Hi lovely readers!
Thank you all so much for all of the lovely review on the last chapter. It means so much that you all loved it.
I can't quite believe that this is 70th prompt I have written! How on earth has that happened! I cannot thank you all enough, this is crazy! I love writing and adore Sheldon and Amy and this little family life I've been able to create, the fact that you all enjoy it too and are continuing to request more, is amazing! I appreciate it so much and feel super grateful! Thank you so much!
This prompt was requested by a guest. Thank you so much for requesting this prompt, it was so nice to write Arthur being the little star of the prompt. I hope this is okay and what you were after.
Enjoy reading!
Even with her eyes closed, Amy knew the sun was peeking through the blinds in their bedroom, she could almost see the colours, the yellows and oranges merging into one. All around her felt calm and surprisingly peaceful, adjectives that right now with two young children she would never use to describe her home.
Rolling over slowly in bed, her hand reached out and she soon found her love who seemed to already be awake and sitting up in bed. Resting her hand on his chest, she cuddled close to him, once upon a time, Sheldon would have hated this but over time he had grown accustomed to Amy's ways and at times her need for physical touch, it was a compromise he had to make. Smiling to herself, Amy loved how she was instinctively able to find him, a simple force of habit after years of practise.
She would never get tired of the comfort he brought her, how safe and loved he made her feel. When they first met, she didn't think it was possible, didn't think that he possessed such qualities but he just needed time and Amy was thankful everyday that she had the paitence to give him that because what she had right now was worth every second of waiting.
Opening her eyes, she took in her surrounding. Sheldon awake, simply enjoying the peace and quiet of their home. It really was calm and Amy almost didn't dare to speak out of fear of ruining it.
"I can't believe they're still asleep" she kept her voice at a whisper, even with the children in their own rooms down the hall, she was conscious of making a sound. She momentarily uncurled herself from Sheldon to glance at the clock on his bedside table; 8am. Hardly late but a far cry from the 5.30am starts she was used to. Their children were morning people, early risers, she blamed Sheldon for that. She was sure that somehow their children have developed that trait from him. However, this, this right now was pure bliss.
"I know. I can't remember the last time it was so quiet"
She contemplated the fact that silence wasn't always a good thing and that it could also mean the two Cooper children were up to no good but that would also mean that Arthur would have to be out of his crib, a task which Emily could not do.
"It's so nice" she mumbled contently and cuddled even closer to Sheldon even though it wasn't all that possible. "We should do something today. It looks nice out." Amy was well aware that time was flying by, Emily was approaching six and Arthur had just had his first birthday, although still young she was aware that her children were growing up far too quickly and despite it sounding rather cliche, that these young years were so precious. She wanted to treasure every second and placed a great emphasis on doing things as a family.
"I was planning on finishing up some work" Sheldon replied. All he seemed to do at the moment was work, it had been the subject of quite a few disagreements recently. Of course, Amy understood the importance of his job, hers was important too but sometimes something had to give.
"Oh come on, it's the weekend" Amy reasoned. "Let's have some family time, it's been ages."
"What did you have in mind?" he could never say no to her and deep down he knew she was right, he couldn't remember the last time they had done something together just the four of them.
"I don't know" Sheldon felt her shrug against him. "It looks nice out, we could go for a picnic" she tested the water, knowing that Sheldon wasn't a huge fan of eating outdoors.
"That sounds nice"
"Really?" she looked up at him, surprised to see that he was smiling down at her. "I thought you hated picnics"
"Well they're not my favourite but I know Emily loves them" their little girl really did love anything outdoors, whether it be eating, playing, exploring or just simply being outside she was an outdoorsy kind of girl. Neither Amy or Sheldon knew where she got that from, aside from the striking resemblance to her father in many ways it was hard to believe she was theirs.
"She's got you wrapped around her little finger" Amy laughed as Sheldon just unapologetically shrugged. It really wasn't all that long ago when Sheldon would have never even imagined that his heart would be completely captured by his six year old daughter and year old son but that was exactly his reality and the thing that scared him the most was that he wouldn't have had it any other way.

Amy would never forget the feeling of how exciting it was to experience important milestones with her children. Emily had been a talker first, learning to babble and say a few words just shy of her first birthday. She had always been and was still her parents little chatterbox.
Arthur was different and at thirteen months he wasn't a talker or a walker just yet. Now, of course he had managed to babble his way through mama and dada but in terms of fully forming his words, for him it just hadn't happened yet. She wondered if he hadn't spoken yet because at times, it was almost impossible to get a word in edgewise between his sister and father. However, the first steps were almost imminent, all the signs were there and her mothers intuition was telling her so.
