As they quickly approached the wall, Evora started to notice something in the distance, very close to the infamous gap in the Wall. She felt herself tense up as she recognised the old yellow wagon coming into view.
"Woah, Scout!" She called out to her horse, pulling the reins back. As the horse came to a halt, she jumped off to inspect the scene before them. Septimus followed her down from the horse as they looked at a freshly burning slihuolte sp of body sringed sp in the grass.
"It can't be" whispered Evora as she looked down at the marking.
"What is it, Evora? We need to keep moving" Questioned Septimus
Evora ran round to the back of the wagon to look inside, in hope of finding her friend.
"Una!" She called and was instantly disappointed to find an empty wagon.
"Evora!" Called Septimus as he followed her "What did you just say?"
"This wagon, I know it. This is the witch who kidnapped my friend" she explained to him as she darted around looking for any clues. Septimus reached out for her arm with some sort of urgency as he asked "What did you say her name was?"
Evora looked at him in confusion as she answered "Una..."
"My sister" he mumbled with his eyes widening.
"Wait, Una is your sister?" Evora's jaw dropped "You can't be serious"
Septimus simply nodded in response.
"So that's what happened to her" he mumbled looking as though old wounds had reopened.
"Septimus, it wasn't your fault" she tried to make him feel better.
"I shouldn't of let her go out alone" he looked down, almost boyishly.
"She never blamed you though" explained Evora "She only ever spoke fondly of you"
"You both spoke of me?" He asked
"Well, she did. Come to think of it, she never said your name or maybe the curse didn't allow me to hear it. But she always lit up when she spoke of you" explained Evora
"I'm glad that in all this, you both had each other for a short time" sighed Septimus
Evora couldn't believe what she was hearing, the friend she had made and then cruelly parted from, much similar to what had happened with Septimus were brother and sister. She thought of the second spell that Zorina had besotted sp upon her before her death, that she would never be able to find Una whilst Ditchwater Sal lived. However now she was dead, she would be able to and it looked like poor Una had been caught up in the scene before them as she looked at the fresh carriage marks heading away from thr wagon. This mission had seemed to have gotten more complicated.
"Let's go rescue her" nodded Evora
Evora and Septimus reached the deep crater in the land where they saw large black mansion built into the side, almost disguising its existence. Evora felt annoyed with herself that she had never found it before.
"Septimus, what's our plan here?" Asked Evora, feeling somewhat nervous as they rode towards the mansion.
"Let's tie Scout up and then get a closer look" he suggested, he couldn't help but tighten his grip around her for reassurance.
The pair got down from her horse and looked at each other, they both went to speak at the same time and smiled with an awkward chuckle.
"After you" offered Evora
"Evora, please don't do anything reckless" pleaded Septimus
Evora raised her eyebrows at him "I could say the same to you"
"I know you've been waiting for this for a long time, take your time to assess the situation" he explained further "I can't let anything happen to you again"
"I will finish this, Septimus. I need to" she answered "And what of you? What's your price?"
"You know our answers are the same" said Septimus "But we can do this together"
Evora reached out to him but Septimus pulled her into him for a meaningful embrace, she felt his worry go through her as she returned the feeling. Septimus kissed her on the forehead and looked down at her and whispered "You were always the one"
Evora looked up at him, not catching what he had whispered but she could see something different in the look of his eyes. Evora suddenly jumped as she saw someone approaching from behind them.
"Septimus! Take cover!" She exclaimed as she pushed him out of view, following him behind a pillar. They both peered around as the person came to a stop not too far from them.
"It's just a boy, what could he want here?" Evora whispered as she looked at the young man in a crisp white jacket, armed with a sword and dagger so clearly he was here for some purpose too.
"Let's go find out" replied Septimus as he strolled out towards the boy who was peering through the windows. Evora's cheeks went red with anger as she watched Septimus approach the boy, they wasn't even inside yet and he was the one already being reckless.
Evora watched as Septimus put his dagger towards the boy's throat and exchange with him. She saw the boy reach for his side hodal where he reach for his own knife. Evora didn't hesitate and run towards them both, kicking the dagger out of the shocked boy's hands.
"Evora, it looks like we've got some extra help" said Septimus cooly whilst the boy recovered.
"Wait, how do I know I can trust you?" Asked the boy looking at them both.
"You don't. Why do you have a choice?" Replied Septimus
"No..." muttered the boy.
"What's your business here...?" Evora raised her eyebrow, not willing to be sp trusting.
"I'm Tristan" he answered her "I'm here to rescue her" and he pointed a girl in a dark navy dress being strapped to the table. That's when Evora saw the much aged sisters for the first time in twenty years, her blood felt as though it was boiling as she tighten her thrists. Her attention turned back to Tristan for a moment as she asked "You want the Star?"
