MONDAY
The big day
Despite being Monday, Ash woke up early and full of energy. He had woken up a few minutes before his alarm went off, and had gone to take a nice shower to start the day in the best way.
He had then dressed in his usual outfit, and had put his official Champion outfit in his backpack, so he could change later in the office before the start of the press conference.
When Ash was ready he woke up Pikachu to go downstairs to have breakfast together. Leaving his room, he ran into Misty, who was walking down the hall towards him. Misty was still in her pajamas and she seemed to have woken up only a few minutes ago.
- Good morning - Ash said, approaching Misty
- Hello... I see you're ready now - Misty said, giving him a good morning kiss on the cheek - I was going to check that you hadn't overslept
- I woke up a while ago... Even before the alarm went off
- Did you have a lot of trouble falling asleep last night?
- Not really... After you went to bed, I went to talk to my Pokémon for a while... That calmed me down a lot and I was able to fall asleep right away
- Oh, I'm glad
At that moment Goh came out of his room, also in his pajamas and with a sleepy face.
- Hello... - said Goh, with a big yawn - Why are you up so early?
- I have to meet with Mr. Goodshow before the press conference
- Oh...
- Are you going downstairs for breakfast? - Ash asked.
- Yes, I'll go with you - replied Misty
- I'll be right there - said Goh, who went to the bathroom at the end of the corridor
- Come on, I want to ask you and Evan something before Goh goes down - Ash said in a low voice, taking Misty by the hand to guide her to the kitchen
- Good morning guys - Evan said, seeing them enter the kitchen
- Hi Evan - Ash said - I need to ask you a favor before Goh goes down
- What favor? Misty asked.
- My Pokémon want to watch the press conference... - Ash said - Misty, could you keep Goh in the upstairs luonge?... Evan, could you move the TV that is in the downstairs lounge so they can watch? .. The announcement will be made at the beginning, so just try to keep it a secret for a little while
- I think we can do it without problem - said Evan
- Don't worry, we'll take care of it - Misty said, just in time... Goh was coming into the kitchen
- Good morning Evan - said Goh - Are you leaving soon?
- Yes, as soon as I finish breakfast - answered Ash
- Do you need a ride? Evan asked.
- If you can, it would be great - answered Ash
- Sure, no problem
- Great, thanks - Ash said - What will you do this morning?
- I'll read and enjoy the pool, and then go up to see the press conference - said Misty
- I was thinking of going to explore and look for Pokémon... And then go to the restaurant later - answered Goh
- What? Won't you watch the press conference? - Ash asked.
- Um... No? - said Goh - I'm really not that interested in knowing the details of the league
- Oh... - Ash replied, somewhat disappointed. He hadn't counted on the fact that Goh wasn't interested in watching the press conference.
- But... - Misty said, not knowing what to say without ruining the secret - It's something important to Ash... You should support him!
Seeing Ash's disappointed face, and Misty's angry face, Goh decided to change his mind.
- ... I think I better go explore around here so I can get back in time to see the press conference
- Thanks Goh - Ash said with sincerity
After breakfast, Ash went up to his room to get his backpack, in which he remembered to put his cell phone charger... he had a suspicion that he would need it later
Arriving at the office, Ash was met by a very busy Frank
- Good morning Ash.
- Good morning Frank, how's everything going?
- Very well, almost everything is ready in the press room... We just need to do sound and camera tests.
- Oh .. What time do they start to arrive?
- The press will start arriving at 11
- Ok... Did the badges arrive?
- Yes, the badges have arrived, I left them in your office - Frank said - along with a couple of new gym leader application forms
- Great, thank you very much
- Mr. Goodshow is working in the small office next to mine. He wants to talk to you before the meeting that you two have later
- Okay...
Arriving in front of the door to the small office, Ash knocked on the door before peeking into the room.
- Good morning
- Good morning Ash, I'm glad you arrived on time
- Frank said you wanted to talk to me?
- That's right... You remember that a few days ago Frank gave you your contract so you could read it calmly...
- Oh, yes... It's true, I forgot to give it back to him
- Do you agree with all the clauses then?
- Of course I do - Ash answered. The contract was more than generous with him.
- Excellent, could you bring it? I must also sign it and send a digital copy to the office before the announcement
- Oh sure. I bring it right away
Ash went into his office looking for the contract that he had left in one of his desk drawers.
- Pikachu, you can stay here or in the lounge room, as you wish... But later you will accompany me to the press conference
- Pi Pika Pikapi!
- Thanks buddy, I'll be right back.
Pikachu knew (and could tell) that Ash was very anxious... Happy, but anxious... So he preferred to stay with him this morning, to help calm him down a bit.
- Here it is - Ash said, handing the contract to Mr. Goodshow
- Excellent
- Where will we have the meeting later?
- In the conference room on the second floor
- In the big one? Will more people come?
- No, it will be just the two of us, but this way we won't be distracted by the noise on the first floor... The arrival of the press tends to be a bit noisy
- Oh I see
- I have another meeting just before ours, it's by video call... As soon as it's ready I'll let you know so you can come in
- Ok... I'll be up then
Ash went back into his office. On his desk were several papers that he hadn't left there (probably the application forms) and a small silver box.
Ash sat down at the desk and opened the box, eager to see the badges. Inside were the four badges. Even though Ash had already seen his design, in person they looked much prettier than the sketch they had seen the other day.
They all had a beautiful silver border that shone in the sunlight coming through the window, bringing out the characteristic colors of each Tapu.
Ash took one of them and carefully separated it in two. As they had discussed the other day at the meeting, the badges were separated into two halves, but in a very subtle way, once both parts were joined, the separation was not noticeable.
- They are perfect - Ash said
- Pi Pika! - agreed Pikachu, who was on the desk admiring the badges with him
- I would have liked very much to win one of these
- Pi...
Ash put the badge back in the box, and began going through the forms that Frank had left on his desk. There were three of them, and just like the other day, Ash began to make notes as he read
He had only managed to check two of them when he was interrupted by the ringing of his phone.
Ash answered the phone on his desk, it was Mr. Goodshow
- Ash, I'm ready, could you come to the meeting room please
- Sure, I'll be right there - Ash said, hanging up the phone - let's go Pikachu
Mr. Goodshow was in the small office next to Frank's, going through some reports he had received in his email, when Ash walked in with his contract in hand.
As soon as it's ready I'll let you know so you can come in
- Ok... I'll be up then
As soon as Ash left, Mr. Goodshow headed to the meeting room to start his video call.
Once in the room, Mr. Goodshow turned on the computer and the giant screen. Just a few minutes later, the faces of those who would accompany him in this meeting, the Champions, appeared on the giant screen.
- Good morning everyone - said Mr. Goodshow
- Good morning - answered the 6 Regional Champions
- I hope that everybody are very well. You may be wondering why I called you to a meeting today, when our monthly meeting is next week.
- Any special reason? - Cynthia asked.
- Of course! - answered Mr. Goodshow - as you know I am in the Alola region
- Yes, I have seen that a festival is taking place - said Lionel
- That's right, to publicize the Alola League, which is still very new... - explained Mr. Goodshow - it has only been done once
- With the battles that have been broadcast on ,tv, surely many trainers will be encouraged to participate - Lance said
- I think so, those battles have been quite a show - added Diantha
- Typical of Ash - said Iris and Cynthia at the same time
- Do you also know Ash? - Steven asked surprised.
- Of course - they all answered at the same time.
- Haha I'm glad to know that everyone knows Ash - said Mr. Goodshow, with a knowing smile - but we'll have to leave that conversation for later. Now I wanted to tell you about some news that will be announced today
- The new modality of the Alola League will be announced, right? - Cynthia said.
- Yes, but not only that will be announced, but also the first Champion of the Alola Region will be presented - said Mr. Goodshow
- But... If the league has only been held once... And there's no Elite 4 or anything... How can there be a Champion? - Iris asked.
Iris was relatively new to being a Champion, she had achieved it after a lot of training and defeating the Elite 4 and Alder
- Since it is a new League, the Champion is assigned - explained Mr. Goodshow - Assigned by me and by the local authorities, in this case the Kahunas and Professor Kukui
- What will happen to the Elite 4? - asked Lance
- Alola doesn't have many well-known trainers or strong enough to fill those slots. So we will leave them vacant for the time being, at least until more local trainers become known - said Mr. Goodshow
- So there will only be a Champion? - Lionel asked.
- That's right, for a while at least - answered Mr. Goodshow.
- I guess you already picked someone - Lance said.
- That's right
- I have a question... If there are no trainers to have an Elite 4... How did you find a Champion? - Iris asked.
- That is a very good question - said Mr. Goodshow - Normally in these cases someone from another region is chosen, to act as Champion until some local trainer is ready to challenge him for the title
- So it's some member of the Elite 4 or gym leader of one of the regions - Steven concluded
- No, it is not...
- A frontier brain? - Diantha asked.
- Nope...
-But then... Is he really strong enough to be Champion?
- Oh, of course he is... I've been at this for many, many years, and I can easily tell a Champion when I see one - said Mr. Goodshow
- Will you tell us who he is? - asked Lance
-Oh, sure... he's a great trainer, who I've known for several years. He has participated in several leagues and in the battle frontier
- Participated? So he hasn't won any? - Steven asked.
-He has won in some, and in the others he has made a great performance - replied Mr. Goodshow - Despite this, his ability in battle is indisputable
- But why choose him and not one of our Elite 4? - Diantha asked.
-Despite being young, he has great leadership, and a great sense of justice. He has faced different criminal organizations on more than one occasion, always trying to protect people and Pokémon. And I can safely say that he has more than once protected a Legendary Pokémon from his evil plans. Or on some occasions he has protected people from the attack of a legendary Pokémon
- But who is this great trainer? Surely we would have heard from him if he had done everything you say - said Lionel
- He has done that and much more during these years, but I have been concerned to keep his exploits away from the press and the public
- Why? - Iris asked.
-He is still very young... The story of an 11-year-old boy saving the world would have been irresistible to the press and people would not have left him alone... Or it would have put him in danger
- 11 years? How old is he now? - asked Lance
-Almost 18... And since the beginning of his journey he has been performing feats like that
-What region is he from? - asked Cynthia interested
-From Kanto - said Mr Goodshow with a complicit smile - Now, if you have finished with your questions, I will call him to be able to introduce you
Mr. Goodshow turned off the microphone on his computer so the others couldn't hear what he was going to do. He picked up the phone and called Ash's office.
