Chapter 9
It had been ten thousand years since Quincy saw an Asgard. Her memory of the race was much different than the small grayish body that was before her. The once mighty race was reduced to a shell of its former self. She gasped at the sight of Thor standing at the controls on his ship, the O'Neill upon being beamed aboard.
"Thor!" Quincy managed to get the name past her lips. She shook slightly at how drastic the Asgard had changed.
Thor cocked his head as he recalled the face before him. "Quincy! Daughter of Aeculap." He then looked upon SG-1 with Major Mitchell who were also beamed aboard the ship. "Colonel, SG-1." he greeted the team.
Cameron Mitchell whispered to Sam, "That's an Asgard?"
She nodded but remained silent as she held the box with the Panacea.
Jack spoke up. "You knew her father, Thor?" he asked.
"Indeed." he agreed. "He was helping the Asgard address our own medical issues in the early days. We were forced into cloning after he died and the Ancient's civilization collapsed." He then reported, "The Caduceus was the most advanced research vessel the Ancients had at the time. Aeculap was working on the Asgard problem on that vessel and likely left his research and notes behind on the vessel as well. Finding the ship would be of great help." He then asked, "How have you been all these years, Quincy?"
She shook the shock off and replied, "I've been good. Been living on Earth. How about you?" she then winced as she figured that was not a good reply considering the state of Asgard.
"I am stable." he reported. "For now! It's good to see you again." he replied fondly.
Jack asked, "You two know each other?"
"Indeed." Thor informed. "I was a young Asgard and my father ruled. Our fathers were good friends and partners. I knew Aeculap's family well. His five daughters were all very lovely. I was young and full of naivety and hope. Quincy and I were the same age and we associated often. I was given permission by both our fathers to court, Quincy. Then the virus hit and she left with her family. I never saw her again…until now."
Jack listened to the story and then it hit him. "Wait! You were seventeen and wanted to date Adams?"
"Indeed." he confessed.
Quincy rubbed her face with the palm of her hands. "Oh' Thor. I never thought you would suffer like this. The cloning preserved your mind but not your body. I'm glad we got to see each other once more."
Jack asked her a bit shocked, "You were dating Thor?"
"No!" she shook her head. "Thor and I are the same age. We were both teenagers back then. He asked permission from my father to court me but we never did because the virus hit and my family had to leave. That's when we came to Earth and lived on the city ship of Atlantis. I got sick, nearly died and my father saved me with the Panacea." She then addressed Thor, "Sam brought the Panacea with her for you to look at. It's in pieces."
Sam stepped forward with a small box in hand. "I got the device right here, Thor."
Thor replied, "I will have our technicians examine it further." He stepped out from behind the controls and Quincy got a better look at what became of his ravaged body. She winced upon seeing him so frail looking. He retrieved the box from Sam and then placed it in a corner in the room. He turned and addressed his former crush. "Thank you for brining us your father's invention, Quincy. The Asgard are grateful."
"It won't be enough." she stated. "You need to be rebuilt. A whole new body. Why not use humans to clone yourself?"
"The cranial capacity will not hold an Asgard's intellect." he reported. "However, an Ancient's would. You would be the key to supplying the needed genetic material to make a human clone that could hold an Asgard's mind."
"You mean use my DNA?" she questioned.
"Indeed." he agreed. "General O'Neill had part of what would be required as he has a gene that was passed down from your people. It was not enough though I hoped in another generation that gene could alter to the point of compatibility. What we would require would be Ancient DNA that is perfectly preserved." He went to the controls, "Upon beaming you aboard, Quincy…I scanned your DNA. The Panacea not only enhanced your ability to heal it also enhanced your anti-aging genes. That is why you do not seem to age. You do age but body is able to regenerate new cells at a record rate to replace the cells that age. In combination with the anti-aging enhancements and the healing enhancements you would have qualities that make you appear immortal. But you are not."
"You mean I can still die?" she asked.
"It would take a massive traumatic injury." he told her.
She asked, "Such as?"
"Decapitation or incineration." he informed.
"So…don't lose my head and don't be ground zero if a nuke goes off. Got it!" she gave a thumbs up.
As Daniel watched the exchange he suddenly realized why Thor seemed to like Jack the best out of the team. Jack had the same personality and sense of humor as Thor's old crush. He rubbed the side of his head at the thought.
Jack stood still comprehending what he learned about Thor's youth. "Thor was a teenage Asgard and had a thing for Adams and wanted to date her." he repeated to himself shocked.
Quincy stated, "The four races did mingle a bit, Colonel. It wasn't uncommon for an Asgard to date an Ancient. Or an Ancient to date a Nox. Or a Nox to date a Furling. You get what I mean?"
He cocked an eye, "I get what you mean, Adams. It just blows my mind thinking of Thor as a teenager in the first place."