He had been crawling for a while and had now just started pulling himself up using furniture. When he felt brave enough, he would let go for a beat of time before wobbling a little and falling back to the floor. At times, he seemed nervous and a little apprehensive to give things ago, after the first little wobble it took quite a bit of coaxing from Amy to encourage him to do it again.
"Mumma, can I have another sandwich?" Emily asked from where she was sitting on the picnic blanket, she was already shuffling across to the wicker basket and peaking inside before Amy responded.
"Sure. Eat up" Amy nodded with a smile, "I think I packed far too much anyway" once it had been decided and agreed that a picnic would be how they spent their day, Amy set to work on making sandwiches, cutting up fruit and vegetables and selecting the right juices and snacks for them all. Like with everything she did, she wanted this day to be perfect. And it really was.
The weather was beautiful, the sunshine was beating down on them and yet there was a cool breeze that made the temperature bare-able. The children had been so well behaved and had laughed so much. Amy would never get bored of hearing their laughter, it was her life's purpose now to make them happy and hearing them laugh was like music to her ears. She had sat back, her heart melting as Sheldon and Emily played bat and ball, she was sure their daughter was the only human being on the planet that could force her husband into anything remotely sporty. She had played with Arthur, taking out the building blocks she had packed and watched the sheer fascination and wonder on his face as he built a tower. When everyone grew tired and a little hungry, they finally settled down for their food.
"I think when I grow up I'm going to have picnic all the time" Emily smiled as she brought the sandwich up to her lips and took a huge bite. "Can I play after?" she asked through her mouth full of food.
"In a little while" Amy answered, although her attention was slightly distracted by Sheldon who was struggling to eat and juggle a very fidgety Arthur who was sitting in his lap. "Let everybody eat first" she turned her gaze to Sheldon. "Are you okay?"
"He won't keep still" he said with half a laugh. Amy watched as their little boy grasped at his fathers shirt in a desperate attempt to pull himself up, his little legs kicking excitedly as his arms worked hard to pull up his weight.
"Oh come here" Amy laughed reaching across and lifting Arthur off of Sheldon and placing him in front of her. "Are you excited? Do you want to play with your sister too?" she squealed excitedly as Emily moved closer to them. Arthur was standing now, Amy was knelt in front of him holding on to his hands, supporting him as he wobbled.
"I think he's trying to walk" Sheldon commented. He had remembered Emily starting out just like this. A little shaky at first but then suddenly a burst of confidence had taken them all by surprise and then within a blink of an eye she was off. He would never forget that moment, just a lazy Sunday morning back in their old apartment, with Amy and Sheldon positioned at different ends of the living room, she had toddled across unsteadily into his arms. He couldn't recall a time where he had felt so much pride for their little creation.
"I think he's been trying for a while" Amy never once removed her eyes from her little boy, not wanting to miss a single second of what he was doing. Sheldon could see the love in her eyes and in that moment felt luckier than ever that he could call her his wife and the mother of his children. She was truly special.
"Why don't we make some space" Sheldon offered and with little Emilys help the two of them set to work on moving the picnic basket, plastic plates and juice cartons out of the way. "I really think he's going to do it" Sheldon smiled. He had been so busy with work recently that he hadn't quite realised he could have missed moments like this, now that he was present he wanted to witness such a thing so much.
Arthur was still excitedly kicking his legs, lifting his feet off the ground whilst securely holding on to his mothers hands. She knew he was ready, she could feel it.
"Em, why don't you go and sit over there?" Amy gestured to the short distance in front of her. "I'm going to let go of his hands in a minute, see if he'll walk to you" Arthur adored his big sister, their relationship really couldn't have been more special. Growing up all Amy wished for was a sibling, she wanted someone that no matter what she had that close bond with and unconditional love. When she gave birth to Emily she knew that one day she wanted to give her a sibling of her own and when Arthur finally came along, watching their bond and the love they had for one another was just the best thing in the world.
"Okay" Emily nodded, feeling very grown up that she had been given such an important job. "If he falls I'll catch him" she held her arms out ready for him.
"Shall we walk to your big sister?" Amy asked, slowly letting go of Arthur's hands. He stood unsteady for a little while, Amy was sure he hadn't remained standing this long before, all she could do was watch in complete awe.
"Come on Arthur" Emily cheered him on, waving her hands at him. It felt like everything else happened in slow motion, he slowly lifted up his little feet and took three slightly shaky but completely unaided steps before collapsing into his sisters arms. "Mumma, dad, did you see that! He did it!" Emily was bursting with excitement, Amy was crying and Sheldon's jaw dropped.
On the most perfect family day with everyone present, their little boy had taken his very first steps and Amy and Sheldon could not have been prouder.
