Chapter 30: Christian actually cares

-With Kenny-

Just like the store shelter, ghouls attacked the office building as well. But unlike with the store… it was further away and people weren't working together like they should have. In last minute people tried to keep the doors closed but ghouls came through even quicker and killed people one after another. The head officer, James, had pulled Kenny and few others towards the back but they weren't save. At this moment they were staring straight at the hundreds of ghouls.

'Someone… Help,' Kenny begged out loud mostly to himself. Ghouls had destroyed the connections to the other places almost immediately and it meant they couldn't call for a help. They did know from the beginning that Kai had asked his friends to come here but they hadn't arrived yet.

'These fucking monsters,' man said behind Kenny as they prepared themselves for whatever would happen next. Then they heard ghouls growling and yelling out when it became quiet. Kenny opened his eyes quickly since it felt familiar situation, and he was right.

'Rick!' Kenny called out happily and people behind him reacted too. Ghouls were frozen still and Rick was holding his hand up which was glowing as well. Then a girl stepped next to him, smiled and take a nearby pipe, like Rick did back in the mansion with a wood piece. She and Rick killed the ghouls quickly and after it was done, Rick lowered his arm.

'What did they do?' James asked quickly as Rick and Tina stepped closer.

'They saved us with their powers. Well, Rick used powers at least,' Kenny answered and ran up to them.

'Thank you again,' Kenny said as he stopped in front of Rick. Before either of them could answer a rock was thrown at Rick but he caught it easily.

'Hey! Why would you do that?' Kenny turned around quickly while still holding onto Dizzy.

'They are monsters too. You heard it from before. He and his friends are vampires!' man who threw the rock replied angrily.

'And who saved us just now and are trying to stop these ghouls! They found the vampires behind the ghouls but decided to try save us first, didn't they?' Kenny protested bravely and stood in front of Rick, trying to block anyone else from throwing something. James looked into Kenny's eyes and saw he was sincere while speaking. Rick looked angry but mostly annoyed, although who wouldn't be if someone threw a rock at you simply for your existence after you saved the person.

'Take is easy people!' James stepped in and everyone calmed down, 'It's clear we need their help and Kenny's friends, Mr. Dickenson and many others did point out that we need their help.'

'Alright. But how do we get out of here?' man said. Rick raised his right hand and it began to glow and then the time around them stopped moving. Few kids put few rocks up and let go only to see them stay up in the air.

'You just go quickly towards the BBA building and we do the rest,' Rick said and stopped using his power causing the rocks drop on the ground. Many unsure people only nodded since they couldn't argue against them.

'Let's go then,' Tina said and stepped outside followed by Rick. Taking deep breaths and taking kids into their hands people ran out led by James. Kenny was also running in front of them but he did keep an eye on Rick at least. He clearly used his powers few times and they could see why. They had to ran past many ghouls, in groups and separate.

-In The BBA Building-

Everyone was getting restless as they were waiting for any kind of news from the two shelters. Bruce had began to walk back and forth anxiously. He had no idea where his son was at the moment and he grunted at the end.

'Take it easy Bruce. We must hear from them soon,' Ruy tried to calm Bruce down but he was also worried about Tyson and Kenny.

'I hope so,' Bruce sighed and stopped pacing around.

'They are fine,' voice broke the silence and everyone turned around to see that Christian was awake.

'Big brother! I mean Christian. How do you feel?' Sara helped Christian up from the ground as he stood up fast as possible.

'What do you mean by that? How do you know?' Max asked as Christian cracked his own neck and rubbing it.

'You're kidding, right?' Lara questioned frustrated from the side and Max stepped back quickly.

'Wasn't he unconscious until a moment ago?' Max managed to ask calmly but he was still nervous.

'I was but unlike humans I can still see visions, dreams or whatever you want to call them. They are close and bringing people here,' Christian stated and just then they heard the first sounds coming from outside. Dickenson, Bruce and officer along with Rai looked outside and saw people running towards them.

