Previously, in Pokémon: The Lost Child, Aegislash, after discovering the cause of the Brotherhood mining operation going silent, was forced to ally with Empoleon and Sceptile to take on a much bigger threat. They were able to defeat Camerupt, but not at the cost of some lives, and Empoleon and Sceptile, slightly unsatisfied, are forced to continue with their journey.
At the same time, the seeds of conflict are being sown, and Empoleon and Sceptile are only some time away from the fight of their lives.
"These two Pokémon, they are more special than I initially realized. They are about to face a challenge that I am not sure either of them can handle. I want to do something to help them, but my ability is limited. The winds of change have begun. Neither of them has any idea what they are in store for. I need to do something, but I don't know what I can do. I will figure something out," In the deep vacuum of space, said Deoxys.
Meanwhile, down on Earth, Empoleon and Sceptile were walking through a field, unsure of where to go next. They had both been thinking about Aegislash some more. He was a horrible Pokémon, but they thought maybe there was some sliver of goodness in him. Neither was sure, but the thought couldn't escape them. What Aegislash did was still horrible, but the world is not always so black and white.
Empoleon and Sceptile were walking along when suddenly, Deoxys came flying down from the sky onto the ground. This caught Empoleon and Sceptile off guard quite a bit, and both of them were staring down Deoxys. Empoleon spoke the first words, saying "Hi."
"I remember you, how you just left us without giving us any information after we helped you," Sceptile said, a bit bitter over that.
"I understand how you two feel. I have been doing some studying. There was something unusual about you two, something that I couldn't get out of my mind. You two, I have a feeling, might be the chosen ones, the ones that will be key in the destruction of the greatest threat this planet has ever seen," Deoxys responded.
"Are you talking about the Brotherhood? We have been going against them for a while," Sceptile responded.
"The Brotherhood is only one piece of a much larger puzzle. Your true challenge with the Brotherhood will come soon, but there is something much worse on the horizon," Deoxys explained.
"What is it, Deoxys? Just tell us what you are talking about instead of dodging all our questions," Sceptile demanded.
"I am sorry, but I can't say anything. I have already said too much. This is your warning, though; an old foe is returning, and it will be your most difficult challenge yet; you don't have much time," Deoxys, as he was speaking, began flying off, both Empoleon and especially Sceptile annoyed at how vague Deoxys was with his information."
"What could that mean?" Empoleon wondered.
"Maybe we are about to face down Aegislash or maybe Dark Empoleon is somehow back," Sceptile suggested.
"What do you think, Sceptile?" Empoleon asked.
"We were just forced to team up with Aegislash. Perhaps he followed us here and is about to face us," Empoleon wondered.
"My bets are on Dark Empoleon-" As Empoleon was talking, Sceptile was hit in the back with some sort of massive water cannon attack. Empoleon turned around to see that it was Dark Empoleon, and he commented, "Well that answers that question. I guess I was correct."
"How did he survive that collapsing cave?" Sceptile wondered.
"His power must be even greater than we thought," Empoleon responded.
Darkrai would start speaking through Dark Empoleon, with him having a very deep and demonic voice, "You two have been a real pain for my operations, but now it is time to die."
"Wait, that thing can talk," Sceptile commented.
Darkrai through Dark Empoleon kept saying in his demonic voice, "This is not Empoleon talking. I am the leader of the Brotherhood and this is my mouthpiece to speak through. I am not feeling especially generous to you right now, so don't expect Dark Empoleon to show any mercy." After talking, Darkrai, through Dark Empoleon, let out a very slight creepy laugh that was very unsettling to both Empoleon and Sceptile.
"We already know who you are Darkrai don't hide behind a proxy like a coward," Sceptile said.
"I'm rather impressed that you know that information. You won't know that information for much longer."
Dark Empoleon charged forward at super speed to kill Empoleon. Their claws clashed with each other, creating a massive shockwave that even hit the trees, though it didn't knock them down. Empoleon and Dark Empoleon glared at each other intensely Empoleon knew that this was going to be the ultimate battle, the biggest one they had faced. Perhaps en route to taking down the Brotherhood for good.
The shockwave from the clash sent both Empoleon and Dark Empoleon back. While Empoleon fired a hydro pump, Dark Empoleon fired his dark hydro pump. The two hydro pumps clashed with each other, unable to overpower the other. Dark Empoleon's dark hydro pump was getting closer to Empoleon, so Empoleon dodged out of the way.
"You are much stronger than when you last fought Dark Empoleon," Darkrai said through Dark Empoleon.
