July 28th 20XX

I couldn't take it anymore. The pain was too intense and my head pounded too hard for me to try and fall back asleep. I tossed and turned in my sleeping bag, never being able to find a position that was comfortable for more than two minutes. I dared not to get up and put something between me and my sweat-covered resting place as it would've probably woken up the peacefully slumbering Ralts next to me. I woke up earlier in the night from the pain, and she let me hold onto her until I fell back asleep, but now I can't imagine that it would do me any good. My arm was stiff as a board and I felt it throb with every beat of my racing heart.

Tide was completely ignorant of my situation. He had slept through the whole night, even when I was whispering to Elizabeth before I fell asleep holding her. I was envious of his ability to sleep so peacefully and I had half a mind to throw one of my socks at him, had I not been in too much pain to move.

I sighed deeply and let my mind wander as I lay on my back and gazed at the tent's ceiling above me. Through the greyish-blue fabric of the tent, I could see that the sun was getting ready to rise on another slightly less wonderful day. As the minutes passed, the tent became more and more illuminated, eventually waking up the little lady next to me.

"Ralts?" She mumbled, rolling over to face me.

"Ra?" She seemed to pick up on my discomfort, as the grogginess in her voice quickly faded and was replaced with concern.

"Yeah, I'm not doing too good," I chuckled and reached over to scratch her head with my left hand.

At first, she welcomed my touch, but then quickly brushed my hand away and got up. She took a few cautious steps toward my injured appendage. She inspected the wraps and then my swollen fingers. Curious to see if it was as bad as it looked, she slowly reached out and poked my arm.

"FUCK!" I cursed and shot up in pain.

"That is a big no-touch, Elizabeth!"

"Big no-touch!" I winced and cradled my injured arm.

She frantically threw her hands up to apologize and took a few steps back.

"I-It's fine, j-just don't do that again," I hissed.

Elizabeth glanced around the tent as if she was looking for something. Then she found it! My first aid kit, it laid strewn out behind me. It must've fallen out when I knocked my backpack over during the night. She swiftly flew over to it and tried to open it. Since she didn't know how zippers worked she just frantically tapped against its top and sides. She got fed up with not being able to open it after a few more seconds of hammering away at it with her tiny delicate fists.

"Ralts!" She grunted.

A pinkish glow began to surround the first aid kit, it started pale and dim, but it quickly grew bright and strong. The little baggie levitated a foot off the floor and began to shake violently. Elizabeth was fully intent on opening it and getting whatever was inside that thing even if it meant tearing it apart. I managed to drag myself closer to her and grabbed hold of her by the waist.

"Hey, hey, I'm still gonna need that," I scolded and let her go.

I sat up and dragged the kit into my lap. I unzipped it and showed its contents to her, very curious to see what all the fuss was about. She anxiously looked through the several bandages, pills, and medical tools that were in my kit. Her eyes lit up and she grabbed a small purple-blue bottle and held it up to me. It was a potion, the same kind that I used on her when she was injured.

"I'm sorry, Elizabeth. Those don't work on people," I gave her a bitter-sweet smile, appreciating the kind gesture.

"But I will take one of these," I stated, picking up a pack of painkillers.

"Could you fill my water bottle at the lake? I need water to take these," I instructed and held up my empty water bottle.

She stared at it for a few seconds, then turned back towards the tent entrance. I thought she didn't understand my request and I was about to explain it when suddenly a round object began to cast a shadow against the tent entrance. For a moment, I thought one of the local Maril came by to visit, but the orb was floating in the air. Curiosity overtook my pain and I found the strength to stand up and unzip my tent. I was met by a floating orb of water from the lake. Rather than going to the lake and getting the water, Elizabeth brought the water to us with her telekinesis. I was amazed by her abilities, and if I weren't feeling as sick as I felt then, I would've picked her up and hugged her. I held up my bottle to the orb and the water began to flow inside it. It spilled a little, but I didn't mind. Any stains and moisture would be expelled from the tent, once it is re-compressed. A truly handy invention that was.

After downing the pain killer and something for the inflammation, I started to get ready for the morning. First things first, I had to wake up Tide. At first, I thought I could just poke him and he would wake up, but even after picking him up, he was sleeping soundly. While I was trying to come up with some other ways to wake him up, Elizabeth was pacing back and forth next to me. She must've been deep in thought and didn't pay attention to her surroundings. Or the fact that her bangs blocked her view made it difficult for her to navigate. Either way, she bumped into the backpack and the bag of Pokefood within let out a loud rustle. Tide's eyes shot open and he whipped his head from left to right, trying to locate the source of the sound. His eyes met mine and his expression quickly changed from excitement to confusion, he didn't understand why I had such an annoyed look on my face.

"Alright then, I'll get ready, and then we'll eat. After that we'll have to go to the Pokemon center and get my arm checked out," I explained to those two as I dug through my pack for my spare set of clothing.

