Prologue: Nobody Will Do It For You

If you were to ask him directly, he would tell you that he hated being in prisons in any form. They were such pointless and filthy human constructs that just made him question why the sweathogs were ever allowed to run places like these in the first place. He shuddered when he heard stories of the mythical prison of Tartarus from a bygone era, if this place was disgusting for the people that it held, he could only imagine the filth that pervaded that dreadful place.

Kyte Niijima was very much unhappy to be here as he walked down the halls, carefully avoiding a lot of the less than pleasant areas, and making little to no eye contact with the sweathog that had been assigned to escort him to where he could meet the only damn human that mattered in this place.

"Take a seat there, Niijima-san. My associates will escort him to you very shortly." The sweathog said to him as Kyte took his seat and was swiftly left alone by his escort in front of a rudimentary and run-down division that looked like it had been ripped straight from a movie set. The corners of his lips curling up into a sneer as he heard the escort mutter "Freaks," under his breath as he left him alone.

Truly, there was no place for common decency in the world nowadays. Only further proven by how much of an injustice it was that he was meeting who he was today. It was part of the reason Kyte had set up this damn foundation in the first place, and still livestock and sweathogs decided that they were just going to make extra work for him and that just fantastic. He enjoyed seeing everything he had spent doing in his life up until now blown up by the ignorant masses.

It was only by the sounds of slamming doors and clinking shackles on the cold iron floor that Kyte snapped out of his self-induced rant to spy upon the reason he was here.

It would be a cold day in hell whenever he didn't get chills, in spite of his nature, once he laid eyes upon one of fate's many victims.

Rags that could barely be considered clothes that at one point was probably an orange jumpsuit covered nothing on the clearly frozen teen's body. Lengthy, stringy, ragged, dirty black hair hanged around the teen's face, the poor boy probably hadn't had any form of physical care for months and it made Kyte wish that his Quirk hadn't given them all those enhanced senses because it was taking all his willpower to vomit up his lunch. The boy was borderline chalk white, as if he hadn't seen the sun a day in his life, something that Kyte knew all too much about. What struck him, though, was the presence of another set of features. A long, fluffy black tail was slowly swishing back and forth behind the teen, half curled in fear and half out in hope. Additionally, the presence of two black triangles at the top of his head, twitching and turning at every little sound they picked up, made Kyte all the more disgusted by the fact this child was being kept here.

Staring into those innocently hopeful yet frightened bright gold eyes, Kyte spoke, maintaining an even cadence "Hello there, Nakamura-kun. You need not be alarmed; I am not one of them. I am here to assist you. You do not deserve to be here."

"T-T-That's what they said last time! A-a-and, I-I-I do! I did a very bad thing! That's why I'm here!" The whisper quiet, terrified voice of "Nakamura-kun" replied to Kyte, flinching the second that the elder male frowned and intensified his gaze with those soul sucking red eyes of his.

Kyte scoffed, it was so like humans to gaslight their own kind and treat them like they were little more than dolls they could dress up and mess about with. "No. You did nothing wrong, and you have done nothing wrong. Don't start ascribing value to things you don't understand. However, allow me to introduce myself first. My name is Kyte Niijima, and I am here to offer you the chance for your salvation. Kagekatsu Nakamura."

If he could take a step back, Kagekatsu would've. There was something off about this man, and it wasn't just because of how he spoke as if he had followed him his whole life. He had already shrunk once under those blood red eyes, and the man was somehow even paler than him. He had a crop of very neatly combed and maintained blue hair, but that seemed to be the only thing that didn't set off alarm bells as his eyes immediately darted to see Kyte's ears were pointed, and he was certain that they weren't the only thing that was pointed. He could swear that he saw a pair of fangs, not regular incisors, that poked through the blue haired man's lips as he spoke. His black overcoat prevented Kagekatsu from spying his outfit, but he didn't he need that to know what he was sitting across from.

"V-V-Vampire…" He said, voice as quite and terrified as ever, as he secretly tried to find any way he could out of those chains.

