Ned I
The day has come for the arrival of the King's party at Winterfell, a month after the news of Jon Arryn's resignation of Hand was received. It was found that Jon's wife, Lysa Arryn has been having an affair with the former Master of Coin, Petyr Baelish and that Robin Arryn was actually the result of that affair leaving Jon and the Vale without an heir. Not only that it was also discovered that the two were plotting to assassinate Jon and that Baelish would use his death to consolidate his position in the Vale and to sow dissent in the region. Thankfully, the plot was discovered before it was able to go on and the two were swiftly put to the sword. Jon, without much of a choice had to resign as Hand of the King and return to the Vale to fix whatever damage Baelish has caused.
Cat was visibly distraught when the news reached Winterfell. Who wouldn't be when you found out that your sister and childhood friend were dead but she understood that they had what was coming to them.
"Where's Arya? Sansa, where's your sister?" His wife's words brought him back to the real world. As if on cue, Arya came running at them wearing an oversized helmet. Ned swiftly took the helmet and put her in line with the rest of the family. As soon as Arya joined the line, the royal party finally passed through the gates led by the kingsguard followed by a man wearing a dog-shaped helm. That was probably 'The Hound', Sandor Clegane and behind him were two people. The first was a girl a little older than Sansa at around five and ten. She had long black hair with green eyes, the perfect combination of Baratheon and Lannister and wore a well-made blue dress. Princess Mona Baratheon, Robert and Tanya's eldest and behind her was a boy at around ten name days with shoulder length black hair and green eyes, the crown prince, Cedric Baratheon. In the corner of his eye, he could see Sansa eyeing the crown prince probably imagining having 5 children with him while also having a rather confused expression on her face most likely aimed towards the horse-riding princess.
It didn't take long before he saw his king and old friend, Robert Baratheon who looked like he gained much weight since the two last saw each other. "That's her, that's the queen", Arya whispered in which she was told to be quiet by her elder sister. Riding next to him was his wife, the Thronebreaker herself, queen Tanya Lannister. Once again, this confused Sansa on why both the women of the royal family would do something so unbefitting of ladies by riding on horseback. However, Tanya Lannister was no ordinary lady if what he saw of her during the Greyjoy Rebellion was any indication.
The queen was in short, beautiful. She had the typical Lannister golden hair that was tied in a high ponytail and green eyes. She wore a red tunic with a fur coat and black breeches which was not unheard of in the North but down South, it would be seen as scandalous but no one would say that in front of her or behind her back. Her clothes did not do well to hide her figure but it is doubtful she would care or people were too scared to ogle her, which was understandable.
As the party came to a stop, a group of servants came forward with step ladders for the king and queen to dismount on. Robert dismounted on top of the steps with no issue. However, Tanya seemed insulted by the gesture and dismounted on the other side on to the dirt. Ned hoped nothing would happen to those poor servants. Lannisters and their damned pride. As the king and queen walked forward, the entire household knelt until Robert motioned them all to rise.
"Your grace," Ned greeted his king.
"You've gotten fat," of course with Robert being Robert this is the first thing he would say to his friend he hasn't seen in almost 10 years. This led to both Ned and Tanya to glance at Robert's rather enlarged girth and caused the three of them to laugh out loud and the two old friends embraced. Robert then went on to give Cat a hug and greet the children. While he was doing this, Ned was looking at Tanya and she seemed more interested looking at Winterfell than the Starks. Robert stood in front of him again, "9 years, Ned. Where have you been?" Robert said with a smile still present on his face.
"Guarding the North for you, your grace. Winterfell is yours," after he said this, Arya decided it was the perfect time to ask "Where's the imp?" followed by Sansa telling her to shut up again.
"Sorry to disappoint you, lady Arya but my brother will be staying in King's Landing for the time being. I did just appoint him to be the new Master of Coin after the old one was dismissed. Not to mention he hasn't been working long enough to earn a break yet," at the mention of Petyr Baelish, Cat visibly flinched while also trying not to glare daggers at the queen, no doubt wary about her exploits while Arya seemed disappointed not being able to see the dwarf.
After making her presence known, Ned approached the queen and kissed her on the hand, "My queen," Cat then bowed to her and addressed her as her queen.
"Take me to the crypts, Ned. I wish to pay my respects," said Robert, no doubt referring to Lyanna.
"While you go do that, I'm going to catch up on some sleep. Can't wait to finally sleep on a soft bed after almost a month of travelling," the queen declared for the Starks to hear, signaling to Cat to lead her to the bedchambers, followed by her brother, Jamie Lannister and so, the husbands went underground to the crypt while the wives went to the castle to the king's bedchambers.
(In the crypts)
"Tell me about Jon Arryn," Ned was anxious to know about what really happened to their foster father.
"What's there to tell, Lysa was fucking Baelish behind Jon's back, Robin's not Jon's child and they both tried to conspire to kill Jon. Not only that, Baelish has been embezzling coin from the crown's treasury to pay off Vale lords to support him and to sow dissent in the Vale. There was enough evidence to execute them both," Robert explained what Ned already knew.
Wanting to learn more, he pushed for more, "Where did you find the evidence of this?" after this was said, Ned noticed that there was a smile on Robert's face.
"Actually, Tanya was the one who discovered all of this. Apparently, she found some errors with the numbers when looking through the accounts, she suspected this was Baelish's doing and convinced some of his whores that it was bad for their health to conspire against the crown so she had them gather any and all of Baelish's activities," Ned was surprised that a woman who caused so much death and misery to the former inhabitants of Old Wyk would go this far for the crown. Then again, this would affect her too if she did nothing.