"Now you two stay here while I wash the sweat off my body in the lake, I don't want to stink up the whole forest on our way out,"

This time, Elizabeth actually listened to me and didn't try to sneak a peek at my naked body. A couple of Maril however did come by to check on me. Humans must've rarely come by as they were really curious about me. Even when I tried to shoo them away, they kept swimming by and eyed me. Once I was back on the shore, I dried myself off and got dressed. I looked inside the tent to tell my little buddies to get ready for breakfast.

"What are you doing?" I raised an eyebrow.

Elizabeth was stacking all the strewn-out items in the tent into a big pile in the middle, with Tide's help. She looked at me dumbfounded as if I just asked the most ridiculous question she'd ever heard. A look that I was sure to see many more times on her face. She looked around the tent, then her gaze fell on me. Then she pointed at the big pile of stuff in the middle, with Tide sitting next to it proudly. The puzzled look on my face was surely not what she had hoped for as her expression changed and now resembled mine.

"Oh..."

"Oh! You're trying to help me pack!" I exclaimed, feeling as if I'd just solved one of the many mysteries of the universe.

"It's really sweet of you two," I thanked them.

Elizabeth blushed and looked away.

"But this isn't really packing, though I appreciate the gesture," I continued.

Elizabeth's look of bliss quickly turned sour and I could tell by her posture, that she was feeling defeated.

I ushered those two out of the tent while I properly packed up my stuff. It took me a little longer than I would've liked, but considering I had to work with only one fully functioning arm, I believe it was justified.

Several minutes later, I crawled out of the tent and plopped my backpack down next to the entrance. In the left corner of the tent, just below the entrance was a little red button, no bigger than my thumb. I pressed it and held my finger on it for about ten seconds, so I could activate the re-compressing mechanism. After a loud humming noise, the tent began to glow brightly. I squinted and averted my gaze as the tent began to shrink and take the shape of a small cube. A satisfying pop signified that it was done shrinking and was ready for storage. I quickly put it away and picked out some food for us.

Even with the pain medication, I was too exhausted to make a fire and cook food, so I decided to skip out on a meal. After all, we were heading to the Pokemon center anyways, and that was only a few hours away on foot. I was planning on getting something from the cafeteria after I got my wound checked out. I couldn't expect my companions to make this trip on an empty stomach, however.

"Eat up you two!" I hollered over to them.

They wandered off towards the lake while I was busy packing my backpack. They must've been talking about something nice because I saw the both of them smile while chatting away. When they heard me call out to them, they turned to me with the same smile and quickly ran up to me. I put down their bowls and filled them to the brim with the good stuff.

Tide ravenously tore into his portion, a sight I realized I would have to get used to, no matter how disturbing it was. Elizabeth just patiently stared up at me, not even touching her breakfast.

"What's wrong Elizabeth?" I crouched down to get a better look at her.

As I did, she quickly reached into her bowl and pulled out a big kibble. Without hesitation, she popped it in my mouth. I nearly fell back from the sudden gesture, but I managed to find my balance. Even though the brand I bought wasn't anything special, the flavor on the other hand was rather good.

"Thank you?" I said after swallowing the Pokefood.

"Ralts," She nodded and smiled up at me.

she had that kind of sweet smile that makes your day. I felt my lips twitch and before I knew it, I wore an ear-to-ear smile. After having made sure I at least got a bite to eat, she started munching away at her portion. Tide had long since finished his meal but managed to get a glimpse of Elizabeth sharing some of her food with me. He sheepishly went up to her with a pleading look. Elizabeth snickered and picked out three bigger kibbles from her bowl and handed them over to Tide.

The look he gave her when she offered her food to him was priceless. He looked as if he had just been given the greatest honor of his life. I swear I could see tiny trails of tears streaming down his orange cheeks as he wolfed down his three pieces.

"M-Mud-Mudkip," He choked out and sat down by her side.

He had found true friendship, and he would protect the one who shared her food with him until the bitter end. Or until someone else offered him some food.

I made sure to forever remember this cute display. With the Snap function of my Pokedex, I made sure to record Tide crying his eyes out while Elizabeth pet his forehead with one hand and ate with the other. I made a mental note to myself to show Brendan or May the footage the next time I see them.

With all that settled, it was about time the three of us made our way towards the Oldale town Pokemon center. I washed out their bowls while those two goofed off around the edge of the tree line. I waved goodbye to some of the Maril from earlier and turned back towards my idly sitting backpack. I stuffed in the two bowls and fastened the straps so nothing would come tumbling out, should I have to run again. Though my sleeping bag didn't possess any compress technology, it was still rather compact. It kept the heat in pretty well, despite being made out of rather thin material. When fully rolled up, it could be comfortably attached to the right side of my pack, without causing any discomfort. Its weight was no issue either, the pot that hang off the left side of my backpack balanced it out.