"And you're a Kitsune. Your point is?" Kyte replied dismissively, he had been through his conversation thousands of times and he suspected he would have to go through it about ten thousand more times if his dreams were to become reality "If you are frightened, don't be. I don't drink human blood. The taste is ghastly. I once drunk from someone whom I trusted very much and it was like I had swallowed a mouthful of dirt and washed it down with worms, I'm never drinking from another human again." He spat out, already the awful taste of that foul blood coming back onto his tongue. He really didn't need two reasons to throw up, thank you very much God.

Kagekatsu said nothing, only huddling further into himself as his tail curled in further and his eyes darted from side to side. "Wh-what are you doing here, Mr Va-vampire?" He asked, voice cracking and breaking in fear the whole time.

Seeing this as his moment to finally get through, Kyte slid a card underneath the cheap plastic barrier. "It's very simple, Nakamura-kun, I am the founder of a place known as the Broken Heart Foundation, based right here in Japan. We have taken it upon ourselves to protect those who have had everything taken away from them through no fault of their own. If they were betrayed by a loved one, if they had a Quirk, like mine, that would land them as a dangerous induvial and a future villain, if they were tossed out on the street with nowhere to go, and finally, if they were framed for a crime they didn't commit."

Kagekatsu's hand shook as he took hold of the card. It was poorly cobbled together with terribly scratchy handwriting and even worse art as a black heart, the black haired teen assumed it must've been one, it was hard to tell really, with streaks of white blood(?) pouring out of it was lazily stencilled in at the corner. If he wasn't so scared of his opposite number he would've have been wetting himself laughing.

"We are the ones who put the pieces of a broken person back together." Kyte droned, eyes unflinching as he folded his arms under his chin "And we take ourselves very seriously, Nakamura-kun. You see, I very fundamentally believe that no one is going to fix something for you. I exist where I am because I took the opportunity when it presented itself. I didn't let the sweathogs dictate when I could do something, and what I could say. Neither should you. The Foundation can help you with that."

The fox boy flinched internally. One too many a time had he been bought in by the promises of someone "helping" him or "fixing" something for him. It made him almost irrationally angry to hear those words. But not anger at the person, anger at himself for falling for such a stupid scheme in the first place. He was stupid for believing in any one to begin with. He was stupid for thinking those assholes had his best interests at heart. Stupid to believe all that Inner Circle crap. Stupid to believe that anyone cared about him. Stupid.

…Stupid.

Stupid.

Stupid!

STUPID!

"Nakamura-kun." Kyte spoke, voice as even and neutral as ever, even if now he was making a decent effort to cover his nose. "I would rather that you didn't end up causing yourself to bleed out because you threw a hissy fit. One, it's not a good look on my Foundation. Two, more importantly, you're going to make me throw up, so please stop."

Oh.

Kagekatsu stopped.

His nails, sharp and painted black, were dug into the side of his head.

Only now did he realise that he was bleeding because of it.

Oh.

This was not opportune.

It made him seem like the psycho everyone had spent so much time building him up to be. No wonder all the guards around him thought he was freak.

Because he fucking was.

"Nakamura-kun." Kyte repeated. "You have two options here, yet I will not pressure you to take either one. You can either stay here and be here forever, because we both know you're not getting out of here. Not with a Quirk like yours and a fabricated story like the one that landed you here in the first place. Alternately, you can join my Foundation. There's a new batch of people that would very much be happy to meet you. You can finally start to pick up the pieces of your shattered heart as well."

Removing one of his white gloves, Kagekatsu gulped when saw how sharp Kyte's nails were in comparison to his. However, one particular mark caught his attention. It looked very much like a birthmark that was quite topically in the shape of heart, albeit only one half of it. "Kagekatsu-kun, if you do decide to come with us, if you take my offer, if you decide to start the road to your salvation, you have my word as the Loyal Heart of the Broken Heart Foundation that no one will ever betray you again."

