FRIDAY
Battle at Ula-Ula Island
That morning Ash woke up feeling the sun in his eyes, he had forgotten to close the curtains again
Much more rested than yesterday, Ash settled down so he could see the time on his cell phone, surprised that he hadn't heard the alarm go off yet.
"Oh, I still had an hour to sleep" Ash thought, seeing the time and understanding why his alarm hadn't gone off yet
With the beautiful Alolan sun lighting up the room, Ash knew that he wouldn't be able to fall asleep again, but he could spend these minutes enjoying his comfortable bed and the beautiful view he could see through the window.
Even though he knew it would be a busy day again and that there were still plenty of activities to go during the festival, and possibly many more once it became official... Ash didn't feel overwhelmed at the moment. The conversation with Mr. Goodshow on Wednesday had put him at ease, as had the conversation with Evan and Frank yesterday. Both of them had worked in the League for a long time, and they had reassured him by telling him about different experiences they had had... It seems all champions are overwhelmed at first, but with some practice it became very easy... Or so Frank and Evan said
In addition to the fact that his fears and nerves had noticeably diminished, waking up in these conditions, in a beautiful place like Alola, calmed anyone down.
Now that the nerves had passed, the anxiety began. Anxiety to start preparing the new version of the conference, to find the gym leaders, for all the battles that he would have in the future... Anyway, he was anxious to start performing his duties as Champion, and above all he was anxious because his close ones would find out, he could no longer resist the desire to tell them
Ash took advantage of the time, and lying on his bed he began to think about the different things that he would like to do once he is officially the Champion.
Thinking about all the things he wanted and had to do as a champion only made him more anxious, so Ash decided it would be best to get up now.
- Wake up Pikachu, we must prepare to go to Ula-Ula Island
- Pikaaaaa - Pikachu said, stretching
Walking into the kitchen, Ash was met by Goh, Misty, and Evan.
- Good morning - Ash said when entering
- Good morning - greeted Goh
- Did you sleep well? You look very lively - said Misty, noticing Ash's state of mind
- Yes, very well... I am very anxious for today's battle... And for everything that is coming during the weekend
- Oh, that's right... Tomorrow you have a Battle Royale- Evan said
- How do you know? - asked Ash surprised
- They were promoting it on TV a while ago - answered Evan
- Great... I didn't know they were promoting it - Ash said
- What is a Battle Royale? Goh asked.
- It's something very typical here in Alola - said Ash - in a ring, four trainers fight at the same time
- All against all? - asked Evan, who had never seen a Battle Royale
- Yes, they all attack at the same time
- Wow, that sounds exciting - said Misty
- It is... And the best of all is the Masked Royal... Who is actually Professor Kukui - Ash said
- Professor Kukui? - Goh asked.
-Yeah, it was supposed to be a secret..But by accident his mask fell off..his Incineroar is really amazing
- Will you fight him tomorrow? - Misty asked.
- I don't know... there will be some kind of tournament, I guess if we reach the final we can fight against him
- Do you think you can beat him? - Goh asked.
- I hope so, but the Professor is the best of all in that style of battles... - Ash reflected
- I think we'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out if you can do it Ash - said Misty
- You come back tonight, right? - Evan asked.
- Yes, we will return after the battle. Tomorrow we will go to Akala before the Battle Royale and we will stay there for the next day's battle - answered Ash
- Oh now I see
After breakfast and fetching his Pokémon for the afternoon battle, Ash and the others headed to the dock so they could catch the Ferry to Ula - Ula Island. There they will meet Mallow, Kiawe, Sophocles and Lana
- Alola! - Ash greeted enthusiastically
- Alola Ash - greeted Mallow - you look very lively today
- I said the same thing - replied Misty
- I can't help it... It will be a very exciting weekend with so many battles that we will have, isn't it Pikachu?
- Pi pikachu! - answered the Pokémon animatedly
- Hahaha... They were already late... - Misty said with a smile
- What are you talking about? - asked Lana surprised
- Ash (and Pikachu) always got so anxious and excited before an important battle or some tournament... and although he had been excited with the two previous battles, he lacked that spark that characterizes him... - Misty explained - now that he's really turned on, I can imagine that Ash will surprises us with his crazy strategies during battles
- Oh... Now that I think about it, you're right, during the Manalo conference last year he was very energetic - Lana said
- And why did he take so long to react like that? - Mallow asked, as she looked at Ash who was explaining something very enthusiastically to Kiawe and Sophocles.
- I don't know... - Misty said. Although in reality Misty suspected that it was due to the initial doubts Ash had had about being the Champion of Alola. Now that he had calmed down, his excitement was back with full force.
During the trip to Ula-Ula, Misty took the opportunity to talk to Ash alone for a moment. Taking advantage of a moment when everyone was busy listening to a Sophocles story, Misty took Ash's hand and led him to the other end of the Ferry.
- What's wrong Misty?
- Nothing, I just wanted to be able to talk alone - replied Misty, leaning on the railing and looking at the sea - I see that the conversation with Mr. Goodshow calmed you down a lot
- Why you say that?
- Because you can see from a distance how anxious and excited you are... It reminds me a lot of how you were before the Indigo League or in the Silver Conference - Misty said with a big smile
- Really?
- More or less... Back then it was more anxiety than skills you had...
- Hey!
- It's the truth Ash... But now it's not like that, and it shows that it's not only anxiety about the battle, but it's anxiety in anticipation of everything that's coming as Champion
- It's true... I can't help it... - said Ash, looking at the Island that began to appear in the distance - after talking with Mr. Goodshow, Frank and Evan... I feel much calmer... I know what It will be somewhat chaotic at the beginning, but the excitement of everything that will come later outweighs the uncertainty of what that chaotic beginning will be like.
- You will do excellent Ash
- I hope so... This morning I had time to think... And I have many ideas... I can't wait for Monday
- Yes, me neither... But you must try to stay calm, or you will end up telling someone the secret
- I know, but don't worry, I won't tell anyone... In fact I need your help with something... After yesterday, I think I should somehow deliver the letters to the gang and Goh, but I don't know how to do it so as not to ruin the surprise
- It's true... They may feel a little ignored if you don't send them anything...
- I thought so... But as soon as they get together to attend the press conference they will know that the others also received a letter and they will be able to figure it out - Ash said
- One minute... since is an official press conference, only journalists should be able to attend ... I don't think it will be open to the public
- Really? In that case each one will be watching from their house...
