Occasionally I have (mostly short) Solas POV chapters, either because I find them entertaining or because they save me some exposition down the line. Here is the first.
Solas Has Pure Intentions
He watched the Warden lead her away, aware that he was scowling, and yet not quite able to bring himself to care.
"She's a beautiful woman," Varric said, and he turned his eyes to the dwarf, the scowl deepening. "What? I'm just saying, Chuckles. You can't expect other men - and occasionally women - not to notice."
He might have told Varric he was only watching her because she seemed familiar without his being able to place her. He was reluctant to speak of it, though, concerned to invite speculation. His memories of his time spent in uthenera would take years - perhaps decades - to filter back entirely, and until he had them at hand he wouldn't know whether he had, by some coincidence, touched her dreaming mind, or if the cause lay elsewhere. He had touched any number of dreams as he slumbered. It would be an incredible coincidence had hers been one of them - but it wouldn't be the strangest coincidence of his life.
Not knowing - and not having a plausible lie ready - left him uneasy.
"She is vulnerable," he snapped instead. "Not only apart from her clan for the first time, but experiencing life as an acknowledged adult for the first time. To have romantic or sexual designs on her at such a moment is reprehensible."
Varric quirked an eyebrow. "All right - but isn't part of being an acknowledged adult the ability to make choices about her own relationships? And, anyway, are you telling me that, or yourself?"
"You," he insisted stiffly, but a flicker of doubt might have crossed his face. "You, the Warden, Sera - anyone and everyone who has taken note of her beauty."
"So you, too, then," Varric prodded.
He was momentarily left speechless. "I have no intention of courting her," he said after a moment of fumbling.
"Good, neither do I," the dwarf told him, looking away to hide a smile.
He muttered something unflattering, and left Varric behind as he started for Haven himself.
