This book is series of one shot Soulmate Au stories i have done. As always, anything your recognize does not belong to me.
The first one is going to be Bucky's.
Fate had a weird way of throwing people curve balls all the time. The biggest curve ball, however, was the fact that you had a deceased soldiers name written on your right hip. James Buchanan Barnes was written in elegant cursive on your right hip, and it had been there since you were born. Your parents had tried to keep the fact that your soulmate was dead from you as long as possible. That was until you came home from school when you were 13 years old in tears sobbing. You had read about Captain America and the Howling Commandos in your 8th grade history class when you discovered that Captain America's best friend had the same exact name that was on your hip. You rushed out of school bawling your eyes out in the bathroom while your best friend did her best to comfort you.
From that point on you went about your life ignoring the name of your soulmate that was written on your hip. You excelled at school even graduating high school two whole years early before scoring an internship at Stark Industries until you were 18 and hired on full time to work in a lab with nuclear fusion to help make clean energy. You quickly got your bachelors and masters from MIT to help increase your salary as it was paid for by Mr. Stark himself. You didn't mind though; no one knew you had a soulmate mark on your body. Not even Mr. Stark or Pepper Potts the two people you worked for and considered second parents...At least until the Sokovia Accords were brought into existence.
You were currently enjoying your day off as you sat in the kitchen of the new Avengers Facility. Stark transferred you to the Avengers because you were his favorite. You knew about what had happened during the events in Germany, but you tried your best to ignore it. The only problem was that you could not take your mind off of the fact that your soulmate was alive and a wanted criminal all over the world. You closed your (Y/E/C) colored eyes as you sipped your morning tea. You had always preferred tea to coffee but never understood why. You opened your eyes as you heard someone clear their throat behind you. You turned slipping a piece of your (Y/H/C) behind your ear and saw Captain America himself standing behind you. You had heard a rumor that amends had been made, but you had no idea if they were true. Now you know that the rumor was true. Captain America and more than likely Bucky Barnes and all of those who supported the Captain were now back in the Avengers Facility.
You gave a tight smile to him and continued sipping your tea.
"Ma'am, I don't think I have seen you before...Are you one of the new recruits that Tony brought in?" Steve asked. He had never seen you in all his time unfrozen from the ice. He watched you turn around in your seat and noticed that your tank top had risen slightly on its own from your slouching position. He could have sworn he saw elegant black writing on your hip. His eyes went back up to yours as you spoke.
"No. I am one of the scientists that has been with Stark Industries since he started to work on clean energy. I mainly focus on nuclear fusion to find a cleaner source of fuel. I was hired on at 18 after interning for a couple of years right out of high school. That was five years ago, a year before Loki invaded New York. I'm (Y/F/N) (Y/L/N). It's nice to finally meet you Captain," you answered with another smile.
Steve went wide eyed and nodded. He had heard about you from Tony as you were apparently like the daughter that Tony never had. You were insanely smart for someone of your age and had a very interesting personality. He furrowed his brow suddenly thinking back to the name that Buck had showed him written on his right hip. "Wait, did you say (Y/F/N) (Y/L/N)?" He saw you go stiff. "So you really are alive. Bucky will be pleased to know that you-"
You set down your cup of tea with a thud. "It is best, Captain Rogers, that Mr. Barnes remains oblivious to this discovery. In the end it would be best for all of us." You quickly put your mug into the sink and left the kitchen to go back to your room and rest. The last few weeks had been stressful as you were helping Tony find a way to help Rhodey walk again. You silently hoped and prayed that Steve would stay silent about the fact that she was Bucky's soulmate, and he was hers.
It had been a week since you had spoken with the Captain. You had been hard at work in the lab even though it was your day off. Tony and some of the other Avengers were on a mission so you were free to work as much as you wanted. You sighed heavily and stood sipping at your water while leaving the lab to go to the kitchen to eat something. You had been in the lab since seven in the morning. Your (Y/H/C) was thrown into a messy bun with multiple strands framing your face. Your face showed that you were super tired from the amount of time that you had been working. You froze as you saw James in the kitchen cooking something. Swallowing thickly, you turned to leave without making a noise...at least you had hoped James didn't notice you.
James' voice stopped you. "You don't have to leave," he said. It sounded as though he was trying not to show emotion behind his words, but his efforts failed. "Steve, he told me that he saw the name of your soulmate."
You closed your eyes desperately trying to push down the bubble of hope that you had. You didn't want to admit that you had felt so much emotional pain in your heart from whatever he had gone through. You didn't want to turn around and see your soulmate face to face, but Fate had named you soulmates for a reason. Somehow...someway...James completed you, and you completed him. Slowly, you turned to face the super soldier and looked him over. He had some scruff, and his hair was in a low bun. He had sweatpants and a tank top on. On his human arm was beautiful elegant cursive that spelled out your entire name. Tears sprung to your eyes as you looked up and met his brown eyes with your (Y/E/C) eyes.
James slowly came over to you and looked down at you. After all this time, he had finally found you. He couldn't believe how beautiful you were. a soft smile crossed his lips as he slowly lifted his hands and wiped away the tears that started to spill from your eyes. "You don't have to cry," he murmured softly.
You gave a small smile and leaned into his touch. "When I first found out who you were, I was devastated. I refused to talk to anyone afterwards and devoted my life to school and studying and excelling to make a name for myself. I thought if I blocked out the name on my skin that I would be fine eventually," you murmured softly.
James shook his head slightly and murmured, "You don't have to be alone anymore (Y/F/N)."