- Unless they get together early for some festival activity - Misty said thoughtfully - What time is the press conference?
- At noon I think... Let me check - Ash said, taking out his cell phone to check his agenda - Yes, it's at 12... And I have a meeting with Mr. Goodshow at 9:30.. .
- I think I have an idea...
- Great, which one?
- We could meet them for lunch that day. You tell them that the announcement of the rules will be made that day, and that therefore you must meet earlier with Mr. Goodshow, but that once the announcement is over we can all go for lunch... And thus discuss with Lana and Kiawe everything new regarding the Manalo Conference
- But what if they get together before?
- Since the announcement will only be made on TV, and it is not known what time it will end, I don't think they will do it, or they will miss it. We can arrange to meet at the League building (which I want to meet by the way) once the announcement is over.
- It could work...
- I'll make sure Goh stays at home and whatches it too ...
- Okay, I like the idea. But the letters will have to be delivered just before 12...
- Yes, if they arrive too early it will not work
- I'll talk it over with Frank...
Arriving at Ula-Ula Island, the gang noticed that the festival was also being celebrated with enthusiasm there.
- Let's go! We must see where the contest will be held - said Mallow, leading the others through the various food and entertainment stalls.
Finally they reached the city square, where they had installed bleachers similar to those of the aquatic competition, and in fact there was also a small stage with what seemed to be the judges' table.
"Here it is," Misty said, pointing to the large billboard to her right.
- Brilliant! I'll go see if I should do something before it starts - said Mallow
- I'll go with you - Lana said, following Mallow
- When did Mallow sign up? Ash asked.
- Yesterday, there was a stand with the inscriptions on Poni Island - Kiawe replied
- Oh... Now that I see that it's a cooking contest, I see why you didn't sign up... - Ash said
- Misty... Do you like to cook? Sophocles asked.
Before Misty could respond, Ash started laughing out loud.
- Hahaha... Misty... Cooking? ... Haha never try to eat something that she has prepared... Trust me
- Ash Ketchum! Why are you laughing? What do you know about my food - said Misty very angry
- Oh, come on Misty, the last time I ate something you prepared I almost died trying - Ash replied between laughs
- That was when we were 10 years old! - Misty said, very very angry
- Did you learn to cook? - Ash asked surprised.
- Of course! What did you expect?... People mature over time Ash, and that includes learning to cook and do other adult things...
- I know that
- Really? Because it doesn't seem like it... You're still the same immature child as always...
- That is not true!
- I bet you don't know how to cook anything more difficult than a sandwich
- Ehm... Guys... - said Goh, suspecting that the discussion would not end well
- What?! - They both said at the same time. Seeing the shocked faces of Goh and the others, Ash and Misty immediately calmed down, feeling a bit embarrassed by the argument.
- I'm sorry Goh - Ash apologized - we shouldn't have yelled at you
- Yes Goh, sorry for that... You guys too - added Misty
- Okay... - said Goh - I just wanted to let you know that everyone was looking at you
- Oh... - Ash said, noticing that they had called everyone's attention with their shouts.
Taking Misty's hand, he guide her towards the shade of a tree, so they can talk alone.
- I'm sorry Misty, I shouldn't have laughed like that
- Yeah, I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have treated you like that... You know I really don't think you're immature...
- Thank you
- Well, maybe a little immature... But that's what makes you so special
- What are you talking about?
- Because despite everything you've go through, and even if you find yourself in the middle of a dangerous situation... You always keep your essence... That boy I caught in the river so many years ago I still see it in you... The one who loves playing with Pokémon, being friends with them and being able to share adventures with them... I know you love battles, but I also know you love Pokémon more... - Misty said with affection, taking both of Ash's hands - That essence would be lost if you fully matured...
Ash didn't know how to respond to Misty's tender words.
Hearing her say that he was the same immature child as always, he felt very hurt... Misty knows better than anyone how much Ash has struggled to mature as a person and especially as a trainer... And with all his doubts and fears about being the Champion still haunting his mind, those words were a heavy blow.
But seeing Misty's sincere look, and hearing her tender apology, Ash understood that Misty had only let herself get carried away by anger during the argument... An argument that he had provoked and that was very similar to the ones they had when they were small, in which Brock had to intervene
Finally Ash decided that the best way to respond was with a kiss of reconciliation. Forgetting that they were surrounded by people, and that the relationship was supposed to be a secret, Ash kissed Misty very passionately, to make her understand that all was forgiven.
The kiss lasted several seconds, and when they separated, Misty gave Ash a big hug.
- I think my mom was really right when she said that we are used to arguing…
- Yes .. it will be better that we try to leave that bad habit
- Or we could hurt each other's feelings without realizing it
- You're right... Luckily Goh intervened... I don't know how Brock could stand us - said Misty
- Haha that's true...
- I promise to try not to react like that if something bothers me.
- Yeah, me too...
- If something bothers us, we should talk about it... not shout about it
- I totally agree
- Come on, the contest will start soon... - Misty said, giving him a quick kiss before starting to walk towards where the others were, without letting go of Ash's hand - I think you ruined the secret part of this relationship - she added, seeing that Ash looked at his hands confused
- Oh... Yes I think I got carried away a little
- As long as you manage to keep the other secret, everything is fine
- Haha
As they approached the others, they could see that Mallow and Lana were with them.
- Everything is alright? - Mallow asked with a smile.
The boys had told Mallow and Lana about the argument. They had all been looking around worriedly to see if they could be seen in the distance, and had been caught just in time to see Ash's forceful response.
- Yes... Don't worry - replied Misty
A few minutes later everything was ready to start the contest. The gand had found good seats in the stands, the judges were already seated in their places and the competitors were ready. As with the aquatic competition there would be a presenter, in this case it would be a boy, who was already located in the middle of the stage
"Alola Ula-Ula, today we're having a fun cooking contest! My name is Rick, and I'll be the one with you today.
We will first introduce our five judges: Nanu, our Kahuna; Nurse Joy; our mayor; Azerola, in charge of the library; and Maggie, the owner of the largest restaurant on the island.
This will be a very special contest, since each participant can count on the help of one of his Pokemon.
What should they cook? That depends on the imagination of each participant!
