A/N: Hope you liked the first chapter. Forgot to mention – My circus but not my monkeys. All characters belong to Shonda.
Three days after first speaking with her ex-wife about moving to New York City, Arizona walked out of Chief Bailey's office with tears in her eyes. Her fear of authority figures was long forgotten as she broke the news not only to her boss, but also to someone she considered her friend. She was completely taken off guard when the smaller woman became sentimental. She realized in that moment that she will be delivering this news all over the hospital and not just to colleagues, but to the people who had become her friends, her family, and who have truly saved her life both literally and figuratively. She also realized as she was walking down the steps to the main lobby that some people would not take the news so well. Case in point, Dr. Richard Webber, former chief, father figure, and one hell of a wingman. He was raging mad, mainly because she hadn't gotten to him before her new boss had. That conversation was interrupted by a real medical emergency. True to Grey-Sloan's reputation, news traveled fast and for the remainder of the day, the peds surgeon, turned maternal-fetal surgeon, turned peds surgeon once again was doing her best to answer questions and keep her emotions in check.
Several hours, three emergency surgeries 4 saved babies and 3 relieved mothers later and Arizona was finally able to put an end to her day. Walking out to her car, she took a moment to think about her earlier conversation with Miranda. She had to walk out, or she would have started crying. Not only had the two women become close, but there was also so much finality to the whole thing. She wasn't just quitting her job to move across the country, she was also saying good-bye to a dear friend. At one time, she would have resented Callie for this just as her ex said. But, as she sat in her car, looking up at the building she called home for ten years, she couldn't help but feel a bit of relief. She glanced to her left and saw the newly finished wing. The wing that was renovated because a rapist got free and one of their own nearly died in an explosion, trying to save a little girl who was taken hostage. Then she looked up at the main entryway. The long walkway where Derrick was shot by a crazed gunman who lost his wife. The same gunman Callie placed herself in front of as a shield to protect Arizona and little Ruby. Then to her right, she saw an ambulance barrel through with lights blazing and pictured herself following Callie's nearly lifeless body out on a gurney, their friends rushing to save her. She looked up and saw the helipad on the roof where she was brought back from Idaho after her plane crash that caused her to lose her leg, that caused her to make stupid ass decisions that caused her to lose her wife. Seattle Grace Mercy Death she shook her head at that. She would miss a lot of things, but she would not miss what seemed to be the curse on the staff there. Not just their health, but their marriages. She knew all too well what those walls could do to a marriage.
As she put her car in gear, she heard the familiar ping of Callie's text tone. She bit back the smile that was coming too easily now whenever her ex-wife called or texted. It appeared that something shifted since their phone call the other night. Previously, they would chat briefly, maybe even have a laugh or two about something Sofia said or did. But now, whenever Sofia finished talking to her, she would bring her the phone and say, "Mama wants you." Oh, how I wish that were true. She fought the feelings of wanting Callie nearly daily. She won most of the time, but lately, she was losing the battle and losing it quickly.
C: What did Bailey say?
Me: She called me a pixie stick!
C: What?
Me: Said she thought I was an empty vessel full of sugar who used to skate through the hospital.
C: Well…
Me: Calliope Iphegenia Torres!
C: Did you just full name me?
Me: Yes, yes, I did. You called me an empty vessel!
C: Well…that wasn't MY first impression of you.
Me: Oh yeah? What WAS your first impression then?
After a couple minutes of radio silence, Arizona decided to pull out of the parking lot and head home. Maybe I shouldn't have gone there. Driving through the streets of Seattle, the blonde's mind wandered back to her first weeks as a fellow at Seattle Grace. She had just left a patient's room and glanced toward the elevators. There stood the hottest woman she had ever seen. She was exotic looking, clearly a goddess. Her long black curls framed the most beautiful face she had ever seen and landed just below her strong broad shoulders. The sleeves of her white coat were rolled up clearly displaying muscular forearms, the front of the coat was open just enough to reveal an emerald, green silk top that outlined the swell of her amazing breasts. Allowing her gaze to fall lower, she noticed a barely appropriate for work tight black skirt showcasing those long, sexy toned legs that went on for days. Just when she thought the vision before her couldn't get any better, she flashed the most gorgeous smile that lit up expressive dark chocolate eyes. This woman was hot, dirty hot, sex on a stick hot. Shaking off the memory, the blonde looked up and realized she was sitting in her own driveway. She also realized that lost in her thoughts, she missed some texts.
C: Sry. Drvng.
C: Let's just say, after you kissed me in a dirty bar bathroom, I found myself in the chapel praying to God to help me get over the hideous butterfly scrub cap so I could hook up with the hot peds surgeon.
Arizona didn't realize she was smiling her full blown "super magic smile" until the heat rushed to her face. Was she blushing? Was Callie flirting?
Me: It's not hideous! Hot Peds surgeon eh?
C: Smokin' and keep tellin' yourself that Roller Girl!
Callie found herself sitting in her own driveway displaying a huge toothy grin enjoying the banter between her and her ex-wife. What am I doing? I am sitting in my own driveway, exhausted as hell from being on the phone all night for the past two days and flirting with my ex-wife. She started it; Callie had convinced herself. She full named me. Only Arizona Robbins and her dad could full name her and live to talk about it. Arizona sure as hell knew when and how to say her name. Shit! I just called her Roller Girl! Now what the hell do I do?
A: Bailey has a heart attack every time I wear them! Bet she won't miss that.
The brunette's breath hitched a little as she read those words. She still wears them? Callie closed her eyes as memories of that bittersweet night flooded her mind. 'You shouldn't have to give up anything.' How long did we spend outside laughing and reminiscing and just enjoying each other as she re-learned to do something as simple as skate? How could I have not thought about how much those shoes meant to her? The thought of Arizona pre- or post-amputation rolling through the halls on those ridiculous wheely-sneaks brought thoughts and feelings Callie didn't care to explore. Okay, Torres, bring it back.
Me: What else did Bailey say?
A: Little did she know it would be one of the greatest honors she's ever had to get to work along-side me .
Me: Bailey?
A: I know right? Must have caught her on a good day. So, the wedding is a week from Saturday in the morning, our flight is scheduled for 4:00 pm that afternoon.
Me: Really? That soon?
A: Really!
Me: Can I say I am getting excited?
A: Of course, you can . But that means I can say it too.
Feeling a little glow now, the Latina decided to let it stay at that. Smiling her full-blown million-dollar smile, she said goodnight and headed into the house.
Me: Goodnight Arizona
A: Goodnight Callie
