~Chapter 16~ Test of Faith
"N-no... Not a-again!" Kayo cried, horrified she was having this nightmare again, only this time she saw it all from the beginning, waking up in Benimaru's bed, the Kijin's throat savagely ripped open and the taste of blood in her mouth. She pulled away in horror as her hands covered her mouth... and when she pulled them away... it was the kijin's blood on her lips. "B-Benimaru!" she cried out his name in choaked sobs as she closed her eyes trying to will away the site before a door opened and she looked over to see a startled Shuna.
"K-Kayo!?" she called the kitsune's name but took a step back, pink eyes filled with overflowing horror.
"Shuna! It's not what it looks like!" she called out to the pink kijin, reaching a clawed hand out to her only to freeze as blood spurted out of her as she fell to the ground... the life in her pink eyes fading. "Kayo?" was what the kitsune heard as she rushed to the pink girl to help her... only to see her body combust in black fire and be turned to dust.
"No... Shuna!" she cried and trembled as she closed her eyes and heard another voice cry out in pain. Eyes shooting open in time to see Souei slip down the wall, a whole in his chest and in Kayo's hand... a crushed heart that was no longer beating, it's blood dripping over her hands and down to the ground.
"N-no. Souei." she sobbed as she looked at the heart with both fear and regret. Closing her eyes one more time she snapped them open in shock as she felt a mighty roar like thunder.
"Veldora?!" Kayo called to him, tears in her eyes as she looked up into the sky as all the rest of the village was consumed in black flames... the mighty storm dragon coming right at her like a scaley missile without hesitation. She couldn't help but smile sadly and spread her arms, ready for him to kill her as she saw him open his massive jaws right before she closed her eyes, the feeling of his hot breath on her body for a moment and then... it was quiet, and she felt no pain... slowly Kayo opened her eyes and Veldora was not in front of her.
"No... no no no no no!" she panics and turned to look behind her... relived not to see a massacred Veldora... but it seemed a million times worse...
"Milim? Rimuru?" she called their names, her throat swollen as she saw the slime in Milim's hands, a sinister smile on her childish face as she slowly started to compress the slime. "Milim!? Milim what are you doing!? Put him down! This isn't a joke! Let my brother go! Let Rimuru go! Please!" she cried out, but it was for nothing as the pink demon lord splattered the slime in her hands, blue slime splattering everywhere, not reforming and unmoving.
Kayo was in shock as she fell to her knees, golden eyes growing dull as tears escaped them and slid down her cheeks. Slowly Milim approached her, golden eyes ablaze with sadistic delight, and Kayo's eyes came back into focus in one blink.
"You're not Milim." she voiced as she knew the REAL Milim had blue eyes.
The imposter smirked and wrapped a hand around her neck, pushing her onto her back into a shallow pool of water that was only deep enough to keep Kayo's head submerged with just a few centimeters more of water to keep her under. The water that was crystal clear blue, smelled and tasted like Rimuru. Kayo tried to hold her breath, but it escaped her lips and bubbled up to the surface, distorting the imposter's face so she could only make out a black figure and golden eyes staring down at her.
The kitsune feeling weak and powerless to stop it, her arms felt too heavy to fight, the black figure becoming clearer as the water calmed and she could see its true face... and started fighting back.
~Awake~
Kayo gasped struggling for air as she tried to bolt up but was under something heavy and warm. She heard a familiar whine, and something was licking her face as she tried to get her head to stop pounding and her stomach to stop squirming.
"LORD/LADY/KAYO!" Serval voices yelled as the downed fox slowly opened her right eye, her left throbbing with pain as something dry and crusty over it. "Nee-san." she called out to the slime, relived he wasn't really squished instead he was right by her head asking so many questions. "What happened?! Your scream woke the whole village! You were twisting weirdly so I asked Ranga to lay on you! Are you okay!? What happened to your eye? I tried to heal you but even then, you didn't even wake up! Kayo~!" the slime explained in his panic as Milim looked at Kayo in shock as she saw something the others didn't.
"Your eye... it's different." she said and pointed to her left blue eye, and Kayo was confused and huffed as she looked at what was pinning her down... getting a face full of Ranga's dog breath as he panted with worry for the kitsune. Laying on top of her to keep her from trashing as Rimuru had told him too. "Ranga. Off." she told the tempest wolf who whined before slipping off her so she could roll to her side and cough. Something was annoying her throat, wigging around, she tried to cough it up and it felt gross as she could feel it trying to get out but something else came out of her mouth as she was trying to get the annoyance out.
A black pearl.
The room was quiet, shocked but Kayo was still trying to cough up something up as it was still trying to get out her throat, she had to grab it, sticking her hand in her mouth and yank it out, hard. Kayo took a deep breath and coughed more as now it was all out... the room staring in shock at what she had just pulled out of her mouth.
"Kayo... what is that?" Rimuru asked as Milim poked the thing in curiosity as it wiggled on its own for a moment before going still. Kayo rubbed the crust off her left eye and blinked so she could see just what had been down her throat. A pair of golden eyes focusing on the wiggling object, the kitsune's left eye no longer looking like her own, as the white was pitch black with a strange red horizontal line running under the golden iris.
"What in the name of... Is that... an arm!?" Kayo asked as she looked at the severed humanoid looking arm that seemed to be in pain, moving once again even if it had been bitten off of whatever, or whoever, it came from.
"When did you? Whose arm did you bite off!?" the slime questioned in his shock but froze as he looked at her eyes and how she was grinning widely as she pulled out a dagger and stabbed the hand of the severed arm a few times, no blood coming from it, but the dagger left holes in the white gloved hand, the rest covered by the ripped off sleeve of a black jacket made with unfamiliar maternal.
"Um... Kayo? Can you explain?" the slime asked, slightly worried for the kitsune's mental stability. Not only was Shuna, Shion and Ranga in his room, but Milim, Kaijin, Rigurd, Hakuro, Souei, and Benimaru who had heard Kayo's scream... well the whole village heard her but Geld and Rigur were keeping the worried villagers away to give Kayo space.
"Okay. Okay. I'm good." Kayo sighed and stabbed the hand one more time, it had stopped moving a while ago and Kayo seemed calmer now but... her left eye wasn't going back to normal as she looked at her slime brother. "Whoa~, now that's trippy." she said as she tilted her head as she looked at the slime and then at Milim, the kitsune paling as she looked at the confused girl who hugged the woman happily.
