Chapter 6: A New Alliance… for now
As soon as the gargoyles returned to the clock tower, they bandaged Zelda's right hip. Where the laser hit her from one of Xanatos's robots. Zelda whimpered in pain while trying to move in a comfortable position as she laid down on her left side. Elisa sat next to her in case she needs anything since they advised her to rest until she turns to stone for the wound to heal. Zelda agreed without hesitation.
While Zelda decided to take a nap, the others had a discussion of the events that had happened.
"Zelda is very lucky that the injury isn't infected." Lexington said while putting the medical supplies away.
"Hmm... but I believe, for her safety, that it would be better to have someone to accompany her on our night flights"
"I agree with you Goliath but eventually she'll get annoyed with time." advised Hudson
"I understand old friend but with Xanatos still trying to get all of us, it would seem that now he may try to get her as well."
"What could Zelda have done that would want him to capture her with us?" Angela asked in bit concerned in her voice.
"Hmm.. I'm afraid that I'm not sure Angela."
During the entire conversation, Brooklyn only gazed at Zelda's sleeping form. He was relieved that she is fine but is angry that Xanatos would dare attack her and try to capture her. Brooklyn wanted to go back and finish Xanatos off...
"Brooklyn..."
When Brooklyn heard her whimper in her sleep, he decided against the idea. In that moment, he felt something in his heart and soul that he thought would never be...
'Do.. Do I like Zelda? Possibly love?' Brooklyn lightly clenched where his heart is thumping almost wildly.
He was in his own world, trying to process what he is feeling when he felt someone's hand on his shoulder. He snapped out of his thoughts and looked up and saw Goliath.
"Are you alright Brooklyn? You were silent through the entire conversation."
Brooklyn nodded as he laughed nervously, "Hehe, yeah I'm fine. Just worried for Zelda and her well-being."
Goliath wasn't entirely convinced but let it go... for now.
~~~~~ { A few hours later } ~~~~~
When it's about almost sunrise, all the gargoyles went to their assigned places while Angela and Elisa assisted Zelda to her assigned place to turn to stone. She struggled a bit, but she eventually got onto her place. Brooklyn could tell that she's trying to hide her pain, which he admired greatly. But he also knows that she won't hold on for long.
When the sun started to peek over the tall buildings, Brooklyn quickly took Zelda's hand, which made her jumped a bit in surprise nut quickly held his hand back when she realized it's him. As the light from the sun came over the buildings they turned to stone. Elisa stood a few feet back and watched as they turned to stone.
"See you guys later tonight." She chuckled lightly as she walked back inside and back to her police/detective duties.
~~~~~ { With Xanatos's Place } ~~~~~
"What is your history with that female gargoyle? And why do you want her so badly?"
"Hmm, before I answer any questions Xanatos. I must know YOUR intentions on those gargoyles that you have tried to find."
Xanatos thought if he should tell this creature, who is talking to him through a hologram, but it was too dark to see exactly what the type of creature it is and what it looks like. Xanatos also thought that if he and this unknown creature work together, he might have a better chance to capture the gargoyles. So, he decided to tell the truth.
"I simply wanted to attempt to destroy the gargoyles once their replacements, The Steel Clan, came online. The Steel Clan was defeated, however. But then your little friend happened to show up where I thought one of the others would show up. And from what my scans showed me, she has some kind of power within her... Which makes her unique from the others.
The hologram creature raised a brow and had a grin, "Impressive, your technology is almost advanced as ours but.. "
Suddenly the creature's hologram changed into one giant eye.
"Not as advanced enough."
Xanatos smirked as he chuckled.
"I must agree with you. Your technology is advanced then ours."
The creature growled in annoyance a bit.
"As for the questions that you asked before, we.. were somewhat friends for two years before those gargoyles were... alive in this town. We met on the roof top on one of the tallest buildings while looking around the city. On the second year, I started to develop a feeling of taking her when I sensed that she has a power that she probably didn't realize yet. But she didn't feel the same as I did. Even if that was the case, I still will have her by my side. Since she is the only female that caught my interest."
"And what exactly is this so-called power does she have?"
"That I haven't quite figured out yet but there is one thing that I do know. If she mates with anyone, they'll automatically-"
"Have almost the same power as she does."
The creature hologram back to its original form and nodded, "Yes, but unfortunately she fled before that happened."
Then Xanatos thought of one more question.
"You only want her for just her powers?"
"Not only that Mr. Xanatos, I want what most males want out of females... An offspring."
"An offspring?"
The creature smirked while nodding, "Yes, but not just any offspring. One that has both of our powers. We will create a new powerful species. A new bloodline that will unstoppable."