- Ash, I'm ready, could you come to the meeting room please
- Sure, I'll be right there - Ash said, hanging up the phone
Mr. Goodshow turned the microphone back on and said
-He's already on his way, he must be about to walk through that door
Mr Goodshow had his computer camera pointed in such a way that not only was he visible on the screen, but the door behind him was also clearly visible
Just then the door opened, and Ash, with Pikachu on his shoulder, entered the room.
-;Mr. Goodshow... Ash began to say as he entered, but he was interrupted by a loud scream. Many people had called out his name at once
- Ash?! - shouted all the champions at once
Ash, taken aback by hearing his name, looked up and searched around. As soon as his eyes found the giant screen a big smile formed on his face.
- Hi everybody how are you? - Ash said, looking closely at the faces of the champions, but what about Alder? - Iris?!
- Haha, sit down Ash - said Mr. Goodshow, seeing the astonished and bewildered faces of the 7 champions - Iris is the Champion of Unova... Didn't you know?
- Nope! How? When? Why didn't you tell me? - Ash asked.
- Hi Ash - replied Iris
- Iris has only been Champion for a few weeks... She has been having battles with the strongest of Unova for some time now, and recently she defeated Alder - explained Mr. Goodshow - but there will be time for you to catch up, now we must talk about you
- About me?... Wait a minute, why didn't I know about Iris? - Ash asked.
-I don't know... I guess you never saw the news - said Mr. Goodshow - as Iris was having several battles to get her title... The media impact was not so big at once, but anyway there was coverage for all regions
- Oh... I'm sorry Iris... Congratulations!
- Haha, thanks Ash - Iris said - Now let's get back to the important thing... Are you the Alolan Champion?
- That's right, in addition to everything I said before, Ash has great appreciation for the region and its people, with great respect for its traditions - explained Mr. Goodshow - And being the first champion of the League, it makes a lot of sense that he is the new Champion
Mr. Goodshow watched the screen carefully, observing the reaction of the Champions
- Since everyone knows Ash... Don't you agree with me?
- Of course. Congratulations Ash! I suspected that Mr. Goodshow was talking about you - said Cynthia
- It was just a matter of time for Ash to become Champion - Diantha said - Congratulations Ash!
- It's true - Lance said - Well done Ash!
- Congratulations Ash! - Iris said, very happy - I know you will be a great Champion
- Congratulations Ash! - Steven said - The battles of these last days show that you have great skill in battle
-I'm very happy for you Ash - said Lionel, who had known Ash for a very short time and was still not so sure about his appointment - But, are the stories that Mr. Goodshow told us true? - said Lionel
Lionel had met Ash a few months ago, and he had helped him defeat Eternatus, but saving the world at age 11? Surely it was an exaggeration
- What... What stories? Ash asked somewhat alarmed.
- Don't worry, I didn't give any details... I only mentioned that you had saved the world when you were only 11 years old
-Oh...-Ash said, a little nervous about it, he hated having to answer questions about it
- It's true? - Lionel asked.
- Ehm... yes... - Ash said - On Shamutti Island, when Zapdos, Moltres and Articuno fought with Lugia
Ash knew that the more ambiguous his answers were, the more questions he got. So he decided to answer as best as possible, without giving details, but avoiding being asked more questions.
- Were you involved in that? - Cynthia asked in amazement. With her grandmother they had gone to investigate what happened a few years ago
- Shortly after that it was that you helped me with Team Rocket - Lance said - And to save Kyogre and Groudon from Team Magma and Aqua
- And then you helped us with Team Galactic ...- Cynthia said - with your friends you saved Mesprit, Azelf and Uxie
- Also Meloetta - said Iris - and Victini...
- Not to mention the great crisis of Kalos - said Diantha
- And you also defeat Eternatus... - Lionel said in amazement, apparently it was not an exaggeration
- I see you've seen many legendaries Ash - Steven commented
- Pika pi Pikachu! - Pikachu said, waving his arms to emphasize what he was saying.
- Pikachu...- Ash said, understanding what his Pokémon was saying. Then he look at the other Champions to answer - Haha... Yes... All of them, I think...
- All of them? - Lance asked in amazement.
- Knowing Ash, he became friends with all of the - added Iris - At least that's how it was with the ones we met together...
- Ehm... Yes, with the vast majority that happened...
- Now that you mention it, the same thing happened with Meloetta, and the Lake trio - said Cynthia
- I'm sorry to spoil the moment, but we'll have to leave Ash's fantastic stories for another time - said Mr. Goodshow - The official announcement will be shortly, and there are some things I'd like us to talk about before that
- Sure - they all answered
- As you all know, usually when you become a Champion of a region, the previous Champion helps you to internalize your new title and the different responsibilities and tasks that you have to carry out. - Mr. Goodshow explained - But in Ash's case, there is no previous Champion who can guide him
- Oh..
- Also, you all received a region with a constituted pokemon league... With gym leaders and Elite 4 you could lean on - Mr. Goodshow continued - Again, not Ash's case... Ash will have a lot of work, especially these first few months...
- Oh dear... - said Iris
- That's why I need to ask for your help - Mr. Goodshow said to the other Champions - There are certain aspects and things that a Champion must know, and that I need you to teach Ash
- Of course - said Cynthia - it will be a pleasure to help in any way we can.
- Excellent, once the announcement is made and when we already know the reaction of the press about it, we will coordinate instances so that Ash can meet with each one of you
- What do you mean by the reaction of the press? - Ash asked.
- Well, unlike the others, in this case the press has not had the opportunity to cover your rise from battle to battle, so we have no way of knowing the reaction that the press or the public will have in this regard - explained Mr. Goodshow - but calm down, because you have participated in all the leagues, and since in them you made very good performances, the most sure thing is that your appointment will be very well received
- I hope so... - Ash said, a little nervous. So far he had not thought about how the press or the general public would react.
- Pikapi... - Pikachu said, trying to calm him down.
- Thank you Pikachu
- I just sent an email to all of you with the official contact information for Ash, and also for his assistant Frank - said Mr. Goodshow - as I said, we will have to wait to organize the meetings between you, but for now I want to schedule a meeting on the indigo plateau next Monday afternoon
- Sure - answered the seven Champions, who immediately scheduled the meeting
- Since we'll be in Kanto, maybe I should be the one to meet Ash first - Lance suggested - I guess the others will have to go back to their regions later
- It's a very good idea - said Mr. Goodshow - Do you think you can talk to Ash about the special missions?
- Of course, although knowing Ash I don't know if there is much to teach him about it - Lance said
- Special missions? - Ash asked.
- They are missions that are entrusted to us as Champions, in situations of high danger for Pokémon or citizens - explained Lance
- Like the Kalos crisis - added Diantha
- Or Eternatus's - Lionel said.
- And also like Team Galactic and the Lake trio - said Cynthia
- That's what I meant by Ash already knowing a lot about it - Lance said.
- That's right, Ash has helped on many occasions, but never officially - Mr. Goodshow said - there are still things you could teach him Lance
- Sure, no problem
- Please the others go thinking of some topic you could teach Ash - said Mr. Goodshow - we will leave the meetings established next Monday when we see each other in person
- Okey
- That would be all for the moment, it's getting a little late and we must go to prepare for the press conference - said Mr. Goodshow, starting to say goodbye - thank you all for connecting, see you next Monday
- See you later - they all said, to then begin to disconnect
- Iris wait! - Ash said, just in time to prevent Iris from disconnecting
- Don't be late Ash - said Mr. Goodshow before leaving the room
- What's wrong Ash?
- I am sorry...
- Huh? What for?
- I'm sorry I didn't find out earlier that you were the Champion... And I'm sorry I didn't congratulate you on time.
- It's ok Ash...
- I didn't even see your battles!
- Well, I didn't tell you about them... So it's really not your fault Ash...
- How has it been to be the Champion? - Ash asked.
- Great, although your case is probably different... I haven't had so much administrative work to do
- Surprisingly it hasn't been as difficult as I thought it would be...
- I know you'll do well Ash - said Iris - I'm sure of that...thanks to everything I learned traveling with you and Cilan is that I managed to be Champion. Much of what I achieved is thanks to you... That's why I'm sure you'll do excellent
- Thank you Iris
- Go... You don't want to be late for the press conference.
- Of course not... bye!
- See you on Monday!
As soon as Ash left the room he was met by Professor Kukui and Frank
- Alola Ash
- Alola Professor
- Nervous?
- Just a little... I'm more anxious than nervous... I think - answered Ash - How's everything going Frank?
- Excellent. The press room is ready, most of the journalists are already here, and the official graphics are ready to be distributed as soon as the time is right
- Graphics? - Ash asked.
- Yes, infographics that will show the different television channels and newspapers - explained Frank - we have your graphics, and the new rules of the Alola League
- Oh great
- I have the starters with me as well - Kukui said, showing the Pokeballs on his belt
- Cool. The badges are in my office, they are really beautiful
- Excellent. We are ready then - said Kukui
- I have to go change my clothes - Ash said, looking at the time on his cell phone - but I still have time - see you downstairs
- Sure!
Ash went up to his office so he could change his clothes. He closed the curtains and the door, and careful not to move his shoulder too much, he put on his official attire.
He didn't put on the cap, but he was undecided whether to put on his current cap or just go down without it.
- What do you think Pikachu? With or without a cap?
- Pi Pika
- Yeah, you're right...
While he was thinking, he looked at the time on his cell phone again, there were still 15 minutes left... he was looking at the screen when a message from Misty just arrived
"Misty: Everything will be great today! Enjoy it, it's your special day
Later we will all celebrate together
By the way, Goh's letter just arrived... Haha if the idea was to confuse him, mission accomplished...
Xoxo"
"Ash: Thanks Misty. Xoxo"
Ash wanted to write a lot more, but he didn't really have time for that. He put his cell phone on silent and put it in his pocket. He was likely to receive a lot of calls and messages after the announcement, and he didn't want to interrupt the press conference.
He put on his cap, which he would take off just before the press conference began, and he went to his desk and from one of the drawers he took out the little speech he had written the other day, he took his notebook (where he had written down the different topics that he was supposed to explain today) and the box with the badges.
- Come on Pikachu... It's time
On the first floor everything was ready. The press room was full of journalists from the different regions, about 40 people. On a small stage there was a table with three microphones and three glasses of water. To one side there was a large screen, where the graphics that Frank had prepared would later be shown, and that at the moment only showed the official logo of the Pokemon League
- Ready? - Kukui asked Ash.
