Previously in Pokémon: The Lost Child, Piplup had just woken up with no memory of who he was. He searched around, encountering a few obstacles, before anointing a young Treecko who had lost his family as well. The two decided to stick together, but they are now faced with a massive storm coming.
Treecko sees a gust of wind coming as well and knows this means that he is in danger, "We need to find shelter fast."
"What is going on, Treecko?" Piplup asked.
"I don't have much time to explain. All I can say now is that a massive storm will be coming and while both of us can resist the rain, I am weak to the hurricanes and you are weak to the thunder."
"What?" Piplup said, still confused about what exactly Treecko was talking about.
"I will explain later. For now, help me break apart this tree. It will make a good shelter."
Piplup and Treecko started smashing at the tree to try and break it apart enough so they could get inside it. Piplup was primarily pounding it while Treecko was absorbing the life out of it so Piplup would have an easier time breaking it.
After enough time, they were both able to get in, and Treecko covered the hole they made with his leaves. It was dark now though, so Treecko told Piplup to make a fire since he couldn't since he was weak to fire. Piplup didn't know how to, though, so Treecko told him how to, and they both sat down around the fire.
"So Treecko, you were going to tell me what was going on," Piplup said.
"Yeah, that is right, but before I get into that, I first need to tell you about your moves. Every Pokémon species has these types of attacks, and each attack is of a specific type, with some types being stronger or weaker against other types. You are weak against electric-based moves, and I am weak against flying moves."
"That makes sense. Man, this is going to take a lot of getting used to too. Do you have any idea what is responsible for the storm?" Piplup asked.
"I don't know, these storms can either come naturally or from some Pokémon battling."
In the clouds, a rampaging Thundurus was fighting with Landorus.
"I will stop you if you don't stop," Landorus said.
"You have no control over me, Landorus. You make me so mad, and so does the rest of the world." Thundurus launched a massive lighting strike, which Landorus blocked as he was immune to it.
"You know that you can't touch me, Thundurus, while I have my weapon against you." Landorus launched multiple stones at Thundurus, which was weak too it.
"You may think that Landorus, but I have prepared and I have my weapon against you." Thundurus launched a ball in the air, which turned into a water move since it was in the rain, something which Landorus was weak to.
"I will admit I am impressed."
Back inside the tree that Piplup and Treecko were hanging out in, they were waiting for the storm to finish, not knowing when it would, if it ever would.
"We may be here for a while." Before Treecko could finish, a massive blast of lightning hit the tree, destroying it. Piplup and Treecko were barely able to get out in time and both were injured from the blast.
Piplup noticed Thundurus and Landorus squabbling and deduced that they must be the ones causing the storm. "Look up there, Treecko."
"That looks like Thundurus and Landorus. It must be Thundurus that is causing this."
"We need to stop them," Piplup said.
"Don't be stupid, we don't stand a chance against them. As you can see, Landorus is already fighting Thundurus. We should just let Landorus handle him." As Treecko was talking, they were hit with another thunderbolt and Piplup was knocked out.
Treecko turned around to see it was a rampaging Elekid who had somehow become overcharged with electricity and was now just attacking everything it saw. Elekid tried to attack Piplup with a thunderbolt again, but Treecko stepped in the way to stop it as he resisted electric moves. Piplup had saved Treecko twice, so it was now time for him to repay the favour.
Treecko and Elekid battled, with both going in for direct hits, with Treecko repeatedly pounding the Elekid, who was trying to attack as quickly as he could. Eventually, Treecko switched over to draining the entry out of Elekid while not taking much damage from Elekid's electric moves that they kept using against Treecko. It was a close battle, but Treecko was able to outlast Elekid and knock him down.
"Are you okay, Piplup," Treecko said while rushing up to check on Piplup.
"Yeah, I am fine. You saved me."
"Well, you did save my life twice, so it is the least I can do. I need to transport you to a pond where you can heal. The rain has created quite a few, so it shouldn't be a problem. However, Thundurus and Landorus were still battling it out, and I couldn't risk going too far out in the open or else risk getting hit harder," Treecko said.
In the skies, Landorus and Thundurus were still battling, with Landorus able to slowly chip Thundurus down while Thundurus couldn't respond very well due to the Weather Ball trick frizzling. Once the rain went away, Thundurus knew that I was over and he decided to run away with Landorus leaving as well.
"Well that is good now I just need to find some pond." It didn't take that long for Treecko to find a pond to place Piplup in, and in time Piplup was healed up enough to continue walking.
"Man, that move did so much damage," Piplup said.
"Electric is one of the types that you are weak to. I am not weak to electric though," Treecko said.
"What else am I weak to?" Piplup asked.
"You are also weak to my grass moves, which is kind of ironic," Treecko said.
"Also, what attacked me?" Piplup asked.
"It was an Elekid. It seems to have become overcharged with the storm and was rampaging. Luckily, I was able to stop him."
"Shouldn't we help him? It wasn't his fault that he attacked you?" Piplup said.
"It doesn't matter to me; we need to focus on surviving, and that means continuing to find some sort of shelter for the night," Treecko said.
"You don't need to be so cold to other Pokémon; we should still help if we can."
"I can see that you have a lot of empathy, and while that is a commendable quality, it is not practical. We need to look out for ourselves," Treecko said.
"I don't care. I am going to help out anyway," Piplup said.
"This is going to be the death of us," Treecko said in disappointment at Piplup refusal to listen.
"Are you okay, Elekid?" Piplup said after running up to Elekid.
"Yeah, I'm fine. What happened?" Elekid asked.
"According to Treecko, an electric blast overcharged your electric powers and caused you to run wild and attack people."
"Oh man, I am so sorry," Elekid said.
"It's okay, we know that it was not your fault."
"I need to find my mom as well. She must be worried sick about me."
"We can help you with that. Just tell us who your mom is?" Piplup said.
"Speak for yourself, I am not helping with this at all," Treecko said.
"Show some compassion; he is lost," Piplup said.
"Alright, fine," Treecko said reluctantly.
"Well, my mother is an Electabuzz," Elekid said.
The three started searching around, all of them walking around the forest yelling "Electabuzz" over and over. Nobody was having any luck for a while, until the Electabuzz finally caught her name and came running up to Piplup.
"Are you talking to me?" The Electabuzz inquired.
"That depends. Are you missing a child?"
"Yes, I am. Have you found him?"
"Yes, just follow me and I will show you," Piplup said.
"Thank Arceus," Electabuzz said.
The three regrouped, and both Elekid and Electabuzz were happy to be reunited. Piplup found it sweet, but all Treecko could think about was where they were going to sleep when night came.
"Look, this is great and all, Piplup, but we need to go and find some shelter because night is going to come any minute now."
"Oh, you need shelter. That is not a problem. You can stay with us for the night," Electabuzz said.
"See I told you it is good to be nice," Piplup said.
"You just got lucky this time," Treecko said.
"You should listen to your friend Treecko. Not everyone is going to be grateful. But even if you don't get anything as a reward, trying to help people as much as you can always provide a reward, even if only on the inside," Electabuzz said.
"Please just be quiet. I don't want to hear any more of this nonsense anymore," Treecko said.
"I see that you're a pessimist. I don't know what happened that caused you to turn this way."
"I lost my family," Treecko said.
"I am sorry to hear that, but you can't let the past weigh you down," Electabuzz said.
Treecko and Piplup went to Electabuzz's house. Treecko was given some time to think about what Electabuzz said and was starting to realize that he was acting pretty horribly.