"You won! You got a really cool eye and an arm of a demon! I knew making you my big sis was a good idea!" she told the confused kitsune before she gasped and placed a hand over her left eye, remembering the pain as it was removed from its socket in her hazy memory of that 'dream'. She glared at the still hand and the pearl she had coughed up.
"Well... nice to see that worked." she mussed as she grabbed the 'pearl' able to see into it, and out of it, do to her new eye. "An eye for an eye~." she whispered to it with a sinister smirk, as she could see the demon trapped inside looking back at her. "Kayo is that... your pearl?" the slime asked, carefully coming closer, only he and Shuna seem to want to come near her. "No. It's something more useful~ a test subject." Kayo told him as Shuna gave Kayo a damp towel.
"Why is there blood on your eye? And why does it look like that?" she asked looked at Kayo with worry more than fear, then again, the unfamiliar eye had her shivering. "Big sis took it from the demon trapped inside that pearl! It's so cool!" Milim added exactly as Kayo closed her eyes and concreted, feeling the demon's majicules within her skull... and strangling it.
"How about now?" Kayo asked as she showed her eyes... both now matching with clear whites and golden irises. Shuna still looked worried and helped clean the blood off the kitsune's face. "It looks fine but... did you really take a demon's eye? Did it take yours?" Benimaru asked as he came to her, worried as he caressed her cheek that he had witnessed dripping blood as she screamed in her sleep. The memory alone making his body freeze in panic.
Now Kayo was nuzzling into his hand happily, her skin cold to his warm touch.
"Yes, but I took his arm too. Now I got the annoying little dream demon trapped and primed for testing~." Kayo told him and giggled. "Oh~ this is going to be so much fun~." Kayo mussed as she just hugged Benimaru who bushed in confusion at what she was talking about, and how she was pressed into him.
"Hey! Not in my room!" Rimuru objected as Kayo giggled. 'Not THAT pervy slime~. The demon is imprisoned, like Veldora~.' Kayo corrected as she cuddled a very red Benimaru who was trying to stay composed. "Then say that! If you're going to molest Benimaru again, do it elsewhere!" he scolded her but was relived she was okay. Kayo getting off the blushing Kijin as she picked up the pearl and the arm that had somehow become a black ribbon with frayed white ends.
"So much to do~ so little time~." she mussed, and the room felt unsure about the sleep deprived kitsune who just passed out from lack of proper sleep for a full week and from fighting a demon.
~Deep Sleep~
"See what happens when you let me take control?" Ares smirked as she now had her own chair among the council who were quiet as they reflected on what had happened, her black heeled boots on the table, smirking at being back on the council. "At least it was against a demon trying to kill us and get to our brother. Who knew demons could even get hard for slimes." Lust mentioned as she was feeling frustrated, fanning herself as she tried to calm down. The battle between the War shard and the dream demon was making her very thirsty for Kijin, but their physical body was at its limit and could not act.
"We all had a part in it, Ares. Not just anyone can fight a demon in their dreams and imprison them." Mother scolded her, frowning worriedly as in the middle of the table floated the black pearl that was a prison for the demon.
"Ooooh~ What are we gonna do with em? Enslave it? or Teletubbies? Oh! Let's watch My Little Pony!" Jester asked with sadistic glee, Mother could all feel the anger of the demon inside, her left eye matching the demon's remaining right eye, glaring right back at her. "We already have him in an imperfect copy of the unlimited imprisonment." mother explained as her head throbbed... well all of their heads did as it was the most complex thing they had ever done.
"Who the fuck came up with it!? I wanna kiss them and kick their ass it's so stupid brilliant." Ares mentioned as no one quiet knew where it had come from, other than a mysterious hero from over 300 years ago.
"Maybe there is some information in the Dawgon library we have not seen yet. It mentions a few heroes, but we have yet to seen anything mentioning Veldora's imprisonment. Or even libraries of the other countries could hold some clues." Knowledge offered, feeling uneasy with not knowing.
"How did we even do it?" Planning asked, confused and feeling hungover as the room got quiet as a male voice spoke from above them.
With Imperfect Skill Mimicry
All 7 of them froze as they slowly looked up at the night sky, they had created but it looked very different now. Instead of forming a familiar night sky from their old world... all the stars seemed to take on the form of a dragon looking down on them.
"Who?" Mother was the first to ask as she bolted up from her chair along with the others before they heard a giggle form Agape. "Lord Veldanava!" the child called out to the stars happily, recognizing the voice but the others were confused and shocked at what their young self can just called out, the star dragon chuckled.
I see you still remember me, my child.
The star dragon mussed, sounding sad... and relived?
"Lord... Veldanava?" Knowledge questioned confused before a fox made of stars descended from the dragon with a scroll, setting it before the Knowledge fragment. No one moved but the fragment that was given the scroll reached out and touched it... becoming flooded with some lost knowledge. Overwhelmed they fell to their knees and so did the others before the star dragon and banged their heads on the ground in their haste.
"We are graced by your attention, Our Lord! Great Star King, Veldanava!"
They all greeted him, but the dragon seemed a little... disappointed?
"FUCK YOU! YOU STUPID LIZARD! WHY COULDN'T YOU GET MY LIFE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!?" Ares yelled at the dragon after bowing, the other's looking at her in shock, but the dragon seemed more amused by her words then angry.
He chuckled freely at Ares' reaction.
~Awake? ~
"Hmm~." Kayo groaned as she turned away from the annoyance, but it only kept on and started to poke her right cheek. "Let me sleep more~." the kitsune whined, still in a haze for her strange deep sleep dream, her mind not putting it together just yet as she was being poked more. "Sis. Hey, hey, sissy. Hey~." came a familiar voice but the fox didn't recognize it before she just grabbed whoever it was and hugged them, turning them into her cuddle buddy as she wanted to sleep more. "Eh!? What are you doing!?" Milim asked as she was shocked to both be grabbed and easily restrained by the sleeping kitsune, even as she struggled in the warm embrace the little demon lord couldn't break free.
"It's a trap!" the pink haired girl yelled as she struggled genuinely with the tight hold of the kitsune as she also wrapped her tails around the little demon lord who got excited and reached out to pet one of her many tails. "So soft and fluffy~." she giggled happily, no longer struggling in her grasp as she stroked the fox's tails as she continued to sleep... a blue slime popping in curiously threw a little flap at the bottom of a wall that allowed the slime to enter and exit as it pleased.
