Busying herself Rin found the long days more enjoyable helping out the villagers as she once did, assisting Kaede with chores, and being with her friends.
By the time she realized how long they had been gone it was already mid summer. Looking down at her large stomach she wondered how much longer they should stay until she wasn't able to travel.
Taking a breath she adjusted Hotaru on her back and took the basket she used for gathering. Kagome and Sango met her with the elder woman's daughters and infant son as well.
Going in to the surrounding wooded area around the village Kagome seemed down.
"Is everything alright Kagome?" Rin asked.
"Yeah it's just…I had really hoped I would be pregnant by now but I'm not. It just isn't happening for us." Furrowing her brow they all stopped. "What if my spiritual energy is too strong and I'm not able to have a baby with Inuyasha?"
"Have you spoken with Kaede about it?" Sango questioned receiving a small head shake. "Maybe there's something she could do to help."
"Maybe." Kagome said softly chewing on her bottom lip.
"Sango is right. It may just be a matter of timing or something you need to add to your diet." Rin suggested. "How long have you both been trying?"
"Since we came back from your place Rin. We decided that it was time to start our own family, seeing yours."
"That was already some time ago." Rin said.
"I've done everything I can think of, that's why I'm worried that I can't have any with him." Kagome sighed out. "I mean, if it's just Inuyasha and I then fine but we want to be parents."
"We will talk with Kaede after and see what she has to say." Rin replied in a soothing tone. Kagome nodded and gave a small smile.
The three continued on talking and taking turns tending to the children as they needed attention. Rin was glad she had gone back to her childhood home and was able to connect with her friends more as an adult.
Hotaru began to whine more and they decided to head back to the village. Passing by the rice paddies she stood on the small wooden bridge that over looked them and breathed in the familiar scents.
"This is where I lived for many years Hotaru, it is where I grew up." She said glancing back at her daughter. "I want you to know this place and be able to call it your home just as much as where mama Izu and papa Kohaku live with us. You have pack here too, your aunts and uncles…your grandmother, they will all take care of you if need be."
"Rin, are you coming?" Kagome called out as she and Sango had stood waiting for her.
"Yes." She answered with a smile walking over to them. Once in Kaedes hut to offer Kagome support Rin and Sango took their infants out of their carriers setting to make them comfortable.
Rin agreed to help by procuring the right herbs that may assist in boosting Kagomes fertility as they weren't commonly used.
"I can write to Jinenji and send Jaken to retrieve it. He already helped me once. I will send Jaken with something for him for that and thank him for it." Rin thought aloud.
"Thank you Rin." Kagome said gratefully. "Hopefully you'll stick around long enough and I can give you the good news in person."
"It's already late in the season and I'm worried if I wait too long then I will not be able to journey back home." Rin replied not wanting to hurt her friends feelings.
"You are showing much more than you were when you arrived." Sango said. "With the girls I could barely move by the end."
"That's what I'm worried about." Rin said.
"If ye wish to return to your household Rin then there is no shame in that." Kaede said. "Do not let us keep you from your responsibilities."
"Maybe just a little bit longer here." She said softly.
"Then ye know ye are more than welcome to stay."
"Thank you Lady Kaede." Rin said with a happy smile.