Kagekatsu's eyes steeled. "Are you telling me the truth?" He may have been terrified to his core of the vampire Quirk User across from him, but if there was one thing that Kagekatsu Nakamura valued above all else, it was trust, and if this guy was only going to betray it, then he would put them in a world of hurt.

Kyte smirked, the first time his neutral expression had changed officially "You have it on my word, Kagekatsu-kun, us vampires hate liars. It is the sweathogs, the livestock that have to chance their faces to meet with different people. I have one face, and one face alone, I will never betray anyone if I can help it. So, what's your answer, Kagekatsu Nakamura?"

The black-haired teen thought for a moment, his brow furrowed and his tail swishing behind him rapidly, before he started back up at Kyte. "You're on." He declared, passing the card back to its owner.

"Wise choice." Kyte said, smirk never leaving his face as he ran one of his long, bony fingers across the top of the card.

"Welcome to the Broken Heart Foundation."

A/N: Welcome, welcome, to the Broken Heart Foundation SYOC! I finally got around to making the SYOC that's been in the back of my mind for nearly a year now, I just never had the confidence to do it before, but now I'm finally going to have a go at it and I hope I can do a good job of it. To those of you who may already know me for what I write in the Yugioh Arc-v fandom, don't worry, I'm not quitting that story, this will just be going on in tandem.

Anyway, I want to set out some boundaries. 1) There will be 12 OC slots for the main Foundation kids, and I may accept teachers and villains later, we will have to see. Submissions are open until this time next month. 2) This is generally no holds barred when it comes OCs, but please don't send me a Mary sue unless you want me to tear you a new one. 3) I am not going to accept Little Miss/Mr Perfect background as well. This story is about people who have had everything stripped away from them through no fault of their own. Unless you can tell me why they can be here, they're not getting anywhere. No one comes to the Foundation because they want to be at the Foundation. 4) Send me the submissions as "Broken Heart Foundation [Name, Quirk] It's easy for me to organise them. Also, rule of thumb, if you're not pushing 2 PMs at least, I'm going to reject you. One simply isn't enough for this story.

Anyway, the form is below here and will be on my profile the second this story goes up, so I'll see you all again when I've made my decision.

Notice: Since it wasn't clear, Kyte and Kagekatsu's appearances and the like are not mythical, they're just Quirks.

Fundamentals

Name: (Surname, first name. Unless the character is of a different nationality)

Nicknames/Aliases: (If they were given a nickname, pejorative or not, write it down. If they had an alias before the Foundation took them in)

Gender: (Anything goes)

Sexuality: (I can do whatever, I'm gay myself after all.)

Hero Name: (Kyte wants people to take control of their own lives. To that end, he implores them to become heroes)

Age: (The Foundation cares mainly for teens and young adults but I can give some leeway so long as they're not incredibly young or a 45 year old in a group of minors)

Birthday: (Who knows? Kyte or one of the teachers might feel a bit generous and allow a party to be thrown)

Nationality: (The story is set in Japan, and Kyte can't really travel long distances on account of him pretty much being unable to see the sun. However, I can accept different nationalities so long as they have a reasonable basis for being in the Foundation)

Height and weight: (Realistic for age and nationality please.)

Voice: (How does your character speak? I'm not going to ask for VA's because I've got no clue about 95% of them so just give me a rough description of the voice and we'll be good.)

Appearance

Hairstyle: (Do I even need to explain this?)

Eye Shape and Colour: (You know it. Anything within here with reason)

Skin Tone: (Open to whatever you damn well please. Especially if the Quirk effects it)

Body Type: (Lean, average, stocky. How muscular are they? Are they a twig? Or are they like if Brock Lesnar and a professional body builder had a lovechild? Any thing about the body that isn't mentioned in the section below goes here)

Markings: (Birthmarks, scars, burns, anything on their body that's out of line and is forever. For example, Kyte's Birthmark on his hand)

Casual Clothing: (Anything goes. Whatever you damn well feel like, I'll write it all.)

Hero Attire: (The Foundation is not rich, but Kyte is. Something middling, nothing too fancy here otherwise the OCs will be dealing with one pissed off Vampire Lord.)

