Is This The World We Created
Chapter 21
Derek so badly wanted to curl in on himself in the face of his father's disappointment. He'd always thought they would be proud of him, his non-violent approach…after all they had taught him it. When he had no choice but to fight back, that was different, a different world they were living in. A world drowning in fear and terror, as the Ordinary was exposed to the extraordinary. He had to fight to save his mate, his pack. One that had started a war that would have saw the last of humanity succumbing to death when the world literally ended in front of them.
Derek's 'I'm sorry' was on the tip of his tongue, the urge to grovel, to apologise to his family for what he'd done was so strong. Yet, the feeling of Stiles hand in his, squeezing tightly as if he was barely containing his anger. He could smell how pissed Stiles was, and it helped centre Derek too.
Derek straightened his spine; he wasn't that desperate kid anymore. Regardless of how he looked, he was a grown man and he'd be damned if he was looked down upon due to his past. He'd done what he felt was right at the time. He knew he was wrong to do it, he should have listened to his gut but he'd been conditioned from a very young age to run not fight. It had taken the end of the world and his mate coming along to recondition Derek's mind to do what had to be done.
Turning to face those who are so quick to crucify him, he spoke eyes a deep red the entire time. "You weren't there, nobody was, I had to figure out how to lead on my own. I led by what little example I could remember," huffing incredulously, "I actually thought for years you'd be proud of me, of how far I came." Staring at them coolly as if they weren't his relatives but subordinates.
Sebastian and Jasper cringed, the heavy weight of their Alpha's disapproval and disappointment weighing on them.
"If you don't like how Derek handled it, nobody is forcing you to remain a member of our pack," Stiles narrowed his eyes on them, "You know where the door is." Telling them they could go screw themselves without actually saying it.
"We'll talk about it later." Derek declared firmly, staring at his pack, demanding obedience while in public. Behind closed doors they could say what they liked. He knew the wind was changing, everything was changing, including how Wizardkind would deal with supernatural, including a council of their own.
Sebastian and Japer's mouths snapped closed where they were about to protest against Derek and Stiles' statements. They weren't blaming Derek in the slightest, glancing at each other in confusion. Realisation dawned between the two of them, belatedly realizing what they'd said and how it could have been construed. Their cheeks flushed and suddenly fund the table fascinating as Harry had earlier before this all started.
They did notice that Peter made no attempt to intercede but he'd made his respect and admiration for the young Stilinski very much known to anyone who would listen. A wry smirk spread across Peter's face just imagining the hell his father and brother-in-law were in for when they got back to some sort of privacy. Stiles was going to lay them bare, well, that and Derek unless he'd started to regress.
It was going to be glorious!
"Has this Eichen house always had that…that supernatural ward?" the president of MACUSA demanded to know, mind reeling over how he'd seen Stiles, a girl he called Lydia and the lost Hale girl, Malia he thought Peter called her. "Is it something we're going to have to deal with right away?"
"We'll have to anyway; do you not recall the Dread Doctors?" Stiles pointed out.
"Dread Doctors?" came the echoing question of a few dozen people, wondering what he meant. Were they part of the whole supernatural shitfest that was going on down there? Were they responsible for harming those with supernatural abilities? So, far they hadn't even heard of them but they also knew they had quite a while to go. The memories they viewed the people were younger, not significantly so, but enough that they could see that it's not the same ones that had saw the beginning of the apocalypse.
"They haven't been on yet," Peter pointed out placidly.
"Can't we just tell them?" Stiles asked, his hand rubbing over his head, he actually had hair at this point, before he had that buzz cut. "I'm tired of them watching me get my ass kicked." He grumbled under his breathe.
"They need to see them in order to prevent what's coming, you know that," Peter said, "And do not think for a second you are weak. It takes someone with inner and outer strength to run with wolves." Eyes flashing red in seriousness, and Stiles had run with wolves long before his spark manifested. He'd always been fiercely loyal, brave, intelligent and willing to do what must be done.
