"Elizabeth" I pondered.

"Yes, that is a great name! What do you think?"

She thought about it for a second then she looked up at me.

"Ralts!" Elizabeth exclaimed eagerly.

"Welcome to my party Elizabeth," I reached my hand down to her so we could shake on it and make it official.

She cocked her head to the side and stared at my hand in confusion. That confused gaze then trailed up my arm and fell upon me.

"You're supposed to shake it…" I explained now feeling slightly embarrassed.

"It's a human thing," I added.

I felt a tingling at the back of my head, very similar to the one I felt while walking through the woods. I chalked it up to some itch I must've gotten from sleeping against that tree earlier.

She looked back down at my hand and grabbed hold of it with both hands.

"There you go," I snickered and shook hands.

I began to pull my hand away, but she was still clinging to it with both hands. I raised an eyebrow and began to lift my hand and by extension Elizabeth into the air.

"You like holding hands, huh?" I asked eyeing her.

"Well can't blame you, I also enjoy holding hands with cute girls,"

She let out a cute yelp and let go of my hand. I quickly reached after her but winced and stopped from the pain radiating through my right arm. I had completely forgotten about the pain when I went to shake her hands. However, it turned out I didn't have to worry too much about her. She floated gently to the ground and landed on the soft sand.

"Elegant!" I tried to give her a small applause but the pain in my arm cut it short.

"Crud, this thing hurts," I hissed through my teeth.

I felt something hop onto my leg and it made me shift my gaze away from my wrist. Elizabeth was standing on my thigh with her arms stretched out towards my injured hand. It made my heart beat a little quicker at the adorable display of compassion.

"No, no! It's fine, I already took something for the pain," I explained and lowered my hand down.

"But that's not an invitation for you to touch it," I added and moved my arm away when she started to reach for it.

She frowned at me as if I just betrayed her in some way. Though we've been through a lot together, we weren't so close that I would let her touch where I ached the most.

"Don't worry, I'm going to the Pokemon center first thing tomorrow," I rolled my eyes.

She puffed up her cheeks at my response and snapped her head away angrily.

"Instead of playing doctor, how about we make camp here for the night?" I suggested, nudging her shoulder.

She exhaled sharply and I swear I saw Elizabeth roll her eyes behind her bangs. She hopped off my thigh and looked up at me as if she was saying 'what now smart guy?'.

I stood up and then dusted off my pants before reaching into my backpack. I pulled out a small rectangular device with a blue button on top of it. It was my compact tent.

"You might wanna take a step or two back," I suggested.

She quickly ran behind my backpack and covered her head. I assume she was still a little rattled from being nearly eaten earlier and when I suggested she back off she took it a bit too seriously.

I turned my gaze back towards the treeline and pressed down on the button.

The cube began to vibrate and buzz aggressively in my hand as it began to activate. I tossed it in front of me and it landed on the soft sand with a loud thud. After a final loud buzz, the compact tent began to glow a brilliant blue and then expand. It began to take shape and the blinding light started to fade, revealing a greyish blue tent in its place. It wasn't anything to write home about, two people could just about fit in there comfortably, but it was perfect for someone like me whose favorite sleeping position was the Starmie.

"Pretty cool. huh?" I shouted over my shoulder towards my new companion.

Elizabeth peeked out from behind the backpack and then quickly ducked back as if she were afraid of the large fabric object that appeared in front of her. Sensing no imminent danger, she once again poked her head out from her hiding place. She took a cautious step towards the tent and me before coming to a sudden halt.

"Ralts?" She looked up at me with a nervous expression.

"It's fine, this is where we're sleeping tonight," I stated, trying to reassure her.

She looked at the tent and then back at me a couple of times before taking another step closer to it. After a few more cautious steps she was now arms reach away from the thing. Elizabeth inspected it carefully and started walking around it, so she could make sure it was a safe thing to be around.

"Alright, then," I shrugged and walked over to my backpack.

As I bent down to pull out some necessities, my arm brushed against Tide's Pokeball that had been hanging off my belt this whole time.

"You would've come in handy ten minutes ago…" I stared at his ball before opting to release him.

"Yo! Elizabeth, come here!" I hollered over to her.

