Chapter 8: Questioned

-With Tyson And Others-

As they sit on the sofa baffled they listened their surroundings. People were doing their own things and their quietness was starting to become creepy.

'That's it. Let's go do something. Practise, eat, walk, anything basically,' Tyson sat up.

'That's a good idea but what? We were just questioned by police and saw a very creepy picture. I don't think I can sleep at night,' Max shivered just by thought of the photo.

'That's why we need to do something to forget about it. Just like you two said, it's not like Kai is our friend or anything,' Tyson tried to ensure himself.

'You care, don't you?' Bruce asked and Tyson looked at his father for a moment.

'Okay, okay. For some reason I'm worried here and kind of want to know what's going on. I think we need to talk with Dickenson about this. I personally don't want to leave yet,' Tyson stated firmly.

'You want to stay here? Just to know what's going on with someone you don't even know? I don't think we need to and besides we have our own things to do back home,' Kenny said.

'I know but… Hey, it's Kai,' Tyson pointed towards the door. Others turned as well and were just able to notice a familiar hoodie and pants.

'Did he eavesdrop on us just now?' Max wondered.

'It looks like it,' Bruce replied and took his phone out.

'What are you doing?' Tyson asked.

'We do need to tell the cops that Kai was listening in. He will most likely tell everything he heard to his brother and that friend of his who police are after,' Bruce explained and stepped aside to make a call. Tyson dashed towards the door and went outside but he couldn't see Kai anymore. It was like he had vanished into thin air.

-With Kai-

Just like always it didn't take Kai long to arrive at the mansion. Without taking a breath he run upstairs and knocked on the door hard and in a hurry but there was no answer. Christian was probably still sleeping. With that Kai just opened the door and glanced inside but didn't see anyone inside the main room. Kai decided to step in and go check the room where Christian's bed is and sure enough there he was sleeping with calm expression.

'Christian, hey!' Kai called out and slightly poked the sleeping figure. Apparently, Christian was a light sleeper since he woke up immediately.

'Well, this is the first. Problem?' Christian sat up grumpier than usual but it wasn't surprised since he hasn't slept long.

'It's just… I wanted to meet Tyson and others one last time before staying away but… The cops were able to restore the footage from that store Rick and I went to and they were asking about me, you, Sara and Rick from them,' Kai spoke. Christian's eyes widened slightly but they turned to normal soon after.

'And I think they might look into our parents'… well, their deaths because Tyson's father knew him or something…' Kai continued.

'Or you told complained my actions to them?' Christian looked at Kai with calm eyes.

'Well, sorry. No one here actually cares for what the fuck I think!' Kai cursed.

'Forget it. Nothing we can do about it now but it will cause a problem,' Christian stood up and headed towards his desk, 'Even if they check parents' their records, they shouldn't find anything that would link anything to us.' Christian picked up his phone before writing something.

'We do have a problem with you and Rick because even if we make up a lie about your motives, they can clearly see something strange in the video footage,' Christian said as he sent a text.

'Like what?' Kai asked.

'Unlike the surroundings that Rick is able to freeze, video footage doesn't freeze,' Christian stated calmly but he began to look more stressed.

'Like what? Are you saying that they will see us moving and everything else still? Like book floating in mid-air or something?' Kai asked in panic.

'Book floating? Anyway, the answer is yes,' as Christian spoke Rick came inside.

'It might not work but we might as well brush it off,' Rick stated while walking closer.

'Fine. We can see what happens after that,' Christian nodded.

'It looks like we will head towards the police station when the time comes. Why don't you head back to the town and get yourself "caught" by the police,' Rick hit Kai behind the head.

'Don't hit me!' Kai growled but Rick laughed it off and left the room.

'Why not just do what Rick suggested there? I have a feeling that someone saw you while you were dashing here to warn me about them,' Christian stood up and headed back to the bedroom, 'Just tell them you followed Rick there and just did what he told you to. It's true even since he was the one who was touching the computers and Rick knows this already and is prepared to be questioned by the police,' he added before closing the bedroom door.

Kai sighed and headed outside of the room. There he leaned against the closed door and rubbed his neck. Last time at the police station didn't go that well and Kai doesn't want that happening again.