"Everything okay?" Rimuru asked, worried and confused why Kayo was completely wrapped around Milim as she slept, when she didn't even allow the demon lord to touch her tails just last night.
"Yup! Oh~ it's so soft I could sleep on these." Milim smiled, the tails moved and cradled the young girl who beamed as she cuddled into Kayo who was still sleeping. "Ahhh~ night, night~." Milim sighed contently and also fell asleep with the kitsune she called her big sister.
"Alright?" The slime shrugged, confused by what was going on but relived Kayo was getting much needed sleep and Milim was under control and out of trouble. So he took on his humanoid form and covered the two in the pink sakura flower blanket Shuna made for Kayo to use in her adult form. Smileing down at his little sister and petting her head a little.
"Good job, Kayo." he whispered and saw a smile bloom on the kitsune's face.
~Later~
"What time is it?" Kayo asked as she finally woke up, groggy and having forgotten her 'dream', only to be confused why she had the pink haired Demon Lord sleeping on her tails. "Can I get my tails back?" she asked, slightly amused as the demon lord kept pretending to be asleep.
The kitsune sighed as her stomach growled, demanding food.
"Hmm if you let go of my tails, I will feed you something sweet, something that not even I have tried~." she tempted, and the pink haired demon lord hopped up with her arms raised in excitement. "Yes! Let's go sissy! You slept to long! Come on!" she voiced excitedly and pulled the kitsune woman up easily as she pulled her almost out of the building before Kayo stopped her and had her get a change of clothes that were not as... reveling.
Getting the demon lord into a cute while dress with a light blue sailor collar was easy and it looked more appropriate on the young-looking demon lord as it reached down to her thighs with some shorts under it to make it a little more decent than what the young girl normally wore.
While the kitsune herself wore a crimson red dress with spaghetti straps and familiar black ribbon tied around her left wrist into a bow, the dress having a slit where her tails could slip comfortably, the fluffy red and black laced skirt, that was decorated with foxes and flowers, falling past her knees and down to her caves, allowing for her freedom of movement and desire for some modesty.
Both changes of clothes had been left to them by the pink Kijin presumably.
~Streets of Rimuru City~
"Lady Kayo! Welcome back! Please take these." another Goblin offered the passing kitsune who happily took the offered sweet cakes, Milim was drooling and reached for one before Kayo stored them in her void space. "Now now. Don't spoil your appetite, we can have them later." she told the pouty demon lord, but the goblins knew of Kayo's sweet tooth, so many gave her sweets as welcome back gifts. Making it harder for her to control Milim as they walked through the bustling streets.
"Lady Kayo!"
The kitsune stopped after taking another 5 steps as she looked at the 4 young ones what ran up to her, arms full of flowers. Kayo couldn't help but smile upon seeing the little goblina, and orcling, as well as a water fox kit and tempest wolf pup run up to her. Milim pouted more but the flower offerings interested her a little.
"We picked these just to greet you home Lady Kayo!" the little goblina smiled as he held up her offering of light blue flowers, spilling a few but Kayo took then any way and also form the shy orcling who handed her some pink flowers, even the little kit and pup handed her some red and pink flowers.
"Thank you, that's so sweet. Milim do you want some?" Kayo asked the demon lord who crossed her arms a looked away with a pout. The little ones looking scared of her as they took refuge behind Kayo. "No! I don't want any of those pretty flowers. You can find them everywhere; these are nothing special. I could pick a whole garden for you sissy if you want-" Milim was saying before Kayo placed something on her head.
Confused the young demon lord reached up and touched some of the soft petals of the wildflowers Kayo was given... and they were woven into a crown!
Milim's blue eyes widen as she looked at the kitsune who smiled at her.
"They are special little one. They were given with love and thoughtfulness, so I'm sharing that with you to. Oh! Let me add them to your hair, there's still a lot." she mentioned as she showed the demon lord that she had made flower crowns for the little gifters as well but only with the colors they had given her while the one the Kitsune and Milim had on their heads were made up of all of them.
"Sissy! Add them to my hair please!" she asked Kayo, getting her attention back as the kitsune smiled.
"Sure, let's take a seat for a bit and then we can finally eat." Kayo mussed as a red cloth covered bench suddenly appeared for them to sit. Allowing the kitsune to make a flower filled braid for the demon lord who was excited and amazed by the kitsune's skilled fingers as they ran threw her pink locks, waving them into a pretty braid and adding colorful flowers to it. It filled the young demon lord with a strange feeling as she sat still and waited for Kayo to finish her hair.
"Wow~!" Milim was amazed when Kayo was done, sure it was just a simple braid with common wildflowers stuck everywhere, that's what it would look like to anyone else, but to the lonely little girl... it felt like the best gift ever, something built up in her eyes and chest.
"Are you okay Milim? Do you not like it?" Kayo asked worriedly, seeing the girl tearing up before she shook her head.
"No! I love it sissy! Thank you!" She giggled and hugged the kitsune tightly, Kayo struggled a little because of the strength but was able to breathe easy after. "I'm glad, now let's get some food before you vanish on me." Kayo joked and poked her belly, making the demon lord giggle as she and the fox started for the mess hall.
"Kayo! Your finally awake. Did you have a nice nap?" Shuna greeted her happily but noticed the other pink haired girl smirking at her from beside Kayo. Sparks crashed between the two as Milim hugged Kayo. "Sissy! Come on, you promised something not even you have tried!" she said out loud, getting Shuna too gasp in horror as she looked at the pair.
"Okay. Okay. Sorry to bother you, Shuna." Kayo apologized to her, but she didn't want the task of taking care of Milim on the young kijin. "Oh... it's not a bother. Big brother and Lord Rimuru are also taking a late breakfast, you can join them." Shuna told her but Kayo felt something ominous was coming for some reason.
'Then again, she left this red dress for me to wear. What is she planning?' the kitsune though as she looked at the embarrassingly curve hugging dress, and the 'straps' that like to slide a bit too much off her shoulders.
"Morning~!" Milim chimed in happily as she was eager to have some more food made by Shuna, and she got to eat with her bestie and big sister.
"Ah. Milim are you enjoying everything?" the slime asked, having noticed the flower braid and crown Kayo was also sporting, taking it as a sign that things were good.