I carefully slung the backpack over my shoulder, making sure not to strain my right arm too much. I quickly glanced around the shore, to make sure I left nothing behind. The remains of the campfire were covered in sand, so there was no risk of causing any wildfires, and the only thing that remained from my stay here was a square-shaped indentation in the sand of the shore.

"Alright guys, uh... I mean guy and girl! We should get going!" I called out to them.

They quickly hurried over to me and were staring up at me with curious expressions.

"It's a long way back, and you both have very short legs."

"So why don't you two return to your Pokeballs and I'll do the walking for us?" I suggested.

Elizabeth shuddered at the mention of this.

"Or you could walk with me..." I bent down and ran my fingers through her hair.

Those beautiful crimson eyes looked deep into mine. Once again, for a moment I could've sworn that there were a few black spots in the whites of her eyes. As if this black coloring quickly receded when I brushed her hair aside. Could've just been a trick of the light, but it made me a little curious.

"Well, that's a no from the lady..."

"What about you little buddy?" I looked over at Tide.

After a brief pause to think, he spoke.

"Mud," He yipped with a smile.

"Uh, what?" I replied, unsure of what he meant by that.

"Mudkip," He repeated, now with a more neutral expression.

Elizabeth gently tapped the back of my hand that I had caressed her with just moments ago. I looked over to her and when she had my attention, she pointed at Tide, then at the ball dangling on my belt.

My eyes were wide with excitement. Elizabeth translated what he said to me. Some of my excitement must've oozed out of me and into her because her lips were pulled into a wide grin that almost matched mine.

"Alright, buddy. In you go," I snickered, still giddy about what Elizabeth just did.

In a flash of light, Tide returned to his ball and I fastened it back on my belt. I stood back up and stared ahead with my hands on my hips.

"So, you uh, gonna walk next to me? Or float?" I turned my head towards Elizabeth.

She just smiled up at me and shook her head.

"No? Then what?" I raised an eyebrow, curious and excited to see what she had in mind.

She pointed her palms to the ground and the air around her began to vibrate. Elizabeth effortlessly floated off the sandy shore and rose higher and higher until she was at my eye level. She drew closer and I got a good look at her. Her face was really pretty up close. It was more round than oval, but it fit her. Her tender-looking lips were still etched into a little smile and I could make out her crimson eyes behind her green bangs. I would lie if I didn't turn a shade or two pinker as we stared at each other.

"Ralts~" She snickered and plopped down on my shoulder.

Her feet were dangling happily and I could see the tips of her feet poking out from beneath her flowing white dress. She reached her left arm around my head to fasten herself to me, but I was certain she could just anchor herself to me with her powers if she chose. I felt her soft little fingers tap against my earlobe, the unexpected sensation made me feel a little tingly.

She let out a bell-like snicker as she continued to play with my ear. She was either mesmerized by the organ or just enjoyed making me tingly.

"Alright, Alright, that's enough,"

"You don't want me to become ear-itated, do you?" I glanced in her direction, expecting her to laugh her head off from the clever pun.

She must not have understood the wordplay, but she let go of my earlobe, nonetheless. I sighed, disappointed that I couldn't make a girl laugh with my amazing sense of humor. My smile soon returned and I headed for the treeline.

"It's about time I got all patched up," I stated and stepped into the woods.

Author's note:
That was pretty sweet huh? Not a lot has changed from the original chapter, but it is over a thousand words longer. And I think a little more indearing.

(2021.09.23): *sigh*

Look. I just got broken up with, like 5 days ago as of writing. I'm heartbroken and I feel weak and very not creative. But I haven't given up on Eric and Elizabeth. Their love gives me strength and hope. So I'm still planning on rewriting the other chapters. But maybe the anniversary return won't happen.

(2021.12.28):

Hi! Future me here, or I guess past depending on when you read this...anyway! I'm picking back up where I left off by rewriting the chapters as part of the second-anniversary event. Aka: "This Changes Everything". I'm working on chapter 4 rn, and I'm pretty happy about it. Also! How do you like the rewritten parts so far? Have you realized what's going on yet? If not? Read the last few lines of chapter 21 and then start over, while remembering how everything looked like before the rewritten chapters!

(2022.06.10):

Hi! Current time davidt00ns here. Yeah, just ignore those two previous statements. I only left them in there post edit to let yall know that I was working on this thing for a while. E and E still mean a lot to me, even after all this time and even as my life becomes more and more work-focused. I have less time for E and E still...that's why I keep writing ahead whenever I have time. I always have 3 chapters in my pocket by the time a new one comes out, so I can keep to a regular program without over-exhausting myself. I love you all, my dear viewers and you all mean the world to me. I love your reviews and I love the fact that I was able to mesmerize you all with a simple tale of a boy and a girl falling in love. Even after nearly 3 years, you still read these chapters, and read my notes and that means something to me. Something I can't put into words quite well. Thank you all for reading this month's chapter. Come back same time next month for Chapter 4!
