After school the group went their separate ways, promising to meet at the end of the night to talk about what they liked about the career night and what they were going to look more into. Azalea decided to go in the end, after some encouragement from Alaric. "You never know what you will want to do. It may be hard for you to have a job in the wizarding world, maybe a Muggle job would be better for you."
After some thought she realised her uncle was right. Maybe the Muggle world did have more promising outlooks career wise for the famous Azalea Potter. However, as someone who had not been involved with the world for a long time she didn't know how many jobs were actually out there.
Putting her jacket in her locker, which she had finally given up and had just started whispering alohamora every time, she made her way into the hall to look at the various jobs being advertised.
After about ten minutes of browsing she noticed her uncle looking around at the other side of the room, she spotted Jenna and Elena and smirked.
"Go on, I know you want to go and flirt," she teased nudging him. He scowled at her before looking back at Jenna.
"You mind if I head over for a little bit?"
"Ric, it's not like I am a normal teen, I'll be fine." She waved him off. Shaking her head slightly as he walked towards the two. She then turned her attention to the stall next to the one she was stood by. Nursing… is that a job she could see herself doing…
Azalea quickily realised that a lot of the jobs on show here were centered around the town, which was something as a whole she doubted she would want to live her for the rest of her life. She made her way back out into the hallway, she saw Liz and went to go say hello, but then she saw how tense and focused the sheriff was. She looked around to see what was making her go for her gun and froze.
Logan Fell?
Stefan had told her that he died the night Vicki was turned into a vampire. That means…
Merlin's saggy left –
"Lea!"
The redhead turned at the sound of her name and she saw a girl who was in her English class… Dana that was her name. She tried to keep half an eye on the situation, but smiled at her.
"Hey, how is it going?" Azalea asked. "Anything catch your eye?"
She nodded eagerly.
"I have always wanted to be a midwife, and I was talking to the medical table and they gave me some great advice for the future."
Glancing back at the commotion, before turning back to Dana with a smile, she replied.
"That's great, I am not really sure what my plan is to be honest, but I reckon I'm done for the night. I'll see you in class tomorrow." Azalea touched her arm before she made her way through the crowd.
She wanted to find Bonnie, and make sure that the young witch got home ok, without having to worry about Logan Fell. She noticed the witch at the teacher table. She put on a happy face and made her way over to the witch.
"Hey Bonnie," she said smiling, the girl smiled back.
"Hey, how's it going?"
"Not bad, but hey why don't we go to your Grams' house and talk about magic a little more. I never got to learn a lot about your kind, and I am wondering if with my magic being from me, if I could learn it."
"We could learn together," she said grabbing the redheads hands in excitement, her eyes wide as she began to grin.
"Come on, let's go, but uh, why don't I show you something," Azalea took her hand and pulled her towards the toilets. Once they got there, she checked the stalls and pulled the darker teen into on of the cubicles. "Keep it unlocked," she said, offering her arm. "Link with me and hold on tight."
Bonnie did as she was told, Azalea began to spin and with a crack they were gone. When they got to Shella's porch, Bonnie turned her head into the bushes and vomited.
"Oh yeah, sorry I forgot to warn you." The redhead said rubbing the back of her head. She pulled her phone out of her bag and sent a text to Alaric. Letting him know that there was a vampire at the school and he should head home.
Bonnie walked into her grandmother's house, and the redhead followed.
"Grams? I'm here with Lea, we want to talk to you." She called out into the house.
Azalea stayed with the two witches for an hour before, making an excuse to leave and check on the situation. Saying her goodbyes she apparated back to the woods near the school. Rushing back into the premises she found Elena's anxious face.
"What's happening?" she asked the teen. Elena filled her in on how Stefan had gone to save Caroline with Stefan, then he was going to come back and take her home.
The two girls stayed near each other both pretending to look at leaflets as they waited for news. After what felt like a week, they saw Stefan re-enter the rooms. His eyes scanning for the two, but they made a beeline towards him.
"Is Caroline ok?" Elena asked him anxiously as soon as they were close enough. He wrapped her in his arms rubbing her back as he nodded. Azalea sighed in relief running her hand through the top of her hair. Caroline seemed to be as much of a magnet for trouble as Azalea was.
"She is fine, back home with her Mom, Damon is finishing Logan of now." He whispered to them, leading them out into a classroom so they could talk more freely.
"Do you know who turned him?" Azalea asked, knowing that there was more at play than just a rogue new vampire. "How has he been under the radar for so long?"
"We don't know but there have been a bunch of missing people in other towns and nearby cities. We weren't paying enough attention outside of Mystic Falls."
"How awful," Elena said. "Those poor people."
"At least it will be over tonight," Azalea said reassuringly. This place is worse than Hogwarts, she thought miserably.
"Come on," Stefan said rubbing Elena's arm. "I'll take you home."