Each participant has at their stand a group of basic ingredients for any type of preparation... Flour, oil, salt, sugar, butter, eggs, milk, etc.
If you look, in the center we have 20 numbered boxes. In them we have more ingredients randomly chosen ... Some contain vegetables, other fruits, berries, etc. Each participant will draw a number from this raffle, and that number will correspond to the box of ingredients with which they must make their recipe.
They will have 40 min to cook. In this contest, not only is taste important, but presentation also counts.
So let's get started! The first thing is to sort out the ingredients"
The 15 participants approached the raffle, to be able to draw a number, and then take their box of ingredients
"Before we begin, remember that the judges will evaluate flavor and presentation.
Everyone please open your boxes and see your ingredients, the clock will start ticking in 5...4...3..2..1
Get started!"
All the participants started working quickly, 40 minutes was not a long time.
As soon as Mallow opened her box of ingredients, she knew immediately that he was going to prepare. Luckily for him, in his box were all the ingredients he needed, including a Pony Radish.
The boxes with ingredients were very varied, so the place quickly began to fill with different smells
Some were preparing cakes, others a dessert, some a savory dish...
The Pokémon of each team were helping in what they could, to beat, stir, decorate or even give special touches with some attacks
Time went by fast, and it was time to end
"We only have two minutes left on the clock... Please make the final adjustments to your preparations"
- This contest is torture - said Ash - with so many delicious smells I'm very hungry
- Yes, I'm starting to get hungry too - said Kiawe
- And we won't be able to prove anything they're cooking - added Sophocles.
- Too bad they didn't invite you to be a judge, Ash - Misty said, laughing as she heard Ash's stomach growl.
- It's true... Although I think you wouldn't have been a good judge - Lana said
- Why not? - Ash asked, a little offended - I would have gladly eaten all that
- Exactly - explained Lana - you would have eaten everything and you would have given them all 10 points
- hahaha... Yes, I think you're right - said Goh
- Hey!... - Ash said just as his stomach growled again.
- hahahaha - they all laughed at the same time
"Okay, time's up!
Please everyone put their preparations on the small tables in front of you, so that the judges can rate them. The ratings will be with a maximum of 10 points and only the best 5 will go to the next round"
The judges quickly evaluated the different preparations, and only the five best averages went on to the next round, and among them was Mallow, who obtained the second best rating.
Among the selected preparations were two cakes (one of them had the highest rating), a vegetable stew, a very colorful pizza, and Mallow's Fluffy Radish Burger
"Very well, now that we have our finalists it is time for the public to also give their opinion
By applause you must choose the preparation that you like the most. The winner will get 0.2 extra points on her rating, and the second place will get 0.1 extra points."
The 5 finalists began to get a little nervous, their scores were all very similar, and this could change things quickly
"Very well, I will name each of the participants, and you will applaud your favorites, and thus we will choose the two with the most applause"
After the round of applause, the extra 0.2 points were awarded to the cake that already had the highest score, and the 0.1 points to the multicolored Pizza
This unfortunately caused Mallow to drop to third place, leaving the final ratings as follows
Erica - Cake = 9.72
Smooth - Pizza = 9.56
Mallow - Fluffy Radish Burger = 9.5
Tom - Cake = 9.36
Nick - Stew = 9.2
- Oh, what a pity, Mallow dropped to third place - said Misty
- It's true... But as soon as the judges taste their food, I'm sure that will change - Lana said
- Are you sure? - Goh asked.
- Of course! - Ash replied - Mallow cooks very well
- And that Fluffy Radish Burger is exquisite - Sophocles added.
"Alright, now it's time to taste the food!
Everyone has 5 small plates in their booth, where they must put a little of their preparation so that the judges can try it"
As the finalists began distributing their food onto their plates, Rick went on to explain the next phase of the contest.
"In this last stage, the judges will try all the preparations. But to be fair to all the participants, the judges will only rate them when they finish trying all the dishes.
First the judges will taste Erica's Cake, it is seen that it contains several Meloc and Pinia berries"
The judges ate only a couple of spoonfuls, but seemed to be enjoying the taste
"Now it's Lisa's turn and her multi-colored pizza. Her colorful toppings make it very eye-catching."
The judges began to eat, but only after a chew decided to move on to the next course
"It's Mallow's turn and hers... What is it?" Rick asked, holding the microphone closer to Mallow so she could explain her preparation.
"It's a Fluffy Radish Burger, topped with walnuts, Meloc berry and honey," Mallow explained happily.
"You mean it's a sweet preparation?" asked Rick
"That's right, Poni's radish gives it a special flavor. I also made several juices for different kind of Pokémon and one for humans" concluded Mallow, indicating the different glasses that were on his stand
Everyone in the audience began to talk to each other in surprise, some of them were even laughing. Most thought that her preparation would be a disaster. Ash for his part, took his notebook out of his backpack, quickly wrote down a couple of lines before putting it back.
The judges, somewhat fearful, tried the peculiar dessert, and to the surprise of the public, everyone finished what they had on their plate, and enjoyed their juices
"Now it's the turn of Tom's Cake, which also has many berries"
On this occasion the judges ate 3 or 4 tablespoons before moving on to the next participant
"Finally it's Nick's turn and his vegetable stew... I must say that the smell is wonderful"
Apparently not only the smell was wonderful, but also the taste, since the judges devoured everything on their plates
"Very well, now that the judges have tried all the dishes, it is time to rate them. As soon as we have the final averages, I will report the grades from lowest to highest, in order to discover our winning team"
After a couple of minutes in which the judges gave their notes and the averages were calculated, Nanu delivered the official result to Rick
"The time has come! I already have the final results... I see we had drastic changes...
In last place, with a final average of 8.68, is Lisa and her multicolored Pizza
Followed by Erica and her cake, with a final average of 9.46"
- Wow, she was the one with the highest score - said Sophocles
- Apparently it wasn't as tasty as it looked - added Misty
"In third place we have Tom, who with his cake obtained an average of 9.48. Congratulations!"
Nurse Joy was in charge of giving him his award
"In second place we have... Nick and his Stew! With an average of 9.6... I can say with only the smell that it was exquisite
That means Mallow is our winner! who surprised the judges with her Fluffy Radish Burger, earning an average of 9.75 Congratulations!"