"Yeah, Big sis couldn't walk 5 steps before someone offered her food or something! It was amazing! Look she even made me this and braided my hair!" Milim told the slime as she took the seat next to him in her excitement. Not paying the red kijin any attention but he wasn't focusing on the demon lord but on the beautiful fox that seemed to walk so gracefully and smoothly over to them... and then their eyes met, and he couldn't help but turn bright red. Looking into her golden eyes framed by her full dark lashes. Her dark hair braided and filled with flowers as she let it fall over her right shoulder, some dark strands framing her face. The red of her dress making her tan skin almost glow with some strange aura he couldn't look away from.
"BENIMARU!" Rimuru called the Kijin and wave his hand in his face to snap the man out of it.
"Ah! Yes Lord Rimuru?" he responded and looked away from Kayo who blushed and giggled, having seen his reaction, and kinda liked it. Milim noticed but quickly became disinterested.
"Do you know what this magical lunch is that Shuna is making?" the slime asked his general who shook his head. "I honestly don't know Lord Rimuru, she said it needed something, but it wasn't quite ready." he told the slime before Shuna came in with some covered dishes, a smirk on her lips. Confused Kayo gave the air a sniff and froze as she could smell eggs and fried rice.
'She wouldn't!'
Kayo thought in a panic as her heartbeat really fast from the unexpected step as the pink Kijin set the plate down, still covered, much tot eh other 3 confusion.
"Kayo wanted to make this herself but I couldn't help myself, it was just such a cute idea~. I hope you would forgive me, Kayo." Shuna mentioned and gave the Kitsune and odd look, the two males exchanged confused looks before the slime gasped as the dishes where uncovered.
"Omurice!?" Rimuru recognized it, confused why Kayo would have wanted to make this dish before he realized something was missing.
"I got everything right, but one ingredient is missing. Right, Kayo?" Shuna asked as the kitsune had to look away, her tails twitching and giving away that she was very nervous. "Kayo~ what is missing from the Omurice? You said the last step would bring good luck to Lord Rimuru and my brother~."
'SHE WOULD!' Kayo panicked on the inside as her whole body was bright red, keeping her lips shut tight.
"I see, Shuna don't worry I'm sure it will be good without the-" Rimuru was saying before Shuna gave him a strange look. Milim just ate it and was confused yet delighted. "Hmm~ it's got rice and stuff inside!" She exclaimed excitedly and about to eat the rest before Shuna stopped her.
"Hold on Lady Milim. Kayo has the last ingredient but she's keeping it all to herself. Can you convince her to share? I promise it will taste much better with it." she told the Demon lord and Kayo stiffened as Milim turned on her too. "Big sis. Are you really keeping the yummy last ingredient from us?" Milim asked and Kayo was becoming powerless against the two pinkest's attacks. So, she reached into her tails and pulled out the red bottle and set it on the table.
"Eh?" the 3 where confused to see the red bottle before Rimuru eagerly grabbed it and squirted it over his omurice and ate it. "Delicious~!" the slime moaned happily as he could taste how well the ketchup mixed with the eggs and rice in his mouth. "Lord Rimuru, there is supposed to be a special spell, do you know it?" Shuna asked and the slime looked confused as he swallowed, looking over at Kayo who looked like she wanted to disappear right now.
"A spell? On food? That doesn't sound like something Lady Kayo would do." Benimaru voiced, confused as he looked at Kayo who was looking very panicked for some reason, it didn't help Milim was also trying to get her to do the 'spell'.
"Show it to me sissy! Please! Don't worry about these two! I'm your cute little sister! You can't say no to me~!" she teased the kitsune and it seemed to offend Shuna a bit. "Kayo~ its fine if you don't want to. I just thought I could be of help to you just this once." Shuna started and Kayo perked up. "It's fine Shuna, but um... please tell me before you do this." Kayo asked as she looked very embarrassed and grabbed the ketchup bottle nervously and carefully started to draw on her omurice muttering something that no one could understand as Rimuru started to recognize what she was doing.
"There, it's a cat." Kayo presented a very simple looking cat drawing done in ketchup.
"Oh~! Do mine! Do mine!" Milim asked eagerly as Kayo started on Her's but not a silly cat but the Japanese kanji for 'Beauty'. Confusing the demon lord who didn't understand it at first. "Try it now Milim." Kayo told her as the demon lord scooped more into her mouth and her eyes lit up in excitement. "SO GOOD!" she yelled and eagerly ate all of it, shocked at how much better it tasted with the spell and ketchup.
"Now you just have to do Benimaru's too~ can't have him being left out right?" Rimuru grinned, now in on the plan as Kayo let out a small noise that was almost cute. "Y-you don't need to Lady Kayo. I'm sure it tastes great with or without..." he tailed off as Kayo started on his food... his face red as Kayo focused on what she was doing and making it look perfect. The other three watching with great interest before Kayo was done and slammed the bottle down a bit too hard.
"Be sure to eat it all up. It... it was made with love." Kayo told him as she looked away, her face bright red as the Kijin's hair as he read what she had done to his food.
'Love' in Japanese Kajji.
"Aww that's so cute~. This is the way you should have confessed to him Kayo." Rimuru mussed as he ate his food, a little sad he couldn't have her draw on his.
Kayo felt like she was having a heart attack form just that cute but stupid action, taking a peek at Benimaru's reaction as he stared at it and then took a scoop form it, hesitating before he met her eyes and the kijin slipped the omurice into his mouth so Kayo could see his eyes light up and his body relax. Shuna was smiling widely as she saw her brother eating all his food, having sneaked in something she knew he wouldn't normally eat, because he would eat whatever was on his plate if Kayo had a hand in making it.
~After Breakfast~
"Oh Lord Veldanava, my heart." Kayo muttered as she was alone for a bit. Having used the excuse to make the special dessert to get away and calm her beating heart, placing a hand over it as she counted the beats, taking deep slow breaths. "I can do this. I've done it before right? It's bound to work." she muttered, blushing as certain memories came to her, of lives she didn't remember living but felt so familiar. "He's mine." she muttered and smiled happily, blushing as her tails wiggled in excitement before Souei appeared beside her, down on one knee. "Mistress, welcome back. It is good to see you again." he said, eyes closed and head down, Kayo's giddy mode dimed a little.
"Do you have something to report?" she asked him, trying to stay calm.
