Book One: Chapter One
[Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How]
As if howling for escape, a wide portion of the thunder's roars are muffled by the clouds above. The eye of the seemingly enraged storm is the only exit for its continuous bellows. Hearing both the loud and soft rumbles, a pair of eyes begin to stir. The grainy texture touching skin becoming more noticeable with every micromovement of the body.
"Mmm…"
Color begins to fill the vision as from nothing to blurriness and finally it becomes crystal clear. The first thing a pair of red eyes take sight of is the purple vortex within the eye of the storm, purple lightning arc throughout the area.
"What the…'' The eyes blink in repetition. "Where…" A male's voice murmurs for his eyes to widen. "Qiqi!" Rolling to a kneeling stance, his eyes scan the surrounding area, a shoreline surrounded by sharp cliffs. "Qiqi!" He cups his hands. "QIQI, WHERE ARE YOU?!" Panting, he looks around taking sight of the bay leading to the ocean. "Where am I…?"
Walking into the water to stop at his ankles, he gazes at his appearance. A combination of red and black clothing ripped, his right sleeve and pant leg torn and burnt at the seams. His black hair ending down his back resembling a sort of mane all scruffy.
What happened to us…? Screw thinking, I need to find Qiqi! Think on the way, Relon!
Turning to run, he foot gets caught by something causing the young man to trip planting his face into the sand.
"Oof!" Lifting his sandy face, Relon shakes it off to look over his shoulder. "Now wha- what the?" Turning around, Relon's face scrunches in confusion at the odd weapon. A long purple polearm with a star-shaped lightning symbol. Reaching for it, an arc of electricity sparks between the two for Relon to pull back on reflex.
Questioning the odd occurrence, the sounds of rumbling thunder brings him back to his current predicament. Gazing at the weapon, he reaches out grasping it firmly for a memory to resurface.
"From this point forward, you shall be my chosen."
Blinking back to reality, a small shock goes through his spine.
"Was that… a memory…?" Gazing at his new weapon, no answers come.
Standing to his feet once more, the rumbling thunder gains his attention once more. Surveying his surroundings once more, he finds no signs of Qiqi. Only the cliffs, shore, and odd looking cubic gravel in the shape of… puzzles?
"How did I get here?!" Relon mutters to take a single step, a bolt of lightning striking a cliff. "Seriously, how'd I get here and where the hell is my sister?!" He growls taking off at a sprint, with every step a random strike of electricity nearby.
"Qiqi!" He shouts, his mind going into thought as he continues his calls.
Okay, time to think. Who am I? Relon Lucinance. Good. Age? 17; the same as my favorite number. Nice! Any family? None outside of my younger sister Qiqi. Both our parents were murdered. It's the cause for Qiqi's droopy attitude. Okay, I got that. Got a home? Yeah, it's… it's… shit. Okay, Relon, can't remember where you live. That's fine. What about how you got here? … Nothing. Friends? Pfft, yeah right. Fat no considering I never had any. Besides, all my time went into tending...
"Qiqi!" Another shout, Relon now at the edge of one of the sharp peaks.
What was I doing before I got here? Come on, brain, work with me! At the thought, another jolt of lightning strikes mere feet from Relon, the sudden element causing Relon to jump. Stepping away, a portion of the cliff gives way, sending Relon down its side tumbling like a barrel
"Gotta… slow down…!" Remembering his grip on the polearm, Relon's body for a split second faces forward as in that moment, he jams the blade in the cliff stopping his rotation as his momentum slows until he reaches the bottom.
Once the sensation of the grainy ground comes to his feet, he releases a held breath as his legs give out sending him to his knees.
"That… was too close!" He pants to look up. "And I'm right back to square one. And still no Qiqi."
Turning around to retrieve his weapon, he widens at the descending indentation from the high cliff to the bottom.
Did I really push it in that deep?
Grabbing it, Relon's gaze shifts to an opposing island.
I checked every nook and cranny on this island and found no trace of Qiqi anywhere. Not even a footprint aside from my own. If she isn't here, then I'll just have to keep looking elsewhere.
Reaching the outer shore, Relon takes a clear sight of the island so close yet so far. The only gap between the land being the water itself. Glancing at the questionable-alive island, its activeness oddly settled, Relon turns back to dip a finger into the water for nothing to happen. Taking a deep breath calming himself, he prepares to jump.
"There!" Hearing another human's voice, Relon snaps to the sight of a small boat.
At the helm, a man pointing at Relon.
"Finally! Hey!" Relon waves over to take sight of a second boat. "Finally, some luck!" He smiles for it to falter in an instant as more men come from within the boat to point arrows at him.
"Halt! Don't move!" A soldier orders, Relon taking a step back in fear.
Panicking, his eyes glance to the polearm. Dropping it, Relon raises his hands defensively.
"I'm not harmful! I need help!" Relon shouts back.
"You can not fool us! You're with the enemy!"
"What are you talking about?! I'm being serious! I'm lost, have no memory, and am looking for my sister! She's eight!" Relon argues back, the first ship docking for the men to jump off cautiously approaching the teen.
"Your lies won't work!" Another man shouts. "You dare lie and disrespect us Cryos?! You'll pay dearly!"