Nurse Joy presented Nick with hir award, while Nanu was the one who presented Mallow with the award.
"Thank you very much to all our participants, and to this beautiful audience for coming to enjoy with us.
Keep enjoying this festival" Rick said goodbye, before turning off his microphone
- Mallow, your preparation was delicious - Azerola said, approaching to congratulate the winner
- Thank you! Although I would have loved to try Nick's stew, it smelled delicious - Mallow said to his opponent
- Oh, it was wonderful - Nurse Joy added
- Thanks - Nick said - I would have liked to try those Flaffy Radish Burger
- You can do it in my family's restaurant, on Melemele Island - Mallow said with a smile
- Brilliant! When I'm over there I'll look for it - Nick said, before walking away and getting lost in the audience
The competition judges also began to walk away, leaving Mallow alone in the middle of the stage.
- Congratulations Mallow! - Lana said approaching to hug her friend
- I want to try those Croquettes one day - said Misty
- Thanks girls - said Mallow
Before anyone could say anything else, Ash's stomach growled loudly.
- Ash! - Misty exclaimed.
- I'm sorry! I can't help it... - Ash apologized - I'm very happy for you Mallow, but... can we get something to eat?
- Ash!... Don't be rude - Misty scolded him
- It's not my fault! Who has an eating contest at lunch? Seeing and smelling food without being able to taste it is torture! - Ash replied as his stomach continued to growl.
- At least be happy for Mallow!
- Of course I'm happy for her... But I'm hungry!
- Guys... There's no reason to argue... I know Ash is happy for me, but his hunger is greater... Let's go find a place to have lunch - said Mallow, trying to calm things down
The group began to walk in the direction of the different food stands, with Misty and Ash staying at the end so they could talk quietly.
- Those two really feel like arguing today - Kiawe said in a low voice
- So it seems - Lana added.
- Piiika ..- Pikachu said, he had seen too many discussions between those two for this to surprise him
- Do you think they'll be okay? Sophocles asked.
- I think so, Ash's mom says that's his "normal" way of talking... - said Goh
- I'm sorry - they both said at the same time.
- I can't believe we got back into an argument so soon - said Misty disappointed
- Neither do I
- Just an hour ago we promised not to do it again! - she added anguished
- Yes...
- Do you think there's something wrong with us?
- What are you talking about?
- Maybe it's a sign that we shouldn't be together... if we're always going to be arguing...
- Come on Misty, don't think that...
- But if we're always arguing, sooner or later someone will get hurt... And I really don't want that.
- Neither do I, but..
- But nothing Ash!... Not only can we rnd with our feelings hurt... We could lose our friendship... And I... - Misty said, almost on the verge of tears
At this, Ash stopped in his tracks so he could take Misty's hand and guide her to a nearby bench.
- Hey, a ridiculous argument is not going to destroy our friendship - Ash said, trying to calm her down
- But we couldn't go through an hour without arguing - said Misty, a little desperate
- Do you remember what my mom said? That to discuss was our normal way of talking...
- Yes, but I don't want it to be like that...
- Me neither, believe me. -Ash reassured her, stroking her hand- but what I was referring to is that we are used to that dynamic, we have been doing it for many years... Since we were little and that type of reaction was expected...
- It's true...
- Changing that dynamic will not happen overnight, it will require time and effort on our part... Because as soon as we feel relaxed and confident, we fall into that dynamic again... It's just a bad habit that we have
- You really believe it?
- Of course... And not only that, I'm also sure that if we start looking for signs of whether we should be together or not, I think we'll only find signs that say that we should - Ash said, flirting
- So, and as what sign?
- Catching someone from a river could be a very clear sign - Ash said with a smile
- That just shows how clumsy you were back then Ash, it doesn't say anything about us - Misty replied laughing
- Have you never heard the expression "there are many fish in the sea" I think you found your fish that day
- hahaha don't be ridiculous Ash - said Misty between laughs
- Do you feel better?
- Yes, I'm calmer now - Misty replied, giving Ash a kiss - Thank you
- Glad to hear it
- Come on... I thought you were starving - said Misty, standing up
- Yes, but you are more important
- More important than food? Oh, God .. I feel honored-
- So you can see how much I love you - said Ash, taking his hand - come on, the others must have already found a place to eat
The others had indeed found a place to eat. When they had noticed that Ash and Misty weren't following them, they had looked around to see where they were, and seeing them sitting down talking, they decided to continue looking for a place to eat and let them solve their problems on their own. Seeing them approaching hand in hand and smiling, they all rejoiced.
- Right on time guys - said Kiawe - it's our turn
After buying their lunches, the boys walked to the beach, where they had set up several tables so that people could sit down to eat.
- Mmm, this is very tasty - said Ash, who had bought two lunches
- It's true, good choice guys - said Misty
- Goh was the one who chose the place - Sophocles clarified
- The truth is that I only stopped to see if Ash and Misty were coming after us - explained Goh
- Maybe it was an accident, but it was a great choice - Ash said, starting to eat his second portion
- You were really hungry... - Misty said surprised
- I'm sorry Ash, I didn't think it would be so terrible for you to see the contest without being able to eat - Mallow apologized
- No, no... Don't apologize, I'm glad you won - Ash said, feeling a little guilty - I know now that for the next time I see a cooking contest I should bring snacks hehe
- We still have an hour before Ash's battle... - Goh said - could we visit some stands?
- Of course - answered Lana.
- In fact, I'll go straight to the stadium - Ash said - I have to check something with my Pokémon before the battle
- Oh... Okay, we see you after your battle then - said Kiawe
- Good luck - Misty said, giving him a kiss on the cheek
- Thanks guys, see you later. Come on Pikachu!
Arriving at the stadium, Ash immediately went to his dressing room, closed the door and released Lucario and Greninja, he would need to train a little more before today's battle.
During the last days Ash had been doing a special training with Lucario and Greninja. It had been of great help during his first battle against Kaudan, and he hoped to be able to put it to use again during today's battle.
Once he had realized that the bond with Greninja felt very similar to the aura bond he shared with Lucario, Ash had decided to train the three of them together in order to improve and strengthen those bonds, and also to improve his own Aura handling. .
With the training, which basically consisted of meditating, focusing on controlling his aura, and connecting with Lucario and Greninja, Ash felt that his abilities had improved a lot. He still wasn't anywhere near Riley or Sir Aaron, but if he concentrated he could sense the presence of another Pokémon, just as he did whike helping Bulbasaur during the battle with Kaudan.