Additional Items Or Accessories: (The Foundation and Kyte allow anything to flow in and out of the Foundation as a whole so as to better help their students. Free game here since Kyte doesn't really care about it)

Personality and backstory

Backstory: (The second most important part of the form. I will not accept anything that is not longer than four or five paragraphs. Here is also one of the only two places I will impose restrictions, however, this is more personal than anything. Due to personal reasons, I abstain from writing about alcohol and drugs, suicide and the like. Anything else is free game, but I implore you not to touch any of those mentioned topics. This is a dark story, but those go a bit too personal to me.)

Relationships: (Simple here. Anything goes. Family, friends before they were in the Foundation, people that were important to them outside of family or friends)

Personality: (The most important part of the form. Any form that is not longer than about four or five paragraphs is getting turned away. Personality should be the thing that everything else is based around, in my opinion, so give me something good or else I will reject the OC outright. I'm not a mind reader, I need information to make a proper decision on someone else's character. I will also outright reject characters I see as cliché unless you can convince me otherwise)

Likes: (Anything the OC likes, it could be things, people, concepts, anything goes.)

Dislikes: (Same as above, anything the OC dislikes put it here. Anything goes, except for racist and homophobic stuff, that shit has got no place here)

Hobbies (Anything that they like to do in their spare time? List them here!)

Habits: (Anything they do out of anxiety or annoyance or whatever the reason may be. Do they have a verbal tic they repeat over and over again, or do they act a particular way whenever they are annoyed?)

Fears: (Contrary to most people, I will accept anything here. Failure, the dark, it doesn't matter so long as they do actually have a fear and aren't fearless.)

Secrets: (The foundation knows all and sees all… Except for this. The one or two facts that the OC hides about themselves from everyone)

Strengths:

(Basically, their personality or some physical strengths! Should be equal with their weaknesses!)

Weaknesses:

(Same as above! Must be equal or more than strengths!)

Quotes: (A good way for me to grasp the personality and see what the OCs think is the most important to them

Fighting Style: (Close-range, Medium-range, Support, Long-Ranged. They could be a grappling and submission expert for all I care, just tell me how they fight.)

How did they find out about the Foundation?: (Did they have a direct meeting with Kyte? Was it a chance meeting? Did they crawl and pass out on the doorstep? The Foundation is unsanctioned but is well known about, anything within reason can go here)

The Quirk! : This section is completely self-explanatory, just give the general description, weaknesses, strengths, what it does, yada yada. Give me as much detail as you can.

Quirk Name:

Quirk Type:

Quirk Description:

Special Moves:

Future Techniques:

Quirk Strengths:

Quirk Weaknesses:

Plot points

Motivations/plot ideas: (What drives the OC? What makes them tick? What would you like to see out of them in certain situations)

Love Interest: (Self-explanatory)

Views on the Foundation: (Important. How do they view Kyte and the Foundation as a whole? Do they like it? Do they despise the fact that they're even there to begin with? Do they just not care and see it as somewhere they can crash and not take seriously? Give me interesting outlooks here)

Stats: 1-10 (1 for me in any given social situation, 10 if you're a god amongst men. Please refrain from having a 10 or high stats on everything, the Foundation is there to fix what is broken, not what is already perfect)

Physical Capabilities (Agility, brute strength, speed, any thing that the OC can have physical control over. This includes an amalgamation of their Quirk's strength if it assists them physically as well)

Intelligence: (Enough said here)

Teamwork: (Very clear here as well, do they actually work together, or are they more dysfunctional with others as my sleep schedule is with me)

Loyalty: (Would they turn on their friends the first chance they would get, or would they take a storm of bullets for them?)

Stealth: (Simple here, are they Solid Snake or are they a bull in a china shop?)

Creativity: (How intuitive in battle are they? How can they utilise their Quirks in unique ways?)

Courage: (Would they charge into a hailstorm of bullets or would they chicken out the second they were asked to tell a saucy secret?)

Extra: (Optional)

Things I missed or things you couldn't fit anywhere else:
