Previously on Pokémon: The Lost Child, Empoleon and Sceptile entered a town that was previously controlled by The Brotherhood. They found that the town had descended into chaos. Empoleon was able to get the town back together after some encouraging words. However, Empoleon and Sceptile learned that one of their old foes may still be alive.
Empoleon and Sceptile were sent into a panic. Aegislash, one of their biggest enemies, was seemingly still alive. Empoleon and Sceptile were standing around, with Sceptile tracing back and forth and Empoleon just looking down.
"Maybe it's a different Aegislash," Sceptile suggested.
"If it was, why would they be talking about stuff related to the explosion and be mentioning Arceus?" Empoleon said.
"Unfortunately, I can't answer that. I just really hope that it is," Sceptile said.
"I do as well, but as of now, that seems incredibly unlikely," Empoleon said.
"How could Aegislash possibly have survived that explosion? I don't know how anyone could have," Sceptile said.
"Well, we were able to escape," Empoleon reminded him.
"Yeah, that is true, but we only survived because we were teleported out by a god Pokémon," Sceptile said.
While Empoleon and Sceptile were talking, there was a Pokémon that was keeping watch over them. He was ready to spring his attack on the two; he was going to get his revenge for what they had done.
"All we can do is keep going, I guess," Sceptile said.
Just as Sceptile was talking, suddenly, out of a bush, a bunch of seeds were fired at both of them. Empoleon spotted them before Sceptile, and to protect him, he pushed him out of the way of the seeds and took them all head-on. Sceptile was taken back and looked over to say, "What in Arceus' sake."
Right after Sceptile realized something was wrong, a Pokémon leaped out of the bushes and slammed into Sceptile with an extremely powerful move. The move was so powerful that it instantly knocked Sceptile back and nearly knocked him out.
Empoleon and Sceptile looked over to see that it was Watchog. He was back, and he was ready to take his revenge.
"I have finally found you two; you will pay for what you have done, and I will have my revenge," Watchog said.
"Watchog, it's you; it can't be," Empoleon said.
"I am the same Watchog that you humiliated all those months ago."
"If this is about the fact that we are adults now, can we move past those petty squabbles?" Empoleon pleaded.
"This is not what this is about, and you know it. You took away the only thing that I care about, and now you will die," Watchog said.
"What in Arceus' sake are you talking about? This is the first time I have seen you since then," Empoleon said.
"Don't lie to me, you know what you and your little friend did. I was there to see it, and I won't rest until you two are dead," Watchog said.
"I seriously have no idea what you are talking about." Empoleon tried to reason with Watchog, but he was consumed by rage and vengeance, screamed, and started charging forward to attack Empoleon. Empoleon, despite his extreme confusion at what was going on, had no choice but to defend himself to protect himself and Sceptile.
Watchog charged forward, punching Empoleon more aggressively than he had ever seen before. Empoleon used his claws to block all the attacks, but Watchog was relentlessly attacking over and over again. Empoleon could see the raw rage in his eyes, something bad must have happened to make Watchog this angry, but Empoleon had no idea what it could be.
"I don't want this Watchog, please stop; we need to talk about it," Empoleon stated.
"There is no point in reasoning, not after what you two did to my friends and my family," Watchog said.
"I didn't do anything to them; I have no idea what you are talking about," Empoleon said.
"Liar!" Watchog shouted before continuing to attack Empoleon with his punches over and over again. Empoleon was left with even less of a choice; he now had to fight back.
Empoleon launched a hydro pump at Watchog during one of his punches, which knocked him back. Watchog started firing some seeds at Empoleon, which he dodged out of the way.
Watchog continued to fire seeds at Empoleon, which Empoleon was struggling to avoid. He tried to destroy the seeds with his water moves, but they kept breaking through. However, when Empoleon tried desperately to fire something different to hopefully destroy the seeds, he fired an ice beam out of his mouth, which destroyed the seeds and hit Watchog.
Empoleon was stunned at what happened, he had managed to find a new move that he could use, and now he was more than ready to continue taking on Watchog.
"How can this be? This can't be possible," Watchog said.
"Nothing is impossible, Watchog, you need to understand that," Empoleon said.
Watchog charged forward and continued trying to hit Empoleon's head, but Empoleon blocked the move and slashed him with his metal claw. Watchog continued to launch seeds, but Empoleon destroyed them with his ice beam. Empoleon then launched a hydro pump at Watchog, which hit him very hard and knocked him back.
Empoleon used the time that Watchog was down to check up on Sceptile to see if he was okay.
"Sceptile, wake up," Empoleon said.
"I'm okay, Empoleon; that was a powerful hit I took though," Sceptile said as he was staggering back up. Sceptile, after he got up fully, continued by saying, "I know what that move Watchog used was; it's retaliate."
"I don't know that one," Empoleon said.
"It's a move that does way more damage if you use it after a Pokémon on your side faints or dies," Sceptile said.
"Wait, it can't be," Empoleon said.
"This new move is a gift; it is the perfect tool to get my revenge after you two murdered my gang, my friends, my bros, and my family," Watchog said after getting back up.
Those words completely shocked and horrified Empoleon and Sceptile. Watchog once had a gang of Patrats, and they were all dead, and Watchog seemed to think that they were the ones that killed them.
"Watchog, you have this all wrong, we aren't the ones that killed them. We are sorry that happened, and it must be devastating, but please give us a chance to explain," Empoleon said.
"I am not blind to the lies that you spew out," Watchog said.
Empoleon and Sceptile, despite their best efforts, were still unable to convince Watchog to listen to reason. Watchog rushed back up and attempted to take Empoleon and Sceptile down. However, now that both of them were in fighting shape, Watchog was no match for them. Sceptile dodged every move Watchog threw at him and struck back, and Empoleon used his various water moves to distract Watchog so that Sceptile could get in even more hits. Watchog was unconscious but not dead in no time.
"I don't understand," Empoleon said.
"I don't either, what could have Watchog thinking that we were the ones who killed his gang," Sceptile said.
"I wish that we could get him to listen," Empoleon said.
"Someone so consumed by revenge will not listen, sad as it is. Something isn't right about all of this; it feels like something else is at play," Sceptile said.
"The question I have is: clearly, it wasn't us that killed Watchog's family, but someone had to have, and we can't fix this without first figuring out who it is," Empoleon pointed out.
"We have to keep going; maybe we will find answers somewhere," Sceptile said.
Empoleon and Sceptile left Watchog unconscious. They knew it was dangerous to leave him up to keep trying to kill them, but they didn't want to kill him, after what happened that caused him to be like this in the first place. They knew that they would at least have a head start, which would help.
"Poor Watchog," Empoleon said as they were walking away.
After a few minutes had passed and Watchog had gotten I decent distance away, he woke back up from his unconscious state. He immediately kneeled and started saying, "I'm sorry, my lord they are too powerful. I can't beat them."
"It is unfortunate, it seems that it is too late. I will be able to beat them, but I will need you to listen to me, my child," the voice said.