Stiles nodded, giving Jasper and Sebastian another glare before turning back to the wizards. "The rest of your answers will be found in the coming memories. If you think Eichen house is bad right now…you're in for a surprise." Resigned to everything being shown, but the worst had already been played for all to see. so, what the hell? This was nothing compared to watching his father die again.
Peter nodded to the president who seemed to be looking to him, he was the Alpha he supposed, and it would be an automatic thing to look at an adult instead of two children – even if it was only the outer package that was childlike – the rest of them were very much adult.
With permission granted, the president waved his hand and the memories resumed playing out in front of them. They found themselves with a common denominator, things continued to get steadily worse for the group as they traversed the perilous path.
Scott was attacked for his powers, as Theo returns to Beacon Hills to join Scott's pack.
Stiles warns Scott that something is wrong, not to trust Theo.
Stiles and Liam (Scott's first accidental Beta) follow Theo and find out he can fully shift and that he did not have parents.
"It's like he never learns!" Daisy grumbled, entirely exasperated, "Then again, we're aware that he doesn't." recalling the memories she'd seen earlier of Noah's demise. All because this, this, incompetent little boy wasn't listening to his pack. "Can I ask before we continue, what your actual place was in McCall's pack?"
Stiles scoffed, while Peter and Derek grimaced. "I was relegated to researcher but the thing was…my information…the information I spent hours sometimes days compiling wasn't always good enough. Most of the time he would toss the information aside and jump in putting everyone including me at risk. Mostly because he didn't want to kill something that can be 'saved' and all my information compiling I put down ways to kill them regardless of Scott's reactions."
"In the end even, I refrained from giving suggestions," Peter said wryly, "I learned that the boy would do the exact opposite of what I'd suggest and it put Stiles in a significant amount of danger three times." Nostrils flaring recalling those times, it was before he was handed off to the tender mercies of Eichen House employees.
"But you're the pack historian, the researcher and left hand…nobody knows more than you, or how to find that information." Jasper blurted out utterly bewildered, "Did Derek forget all that? Surely not!"
"Derek wasn't the Alpha at that point and had too much respect for an Alpha to go against them. That and I do believe Deaton was able to help Scott manipulate him." Peter replied indifferently.
The president cleared his throat, "May I continue?"
"My apologise," Peter told him, inclining his head.
They were in the police station, to find Tracy dead and Lydia injured.
The Dread Doctors come for Donovan.
Lydia receives surgery to fix her wound.
They watched with bated breath as Donovan and Stiles get into a fight. Despite the fact they surely already know the outcome, since Stiles was alive and breathing right next to them.
They made copies of the Dread Doctors books/records.
The pack attempts to capture the Dread Doctors whilst at the school and fail.
Lydia was put in Eichen House by her own mother.
Stiles confronts Theo about his dad.
Scott, Stiles, Malia and Chris find the Chimera who attacked Sherriff Stilinski and succeed in narrowly escaping the Dread Doctors.
The fracturing of the pack due to the manipulation of Theo and the Dread Doctors as well as Scott's Holier than Thou attitude. He wanted to be the Alpha only he didn't want to have to deal with it.
"Jordan Parrish melted his way into Eichen house," Derek explained, seeing as Stiles hadn't been there for that part. In fact, he was still furious with Ms. Martin sending her daughter in there to begin with. Especially knowing just what it was like in the supernatural ward. "It turns out Theo wanted Lydia in order to lure Parrish out."
They weren't surprised at having to be told, they had seen how distant the so-called Alpha had treated Stiles. It had fractured their relationship for sure as well as his relationship to the rest of the pack. Massive chunks of time were being made in the timeline they were viewing.
The fight with the Dread Doctors.
The fight with Theo.
