Before going to see her patient, Arizona thought it would be best to stop into the attending's lounge on the second floor and clean herself up after her unexpected, but extremely hot encounter with Callie in the conference room. Looking down at herself, she decided to change into scrubs, which would be far more appropriate to see patients and more comfortable to run errands than the skirt and blouse she had on, especially considering she was sans panties. She had to remember to bring a few spare outfits to keep in her office in case…well, in case her girlfriend decided to take her up against a door in the heat of the moment and rip her underwear to shreds, for one. But also, in case she didn't have time or energy to go home to change if she needed to go somewhere after a long day of working. Slipping on the black scrubs, she smiled as she realized Callie probably picked this color for attendings thinking it looked badass, which she had to admit, on the ortho goddess it did. It was odd for her to see everyone in different colored scrubs, and she was still trying to figure out what position they held because she was still so accustomed to the scrub colors at Grey-Sloan. Obviously black was for attendings and dark grey for residents; Maria and the nurses were in royal blue, and the lab techs wore light green. Lorraine, not being a part of the medical staff, wore her own clothes and always looked nice and professional. It occurred to her just then that she would have to sit down with Nicole and figure out their own colors of scrubs and she got a little thrill as she realized she could pick bright and cheery colors. Thinking of everything they had to do was daunting, but finding these little fun things was helping her to stay excited about everything. After checking herself in the mirror, Arizona looked around, found an empty locker in which to store her clothes, and headed up to see Julie.
Approaching the patient's room, Arizona couldn't help but overhear the conversation taking place inside. "I feel so bad Jules, everyone is being so nice. Dr. Torres has been paying for our lunches and snacks and Ms. Lorraine has helped me so much, she even bought me a Metro Card so I could come see you every day. I just wish I could repay her, she's such a sweet lady. But I can't even get a job. It's not like anyone will hire me with a cast on my arm." This sentiment obviously came from Kim who apparently was starting to feel down about her situation. If the accident hadn't happened, both girls would be away at camp right now participating in job training to help prepare for their futures. Getting an idea of how they may be able to help the young woman out, Arizona decided to think about it a little more and talk it over with Callie to see what she thought. Acting as if she just arrived, Arizona walked into the room with a big smile on her face and greeted, "Well good morning, how are my favorite patients?" Both girls smiled up at the blonde surgeon and Julie greeted, "I already feel better knowing you're here." Arizona's face softened as she went to the side of the bed and said, "I came up as soon as Lorraine told me you asked for me." She then looked at Kim and asked, "Do you still have that card Dr. Torres gave you?" Kim nodded and pulled it out of the worn backpack she had sitting beside her holding it up to prove she still had it. Arizona held out her hand for the card and asked, "Do you happen to have a pen in your magic bag?" Kim giggled and reached in to pull out a pen and handed it over as well. Arizona turned the card over and wrote her cell phone number on the back while saying to Julie, "This is my cell number, you call me anytime you need to, either of you." Thinking about how paranoid Callie was during the first weeks of her pregnancy, she added, "Carrying a tiny human inside you can be kind of scary, especially if you're laid up in a hospital bed and don't have much else to think about." She passed the card and pen back to Kim who looked at it, scrunched her nose up, and observed, "This doesn't look like a New York number." Arizona gasped as the thought just occurred to her, "Oh my goodness, you're right, it's not. I just moved from Seattle recently and I haven't even thought about the fact that I would need to change it. Thank you for pointing that out." The girl nodded and put the card on the bedside table for her friend.