'You really have a talent with bringing trouble for us. For once I wish Marko hadn't killed you and we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place,' Tina sneered.

'You're still going to blame me in second here,' Kai told back.

'Of course, I do idiot. If you would stay away from humans, we wouldn't be in this situation now. You are part of the problem, the main problem. We have already lost three of our own because of you,' Tina stepped closer and didn't lose her annoying smirk while talking.

'I would say that I didn't intend to happen, but no one would listen,' Kai sighed while growling.

'Believe me you fucker, no one ever will,' Lara appeared behind him, 'Just because you're Sir's brother doesn't mean you can go and ruin everything!' she yelled. Kai wondered if Christian would be able to hear and hopefully not. He didn't need him here into this mess too.

'I'm not trying to ruin things,' Kai stated back but Lara was so pissed at everything he did that it was talking to a wall.

'Because of you I have lost everything!' Lara tried to punch Kai but he dodged it easily. He quickly jumped down the stairs and headed to the front door.

'So did I Lara! You're not the only one!' without waiting for the answer Kai pulled on his hoodie and left the mansion. He could hear Lara scream behind the door and Tina calming her down. Every time she would explode at him, he could see her little sister Anne over and over again. She didn't deserve to die back then. Shaking his head Kai headed back to the town and by walking this time.

-With Lara And Tina-

'That asshole! Let me at him!' Lara tried to run towards Kai who had left the mansion but Tina held her back.

'Calm down girl and be quiet. You do know Sir is trying to sleep there,' Tina kept Lara still and waited for her to calm down.

She eventually fell on her knees crying, 'Anne… my dear little sister…' Tina knelt down and hugged her the entire time she was crying. They didn't notice Mike standing behind them with his hands crossed.

'What are you thinking there?' Sara also appeared next to him.

'Hmm? Nothing really. Situation is shitty though,' Mike answered.

'Yeah, Rick informed me. We should get back to work anyway. We still need to find the bastard behind the ghouls,' Sara informed.

'I never tire from your swearing,' Mike laughed.

'Yeah, yeah. Are you going to help or not?' Sara kept on walking slowly past Lara and Tina and went downstairs.

'Fine,' Mike bluntly stated and followed her. He did glance at Tina and Lara while walking past them but stopped.

'No need to cry there anymore. Everything will pass eventually. You'll see,' with that Mike left them alone. Lara had stopped crying and watched Mike's back in thoughts. What did he mean by that? Didn't he realize how angry and upset she was?

'He's right you know. Let's get a drink, okay?' Tina smiled. Lara simply nodded after a while and let Tina to lead her to the kitchen.

-With Tyson And Others-

After Bruce's phone call Walter, Dylan and Faith had come back and checked the hotel's cameras. They were right and saw Kai coming in the hotel, hide and go out.

'Thanks for you call. If your theory about him going to warn someone, we might be too late,' Walter said.

'What if he was just scared and run off or something?' Tyson asked.

'That might be true too but we don't know yet,' Walter acknowledged Tyson's opinion and backed away from the computer. Police stepped out of the hotel and headed towards their car and as they sat down Kai appeared behind the trees with his hands inside the hoodie pockets.

'There he is,' Dylan pointed out. Just like them Bladebreakers noticed them and didn't wait for the cops to walk up to him.

'Hey Kai!' Tyson yelled and run up to him.

'Oh, hi,' Kai said.

'Hi? Dude, we saw you run off just now… well, a while ago. And police watched the camera footages. Why did you eavesdrop on us and run of like you had something to hide?' Tyson asked as others arrived as well including the police.

'Mind telling us?' Walter asked and Dylan was ready with his pen and paper.

'It just… freaked me out. After what I've heard, I can't really deny it now, can I?' Kai said.

'Did you go warn your friend then?' Walter asked next.

'I… Fine, I did but I don't know where he is now,' Kai replied. He kept his stance and wanted to make sure he didn't have to the station this time.

'Would you mind calling him here then? Since he knows what we know, it shouldn't be a problem telling him why,' Walter asked kind of nicely and Kai thought why. Bladebreakers and adults were quiet and stayed out of the questioning but it didn't make Kai feel any better. He didn't know where the conversation would be going.

