A/N: Hi, I know it's been a while but I was busy with my internship. But finally we managed to get to another update. Thank you for being patient and leaving nice comments! I hope you like this chapter.
Enjoy ^^
Later never happened and Hermione was glad for it. How was she supposed to tell Sirius she was upset because she had just seen him die? Again. She couldn't. He would start asking questions, questions she couldn't give him any answers to. He had no idea she was from another time, none of her friends knew, and she preferred to keep it that way.
The fatigue was still there but Hermione managed to hide it a little better, saying it were the upcoming exams and – slightly joking – that the quidditch team needed her motherly attention after each practise.
It wasn't so hard to believe and with the little comments she threw at them, they didn't notice a thing.
The lessons went on, the exams came nearer, the quidditch match came and went.
The day of the final quidditch game was grant to say the least. Of course, the brunette knew that would be the case, it having been like that during her own time at Hogwarts as well. It was something about the last game of the season, the last game of the schoolyear that made it so… special, worthwhile.
The fact that it were two enemy houses facing off, only managed to rile everyone up even further, banners and chants filling the halls and the stands. The Weasley twins would have been proud about the chaos that was ensuing. She at least knew the marauders were.
The match was… something. Both teams had used almost every tactic known to Hermione, flying from one end of the pitch to the other. Bludgers were smacked every which way and players were soaring and falling to the ground. More than once she had winced when someone made contact with the ground. No matter how often she saw it, the brunette never could get quite used to it.
Hermione would've liked to say that the game was a fair one, at least to close the season but then she would be lying. It was no secret that Slytherin liked to use certain… tactics that weren't so fair. Even so, Gryffindor managed to win and take the cup. The proud smile on Professor McGonagall's face a welcome sight.
The party that followed in the common room that evening was amazing, like usual. Food and drinks littering the table, everyone in a happy mood, even though the exams were right around the corner. What mattered now was that they had won. They had won the last quidditch game in their last year at Hogwarts. She couldn't be happier. And neither could Sirius or any other of the marauders.
They were laughing and pranking people and just having a good time. In that moment she wished she had a camera, wanting a picture of this exact moment, knowing what was to come after this.
Before Hermione knew what was happening, she was being turned around and her lips were locked with Sirius'. She hummed into the kiss, surprised but certainly not unwelcome. He pulled back and said, "Told you we'd win."
"You did." She gave him a peck. "I'm glad your last game went so well."
"Give me another celebratory kiss?" he asked with a mischievous smile. She could only smile and pull him closer for a real kiss this time, feeling how his arms came around her waist, holding her close.
"Listen up, everyone!" came James' voice.
Hermione let out a groan, laying her head on her boyfriend's shoulder. "He's going to give another speech like last year, isn't he?"
She felt him chuckle more than she saw it. "Yep" was the only thing she got as reply.
"We won the last quidditch match of this schoolyear!" This was met with cheers. "Unfortunately for some of us this was our last year, but don't be sad because I'm sure Clarke will do a good job as captain next year." Applause followed the statement, Clarke making a bow, half joking. "And let's not forget our team mom!"
Everyone turned to look at Hermione, the brunette lifting her head from Sirius' shoulder. "Without her we would've probably died of pneumonia or something like that. To Hermione and to the quidditch team!" He roared, finishing his speech.
"To Hermione and to the quidditch team!" and then they went back to what they were doing before.
When James and the others joined the couple, she told him, "Thanks for including me in the speech, Merlin knows how difficult it is to take care of one child, let alone a whole team," she teased him.
"Come on, we weren't that bad."
She raised an eyebrow, "Wait 'till you've got your own child to worry about. Merlin knows he can get in trouble easily."
"Why so certain?"
"Genetics," she shrugged. "Marauder blood and all that. Lily, good luck. We all know you're going to need it."
"Says the one who's also dating a marauder."
"Touché."
When the night came to an end, Sirius almost pulled her with him to his room. He wanted to cuddle but didn't want to sleep on the sofa. No such luck though. She gave him a kiss goodnight and went to her own room, Alice and Marlene already out cold.
The next days the excitement quieted down, people focussing more and more on the exams. Aside from that, Hermione also had to give her last few memories to Dumbledore. There were only a few left from her sixth year until the battle that got her here and she was planning to give them all in one go. She knew she would be utterly exhausted if she did so but after that she would have enough time to recover. Quick, she told herself, like ripping off a band-aid.
She also informed Dumbledore of this the moment she stepped into his office.
"Are you sure?" he asked her.
"I am. The faster this is over, the sooner I'll recover."
"As you wish. But don't forget that memories as emotionally loaded as these ones are especially tiring."
"I know." She gave him a humourless smile. "I've been doing this for almost half a year. I know how it works professor."
"As long as you are aware of it there are no problems." When she finished extracting her memories, she took a moment to catch her breath. And just before she left, he said, "I appreciate what you've been doing to help us." She just nodded and left his office.
However, the moment she opened the door she came face to face with Remus. Her eyes widened a little not knowing whether he had heard her conversation with Dumbledore. When she studied his face however, she knew enough: he had heard them. She didn't exactly know what he had heard, but he had heard something nonetheless.
"Aahh, Mr Lupin, just in time. I wanted to talk about something with you. Come in."
She looked at Dumbledore, a calculated look in her eyes. She watched him for a moment before coming to one conclusion. He knew. He knew Remus had been there and he knew with the boy being a werewolf that he would have heard. He knew.
Hermione left the office, making her way to the room of requirement, needing time to think everything through. He had promised not to tell anyone. And what did he do?
After a moment she let out a frustrated groan, followed by a humourless laugh. He hadn't broken his word. He hadn't told anyone, someone just happened to find out for themselves. That sneaky bastard.
But why? And why Remus? What was he planning?
She didn't have time to think about that now. She had to pull herself together and make her way towards the common room before the others started to ask questions. Even worse, she'd have to face Remus without fully knowing what he had heard, what he knew and what Dumbledore had told him after she had left. Could this evening get any more stressful?
When Hermione entered the common room, she took a seat between Sirius and Alice, getting a peck on the cheek from her boyfriend.
Hermione didn't know what they were talking about. It could've been something to do with one of their classes or they could've been talking whether or not gremlins would make good pets. She wouldn't know, her mind swirling with all kind of thoughts.
"Hermione, are you okay?" the redhead asked.
The brunette straightened up, her eyes focussing back on the people around her. "Hmm?"
"Are you okay?" She was looking concerned now.
"Uhm, yeah, I'm fine. Just a headache."
"Maybe you should go to bed early, sleep it off," Alice told her.
She waved her off, saying, "I'm fine, really." That moment though, Remus stepped into the room. She felt like she froze in her seat, their eyes locking. Before anyone could say anything she said, "On the other hand, maybe it would be better to lie down. Don't want it to get worse."
The brunette said a hurried 'goodnight' and disappeared up the stairs in a matter of seconds, the others watching her go in something akin to bewilderment.