Lowering the railing on the bed, Arizona prodded, "Tell me what's been going on." As she checked the young blonde's pulse and palpated her abdomen, Arizona already had an idea of what the problem was but waited for her patient to describe her symptoms. Julie tensed as the doctor touched on a particularly sensitive area and said, "I just don't feel hungry, the thought of eating anything makes me sick, and I have these cramps right there where you were touching. Is it my baby? Is the baby okay?" The blonde surgeon smiled at the concern the young mother was showing for her baby and answered, "I am pretty sure I know what's going on, but I am going to have a nurse bring in an ultrasound machine so we can take a look. I'd like to do a more thorough exam on you both now that you are awake and baby is active. How does that sound?" Julie nodded and responded, "I'd like that. Do you think…um, can you tell…ah what my baby is? If it's a boy or a girl?" Arizona already knew the answer to that question but has learned never to divulge the gender unless she was directly asked, but she also knew how much it meant for a mother to find out during the scan so she answered, "You're at just under 18 weeks, so if baby cooperates, we should be able to tell today." Both girls sat up and smiled excitedly at the idea of knowing what the older girl was having. Sitting in the empty chair beside the bed, Arizona asked, "Other than the cramps, how's your pain?" Julie nodded, "I've had quite a bit of pain and I haven't been sleeping so well." Arizona recorded some notes in the tablet and responded, "Dr. Torres had a meeting earlier so she's a little behind on rounds. Would you like me to page her for you?" She no sooner finished her sentence when the woman in question appeared in the door and greeted, "Hey there, did I hear my name?" All three occupants in the room smiled at the brunette surgeon as she backed through the door with a cart containing the ultrasound equipment Arizona was just about to request. Arizona noticed that Callie hadn't changed her outfit but had donned her white coat and now both her shirt sleeves and her coat sleeves were rolled to her elbows. Just the sight sent a shiver down her spine. She smiled and replied, "Hello Dr. Torres, I was just asking Julie if she needed me to page you, she's feeling quite a bit of pain." Callie turned and smirked as she saw Arizona was now wearing scrubs and said, "Well let's take a look at everything and see if we can't ease that up for you."
Pushing the cart next to the bed, Callie turned to Julie and explained, "I figured Dr. Robbins would want to take a closer look to see what's causing you pain and check on baby and I use this same machine to check the blood flow in your legs and take a cursory look to make sure the rods and pins held your femur in place. I don't want to do any more scans than I have to since you are pregnant, so as long as everything looks good here, we can avoid all that." Julie nodded and asked, "So this is all safe?" Both surgeons nodded and Callie explained, "This is perfectly safe for both you and the baby." Julie smiled, then looked to both surgeons and asked, "Can we check the baby first?" At Callie's nod, Arizona walked over to the cart Callie had just wheeled in to familiarize herself with the equipment and couldn't believe what she was staring at. She didn't know if she should gloat or be highly irritated at the other surgeon. The only thing she could think in that moment was how lucky her girlfriend was that there were other people in the room because she was surely going to get full named the minute they walked out of this room.
Callie carefully watched Arizona who was examining the machine, no doubt preparing to acquaint herself with the unfamiliar technology, but there was no need. This was the upgraded version of the same machine the fetal surgeon worked with in Seattle. She knew because she, along with the rest of the board, had to approve the purchase of the state of the art technology. Of course at that time, she was still bitter with her ex-wife for choosing this specialty and gave her a hard time about it asking what was wrong with the equipment they had and making her prove the purchase was necessary both financially and medically speaking. In retrospect, she was kind of a bitch about it. In the end, she gave in because it was what was best for patients and damn if the infuriating woman didn't have a solid, well researched answer for every argument she had. Looking back now, she realized it was because Arizona knew her so well and was prepared for her to fight her on it. But sure enough, when the time came for her to equip her own facility, she bought a few of the same or upgraded models of much of what they had in Seattle because they were so powerful and accurate, just like the other surgeon insisted they would be. Though she didn't use it much for pregnant patients, like she explained to Julie, there were several other uses for an ultrasound machine. She bit back her laugh at the self-satisfied look on her girlfriend's face as she turned to her and stated with just enough sarcasm for her alone to pick up on, "Wow Dr. Torres, this machine is truly impressive, you must have done a great deal of research before deciding on this one." Callie bit her bottom lip trying not to smile as she responded, "It actually came highly recommended from a former colleague of mine and I couldn't help but purchase it." Arizona rolled her eyes, shook her head, walked to the door to sanitize her hands, grabbed a pair of gloves and snapped them on as she prepared to examine her patient. Her girlfriend was so going to hear about this.