"Yes, the Nogitsune have spotted 3 groups entering the forest, 2 of those groups are human, but the other is a group of 4 beast men in armor, no visible weapons." he told her swiftly, still not looking at her and Kayo looked up as she used her Kitsune Possession skill to see what her 'foxes' where seeing. "I see. Keep the group of 4 Humans safe. They're familiar faces and I don't want any harm to come to the young lady with them. As for the larger human party, keep eyes on them, I will handle the beastmen after I serve dessert since they are closer to the village." she reasoned as she felt calmer now, focusing on how best to greet their 'guests'.
Souei standing up and looking at Kayo who was lost in thought in front of him, her tails twitching as she formulated plans to best deal with the different groups. He got close and wrapped his arms around her, snapping the kitsune from her thoughts.
"Souei?" Kayo questioned, blushing, but looking sad as her golden eyes stared at him only to get his lips on Her's in a soft kiss. "Have you decided?" he asked her as he pulled away slowly, Kayo blushed, trying to pull away but he held on to her firmly. "Souei, I'm sorry but, there can only be one, and I choose Benimaru. You deserve better, someone who will cherish you and you alone." the kitsune told him but she looked sad to let him go.
"I will only use you." she admitted to him.
"Then use me mistress." he asked her seriously as Kayo looked at him in shock as she blushed from his words, the kijin taking that change to get close to her lips again. Before she covered his mouth and tried to push him away again. "N-no. No more of this. If you keep doing this, I'm going to have to really punish you. It's the law, approved by Rimuru." she warned him but the kijin slipped past her hand, only nuzzle her neck. "Then punish me mistress~." he asked her, making her blush before she froze in fear as her golden eyes locked with crimson.
Benimaru having come to check on her only to see her in Souei's arms.
'NO!' Kayo couldn't help but think in her panic, as she tried desperately to get out of the ninja's grasp only to be let go as the ninja loosened his hold on her. The two kijin communicating before Souei left her with Benimaru without another word to her. Kayo sighed as she strained herself up and found the crimson kijin's arms holding her gently but firmly. "Benimaru?" She called his name, unsure of his expression or thoughts as he held her close and kissed her cheek. "What's for dessert?" he asked her casually and Kayo was confused and flustered with his arms around her.
"C-chocolate pudding, with whipped cream and strawberries." she told him as he felt him nuzzle her neck and kiss it, making her shiver with that simple action as her tails fluffed up in excitement. "Hmm~ you make the best desserts." he praised her as Kayo shivered more at his praises, her tails happily wagging and making the Kijin chuckle.
"Lord Rimuru and Lady Milim are waiting. We shouldn't keep them long." he told her and slowly let her go, Kayo let out a disappointed mew, pouting as she missed his warmth. "Right." she sighed and pulled the desserts from her tails along with some trays and spoons.
"Dessert is ready~! Get ready to enjoy the simple but beloved Chocolate." Kayo voiced cheerfully, acting as if nothing had happened as she presented the dessert to Milim first and then Rimuru who looked at the dessert with his mouth watering. The two small powerhouses took their spoons and dipped it into the smooth brown dessert, getting some of the whipped cream with it and then popping it into their mouths at the same time, before gushing over the new flavor filling their mouths.
"SO GOOD~!"
They both praised happily and ate their pudding dessert until the got to the sweet strawberry. Milim happily munched on Her's, the taste of the whipped cream and pudding still on it, tasting even better to young looking demon lord who was really giddy from the amazing dessert.
"Hey, what about yours and Benimaru's desserts?" Rimuru asked as he held off on his strawberry, but he also noticed Kayo's tails dropping as she stared at them enjoying their pudding with longing. "Oh! Um, well I made him a different flavor." Kayo voiced as she offered the red Kijin a caramel-colored pudding with whipped cream and a cherry on top. Kayo was blushing and both Rimuru and Milim were confused as to why.
"Hey! How come he gets a different one?" Milim asked pouting as Benimaru took the dessert and tried it, and was happily taken by the taste, curious why he got a cherry on his. The slime smirked as Kayo was blushing before she gave her response, or half of it. "Chocolate is poisonous to canines." she told them and added 'And I like kissing Beni~!' in her mind.
"And you like kissing Benimaru~. That what you were thinking wasn't it?" Rimuru added as he saw the fox become red with embracement as she was caught.
"N-no! I heard chocolate goes really good with strawberries, but I couldn't taste it, so you two are the first to try the chocolate pudding I made. Benimaru gets butterscotch since I didn't make more than two chocolates without getting sick." Kayo told them as she pouted, disappointed she couldn't have chocolate and strawberries anymore. "Can't you just turn into another species? Like Rimuru? I saw you do something like it in the bath to keep your tails dry?" Milim reasoned as she tried to reach for Rimuru's strawberry, which he pulled out of her reach and notice Kayo's eyes following the redberry intently.
This gave the slime a nice idea.
"Milim's right. If you can turn into something else, I'll feed you this strawberry~." the slime tempted her as Kayo glared at him. "No." she bluntly refused and was walking away to try and calm herself down, and maybe sneak a kiss form Benimaru later to taste the butterscotch. "What if Benimaru feeds it to you then?" Rimuru asked, smirking as Kayo quickly spun around and slammed her hands on the table in front of him. "DEAL!" she said before her face turned dark red in realization.
Milim pouted and glared at the red haired Kijin.
"What's so special about him? He's not even that strong." she questioned, pouting as she crossed her arms but watched as Kayo sighed and tried to think.
"Okay so I just have to change into another species, but I will still be a kitsune... it would poison me. You would want to poison me, Rimuru-nee-san?" Kayo asked, blushing and looking at the slime cutely to try and get him to forget the deal. "Not if you do it right. Or I guess I'll just eat it." the slime held the fruit above his head as he widened his mouth to eat it whole. Both Milim and Kayo looking at it intently and ready to just nab it form the slime before someone else did.
"You want me to feed this to you? Turn into a Kijin." Benimaru asked, as he held the coveted strawberry between his fingers, smirking at the cute kitsune. Kayo blushed and closed her eyes as her form shifted slightly, her tails disappeared as did her ears, only to be replaced with two black horns, Kayo's dress getting a bit tighter on her but still fit nicely.
"There. I did it." she sighed before Rimuru and Benimaru looked at her closely.