So far he still hadn't managed to generate perfect synchronization with Lucario, but his link through the aura was getting stronger, he was sure they would soon. With Greninja the synchronization was easier and easier, in just a second and almost effortlessly Greninja-Ash could be present, and once in its synchronized form the bond was stronger and more stable than ever
Ash suspected that this was due to his own improvement in controlling the aura, making the connection in both directions more fluid and easier.
- Hello guys, I would like to be able to train a little before today's battle, and thus be prepared in case it is necessary - Ash said to his Pokémon, sitting on the ground to be comfortable - Pikachu, could you help us?
- Pike!
In most of the training sessions, Pikachu hadn't been present, but the ones he had helped out, he'd done so by constantly moving and changing position around the room, to help Ash practice being able to detect his location through his Aura
With only 10 minutes left before the start of the battle, Ash heard someone knocking on the door.
- Ash? - Frank said, opening the door and peeking into the room
Ash, with a smile on his face, opened his eyes and without moving from his place answered
- Hi Frank, what's up?
- Oh, sorry... I didn't want to interrupt - Frank said alarmed when he realized that Ash had been meditating or something like that
- Don't worry, we were already finishing anyway - answered Ash, now standing up - Thanks guys - he said before returning them to their Pokeballs - What's going on?"
- I just came to tell you that the battle is about to begin, everything is ready
- Great, so am I.
- Ash, were you meditating?
- Something like that, why?
- Nothing... Do you always do it before a battle? - asked Frank - If so, to know and not interrupt you again
- I don't always do it... But maybe I'll start doing it... - Ash said thoughtfully - but don't worry, I'll let you know if I don't want to be interrupted
- Ok... I'll go tell them that you're ready
- Thank you Frank
"Good afternoon Alola! Today we are on Ula-Ula Island to witness the third exhibition battle of our Manalo festival.
Just like the previous days, we are broadcasting live for all regions.
Our first contestant for today is kahuna Nanu!" Said the announcer
The audience applauded enthusiastically, although due to Nanu's somewhat apathetic nature, not many people knew him.
"And fighting him we have Ash Ketchum! The reigning Manalo conference champion!"
The public this time did applaud enthusiastically, each time Ash ñ battle has been causing more people to start admiring him
"We are all excited about this battle, it will surely be a very exciting battle
As in the previous battles, this battle will be 3 vs 3, with no time limit and substitutions will be allowed on both sides."
- Let's start - Kukui said, who was again the referee - Release your Pokemon!
- Krookodile, your turn
- Squirtle I choose you
- A Squirtle, huh?... Don't underestimate me boy
- You shouldn't underestimate my Squirtle - Ash replied - Bubbles!
- Mud- slap!
Both attacks collided in the middle of the field, neutralizing each other.
- Sand Tomb
The attack was very fast, and Squirtle got caught in the sand trap.
- Rapid Spin Squirtle! Maximum speed - Ash yelled
As soon as Squirtle began to spin, a large cloud of sand began to form, and the faster he spun the bigger it got. The cloud began to transform into a whirlwind of sand, and soon into a sandstorm that covered the entire field.
- Great Squirtle, keep it up a little longer - Ash said
- Attention Krookodile, as soon as the sand dissipates I want you to occupy counterattack - said Nanu, who could hardly see his own Pokémon
- Excellent Squirtle, that will do! - Ash said, stopping the fast turn
The sandstorm that Squirtle had created was so big, that when he stopped the attack, the sand didn't dissipate immediately... Just what Ash had planned.
Squirtle could see through the smoke, thanks to his training as a firefighter, but with the sand it was different, especially if it entered his eyes... but it didn't matter, Ash was prepared.
- Now Squirtle, headbutt! right in front of you
- What?! dodge it! - Nanu said, but Krookodile couldn't dodge the attack, since he didn't know where it came from. Hearing that his Pokémon had taken the attack, he added-- keep moving, don't let it attack you again
- I'm sorry, but that won't do any good... To your right!
- But...
- Flip and then diagonally to your left!
Nanu, Krookodile and the audience in the stands were all very surprised. They heard Ash giving orders to Squirtle, and Krookodile groaning in pain every time he received the attack, but no one could see what was really happening.
-Once again, he is right in front of you! - Ash said quickly, without giving Krookodile time to react.
- Dodge it!!
- Very well! - Ash said, hearing Krookodile complain. Noticing that the sand was beginning to dissipate, Ash added - Turn 90 to your left and use water gun!
Just a few seconds later the sandstorm completely dissipated, and those present could finally see what was happening on the battlefield. Squirtle was in the middle of the field, standing looking at an unconscious Krookodile
- But how... - Nanu said confused
- Krookodile can't continue! - surprised announced Kukui
- I told you not to underestimate my Squirtle.
"Again, as we saw in the battle against the Kahuna Kaudan, Ash manages to perform blind attacks against his opponents, hitting them very efficiently! And that's not the only surprising thing, his Pokémon seem to trust him completely, since that they manage to do what Ash orders them without problems. Really amazing" said the announcer
The public, very confused with what happened, was slow to react but after listening to the commentator they burst into applause
- How did Ash know where Krookodile was? I could not see anything - said Sophocles
- Maybe from where he was you could see a little more - suggested Lana
-But in that case Krookodile would also have been able to see, and he would have managed to dodge the attacks...- Kiawe said
"Will it be possible?" Misty thought. Misty thought she had an idea of what had happened, but since she wasn't sure, and she didn't know if Ash wanted the others to know about it, she decided to stay silent.
- How could Ash know where Krookodile was? - Frank asked Mr. Goodshow.
- I don't know, although I have a suspicion...
- Huh?
- But I think we'll have to wait for Ash to tell us.
- I don't know how it was possible for you to know the location of Krookodile, but you won't catch me by surprise again...- Nanu said, taking out a second PokeBall - Sableye!
- Squirtle, come back for now, good job - Ash said, returning the Pokémon - Quilava, your turn!
- Shadow Ball!
- Swift!
Just like at the beginning of the previous round, both attacks neutralized each other.
- Shadow Claw! One after another
- Flame Wheel! Don't let it get to you
Quilava, enveloped in a sphere of fire, began spinning around the battlefield dodging multiple shadow claw attacks.