"We were children together." she informed annoyed. "We used to play games. This is not the same body Thor had back then. Thor was a lot taller for starters. He wore clothes! He was athletic. A hell of a fighter pilot. He could run, jump, do everything a human male could do. The cloning has robbed him off what he used to be, Colonel. I had no idea things had gotten so bad for the Asgard." She turned to Thor, dropped to her knees and looked him straight in the eye, "I am so sorry for abandoning you, Thor. I never thought this would be the results. I promise we will find my father's ship and we will restore the Asgard. Forgive me for running away and isolating myself on Earth."
Thor softly assured, "No Asgard ever held your self induced isolation against you. I am pleased you have decided to return to galaxy and assert your heritage."
Daniel caught the term. He asked, "Heritage?"
Thor looked up at the man and informed, "The Ancients were a monarchy system with democratic voting. Much like the Asgard used to be. My father was the last of the Asgard monarchy. Aeculap was a member of the Ancient monarchy. He would be what you refer to as a Duke by Earth's monarchy establishment. His daughters were all duchesses. The reason I had to ask for permission to court from both her father and mine was due to monarchy rules that were established back then."
Quincy added, "Thor is technically a prince." She rose to her feet and looked upon SG-1. "We need to find that ship and the sooner the better."
Thor suggested, "The data banks of Atlantis would have the last known location of the Caduceus."
Daniel spoke up, "We don't know where Atlantis is. Quincy just told us about it being a city and a ship this week."
Thor asked, "Do you know where the city went when it left Earth?" He spoke to Quincy.
"Pegasus system." she told him.
Thor went back to the control panel and started to work. Before them, projected from the ceiling was a star chart. He then highlighted the Pegasus system. "This would be the location." he pinpointed the area. "Do you know the state of the city, Quincy?"
"The protocol for leaving the city behind would be to enact the shield and settle it at the bottom of an ocean or large lake on a class E planet." she stated from recollection.
Thor reported, "There is one class E planet in the system."
"Class E Planet?" Sam asked.
"Class Earth." she stated. "Earth got the name from our classification system. It means it had the basic elements for life."
Daniel wondered, "Are the basic elements earth, fire, water and air?"
"Basically." she agreed. "A planet capable of sustaining life is called an 'Earth Class' planet for my people."
"Wouldn't it be called a terra class planet?" Daniel asked.
She shook her head, "Terra mean soil. Earth is a classification."
He questioned, "So earth and terra are two different things in Ancient?"
"Yes!" she nodded hard.
Daniel pondered the information as Thor spoke up.
"I have the coordinates for the planet that Atlantis would have landed on." the Asgard reported. "I can give you the Gate address from these coordinates, Major Carter."
"Please do." she agreed and came to the Asgard's side. She then added, "So that's the seventh symbol. We don't have the power to dial the Gate that far out."
Daniel stated, "We will need to find another ZPM."
Quincy combed through her memory, "I remember Ra had on in his treasury on Earth. He had no idea what it was."
"But that was six thousand years ago." Daniel countered.
She asked, "You mean the government hasn't figured out how to travel through time yet?"
Sam gave her a look, "You do know how?"
"You have a Star Gate. Just wing a wormhole around the sun with a solar flare." she suggested.
Sam smirked, "We did that one. Nearly didn't get back."
"1969." Jack nodded.
"1969?" Cam asked.
Sam nodded, "It was our first year of operation." She looked to Quincy, "That would be nearly impossible to control."
Quincy shook her head, "You can accomplish it with a basic program. How did you get back?"
Sam informed, "We tried to reverse what we did, over shot the return date and Janet's daughter, Cassie met us in the Gate Room as an old lady. She used a device on her hand to activate the gate and send us back."
"Was it a ring?" she asked.
"Yes!" Sam nodded hard.
She puckered in thought.
"What?" Sam asked.
"My aunt had a boyfriend who was into time travel and time dilation fields, stuff like that. He made her a ring that could control a star gate's wormhole and make it possible to travel through time with the ring." she informed.
Daniel asked, "Do you know what became of the ring?"
She nodded, "It's in my jewelry box. Janus gave it to me before he left in that shuttle he converted to a time machine on Atlantis."
"Time shuttle?" Jack asked bewildered.
"One of his pet projects." she recalled.
Sam asked, "You have possession of the ring that Cassie will use to send us home?"
She nodded, "Only one I know of."
Jack asked, "What would we do with it?"
Cam smirked, "I get it. Use the ring to go back in time to get the ZPM from Ra."
Daniel nodded, "That's what I was thinking." He then suggested, "We use Cassie's ring that Quincy has. We use the Gate itself to go back to Ancient Egypt, get the ZPM and return home. We can dress up like Ra's foot soldiers."
Sam spoke up, "That could actually work. We use the wormhole and the Gate to go back, get what we need and come home. In and out." She looked to the faces of her teammates.
"Like a pirate!" Quincy cheered amused. "I always wanted a good look inside that treasury."
Sam sounded, "We are not taking anything else. Just the ZPM."
She countered, "Unless I find other artifacts that belonged to my people."
"In and out." Sam countered.
"I was a pirate on the open seas. I know in and out." she assured.