'Fine,' Kai took his phone out and began to notice how hot he was about get, 'Before that though… Can we go inside or something?' Kai asked. Walter nodded and allowed Kai to lead the way, obviously.

Everyone walked back inside the hotel and Kai pressed Rick's number. It rang for a while before a familiar voice to Tyson and others answered.

'What now?' Rick sounded annoyed and it was either real or on purpose.

'Mind coming to the hotel where Bladebreakers are staying?' Kai went straight to the point.

'Why?' Rick asked.

'I think you know why,' Kai sighed deeply. Others didn't hear Rick but they were able to guess what Rick had asked.

'Relax. I'm almost there already,' Rick said and cut the call. Kai put the phone back into his pocket and sat down.

'He's coming if that's what you're wondering,' Kai said after noticing the look Walter gave him.

'While we are waiting, mind answering few questions?' Walter sat in front of him.

'I don't have any other choice,' Kai said.

'Are you okay? You seem more stiffer than before. Is it your brother again? Is he telling you…' Tyson asked angrily.

'No,' Kai abruptly stopped him.

'I am curious too about your older sibling. What I have heard from them, is that you don't get along very well,' Walter began carefully.

'Pretty much but brothers fight, don't they?' Kai replied and kept his eyes on Walter. He tried to keep the questioning from last time out of his head.

'I also heard from Bruce Granger here that your brother might know what happened to your parents. Does he?' Walter asked.

'Just check the police records about it. I never met them and no one has told me anything,' Kai said. it wasn't like he could tell them, Yeah, my mother was a vampire who bit father in the neck killing them both. That would be ridiculous.

'What's your brother's name then? How about your sister's?' Walter asked next but for this Kai was quiet for some reason.

'Problem?' Walter asked.

'No. I just don't see why you are asking that. They weren't at the store or at the alley at all,' Kai stated. His expression changed to visibly angry one and it didn't go unnoticed.

'In that sense that was unnecessary question but why don't you want to tell me their names,' Walter agreed with Kai there but he was even more curious about them now.

'Shit. What's taking Rick so long?' Kai thought turning his head away.

'Maybe because he just doesn't want to, mister police,' voice said behind them right after Kai's thought finished.

'Took you long enough,' Kai snorted.

'I think police was asking Kai that,' Tyson growled but Rick just shrugged his shoulders shaking his head and went to sit down next to Kai after taking his hood off too.

'Is that true Kai? You just don't want to tell their names?' Walter asked.

'I don't want to involve them in my business if there's no need to. Simple as that,' Kai said.

'Alright. I'm sure I can find their names through your parents records at the police station if needed,' finally Walter dropped that for a moment and turned his attention to Rick.

'I already Kai's last name is Hiwatari but what about you?' Walter asked.

'Rick Jones if you must know,' Rick crossed his hands and put right leg over the left.

'Must be fake last name too. Just like how Mike and Sara lied last time. It's not like they can say their real names,' Kai thought.

'Let's get straight to the point then. As you know we have footage of you and Kai from the store,' Walter started.

'Shouldn't this be talked back in the station? I didn't realize police would interrogate in public,' Rick through a question out of nowhere.

'We can do that too if you want and this should be talked in private but I don't think you would do that,' Walter replied.

'Works for me,' Rick smirked.

'You seem very… content with having a blood on your hands,' Dylan said this time. It was clear he didn't like Rick's attitude while talking.

'I just tried to save a friend there,' Rick raised his hands up, 'It wasn't like I was going to let that happen.'

'It's clear you save him but I'm wondering why did you two go delete the camera footage? It's clear you wouldn't get a harsh punishment from that since you both are underage,' Walter asked. He saw Rick's smirk disappear and take more serious expression on.

'It was my idea. A stupid one but it was mine. I didn't want to mix police into that mess. Police have better things to do than question two boys who wondered in the wrong place at the wrong time.'

'It took some time to get that idea. Where did you go before that? Do you live together?' Walter asked.

'We do and with both Kai's siblings and couple of other friends. It's just us,' Rick said. Kai glanced at Rick and wondered how much he was about to say.