The fight with the 'Desert Wolf'
"I'll track her down myself," Peter growled lowly, she'd attempted to kill their child, thought herself successful and that she lost her powers for not personally killing her. He'd have his pack settled, his daughter in his custody, and he'd kill the threat that his sister let live and wiped from his memory.
Nobody protested, for they had realized through watching Stiles' memories and conversations with Malia that the Desert Wolf had attempted to kill her. Why she was called the Desert Wolf was beyond them, but in the grand scheme of things it was unimportant.
Stiles and Peter getting caught by the Wild Hunt, the pair working together endlessly to escape the hell they're in.
Peter nearly killing himself to get them out of the train station, with the electrified fence that acted like a mountain ash barrier almost, but Peter succeeded but was burnt once again, three for three, but at least this time not by an Argent. Luckily this time he healed significantly faster and didn't end up dead.
Stiles handing over the keys he had over to Scott, upon a remark that 'it wasn't the keys to the jeep' Stiles told him what they were. Everyone's cars, properties and lockers.
Despite everything that happened between them, or what would happen soon enough…Stiles urged Scott to leave Beacon Hills and do what he wanted, that Beacon Hills would survive without him. It was time to stop putting their lives on hold. Stiles was ready for the next step of his life.
Naturally that meant a grainy picture of Derek Hale's wolf form caused Stiles to spew out his water he'd just taken a drink off.
Everyone in the room laughed in genuine amusement. Not only at Stiles reaction, but also the fact Stiles had a key to everyone's cars, houses, lockers and everything. Somehow it wasn't a surprise.
Even Chris was chortling in amusement, he could see what drew the werewolves to Stiles, even long before the end of the world. He was so loyal, intelligent, determined and most of all…always right. He kept everyone he cared for safe, and lashed out when things didn't go the way he intended. Which left him an anxious mess until he grew up a bit, and ended up with Derek (long after he was legal) presumably his past made Derek distance himself and allow Stiles to make up his own mind.
They rewatched the scene of Noah's death, watched Stiles give up his career aspirations, watched him focus entirely on making the pack thrive.
Watched the news appear on the TV about McCall's death, and it caused Stiles to break down in a way that his own father's death hadn't caused. It was the straw that broke the hippogriff's back they reckoned.
Watched as he grew more and more powerful, focusing entirely on his pack and their safety.
Watching them help others along the way, trying to keep anyone with supernatural powers safe, made an attempt at a sanctuary only to be betrayed. Watched them trust a fellow Spark and then watched a novice - which is what Stiles was – entirely wipe the floor of the trained spark. Obliterating him out of existence.
This made every single wizard and witch gaze at him in awe, there was no trace of fear for his capabilities here. Why would there be? For each and every one of them freely admitted, would do exactly the same thing to keep those he loved safe.
It would seem that the Druids had been quick to side with the hunters out of sheer self-preservation. They didn't have the magic to defend themselves to elected to join them. They betrayed the supernatural by using rituals for the hunters to get into the few sanctuaries that magical folk (not Wizardkind) were able to erect.
The last of the memories that played were the ones filled with hope after a long, arduous six nearly seven years of pure hell. Saw a thriving sanctuary a paradise, compared to the desolate, shattered landscape they'd just came away from, nature had already been trying to reclaim what was rightfully theirs.
With one last memory, Harry revealing just how long they had on earth, that the poison had spread so far and deep that the earth itself could not sustain life.
"Well, I scarcely know what to say," the President said as the memory platform dulled entirely, as the memories were wiped from it. Giving Derek a speculative look, the werewolf had left, not only Beacon Hills (good on him for that!) but he'd actually left his mate behind in a town crawling with every manner or danger possible. It made him wonder just why he'd done so or how he could have. It was none of his business, of course, he knew that, didn't stop the curiosity he felt. "It's definitely an unprecedented situation, I will say that."