Arizona went through her normal routine of warning the patient about the gel, moving the wand around to spread the cool liquid, examining the fetus, quietly checking for movement, heartbeat, and any abnormalities before turning the monitor to the expectant mother and pointing out, "There's your baby." She smiled as she heard both girls…make that both girls and the ortho surgeon, gasp as they looked at the tiny little human on the monitor. This was always her favorite part, especially early in the pregnancy. She loved being able to introduce parents to their child for the first time, even if there was a problem with the pregnancy, just seeing that precious little life made everything so real, so worth it. She turned up the volume on the machine and as the strong whooshing sound filled the room, blue eyes locked on brown and they both knew the other's mind went back to the first time they heard Sofia's heartbeat and realized they were actually going to be parents. Turning to her patient, she could see the same awe in Julie's eyes that she felt that day, she also recognized the fear that soon followed. She saw it in every set of eyes she looked into and to this day, it never got old and it never didn't remind her of her own daughter, both of her children…the heartbeat she heard and the one she didn't hear as well. Arizona continued clicking, pushed down slightly and smiled when she got what she wanted and the little tiny legs opened wide showing the world the gender that would be assigned at birth, though she was certain she was the only one in the room who could tell. Pushing a few buttons, she took the measurements she needed, printed some pictures, made a recording of the heartbeat and finally asked, "Are you sure you want to know the gender?" At Julie's tearful smile and frantic nod she said, "Well then, meet your son." Julie brought both hands to her mouth and asked, "A boy? I'm having a boy?" Arizona nodded and confirmed, "You are." At this, the young woman burst into tears and started sobbing.
Callie stood at the foot of the bed and watched as Arizona started to examine their patient. She realized this was actually the first time she has seen the other woman perform the duties of a fetal surgeon. She was still too bitter when she lived in Seattle and the other night in the O.R., she was so shaken from the news that her patient was pregnant, she was almost on autopilot and didn't fully appreciate the moment. She studied Arizona's face as she focused on the patient, it was void of all expression save a soft smile she knew was there to reassure the expectant mother who was clearly nervous at this moment. She watched as blue eyes darted from patient to monitor as her steady hand expertly moved the ultrasound wand across the protruding baby bump stopping periodically to read the monitor and push a button with the other hand. Being an expert at reading those amazing blue eyes, she caught every subtlety, every emotion, and in that instance, what stood out more than anything was the pure joy the other woman was feeling. Joy at doing what she loved, excitement over sharing this special moment with a new mother as she just showed the girl her baby, and as their eyes connected, sweet memories of seeing her own daughter, hearing her heartbeat for the first time and then…pain, brief and fleeting, but it was there, the anguish felt for a heartbeat they never got to hear. Callie shook her head and wondered if this happened every time Arizona did an ultrasound or if it was just because she was in the room. Knowing now how much the loss truly affected Arizona, she was almost certain it happened every time. As she watched the fetal surgeon continue to peck at the keyboard, her own words spoken just days ago finally hit her, the truth of them rang through her mind and her heart as it actually set in. Arizona was doing this, chose this fellowship, this specialty because of her children, the one she saved and the one she couldn't. Arizona knew the pain of loss and what it could do to a person, how it could destroy a marriage and she was determined not to let that happen to anyone else. It was that determination, her inability to communicate it, and Callie's unwillingness to see it for what it really was that drove the final nail in the coffin of their marriage. She had no idea if anything would have changed if just one thing was different, but like Arizona said yesterday, they couldn't live in the past, they couldn't hold onto anger, even at themselves. They have a whole new life ahead of them and that's where she needed to focus her energy. She snapped out of her revery just as she heard, "Well then, meet your son." Then as she looked at the young girl in the bed, watery dark blue eyes, straight ash-blonde hair, one dimpled cheek, she had a whole different vision. The image morphed, Arizona sat in that bed holding a chubby baby boy with unruly white blonde curls standing up all over his head and chubby little cheeks dimpling as he looked up at her with shining cerulean blue eyes…meet your son. She no sooner had that thought when it disappeared as she heard the sobbing coming from the girl in front of her. Something for which she was very grateful, she knew she couldn't go down that road…she wouldn't.