- I think so
- Well, let's start - said Mr. Goodshow entering the room
Frank was the first to enter, and being in the center of the stage he addressed the press
- Today's press conference will be chaired by Mr. Goodshow, the highest authority in the Pokemon League. Accompanying him will be Professor Kukui, researcher in charge of the region; and Ash Ketchum, current Manalo Conference champion. They will be helping Mr. Goodshow explain certain things during the press conference.
After this little introduction Ash, Kukui and Mr. Goodshow entered the room. The three of them went to the central table, while Frank went to a small table to one side, which contained a computer with which he could operate the giant screen.
At the center table Kukui, Mr. Goodshow and Ash sat down, leaving Mr. Goodshow in the middle
As soon as the three of them were seated, the room fell silent, waiting for the announcements that would be made today.
- Good afternoon everyone, thank you very much for coming today - said Mr. Goodshow - Today we will have very interesting announcements, so I ask you to leave the questions for the end. In this way we will not have interruptions and it will be easier to explain everything
Everyone in the room nodded, understanding the dynamics of the press conference
- I would like to begin by reflecting on the importance of a region having its Champion - said Mr Goodshow - The regional Champion is not only the strongest trainer in the region, is the one who represents them against other regions, and who watches over the interests and well-being of the people and Pokémon of the region.
All the journalists were looking attentively at Mr. Goodshow, intrigued by the explanation
- A Champion must be more than just someone good in battle, it must be a natural leader, with a clear sense of justice and impeccable morals, someone genuinely concerned about the well-being of others, someone willing to defend and protect those who need him (whether human or Pokemon), someone its people can trust and who inspires the little ones to overcome themselves... That is the true essence of a Champion
Mr. Goodshow made a small dramatic pause, to increase the expectation in the room
- As you know, normally the regional Champion wins his title by defeating the Elite 4 and the current Champion, so the Champion does not always have all the characteristics that I just mentioned... But in the case of Alola, where the league is still very new, the modality is somewhat different - explained Mr. Goodshow - Since there is no possibility of typical battles... The first Regional Champion must be assigned, and this allow us to look for someone who meets all the characteristics that I just named, or perhaps many more.
The atmosphere of calm in the room began to change rapidly, everyone very anxious to know how this statement would go.
- The assignment is made by me, together with the local teacher (in this case Prof. Kukui), and some local authorities (in this case the Kahunas) - explained Mr goodshow - I am happy to inform you that we have already made a decision
All the journalists began to get impatient, this press conference would be more interesting than they had thought.
Ash for his part, was listening carefully to Mr. Goodshow, trying to keep a face as neutral as possible, but with a huge desire to be able to shout from the rooftops that he was the Champion
- Generally when choosing the first Champion of a region, we must look for candidates outside of it. Because the league is new, there are usually not local trainers who are competitive enough and qualified for the title. - said Mr. Goodshow - Normally we look for candidates among the Elite 4 and gym leaders from the other regions, but in this case it was not necessary
The journalists in the room couldn't get over their anxiety, and Mr. Goodshow was enjoying the suspense he was generating with his ambiguous speech.
- Who we have chosen is a great leader and has great skills in battle, he has participated in the leagues of the different regions, being very well positioned in all of them, he also successfully completed the battle frontier in Kanto . He has fought against criminal organizations in the different regions, and has even helped the Pokémon Rangers on more than one occasion. He has always helped those who need it and has a great love for Pokémon... - said Mr. Goodshow - And something fundamental is that he loves Alola and respects the traditions of his people a lot
The journalists in the room were frantically searching their databases for any trainer who might fit the vague description that Mr. Goodshow was giving.
-Last year he helped defend Alola from the attack of the Ultra Beasts...-said Mr. Goodshow, making a new dramatic pause - he dazzled everyone with his performance in the Mánalo Conference and his battle against Tapu Koko ...
Mr.Goodshow made another small pause, which he took the opportunity to look at the journalists present in the room. Most were from the other regions, only about 6 were from Alola. The journalists from the other regions were still waiting expectantly for the announcement, but the locals had already discovered who Mr. Goodshow was talking about, and from the astonished faces on his face, Mr. Goodshow could not be sure if they agreed with the appointment.
- And he has amazed you all with the exhibition battles of this previous week... With you the new Champion of Alola.. ASH KETCHUM!
At that moment Ash put on his cap, showing the world his new logo
Ash had been listening carefully to Mr. Goodshow, trying to control his emotions and keep a neutral face. It hadn't been easy, he had such a mix of emotions that he could barely identify them all. He felt very proud of himself, satisfied for having achieved such a great achievement and confident that together with his Pokémon he could do very well, but he also felt nervous, happy, anxious, excited, worried, and who knows what other emotion were hovering inside him
The reporters in the room were all shocked at the news, after all Ash was a very young trainer.
On the screen Frank had displayed the graphic with Ash's photo and official information.
Ash Ketchum
17 years
Pallet Town - Kanto
Alola League Champion
Kanto Battle Frontier Complete
Kalos League Runner-up
Orange League Champion
- Thank you very much for this appointment, I feel very honored to be the first Regional Champion of Alola - Ash said, beginning with the short speech he had prepared a few days ago - I would like to start by thanking Mr. Goodshow, Prof. Kukui and the Kahunas who trusted in me for this appointment, my family and friends who have always been supporting me, and especially my Pokémon. They are the ones who, thanks to their strength and skill, have made me look as a strong trainer, and they are the ones who have won the battles we've fought... I definitely wouldn't be sitting here without them - Ash said, affectionately stroking Pikachu
- Pikapi...
- I know that this is a surprise for all the inhabitants of Alola, and that perhaps many would have preferred someone local for the position, but I assure you that together with my Pokémon we will give our best effort to be able to represent you in the best way against the others. regions
- Pi Pikachu! - added Pikachu
- And not only that... For about a year I lived in Alola, I met many people here and everyone made me feel at home, they welcomed me and treated me with great care... During that time I was able to enjoy the wonders of Alola and its landscapes, meeting its people and its Pokémon, seeing and living its oldest and most sacred traditions... Without realizing it, Alola became my home, a place that I love dearly and that together with my Pokémon we will protect with all our might.
Like Mr. Goodshow, Ash made a short dramatic pause before continuing.
- I am very anxious and excited to start working... First with everything related to the new version of the Manalo Conference... And also with many ideas that I have for the future - Ash said, looking attentively at the journalists in the room. room - I know some may think that I am not worthy of this title, since I did not earn it properly by not having battles with an Elite 4 or a previous Champion, or simply because I am not from Alola... I hope I can prove to everyone the contrary... During the past week together with Mr. Goodshow, the Kahuna and Prof. Kukui we were working on the new rules of the Alola League, and one of my main concerns was to take in consideration the traditions... I also hope to be able to show you the power of my Pokémon during the final battle of the festival... Thank you
And with this Ash finished his speech, leaving everyone intrigued
The journalists looked at each other, and all at the same time began throwing questions at Ash, despite the initial instructions that there would be no questions until the end of the conference.
- I think it's best to answer some questions now... Or they won't be aware of what we'll talk about later - Kukui said to Mr. Goodshow
- Yes, you're right - answered the latter, who, approaching his microphone, said - Okay, we will have a small round of questions before moving on to the league topics, but it will only be five questions... The rest will have to be left for the end of the conference
Hearing this, all the journalists calmed down, and raised their hands, hoping to be chosen to ask
Mr. Goodshow, used to press conferences, was in charge of choosing the journalists who could ask questions. The first chosen was a blonde girl who was sitting in the second row
- Good afternoon, I'm Ellen from Sinnoh News. - The journalist introduced herself - After the exhibition battles we have seen in recent days, it is clear that Ash is a very good trainer in battle, but Mr Goodshow, is a good idea to leave all the administrative tasks to someone so young, especially in a league that is not yet fully constituted?
- Ash may be young, but he is a very experienced boy. He has participated in the leagues of the different regions and battled with innumerable gym leaders... In addition to having participated on many occasions in battles against criminals - said Mr. Goodshow - Having lived through all these experiences, he knows very well what to do , we were able to verify it during this week of meetings that we had. Many of the ideas that we will explain later were his.
- Ash is someone very proactive, and with very good ideas - added Kukui - in a very short time you will see what we mean and agree with us
- Good afternoon, I'm Kenai from The Alola Diary. - A dark-haired boy from the front row introduced himself - Ash, you said that you had been very concerned about taking care of the traditions during the meetings that had been held during the past week. What did you mean by that?
- I know very well the importance and meaning of the great trials of the islands challenge, and that winning a Z-crystal should not be taken lightly... I know it is a great responsibility - answered Ash - Just as I also know the important role of the Kahunas in the islands... I know the reason why the Battle Royale is so important... I have been able to share with the Tapus, and I also know how important they are...
- When we explain the new aspects of the League, you can see that Ash took special care to protect all that - Kukui said
- Good afternoon, I'm Anne from KNN. - A very thin and tall woman from the third row introduced herself - Congratulations Ash... A few years ago when you began your journey, did you imagine one day being Regional Champion?
- Thank you... My dream since I was little is to be a great Pokémon master, and being a Champion is a big step towards that goal - answered Ash, who, remembering his first day, began to caress Pikachu absentmindedly - Although I must admit that my first day was somewhat chaotic and being Champion seemed impossible... But with time and the help of my friends and Pokémon that goal began to take shape... And even though it is already a reality, I know there is still a lot to do to become a pokemon master
- Good afternoon, I'm Max from Galar Network - a red-haired boy from the second row introduced himself - Congratulations on this appointment. I know you're entered in the Pokémon World Championship, what will happen with that?
- Thank you... For the moment I will focus on all the preparations for the new version of the Manalo Conference, but as soon as I have time I will return to the battles to be able to continue climbing in the ranking and be able to fight Lionel
It was then the turn of the last question
- Good afternoon, Alice from Kalos Gazette. - A black-haired woman from the third row introduced herself - Mr Goodshow, since there is no Elite 4 yet, how will other trainers be able to fight for the title?
- We'll explain that in more detail in a few more minutes, along with the rest of the Alola League details. - said Mr. Goodshow - but we will explain things in order
Saying this Mr Goodshow gave Kukui a sign so he could start with his part
- The first thing you should know are our initial Pokémon, the three options from which new trainers who want to start their Pokémon journey in Alola can choose - Kukui said, taking the three Pokeballs to be able to free the initial ones - They are fire type Litten , Grass-type Rowlet, and Water-type Poplio
The three little Pokémon that Kukui released appeared on the floor next to the table where they were sitting. The three initials very shyly looked around, somewhat intimidated by so many people in the room
After a couple of minutes in which everyone observe the starters, Kukui returned them to their Pokeballs so he could continue with his explanation.
