Chapter One

Kagome gave a light hum as she watched Aoi gather up her school items around the house, they had time still before the two of them were due for class. The two of them went to the same collage. Kagome had met the young woman at the end of highschool. She had learned to keep to herself after everything that had happened in the Feudal Era. She kept things close to her because other humans just didn't understand her anymore.

Kagome and the others had finished the jewel and with it she completed her journey. . She got to say her goodbyes, tearfully. She didn't regret her time with any of them, no matter how many times Inuyasha tended to piss her off. Kagome would miss all of them. She had ended back in the present with knowledge of demon kind. Their customs are her own and not mixing well with other humans at times. There weren't any demons around that she stayed in contact with, and the sprites and demons she saw around tended to be more shy so she didn't approach them much.

That had all changed when she met Aoi Tsubaki. A girl with a gift to see spirits. It was a breath of fresh air for her. She hadn't met anyone in her time that could see the thing she could. Kagome gained a new friend that day. Someone who was there for her when her life started to fall apart. A person who smiled and helped her when she got into depressive moments when she thought of the past too much. Or thought of her family that moved away to America to help Souta pursue his budding soccer career.

Kagome was grateful for Aoi. Sometimes she wondered though, if she should go find her friends from the past. The people she viewed as family. She hadn't tried to search all of Japan for them, mostly due to the fact that if they weren't here anymore it would completely break her.

"Are you ready to head out?" Kagome was snapped out of her thoughts when Aoi spoke softly, having slung her bag strap over her shoulder so it fell at her side.

"I am." Kagome gave her a smile, as she followed Aoi out of the house. Aoi locked the house and the two were off.

"You seem a bit stressed." Kagome spoke after a few minutes of silence. She had noticed Aoi had looked a bit more tired than normal. Maybe the girl was overworking herself with studying. Kagome didn't know what was going on with the girl the last couple of days.

"It's probably nothing. I just have had a feeling something is going to happen the last couple days. It has made sleeping a bit more difficult." Aoi ruffled a hand through her hair, a tired smile on her face.

Kagome wanted to say more, but refrained. She didn't want to push too much. She knew she could worry too much about people she was close to. It was a habit she had for years and didn't see herself stopping anytime soon.

"If you say so..." She was cut off as they were walking down a long street of Sakura blossom trees. Off to the side both of them could see a handful of Kappa. Kagome's lip twitched seeing all the Kappa start making their way towards them. Aoi looked around trying to make sure no one was watching.

"I will feed them" Kagome laughed, opening her bag to grab a small bento box that was filled with sliced cucumbers and rice balls. Kagome made her way over to the small creatures and bent down, smoothing her skirt out and tucking it under so she wouldn't flash anymore as she crouch down to the Kappa's level.

"Here you guys go." Kagome whispered, and eyes shining seeing the happiness in all the Kappa's eyes. Spirits and demons seemed to have a hard time finding food Kagome learned. It was something that hurt her to see. She watched the Kappa eat quickly, muttering thanks to her as they did so.

Looking behind her Kagome was expecting Aoi to come and join her, but she was standing at an entrance of a shrine holding out a bento box to what looked like another demon. He wore a mask, and old fashioned clothes she was used to seeing in the Feudal Era.

"Leave the lunch box somewhere when you guys are done, okay?" Kagome told the little Kappa who all nodded, replying they would do so. They were all sweet and she thought they were adorable.

Standing up Kagome made her way over to Aoi, who was turning away from the demon, who was watching Aoi carefully.

"Just leave the lunch box somewhere so I can pick it up after class." Aoi told the demon, who didn't say a word just looked at the bento box that was now in his clawed hands.

"Aoi..." Kagome spoke, catching the attention of both figures in front of her. Her blue eyes narrowed in on the demon who was giving off a powerful aura. She knew this demon wasn't an ordinary one, she just didn't understand why he was here.

"Are you ready to go, we are going to be late for class." Kagome's eyes glanced away from the demon and Aoi who gave a nod and started walking away from the shrine stairs. He opened the food container, moving his mask and taking a bite of the food.

"Thank you." He paused, eyes catching Kagome's who was watching his every move, "The food is delicious, Aoi Tsubaki." The feeling of panic went into Kagome but she didn't say anything and made her way behind her friend...all the while wondering how the demon knew her friend's name.

X-x-x-x

"Aoi, you really should be more careful when it comes to whom you offer food to." Her voice was low as they exited the college, their day finally over. Their encounter with that powerful demon earlier had been eating away at her, the way he said Aoi's name put her on edge. Maybe she was biased due to her past with powerful demons kidnapping her left and right but it was well placed caution in her opinion.

Aoi sighed as she adjusted her bag on her shoulder. She knew Kagome meant well but sometimes she was far too distrustful of people. She knew it had to do with her past, which they had briefly talked about, but she had never pried too deeply out of respect for the slightly older woman who had been teaching her how to deal with her sight. Now that her grandfather was gone Kagome really was the only one left who understood her and could help her understand why she could see things others could not.

"Look, I know you mean well but if someone is hungry I won't let them starve. Not if I can help them. I know what it's like to feel that painful hunger." Her words might have been a bit sharper then she had intended but to her relief Kagome merely gave a small noise of agreement.

"I know Aoi, I just worry. Not all have good intentions, just like humans. Just please promise me you'll use caution and never accept anything in payment. They could hold it over you." This was hard learned on her end. If anything she could use her past mistakes to protect Aoi from making the same ones.

Aoi gave a small smile as she nodded her head. "Okay, well let's go see if they left our bento's. I really don't want to have to buy another set." They both gave small chuckles, some demons took the bento's with them, probably to sell or trade with other demons. Either way they made it a habit to stock up on bento cases from the local corner store.

Kagome smiled as she found her small blue and green bento hidden in a bush. Next to it was a small thank you scribbled in the dirt. Shoving the bento into her bag she made her way to Aoi, a small frown as she saw the younger girl pick up her bento, on top of it was a small hair pin and an odd parchment that practically radiated power. Dread settled in her stomach as Aoi held the bento in one hand and the two new items in another. What the hell had she just told the other girl!?

Anger was shoved down by fear as a small pulse of power made the air around them ripple.

"Aoi!" Her feet pounded on the pavement as Aoi opened the parchment and a larger pulse of power exploded around her small frame as magic sparked to life. Teeth grit she ran forward, her fingers catching the back of Aoi's shirt as they were pulled into a whirlwind of power and flower petals, the achingly familiar pull of falling through dimensions crashing over her like a wave.

Pulling her back down the rabbit hole.