"Half of this might not even come to pass when we begin meddling with time," Daisy pointed out, "We must have care what we interfere with at least at first, then begin dealing with the incidents that aren't as grave." Poor Peter, he must be so very strong to endure so much. Three times he'd been set on fire, if it happened to her once she'd have a terrifying fear of fire she reckoned.
"Meaning what? How are we going to deal with this?" Sebastian asked, making it clear he actually wanted to be included. "Regardless of what's happening we deal with Argent personally." Making his demands known to the war council.
"I think it's time to bring in the Aurors, while we deal with the people that require our immediate attention." the president declared, glancing around the room receiving nods from each of the council members. "Mr. Argent, are you finished?" they had been watching memories now for the better part of over seven hours not including the hour lunch break they'd taken.
Chris licked hi lips, broadcasting uncertainty and fear, mind mulling over the answer, was he finished? Had he remembered everything? No, he'd forgotten the 'Deluxe cabin' his father liked to call it, it was one of the worst, he was quick to add that to the list mentally trying to decide on everything. He swallowed thickly, they were going to know just what kind of person he used to be, the things he'd done…they might just kill him but at least Allison would live. Closing his eyes tightly, he inhaled sharply, stiffening his spine, this was the right thing to do, for everyone who would suffer at his families' hands. "I'm done." what he didn't know…he had a feeling these wizards and witches would find out quicker than lightening.
"Hercules, please inform the Aurors that their presence is demanded," the president declared, another table rose from under the floor, it was significantly bigger than this table they were sat at. "Go home, get some rest, return at ten am tomorrow morning."
"You're not shutting us out," Sebastian declared, standing up, very unhappy about being sent away like errant pups while the planning went down. "I will not allow it!" pointing his clawed index finger on the table. Staring the president of MACUSA down despite the fact he knew he was vastly outpowered, these wizards were...wielding more power than he could conceive.
"Look around you, Mr. Hale," the president declared, waving his hand toward the Aurors, every single one of them were making their way into the room. Grim and professional, ready to do what must be done. To protect Wizardkind, and to protect the Mundane from whatever threat had led them to be called here and now.
"What about it?" Sebastian did look around; he quite frankly didn't see what all the fuss was about.
"My people won't be going home for the next few days, they won't be seeing their children, girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, wives, they will get a few seconds over a monitored Floo call to inform them that they aren't returning for an undetermined amount of time. Single parents will have to either bow out and sign secrecy contracts before they leave despite knowing nothing as of yet or find someone to take care of their children."
Sebastian paused, "Then why are we being allowed?" a tad bit suspicious.
"I'm affording you the courtesy of seeing your pack due to your…circumstances." The president stated firmly but softly, with just a small measure of sympathy in his tone. The shapeshifting werewolf had almost died just mere hours ago, he hadn't even had a chance to sleep on what had happened. Quite frankly, he wouldn't be surprised if the wizard wasn't suffering from a little bit of shock still regardless of their healing capabilities.
"Safeguarding the future for my children, my brother-in-law and nieces and nephew…is more important," Sebastian choked out, caught of guard by the sympathy. He didn't want to think on it, no, he couldn't otherwise he'd break down. That was just the one incident…he wasn't going to think further.
"You also need a chance to process all you've seen, heard, observed," the president continued with relentless determined softness. "Experienced."
"You won't be missing much; we'll be going through all the information gained tonight. Then gathering information on those places, which will take a considerable amount of time." Daisy, "Then getting background information on everyone mentioned tonight, including everyone Mr. Argent has written down."
"We'll not be doing any actual legwork until tomorrow at some time, even then, you won't be coming." The president informed them, "You're a civilian, regardless of your abilities." Which would remain true, he would definitely not budge on that.
"But Argent and Deaton are ours," Jasper asked, narrowing his eyes suspiciously. None of them were lying, they meant what they said, but so far none of them had sounded like they were lying. Either understood them and got around the truth…or they all had the ability to lie and remain calm. He knew Peter was able to lie with a great deal of focus, and deviousness.