- For those of you who don't know the region, Alola has four main islands and several smaller ones, and a variety of Pokémon you'll only see here, including regional forms of some of the Pokémon most people know about... Like Exeggutor , Meowth, Marowak, among others...
While Professor Kukui named the regional forms, on the giant screen Frank was showing various graphics with photos of the Pokémon
- The second version of the Manalo Conference will be held in seven months, and in a month the season to get the badges will officially start - said Mr. Goodshow - Unlike last year, from now on you will need to get badges to be able to participate in the Manalo Conference
- Getting gym badges is not a mere procedure to be able to participate in a league, it is an important instance where together with our Pokémon we work as a team to be able to get one step closer to our goal - said Ash - that is why we have added this fundamental requirement to be able to participate in the league. Each trainer must win four badges
At that moment Ash put on the table the silver box with the four badges
- These are the badges of Combat, Peace, Creation and the Ocean... they represent the four Tapus, guardians of Alola - Ash said, showing the badges one by one - but don't think it will be easy to obtain them, as you can see the badges are made up of two parts that together form the badges - Ash said as he showed how the Peace badge was divided into two - winning a battle is only part of what it means to be a trainer, there is much more and the gym leaders will be testing your different abilities
Before continuing with his explanation, Ash put the badges back in the box. While Frank began to unfold a graphic with photos of the four badges and their names
- I assume that the inhabitants of Alola are asking if the Kahunas will act as gym leaders... The answer is no - said Ash - The Kahunas represent a very important tradition for the region, and are chosen by the Tapus to guide and take care of the people and Pokémon from the different Islands. His role in charge of the islands challenge is much more important than that of a gym leader and should stay that way.
Ash drank some water before continuing with his explanation.
- Unlike the badges, with the challenge of the islands you learn to love and protect the Alola Islands, and the people and Pokémon that inhabit them, it should not be taken lightly, and for the same reason not everyone has the privilege to do
- All the trainers who will obtain their four badges will be able to register to participate in the Mánalo Conference - said Mr. Goodshow - The first round, like last year, will be with a Battle Royale
- But this year the battles will be between four trainers - Ash explained - The Royale Battles are something very important for Alola, since they resemble the battles that the four Tapus have to train
- For the following rounds we will have the traditional competition system - explained Mr. Goodshow - In each round, the trainers will have to compete with a greater number of pokemon
- Until reaching the final which will be a complete battle - said Kukui
- Now, answering the question from a while ago... - Mr. Goodshow said - In cases like this the Elite 4 is also assigned, but to fill those quotas we are in no hurry. As soon as local trainers begin to excel and demonstrate their skills, those slots will fill up.
- Eventually we'll get to a point where the Elite 4 is constituted so the trainers can challenge Ash for his title" Kukui said
- As for the activities that we will have during this second week of the festival... - said Mr. Goodshow
- On Wednesday we will have a special activity at the Pokémon school - said Kukui - where Ash will give a Master Class for all our students
- If someone else wishes to attend, they only have to register previously in the link that is being shown on the screen - Mr. Goodshow clarified - On Friday we will have a small tournament. Whoever wins will have an exhibition battle against Ash. The information to register is also appearing on the screen
- To end the festival, on Saturday there will be a great exhibition battle, which I'm sure will leave everyone amazed - Ash said - During that battle I will use my 6 strongest Pokémon
- Tickets for Saturday's battle will be on sale tomorrow - added Kukui
- With this, we can start the questions - said Mr. Goodshow - As before I will indicate who has the turn to ask
Thus began the round of questions
- Good afternoon, Emily from Johto News. - A red-haired girl from the last row appeared - Ash, a while ago you mentioned that during the battle on Saturday you would demonstrate the power of your pokemon, could you tell us something? Who is the battle against?
- I can't say anything, it's a surprise - said As - but I hope that in some way it replaces the battles that I should have had against the members of an Elite 4
All the journalists were more confused with Ash's answer
- Good afternoon, I'm Phil from The Chronicle of Unova - a dark and skinny man from the front row introduced himself - The new Champion of Unova is also quite young, although she received a region with a league and a system that works perfectly. Taking into account the similarity in ages, do you think you should talk or share experiences?
- Oh sure!. Iris and I are good friends, we travel together through Unova - said Ash - I'm sure that a conversation with her, and with the other Champions, will be of great help
- Good afternoon, I'm Izzy from Hello! Hoen - a tall blonde girl from the second row introduced herself - You talked about getting gym badges, but as far as I know there are no gyms in Alola
- That's right - answered Mr. Goodshow - they haven't been built yet, but construction begins tomorrow. And they will be finished in a month, ready to start with the season to get the badges
- Good afternoon, I'm Anna from Telenoticias Alola - A slim, blue-haired girl from the third row introduced herself - Congratulations Ash... If the Gyms haven't been built yet, does that mean you don't have the Gym leaders either?
- No, but we are already in the selection process - answered Mr. Goodshow quickly - The Kahunas have been helping us to look for candidates
- A few days ago applications were opened for those selected by the Kahunas, and from today and for a week, applications are open to all public - added Kukui
- The requirements and the application form will be found on the league website - said Mr Goodshow - once all the applications have been received, the most appropriate selection will be made
- But will they really be ready in such a short time? - asked Anna again - How will we be sure that they will be really difficult to beat?
- I'll make sure of that - answered Ash, with a very serious tone - I'll personally be in charge of the selection process of the best candidates and checking their skills in battle.
Ash drank some water before continuing with his answer.
- I have already reviewed a few application forms, I expect several more to arrive this week. After that I will have interviews, and with the selected ones I will have battles. - Ash explained - As soon as the four leaders are defined, we will have training battles periodically, in order to keep the level of the gyms high
- Good afternoon, I'm Ned from Sinnoh today - said a man with brown hair from the last row - when you participated in the Sinnoh league you had a great performance, with great battles, and you were even the only one to defeat the Darkrai of the champion of that moment Do you think you would be able to defeat him now?
- I don't know... The only Pokémon from Tobias's team that we saw were Darkrai and Latios... - Ash replied, that defeat still hurt - we manage to defeat both, but wasn't enough... although several of my Pokémon have defeated legendary ones - Ash looked at Pikachu, remembering his multiple victories - We have no way of knowing what other pokemon he had with him, or how the battle would have ended... I can only say that if we ever meet again, we would love a rematch
- Pi Pikachu!
- Good afternoon, I'm Catt from Showbiz Kanto - a thin blonde girl from the second row introduced herself - You're very handsome Ash... I guess you've broken many hearts on your travels through the different regions... - seeing the astonished look of Ash, she continued with his question - Right now you have just become one of the most eligible bachelor... Unless you are not single...
Ash didn't expect a question like that... They had tried to keep things low-key with Misty precisely to prevent the press from sticking their noses into the relationship that barely had a week... He didn't know what to do. If he said yes, the gossip would be in every magazine and talk show, and if he said no, it would be like denying his relationship with Misty and he didn't want to hurt her feelings...
- Don't you have any questions related to the Alola league or my Pokémon? - Ash finally said, trying not to sound too unfriendly, but wanting to make it clear that he wouldn't talk about it.
- Not one that is interesting enough... - Catt replied, with a suspicious smile.
- In that case we end the press conference - said Mr. Goodshow - Thank you all very much for coming. Good afternoon
All the journalists began to withdraw from the room. Just before leaving, Catt turned to look at Ash one last time.
Quickly, only Mr. Goodshow, Kukui and Ash remained in the room. Frank was at the entrance saying goodbye to the journalists
- Do you think it went well? - Ash asked, after all it was his first press conference
- It was a good conference Ash, you answered all the questions very well, including the last one - answered Mr Goodshow - as soon as Frank returns we will know what the opinion of the journalists who were in the room was, and we will check the official indicators to know the reception of the public in other regions
- Oh...
- Don't worry, I'm sure everything will be fine... - Kukui said - and I know that Misty will appreciate your answer to the last question
- Um. Thank you Professor...
At that moment Frank re-entered the press room.
- Do you think you can give us a report on the reception of the announcements? - Mr. Goodshow asked Frank.
- It's still too soon... in about fifteen minutes the reports from the different regions should begin to arrive
- Very well, what do you think if we meet in 20 minutes in the meeting room to evaluate the press conference - said Mr. Goodshow
- Do you want me to order some lunch meanwhile? - Frank asked.
- In fact, in a few minutes we will have lunch with the others at Mallow's restaurant, in case you want to go celebrate with us - Ash said
- In that case we'd better hurry - said Mr. Goodshow - I'm sure your mother must be impatient to talk to you Ash... See you in a few minutes
- Yes, of course... Let's go Pikachu
Ash headed to his office. Upon entering he collapsed on the sofa, breathing deeply. Although everything had gone well with the press conference, he was glad that it was over... Hopefully the public reception will be as expected...
Taking advantage of the few free minutes he had, Ash took his cell phone. Just as he expected, he had many messages and several missed calls, one of them from his mother.
Before calling his mom, Ash decided to send a message to Misty, to let her know that it would take a while to go to the restaurant due to the evaluation they would do with Frank.
"Ash: Hi Misty, it will take me a while to be able to get out of here, Mr Goodshow wants to evaluate the reception of the public and the media to today's announcements... I think I'll be here at least another 40 minutes...
Then the 4 of us go there"
As soon as he pressed the send message button his cell phone started ringing, his mom was calling him again
- Hello?
- Ash! I can't believe you didn't tell me! You are the Champion!
- Sorry mom, but Mr. Goodshow wanted to keep it a secret
- But I'm your mother!
- I know .. but for the same reason I know that you would have been so excited that you would not have been able to keep the secret
- It's true... Oh Ash, I'm so proud of you!
- Thanks Mom
- How long have you known?
- Almost since we arrived... Since Sunday... Believe me, it has been VERY difficult to keep the secret... I wanted to tell you so much...
- How you feel?
- Well... Very happy and excited... And very anxious for everything to come
- During the conference they mentioned that being a Champion is more than the battles... Is that true?
- Oh, you don't know how much... I have many responsibilities besides the battles... And also many benefits haha
- Benefits?
- You can't imagine how many, but I prefer to tell you about them in person when we meet...