"You can thank Aegislash for that," Empoleon responded.
"Aegislash would never betray me. I would trust him with my life," Darkrai said through Dark Empoleon.
"I never said anything about betrayal," Empoleon said while talking, launching another hydro pump at Dark Empoleon, which Dark Empoleon didn't see coming and was only able to block.
At the same time, Sceptile had gotten up, snuck up behind Dark Empoleon and hit him with an unexpected leaf blade, which sent Dark Empoleon back a bit. After Dark Empoleon managed to get hit twice, a rather surprised Darkrai said through Dark Empoleon, "That is rather surprising, but it is time to stop playing around."
Dark Empoleon teleports behind Empoleon and launches him into the air. Dark Empoleon then teleports to hit Empoleon in the air, doing so over and over again, the cycle of a hit then teleport. Sceptile saw what was going on and wanted to do something to help. Seeing his partner in grave danger awakened something in Sceptile. Sceptile yelled, and through his mouth came a massive beam. It was not green like Sceptile expected, it was purple. Purple is the color normally associated with dragons, Sceptile had somehow managed to fire off a dragon beam-like attack.
"What! How did I do that?" Sceptile said, in shock at seeing that.
Empoleon wailed out in pain from the beating he took but was able to get up and say, "Thanks for the save Sceptile."
Darkrai said through Dark Empoleon, "A dragon move, how can that even be possible? Heh heh heh, it doesn't matter, victory is still completely assured." Dark Empoleon rushed forward towards them again, but Sceptile fired another dragon pulse at Dark Empoleon, which Dark Empoleon was trying to block with his hands. Dark Empoleon was still able to keep moving forward while blocking the attack and was getting closer and closer.
Empoleon tried to disrupt Dark Empoleon by running towards the side and attempting to hit Dark Empoleon with his hydro pump, but Dark Empoleon fired his dark hydro pump to clash with Empoleon's. The energy Dark Empoleon was using, though, meant he was unable to keep moving forward. Dark Empoleon decided to teleport out of the way, causing both the hydro pump and dragon pulse to clash, causing an explosion.
Dark Empoleon teleported from behind to hit Empoleon, but Empoleon caught it in time and countered with his claw, causing another shockwave. Sceptile jumped in and tried to hit Dark Empoleon with a leaf blade, but Dark Empoleon blocked it with his other claw. Dark Empoleon then sent out a massive burst of energy that knocked both Empoleon and Sceptile backwards.
"He is too powerful for us, Sceptile," Empoleon said, starting to pant from the constant battling.
Sceptile was also getting tired from the battling and responded to Empoleon with, "I know what we are going to do."
"There is one move that we have that may be strong enough to take him down with our ultimate attack," Empoleon suggested.
"That thing is far too dangerous for us to use," Sceptile objected.
"I understand, but we don't have any other chance right now. We need to do it." Empoleon did have a point, and Scpetile reluctantly was forced to respond with, "I know, so do it then."
The confused Darkrai watched on as Empoleon launched his hydro pump at Sceptile, a move the confused Darkrai had never seen before. Sceptile would channel the power of the hydro pump through himself, generating a massive water tornado. This was the upgraded version of the move they first used against Tyranitar. Now that they were more powerful, that move was more powerful.
"How can this be?" Darkrai spoke through Dark Empoleon.
Dark Empoleon dashed forward to take out Sceptile, but Sceptile used his water tornado and guided it into Dark Empoleon, which eventually hit Dark Empoleon. The hit was huge; it sent Dark Empoleon flying backwards and knocked him out cold. This attack, however, took all the strength that Sceptile had left and he passed out cold, "Sceptile!" Empoleon yelled out.
Empoleon rushed over to Sceptile to try and help him first, trying to wake him up.
In the distance, Dark Empoleon had survived the blow he took rather easily, and Darkrai spoke through Dark Empoleon at first, giving a slight creepy laugh at this while saying, "How pathetic all that power for barely a scratch."
Dark Empoleon teleported next to Empoleon and knocked him out rather quickly. With Empoleon knocked to the ground and Sceptile unconscious, things were looking grim.
"Why, why are you doing this, Darkrai?" Empoleon asked, with that being the final thought on his mind as he was facing down Dark Empoleon.
"I will rule this world with the power I wield. The power of the gods. Everyone will bow down to me. For that to be accomplished, though, you must die." Dark Empoleon got his claws out, ready to hit Empoleon and deliver the fatal blow. Empoleon stood there, closing his eyes and ready for the death that was about to come.