-With Kai A Moment Ago-

They had managed to run past bigger ghoul groups and they killed the separate ones as people ran to the right direction. As they came closer to the BBA building Kai noticed Rick and Tina standing also on top of rooftops. They were leading other group to safety and Kai let out a small sigh of relief.

'Looks like they noticed us. I suggest running!' Mike yelled to the people on the ground and they ran to the BBA building with Tyson running in front. After few minutes people from Rick's side were on their sights as well. They had most likely used shortcuts and Rick's ability to move faster.

'Not many survived there,' Mike pointed out and Kai noticed it too.

'Damn it,' Kai cursed but did see that Kenny was fine. Turing back to the BBA building Kai noticed that Christian had stepped out and he did look much better. Christian stepped aside and let people past him as they ran inside.

'We better go too now!' Mike called out and snapped his fingers behind him. A ghoul army was coming towards them. Without a word Kai followed Mike closely behind along with Rick and Tina. They were last to arrive but Kai stopped at Christian's side.

'Go already. We'll talk later,' Christian pushed Kai forward and raised both of his arms forward. Kai jogged to the door and watched Christian send out a force wave again and more powerful one than last time. People inside looked shocked as Christian destroyed the entire ghoul army that was coming towards them.

Chane and James locked and blocked the door right away as they walked back in. Kai saw Bruce hugging Tyson and Kenny was getting hugs too. Christian walked past Kai like usual and was heading towards Rick and the others. Kai recalled his small talk with Kenny when it was just two of them and shook his head.

'Christian,' Kai called out quietly but Christian did heard him and turned around with his usual poker face.

'What? I don't have ability to read your mind,' Christian spoke normally and now Tyson and others knew they were about to talk. Kai had hoped it would be just the two of them and stepped closer.

'I just… I wanted to say that you were right… about everything you said,' Kai wasn't used to apologizing and he wasn't sure if he should do this now either. Christian's eyes widened for a moment before his expression returned to normal.

'Just forget it. Every one of us felt like you at first. It's nothing new,' Christian nodded, 'But I think you might need to stay put this time when this is over.'

Before Kai could answer Tyson stepped in and grabbed Kai's arm.

'Here we go again…' Sara thought from the side. Little did she know Tyson was more determined this time.

'What are you saying? He wasn't right about everything. Everyone can be mistaken,' Tyson pointed out and Kai pulled his arm away.

'I don't belong among humans anymore and it's clear Christian was right about that from the beginning,' Kai argued back tiredly. Tyson's stubbornness was annoying. Why would he even try to complain about this?

'But you did belong among us. Sure, he saved you and I understand that but what I heard from you while in the hotel and what we were told, he can't be right about everything. Why would you defend him after everything?' Tyson continued but he was losing his cool.

'Umm… Tyson? Isn't because they are brothers in the end?' Max asked. They didn't need to argue right now.

'If that was the case, then why would Christian here make Kai leave our team instead of helping him compete in the tournament?!' Tyson blurted out. Kai's head snapped towards Tyson with eyes widened and even Christian looked puzzled before he gazed at Mike who looked away nervously. Christian crossed his arms angrily but didn't say anything.

'Tyson, what do you mean? Kai was… part of Bladebreakers?' everyone asked shocked.

'I don't know where you heard that but…' Kai began but Tyson interrupted him.

'But nothing! Mike told me himself before we came here! You were our team captain!' Tyson added.

'Mike! Why the fuck would you do that?!' Kai cursed out and Mike just shrugged his shoulders.

'Hold on kids!' Rai was lost, 'If he was part of your team, why nobody knows about it?'

'Because this fucker here erased our memories about Kai including the pictures. Like Kai had never existed! He missed one picture of Kai and Ray and that's how we knew that they were friends,' Tyson turned to Christian who hadn't moved.

