe it. I'm impressed. There's really nothing wrong." Keqing expressed her surprise rather openly as Ganyu and her had confirmed that there were no mistakes that they could at least tell in regards to all the documents Kazuha had submitted.
While it was rather impressive to be done by one person, it was more appropriate to say that two and a half people had worked on it with Kazuha and Mini Miko doing the brunt of the work, especially with Mini Miko's large amount of experience. Then Rosalyn would proofread it with her limited knowledge of mathematics and ability to spot errors.
It was rather grueling, but the three had managed to work a system that let them do things at a good pace for two people which resulted in a completely average pace for three.
"As expected of a member of the Crux Fleet. I had no doubt in you, Sir Kazuha." Lady Ganyu beamed towards him, making him feel uncomfortable from the genuine praise from someone he hardly knew.
Ganyu was the polar opposite of Keqing to say the least. She had immediately trusted and taken a liking to Kazuha due to having the utmost faith in Beidou's words. Not to mention that she was much more reserved and cool as opposed to Keqing's assertiveness.
"Thank you. It's an honor to hear such things from someone so prominent." The ronin gave his thanks before Keqing stood up, getting ready to leave.
"Well, that's great that you know what you're doing, but even at this pace, we'll still be rather behind so we need to get to work immediately." She reminded the two of their schedule, getting them to immediately stand up and prepare for the busy month.
"Ah, of course. Apologies, Sir Kazuha, I'll be taking my leave. I too have much to do." The bluenette bowed politely to him before turning to Keqing with a warm smile. "And please don't overwork yourself, Keqing. I know what is coming up is rather stressful, but it wouldn't do good if you collapse at the end."
"Of course. I promise i'll take a break at some point, but right now I just want to stop at a good point, though I don't want to hear this from you. You need to take a break when you can too, Ganyu." Keqing smiled warmly as the two exchanged nods before the Qiling left.
"No need to worry, Lady Ganyu. It was lovely to meet someone like yourself." Kazuha gave a slight bow.
"She's taken." Keqing spoke before he even had a chance to sit back down at his desk.
"Eh?" The boy looked rather perplexed at the sudden statement, resulting in Keqing's face getting red as she glared at him as if this was somehow his fault.
"She's taken! I just want you to know that before you try anything!" The young lady was suddenly saying something that sounded really accusatory and he wasn't sure why, before he came to a conclusion.
"Ah. I apologize, Lady Keqing. I wish you two a happy future…! I promise I didn't mean to get in between such things." Kazuha bowed politely to his colleague who only seemed to get even more furious.
"No! That's not what I meant! She and I are not together! I'm just warning you that Lady Ganyu is not available!" She exclaimed.
"Oh, well I wasn't planning on anything happening, Lady Keqing. I also don't think this is something to be focusing on with the imminent threat looming over us." The young man's crimson eyes locked with purple, wondering where this had even come from, before tilting his head with a curious look. "Wait, so Lady Ganyu is able to have time for others, but from what Hu Tao has said from earlier this morning… Does that mean you're still single, Lady Keqing?"
"Ahhhh! Go back to work! I don't need to hear this!" Keqing covered her ears before running out the door in embarrassment.
"..."
"You're really cruel, sensei…" Sayu spoke up from the desk she had curled up on, having apparently been watching the entire thing unfold.
"It's fun to tease people sometimes." Kazuha admitted with a slight smirk, showing his devious streak.
"Are you really taking out your annoyance with us calling you too submissive on the poor girl?" Mini Miko asked, to which Kazuha shook his head.
"Of course not. It's simply just too easy with her." He denied.
"Kazuha… Teasing a young maiden isn't right, you know?" Rosalyn murmured from her part of the office.
"I know, but i'm sure it's nothing serious. I'm just here for a month and we'll be out right after. Nothing will come from this besides just light banter."
Sayu watched as her sensei began talking to no one in particular again, her eyes half lidded and beginning to droop as she was reminded of her old sensei who would do the same.
"Weirdos…" She thought, but felt comfortable in their presence as she began to lull herself back to sleep.
Omake: Sayu's First Meeting
Sayu was nervous as she waited for her sensei to show up, finding her immaculate schedule of perfectly timed naps to become undone thanks to Kano Nana now finding her another Anemo Vision holder to teach her.
She was extremely reluctant to have a new sensei and especially one recommended by Kano Nana and her methods to train her, but became surprised when a young man walked out to greet them.
"Hello again, Mr. Kaedahara. This is Sayu and she will be your student as promised." Nana politely bowed before gesturing towards Sayu who walked forward timidly.
She couldn't run since he was no doubt a much more experienced Anemo user, but maybe if she got a good enough head start to transform and hide.
"Thank you, Nana and hello Sayu. It's nice to meet you. I'm Kazuha Kaedehara and i'll be your sensei from here on." Kazuha held out his hand to which the young girl held to shake.
She didn't know it yet, but this was the start of a rekindling of what she had long thought was lost in terms of her feelings.
Kazuha was not strict with her nor did he enforce anything too strenuous for her the same way Nana did.
"When you're with me, simply relax. Visions are a mystery even to The Electro Archon herself, but one thing that remains true is that it represents the archons in a way. With Anemo being a reflection of Monstadt's Barbatos, we can deduce easily that to fully bring out its latent powers is to simply be free." He explained to her, saying she could nap whenever she wanted as long as she at least ate full meals on time.
Sayu didn't know what to say to this. While she could sleep whenever her sessions with her sensei was over, she found herself finding it more enjoyable to stay around him as she slept, feeling comfortable and protected like she had once felt when her old sensei was still around.
He didn't seem to mind at all, allowing her free space to rest and only giving her more serious training in forms of games of hide and seek where he'd find her easily every time.
She was somewhat peeved at her ninjutsu being so easily seen through, but that just drove her to improve.
In the end, she felt much better and could feel herself improving her skills with her new sensei.
Though the multiple women who kept appearing to disturb her rest was getting rather irritating.
Not much to say here, but I can go through the same old motions.