- Okay.. Is there something you want to tell me now?
- Do you remember the man who made the introductions before the press conference?
- Ehm... Yes, I think so...
- He is Frank, my assistant.
- Attendee?
- That's right... Did you get my letter?
- Of course! Although I didn't know it was from you until I recognized the logo when they showed it on the screen... The Professor explained that this is your official logo as Champion
- Yeah... Did you see the press conference at the lab?
- Yes, together with the Professor and Tracey...
- How did they take the news?
- I think the Progessor suspected something because of your letter... But with Tracey we scream jeje...
-Oh hehe... i always suspected that he might guess the true meaning of the letter
- What did your friends say? Have you talked to anyone else?
- Not yet... Only with you... And the only one who knew from before was Misty - As soon as Misty's name left his lips, Ash knew he had made a serious mistake... His mother would not be happy to know that he had trusted Misty and not her
- Misty know?
- I'm sorry mom, but Me. Goodshow wanted to keep it a secret... And it was something too big, I needed to tell someone... And Mr. Goodshow said that I could tell Misty so that my anxiety will pass a little
- Oh honey! I am so happy! I now understand why you didn't want to answer the last question
- What? What are you talking about?
- You're dating, aren't you? Since when?... Tell me everything!
- But... How is it that you...?
- Oh Ash, I'm your mother... And I know you both very well.. I've seen you send each other secret glances for years... Now, tell me the details..
- Mom!
- Come on Ash... Or I'll call Brock to ask him
- Brock?
- If there is someone equally excited about this turning out, it is him... Surely he must know something about it
- Okay, okay! The truth is that there is not much to tell. We've only been together a week. Last Sunday after I told her about the appointment, we were both so happy that we just... kissed... It just happened... No big declaration of love or anything.
- Awww... I'm so glad Ash
- Thanks ..
- And have these days been good? Have you been kind to her? Have you taken her to a nice place for a date?
- Mom!
- Sorry, sorry!
- I'm sorry mom but I have to hang up... I have to meet with Mr. Goodshow and the others to evaluate the public's reception...
- Oh, I can tell you that everyone here in Paleta Town is delighted with the news. And in almost all the channels they are talking about you, your battles and your achievements
- Oh...
- At least in Kanto everyone seems very happy
- Great... I must go, say hello to the others for me...
- Sure... Greetings there too, I hope we can talk later
- Sure, bye mom
- Take care Ash
Ash looked at the clock hung on the wall, and then at Pikachu.
- Can you believe that all this is really happening?
- Pi Pika Pikapi Pikachu pika - answered Pikachu, making movements with his hands to make himself understood
- You're right... This is just the beginning... Come on, the messages and other calls will have to be left for later
Ash got up, put the box with the badges on his desk and left the office.
As soon as they entered the meeting room, they saw that Frank was busy working on his laptop.
- Well Frank, tell us, how was the reception of the journalists who were in the room? - asked Mr. Goodshow
- It was pretty good. Most had been covering the festival and Ash's battles - said Frank - In the week they had been reporting on Ash and his various achievements, so the majority approved his appointment without problems
- The majority? - Ash asked.
- The Alola journalists were a bit more reticent about it... - Frank replied - Nothing personal against you, but they'll need a little time to get used to the idea
- Oh...
- How has the reaction been in other regions? - asked Mr. Goodshow
- Very well, especially in Kanto. They are happy that the new Champion is from Kanto - Frank replied - most of the news from the different regions have begun to highlight Ash's participation in the league of their respective region, showing videos of their old battles
- So everyone is happy except Alola... Great - Ash said, somewhat discouraged
- I did not say that - Frank clarified - the journalists who were in the room were a little skeptical, but the different local newscasts, and especially the public seem to be very happy with the appointment
- Really? - Ash asked hopefully.
- That's right... The news, in addition to showing everything official that we deliver and repeating scenes from your battles from last week, have been showing and emphasizing your participation in battles against Ultra Beasts, there are even photos of you with Solgaleo - he said - When it comes to social media, the comments from people in Alola are mostly in your favor.
- Oh great - replied Ah, relieved
- And the league? - Kukui asked.
- It was also well received by the Alola public, especially the fact that the challenge of the islands was kept separate from obtaining badges - reported Frank - There are also reports that in the other regions on social media there is great enthusiasm from trainers about coming to compete
- Excellent! - the three answered at the same time
- In addition, videos of you taken by fans with their cell phones have begun to circulate on social media - Frank said
- Doing what? - Ash asked.
- Mainly battles with other trainers, or against Team Rocket
- Oh...
- As for your schedule... Frank said.
- My agenda?
- There are already several TV programs in all the regions that want to be able to do a live interview, similar to the one we had the first day here in Alola - Frank explained - I haven't scheduled anything yet because we have to match the interviews with the meetings with the other Champions, and your duties here in Alola...
- Oh...
- I'm afraid Ash, that at the moment you won't have time for your investigations with Professor Cerise - Kukui said
- Yes... I had been thinking for days that something like this would happen, but I had been waiting to be sure to be able to talk to him - answered Ash
- Don't worry, this media chaos usually doesn't last long... Soon you'll see that you can go back to your investigations and your world championship battles - said Mr. Goodshow
- I hope so...
- What do you think if we leave your agenda for tomorrow? Probably today I'll be getting invitations to interviews or things like that al day... - Frank said
- Yes, of course... Thank you
- In that case I think we can go to lunch - said Mr. Goodshow
- And to celebrate! - said Kukui - you deserve it Ash
- Thank you
Ash's office wasn't far from Mallow's restaurant, so they decided to walk, and not bother Evan.
Along the way they met several people, mainly families who were enjoying the festival. But apparently not everyone had been watching the news, as only a few people came over to say hello to Ash.
The first to do so were two boys, who were apparently about 10 years old.
- Champion Ash! - the two children shouted at the same time as soon as they saw him approach
- You're great! I can't believe we're talking to you - said one of them, the shortest one with black hair
- Your pokemon are amazing! -said the other, a little taller than his friend, with lots of freckles and orange hair- Can I pet Pikachu?
- Hi guys.. What's your name? - Ash asked with a smile.
- My name is Mickey and he is my friend Fred - replied the black-haired boy
- Nice to meet you guys - Ash replied - What do you think Pikachu, would you like to say hello?
- Pika! - Pikachu answered, getting down from Ash's shoulder to be at the children's height.
- Be gentle... We don't want Pikachu to electrocute us all - Ash told them - How old are you?
- Almost 10! - answered at the same time
- Really? - Ash asked.
- Yes! And as soon as we can we will go for our initial Pokémon - Fred answered, this time addressing Kukui
- Excellent, I'll be waiting for you - answered Kukui
- I'm sorry guys, but we have to go... - Ash said, seeing the disappointed face of the children he added - when you have your initial Pokémon we will have a battle
- Really?! - they asked at the same time, very excited
- Of course - Ash said, as Pikachu returned to his shoulder - See ya!
- See you!
As soon as the children said goodbye, they ran towards one of the festival stands, probably to tell their parents about their meeting with the Champion.
Only a few minutes later they were approached again, this time by a couple and their son. As soon as they got closer Ash recognized the boy, he was one of the kids that had almost been hurt by Team Rocket the day before.
- Alola, how have you been? - Ash asked the boy.
- Well, thank you Mr. Ash - replied the boy shyly
- Only Ash is fine - Ash corrected him
- Okay...
- Thank you for protecting our son - said the woman
- No need to thank - Ash said - I'm glad he wasn't hurt...
- Anyway, thank you very much. We are very happy that you are our Champion
- Thank you...
As soon as they were a few steps from the restaurant, a very happy Pikachu jumped off Ash's shoulder and ran inside the restaurant.
- I think Pikachu is hungry... - Ash said, entering the restaurant after Pikachu
- Surprise! - everyone present shouted
- Well, it's not a big surprise since you knew we would get together for lunch, but you didn't know there would be so many people - Misty said, approaching to hug Ash - Congratulations Champion... Did you talk to your mom? She's been calling...
- Thank you... Yes, I spoke with her
Ash looked around, indeed there were a lot more people than he expected. Not only were his friends (and their families), but also Principal Oak, Professor Burnett and Lei, the Kahunas, there was even Evan
- Ash!! - Sophocles shouted, approaching Ash - Champion Ash! this is sensational
- Congratulations Ash - said Mallow - now I understand why everything was so secret
- Congratulations Ash - said Goh, not as effusive as the others
- You deserve it Ash - Lana said - I'm sure you'll do excellent
- Thanks guys - Ash replied, looking at his friends. Within the group Kiawe was the only one who had not said anything yet
- You surpassed me again Ash - said Kiawe - but believe me I will train very hard to win those badges and enter the league
- I'm sure you will - answered Ash - And you, Lana?
- Sure, we'll do our best...
- That's the spirit! - Ash said - Guys, I want to introduce you to Frank. Frank, they are Misty, Lana, Mallow, Kiawe, Sophocles and Goh - said Ash, while he pointed to each of his friends
- Hi guys, nice to meet you at last - said Frank
- He is Ash's assistant - Misty clarified. She had had to keep the secret for a week, she had earned the right to embarrass Ash a little.
Mr. Goodshow, Frank and Kukui took advantage of the moment of distraction to go talk to the other guests
- Misty! - Ash said.
- Do you have an assistant? - Sophocles asked - wow...
- And the house where we've been staying... It's his house! - Misty said
- Misty!
- I'm sorry... It was so many days keeping the secret... I needed to share something - replied Misty
- Is it really yours? - Goh asked.
- Not really - Ash explained - it belongs to the Champion... As soon as there is a new Champion the house will be no longer mine
- So it's yours - Sophocles said - I doubt very much that someone managed to defeat you soon
- Haha... I hope so - Ash said. Looking at his friends Ash noticed that Goh looked a bit discouraged - Goh, can we talk outside?
- Ehm .. of course
Once outside, Ash sat down on a large log, inviting Goh to sit next to him.
- Are you okay? - Ash asked.
- Yes, fine - answered Goh, seeing Ash's incredulous face, he added, - I guess we won't be research partners anymore
- What are you talking about?
- I'm very happy for you Ash, I know this is a great achievement... It's just that... I suppose that now that you will live in Alola and that you will have so much work as a Champion you won't be able to be a researcher ...
- Wait a minute... I still don't know if I'll live in Alola... Mr. Goodshow says that the first few months are chaotic, but as soon as I get the rhythm of this I could continue doing my things without problem... - he said - also I haven't talked to Professor Cerise about it yet... I'd like to know what he thinks...
