When it was near time for Sesshomaru to return Jin volunteered to go to the post taking Nozumi with him after he had made sure that Rina wouldn't mind looking after her.
She had assured him she would love to and seemed eager putting that part of his mind at ease.
He needed to get away and have some space from everyone and nearly everything that reminded him of Nen. Helping Nagi and keeping a watchful eye over the other humans that lived there or traveled kept his mind busy for the most part.
At the end of the day or night when he was through Rina would insist he let her continue to watch his daughter saying she was more than happy to. Most days he obliged wanting to be alone to himself or sleep but after a few days it began to bother him.
Going in to the inn he went up the stairs hearing Rina talking to Umi softly but loud enough for him to hear. Stopping at the door it sounded as if Rina were crying.
"I didn't want to but I had to. I know you won't understand little one and I'm sorry." She said her voice muffled behind the closed door.
Furrowing his brow Jin swallowed hard before knocking loudly.
Hearing her startle somewhat he listened as she cleared her throat before making her way to the door.
"Who is it?" Rina called out.
"Jin." He replied attempting to keep his tone even. Sliding open the door Rina smiled up at him even though it was apparent she had in fact been crying.
"Umi and I are alright. Go relax and take a nap. I'll bring her to you later on." Rina said in her friendly way.
"No. I want my daughter." Nearly pushing past her he went to where she was lying on her stomach playing with a small cloth doll Rina had made for her. "Hey baby girl."
Meeting her gaze as she looked up at him she smiled and coo'd, gurgling as she drooled. Bending down Jin picked her up and turned back to Rina who was standing in the doorway.
"What were you saying to her before I knocked?" Jin asked.
"I don't remember Jin." Feigning a weak smile that didn't quite make it to her eyes made him feel uneasy.
"Why were you apologizing to her?" He questioned more firmly. Watching as Rina seemed to tremble for a moment she sighed before shutting the door.
"Jin, I have to say that I need you to promise me you won't tell anyone what I am about to say." Rina said. "Especially Nagi."
"Alright." He agreed. Rina stood her features becoming sullen as she took a breath.
"I am Umis mother."
"You?" Jin stated at her in shock. "Is she…is Nagi her father?"
"No and that was my dilemma. I found out I was pregnant shortly before I went to the compound to see where Nagi was going. It was from some man I have never seen again and I like Nagi…I couldn't have a child, he wouldn't want me then." Rina bemoaned.
"So, when, relations opened with us you decided to abandon her on the property? You thought that was a good idea?" Jin felt his blood slam into his face never feeling so angry before in his life.
"I didn't know what to do!" Rina defended. "I couldn't tell my parents, just because my mother runs a brothel does not mean she wants her daughter to be a whore. I figured someone would find her and you did."
"Barely." Jin fired at her. "She wouldn't have survived much longer. She had been almost eaten alive by bugs, had no strength to cry…you didn't even have the decency to clean her up! You hid her under a bush covered in leaves and dirt! You didn't care if anyone found her or not and for what?! So Nagi would fuck you?!"
"Leaving my daughter was the hardest decision of my life but I did it and now I have to live with it." Rina said flatly.
"My daughter! Mine! My daughter would have died if we hadn't found her when Nen and I did. She is our daughter, not yours." Jin retorted firmly.
"Oh you mean the husband that left you? So, abandoned both of you?"
"Woman, I will hit you." Jin warned his voice almost coming out as a growl. "Get out of my way."
"You almost killed everyone in that compound. Don't think I don't know? They all talk about it, what you did. You are no better than me. I made a mistake just the same as you did." Rina continued on.
"Move, now!" Jin shouted advancing towards her. His loud tone caused Umi to whine before crying as he pushed his way out of the room heading towards his own.
Slamming the door shut he took a breath to compose himself. "Shhh, it's okay baby girl. Papa's sorry for yelling. It's okay."
Walking to the futon he sat down on it holding her to him as she began to settle. "I wish your father were here. You are never seeing that woman again. How could she…? I should tell Nagi. If he is having relations with her whose to say she wouldn't do something like that again?"
Closing his eyes and resting it against Umis head. "But Nagi's a jerk and was always kind of mean to me. He told me what all of the other humans said, that I was sick and needed to be fixed. Why do I owe him? I guess though it wouldn't really be for him, it would be for any other kids she decided to push out of her rotten cunt."
"Never say that word." Jin said quickly realizing he shouldn't talk so vulgarly around his child. "Your father, he told me there was nothing wrong with me. He showed me there was nothing wrong with being attracted to another man and I fell in love with him for it."
"I feel as if I'm missing an arm or a piece of myself not having him around. I wish I could tell him this and we could figure it out together." Adjusting her as she wanted to stretch out in his arms she made sucking sounds to indicate she was hungry.
Taking the container he had he poured out some milk in what he used for her bowl and the clean cloth to feed her. Holding her close as she suckled the milk from his finger he decided on what to do.