Both surgeons moved to either side of the young girl and tried to soothe her as she sobbed, "I can't…a boy…a baby, a real baby. But I live in a group home, I don't have a job, I don't have a family…I don't…I…oh God." Arizona sat on the bed and held the girl's hand trying to calm her as Callie stood on the other side softly caressing the girl's hair saying, "Shhh, it's okay sweetie. You've got time. I know it's scary right now, but there's time to figure it all out." At the taller doctor's low voice and calming words, Julie nodded her head and tried to slow her breathing. She knew this wasn't good for the baby, but she was so scared. She had no idea what she was going to do. She knew what she wanted to do, but she wasn't sure if she were strong enough for that. Taking a deep breath, she blew it out then looked to the nice surgeon with the beautiful smile and couldn't help but smile herself and asked, "He's okay though?" At Dr. Robbins' nod she asked, "Then why am I cramping?" The blonde smiled and answered, "Well, sometimes pain medicine like morphine can…ummm, can slow down your digestive system and your bowels…" Julie laughed and said, "Are you saying I have to poop?" Both surgeons laughed and Callie responded, "That's what she's saying." She then reached for the tablet on the end of the bed and tapped a couple things and explained, "I just ordered a stool softener, it's mild but when you feel it start working, bubbling in your belly, call a nurse because it will take a minute to get you situated on a bed pan or moved to the bathroom if you'd feel more comfortable there." Julie nodded and said, "I'd feel embarrassed about that if I wasn't so relieved that the baby was okay." Both surgeons nodded and the blonde answered, "It's extremely common. But I want you to promise me you will eat after you feel better." Julie nodded her head and said, "I will try to eat, I promise. Maybe something will sound good when my stomach doesn't hurt so bad." Arizona stood from the bed and responded, "Well, if something on the menu here doesn't sound good, you just give me a call and we will see what we can do okay?" The girl nodded and Arizona handed her a paper towel to clean herself up then said, "Here are the pictures of your baby. I'm going to leave you in Dr. Torres' capable hands. We won't need to do another ultrasound for several more weeks, but I will stop by soon just to check on you."
Arizona took off her gloves and turned to Callie and asked, "Dr. Torres, may I speak to you for a moment?" Callie nodded and indicated she would be right back then followed the blonde out of the room. As soon as they got far enough away from the room and any spectators, Arizona rounded on Callie and scolded, "Calliope Iphigenia Torres! You bought the same damn equipment you gave me hell for!" Callie knew she should look guilty, but in that moment, angry Arizona looked adorable and she laughed then reached out for the smaller woman only to have her hand slapped away which made her laugh even more making the blonde huff louder. Arizona hissed, "I can't believe you! You…you were so…mean!" She then bit her lip trying not to smile at the amused look on Callie's face. She couldn't figure out how the hell she was supposed to stay mad when Callie was smiling at her like that. Seeing Arizona wasn't really mad, Callie tried to reach out again and met a mild amount of resistance before the blonde gave in and let her pull her into her arms. Bending down for a kiss she was stopped by a hand being held in front of her as the blonde teased, "Tell me I was right." Callie reached up, wrapped her fingers around the small pale wrist, pulled it down, and said, "You were right, it is amazing, and you are awesome. Now can I please have my kiss?" Arizona smiled, leaned forward and in the last second brought her head up to kiss Callie on her nose. As she tried to pull away, she found herself backed against a wall. Giggling now, she finally gave in and allowed Callie to kiss her properly.
Stepping back, Callie looked her girlfriend up and down and said, "Nice scrubs." Arizona laughed and said, "Yeah well I couldn't very well go into a patient room in the state I was in when we last saw each other." Callie ogled her and shrugged then said, "I wouldn't have minded." Arizona rolled her eyes loving this fun playful side of Callie, and retorted, "Not while I was here, but do you want me going out and running my errands wearing a skirt and no panties?" Callie scowled and snapped, "Hell no!" Arizona grinned and said, "Remember that next time you go all primal on me." Callie stepped forward once again and growled, "Baby, you had me so turned on, the only thing I could think of was how fast I could be inside you." Arizona visibly shivered and brought her hand up to caress Callie's cheek as she responded, "It was hot! The only thing I could think of from the moment you slammed that folder down was putting my mouth on you." Callie groaned, lifted her hand to cover Arizona's and said, "I think we need to stop talking about this before I take you into the nearest closet and need to change into scrubs myself." Arizona leaned forward and brushed her lips against Callie's then dropped her hand and said, "While I really like that idea, I think you're right. You have a patient to get back to and there's actually something I wanted to talk to you about." Callie heard the serious tone and stepped back a little to be able to focus on what Arizona needed to discuss.
