BNHA: Dual Fates
Chapter 37: Planned out.
A/N: Everyone! Long chapter ahead! This is part 1 of her fight so I'll have to make the 2nd part in another chapter. xD
I really hope you like this one! This one was about 14 pages worth in my writing program and 4.4k words. XDD
Sorry! XD I was excited and inspired to write this chapter haha!
Heavy footfalls made light thuds on the sidewalk, while a cloak swayed behind and over a scaly Crocodile tail. It seems that Wani found another cloak since this one was dark brown, with bits of back around its edges and flailed over his tail.
His shoulders swung from the fast pace that he walked and ignored the many stares in his direction. I thought I found their base at first. Shit, they're good at hiding it! A deep grumble, from his throat, only proved his annoyance that much more and frowned despite his natural grin.
The one building I checked out in the alleyway was deserted. Where the hell are they?! Rage lit up his yellow eyes as they pierced through the shade of his cloak and spoke in his mind. Something, deep inside of his fuming heart, brought up remnants of his past that he didn't care to remember.
With Haru missing and his frantic mind doing everything it can to think of places they could be hiding her, he couldn't think of anything else but.
~~~Flashback~~~
"Gigan! Where are you?!" Wani's angry voice hollered out as he jogged around a corner of a street. He looked a bit younger, shorter even but still reached past six feet and two inches. His long-sleeved, brown shirt that covered all of his muscles and both of his arms, hung over the lips of his baggy pants.
Thick soles in his shoes caused faint thuds during his trek, to echo. The scales on his skin, the faint shine it had, and his crocodile tail all stood out to everyone who watched him run by.
When he rounded the corner, his friend ran into his chest and a knife cut across his neck which made faint trickles of blood seep out. It was in that moment, before the knife cut when he unintentionally activated his quirk.
The same slice appeared on Gigan's neck, and, unlike Wani who has a thick hide, his friend's brown eyes widened. "GIGAN!" His rough, strong voice boomed in fear at the sight of his friend's blood loss. Crimson spewed from the cut over his artery, as he grasped the Crock's green shoulder and allowed tears to fall.
"W- Wa...ni. I-... Sorry... he-lp," There Gigan fell, with bits of blood staining the Crock's shirt after his plea for help and his apology. Those brown hues rolled up and a pool of red surrounded his neck, the tall reptile was too dumbfounded by the event that it didn't even register quick enough.
It all happened too fast, rounding the corner and getting sliced. He thought someone tried to stab him, so he ended up using his quirk until he realized it was his friend...
"GIGAAAAAN!" Pure devastation filled his slits at the sight of the new corpse and on his knees, he fell by his side with quivering hands. "What...? WHY DID YOU DO THIS?! WHO MADE YOU?! GIGAAAN!" He wanted answers, anything, a reason for his actions because he knew that Gigan wouldn't suddenly do that without a cause.
"Guys! He's over there!" In the distance, out of an abandoned building came running a horde of low-lives who carried blunt weapons and knives.
As they caught up to Wani's knelled form, the crowd surrounded the two and grinned madly at the fresh corpse. "Haha, looks like he killed himself! Dude, what a coward..." A gruff man with a beard shook his head and was about to lift Gigan's, until a sharp-clawed hand gripped his.
I can't let Tadami get away with kidnapping Haru! This is the same situation as that one day when I was just a fucking kid! Gigan, he thought I was one of those punks and that's why he cut me by accident! In his mind, he spoke and continued his memory past the point where all of the low-lives were dead.
Countless citizens surrounded his panting, large form which was caked in red and dripped from head to toe. Brutal, he was, as a thick arm remained tight in his grasp and its skin appeared torn as though it was ripped roughly from its elbow.
Limbs and severed heads were strewed everywhere, with gore that stained the entire area. He didn't even pay attention to the sirens wailing in the distance and the fingers from bystanders that pointed, followed by the screams that came with them.
A piercing glare, from his yellow slits, was so focused on thinking about Gigan's situation and the pure anger that riddled his body, that he hadn't even realized a hero came over. A hero attacked him with a strong kick, but was caught by their ankle and effortlessly chucked over him as if they were just garbage.