"Can I stay with you tonight Stefan? I'll text Bonnie to cover for me if Jenna asks." She said, he nodded kissing her temple.
"I'll take you home first if you want Lea," he said, but the redhead smiled and shook her head.
"I'm good, you guys have a nice night. I'll call tomorrow to see if Damon has any news about who our mystery vamps are."
Stefan nodded and began to stir Elena out of the school. Azalea looked around at all the students in the hall, some of them grinning and chatting to their friends leaflets in their hands. Others standing with their parents shoulders forwards avoiding eye contact with anyone else. They are probably embarrassed to be with their parents, Azalea thought. She wished that she could have experienced that, she always found it so strange when people were embarrassed about their parents. She did however know that she was biased. She knew that if she had grown up with her parents, she would feel the same way about them. Then again, they were 20 when she was born so maybe they would be less embarrassing them most. Pulling herself from her thoughts, she decided to make her way back to the house, she couldn't see Jenna or Alaric so she guessed that the two had gone off somewhere after they had seen Logan Fell. She knew that it was Jenna's ex so she would have wanted to avoid him. Texting her uncle so he knew she was heading home, after she doubled checked and saw that his car was not in the school car park. She walked into the woods, making sure that no one saw her go in and apparated home.
"Alaric?" she called, as she landed in her bedroom. Walking around the house she quickily discovered that he wasn't home. Weird, she thought. Maybe he was still with Jenna, the redhead grabbed a book and sat on the sofa, waiting for the history teachers return.
Two chapters later she heard the jangle of keys and the lock click as Alaric walked through the front door.
"Hey. Where have you been?"
"Dealing with a creep."
"You didn't…" she trailed his expression telling her everything that she needed to know. "So, you are as reckless and me, good to know." She said sarcastically.
He chuckled, but otherwise ignored the comment. His expression then turned serious.
"It was a vampire that killed my wife."
"Oh Ric, I'm sorry." She said pulling her uncle into a hug.
"Thanks, I'd love to chat but I think I'm gunna crash, adrenaline is dropping, I'll see you tomorrow." He made his way up the stairs, as he did so the redhead phone roared to life.
She glanced at it and frowned. Elena? Oh Merlin what had happened now. She hit accept and brought the phone to her ear.
"Hello?"
"Lea,"
The redhead stood up straight her body alert at her friends' tone. "I'm still at Stefan's can you come and get me! Please, I'm at Stefan's."
"Shh, hey it's ok. I'm coming. I'm coming." She reassured the brunette grabbing her keys. She could tell by Elena's voice that it was not life threatening and it was something to do with Stefan himself. She had already used magic a lot today and didn't want to break her phone. Grabbing her eyes and her bag she rushed out of the house and into the Lavender car.
She drove towards the boarding house. Making her way down the dark roads. Allowing the car to do most of the work she zoned out, wondering what was happening between her two friends. Then she screamed as a guy appeared out of thin air, she gasped slamming on the breaks, but it was too late he was hit and the connection forced the car to spin until it's skidded tires were in the air, the boot raised.
Her lungs burned as she couldn't suck in a breath, she felt pain in her sides and in her wrists. Her neck had spasms of pain, shooting down into her spine. Azalea looked around as much as her neck would let her, she could see the tiny shards of glass from the window scattered over the floor like crystals. Her brain caught up with the events. The man! She had hit someone. She had to help him. She pushed the red button down to release her seatbelt to find that it wouldn't budge. She tugged a little as she repeated the motion.
Nothing.
Azalea was trapped. She turned to look at the poor man she had hit, she felt guilt and horror as she stared at his broken body. Tears began to spill, making his figure blurry. The fuzzy blob began to raise. At first she thought she was imagining it.
She blinked, blurring vision couldn't explain the cracks and crunches and the man put himself back together. Azalea felt the blood leave her face.
Vampire.
Whimpering she tried to unbuckle her seatbelt, with more force than before. Yanking on the fabric as much as she could, her red hair flying in front of her vision as she tugged.
Nothing.
With a deep breath, turned back to the man on the road. If he wanted to get to her he would have to get her out or put his head through the window.
She could still fight.
She could still try.
She began to search for a piece of glass that could be used as a weapon. She had not come this far to be killed by some random vampire on the side of the road. Grabbing the biggest piece she could see she prepared herself to attack as big, black boots stalking towards her…
Hope you enjoyed this chapter! She's going on a road trip haha. I wanted to mention the tea thing again haha it's had a few comments. So in the UK when we say tea we mean black tea. If we mean anything other than black tea we will give the type. It is such a big part of the culture, and in the black traditional British tea people add milk even if it is just the tiniest amount.
On a serious note though.
I just want to say that I am fully supporting the blacklivesmatter movement and if you would like links to petitions and information feel free to PM me xx
