Rin and Izumi sat with Hotaru on the deck. Sesshomaru stood not far off from them on the grass as Kiyoshi had taken guard for the night.
"There it is. The first star in the sky tonight. Star light, star bright. The first star we see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might have the wish I wish tonight. Make your wish little bug." Rin said softly to her daughter as she sat between her and Izu.
"Is that a poem?" Izumi asked curiously.
"Kagome taught it to me. I only thought you could make wishes on shooting stars but she taught me you can make them also on the first star of the night." Rin replied.
"Wishes on stars?" Izumi questioned.
"Yes. You wish on a star and it will come true." She affirmed.
"That sounds like a human superstition." Izumi stated.
"No, the wishes do come true. All of mine have."
"Such as?"
"For years I wished that Lord Sesshomaru and I would be together for forever and we are. I wished that Kohaku would be released from Narakus evil influence, and he was." Rin counted off on her fingers as she spoke. "Once I wished for a pink kimono and then Lord Sesshomaru gifted me one."
"I am not convinced those are just the natural progression of things and him knowing your tastes." Izumi replied.
"I wished one night that you would stay with us and you did." Rin said. "You should try it. I know that whatever you wish it will come true."
Turning her gaze to the star as more began to appear Izumi contemplated what Rin had said.
"How is it possible though?"
"Perhaps it is putting your thoughts out into the heavens and it answering back." Rin offered.
"Magic then?" Looking back at Rin as she shrugged. "I don't believe in magic."
"You are a dog demon girl who can transform to appear as a human and you don't believe in magic?"
"That is not magic. That takes a lot of effort and training to be able to do." Izumi countered.
"I cannot alter my appearance in any way so it looks a lot like magic to me."
"Alright, let us say that I do partially believe you; what would I wish for?"
"Whatever your heart desires." Rin said with a small smile. Looking back to the sky Izumi thought about it for a moment before closing her eyes.
Reopening them she brought her gaze back to Rin.
"Okay, I wished for…"
"No! You can't tell me otherwise it will not come true." She said quickly.
"You never said that."
"Well I just did." Rin giggled out. "You can tell me after it comes true."
Glancing at Kiyoshi who seemed utterly amused by their exchange she turned her eye to Sesshomaru as he stared up at the night sky and wondered if he too had taken to Rins proclivity of wishing on stars.