She was about to climb into the tent, but she hurried over as soon as I called her name.

"Ralts?" She panted.

Her short legs made it difficult for her to run long distances. Or short distances for that matter.

"I forgot to introduce you to the other member of my party," I shook Tide's Pokeball enticingly in front of her.

Elizabeth reached her hands up towards the red and yellow Pokeball that I held an inch or two in front of her. I let her hold onto it, as I thought it would be funny to see her reaction when Tide jumps out of it.

I gently tapped the release button on Tide's ball.

"Mudkip! Mud!" Tide yipped excitedly upon being let out.

"Ralts!" Elizabeth shrieked in response and dropped Tide's ball.

She rushed back towards the backpack with ragged breaths. The gears in Tide's head slowly began to turn.

"Kip," He yelped and took off after Elizabeth, thinking that she wanted him to chase her.

Those two goofballs ran a circle or two around the backpack before Elizabeth got fed up with being chased around. She turned on her heel and raised a hand towards Tide.

It felt as if the world suddenly ran cold. Her entire demeanor changed. Her shy and gentle nature quickly turned into a cold and merciless one. The air around her began to twist and dance as massive amounts of energy began to pool around her arm. The winds she spurred up blew at her dress and hair, for a moment I saw her eyes, and what I saw shocked me. The whites of her eyes were pitch black. Tide also noticed the sudden change in her and he stopped mid-step nearly falling over face-first into the sand.

"Ra," She stated coldly as the energy she gathered in her palms began rushing towards Tide.

A gentle breeze flew out of her palm, picked up some sand, and blew it into Tide's face. Turns out Elizabeth was more exhausted than she or I had originally thought. All that build-up resulted in her barely being able to push some sand around. It was nothing compared to the blasts of power she let loose in the woods. Those rattled trees and swept up bushes in its wake. This one only managed to blow half a handful of sand in Tide's face.

Tide quickly shook his head to get the sand out of his eyes and nose. He sat down and looked at Elizabeth confused. Her attack had been so mediocre he wasn't even mad about it, just confused.

"Alright, that's enough you two," I crossed my arms impatiently.

The troublesome pair looked at each other and then back to me.

"Be nice, you two are allies, not enemies," I explained and walked up to them.

"Tide, this is Elizabeth. She is a Ralts and your new teammate,"

"Elizabeth, this is Tide and he is my little buddy," I continued and pushed those two closer together.

Elizabeth eyed Tide cautiously, sizing him up a little. Tide just looked at her confused as ever, unsure why she was acting so weird. Seeing how nervous she was I started gently caressing her head and back. This seemed to calm her down and she turned to me with a smile. She reached her hand out to him, similar to how I greeted her when I welcomed her to my party. Tide looked at her hand now even more confused and shot a pleading look in my direction, begging for an explanation.

"She wants to shake your 'hand', put your right paw out," I stated matter of factly.

He looked at Elizabeth and then back to me as if my explanation just made the situation weirder.

"It's a human thing," I shrugged.

That seemed to serve as a good enough explanation, judging by the sudden look of realization on Tide's face that he got the second he looked back at Elizabeth, following my explanation. He happily reached for her open hand and put his paw in it.

"R-Ralts," She smiled at Tide.

"Mudkip," He smiled back and began to bounce around his new friend.

This time Elizabeth was not taken back by Tide's energetic display, rather she joined him and started swaying side to side happily. It was certainly a strange sight, but I figured I better get used to seeing things like this, considering that I was going to travel across the land with these two weirdos.

The shadows at my feet began to stretch and widen as the sun started to descend over the horizon. I turned back towards the deep blue lake to admire the sunset. I sighed deeply as I took in the sight. I managed to drag my gaze away from the sunset and back to my tent. It was about time I set up camp for the night.

"Settle down you two, we're staying here for the night," I shouted over to them.

My experiences with camping were a little lackluster, to say the least. The Pokemon Trainer Course taught us basic survival skills and first aid. That's how I was able t patch up my arm so quickly. There weren't a lot of opportunities to camp in the city. My friends and I hung out after dark in the Lilycove park once or twice, but that hardly amounted to anything. It did help me get better at seeing in the dark though. I did watch a lot of nature shows in my free time, however. It was the only way to feed my desire for the outdoors. I may not be able to rub sticks together to make a fire, but I knew what a campfire should look like and I did have a lighter in my pack to start the fire.