Taking a deep breath she said, "I heard Kim talking about needing a job and feeling bad about everything Lorraine has done for her and not being able to pay her back. I was thinking, they should have both been at that camp learning job skills and I was wondering if maybe between the two of us, we couldn't find something for her to do. Give her a job. That way she'd be close to Julie and could visit, but she'd also be learning job skills and making money." Callie smiled at her girlfriend's thoughtfulness and nodded excitedly as she declared, "I think that's a great idea. I know you'll have a lot of unpacking and organizing she could do and I am sure we can find something for her here. I'll talk to Lorraine and Maria and see if they can help me come up with something and we can talk to her tomorrow. How's that sound?" Arizona beamed at her girlfriend, put both hands on her cheeks and pulled her in for a smacking kiss then exclaimed, "You are amazing. Thank you." Callie said seriously, "No, you are amazing, thank you for thinking of it. So where are you headed?" Arizona lifted Callie's arm and looked at her watch then said, "I've got a couple of hours before I am supposed to meet Nicole at our building so I figured I would run over and measure the room I picked out for my office, stop by the office supply store for some of the essentials, maybe a couple of tables to use in the meantime, and Kim reminded me I don't have a New York number, and my carrier doesn't exist out here, so I am going to run to a phone store and see about getting a new phone." Arizona looked up to see Callie biting her lip and avoiding eye contact and knew she was wanting to say something.
Callie could see how Arizona was looking at her and knew she figured out there was something on her mind. The fiery brunette would be the first to admit she was still struggling with being patient and was constantly worried about overstepping when making suggestions. But this just seemed like the right time and it made more sense, and… Her internal debate was cut short when small hands tangled with her own and she heard Arizona's comforting voice prod, "Calliope, tell me what you're thinking so hard about." Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath, looked into patient blue eyes and explained, "It's umm…you can say no…but um, you were talking about getting a new phone and number, that means a new contract and it…I um…I was thinking how it um…it just makes sense and ah, would you like to maybe be on my phone plan?" Arizona stared at her dumbstruck. Was badass Callie Torres really this nervous and making all this fuss about a phone plan? Shaking her head and noticing the slight disappointment in nervous brown eyes, Arizona brought one of Callie's hands to her mouth and kissed the back of it as she observed, "We really did a number on each other. Yes, yes Callie, I would like to be on your phone plan." Arizona's heart melted at the beautiful smile that bloomed across full red lips and the sparkle that instantly came to dark chocolate eyes as the other woman asked excitedly, "Seriously?" The blonde couldn't help but laugh then responded, "Seriously Calliope. It makes perfect sense to just do it now while I am switching everything over then to get a new one and wait until one of our contracts are up." Callie smiled and teased, "It's an inevitability huh?"
Arizona decided to just lay her thoughts out there, it's not like they weren't both thinking it anyway. Squeezing Callie's hand, she declared, "We both know where this is headed Calliope and I don't want to pretend we don't and I don't want either of us to question if the other feels the same way, so yes, Callie, I want to be on your phone plan and we will continue to change these things over as they arise." Callie wasn't sure she could smile any bigger or have her heart feel as full as it did in this moment. She was so relieved that Arizona understood what she meant, that she was asking about more than just a phone plan, that she was asking about a future, about making moves toward ensuring a future together as a couple. She couldn't help herself; she wrapped her arms around Arizona's waist, picked her up, and twirled her around saying, "I love you Arizona Robbins." Arizona laughed and said, "Geez, if you're this happy about a phone plan, I can't wait till next week when I have to switch my car insurance over." She laughed when she was twirled again and said, "Put me down you goof! People are watching." Doing as she was asked, Callie put her girlfriend back on the ground careful of her prosthetic and making sure she had her balance, but kept her hands on her hips and said, "Let them watch. I'm not ashamed of how much I love you." Arizona smiled then pulled her in for a sensual kiss then said, "I will never be ashamed of this or you. I love you too. Now you need to get back to your patient and I need to go switch over to my girlfriend's phone plan. Info and passwords the same?" Callie nodded, "Of course. I'll text you the address of the carrier I use. Call me if there are any problems. Be safe, I'll see you soon." Arizona leaned in for one final kiss then turned toward the elevators.