- Oh...
- Hey, even if I had to stay and live in Alola that doesn't mean we'd stop being friends or anything like that...
- I know... But it wouldn't be the same to go investigate by myself... - said Goh
- Only tomorrow I will have more clarity about the appointments and the free time that I will have during the coming weeks - answered Ash - maybe there will be enough time to go investigate together somewhere
Goh looked at Ash, who was doing his best to cheer him up.
- I'm sorry... It's your big day and I'm ruining it with my stupidities
- It's not stupid Goh...
- Of course it is, you should be inside celebrating with the others and not out here listening to my selfish apprehensions.
- Hey... Okay, I know it won't be an easy change for you... but as I said, there's nothing to worry about, we'll continue to be friends and see each other whenever we can...
- Thanks Ash ..- Goh said, with a sincere smile - Come on, it's time to celebrate
Upon re-entering the restaurant, Ash was accosted by the other guests, all wanting to congratulate him. He was being congratulated by Principal Oak when Mallow's voice interrupted them.
- The food is ready! please find a seat
The restaurant had been adorned with a large banner that said Congratulations Ash, and the tables had been rearranged for the occasion. There was a large table with 10 seats, and around it were several smaller tables for 4 people.
Ash and his friends sat at the main table along with Professor Kukui and Professor Burnett.
- Before starting with lunch, I would like to make a toast to Ash - Kukui said, raising his glass - Our Champion
- For Champion Ash! - answered all the guests raising their cups and glasses
- I would like to add something - said Misty - I have the privilege to say that I have seen you grow as a trainer and as a person since your first day... I have seen you win and lose, enjoy each victory and learn from each defeat... I've seen you train and play with your pokemon, which for you is almost the same thing... I've seen you save the world, and I know I'll do it again... I'm so proud of the trainer and the person you've become ... Who would have thought that the boy I caught in a river would be the Champion of Alola... Definitely one of my best catches haha - Misty looked at Ash sweetly before adding - For the Champion!
- For the Champion!
- Thank you Misty - Ash said when Misty sat down next to him again, giving her a kiss on the cheek - Did you get my letters? - Ash asked the others.
- Yes! Although I didn't realize it was yours until when they showed your logo on the screen - answered Goh - The only champion I know... knew, was Lionel... And a letter from him didn't make sense... But I never thought I could be yours
- I couldn't decipher the letter either... - said Mallow
- Neither do I - Sophocles and Lana said at the same time
- Me neither - said Kiawe - but it did seem strange to me... Since I didn't know any Champion
- I'm sorry I confused you guys, but I really wanted to tell you, but I couldn't because Mr. Goodshow wanted to keep it a secret - Ash explained - Misty suggested the cards... that way I told you, but without telling you
- Did you send letters to someone else? Goh asked.
- Yes, to all my friends.. I even sends one to my mom
- But you told Misty - said Mallow
- It was very exciting news, I wouldn't have been able to keep it a secret if I didn't tell someone... Mr. Goodshow gave me permission to tell Misty
- And it was horrible! -said Misty - it really is a relief that everyone already knows, I don't know if I would have been able to keep the secret for much longer
- What did you think of the press conference? - Ash asked - do you think we managed to explain everything in a good way?
- I think so... - said Goh - somehow you managed to be very clear in your explanations... It was strange haha
- It's true Ash, and you answered the questions very well... - Kukui said - including the last one...
- Um. Yes, I... - Ash said, looking at Misty to see what she thought about it.
- It was a good answer Ash, thanks for trying to keep it a secret - Misty said with a smile - although I'm not sure that journalist was satisfied with your answer
- I don't think so - Lana said - she is usually very persistent
- She is known for being the first to report any important love gossip - Mallow added.
- Great... - Misty said - Well, at least we had a week to ourselves, without the participation of the press.
- I'm sorry Misty - Ash said, feeling responsible
- It's not your fault... Those paparazzi and gossip reporters are the ones who should be looking for something better to do with their lives than ruining the lives of others - replied Misty angrily. Seeing the faces of the others, she took a deep breath and added - I've calmed down... I'm sorry... I think we'll have to get used to them sooner or later wanting to get some gossip from you Ash
- Principal Oak told me that everyone in the school is very excited about Wednesday activity, Ash - Kukui said, trying to change the subject... a subject that he himself had brought to the conversation
- Really? I didn't think it would draw so much attention - Ash replied
- Of course! - Kukui said - during the broadcast the registration link was published for the general public, and from what Frank told me there are already many registered
- Oh...
- It will be better that we arrive early that day then - Sophocles said - I don't want to be in the last row without being able to see anything
- Will you participate in the tournament on Friday? - Misty asked.
- Of course! - Kiawe and Lana said at the same time
- We must practice to get in shape to challenge the gyms - added Kiawe
- We will register tomorrow, as soon as registration opens - Lana said - from what they showed during the transmission there will not be many places
- In a single day we can't have many battles - said Kukui - so there will only be places for 32 participants
- Oh... I hope we can sign up - Kiawe said, looking at Ash for support
- I'm sorry guys, but it would be unfair to the other trainers if I register you - Ash said sincerely - although that doesn't matter with the tickets for Saturday's battle. Frank will reserve seats for you just like in the Battle Royale
- Now that I think about it, that was suspicious - Sophocles said - we must have noticed that you had something up your sleeve...
- Haha maybe you didn't because that day we were upset with Ash - said Misty
- Misty! - Ash claimed.
- It's not my fault that you've behaved like an idiot... - replied Misty
- Ouch...
Before they could start arguing as usual, Mallow asked a question.
- With whom is that battle?
- I can't tell you, but it will be amazing - Ash replied
At that moment Ash's cell phone began to vibrate in his pocket (he still had it on silent), seeing who the call was from he excused himself to the others
- Sorry guys, but I have to answer this
Getting up from the table, Ash headed outside so he could talk quietly as it was noisy inside.
- Hello?
- Hi Ash, Congratulations!
- Thank you Professor
- Chloe and the others send you their regards
- Thank you... In fact, Professor, I was thinking on calling you in a while so I could apologize for not having told you about this before...
- Don't worry... Mr. Goodshow told me a few days ago
- What!? But he didn't say anything to me.
- I know... he told me that you were a little complicated thinking about how to balance your work as Champion with that of investigator here with me...
- It's true... I really like the research trips we do, but...
- But your priority now is Alola, especially until the League starts.. I understand
- Mr. Goodshow says that the first few weeks are a bit chaotic, but then everything calms down... Maybe by then...
- Don't worry... These days I've been thinking of a solution, and I think I found a way to make it work...
- Really?
- Well, maybe at the beginning, as you say, your schedule doesn't allow it, but later on it will - Professor Cerise tried to explain - Due to your responsibilities, the most prudent thing would be that you no longer stay with us here in the laboratory , but that doesn't mean you can't go on research trips with Goh... As long as the times match...
- Okay? - Ash said, not sure if he understood the Professor's plan.
- Don't get me wrong, we love having you here with us, but we have to be realistic... You are the Champion, you have more important responsibilities than feeding the Pokémon in the park - Professor Cerise said - However, your help in the research trips has been invaluable. Therefore, if your schedule allows it and at the time of a research trip you are free, we would love to have you.
- Of course! - Ash replied happily - I won't have clarity on my agenda for the next few weeks until tomorrow, but I'll keep your idea in mind
- Cool! After the festival will you go back to Kanto, or will you stay in Alola?
- I have to go back, at least for a few days... But I'm not sure yet... I'll know tomorrow, and I'll let you know
- Ok... How is Goh with all this?
- Well... Kind of sad, but he'll be glad to hear your idea Professor
- I'm glad... Well Ash, I assume you're celebrating with your friends, I'll leave you so you can continue... Goodbye
- See you Professor
- That turned out better than I expected - Ash said as he hung up the phone
Before putting it back in his pocket he quickly checked if he had any notifications. Of course, several missed calls from Brock and Professor Oak, missed calls from his other friends, and many messages from the various groups with his friends.
- Oh... I think I'll have to find a moment to read all this later - Ash said, before going back into the restaurant
Upon entering he could see that Mallow was already starting to serve dessert, his famous Pony radish croquettes.
Sitting down, Ash looked around at the other guests. At one table was Lana's mother with the twins and Mallow's father, at another were Sophocles' parents with Kiawe's family, at the last one Mr. Goodshow sat with Frank, Evan and Principal Oak .
Everyone seemed very happy talking and enjoying the delicious food, although Frank seemed to be very involved in his cell phone
- What are you staring at? - Misty asked when she saw that he still hadn't touched his dessert.
- Frank... He's been looking at his cell phone all lunch over and over again
-Well, he's your assistant... And a few hours ago everyone just found out that you're the first Champion of Alola - Misty replied - I guess he must be getting a lot of calls about it
-Yes, I think so... A while ago he mentioned that there were already many television channels interested in an interview
- Oh... I guess you'll be a bit busy for the next few days - said Misty
- The next few weeks - said Ash - I will also have meetings with the other Champions... Not counting the many things that I must take care here in Alola
- Speaking of which Ash - said Mallow - will you stay and live here in Alola?
- I don't know yet... I have to analyze it calmly... - answered Ash - there are several things to take into account
- But you are the Champion - said Sophocles.
- I know... But that doesn't mean I have to live here... - said Ash, who when seeing the faces of his friends added - It's not that I don't like the idea, you know I love Alola... I'm just saying that is not the only option...
- But why don't you want to stay? - Lana asked.
- I didn't say that... But in order to go up in the world championship ranking I have to keep traveling to get battles... - answered Ash - plus I want to continue with Prof. Cerise's research trips
- So everything you said at the conference is not true... - Kiawe said, somewhat annoyed - Alola is not your priority... As soon as you can, you'll leave
- Kiawe! - Mallow and Lana said at the same time
- You know that's not true Kiawe - answered Ash very seriously - since a week ago my priorities changed... And Alola is now my number one priority... I will not abandon you or the rest of Alola
- It's not what you just said - replied Kiawe
- I said that staying in Alola is not the only alternative... There are other possibilities... - said Ash - and even if I stayed in Alola that doesn't mean I wouldn't have to travel from time to time...
- That's true Kiawe, the Champions normally travel a lot outside their region for different reasons - added Kukui, trying to calm things down
- As which? - Kiawe asked.