"I'm gonna go and gather some firewood, you two stay here and watch the tent," I ordered and trudged off towards the edge of the woods.

Feeling uneasy from my earlier encounter, I took slow and careful steps once I reached the edge of the sandy beach. Since it was late July most of the branches that fell into the underbrush were bone dry. It would've been considered a fire hazard, had Hoenn not been famous for its sudden summer storms. We were second only to Galar when it came to sudden rainstorms. I made sure to check to forecast before I left and it said we should have at least four days of nothing but sun, which was something I was looking forward to.

I tried to use my right hand as little as possible while I was gathering wood. I scooped up as many branches as I could with my left hand and I held them close to my chest. It was working just fine until I felt a sudden tingle at the back of my head followed by a twig snapping behind me, causing me to drop all my sticks and turn around with my fists raised.

"Oh, it's just you Elizabeth," I sighed and lowered my arms.

I looked down at all the sticks sprawled out in front of me that she made me drop.

"Can you help me grab some wood?" I asked and bent over.

Quickly realizing how terrible that sounded I shot back up ready to apologize. Lucky for me, she didn't quite seem to understand that innuendo. With her help, I was able to gather more than enough sticks for the campfire. She carried her fair share in the form of two sizable branches that she dragged behind herself. Tide as expected was laying down in front of the tent, I assume he went to sleep as soon as I was out of his line of sight. I rolled my eyes and dropped off the bundle of sticks with a loud thud right in front of him.

He jolted up and looked around in a panic. When he realized that it was only Elizabeth and me, he slowly raised his gaze to meet mine. He squinted at me, visibly upset for waking him up.

"Sorry, buddy. Not gonna let you sleep without dinner," I smirked and squat down to his level.

Tide instantly forgave me and began to hop around me in circles as if he weren't sleepy in the slightest. Elizabeth finally caught up and dropped the two sticks she carried onto my pile.

"Thanks for lending a hand," I raised my right arm and pointed at it.

"Ralts?" She asked in a worried tone and pointed at my arm.

The pun flew over her head.

"I'm fine, I just made a joke," I sighed and stood back up.

"Now then, let's get cooking,"

After ten or so minutes, I was able to get a fire going. In my defense, I kept getting damp tinder so the fire wouldn't start. It still turned out better than expected. I found a large flat rock not too far away from the treeline and used it as a makeshift stovetop. The lake looked clean enough to drink out of so, I filled the little pot I carried around with me with some lake water. I didn't know how to cook anything fancy, but I knew enough to prepare some instant Nanab berry oatmeal...after reading the instruction three times. While my meal was brewing, I laid out some food for my companions. I was smart enough to get two bowls from the Pokemart, in case I captured a Pokemon on my first day out in the field. Tide happily wolfed down his share of the food, however, Elizabeth was a little reluctant. She had never seen food like this before.

"It's Pokefood, I think it's Pecha berry flavored," I explained as I grabbed a spoonful of oatmeal from my pot.

Elizabeth looked at me with her head tilted to the side as if she didn't understand what I was saying.

"Pecha berry, it's pretty good. You ever had one?" I picked up a kibble from her bowl and inspected it.

"It's pink on the outside and yellow on the..." I was suddenly cut short by the weirdest sensation,

It started as a tingle on the back of my head, something I had grown used to after today's events. Then it started to spread! First, my temple began to hum, and then my forehead followed suit. All the while my eyes were locked with hers as if some mysterious force had compelled me to gaze into her crimson eyes. Suddenly I felt as if something was probing around the back of my head as if it was trying to push into my brain from inside of my skull. Then it began to expand and I felt an indescribable feeling wash over my entire mind. My brain was tingling wildly, even more so than my legs that one time when Brendan and I had to sit on our knees and watch May perform a routine she saw on TV for half an hour. I still couldn't tear my eyes away from her. The more I looked into her eyes the more I felt that force probing around my mind. Her serious expression began to soften and a look of realization befell her adorable face. She smiled wide and picked up a kibble from her bowl and bit into it. She began to sway side to side in bliss.

"What the hell was that?!" I yelped in a mixture of fear and awe, as I was finally able to speak again.

Without looking away from her feast Elizabeth raised a hand and tapped the side of her head.

"Did you just read my mind?!" Excitement poured out of me.

She looked up at me with her mouth full and nodded.

"Do it again!" I put my pot back on the dying embers, being too excited to eat.

'Raise your right hand. Raise your right hand. Raise your right hand,' I chanted in my mind.

I felt the tingling sensation take over my mind a lot faster than the last time. She must've gotten a little more used to the layout of my head after probing around in there. She giggled and raised her right hand, amused by such a simple request.

We went back and forth like this until the stars crept onto the dark blue sky above us. It became easier and easier for her to hop into my mind, by now I barely felt the tingling when she started poking around in there. The only reason I noticed that time had passed at all was because of the frequent yawns coming from Tide and Elizabeth.

"Woah, I guess it's pretty late, huh?" I smiled, basking in the faint glow of the crescent moon.

"We better call it a night, sound good?"

Tide and Elizabeth gave a tired nod in response.

I slowly rose to my feet and stretched my aching back then kicked some sand over the fire. Those two followed close behind as I slung the backpack over my shoulder and headed towards the tent. I unzipped the entrance and tossed in my pack along with the sleeping bag I had brought with me. I crawled in after it, having forgotten to take out my pajamas.

"You two stay in here, while I change," I instructed and promptly exited the tent.

After outrunning a pack of hungry Zigzagoon I thought it would be best if I freshened up before I changed into my clean pajamas. I thrust one of the sticks we had leftover from the campfire into the soft sand of the beach and hung my pajamas on it. After I undressed, I hung my dirty ones on another stick that I had stabbed into the ground right next to it. I walked into the surprisingly lukewarm water of the lake while making sure to keep my right hand out of the water. I didn't have to walk far until I was hip-deep in the water. My thoughts drifted along the gentle waves sturred by a soft summer breeze. I heard a rustling from the tent behind me, but I thought nothing of it...That is until I felt the familiar tingle.

"No peeking!" I shouted and submerged in the water until I was neck-deep.

Lucky for me, I was still aware enough to keep my right hand above the water, despite how embarrassed I was. While I couldn't see well in these light conditions, I knew who the peeper was. As soon as I had turned around the tingling stopped and I heard Elizabeth's gasp coming from somewhere around the tent.

I quickly finished my dip in the lake and dried myself off. I stepped into the tent with my dirty clothes clumped up into a ball. Tide was already fast asleep, he was curled up into a ball and tucked away in the corner of the tent. Elizabeth on the other hand was sitting on top of the sleeping bag, acting as if nothing happened, just waiting for me with an innocent, welcoming smile. My animosity from being ogled quickly faded by the adorable sight. I rolled my eyes and scoffed, being too cuted out to stay angry.

"Move over, I have to roll it out," I stated and placed the laundry ball next to the entrance.

Elizabeth hopped off the pale green sleeping bag and waited for me patiently as I zipped the entrance back up. I unrolled the bag in one swift motion, I was more than ready to go to sleep and put this day behind me.

"Ralts?" Elizabeth whispered not long after I laid down.

"What?" I replied in a hushed voice.

"Ra, Ralts?" She poked my chest.

I had no idea what she wanted, I thought she was making fun of my shirt. She picked up on my lack of understanding as I heard her mumble something under her breath. I felt my head beginning to tingle and hum once again as she pried open my mind. I felt her hand on my chest again as an image started to take form in my mind. It was fuzzy and unclear, but I was able to tell what it was.

"You want to sleep on my chest?" I had to try extra hard to stay quiet.

She managed to communicate with me with her mind...sort of. This was unheard of, or at least to me it was. My exhaustion flaked off of me and was replaced with sheer excitement. Elizabeth must've been still tuning into me because I heard her giggle as she climbed onto my chest.

"This is so cool!" I screamed silently.

I heard her let out another soft laugh that sounded like the chime of little silver bells.

"It's so cool that you're in my party!" I threw my arms into the air.

Suddenly I realized something. Elizabeth picked up on the sudden change in my emotions and she sat up on my stomach.