As Arizona stepped onto the elevator, she held the door for the two people who were not so discreetly following behind her and called out, "Come on you two." When the nurse and the administrative assistant got on the elevator, both looking a little sheepish, Arizona smiled, pushed the button for the lobby, then when the car started moving, she pushed the emergency stop button and asked, "What took you so long? I seriously expected this talk long before now." Maria laughed and said, "I knew I liked you." Arizona laughed with her then asked, "Is that why you are about to threaten me within an inch of my life?" Lorraine chuckled then shook her head and said, "It's not like that, it's just…" She trailed off and looked to Maria to explain, "It's just, when I first met Cal, it took maybe an hour for her to mention you by name the first time. I was giving her a tour of the hospital and when we got to the peds ward, she said out of nowhere, 'Arizona would love the bright murals and patients' artwork all over the walls.' She told me all about how you always wanted to do that but the hospital wouldn't pay for it." Arizona smiled and tried to fight the tears that were threatening to fall. She did always want to have a bright and colorful ward, but the fact that Callie remembered that and shared it while touring her new hospital…living her new life, it meant a lot. Lorraine laughed and said, "Didn't take even an hour for me. I said 'Hi, I'm Lorraine' and she told me how…" Arizona cut in finishing, "How I wanted our next baby to have the middle name Lorraine after my favorite aunt." The older woman smiled and nodded and said, "That night you were brought to the hospital, I sat with her the whole night, listened to the stories about how you got together and how…well, how you fell apart." Arizona nodded sadly and just listened to the two women tell her further proof of how much Callie loved her, even when she hadn't realized it yet. "I held her as she cried, as she berated herself for making you get on a plane, for making everything so bad." Arizona nodded, she remembered parts of that night. Mostly she remembered how sweet and attentive Callie was, how much she seemed like the old Callie. But she wasn't sure at the time that it wasn't the medication or just wishful thinking that made her feel that way.
Maria cut in then with a sarcastic laugh and said, "You should have seen the shock on our faces a week after that when she told us how she and her girlfriend had been fighting nonstop since you left. We weren't surprised in the least that they were fighting or that they were fighting about you. We were surprised there was a girlfriend." Arizona gasped and asked, "You didn't know about Penny? But that would've been nearly a month after she moved here." Maria shook her head and said, "No, we didn't know about her, never met her. Didn't like her just on principal." Arizona furrowed her brow in confusion wondering why the two women felt that way. Lorraine piped up and said, "We'd been hearing stories about Arizona for a month and along with each of those stories came either a huge beaming smile or a sad tearful smile, but there was always a smile. A genuine smile. What's her face didn't even warrant a mention, but just thinking of you always lit up her face." Arizona swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded to show she was listening, but she couldn't talk at that moment or she would start crying in front of these two women who knew so much about her but were near strangers to her.
Maria took a deep breath and said, "Needless to say, neither of us were surprised by her revelation that she still loved you. We've watched her change and grow, even more so recently. But, since the day after you called, we've seen that smile grow bigger and brighter. It's gross actually, but when you got here and we saw your smile was the same for her and we've seen yours grow too, and the way you jumped in and took over the other day, for her, and just the way you love her, care for her, support her, even today. We just…we wanted you to know…she loves you the same way Robbins. So, just…keep smiling at her like that." The nurse then slapped the emergency button to make the elevator start up again and said, "Oh and if you are going to have sex every time you come over here, then I like vanilla lattes, not caramel." When the doors finally opened, she breathed a sigh of relief as if this talk was actually painful for her and walked away without saying another word. The older woman looked at Arizona and said, "You've both been through enough and we don't think you would come here and go through all this to hurt her. You won't get any threats from us, just know, you're one of us now Dr. R and we take care of our own." With that, the older woman walked away as well, leaving Arizona staring at the empty car asking aloud, "What the hell is it with hospitals and elevators?"