- End with Tackle! - Ash said
Quilava made a quick turn to change direction, in order to tackle Sableye full on. Upon receiving the attack, Sableye was sent several meters back, standing right in front of Nanu.
- Use Shadow sneak!, multiple attack
Hearing Nanu's order, Ash couldn't help but smile, again Nanu was doing just what he wanted. Ash perfectly remembered that Nanu had given the same order during their great trial battle, and that the attack had hit Lycanroc many times from different directions...so he was prepared to defend himself.
- Countershield!
- Counter... What? - Nanu asked, confused.
The public was just as confused as Nanu
- Countershield? I had never heard that attack... - said Mallow
- I'm not surprised, it's Ash's invention - replied Misty
- And it's fabulous - added Goh
"Ash ordered Quilava to perform CounterShield... But what move will that be?" the commentator said
At that moment Quilava began to perform his version of the move that Buizel had taught him. Just like Buizel, Quilava dove backwards to the ground to start spinning while using flamethrowers. The flames swirling around him smoothly neutralized the attack.
- What the hell is that... - Nanu said, beginning to get frustrated - Shadow Ball without stopping!
The Counter Shield easily withstood the new wave of attacks, generating small explosions with each collision.
"The Counter Shield is awesome! Sableye's attacks can't even get close to Quilava!" Said the announcer, very excited
The audience was in ecstasy, very amazed at Ash's strategy.
- It's amazing! - Kiawe said, who couldn't control his emotion
- I told you - Goh said.
Nanu, who was very amazed, but was beginning to lose patience, ordered
- Mean Look! - Nanu hoped that the CounterShield could not protect Quilava from that attack
Ash, seeing that Quilava was already getting tired of spinning, decided to deal the final blow
- Smoke Counter Shield! - Ash said.
Quilava continued to spin, but changed the flamethrower for the smoke screen, this caused the entire field to be quickly covered by a dense layer of smoke, and make mean face uneffective
- Damn, not again - Nanu said quietly, suspecting that Ash would attack blindly again
And just as Nanu suspected, Ash's order was quickly made
- Stop! Aerial Ace to your left! - Ash ordered, knowing that if he used flamethrower or swift he would reveal Quilava's location.
- Dodge! - Nanu ordered desperately
Quilava managed to land the attack just before the cloud of smoke dissipated, at which point Ash continued with the attack.
- End with a Eruption!
Since Quilava was very close to Sableye, Nanu didn't have time to react before his second Pokémon was defeated me.
- Sableye can no longer continue! - Kukui announced.
- Good job Quilava, thank you very much - Ash said, returning his Pokemon
"And with an unexpected change in the Counter Shield, Ash manages to defeat Sableye"
- Persian, to battle - Nanu said releasing his last pokemon
- Squirtle!
- Squirtle again? - Nanu wondered confused - Power Gem!
- Water Gun to the ground and then Hydropump to wet the whole field!
With great agility, Squirtle dodged the attack and rose over the field thanks to the water gun, and with his hydropump he wet the entire field, just as Ash wanted. Due to the large amount of sand and loose soil, product of the previous battles, the terrain was very unstable, with large pools of mud everywhere.
- Excellent Squirtle, come back - Ash said, returning Squirtle, and releasing his next Pokémon - Gible, I choose you!
- Power Gem! - ordered Nanu again
- Dig! - ordered Ash, knowing that the new conditions of the battlefield would not affect Gible
Gible quickly obeyed, hiding underground. A few seconds later only his fin was visible, simulating the attack of a Sharpeedo
- Here it comes! Keep an eye on him... When he's close enough, attack with Dark Pulse! - Nanu said to her Pokémon
Persian watched very carefully the Pokémon that was quickly approaching him, he just needed it to get a little closer to be able to launch his attack...
- Now Gible, disappear! - Ash said, noticing that Gible was about to reach the point where Persian could attack
Gible obeyed immediately, and his fin disappeared from everyone's sight, only the noise of Gible advancing under the field could be heard.
- Shit! Use Night Slash to make him come out!
Persian, not really knowing where Gible was, started randomly attacking the field, trying to catch him by accident. While Persian was distracted attacking the battlefield multiple times without result, Ash took advantage of the fact that Gible was as far away from Persian as possible to give a new order
- Draco Meteor!
Gible quickly came out from under the ground, just on the other side of where Persian was, and launched the powerful attack towards the sky.
- Dodge them!
Persian tried to jump and dodge the meteors that began to fall on the field, but the mud pools and the multiple holes he had create made him trip several times and be very slow to escape, taking great damage.
- Ugh! I didn't want to have to come to this... Come on Persian, Black Hole Eclipse! Nanu ordered, performing her dark Z move
- Gible, Full Power Dragon Pulse!
Gible launched a large sphere of energy that collided with the black hole, generating a large explosion. When the powder cloud dissipated, Persian was still on his feet, very tired, but holding on; and Gible was nowhere to be seen...
- Bite!
Gible came out from under the field to hit the attack directly. Persian tried to get rid of him, but without success.
- Night slash!
In a quick reaction, Persian managed to land the blow, sending Gible to Ash's feet.
- Are you okay?
- Gable!
- Great... Now, as we practiced Dragon Pulse followed by Rock Smash!
Gible started to charge the Dragon Pulse, but instead of launching it he swallowed it. This caused Gible's body to absorb the energy and begin to glow an intense green. Gible quickly took advantage of the fact that Nanu and Persian were too stunned to react, and he ran towards Persian to land a very strong Rock Punch.
- Persian can no longer continue! And the winner is Ash Ketchum! - Kukui concluded.
"And with a spectacular ending Ash Ketchum defeats Nanu. What a great battle!.
Remember that in a few minutes Ash will be signing autographs and taking photos with those who want to go say hello to him.
As many of you have already seen in the TV commercials, tomorrow there will be a special competition in the Battle Royale stadium, you can't miss it! We will have many participants, including Ash and the Masked Royale!
On Sunday we will have the last exhibition battle between Olivia and Ash, but don't be discouraged, because next week is full of surprises and more activities, the Manalo Festival is not over yet!