What caught his attention, was a swift movement in the darkness inside the abandoned building and only a glimpse of silver scales was put into a mental note of who he'd have to look for.
~~~End of flash back~~~
I can't let the league get away with kidnapping her, I can't let that snake get away with what he did! That bastard deserves my claws in his throat! His ever-growing rage was soon calmed for a brief moment when he saw a giant wall that stretched quite the distance and a thought came to his mind. "Heh, I hear final exams are happening right now. If Saito is in there with the others, then I'll just barge in and grab her a second," After he spoke to no one in particular, his neck rolled around to pop it and his clawed fingers rubbed where it cracked.
How should I do this though? That girl's gonna be surrounded by those hero jerks and they're gonna ambush my hide like ants to a sitting carcass. I'd have to wait for her to be done with the exam to do it... Damn, why can't this be easier?! Bust down the wall, march right in and grab her, then find a way to lure that asshole out from the shadows! He wants her dead, right? Then I can use that to my advantage... No harm done to the girl and I can get his sorry ass. A similar, sharp glare that he had from his trip through memory-lane, appeared once more and gazed upon the towering walls of the training grounds; when his ears picked up the com that announced Saito's team, a ghost of a smirk appeared over his natural Crock grin.
~~~Uviel~~~
Everyone finished watching the final battle, where Midoriya and Bakugo had to fight All Might. The two girls, Hatsume and Uviel, were both too busy putting their plans together.
They remained in their seats from last time and the pinky's excitement hadn't faltered once since Edgeshot left to prepare. "Saitooo!~ I know just the thing! We can use my device here!" Quickly, Mei stood, pointed to a device hooked to her hip, and grinned. As she watched the cybergirl blink confusedly, she couldn't help but continue.
"This device shoots out a very sticky substance that's super hard to get out of! If what you said about Edgeshot, is true, about his quirk then this will be perfect!" Her finger kept tapping at the device and saw how Uviel's eyes lit up with awe.
"Wow, that's... Actually pretty cool. I could use Kage to keep him distracted too and make him go into his giant form. I'll have to use the controller to make him move though, can he fight on his own?" Her question remained unanswered when the com announced the next team to come up, she and Mei were both called out.
Team Saito and Hatsume, please move to the clearing far from the artificial city. As if on cue, they both stood and Kage lowered himself to offer her a ride with a nudge to the back of her leg. "O- Oh, thanks Kage," Who would pass up a free ride on a robotic sphere? Uviel didn't waste any time hopping on and Hatsume grinned happily from knowing the girl was enjoying her invention.
"To answer your question- yes! He can fight all on his own, but it's recommended for you to control him instead since that's what he was built for! After all, I'll need your help spreading the sticky substance so he'll have to be on his own as he distracts him! So- if worst comes to worst and you can't help me, then I'm sure if you keep him distracted long enough I could spread it myself," As they neared the exit to enter the large artificial city, Uviel mumbled something that the pinky didn't catch.
"I wonder why it's recommended for me to control him, though," That last bit was left unheard and as soon as they entered, they turned left to trek to the vast clearing just outside the city.
Past the buildings, which took about five minutes, they soon came across a wide-open field that had fresh green grass and very few trees that couldn't possibly get in their way. "Okay, so- since he's a ninja, he's going to want to hide even in broad daylight. From my experience, fighting in Stargazers, stealthy players like that would usually hide not only in broad daylight but as close to their targets as possible so they can get a clear strike... Let's see," Uviel spoke with hushed, calculative words and surprisingly, Mei was really quiet.
From the side, she saw Hatsume holding a small device that had a slow pulsating light in the center that piqued her curiosity. As fast as possible, her pale hand yanked on the pinky and rushed her into a bush nearby, causing them both to crouch within the leaves. "Hatsume... What's that for?" her question, full of caution and confusion, met her partner's who kept her yellow eyes upon the pulsating light.
"It senses danger...! Security machines in buildings use these to detect hostility inside so it could notify the guards in it or the hero company. I thought it'd come in handy in this exam. The faster the light pulses, the closer Edgeshot is and when the light is solid red, that means he's on top of us...!" Astonishment filled Uviel's eyes upon hearing her explanation, and watched as the girl's bright smile let out quiet giggles. "Why are we hiding and whispering?" her quiet words only made Saito sigh, before replying.