"Wait, you want the Star?" Frowned Septimus who had his own ideas for the Star. It was Evora's turn to frown at the Prince as she said "Let's sort one issue at a time, Septimus"
Tristan confused at the exchange between them, nervously answered "It's a long story but Yvaine is my true love"
"Wait, who is Yvonne?" Asked Septimus
"Yvaine" corrected Tristan
"The Star!" Exclaimed Evora as she rolled her eyes and then smiled at Tristan "That's very sweet and noble to come to her rescue but do you know what your up against?"
Tristan peered through the window looking nervous and nodded as he removed his sword from his belt to get ready.
"Right, let's go" ordered Septimus as he went rushing to open the front door.
"Septimus!" Called Evora as she went rushing in behind him. This was it.
Septimus went running into the mansion first, grabbing the first person he came to, pushing her down and pulling his sword up to lunge into her without a second thought.
He suddenly stopped and his position ease as he whispered "Una?"
"Septimus!" She replied breathlessly and in amazement that her youngest brother was before her.
Evora ran into the scene and saw Una as she exclaimed "Una!"
The women looked at each other in astonishment, after all these years they had found each other again. Una jumped off the bed she had been pushed down on by her unsuspecting brother and rushed towards Evora.
"Evora, I can't believe it!" Cried Una
"I promised I would find you" smiled Evora as she pulled her in for a quick embrace.
The scene was unfolding so quickly before them that they had no time as Evora watched the meekest sp of the three witches blast flames over Septimus.
"Una, get out of here!" Evora exclaimed as she pushed her friend towards the door where Una spotted Tristan hiding and went towards him instead.
Septimus frantically patted the flames all over him as Evora ran towards him. She watched as the witches laughed in amusement at inflicting pain, something they seemed to enjoy immensely much to Evora's disgust.
"Septimus!" Evora called out, he looked towards her as she threw her sword over to him, knowing the salt that ran through the blade would take any of these witches down.
Septimus caught the sword and as the witches continued to chankle sp, he lifted the sword high in the air and threw it with such a force that it hit in the small witch dead centre in her chest, pushing her up against the wall. Evora heard the witch's heart fizzle out and felt satisfied. The remaining two witches immediately stopped laughing and looked deadly once more. Evora saw Lamia, the one she wanted to get her hands on the most, order her other sister about. She saw the other sister nod in agreement and heavily ran across the balcony.
Evora ran towards the dead witch's corpse and pulled out her sword, leaving the body to collapse onto the floor. At that moment, the other witch jumped down from the balcony before her, only a mere few inches away. Evora looked over to Septimus who was also picking up his now cooled sword from the ground. He quickly glanced over to Evora and gave a small nod before heading towards Lamia.
"Septimus, no!" Evora called out and went towards him but the other witch pulled out her hands and sparks flew out towards Evora making her shoot back into some cages holding wild animals, hitting the back of her head hard on the bars.
As she stood up quickly, she felt her head spin with dizziness from the blow. Evora then was alerted by a cracking noise and Septimus yelping out in pain. Her heart pounded as she tried to run towards him, completely forgetting about the other witch in a rush of emotion, something she never had to think about in a fight before. The witch grabbed hold of Evora forcefully, her hands radiating small shocks through Evora's body, making her feel almost paralysed. Evora watched in horror as she looked towards Lamia who was holding a small clay doll and understood the grave situation immediately as Lamia then pulled the other leg as they all heard the other cracking sound coming from Septimus's leg as he shouted out in pain.
"Septimus!" Evora cried out. The Prince managed to turn and look towards her, his eyes looked as though they were saying sorry to her.
"Let's put out those flames, shall we?" Lamia smiled with no ounce of guilt in her twisted face as she smuggly dropped the doll in the fountain water below her.
"Septimus!" Cried Evora as she struggled from the witch as she watched her friend move into the air, as though he was under water. Evora with all her force pulled herself from the witch and pushed her into the cages, making Evora able to unleash her sword and she hit the chains of the cages open to allow the frantic animals out of their cages and attack one of their tormentors. Evora heard the animals savagely attacking the witch by her screams as she ran towards the fountain, Septimus still struggling to breathe mid air.
Lamia saw her running towards the fountain, angered by the killing of her other sister, held out her finger and blasted magic towards Evora sending her flying back.
As Evora laid on her back, she heard the thud of Septimus's lifeless body land a few inches away. She made her way over to him as she shook him fiercely as she cried "Wake up, Septimus. This can't be your end"
Evora looked at his face, he looked almost peaceful laying there as the faces of her family murdered long ago rushed through her memory. How could this be happening again?