Thank you all for coming today." The announcer said goodbye
- Great battle Ash - said Kukui, approaching
- Thank you Professor - answered Ash, who was crouched down petting Gible - Great job Gible, thank you very much
- It was a good battle, although I still don't know how you could know the location of my Pokémon - said Nanu
-Uhm... I could... Feel it - Ash said, trying not to give it much importance, he didn't want everyone to find out and ruin his plans for the battles of the following days
- Feel it? ... You're still as weird as always boy...- Nanu said, before turning around and leaving the field
- Have you been training for tomorrow's Battle Royale? Kukui asked.
- Of course
- I'm glad, because with Incineroar we won't let you win so easily
- I didn't expect you to do it Professor, although I'm not so sure I can beat you... You are an expert in Royale battles
- We will have to give our best effort to find out
- Sure!
Ash and Kukui left the battlefield, Kukui walking away to the right, while Ash went to his dressing room.
Upon entering he met Mr. Goodshow who was waiting for him
- Hello Ash, very good battle
- Thank you
- I think we were all very surprised that you could tell Krookodile's location so easily
- Um... I...
- Don't worry - interrupted Mr Goodshow - You don't need to explain it to me, I can imagine how you managed it...
- Really?
- Of course, remember that I know your qualities well... I know about your trip to Riota, for example...
- Oh...
- But I'm afraid that if you keep doing things like that during your battles, sooner or later you'll have to explain them to the public - explained Mr Goodshow - if you don't, the press will start inventing all kinds of crazy theories... In that case it's always better to explain things from the beginning, later it is much harder to convince them that you are telling the truth and not just making excuses
- Yes, I understand... I didn't mean to keep it a secret forever... But I would like to wait at least until after the closing battle of the Festival... Ash said smiling - I have something special planned for that day
- Really?
- Yes, I still need to confirm some details... But I think it will be very special. As soon as I have everything ready I will inform you of the changes
- Changes?
- Yes, if everything goes well... I would like to make some changes with respect to what was initially planned for that day
- Oh ok ..
At that moment there was a knock at the door, and Frank was heard from the other side
- I can come in?
- Sure Frank - Ash replied
- Very good battle Ash - Frank said as he entered and closed the door behind him
- Thank you Frank
- Your friends want to come by and say hi - Frank reported.
- Oh, of course... I haven't formally introduced them to you yet... - Ash said, realizing his mistake.
- Don't worry, that's better to leave it until after Monday's announcement - said Mr Goodshow
- Oh, it's fine
- Everything is ready for photos and autographs, the activity starts in a few minutes
- Ok, I'll go right away
- I leave now Ash, see you tomorrow at the Royale stadium
- You will be there?
- Sure! I have never seen a battle Royale in person - said Mr. Goodshow - I hope you can defeat Kukui
- The truth is I'm not so sure I can do it, Professor Kukui is really good
- We'll have to wait until tomorrow then to find out - said Mr. Goodshow, before leaving with Frank.
As soon as they left, Misty and the others entered the dressing room to congratulate Ash.
- Congratulations Ash! - said cheerful Mallow
- Damn Ash, you're sweeping the floor with the Kahunas - Kiawe said, very excited
- Well, he had already beaten everyone before, right? Sophocles said.
- It's true, and the battle with Nanu was 3 vs 1, I'm not surprised that Ash won again - Lana said
- Thanks guys ..-Ash thanked - but the truth is that since I had already battle them, planning a strategy is much easier than when is an unknown trainer
- Regardless of that, it was a great strategy Ash - said Goh - although I still don't understand how you managed to know the location of Krookodile
- It's true... How did you know? Kiawe asked.
- I'm afraid I can't tell you yet - Ash said with a serious tone, with the intention that the others wouldn't insist on it.
Before the others could protest, someone knocked on the door.
- Ash? - Frank said, peeking through the door - we must start with the autographs
- Yeah... Let's go Pikachu - Ash said, standing up - Sorry guys, see you later
As soon as Ash left the room, Misty decided to try and change the subject.
- So, what do you want to do while we wait for Ash?
- I'd like to get to know the Island a little... - said Goh - but if you want to go to the festival, I'll go with you
- I think we have already enjoyed the festival enough, we are going to tour - said Kiawe
Ash really enjoyed this autograph session, despite having a growing headache forming behind his eyes. Most of the fans had been young children, who were very excited to meet him and get to play with his Pokémon. For Ash, time had passed very quickly, and without realizing it, the line of people had ended.
- That was all for today Ash - Frank said, starting to order all the things
- Really? That was fast ..
- Fast? You spent two hours taking pictures and playing with the children
- Oh, I didn't realize..
- Haha, it was clear that you were enjoying it... Just like the children
- Yeah... - Ash said, helping Frank to tidy up - Frank, how's the letters going?
- Well, I already sent them .. and I gave clear instructions not to be delivered before 11:30 am
- Great, thanks... but actually I'll need another favor with the letters... I decided to send them to the gang here in Alola
- Oh, and you think they won't find out?
-I hope so.. we also have a plan with Misty to make sure that everyone is at their house watching the press conference.
- Do you have them ready?
- Yes, I could deliver them to you tomorrow
- Ok, don't worry, I'll take care of it.
- Thank you Frank
When everything was in order, Ash went back to his dressing room to go get his things. Noticing how late it was, Ash pulled out his cell phone and started typing.
"Ash: Where are you?
I'm done, I'll take my Pokémon to the Pokémon Center.
See you there? So we can go home soon"
"Misty: Finally! We are touring the island, we will see you there later"
Ash and his Pokémon were already ready and waiting for the others for a long time, when Ash finally saw them enter the Pokémon center
- Great, we can go now - Ash said when he saw the others - the ferry leaves in 20 minutes
- Ok... How were the photos? - Misty asked, a little surprised with Ash's reaction.
-Excellent, most of them were children, we had a lot of fun - Ash answered, while he stood up and took his things - come on or the Ferry will leave without us
- Actually Ash, we were thinking that maybe it would be better to stay here tonight and go straight to Akala tomorrow - Kiawe replied
- What?
- It's already quite late... So we think it's best to make the direct trip tomorrow - said Mallow
- I know it's late... That's why I've been waiting impatiently for you to arrive before the last Ferry leaves - Ash said a little annoyed - you could have told me before, instead of keeping me here waiting for more than an hour
- Ash ...