"Wait, you're not in my party, officially…" I whispered and reached over to my backpack.

I kept all my Pokeballs in the front pocket of it, so I wouldn't have to waste precious time when capturing Pokemon. After fumbling around with the zipper for a moment or two, I pulled out one and held it up to her.

"I have to make you mine," I whispered.

Regretting it immediately, I covered my face in embarrassment. I was thankful for the lack of lighting, knowing full well how beet red I must've been at that moment. I felt Elizabeth squirming on my belly, I'm sure she was uncomfortable because of my wording.

"I-I mean I have to capture you with this, so you will be registered as MY partner," I corrected myself.

She stopped squirming and I felt her slowly moving back onto my chest. I hadn't noticed, but when she was squirming, she inched herself lower on my stomach. She must've been really embarrassed by what I said.

"Ralts?" She asked softly.

A wave of anxious curiosity swept over me. It felt weird as if it wasn't my feeling.

"A-Are you nervous?" I was awestruck by her abilities once again.

"Ra…" She replied.

"Tell you what, if you're scared in there, you can come right out," I tried to reassure her and cupped her cheek.

She hesitated for a moment, but then welcomed my touch and nuzzled her head into my hand.

"Here we go,"

I pressed the Pokeball against her chest and the room was illuminated by a pale red glow. Elizabeth's features became visible in the faint light. Her lips curled into a nervous smile, she was still very anxious about being captured, but she had faith in me. After what we've been through I would've expected that much. As the red beam crawled over her body and drew her in, for a second I could've sworn the whites of her eyes were pitch black.

Darkness returned to the tent and the Pokeball closed shut in my hand. It began to shake, showing that the capturing process had been activated. It shook once, then twice. I held my breath as I waited for the final, third shake. It shook again, she let me capture her. I smiled and held her ball close to me.

"Thank you," I whispered.

Suddenly the ball began to quake and shake violently. A moment later Elizabeth burst out from the ball and landed on my chest with a soft thud.

"What's the matter, did you not like it in there?" I asked, placing my hand on her back.

I felt her tender body tremble at my touch, for a moment I thought it was because she wasn't expecting it, but then I heard her start to sob.

"Wow, was it that bad?" Concern oozed out of me.

"Ra…" She nodded and clung to my shirt.

"Well, then I guess I can let you sleep with me tonight," I reassured her and pet her back gently.

She slowly calmed down and I felt her body relax. I kept petting her until my eyes slowly drifted shut.

"Good night, Elizabeth…" I yawned.

A gentle warmth began to spread through my body, lulling me even deeper into sleep.

Author's note:

Hey hey, you made it to chapter 2! This means I was able to make chapter one more intriguing! Hihi! Gosh, I'm so giddy! So this is the second chapter I rewrote out of the fifteen I had planned. A fun fact, that some of the oldest readers may know is that actually, this used to be chapter three! But then I melded 1 and 2 into one unit. It's a long story. Whoops, I'm getting off track. Where was I? Oh right! Thank you very much for reading Eric and Elizabeth Rewritten. I'm enjoying the rewriting process. I get to go over Eric's previous adventures with a new mindset and come up with things I didn't think of then, Gosh this is so fun. Yikes, I'm rambling again. Thank you!

Update log:

(2021/09/5): I've uploaded the first version of chapter 2 rewritten to the doc manager and added the Author's note along with the introduction disclaimer. Not much else. Hmm, this is taking a bit longer than I thought. Meh, worth it.

(2022/05/13): Just some thoughts I had for updates and junk!

-New Character sheets for Eric and Elizabeth and the rest of the cast (One is already done)
-Introduction of Eric and Elizabeth Shorts which will be a new monthly mini-series where I write non-canon stories about Eric, Elizabeth, and others. This way you get not one, but two stories per month! Isn't that fun?
-Making an illustration for each chapter based on scenes that I quite enjoy. You know to spice up the story reading process. I'll probably leave like a note at the top of the story whenever a chapter has an illustration so you guys can look at them while reading.

Story prior to reboot: Eric and Elizabeth the Gardevoir: Forged Memories - www,fanfiction,net/s/14067718/1/Eric-and-Elizabeth-the-Gardevoir-Forged-Memories