"Nope, you turned into an Oni. That's cheating." the slime tattled on her as Great Sage had told him the difference between a Kijin and an Oni, it was hard to tell with Kayo's caramel skin but apparently, she had eye markings that looked a lot like cat eye makeup, and the thicker horns gave her away as an Oni too. "Try again. I don't want you getting sick form this." Benimaru voiced as Kayo blushed and nodded, taking a breath and trying again... slowly Kayo's form changed again, and her horns became slimer and smaller but also change from black to white with some red markings on them, and the markings on her eyes nearly disappeared as well.
The red Kijin gulped as she opened her eyes into a very beautiful golden color that almost glowed with an inner fire as she looked at him, a smirk on her pink lips as she licked them slowly. "Now can I have my strawberry, Master~?" Kayo purred as she fluttered her eyes at him as he just held the sweet fruit to her lips as they parted to take a bite of their sweet reward.
"Hmm~ Delicioso.~" Kayo purred happily as she enjoyed her first taste of chocolate and strawberries in her new life, giggling happily from the taste alone but opening her eyes to look at the bright red kijin who looked at her, stunned and almost aroused as he looked at her. Kayo smirked and took the rest of the fruit, being sure to lick the chocolate from the kijin's fingers suggestively as their eyes locked.
"Okay, this just got awkward." the slime voiced, looking away from Kayo teasing his general and Milim looked degusted by the display making a gaging noise.
~Later~
"Stupid responsibilities." Kayo cursed, pouting as she was out with Milim who was happily eating one of the sweet pies Kayo had been gifted earlier that day, both of them walking down the main street of Rimuru City to intercept the guests that had entered the city limits and form the looks of it were causing a commotion that Rigurd was trying to handle on his own. "Rigurd! I heard there was a problem. Is everything alright?" Kayo asked, the crowed of various monsters parting for her without any prompting other than her walking towards the Goblin King and their guests. Kayo could recognize the 4 from her suburbanites visual of the 4, and it seemed that the purple haired male was the leader.
"L-Lord Kayo." Rigurd looked at her, stunned as he saw her approach and heard her inch heels clack along the cobbled streets confidently. The kitsune's golden and new demonic eye studying the beastman who looked at her with confident interest. However, he gave off a pungent Oder of old sweat and jock strap, so she had to keep her guard up while looking innocent. In the middle of the city with so many on lookers it would be dangerous to start a fight.
'Stand by for containment and evacuation.' she sent the message to her subordinates who were watching the beastmen closely.
"Are you the leader here, little fox? I am one of Demon Lord Carrion's Three Beastketers, Phobio, the black leopard Fang. I am the strongest warrior of the Animal King's Beastketers." He told her pridefully, Kayo looked at him with disinterest and crossed her arms under her chest, thinking quickly on how to best deal with him.
"Oh? And why would your lord send a foolish kitty like you to our humble little village?" she asked, sounding ignorant and unimpressed. Striking a nerve with the proud and foolish leopard who gave a lot of information away without even being prompted. "It's a nice place you got here. Fit to be ruled by the animal king, don't you think? You look like a smart little fox; you know how powerful Lord Carrion is. Why not just let him take it off your hands?" He mussed and came closer to Kayo, Rigurd wanting to stop him, but Kayo put a hand on his chest to stop the goblin king as she turned her back to the beastmen.
"No. I don't think so. If that's all you came here to say, then leave. You can tell your Lord to come here and try to clame it himself if he's so strong. I don't follow a leader I have never seen nor will-!" Kayo was saying as she had her back to the beastman, within a split second she had to decide how to act with the attack coming right at her...
So she took it and did a dramatic fall onto the cobbled streets.
"LORD KAYO!" Rigurd yelled in shock as he kneeled to pick up the 'injured' kitsune who had to tell her subordinates to hold, that however didn't stop the normal on lookers from giving the foolish beastman deadly looks.
"He attacked while her back was turned!"
"Coward!"
"He hurt Lord Kayo!"
"Basturd!"
"Go back to your lord!"
"Get out of here!"
Where all cries form the on lookers, some even threw stuff at the beastmen that had attacked Kayo who was whimpering in a very pissed off Rigurd's arms. "You dare to hurt our beloved Lord Kayo? You will not leave here alive." the goblin king growled but there was someone more powerful the beastmen had pissed off, their visitors were confused to also see even fellow beastmen turning against them so easily.
"You hurt My big sister! You're gonna to pay for that!" Milim growled as the crowd had parted for her as she not only was pissed off, but she was also giving off visible malice, the ground below her cracked and she launched into an attack. "Agh! The Demon Lord Milim!?" the Beastkater recognized the little demon lord to late, and his fellows also knew it was also too late for them. Phobio however was still willing to fight, even if it was with a Demon Lord. "Lepard Fang Flaming Plam!" he yelled and tried to meet the young girl's attack, but it only caused a whirlwind of their attacks clashing high up into the air, as a barrier had been put up to protect the non-combatants from the blow back, two powerful attacks shook the ground they stood on.
"Is anyone hurt?" Kayo asked out loud as she held her hand out, having erected the barrier to protect the people, no longer faking her injury, the only thing harmed was her dress that no longer had the annoying straps or a back, thankfully only the lace seemed to have been destroyed as the front and most of the skirt were okay. The kitsune frowned as she saw the burned and mangled flowers in her now messy hair.
"This is a mess, and I liked this dress too." Kayo pouted as Rigure looked worried. "Lord Kayo are you truly, okay? Did that savages' attack hurt you in any another way?" he asked her worriedly as Kayo shook her head. "No. I barely felt it to be honest. I could have just taken the attack but there is more than one way to skin a cat." she whispered to him as he glanced Milim who was coming over to Kayo, looking very worried.
"Sissy, are you okay?! Should I have punched him harder?" she asked, blue eyes looking at the kitsune with worry before her hand was placed on top of her head. "I'm fine, Milim. Thank you for defending me, that was so sweet of you." she praised the girl who lapped it up happily before she stopped and stood up, with a worried Rigurd beside her as she got up. Only to notice that she had to hold up the front of her dress. She turned to the remining beastmen that had come with Phobio.
"Is this how Demon Lord Carrion obtains followers and land? I must say I'm very disappointed." Kayo asked the beastmen that where still standing and just looking down at their fallen comrade, not even daring to touch him for some reason. "How sad, it's no wonder so many of your fellow beastmen are coming from your kingdom to live here. Or is that why he sent this little kitty? To test the waters for an invasion perhaps. Or for him to be a toy for Lady Milim to destroy?" Kayo asked as she smiled sweetly, the 3 beastmen falling to their knees and bowing to her as they could smell her malice rather than see it.