'What the fuck is wrong with you? Couldn't you have helped Kai instead?' Tyson wanted this out of the way right away, as much as possible.

Christian shook his head and kept his arms crossed, 'For you information, I did and from very beginning but it was clear he couldn't control himself. I didn't want to risk it by allowing Kai to be with you any longer. By erasing him from your heads I made sure that you wouldn't look for him either.' People around them were once again watching them like they were in a drama.

'We would have accepted Kai after the first shock!' Tyson protested back as Kai grabbed his shoulder.

'Stop it already,' Kai said as Tyson turned to him.

'I won't. I can't allow Christian control you anymore! Don't you see he only wants all of you do what he wants?' Tyson added.

'You don't know shit about that!' Kai tried to pull Tyson back but it didn't stop Tyson from turning towards Christian again.

'Don't just stand there! Answer me! Why would you do that?!' Tyson was almost crying.

Christian snapped instead and yelled out with very angry expression, 'To keep him safe from everyone!'

'Christian, calm down,' Sara spoke very carefully as she walked closer.

'Everyone? You mean… from us?' Bruce questioned next. Tyson had calmed down and Kai watched Christian too with wide eyes. This was the first time Christian sounded… angry but sad at the same time.

Christian walked closer to Tyson but spoke loud enough everyone to hear, 'You might have accepted him as a vampire, sure. But that doesn't make it safe. I have seen it before!' Tyson watched Christian's eyes and saw the same eyes with very different look than before.

'Like what?' Tyson asked as Christian turned around and put his head down.

'You're too naive, Tyson,' Christian continued, 'The moment humans learn about our kind, they will attack and kill us. Every single time and I have seen it before. It only needs one human to know about us and soon enough we have humans with weapons trying to kill us.'

'That's why you did what you had to do,' Kenny listened to them closely.

'My method may seem cruel but I had seen how Kai acted when he was a human and I knew I needed more stern hand with him,' Christian revealed.

'You… watched me? Did you always know…' Kai questioned shocked. He thought Christian had just seen him during the China tournament.

'That you were my brother? The very moment you were born. I watched you to see what our parents would do but they died soon after. I didn't want you to experience the same Sara and I did,' Christian stated. Kai didn't know how to react… And he had stated so easily how he hated Christian at one time… While Christian was just trying to keep everyone save in his own way.

Even Tyson's expression had changed to sad one, 'Humans have hunted you?'

'Many times… Like that Ryder who killed your friend Ray and almost killed Kai. People like him are called vampire hunters,' Christian stated with annoyed tone, 'So I apologize if I don't trust humans like you do.'

'Ryder?! He was a vampire hunter? Wow,' Kenny asked, 'No wonder you don't trust humans.' That was the reason why that man was there back then but it seemed like he didn't who he killed when hunting.

'You could have just mentioned this when we found about you and not make me look like an idiot,' Tyson frowned but both he and Christian were right. Christian did seem manipulative and harsh but all he ever wanted was to keep his siblings save.

'I'm sorry to interrupt this but you can continue this later after ghouls are gone,' Rai stepped forward, 'You mentioned you know who is behind this and by… killing them ghouls disappear?'

'Right,' Christian stepped back and turned to Kai, 'Who did you saw?'

'Erik, Gina and Matt. Those guys… from the warehouse,' Kai stated and Christian and others looked shocked.

'Didn't you and Mike kill them?' Rick asked angrily but he was mostly puzzled.

'You told Kai to kill someone?' Tyson jumped between them but was pulled back by Bruce.

'This is not the time Ty,' Bruce spoke and Christian and others ignored them.

'We did. No doubt of that. Someone must have turned the into vampires after that,' Mike defended himself, 'But I didn't see anyone there… They must have gone there later.'

'Right…' Christian tapped his right hand finger against his own arm while they were crossed. Something didn't feel right but this needed to end now. Now that he knew who to look for, there might be a chance to find them this time.