'You all live together? Don't any of you have parents?' Faith asked this time.

'No. Kai's brother took us all in because he's the oldest among us and knows what to do and it has been this way a long time,' Rick said and leaned forward, 'What happens now? Do I ger a fine or what?'

'I'm curious about something though,' Walter glanced at both boys. Rick seemed arrogant and confident about himself while Kai was nervous and was looking at Rick a lot.

'Like what?' Rick asked.

'What Bladebreakers have told me about Kai's brother, your friend, he seems to control a lot of things. Like he's in charge of something and tells you what you have to do,' Walter began, 'I'm wondering if you two went back to your house, told him what happened and it was actually his idea to go delete the footage. It might be just me,' Walter finished.

'Just like last time. Walter is good at his job,' Kai thought. Of course, Walter would pinpoint two-two together.

'You have a funny imagination there man,' Rick laughed, 'Maybe we did talk to him about it when we went to him but it was still my idea at the end.'

'If that's true, we need to talk to him as well,' Walter said but Rick stood up.

'I'm sure you need to but he's not involved in this. You might need to bring… What was it called again? Oh, right. The warrant. But tell me, what's our punishment?' Rick asked with a smirk. He clearly knew that with video evidence and with his testimony, police would need hard evidence to bring Christian in or even talk to him. Until then, he would be able to refuse as long as he wanted, and Walter knew it too.

'This is enough. You do get a fine from me because what you did though,' Walter said and gave Rick a piece of paper.

'Well, thank you. Let's go,' Rick tapped Kai on the shoulder.

'Are you going with him?!' Tyson jumped up after hearing that.

'Where else I would go? It's not like I'll be coming here again,' Kai said standing up.

'Would you mind explaining that? If we need more information from you, we do need to have your information, from both of you,' Walter helped Tyson a bit. Kai glanced at Rick who slightly nodded.

Kai took his phone out and showed them his number, 'Call this in that case.'

'That's enough for now then. Thank you,' Walter nodded and left first with Dylan and Faith. Kai was about to follow Rick out too when his arm was grabbed.

'Can you give me your number too?' Tyson asked but Kai pushed Tyson's hand off.

'Sorry but no. Later,' Kai said and followed Rick out.

'Is it just me or did that just happen?' Max asked.

'Yeah, it did,' Kenny replied. Bruce and grandfather were concerned as well about Kai. He friend didn't seem to care that he had taken someone's life.

-With Kai And Rick-

'Was it a good idea to tell them that much?' Kai asked as they walked towards the woods.

'They wouldn't shut up otherwise. Besides, they can't do anything about it since they would need a warrant to talk with Sir. You are partly blamed in this since you liked to talk,' Rick chuckled.

'What if they do get a warrant? What then?' Kai was furious at Rick's attitude.

'You should have thought about that when you decided to talk with those friends of yours,' Rick snorted. His mood seemed to change in blink of an eye.

'Don't blame me. I wouldn't have told them that much,' Kai exclaimed.

'That way you would only raise their suspicion even more moron,' Rick growled, 'Just forget it for now. If that happens, we'll have to handle it then but now we need to concentrate on the ghoul problem,' he added sighing.

'But now you do have to stay away from them. Is that clear?' Rick asked.

'Yeah, yeah,' Kai said and kept quiet the rest of the way for couple of reasons, there was no more point of talking and Rick would just put the blame on him anyway.

-With Walter-

'He didn't seem to care about human life,' Faith stated in the car. Walter watched as Kai and Rick disappeared into the woods. Their house seemed to be that way but he didn't recall any houses in there.

'Is there a way to get the warrant? I have a feeling that we need to see Kai's brother,' Walter asked.

'Not with the evidence we have now. I can check their parents records at the station but that's about it for this case. We still need to find the rest missing people,' Dylan answered behind the wheel. They were driving towards the station in traffic.

'Please do that. If we can find evidence that Kai's brother knows about their parents' deaths and hasn't told about it to the police, that might be enough to get the warrant that they wanted so badly,' Walter instructed.

Wonder what's going to happen? It doesn't seem like Walter is going to give up.