- Meetings for example, next week I have a meeting on the indigo plateau, as well as meetings with all the other champions in their regions - Ash replied somewhat hurt with what Kiawe was insinuating. Recalling his conversations with Mr.. Goodshow he added - Besides that, many official activities like exhibition battles or interviews will be in the other regions. As well as possible special missions
- Special mission? - Sophocles asked
- That's right, sometimes the Pokémon Ranger or the police ask the Champions for help for some missions - Ash explained
- Oh... - Kiawe said, somewhat embarrassed by his previous comments.
- Yes... Oh - Ash said looking seriously at Kiawe - I can't believe you really think so badly of me
- No... it's not that... I'm sorry - Kiawe apologized sincerely - it's just that you sounded so reluctant to live here that I... I lost my cool... I'm sorry
Ash looked carefully at Kiawe, who looked really sorry. After taking a deep breath and calming down a bit, Ash accepted his apology.
- Okay... I understand you - Ash said - it's not that I don't want to live in Alola, it's just that I still don't know what will happen later...
- What do you mean Ash? - Mallow asked.
- Mr. Goodshow said that the first few weeks are usually a bit chaotic due to the press, the many meetings and because I have to get used to work... - Ash explained, after taking a quick look at his agenda he added - for the moment I know that this is going to be a busy week, but Frank hasn't confirmed anything yet for the days to come when the festival is over... But he's been staring at his cell phone all lunch, so I assume I won't have much leisure
- It doesn't make sense that you worry about that now Ash - Professor Burnett said - it's your day to celebrate
- I know... But in that busy schedule we have to leave time for all the preparations for the league... - Ash said - that's what worries me
- Oh, I see... - said the Professor - when will you know more about it?
- Tomorrow morning I have a meeting with Frank to see that, before the meeting with you... - answered Ash - Speaking of meetings... Guys, do you think you can meet with me on Thursday morning?
- Do you want to meet us? - Lana asked.
- That's right, I have something very important to discuss with the Ultra Guardians - answered Ash
- Oh... In that case we can't say no, can we guys? - Mallow said
- Great, I'll see you in the office then - Ash said, immediately scheduling the meeting
- Oh, I want to see the office! - said Misty, who had preferred to remain silent during Ash and Kiawe's argument.
- Yes, I want it too! - Goh said
- We could go later, and I'll show you the office
- Yes! - they all answered at once
At that moment Frank approached the table where Ash was.
- Ash I must go, thanks for this delicious lunch
- Why are you leaving? - Ash asked.
- There's a lot to do... I have to make a lot of calls and answer a lot of emails... I'll be in the office if you need anything...
- Thanks Frank... We'll be there in a bit... The others want to see the office
- Ok, see you in a bit then
The celebration did not last much longer, since everyone had to return to their activities. The next to leave were the Professors, since little Lei had to take his nap. Shortly after, it was the turn of his friends' parents who had to go back to work. Soon it was the turn of Mr. Goodshow, Evan and Principal Oak
Mr. Goodshow and Principal Oak had been talking and fine-tuning the last details of Wednesday's activity, but it was time to go.
- Ash, do you need me to take you home? - Evan asked.
- No, don't worry... Thanks - answered Ash
- In that case Evan, if you would be so kind as to take me to the Hotel - said Mr. Goodshow to Evan - Thanks for the food guys. see you tomorrow Ash
In this way, after helping to leave everything in its place in the restaurant, the group of friends went to Ash's office
As they walked, Ash and Misty were holding hands, talking animatedly with each other. Along the way they didn't run into anyone to interrupt them, but just before they got there, Ash's cell phone vibrated again in his pocket.
- Oh, I still haven't turned off the silent mode - Ash said, taking out his cell phone to see who was calling - It's Brock again... I'd better call him later, I'm sure it'll be a long conversation - Ash said while he reject the call
- Oh, Brock won't be happy that you cut him off... - Misty said
- I know... - Ash said, stopping just in front of the building with the big Pokeball on top - well guys, this is the office. Let's go inside
Ash pulled out his swipe card and opened the door, letting his friends through.
Thus began the little tour of the office
- On the first floor we have the reception with its respective waiting room... Over here is the press room, where the morning press conference was held... -Ash said, showing them the room
- Oh, it looked bigger on TV - Sophocles said.
- Here there is a small kitchen and a storage room
- Why a kitchen? - Goh asked.
- In case a meeting is extended... or for the catering of some events like today's press conference - Ash explained, remembering that the journalists had been offered some drinks and things to eat while they waited
- Oh I see
- Here we have a small living room and over there the meeting room B
- B? - Sophocles asked - And the A?
- It's on the second floor, it's bigger - answered Ash, opening the door so they could see it
- Oh...
- It's very pretty - said Mallow.
- Let's go to the second floor then - Ash said, starting to climb the stairs with his friends behind him - Here we have meeting room A
- It's a lot bigger than the other one - said Misty, admiring the large table around which there were 15 comfortable chairs, and that could easily accommodate more people.
- There's a little extra office over there... - Ash said - and over here is Frank's office
Ash approached the office and knocked on the door.
- Come in
- Hi Frank, is everything alright here? - Ash said.
- Hi Frank! - the others greeted from the door
- Hi guys
- I just wanted to let you know that we had arrived so you wouldn't be scared if you felt noise upstairs - Ash said
- Oh, ok... When you have a moment could you come? I need to consult you some things to be able to start organizing your agenda
- Sure, I'll come in a few minutes... Will it be too chaotic?
- Ehm... Not so much... I think
- Great... As soon as I'm done with the others I'll come - Ash said, leaving the office to guide his friends to the third floor
Upon reaching the third floor, the gang were surprised to see that there were only three doors in front of them... It looked much smaller than the previous floors.
- Well this floor is just for me... - Ash said - the door over there is a bathroom, the one over here is a lounge room and the other is my office... What do you want to see first?
- Your office! - Misty, Sophocles and Kiawe said at the same time
- Lounge! - said Goh, Lana and Mallow
- Ehm... I think we'll start with the lounge room and leave the office for last - Ash said, opening the door of the lounge room
Pikachu immediately ran to his favorite sofa and turned on the television... It had been a long and stressful day so far, he deserved a break.
- This is a lounge room for me and my Pokémon - Ash said - they can stay here while I'm in the office or in a meeting...
- I assume that the happiest is Pikachu, it must not be very entertaining for him to accompany you to long meetings - said Misty, watching as Pikachu turned on the video game
- It's true... also with Greninja and Lucario they usually play videogames... - Ash said, walking towards the back cabinet - And I also have a lot of Pokémon food in case we stay late
- Ash, is great! - Mallow said, sitting next to Pikachu - it's very comfortable, I see why you like it so much, Pikachu
- Pika!
- Let's go to your office now - Misty asked
- Okay... Come on, Pikachu are you staying here?
- Pi Pika... - Pikachu said distractedly, concentrating on his video game
- Okay...
Misty was really anxious to see Ash's office, she didn't know what she expected to see inside, but she wanted to see it. Leaving the lounge room she quickly went to the office and tried to open the door, without success.
- It's locked... - said Misty surprised - do you have it locked?
- Not exactly... - Ash said approaching the door and opening it without problems - There is a fingerprint reader on the handle, it only opens with my fingerprint... or Frank's
- Oh wow - said Sophocles - high security system
- We don't want someone like Team Rocket barging in here... - Ash said, looking at his desk. In it was a big pile of papers that he hadn't left there - more application forms I guess...
Before his friends could take a look at the forms, Ash took them and put them in the top drawer of his desk, tomorrow he would read them - Well, this is my office, what do you think?
- It's beautiful - said Misty, - it has a wonderful view - she added, looking out the window at the sea where there would soon be a beautiful sunset.
- And very big - commented Kiawe, looking around
- Ash, can we see the badged? - Lana asked.
-Yes... - Ash said, approaching his desk to take out the silver box - Here they are
- They are very beautiful - said Mallow.
- I really like that they have the colors of the Tapus - said Kiawe
- Was it your idea that they were divided into two? Sophocles asked.
- Yes... I took the idea of the badges from the Orange Islands - Ash explained - it's not the same, but it's similar ..
- Oh, now I understand... - Misty said - Good idea
- Thank you - Ash replied with a smile
- What do you mean? - Kiawe asked.
- I'm sorry, but you know I can't tell you... - Ash said - Besides I haven't selected the gym leaders yet, so I don't really have anything to tell you yet...
- Mhhh - Kiawe replied, a little tired of that answer
At that moment the office phone rang, surprising everyone.
- Yes?
- Ash, is it long before you can come?
- No.. sorry Frank, I'll be right there
- Sorry guys, but I have to go with Frank - Ash said as he hung up the phone
- Don't worry, we understand... - Mallow said.
- Do you have free time tomorrow? - Sophocles asked - there is a group contest tomorrow afternoon... We could all participate together
- I know... I'll be the judge... - answered Ash
- Oh...
- And I have all morning busy with meetings... - Ash apologized - but we could see each other after the contest... You could go to the house if you want - looking at Kiawe and Lana he added - we can train together
- Yes!
- Sure... No problem Ash - said Mallow
- Misty... Would you mind waiting for me with Pikachu? Then we could go for a walk or something - Ash said, before Misty could leave
- Sure... We'll be playing video games
As Misty went to accompany Pikachu, Ash and the others started down the stairs. Ash decided to accompany them to the entrance and thus make sure that the door will be well closed.
- See you Ash - the others said goodbye
- See you tomorrow guys
As soon as the door was securely closed, Ash went up to Frank's office, where he knocked on the door before entering.
- I'm sorry Frank... Tell me, what do you need...?
- I know we said we wouldn't schedule anything until tomorrow, but I think we won't be able to afford that luxury... Or at least not completely.
- What are you talking about? - Ash asked.
- There are many things that have to be coordinated and fit... And if we don't decide some things soon, we won't be able to fit anything - Frank said seriously
- Ok... Where do we start? - Ash asked.
- I know you've been worrying for days about how you're going to do it in order to continue with your work as an investigator... Have you thought about that?
- Yes, today I spoke with Professor Cerise and he gave me a great idea
- Great, which one?
- Leave the research to my spare time, at least at the beginning where I will be very busy between the preparations for the league, the interviews and the meetings with the other Champions
- Well... That solves things a bit for us - Frank said - now we just have to make sure you can do those three things without problems
- Okay...
- Well, you see... There is nothing scheduled yet but during the next few weeks you will have to travel to the different regions to go to an interview
- To all of them? - Ash asked in amazement.
- That's right, since you participated in the different leagues, television stations from all regions are interested in hearing from you
- Oh...