Callie walked back into Julie's room sanitizing her hands and grabbing gloves on her way in and said, "Sorry I took so long. How about we take a look at those legs, see about getting you something for pain, and I can answer any questions you have." At Julie's nod, Callie put on her gloves, unwrapped the bandages on both legs and examined the sutures. Satisfied there was only the normal redness and swelling, she looked up and explained, your stitches look good, though I will warn you, when they start to heal, they are really going to itch. We have some special cream for that, so just make sure you let somebody know." Callie then turned on the ultrasound machine and went through all the same motions as Arizona, only on the young woman's legs. When she was finished, she rewrapped her legs, smiled brightly and assured, "Everything looks great, some areas of the bone are already starting to fuse so we should be able to start you in physical therapy in a couple of days. Nothing two strenuous, just some exercises you can do from your bed to keep your muscles from atrophying. It's going to be a long road to recovery, but you will be as good as new by the time your baby boy comes." She could see the fear flash across the young woman's face and truly felt for her. Even though she had Arizona and Mark, there were times that she just wanted to be able to talk to her mom about…being a mom.
Trying to offer what comfort she could, Callie soothed, "I know this is a pretty scary time for you and I can't begin to know what you are feeling. I was in my 30's, had a career, and I was scared to death to do anything when I was pregnant." Both girls perked up and Kim asked, "You have kids?" Callie smiled just thinking of her daughter and said, "I do, Sofia, she's 8 now, she just moved back from Seattle. I'm sure if you stick around long enough, you'll see her running around here." Julie smiled proudly, looked at Kim, and exclaimed, "I knew it! I told you." Callie furrowed her brow in question and looked from one girl to the other waiting for an explanation. Finally Kim huffed, "Julie bet me you and Dr. Robbins were a thing." Callie arched her brow and asked, "What makes you think that?" Julie crossed her bandaged hands and answered, "Well, the way you look at each other and talk to each other it's pretty obvious. But Dr. Robbins gave us her cell number and Kim pointed out it wasn't a New York number and she said she just moved here from Seattle not too long ago and you said your daughter just moved back from Seattle." Callie laughed at her patient's reasoning skills and said, "You're quite the detective aren't you?" Julie nodded and asked, "So am I right?" Callie smirked and replied, "You would be correct." The blonde looked to her friend then gloated, "You owe me a Snickers!" Kim laughed and said, "Fine, tomorrow I'll bring your stupid Snickers." Callie laughed at the two girls then tapped on her tablet and said, "Dr. Robbins noted that you haven't been sleeping, so I've ordered you some pain meds and something to help you sleep. Both are safe for the baby, so no worries, okay?" Julie nodded and replied, "Thank you Dr. Torres." Callie nodded, left the room, and stopped by the nurse's desk to have someone get the ultrasound equipment out of the patient's room before continuing her rounds.

"So, you've officially had the grand tour, what do you think?" Arizona asked her new business partner as they returned to what was soon to be the lobby of the Robbins-Herman Center. Dr. Herman walked around the room with the assistance of her white cane, which she hated and didn't use often, but relied on in situations such as this to get a feel for a new environment. While she couldn't see any of the building they just visited, she had learned to use the cane and her other senses for a better idea of spatial awareness. For instance, she could tell by the acoustics that they were currently standing in a large open space with high ceilings and she assumed lots of windows because she could feel the warmth of the sun in almost every area of the room. While she would never say anything, it also helped that her type-A protégé described in great detail what everything currently looked like, what she envisioned for patient rooms, and what colors and decor she had in mind so that she could conjure a mental image of their new workplace. While it all sounded a little too perky for her taste, she didn't have to look at it and if she had to admit, it did sound soothing and inviting to worried expectant mothers. Finally turning to where she last heard movement, the former fetal surgeon said, "Well, I have to hand it to you, I am quite impressed Robbins, you got a lot of bang for our buck." Arizona slumped in relief, she loved the new facility and not just because Callie's center was mere yards away. When she first walked into Fresh START she couldn't help but hope they found something similar for their own center. But she knew if the other woman didn't like it, she would give her crap for wanting it just because Callie was close by.