"P-please forgive us! W-we were only sent as scouts! As you said many of our fellows have left our kingdom and Lord Carrion was worried his people were being taken and that they were endanger. What Master Phobio said about taking over your village was him just showing off." The Goat looking beastmen voiced, sounding terrified of the kitsune who loomed over them so confidently. "Oh? Why should I believe you? Your leader has already lied to me, what esurance do I have that you aren't lying to me too?" Kayo asked as her left eye turned black as she used it to assess their power, the 3 remining were not much but the leopard could take on her Benimaru and Souei.
"Please. Spare us, we ment no harm. Allow us to go back to our lord and report." the goat asked looking worried as her fellow, the monkey and rabbit bestmen nodded. "And report what? I can't trust your leader why should I trust his underlings?" Kayo asked seriously, not trusting the scared beastmen to be truthful.
"Lord Kayo! I can vouch for them!" came a voice from the crowed as a female brown rabbit beastmen came over to them without fear of the fox nor Milim. "Usagi!" the rabbit beastmen called out, looking worried as they saw the small girl rabbit hug the kitsune and look up at her pleadingly. "Please don't hurt my big brother, Lord Kayo. You spared us before can't you do it again?" she asked tearfully as Kayo was confused before she looked back at the rabbit beastmen who looked terrified.
"Y-you were that fox!?" he questioned in shock as Kayo took a look at him again.
"Oh!? So you are, I hope you're doing well for yourself. Your hardly any bigger from the last time I saw you and your sister." Kayo mused as the thought about the two rabbits that she had found sleeping on top of her.
"Y-yes. Thank you, L-lord Kayo for sparing our lives and giving us names." he nodded, looking unsure about her odd change to a kind woman and even pet his sister's head! "Are you really being truthful to me, little Huni?" She asked the rabbit with a kind smile as he blushed when she called his name... a name she had accidently given the two rabbits before she left them in the warm burrow. "Very well, but the trip must have been long, you must all be starving. Please allow me to treat you to a good meal before you go." she offered kindly, but she had another motive now that she knew she could have another 'fox' in Carrion's territory.
"Kayo!" The fox's ear twitched as she heard her name being called, only to be shocked to see both Benimaru and Shuna in front of her, looking very worried. "Who did this to you? Are you hurt? Did they touch you anywhere else?" Benimaru asked, looking at the damage done to her dress after pulling the nearly naked kitsune into his arms to help cover her up with his wide sleeves, Shuna set a cute white kimono top with Sakura flowers on the wide sleeves over her shoulders to help cover her.
"I'm fine, it's only the dress that got damaged. The fall was just for dramatics." She assured them softly as she slipped on the top quickly, the 'ribbon' she was wearing becoming her belt to hold it closed. 'Oh? Now you're going to cooperate?' She mussed before she turned to the beastmen again who looked at her in confusion.
"Rimuru!" Milim called out excitedly to the slime who had just arrived from visiting Vesta and Gabiru in Valdora's Cave. "Didn't you promise not to cause any commotion without my permission?" The slime asked, looking annoyed and tired with the chaotic demon lord. "Huh? Er, well... This is different! Yeah! He's not from this town so it doesn't count! He even tried to hurt Sissy Kayo!" Milim tried to reason btu the slime wasn't convinced. "It does count. Kayo can- What!? Kayo what happened!?" the slime suddenly asked as he noticed Kayo was wearing something over what remined of her charred dress.
"The kitty played dirty and attacked me while my back was turned. Don't worry Milim, I think you did good, and he's still alive too." Kayo praised the girl who looked very happy to be given credit for her restraint.
The slime didn't look pleased.
'Your being too soft on her.' he thought to his fox sister who smiled back at him. 'Do you want her going in for a few more punches if you do punish her for just one?' Kayo questioned and the slime found himself giving up that argument... because it sounded like something Milim would do.
~Meeting Room C~
"So why did you really come here for?" Rimuru asked their guests after they had been served their food. Kayo had requested for them some nice fruit and veggies for the herbivores, and a bit of meat for the other two. While 3 out of 4 of them happily dug into their offered lunch, their leader only glared at his offering that looked strange but smelled very tempting as he crossed his arms and ignored the food.
"You expect me to answer to a lowly slime?" He asked, glaring at the slime that was in Kayo's lap, sitting on top of 3 of her tails she had out, concealing the others for the moment. Of course, the room got tense with his comment before Kayo chuckled as she pets Rimuru's head like an evil villain from a movie.
"This 'lowly slime' is stronger than you, little runt. Your very undersized for your species it's clear you're lacking. So be a good boy and eat your food, at least your fur will shine brighter than your mind." Kayo spoke to him as everyone in the room looked at her and her confident smirk. 'I can't tell if your concerned or putting him down.' the slime thought at his fox sister, feeling a little like a pet being in her lap but it wasn't often he could just lay on her soft, warm, fluffy tails and have her pet him with her slightly roughed up hands.
"As if your much better, Kitsune. Don't think your stronger than me just because you're an old hag." Phobios spat out and the petting stopped. The room turned cold as Kayo let out her malice, her left eye changing as some tail like looking shadows appeared on the walls, getting close to the beastmen who looked very nervous and scared.
"I would tailor your words more carefully, kitten. You would be making enemies of The Jura Tempest Federation for your Lord, and that's not a very wise thing for a lowly subordinate to do on behalf of their master." Kayo reprimed the leopard beastmen before the pop of a cork was head behind them. Phobos jumped and turned around, only to suddenly see a male orange kitsune holding a green bottle and a female blue kitsune with a sliver tray of 5 wine glasses, both foxes having 2 tails as the large orange one poured the red blood like liquid into the glasses and then the blue female fox set them down for the beastmen, the last one was for Kayo who took it without looking at the foxes who then vanished like an illusion.
"Give it a taste. It's one of my latest batches that's ready to be shipped out to Dwargon." Kayo encouraged as she twirled her glass, dropping the name of their allied country to see if the leopard would still be so argent. The beastmen looked uneasy at their glasses before the rabbit got the courage to take a sip... and was amazed. "WOW! This is really good Miss Kayo!" the rabbit beastmen, Huni, praised and the other two gave it a sip and where delighted. Phobois however was glaring at the glass like it was threating him.
