Sup guys? Lighting Wolf here, back for another story, this one about Halo. Enjoy the 800-word chapter. I don't own halo, Microsoft and 343 do.
The last D-79-TC 'Pelican' dropship docked with the UNSC Immortal. The third and perhaps final Infinity-Class Supercarrier in the UNSC fleet.
The carrier wasn't supposed to be ready yet, nor did anyone expect it to be needed…. But with Cortana's rapidly encroaching empire of 'Created' and the Banishing rising? It was pressed into service.
"We need to go, there's too many enemy contacts." One of the bridge staff stated. "Why are we still following command's…" They started to add before a glare from them silenced their protests.
Their plan was evacuating UNSC leadership and assets. They had powered down in orbit, only pausing to allow each of its 75 Pelicans to dock.
"Sir? Lord Hood's Pelican just docked that is the last of the available transports." One staff member added to which there was answer. "You are aware of how dangerous this plan was, correct?" They asked to which he did respond.
"If Cortana struck here? We'd have no leadership at all." Captain Landon Bardou responded, crossing his arms. "We have one of the strongest ships in human history. If we can't do anything against her fleet of guardians? What do you think the plan is? To run and hide somewhere nobody else will look?" Landon questioned to which the staff fell silent.
"Sir?" Landon heard, causing to him to look at him. "We need to leave, Slipspace event at the edge of the system. It isn't UNSC." Landon heard which caused him to nod before the ship began to move.
The supercarrier started to slide towards the edge of the system when it came down to it. He knew for a fact that one of the guardians had found them. He questioned how long it would take to find something to fight back with.
"Sir? Issue with the Slipspace drive…. DAMN IT!" The staff member said before energy surged over the console, throwing the bridge staff off their feet.
Landon slowly struggled to his feet as the staff looked over their consoles.
"Sir? Something is pulling us along a certain path. I can't override it." The staff member said as Landon sighed to which he shook his head.
"Then make sure everything else is prepared." Landon stated as he crossed his arms. "I'm going to make sure Lord Hood is ok." Landon added as he walked through the doors and into the elevator.
Dozens of marines, naval staff, and civilians were all passing the captain. He knew that something was quite off, this ship was an ark for humanity, a lifeboat more than a powerful warship. The grey steel lifeless titanium A hull felt like a cocoon which carried a hive of sentient beings.
He began to wonder if they had ANY other ships in the sky. Humanity's armada would have been the first thing that was wiped out of the sky by Cortana. Landon thumbed the button that sent the box downwards into the depths of the hulking vessel. He was much more curious how this would end up happening next. There was only so many places they could do.
Then again? They were being pulled into the world, unsure of a guardian was pulling them along, the engines which were draped in alien technology. This ship would end up being one of humanity's last attempts to push back against the created.
The elevator landed in the hanger as Landon stepped out, he looked over the small army of people who occupied the hanger. He looked at Hood, his white snowy uniform making the sea of black, and greys seem almost muted in comparison.
"Sir." Landon added, snapping off a salute which Hood waved off.
"Captain Landon? Let's save formalities for after we make it through this." Hood stated while he nodded before he and him boarded the small box. "Things are a mess, only a handful of our fleet got past Cortana's blockade." Hood added, shaking his head with annoyance.
Landon was quite curious how to deal with that army, but the Banished would just burn the galaxy down to claim power. Then again? Power hungry monsters were better than an insane AI who would gladly drop their fleet out of the sky the second someone slighted them in any way shape or form.
Author Notes
Phew. First chapter done! I want to point out that next chapter will be delayed and such. Next chapter will be in 2-10 months and will show the Immortal reaching the Mass Effect Universe. Why is the ship called the Immortal? Because I didn't want to rip off the Eternal. Next chapter will be 900-3500 words and such at the moment. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