"That's neat... well, to answer your question- A gamer knows when something's going to be a trap and when it's not. An open clearing like that is screaming ambush, despite it being meant for Kage's giant form. Plus, I'm sure Edgeshot already knows where we're at so he's probably hiding even as we speak and watching us from far away. That's probably why the light's slowly pulsating..." explained the redhead, who looked around through the bush for any sight of the ninja.
She wasn't aware of the awestruck pinky next to her, Mei was a bit amazed to know that gaming could teach a person stuff like that. "Keep an eye on the light, please, I'll keep an eye out for our ninja. I ordered Kage, about three minutes before we reached this clearing, to help me find a good hiding spot so I can use the controller on him," added the cybergirl as she continued to examine the clearing.
"Cool...! Okay, that's clever. That way he won't be able to find you and knock you out to get ride of Kage. Of course, Kage's protective mechanism I designed for him will activate once you're unconscious. So that was a good idea," Hatsume nodded and peeked down at the light, which seemed to be pulsating...a bit faster? "He's closer...!" whispered the girl and kept her attention on the light.
Tectonic, I have located a promising spot for you to hide. I shall enter the clearing for a swift distraction for your target so you may reach it. Here are the coordinates, they will appear in your vision's left corner. From Uviel's head, she heard his deep and joyful voice before watching a quick screen in her eyes to appear. It nearly made her panic if she hadn't been warned of the coordinates showing. It was like a mini-map on an online game, it was easy to figure out.
With a nod, a quick glance to Hatsume, allowed her to see the girl return the same gesture and see a thumbs-up rise. "Alright, Kage- go...!" her whispered voice full of haste, notified her pet robot to hover quickly into the open far out from where they sat. So, as fast as she could, the girl sprinted very close to the ground to try and stay hidden.
Fight brains with brains, it's the best way to do it. What he taught me was to strike when there's an opening and to know when your opponent is actually going to make their move. It's why I spent so damn long in front of that waterfall with him throwing rocks at me! It took me forever to get the hang of what he was teaching me! Her annoyed thoughts echoed while she followed the directions and ran around a tree's base.
Through Kage's eyes, he examined the surroundings and pulled out assault rifles from two slots on either side of him, just below his large eye.
"Recovery Girl, how's it going with them?" Ochaco, who was curious and concerned for Uviel, questioned as she came in dressed in her hero clothes. Right behind her were the other students as well, all curious about that giant robot and how he was going to be used against a pro hero like Edgeshot.
"They've barely started. Saito is using her wits, it seems... She knows a little bit of Edgeshot's quirk, which is why she is using her robot as a distraction. The girl plans on hiding somewhere and Hatsume's keeping track of their opponent," explained the old woman with her eyes glued to the screen.
"W- Wait, so... What was the real reason Hatsume became her partner? It couldn't be just to help her finish her exam, by testing that robot right?" This time it was Midoriya who decided to ask, curious about the true reason for the two being paired up. He had returned to the viewing room moments earlier after being healed and left Bakugo in his bed unconscious.
"There is a reason, yes, but..." Recovery girl trailed off and sighed before her frail fingers tapped against the desk. "It's probably not what you may think," her last words gave Iida the idea to question her next.
"Hatsume is from the Department of Support, but her experience in developing machines outweighs the other students who would've been more suited as her partner, right?" When his eyes viewed the old woman and watched her nod, he returned his gaze back to the redhead who hid inside a small crevice created by a rock and a tree.
"Yes. Because Saito is a danger to others around her, no thanks to someone taking control of her; Hatsume is a better choice. She has a method that could snap her back to reality and it would be enough to help us locate the hacker, or possibly get an idea of where they're at. It is also why the girl designed the robot to be resistant to hacks. Saito can only control him through a controller and see through his eyes with the chip she was given," explained the older woman before she leaned back slightly and kept her frown evident.
"What?! So, you're saying that this exam is also being used to watch for the hacker?! How would you know if she'll even be taken control of?! We can't see her from this far away and-" Sero panicked at the mention of the other use for the exam. However, with an abrupt stop in his words, he watched Recovery Girl glance at him over her shoulder before returning her attention to the screen.
