"I know that you have a responsibility but I still wish you didn't have to go." Sana said softly to Jiro. He would be leaving the next day until he was relieved at weeks end.
"Same." He agreed. "You will both be well taken care of but I want to be here, with you, all of the time."
Cuddling closer to him Sana rested with her back to him. Wrapping his arms around her under the blanket he placed his hand to her stomach breathing in her scent deeply.
Searching out their child's energy he found comfort when he felt the small flutter back in response. "I think I can be able to tell what you are having."
"Do you know already?" She asked turning her head to glance at him.
"No."
"Jiro, why not wait? I know the others have found out what their pups are before they are born but I would like it to be a surprise. Humans can't tell and it is exciting to guess." She said.
"It does add to the anticipation of it, wondering and guessing." He added. "Alright, I can wait."
"Thank you." Settling back against him she sighed softly.
"Have you decided what you want me to call you? I don't mind staying with sunflower but I don't want to say the wrong name and upset you."
"No. I have no idea what name I want to go by." She answered honestly. "It would be easier to remain as Sana since that is what everyone knows me by but…now that I have remembered and come to terms with what happened to her perhaps it is time to let her rest."
"I do like Sadako. It is a strong name." Jiro said.
"It is. Having only brothers my father named me to make sure that I would be able to hold my own with them, at least that is what my mother had told me. It is so strange how I forgot so many things."
"You were traumatized. I suppose it took a similar shock to bring your memories to the surface."
"Iku told me once that people can disassociate themselves from one part of them after something awful has happened. She said Riku went through a similar event once after an incident in the south. Maybe it was after what happened to you and Nen."
"Could be." Jiro took his turn to sigh. "I wonder what he has found out, if he has made it south."
"By now I am sure he has. Do you regret not going with him?"
"No. I miss him a lot but I still do not understand his need to go. As close as we are there are many things I have never been able to understand about him."
"Oh?"
"We grew up together under the exact same circumstances and I know that some of why he is the way he is is from taking care of me, that I understand, but if we are identical, littermates, then why do I like females and he prefers males?" Jiro wondered.
"I don't know. You are both identical in looks but completely opposite personalities. Maybe he was just born that way. I have talked with Jin about it to understand better and he says he always knew he liked men even when he was young and didn't quite understand it himself." She replied.
"We never talked about any of it, what we sought in mates. When we were in the celestial palace with others serving we found we could express ourselves. I tried to court some ladies but none of them were interested in me, they liked Nen, but he never showed an interest." Jiro said. "He had a couple of males at different times who he could have mated with but chose not to."
"Why is that?" Sana asked.
"They wanted pups with him and he didn't. Never showed an interest in being a father."
"I suppose it just took finding the right person under the right circumstances to change his mind." She offered.
"Suppose so." Jiro agreed. "It is getting late sunflower. You should sleep."
"I know. I am tired but I don't want the morning to come so soon and have to say goodbye to you."
"You could come with me." He suggested.
"If Rina is down there…I don't think I could keep my mouth shut and cause problems."
"Who said you would have to?" Letting out a soft giggle at his words she thought on it for a minute.
"Iku and Riku will be disappointed. They have been looking forward to having me back in their hut. That and it would be best to stay here in my condition for now."
"You are not wrong." He replied.
"Next year we can all go down together. I have wanted to check out down there, see what types of merchants there are to trade."
"That would be nice, the three of us."
"Mhmm." She nodded her head a couple of times closing her eyes. Jiro stilled listening to her fall asleep while he physically felt a small kick against the palm of his hand.