Xanatos didn't like what this creature is planning but if he wants the gargoyles, he'll have no choice but to follow on joining an alliance with this creature til' he can figure out a plan to also stop its plan.
"So, do we have a deal Mr. Xanatos? You'll get the gargoyles and I'll get the female one."
Xanatos looked at the hologram's eyes for a minute as he thought this through.
"Yes, we have a deal."
~~~~~ { At Night } ~~~~~
When all the gargoyles woke up from their stone-sleep. Brooklyn and Zelda were about to stretch when they felt their hands, still holding each other from the morning before the sun came up turning them to stone. They blushed as they quickly let go and stood next to each other awkwardly for a couple of seconds.
"I-I'm sorry!" Brooklyn stuttered nervously.
"I-It's okay Brooklyn! It's fine.. I .. appreciate you being here while I'm still... in a nervous wreck."
Zelda laughed nervously.
"It's no problem, Zelda. How are you feeling?" he asked while seeing if her wound on her right hip is healed.
"I feel great! At least the bruise on my hip is fully healed." she said in excitedly.
Brooklyn smiled softly while watching her letting out her emotions.
"I'm glad that it's healed nut I'm more glad that YOUR fine."
Zelda looked at Brooklyn for a second before shyly looking away, her wings tucking close behind her.
"Thank you,"
Brooklyn slightly jumped off from the edge of the balcony to the floor and held out a hand for her to take. She took his hand and gently got off the edge and stood next to him once again. They both let go as they smiled at each other and walked towards the entrance of the clock tower.
When they reached the bottom of the stairs, Zelda walked over to Angela and Broadway while Brooklyn went over to Lexington and Bronx.
"Zelda, how is the wound on your hip doing?" asked Angela.
"It's fully healed. I feel brand new!"
The three gargoyles laughed at her joke. Then Broadway though of something that may happen from Zelda's encounter from last night.
"Zelda.. I think you should be with either one of us to help with patrolling the city. You know... just to keep you safe before go on your own again."
"I understand Broadway and I actually agree with being with someone for a while til' I feel ready to be back on my own." Zelda smiled.
Angela and Broadway smiled also and patted on her shoulder. Zelda smiled brightly and continuing to have a couple of conversations of other things in life.
Brooklyn was watching them before he turned his attention back on what he and Lexington are doing while Bronx is taking a nap and while Goliath and Hudson are patrolling the city. They're reading a couple of books, newspaper, magazines and comics. Brooklyn finished reading a newspaper and a comic from the pile they made in front of them. He was about to leave to take a short nap when a book near his foot caught his interest.
As he picked up the book, he read the title to the book.
'Thumbelina? Hm, I never read or even seen this book around here or the library. Probably got checked out on the times when we go get and return the books we like to read.'
Brooklyn looks at Zelda then back at the book and suddenly has an idea.
~~~~~ { With Zelda } ~~~~~
Zelda is sitting a few feet away from Broadway and Angel watching TV. They are watching 101 Dalmatians since it did catch their interest and curiosity.
Zelda was so into the movie that she didn't notice someone sitting next to her until she felt a hand on her shoulder that made her jumped a little. But she calmed down when she noticed that it's Brooklyn, who is trying not to laugh from her jump scare and holding a book in one hand. Zelda puffed her cheeks a bit in annoyance.
"Oh my god Brooklyn! Don't scare me like that!" she whispered a bit loudly.
"I'm sorry Zelda, I thought that you already knew or saw that I was next to you, but I guess I was wrong." he chuckled.
Zelda just sighed and shook her head with a sigh.
"I'll forgive you for just this once and ONLY once mister because next time I'll never forgive you."
Brooklyn laughed light at her joke while Angel and Broadway, who were listening to the conversation, laughed as well.
"I'll try to remember that."
Then Brooklyn remembered the book that he wanted to show and give her.
"Oh, I almost forgot to show you this." he said, handing her the book.
Zelda looked at the book and found a great interest in it as she examined it and reading only a few pages.
"Wow, this book is something that I never read before. A great fairytale of a tiny girl and her adventures."
The more she read a few more pages and thought about it, the more it sounds like she is Thumbelina.
'The parts with Thumbelina's sudden marriage.. or marriages with the toad and the mole sounds kinda like me and-'
"Hey, you okay?"
Zelda suddenly came out of her thoughts when she heard Brooklyn's voice.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine. Just reading a few sentences and I was in thought." she said, smiling nervously.
Brooklyn wasn't convinced with her answer but didn't say anything to upset her, so he left it as it is.
"Okay, just making sure."
They continued finishing the movie until the credits showed up and they played UNO.