"Edgeshot will notice, right away. This exam will put what he taught her, to the test, and bait the hacker into controlling her. Hatsume is the only person who can help bring her back to reality, before any real damage is done," finally, after the old woman spoke and all of the questions were answered, silence befell everyone.
That was until Kirishima stepped closer and opened his lips to speak. "If Edgeshot knows about it, then... I'm guessing Hatsume does too considering what you said," He didn't see the nod Recovery Girl gave him, his red hues were too focused on the cybergirl hiding in the crevice.
"Not only is this to lure out the hacker, to even make the slightest sign of his location, but- It's to test Saito's teamwork and strategies against someone who's much faster than them. She has to work with Hatsume, who's not much of a fighter, unlike Yukimura. Because of her teamwork with Yukimura in the sports festival, she's used to fighting together, but in this exam, she has to go at this alone and hope that Hatsume succeeds with using her devices. It's a small chance that they'll win against a speed hero like Edgeshot," Midoriya mumbled and placed his finger on his chin, to ponder.
"Uviel, good luck," quietly spoken, Eijiro worriedly gazed upon her hidden frame and watched her sit there for who knows how long.
~~
In the crevice, she sat, with her controller in her hand and the chip between her fingers being fiddled with. Further away from her, in the bushes, remained Hatsume who kept her eyes on the red light and nearly made her mouth gape when she saw it pulsating faster. So, quickly, in the bush, she found a pebble and flicked it as hard as she could to gain Kage's attention.
When the robot turned around, he saw the pinky raise the pulsating device and quickly notified Uviel of the ninja's closeness. Tectonic, your partner is showing me the pulsating light on her device. It has gotten faster, should I prepare? his question had reached across the land where Uviel sat and waited for her to speak.
"No, just stay there, I'll activate the chip...! I need you to transform, too!" As quiet as she could whisper yell, she answered and plugged the chip in. Her eyes suddenly began to reveal a brighter ring in them, which was the same as when the hacker took control of her a long while ago during the sports festival. Only, this time, she was in control and looking through Kage's one eye.
Very well, as you wish.~ replied the robot in his cheerful voice. During that moment, parts from his sphere began to pull apart and adjust themselves.
Hatsume had to cover her mouth to prevent any sound cheerful cries of her own baby getting bigger (LOL); higher and higher, he went. Metallic and mechanic sounds resonated throughout the field, as arms and legs grew into an impressive size.
Dark red glossed across his metal body, as a single, bright red, narrowed eye viewed some tops of artificial buildings. His head would barely reach past a three-story fake apartment structure if he were to stand next to one and heavy thuds echoed with each step he'd take.
Clenched red, shiny fists tightened when his head looked around for the ninja below him. Thanks to a button that was pressed on her controller, Uviel grinned and faced the space before her while she looked through his eye. The girl was trying out the directional buttons and getting used to the feel of his movement.
This is so friggin cool, it's like my own first-person shooter game, only it's real.~ An excited grin grew on her half-black lips and watched the view of Kage's surroundings turn as she made him move using the controller.
However, what caught her off guard was a swift stream of red in the air passing up their eyes and almost striking the robot's neck. Quickly, Uviel turned her robot to avoid the incoming strike and was thankful for Kage's agility...
For the cybergirl truly thought, she had lost him since she was too focused on getting the hang of her controls. A sigh left her lips and soon after, did a new determination make her eyes squint. I got this... her confidence grew the more she put her gaming skills to the test and it was as clear as day in her monologue.
Where Kage stood, a swift backhand to the incoming ninja shot him opposite of where the metal beast was and headed for a tree. This robot has quick reflexes. Kamihara noted in his mind and flipped just right to prevent a crash land, so he could soar after the robot once more using his drill form.
Back and forth, side to side, he did a series of strikes to try and get to Kage's mechanics. Saito is hiding somewhere, I know she is. I saw her leave from a bush and disappear. I'm assuming her robot is trying to keep me from getting any closer... What are they planning? His smooth and deep voice questioned, as he zipped all around the metallic beast to try and find his weakness.