Nicole heard the sigh of relief and couldn't help but add, "Speaking of banging, being this close to Torres isn't going to be a problem is it? I mean I don't care what you do, but I don't need to hear that lady lovin'." Arizona shook her head and scoffed; she should have known her tactless friend would make a comment. Deciding if she acted like it bothered her, the teasing would continue, Arizona took a page from her girlfriend's book of oversharing and retorted, "You don't need to worry about that Nicole, between on-call rooms and having a child, Callie and I have gotten really good at being quiet, in fact just this morning in the conference room…" She was cut off by the other woman who put her fingers in her ears and sang, "La la la la, okay, okay, I get it. Just, no mental images." The older woman smirked then stated, "Well, just in case, I think maybe the academic offices should be in one wing and the surgical offices in the other." Arizona chuckled and responded, "Actually, not for that reason, but I was thinking the same thing. I'd like to have all the offices here on the first floor and it would make sense to have each wing designated for a specific purpose. That auditorium at the end of the east wing would make a perfect lecture hall, one of the larger rooms could be a medical library and the other a conference room. That still leaves five smaller rooms on that side for offices." Nicole nodded and headed in the direction of the wing they were discussing in order to get a better idea spatially. Slowly making her way across the lobby, she suggested, "Let's walk through again and you can tell me what you're thinking for each floor." Arizona pulled out her ipad on which she had already recorded her ideas during one of her many walk- throughs and prepared to fight for what she wanted.
Two hours later, with only three minor disagreements which were quickly resolved, the two women sat at the small folding table Arizona purchased at the office supply store and finalized the layout of their new facility. Nicole's watch stated that it was 3:00 pm and she announced, "This seems like a good place to stop. My driver should be here any minute. My assistant will be with me tomorrow and I will have him call the candidates we've chosen for an administrative assistant and head nurse. Do you have a specific day in mind for interviews?" Arizona thought for a minute then looked at her calendar and said, "The office supply store said if I made the order today, they could deliver the table and chairs for the conference room by Thursday and they will put everything together for us. So Friday?" Nicole nodded and responded, "That sounds good. But what if they aren't able to deliver it?" Arizona furrowed her brow then answered, "If for some reason they don't pull through, I can ask Callie if we can use one of her offices or her conference room. We can still have the candidates come here, give them a tour, then walk across the parking lot for interviews." Nicole decided it wasn't such a bad thing to have a colleague so close, but chided, "They clean regularly over there right?" Arizona laughed and said, "Yes, they clean regularly." Then just to get the other woman going she added, "But just in case, don't lean against the door." The older woman howled with laughter and responded, "Robbins, I swear you have gotten a little spunkier since your fellowship." Arizona chuckled and replied, "I learned from the best." Nicole laughed and stood when she felt her watch vibrate, pushed a button and heard, "Hi, it's Paul, I'm just outside the front door." She smiled and said, "That's me. I'll be here tomorrow at 8:00 am and we can work on a plan for ordering. I'd like to get the first floor done as quickly as possible." Arizona agreed, "I think that's probably best especially since it's the first thing people will see. I'll walk you out, I need to run across the lot before I go pick up Sofia." She waited for a smart remark and when she got none, she pulled out her keys and headed toward the door with her business partner.
As she walked into the lobby, she was greeted with Lorraine's smiling face and couldn't help but wish she had her own Lorraine. Only half teasing she asked, "You don't happen to have a twin do you?" The older woman frowned and answered, "Not that I know of. Why do you ask?" Arizona answered, "I was just thinking about how I'd love to have someone like you running our place across the street." Lorraine blushed at the compliment; she really did like the fetal surgeon and wanted to help her out. Quickly running through her mental rolodex, someone popped into her mind and she said, "I don't have an actual twin, but I have a good friend who would be perfect and might be willing to leave her current position. She took my place when I left and the new chief over at NYU is a handful." Arizona smiled brightly and answered, "Oh that would be wonderful. Would you mind contacting her for me and asking her to send her resume to Callie? We are interviewing this week and would like to hire right away. We would allow her time to give her notice of course." Lorraine already had her phone in her hand and replied, "I'd be happy to. Oh! Dr. T and Maria got pulled into surgery. Dr. T asked me to tell you your phone is ready and please text her your new number right away and Maria asked if you wouldn't mind picking up Bella as both she and Miguel are tied up." Arizona started to nod then scrunched her brow and asked, "Miguel? As in Santos?" Lorraine laughed and nodded answering, "The very same." Arizona threw back her head and laughed, "Oh, those poor boys never had a chance." The older woman shook her head and said, "They didn't have a clue." Arizona looked up at the clock then said, "Well please tell both of them I will do as they asked, but I had better go if I want to get to the girls on time. Thank you for asking your friend for me. I'll see you tomorrow." Lorraine smiled and waved, "Goodbye Dr. R." Arizona waved and quickly made her way to her car and decided maybe she would take the girls out to dinner for a special treat.