'Are you... killing them with Kindness?' Rimuru asked, trying to understand what Kayo was doing as were the others in the room, besides Milim who was enjoying her lunch and apple juice, since it was sweeter. The kitsune herself just causally sipped the wine, enjoying it and the enraged look on the leopard's face.
'Southern Hospitality.' Kayo corrected.
"I don't need your food or wine. You're just trying to get on my good side because you're so weak. Well, it's not going to work." Phobos hissed at her and swiped his plate and glass off the table, but it never touched the ground. "Who's to say you didn't poi-" he was saying before he heard, and felt, a snap form under the table, very close to a sensitive aera for any male as he stared at the kitsune, she gave him a murderous stare. Her left eye unnerving him more than anything for some reason.
"I wouldn't finish that sentence if I were you. Now sit and eat your food like a good kitty." Kayo said calmly but inside she was raging as the orange fox from before setting down Phobio's plate back in front of him as well as refilled his glass before disappearing again. Phobio did sit back down but he crossed his arms and legs, looking at the Kitsune woman and the monsters that had joined them and been introduced.
Rigard the Goblin King, Benimaru the Samuri general, and Shion the Secretary and bodyguard of the Slime, didn't appear all that impressive to the leopard beastmen. Besides Milim, Kayo seemed the most dangerous out of all of them, and oddly familiar.
"Y-you don't get to order me around. I don't believe this whole town is loyal to a lowly monster like this. Or are you just using the slime as your cover Kitsune? Ha! That's way more believable, even if you're taking in all these weaklings. Don't get a big head just because Lady Milim took a liking to you." he laughed, trying to appear brave even if the kitsune woman was scaring him a bit with that dark eye still looking at him, unblinking.
"Hey! Don't look down on my big sister or my friend! She's being nice to you even if she could kick your ass back to Carrion." Milim piped up, having finished her lunch and juice, coming over to hug Kayo and glare at the beastmen who looked a bit startled and even more scared. "There. There, Starlight. It's alright." Kayo assured the young demon lord who blinked in confusion. "Star... light?" she questioned, and Kayo gave her a soft smile. "A nickname or term of endearment. I thought it was cute but if you don't like it then I can try something else." Kayo mentioned, distracting Milim affectively, and the slime was in amazement at Kayo's well-honed skill of handling children or Milim at least.
"No, no! I love it big sis! Thank you!" Milim giggled happily and hugged the kitsune woman and rubbed their cheeks together as Kayo pet her head, all the beastmen looking at the fox in astonishment at her skill.
"Ahem. Right. Now while it's true I am a slime, it's also a fact that I rule 30 percent of this forest and Kayo is MY subordinate who protects The Great Jura Forest as a whole. If you're really serious, we may have no choice but to declare war. So, think carefully before you answer me." Rimuru spoke up, not wanting to let Kayo take the bulk of the work as he realized how much more she was taking care of compared to him.
"Lord Carrion ordered me to come here and scout out some mysterious Majin to serve him." Phobis finally told him and grabbed the food he was given, giving into his hunger and taking a bite before making it all disappear with a happy purr, giving the wine a sip before he finished it just as fast.
"Oh? He must mean us." Rimuru voiced and pulled Kayo into his thoughts.
'Seems Milim wasn't the only Demon Lord who had an eye on that battle.' He thought as Kayo responded with her own. 'I have a bad feeling about this. You wrecked one of their toys and I don't think it was just meant to kill some boredom. According to Milim's memory there where 3 other demon Lords who watched you take Geld Sr. Out. 2 male and one other female.' Kayo reasoned, referring to the late orc lord by his name rather than title.
Then she showed the slime what Milim had unintentionally given her, and the slime got a clear picture of 3 more Demon lords and put a name to the face as Milim had looked at the large blond man that was Demon Lord Carrion.
'I really don't like the feel of this guy.' Kayo mentioned as she showed Rimuru the other male that was with Milim while watching Rimuru defeat the orc, Calyman. The slime was unsure but trusted Kayo's judgment, even if she had yet to meet the demon lord in person.
"Something wrong Starlight?" Kayo asked as she could feel Milim's anger as the girl was very close to her, but the anger wasn't directed at her. "Nope! It's nothing big sis!" Milim smiled at being addressed by her new nickname as she let go of the kitsune to let her and the slime finish their meeting. "Well, we got the picture, you can leave now. Oh! And be sure to take some food before you go." Rimuru told the beastmen who were all surprised when 4 wrapped box lunches where set before each of them, a cloth and tag that had their individual names on it.
"Lord Rimuru. Lady Kayo." Benimaru looked to his two leaders worriedly, Kayo getting her wine glass refilled by the orange fox before she takes another long sip. "Are you sure about this?" Shion asked as she looked to the slime more than Kayo.
"We can't kill him. Can we?" the slime asked them but got a wine glass placed on his head, thankfully it was empty already. "No. That would be bad manners." Kayo reasoned and the slime went with her answer. "Right. Tell demon Lord Carrion that is he wants to talk; he can choose the date and contact us again." Rimuru told the beastmen before they were allowed to leave with their lunches. Phobios even taking his but not without giving a backwards glance at Milim.
"Doesn't look like he will relay any messages for us." Rimuru muttered worriedly as Kayo took the glass off his head. "I wouldn't worry about that. If the monkey doesn't then Huni will for us. He was one of those rabbits I met when I was out exploring, before I found Shuna." Kayo explained and the slime was once again reminded how much Kayo was doing.
'And that's not including whatever she's doing in Dwargon. I hope she's not over working herself.' the slime thought as he hopped off her lap and went to talk to Milim.
"Okay, I want to learn all about this Demon Lord Carrion." He asked, taking on his humanoid form. "I can't tell you that. We've sworn not to interfere with each other." Milim told the slime seriously as Kayo sighed, closing her eyes as she recalled the information she had obtained.
"The Demon Lord Carrion, also known as Beast Master, is the King of Eurazania, the kingdom of the beastmen. He's a lion Type beast man and one of the 10 great demon lords. He is one of the most active in the world along with Demon Lord Frey, A harpy, the queen of Fulbrosia, the kingdom of harpys. And Demon Lord Clayman the Marionette Master who has dominion over the Puppet Nation Jistav." Kayo nearly growled out the last demon lord's name as she drank the wine before continuing.
"The first two are at our southern borders with the puppet nation to our east.