Hatsume, while Edgeshot was distracted by the robot's relentless strikes and defense against his quirk skills, she ran. Out from the bush and far away, the pinky ran with a grin on her lips. Hahaha, this is going to work! I just know it! Her giggles escaped, just before a jet pack on her back made her fly across the land seconds after
What she thought was going to work, only ended up catching the ninja's attention in the end. For Edgeshot had spotted the girl soaring and quickly redirected his own flight towards her. A strict look in his only visible eye focused on her distant frame and watched as she grew closer, thanks to his sheer speed. If I knock her out, whatever plan they had, would suffer and I would win. concluded the red and blue hero, in his head.
It was pure luck on the girl's part when a strong, metal fist swung and thwacked him aside. Like a hand smacking a fly that came too close to a person's face, he was sent to the ground so fast that it was hard to see.
"Haha, yeah!" Uviel's fist pumped into the air and remained in the crevice she hid in; her cheers were luckily unheard. "Shit..." as swift as she could, her hand returned to the controller and her head lowered in hopes of not being seen. Her gamer side was showing and it revealed a piece of her that only Haru and Kirishima knew about.
Hatsume felt her hair stand up on their ends from their brief closeness and mentally thanked her partner for the save. Now that he was down for a couple of seconds, her hand touched the device on her hip and made her jet pack halt for a moment. Lower to the ground, she hovered and released a purple, sticky substance that blanketed a good portion of the ground.
Tectonic, from what I can see, Hatsume will need time to spread the substance for more effectiveness since you will be occupied. Perhaps you and I could fight together to keep him distracted long enough? He tried to attack her. Kage's voice reached Uviel's mind as she kept his one eye in Edgeshot's location.
"Yeah, sure. Sounds like a good idea. Two against one isn't very fair in PvP, but if it's to fight a villain and take them down then I'd have to do everything I can, huh?" Mumbled quietly in response, the girl unhooked the chip and turned her controller off. The devices were soon tucked into the pocket of her shorts before her retracted Decennial Staff, was pulled out from behind; her eyes returned to their normal selves just seconds later. "If you can- please, help me keep my blind spots protected. He isn't a pro hero for nothing..." the girl reminded her robot and pressed a button on her rocket boots.
There she soared, taking to the sky to catch up to Kage with amazing speed. If I remember right, I was once told that I was able to turn my hands into giant claws or something during the sports festival. Maybe that'll come in handy. For a brief moment, her eyes glanced at her free hand before returning to the metallic beast.
Across the land she flew, passing up her robot and extending her staff, which she held behind her by its center grip. Her shoulder cape fluttered harshly behind her and the collar hid most of the right side of her lower face, revealing her concentrated eye.
Just when she was about to twirl and swing her staff, something interrupted her. Tectonic! I sense an invasion in your cybernetics, abort your strike! Kage's panicked and cautious voice boomed in her head. It was for a flash of a second when Kage saw a sharp-toothed grin fade as fast as it appeared.
Uviel lifted her feet up, to slow her down to a stopping point and flipped so she could land on her feet. A heavy crash soon came, followed by a cloud of dirt that stirred, and made it difficult to see her.
Where Edgeshot stood, he was lucky that the dirt around him cleared after he landed moments ago. For he would've missed where she was and his chance of rendering her unconscious, but upon seeing the girl leaned over holding her head...
A foot forward, his wide eyes observed her as she knelled and laid her staff down. Hehehehehe! I think it's about time to test out your new martial skills! Let's see if we can kill this hero...~ A familiar voice, in her mind, echoed and made the girl's body quiver.
"N- No... N- Not, this...time...!" Her small, shaky hands clenched onto her scalp tightly and kept her eyes closed. "G- Guys! H- He-" Within an instant, after she whipped her head up to her idol hero and the others with eyes full of devastation, those very hues lost their emotion. Her outstretched hand fell and that same gleam in her eyes indicated that she was taken over.
Inside her mind, she found herself banging her fist on an invisible force, with screams of pleads and desperation. However, her outside...only showed those emotionless, robotic eyes and her body rising to her feet. Her attention, locked onto a certain ninja, showed who her target was.
Those eyes! The hacker took control of her, I'm assuming. Judging by what I was told before, the plan for this exam seems to be working and I'm the one, that the hacker is after. Kamihara, with caution and focus solely on her form, concluded with a calm demeanor.