"What the hell are you talking about?!"
"Do you seriously believe you can take us without that weapon?! It's as clear as the blue sky you're with Inazuma! In other words; an Electro!" They inch closer as Relon steps back, another strike of nearby lightning.
"I'm not lying! I don't know what's going on!"
"Save it! You can talk all you want once we capture you or you can die here! Your choice!" Another soldier proclaims pointing a spear at Relon.
"Cryo? Inazuma? Electro? What are you all on about?!"
"Enough! We're wasting time! If you do not surrender, we won't hesitate!"
Trembling in fear, Relon grips his wrist. Looking around frantically, he finds nothing of usefulness.
If I turn and run, they'll shoot me down! I don't know how to fight! What do I do?!
"Last chance, kid!" Another step forward, the rumbling of thunder returning.
"S-Stay away from me! Leave me alone!"
"That's it! Take him down!" With that order, the archers fire.
In that moment, time seems to slow as Relon step back. The memories shared with his family, the loss of his parents, the raising of his sister; all of it comes rushing back.
I can't die…! Not yet! Qiqi needs me! Closing his eyes, Relon looks away raising his arms for protection.
The thunder roars in anger, greater than anything as from the eye of the storm, a purple bolt strikes the men. Their arrows and boat turning to dust. Hearing the sound of multiple thuds, Relon slowly opens his eyes questioning the zero pain felt to widen in horror. The very men about to kill him lay in the sandy shore motionless and singed.
"Wha… What…?" Relon pants, the sight of the dead soldiers causes his stomach to churn in disgust.
Swallowing his disgust, Relon cautiously approaches the men. Crouching down, he extends a hand to flinch at the heat off of the soldier. Quickly rolling hin over, a yelp escapes the teen as he falls back. The look of death evident in the man's pupils rolled back. Looking around, Relon finds all the others the same.
"Th-They're… No, no, no, no, no! What the hell is going on?!" Relon shouts, his form trembling more profusely.
Just then, the voices of others gain his attention as the forgotten second boat docks on shore. More men jumping off to take aim at Relon.
"How dare you?!" One shouts.
"I didn't…"
"I'll kill you just as you killed our brothers!"
"Wait…"
"Let's go before he strikes once more!"
"Please listen to me!"
"HALT!" A voice booms silencing all, Relon's mouth agape catching his breath.
All the men look behind themselves before opening a path through.
Waltzing through them, Relon's eyes gaze over the approaching figure. An elegant woman with pale skin and purple-yellow eyes. She has light blue hair that is longer on the left side of her face and bangs reaching her eyebrows. Above her bangs, she wears what appears to be a black leotard with the center of her naval upwards through her cleavage translucent leaving little to the imagination. She also wears a black headband and a hairpin to her left.
"Who are-"
"I'll be asking the questions." She interrupts gazing upon her fallen soldiers for a large sword to materialize out of thin air raising it overhead.
"Wait! Listen to me! I didn't do this!" He pleads, the woman bringing it down as Relon flinches awaiting the inevitable.
A second passes and for the second time already, he slowly opens his eyes to see the large blade pointing at him.
"Pick up your weapon. I refuse to fight someone defenseless." She orders. "Unlike those unchivalrous, I prefer a fair fight. Win and I'll here you out. Lose, and you'll be given a fate worse than death. None of you are to interfere."
"But Lady Eula!"
"Do I make myself clear...?" She questions, her eyes searching for a fool willing to defy her orders for all the men to bow stepping back.
"Fight…? Me? Wait, please listen! I-"
"Pick up your weapon!" She demands, a strike of lightning reinforcing her overwhelming presence. "I shall not repeat myself again." She takes on a stance.
Quivering at the situation, Relon's eyes look to the polearm behind him. Looking back to Eula, he slowly backs away to kneel down picking it up. Attempting to grip it firmly, he points it at the swordswoman.
"Quite a skill able to control lightning itself. That or the Raiden Shogun blessed you."
"The Raiden Shogun...? No, scratch that. Please listen! I don't want to fight let alone know how! I'm just as confused about how I got here! I'm just looking for my sister!"
"Oh, is that so? Then it would be a shame for what freedom you have to be stripped." She notes taking sight of his still convulsing form. "Here I come!" She announces to take a quick step forward swinging her large sword diagonally overhead.
Seeing the nearing blade, Relon jumps back. The moment his feet leave the ground, he widens at the trap he's fallen into. Continuing her slash, the momentum causes Eula to propel forward as with a spin, she jams the hilt of her sword deep into Relon's gut sending him away crashing into the sand gasping for air.
Releasing a hum in thought, Eula kicks the tip of her sword over to land in her hand before it disappears in a small flash.
"Capture him. We're heading back."
"Yes ma'am!"
Unable to put up any resistance, Relon can only watch as he's carried and tossed onto the floorboard as they depart. Barely retaining consciousness, his blurred vision barely makes out the island. The eye of the storm the only thing able to made out.
My strength's… weakening…
"Qi...qi…" He murmurs his final words before darkness takes over.
Looking at the unconscious teen, Eula with her arms crossed looks towards another portion of passing land with noticeable homes.
"It won't be long now, Inazuma..."