"Eventually, one of them found Baelish's journal which contained the brothels' accounts, something about some unexplained income or something and also letters from some of the lords in the Vale to conspire against Jon so she showed the journal to me and Jon. There was enough evidence to send him to the Wall but she was convinced that there was more to Baelish's plan so she went to the only person who knew Baelish better than anyone, Lysa Arryn. I don't know what Tanya said to her but Lysa was scared shitless when she confessed in court. Oh, you should've seen the look on Baelish's face when she confessed to everything," Robert then laughed at the memory before composing himself to continue.
"Didn't take much longer after they were beheaded, then Jon had to return to the Vale to clean up Baelish's messes. There's also the issue with succession since Jon has no heir at the moment. Speaking of, Robin Stone was sent to live in an orphanage in King's Landing, at least, that's what Tanya told me," Robert finished retelling the events and waited for Ned to absorb the situation.
After a minute of contemplation, Ned finally spoke "So why me? Why not someone more accomplished, Stannis maybe? He is your brother after all," Robert groaned, as if he was asked this before.
"For fuck's sake Ned you sound like Tanya. Of course Stannis was one of the first names she mentioned, her father being the first and the dead will rise again before I willingly name him Hand. As for Stannis, he'll just bring gloom to the place. Wouldn't surprise me if he decided to ban brothels all together. Then again, Tanya probably won't allow that since that would cost the kingdom and her some coin since she owns Baelish's brothels now," finishing his tirade.
Ned though spotted a slight change in his old friend, "I've noticed you keep mentioning your wife pretty often back there. I assume the marriage is going well?" he asked wanting to know if Tanya's treating Robert well.
"Well enough as I can hope, we don't hate each other at least. I didn't like her at first, since she's a Lannister but after the Greyjoy Rebellion, I started to see her in a new light. Sure, she reminds me too much of Tywin fucking Lannister, but strangely we've gotten along alright. She's no Lyanna, but I can't really complain much," Ned didn't know what to feel. On one hand, he was happy that Robert had a decent marriage but on the other, he felt sick that it had to be Tanya Lannister. "I need you Ned, I need you down at King's Landing. Not here where you're no good to nobody."
Ned knelt in front of Robert, "I don't deserve the honour, your grace."
"I'm not trying to honour you, Ned. I'm trying to get you to run my kingdom for me while I eat, drink and fuck my way to an early grave. Oh, a word of warning first. As Hand, you need to work with Tanya most of the time. Now I know what you think about her, but you need to work with her since she's been doing most of the ruling and if what Jon said is true, she's a bloody good one," Ned was surprised to hear this. Apparently, cruelty wasn't the only thing that Tanya inherited from her father.
"If she's not trying to destroy another House, then I think I'll be able to run the kingdom with her," Ned answered albeit unconvincingly.
"Good to hear. I've always seen you as a brother, Ned, more than my actual brothers. So let's join houses, Cedric will marry one of your daughters," Robert excitedly gave Ned the betrothal offer.
"I would like that, Robert, but you said 'one of my daughters'. Have you not decided yet?" Ned asked, not liking where this is going.
"Tanya will choose who will be the next queen. She agreed that Cedric should marry a Stark girl to secure the North but she also said something along the lines of 'If there is to be a new queen, the least she needs to be is competent,' I think she's going to test both of them. I don't know when and I don't know how but knowing her, she'll probably test them on numbers and the politics so I suggest you best prepare your daughters on that."
Ned's hunch was correct and if he knew his daughters, he knew that Sansa would likely fail while Arya, he had no idea. He knew Arya hated the idea of being married but at the same time, she idolizes Tanya so she would probably give it her all to impress the queen. All he could do now was pray to the Old Gods that his girls would survive what the queen will throw at them.
AN:
Welcome to my first ever story on this site. As you may see, I'm not very experienced when it comes to writing stories but I'm open to any valid criticism.
Now as for the story, I actually thought of it while my internet connection was down for almost an entire night and since there is a lack of Youjo Senki x ASOIAF/GOT fics, this thought just couldn't get out of my head. As for the future of this story, I have no idea. This is either going to continue or just going to be a oneshot. If this does continue, don't expect any regular updates since I have a full-time job and I have no idea where I'm going with this story.
There is also the issue of Tanya. Tanya as a character is pretty complex and I'm worried that if I do continue this story, I might ruin her character altogether. So if there are writers better than I am, (which is a lot I would imagine) any advice will be helpful.
Not to mention that I have limited knowledge on the books since I've only watched the TV show. So some things that are in the books but not in the show like Arianne Martell, book Euron, the Young Griff plotline and many of the smaller Houses I'll try my best to research ahead of time.
I also have a few more OC's in mind mostly regarding Cersei's children but for now, Mona will be played by Marie Avgeropoulos while Cedric will be played by Sunny Suljic.
-So to recap the chapter:
-Tanya is queen by marrying Robert and the two have a rather amicable marriage with each other.
-Jon Arryn survives and is currently at the Eyrie.
-Littlefinger and Lysa are dead.
-Tyrion is Master of Coin and did not travel to Winterfell.
-And Tanya did something during the Greyjoy Rebellion that caused Ned to hate her and many people to fear her a la Tywin Lannister. Not to mention she earned the name Thronebreaker (Yes, I took it from the Thronebreaker game which was amazing btw)
That's enough rambling from me and I'll hope to see you guys later.