'What are you going to do now?' Mr. Dickenson asked next. People walked closer to them and without fear this time, like previously.

'I have to find them first,' Christian kneeled down on one knee and placed both of his hand on the ground. Everyone just watched him as his hands started to glow along with the ground, and straight after a small dark wave surrounded first Christian and quickly grew going past them and even outside the BBA building.

'Kai, what is he doing?' Tyson asked.

'You… He's scanning the earth to find them,' Kai stated. Tyson had about immediately began to treat him like a friend.

'Looks like he's at full strength again,' Bruce commented and placed his hand on Tyson's shoulder, 'Something tells me it won't be long before this ends.' Everyone watched Christian amazed as ground glowed along with Christian.

'Found them,' Christian stated and stood up, 'Let's go.'

'Everyone or some?' Rick asked quickly.

Christian walked to the wall placing his hand onto it and in minutes wall was glowing, 'Yes. Everyone. I put a barrier around this building. Ghouls won't come through.'

'How long this barrier holds?' Bruce asked with concern.

'Until I dismantle it or die,' Christian stated. People did let out small relief but some were still worried.

'1… 2… 3… and 7. There is seven of you and just three of them. Isn't that going overboard?' Max counted.

'Against vampires with an ability to make and control ghouls. Yes or no. Who knows what kind of other abilities they have,' Christian offered his hand, 'Crab hold. I'll teleport there.'

As Rick, Mike and others took a hold on to Christian's arm Tyson stopped Kai for a moment.

'I'm sorry about what I said but he didn't actually explain himself very well at first. Let's talk about this after everything. Okay?' Tyson begged at the end and Kai knew that tone.

'Tyson… I will say this now. Thanks to you I know how I feel about them,' Kai began and stepped forward few steps, 'Even though he's annoying and I don't still know how I think about this attitude with some things but… he is my big brother who cares about me in the end.'

'I get that but let's continue this later. So come back,' Tyson added and gave an encouraging nod.

'I don't know what you think the talk might do but fine,' Kai turned around one more time, 'One thing. As you know, they have turned dead people to ghouls too… Ray is one. If you see him, don't go out and get killed.' With that Kai touched Christian's shoulder they teleported away.

'Ray?! Damn those fuckers,' Tyson pulled his hair again. Others couldn't agree more.

'I think… that was the first time I've seen anyone that angry too,' Max added too.

'And I was really wrong about their father… Shit,' Bruce growled. He had slowly learned to notice when Christian was serious and when he wasn't. It was clear Susumu had a big effect on them to this day and maybe that's why Christian had began killing humans without a remorse from early age, like they thought in the first place. Christian clearly cared for his family but not humans and the reason was clear.

'Dad, what do you think happens after this?' Tyson asked.

'I don't know. Let's keep safe and hope for the best for now,' Bruce glanced at the barrier. They had a temporary defence for now but it didn't make waiting easier. It did gave time for them to think about the talk from a moment ago when it came to humans' attitude towards vampires, who also had feelings like humans did.

'Let's hope they keep themselves safe. It seems like it's not going to be easy,' Dickenson added, 'I'll try contact the government about this if I can.'

'We also need to see who survived the other shelters,' Chane volunteered to do that since he knew the people from the shelter they came from. James decided to do his part and write down survivors as well. Kenny and Tyson stayed with Max and others as three of them left. All of them sat down, mostly on the ground.

Tyson spoke up after a silence again, 'I feel like an idiot now. I don't like his attitude but I still totally misunderstood Christian.'

'We all did but that happens when all of the facts are not known. Don't be too hard on yourself,' Bruce smiled slightly.

'I just hope all of them come back, so we can talk about this among ourselves and not with an audience. No offence!' Tyson stated at the end and people around them nodded understanding, not all but some.

'Me too and hopefully Ray can rest in piece too after this,' Max agreed and leaned back against the bench while sitting next to Tyson on the floor. Now began the tortures waiting and who knows how long they had to do that.