"You may well deal out pack retribution for anyone involved in the attempted murder of your pack," the president decided slowly, wondering if it could come back and bite him in the ass.
Peter slowly smirked, before a chuckle left his lips, "Interesting," Harry had basically implied that it would go this way. They'd be more interested in dealing with the possible exposure and simultaneously taking down every single hunter they could and entirely eradicating the prejudice before it spilled out of control and exposed the magical world and the supernatural world. "Not that there are many left to deal with." almost wanting to pout, Stiles had given them too quick a death.
"Should have moved then," Stiles said innocently, it was difficult to remember how he'd felt his first kill especially in self-defence. Donovan he'd long ago gotten used to death, so much so that he didn't really feel anything remotely resembling guilt. Did that make something wrong with him? maybe, but he'd had to be that way to survive…it was going to be odd not having to that was for certain.
"Nothing will be done without us?" Peter questioned, staring them down, wondering about it all, Harry had remained quiet, his emotions were steady. Clearly, they weren't lying or hiding anything from them. He didn't like to think Harry would let that happen.
"No,"
"You do need sleep, your emotions will be affecting the young ones," Harry pointed out, knowing how best to get everyone leaving for the evening. He was beyond exhausted; he couldn't keep his eyes open for a moment longer. "I'd be surprised if they've gotten any sleep." Happy Alpha, happy pack, anxious Alpha, anxious pack as they usually say.
"I am tired," Stiles agreed, his eyes half-mast, he could sleep anywhere, any time at this age. He didn't want to end up sleeping here, he wanted to sleep with Derek wrapped around him…although, he wasn't sure if that was going to fly well with his father…but what he didn't know wouldn't hurt him.
"Then we should go, we've only got a few hours before we'll be back," Derek pointed out after glancing at his watch. Shocked to see how much time had passed. Part of him didn't think any time at all had passed since they came here, the rest felt like it had been so much longer. It was no surprise that Derek was catering to his mate immediately, without pause.
"Sir?" the senior Auror called out, waiting patiently for orders.
"Very well, Daisy will get a Portkey for…" the president didn't get to finish.
"It's fine, I'll Apparate us all," Harry said standing up.
"Do you have the reserves to do that? You look ready to collapse." The president confessed the truth, Harry did look wrecked.
"I'll be fine," Harry said firmly, but if he was honest, he wasn't entirely sure that was true.
Despite his reservations…he managed to get them all home safely, but it tripled his exhaustion and he almost fell asleep where he Apparated on the floor, the last thing he could really recall was someone grasping a hold of his arm, stopping him from falling entirely over.
A/N – Okay, so if I've made a mistake I apologise! 😊 I've only seen up to Scott became Alpha then I stopped watching it. I've read fanfiction yeah, but that's it I'm afraid, its not as easy to keep it straight when you're reading Fanfiction with everything being changed to suit the writer which is fine, I'm not saying it's wrong or annoying it is what it is and I'm not 100% on the story and it's order that far into it 😉 If I've gotten anything wrong please feel free to let me know so I can change it 😊 the timeline I use only goes up to Parrish breaking into Eichen house so anything after that I found difficulty finding. I had to use Stiles' profile on Wiki to get information and even that doesn't have a lot of information. Thanks to those who did help me by answering questions I had 😊 I appreciate it! and GAH I tried to have Derek or even Stiles whuup some ass (verbally) in this chapter but the story wasn't having any of it! I totally froze, I couldn't think of a single thing Derek would say mostly because I don't think I've ever heard Derek defend himself really…although if you've got any recommendations for stories where Derek does get defended or defends himself, let me know the title and author – don't send the link they don't show through properly at all 😊 I'm going to miss this story, it was always going to be a short one, maybe 30/40 chapters or thereabouts 😊 and so the next chapter they'll all meet up or would you prefer it just be a pack chapter? Then the shoring up for the attack in the next chapter?