"Please, please, please. Don't leave me" she cried as she buried her head into his chest, almost forgetting the scene around her as she felt her heart breaking into pieces uncertain if she could ever recover from another heartbreak. But this one felt different.
Meanwhile Tristan had finally made his move, much to the Star's joy as she glowed at the sight of him. Lamia sighed to herself as she moved towards the boy, coming down the stairs for the first time. Evora looked up, spotting the witch so close as she tried to blast her magic onto Tristan who had a magical charm to stop any harm from magic coming towards him. Evora recognised the snowdrop from the ones she and Una had to sell on the stalls.
Lamia had other ideas as she found the loophole to the charm and attacked the poor boy with objects instead. Evora shot to her feet, unable to witness any more heartbreak today as she ran towards Tristan to help him to his feet.
"Thank you" he breathed as Evora noted the hodal on his back as she asked "What's in that?"
"Lightning!" Exclaimed Tristan as he pulled it from his back.
"Perfect, crack it open then!" Ordered Evora as she stood besides him. This was clearly his first fight as he clumsily opened the hodal as the lightning bolts escaped everywhere but Evora grabbed hold of the holdal to help him control the last few remaining bolts to hit Lamia directly sending her flying towards the fountain. Tristan and Evora nodded at each other in thanks and then looked at over at the witch who was struggling to get back up.
"I'm sorry about Septimus" he mumbled, noting Evora's wet cheeks. Evora wiped her eyes and replied "No more heartbreaks today, let's go save your Star"
Lamia then reached into the water and grabbed hold of the clay doll. Tristan and Evora heard movement from behind them and turned with their swords ready. They looked down to the ground and saw Septimus rising from the floor.
"Septimus?" Tristan looked confused.
Evora turned to Lamia who was walking up the stairs to the Star as she controlled the clay doll. She turned back and it hurt her heart to see Septimus's lifeless body being used as a weapon against them as he drew the sword towards them and started to swing it towards them, his cold stiff joints clicking with every movement.
Tristan blocked the first hit, stabbing his body through the chest and it couldn't help but make Evora feel uneasy.
"It's not him anymore, Evora" Tristan reassured her and she knew he was right, this was merely a shell of the man he was.
Evora nodded and replied "Tristan, go save your Star. I can handle this"
Tristan nodded and ran towards the side of room, slipping onto the floor as he did so, he was unusually clumsy thought Evora.
Septimus's body came towards her with the sword in his hand swinging in a high speed as she tried to block all the blows that were coming from all angles.
Evora turned to see Tristan trying to help, cutting the ropes to the large chandilers sp as they came crashing down around them.
"Tristan! The one on the right!" Shouted Evora but as she turned back to Septimus she hadn't realised how close he had got to her as he plunged the sword deep into her stomach.
The world around her went still, she could of sworn she almost heard Septimus shout her name. Evora fell to the ground, she held onto her stomach as she saw the blood rush out warmly over her hand.
Evora saw the lifeless body of Septimus fall next to her as Tristan made his way towards Lamia, she hoped with everything that he could win this fight. She felt regret that she didn't get to finish the witch off herself to avenge her family and now Septimus, the only thing she could hope for now was justice for them all.
Her breathing got more laboured as she laid on the hard ground, she reached around and then managed to get what she was after. Evora held onto Septimus's cold hand, trying to remember the warmth that once flowed through it and how it would bring comfort to her as it was now.
Evora hadn't noticed the chaos happening around her until Tristan and the Star, Yvaine ran towards her, kneeling next to her.
"Tristan, if she holds onto me I can get her through this but I'm not sure she will survive that wound" explained Yvaine, trying to be sensitive of the situation.
"We have to try!" Replied Tristan as he looked behind him to see Lamia coming towards them.
Evora shook her head at them as she breathed "Please, let me go"
"But..." Tristan tried to protest but Evora carried on shaking her head as she added "It's too late for me, but it isn't for you two. Please"
Tristan and Yvaine nodded as they smiled sympathifictly and stood back up as Yvaine pulled Tristan close and told him "Hold me tight and close your eyes"
"What, why?" Questioned Tristan
They both embraced as the Star whispered to him "What do Star's do? Shine!"
Evora felt herself smile as the room lit up into an incredible brightness as she held on tightly to Septimus's hand. Whatever was about to happen, she hoped that he would be waiting for her along with her family.
She then looked over towards Lamia who confused at first by the light and then began to fear the light as she seemed to have exploded into a thousands pieces, finally Lamia was taken from this world. Evora knew that she could rest easy as the bright shine consumed her till she could see nothing but pure light.