- If you had told me that you planned to stay, I would have left a long time ago...- Ash said. After taking a deep breath to calm down a bit, he added, - Stay, but I have to go. See you tomorrow. Come on Pikachu
- Ash wait! - Misty said running after him
The others were too stunned at Ash's reaction to go after them, they just stared at the door in silence.
- Ash!
- I'm sorry Misty, but the Ferry will be leaving soon, and it's the last one for today
- Why can't you stay?
- Because I have things to do
- Ash, just stop for a second! - Misty said, taking Ash's hand to make him stop - something happened?
- No, nothing happens
- Then why are you upset?
- I'm not really upset,... or I wasn't... I'm just tired and with an annoying headache, which only got worse by waiting for you for so long and for no reason
- Sorry for not letting you know, I didn't think it would take so long to get back
- Okay... But I really have to go... tell the others that I'm sorry. See you tomorrow - Ash said goodbye, kissing her before turning around and continuing on his way
- Wait! I will go with you
- No... In fact it would be better if you stayed with the others... I have several things I need to do tomorrow before going to Akala
- Oh, ok... - Misty replied, somewhat disappointed.
Seeing Misty's face, Ash took her hand and said goodbye again.
- Good night - Ash said goodbye with a kiss
As soon as Ash walked away, Misty turned around and headed towards the Pokémon Center, to try to explain what had happened to the others.
- Misty! What happened to Ash? - Lana asked.
- Why was he so upset? Sophocles asked.
-He asked me to apologize to you... he wasn't really upset, he's just tired and with a headache... Waiting for us only worsened his mood... And he exploded as soon as he realized he could have left a while ago ...
- Still, he shouldn't have taken it out on us - Kiawe said.
- It's true... that's why he asked me to tell you he's sorry - said Misty
-Oh, poor thing... having so many activities this week have had him very stressed - said Mallow
- It's true... Yesterday he was also in a bad mood - Sophocles said.
- But yesterday was our fault... - Mallow reminded them
- I thought you'd go with him - said Goh, who was very surprised with Ash. In the short time that he had known him he had never seen him act as upset or serious as he had in the last few days,
- Yes, it was my idea... But he has things to do tomorrow before going to Akala, so it didn't make sense for me to accompany him - Misty said, trying to change the subject - Well, how about we go find something for dinner?
- Sure!
Ash managed to get to the Ferry just in time, and to his liking the Ferry was almost empty so he was able to enjoy the trip in silence, which along with the cold night wind helped ease his headache a bit.
"Ugh... I think I need more training before I use that technique so many times during a battle" Ash thought, as he massaged his aching temples
Arriving home, he ate the dinner Evan had prepared for him and then decided to go to bed early. He knew it would be best to train again a bit with Lucario and Greninja, but he doubted he could concentrate enough with the headache he had. Therefore, his best option was to go to bed early and thus have an early start the next morning.
A couple of hours earlier in a secret hideout in Kanto
- I can't believe we still don't have clues where that twerp and his Pikachu are - Jessie said angrily
- We haven't seen him for many days - added Meowth
- Since he is with that professor, he travels to many places, he may be back soon - said James
- We haven't seen him in almost three weeks - Jessie said.
- That's odd, whenever he goes on a trip he comes back a couple of days later - added James
- Maybe we should go to the lab and find out what that twerp is up to - Meowth suggested
- What a great idea! - Jessie said, settling down and taking the remote control of the TV
- Why do you turn on the TV? Didn't we say we would go to that lab? - asked James surprised
- Of course we'll go... Tomorrow - Jassie replied, as she changed the channel in search of something entertaining to watch.
- Stop! - said Meowth - return a channel.
- The twerp ! - the three yelled at the same time
- It's a battle against that guy from Alola - said Jessie
- Yes, the contact of the boss who gave us the Z Ring
- Turn up the volume to find out what's going on - said Meowth
"Again, as we saw in the battle against the Kahuna Kaudan, Ash manages to perform blind attacks against his opponents, hitting them very efficiently! And that's not the only surprising thing, his Pokémon seem to trust him completely, since that they manage to do what Ash orders them without problems. Really amazing" said the TV announcer
- I don't remember seeing this battle before - said James
- Which means it's live streaming- said Meowrh
- Apparently the twerp is winning - said Jessie
- But why are they having a battle? The twerp already won the big trial against that Kahuna - James asked.
- I don't know... But apparently it's not as strong as he said... The twerp just defeated his second Pokémon and in a very easy way - said Meowth, who carefully observed the battle
- At least we know where that twerp and his Pikachu are - said Jessie
Team Rocket was silent as they watched the end of the battle
"And with a spectacular ending Ash Ketchum defeats Nanu. What a great battle!.
Remember that in a few minutes Ash will be signing autographs and taking photos with those who want to go say hello to him
As many of you have already seen in the TV commercials, tomorrow there will be a special competition in the Battle Royale stadium, you can't miss it! We will have many participants, including Ash and the Masked Royale!
On Sunday we will have the last exhibition battle between Olivia and Ash, but don't be discouraged, because next week is full of surprises and more activities, the Mánalo Festival is not over yet!
Thank you all for coming today." The announcer said goodbye
Jessie turned off the TV and looked carefully at the others.
- I think it's time to go back to Alola - Jessie said with a gloomy tone
- That's right... It's time to go give that festival a special touch - added James
- Besides, I don't know what that idiot thinks giving autographs - said Jessie - but we'll teach them a lesson when we've stolen all their Pokemon
- That's right!
- Wobboffet!

Thanks for reading, and for all your reviews
For those who have reading carefully, you will remember that Ash, Lucario and Greninja have been doing a special training for several chapters... Today we saw a little about it...
To my surprise in this week's cepisode 108 we will probably see something similar to what I had planned from the beginning... That has me very excited, although a little sad that I didn't get to write it before it happened in the anime.
The same thing happens with episode 110 and the Battle Royale, which from the beginning was in the program that Professor Kukui sends to Ash.
What do you think? Should Ash win the Battle Royale battles?... (I think for the next chapter I could be inspired by episode 110... but with the Pokémon I already had planned...)
UltimateCCC: May meant that Ash's Bulbasaur had given her a great idea
Genbo: I did not include Chloe, because the story takes place right after Eternatus, and until then Chloe had hardly appeared in the anime, with very little screen time and not main character yet, and still without much interest in Pokémon