- Since you must also meet with each of the Champions - Frank said - we could match the trips to each region so that you have the interview and the meeting during the trip
- That sounds great - Ash said
- That's right... Now there is the question of how we fit that with your obligations with the preparations of the league here in Alola
- Oh I see
- We could leave all the trips together one after another. so you would be two weeks away and then two weeks here before the start of the season
- It could be, although I don't like the idea very much... - Ash said - the truth is that I want to start with the interviews of the gym leaders as soon as possible, as well as the practice battles with them... two weeks would not work well
- Or the other option is that you make weekly trips... - Frank said - in this way you would be outside during the week, and you would return to Alola on the weekend
- I like that idea a little better - said Ash - although, could we do the trips from Alola on Sunday nights and back to Alola on Thursday nights? This way I would have almost three full days here in Alola
- We could make it work...
- Cool!
- I will check with the other Champions their availability of time and then I will call the television stations to schedule the interviews - Frank said - as soon as I have confirmation I will add them to your agenda
- Thanks Frank, but don't stay up too late... We can check this tomorrow if you don't have an early response from the others - Ash said - meanwhile I'll plan what I should do during those weekends
- OK, see you tomorrow
- See you tomorrow Frank.
Ash went upstairs and into the lounge room.
- Hello - Ash said, sitting next to Misty
- Hi, how did it go with Frank? - Misty said, pausing the video game she was playing with Pikachu
- Well... Frank is already starting to put together my schedule for next month...
- Oh, too terrible?
- I don't know yet... I just know that it will include many airports
- What are you talking about?
- I will be traveling during the week to the different regions and on weekends I will return to Alola
- Oh... You're right, a lot of time in the airport
- Could you wait a few more minutes? - asked Ash - I want to define today what I have to do during those weekends, to have clear times and deadlines
- Obviously, no problem...
- Great - Ash said standing up - if you want a coffee or something, there's a side table in the corner
- OK thank you
Ash then walked into his office and sat in front of his desk. He first took out the cell phone charger from his bag and plugged it in. Then he took out the application forms that Frank had left on top of him and began to leaf through them quickly... There were several, about 10...
Ash then took out his notebook, and on his cell phone he opened the calendar. In this way it would be easier to organize everything in his mind and establish certain deadlines
- Well... the period to send the registration forms ends this Sunday... - said Ash, looking at the calendar and starting to write - and from that day there are just 4 weeks before the opening of the gyms...
Ash drew some lines, dividing the sheet in four and began to try to order his ideas, talking to himself
- Since there is not much time... For the first weekend I will leave the personal interviews... - Ash said while writing - of them I will leave about 3 or 4 possible candidates for each gym... Which means that I have these two weeks to read the forms and see who to call for an interview
After reviewing his schedule for this week and deciding that he would read forms every free moment he had, Ash continued.
- I also have to check how the construction of the gyms is going... For the second weekend I have to choose between those selected from the previous week... They must show me their idea for the challenge and we must also have a battle... I think I'll need two days for that... And I have to review the progress of the gyms...
As Ash talked to himself, he kept writing in his notebook
- For the following weekend... Special training for the gym leaders... And several meetings... The gyms should be almost ready by then... And for the last weekend is the opening of the gyms ... No, first battles with the leaders and the next day the inauguration...
Ash looked at everything he had written... It was something ambiguous and difficult to add to his cell phone's calendar, but enough to give him clarity regarding the times he had to make certain decisions.
- Well... Now we need to add the to-do list from the other day... - Ash said, looking in the same notebook for the list he had written a few days ago - although I can do several of these things without having to be there. in Alola, I could do them while I'm on the road...
Ash took a long look at the list and began adding them to the sheet he was currently working on, each in a different week, so he could set deadlines, just like what he do with the gym leaders.
- Wow...- Ash said looking at his calendar sketch, which was crammed with things - Well at least I can start adding things to the agenda
Ash then opened the calendar app (the one Frank had installed)
- Hmm... I can't add "read application forms" as an event... - Ash said thoughtfully - I need something like a reminder...
Ash began to investigate the app a bit, to see if he could add reminders. Luckily for him he found out that he could do it. Within his investigation Ash also discovered that the app allowed him to "mark" specific days of the week with a label, which gave him a great idea.
- Cool! I can mark the days I want to be in Alola, so that way Frank knows what days are available to coordinate the other events
Ash then proceeded to mark as "Alola" every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the next four weeks, in addition to Thursday of the second week, since that weekend he would need more time to be able to fight with all the preselected.
- Well... Now it's time to add the reminders... And then I'll add the meetings, and I'll confirm them as soon as I see the time availability of the others...
Ash took one last look at the changes to his agenda, satisfied he closed the app and put away his notebook, ready to go with Misty and Pikachu
He was getting up from his chair, when his cell phone started to ring... It was Brock again
As soon as Ash pressed the button to answer the call, he could hear Brock's voice.
- Ash!!!
- Yes? - Ash said, moving the device away from his ear
- Why didn't you answer me?!
- Because I was busy and knew that this conversation would be long. - Ash tried to apologize - I guess you saw the press conference?
- Of course I saw it! - Brock answered, still somewhat upset - I wouldn't have missed it after receiving your letter
- Did you figure it out? - Ash asked.
- Obviously Ash... - Brock replied calmer.
- I knew it! I knew you could figure it out
- Now tell me EVERYTHING, I don't want you to leave any details out
- Oh... Where do I begin... - Ash said, unplugging his phone from the charger and sitting on the sofa
- Since when do you know? How did you know?
- Ehm... Do you remember the interview they did, before the festival started as such? The one where Mr. Goodshow said he wanted me to help out with the new league rules.
- Yes...
- The next day I had a meeting with Mr. Goodshow and Prof. Kukui to see that... They both started asking me several questions about what I thought of last year's version and what improvements I would make... As soon as I finished answering they told me that I was the Champion! - Ash said excitedly, he had only told this story once (to Misty), and remembering what happened made him excited again
- Just like that?
- It turns out that it was actually a kind of "test" to check if what they had already decided was a good idea... Apparently they liked my answers...
- I see... And why didn't you tell us anything before? Why so much mystery with the letter?
- Mr. Goodshow wanted to keep it a secret... Even if I wanted to... he wouldn't let me tell mom...
- And you were able to keep the secret all this time?... - Brock said, after a short pause he added - No! You told Misty! That was what you were hiding from me...
- Ehm... yes... It was a very big news and I knew that I wouldn't be able to put up with that for a whole week, so I asked permission to tell at least one person... and he said that I could tell misty
- Hmmph
- I'm sorry Brock, I really wanted to be the one to tell you... I didn't want you to find out on TV, that's why I send the letters... - Ash apologized - I knew that maybe not everyone could decipher it, but I was sure that you could
- I see...
- But it was almost the only thing I told Misty... I kept most of the rest as a secret... Including the battle on Saturday, so don't ask...
- Well, I won't ask... But you must bring me up to date with the rest.
- Well... Do you remember the house where we are staying?... It is the Champion's house... so it is mine until someone defeats me
- Wow, so you're going to stay and live in Alola?
- The truth... I don't know... I haven't decided yet... - answered Ash sincerely - there is the possibility of constantly traveling between Kanto and Alola
- Kanto? Will you continue to work with Prof. Cerise?
- Yes... But probably only sporadically, not full time like now..
- Oh... And then? Why travel to Kanto so often? - asked Brock - Oh... Misty, of course...
- No... Not just for that...
- Why then?
- To enjoy my house...
- But you haven't lived in Pallet Town in years...
- Not my mom's house... My house
- Do you have a house?! Since when?
- I still don't have, but I will have... - Ash explained - one of the benefits of being Champion... And unlike Alola's, that one will be mine
- Wow, and where?
- Ideally on the outskirts of Saffron City, towards Mount Moon
- Hmm... Why there?
- It's central... It's close to the Indigo Plateau, to mom, to you, Misty, Professor Cerise
- Oh... You're right, it's a good place - said Brock - And have you already seen some options?
- I haven't seen anything yet, Frank was to let me know if he found anything
- Frank?
- Oh, yes... My assistant... He was the one who presented the press conference today
- Oh, I see... Do you mean that the next time I want to meet with you I should call him?
- Of course not Brock!
- Hahaha I was just kidding... What other benefits does being Champion have?
- Ehm... I have my own office... I can walk with 10 Pokémon at the same time... In fact I should ask Mr. Goodshow if I can do that now...
- That's great Ash, anything else?
- Well, both houses... And a lot of money
- Not bad huh?...
- Well, I also have a lot of work...
- How are you going with that? I know that the battles are not a problem for you... But I imagine that everything administrative has been a little more complex
- Yes... At first it scared me a bit... But as I've started doing some things I've picked up the pace, and it hasn't been that difficult... - Ash said - besides, Mr. Goodshow has me prepared many trainings with the other Champions
- That's great Ash... I'm sure you won't have a problem with it as soon as you get the hang of it
- Do you seriously believe it?
- Yes... You've always had good ideas... Maybe you don't know the administrative part yet, but it doesn't matter if the ideas are good... It's just a matter of time for you to learn a little and that's it
- Thanks Brock - Ash replied happily, hearing Brock say something like that calmed him down a lot - And what do you think of the press conference?
- It was very good... I really liked the modifications to the league... And you were very good answering questions... Including the last one jaja
- Brock!
- I'm sorry... But as soon as I heard the question I knew it wouldn't be easy to answer, one way or another you would end up in trouble with Misty, either by denying her or by ruining the secret... I must say I wasn't expecting that answer, I was surprised
- I just hope it served...
- I really don't know if it work that much... maybe you bought some time, but that girl is fierce and she always gets the juiciest stories...
- Cool...
- I know that with Misty you wanted to keep the secret to be able to enjoy your relationship in peace and out of the press... but with them it's always better to be the one who tells the story from the beginning. .. waiting and trying to debunk ridiculous rumors is much more difficult...
- You're right...
- Well Ash, I have to go, I have a big exam tomorrow... - Brock said, starting to say goodbye - I'm very happy and proud of you, I know you'll do great
- Thanks Brock... Good luck on your exam tomorrow
- Thank you... Regards to Misty
- Bye!
Hanging up, Ash stood up, again with the intention of going to meet Misty and Pikachu.
Hearing the door to the lounge room open, Misty paused the game and looked up.
- Ready?
- Yes... - Ash said entering - sorry for the delay, but Brock called again
- Oh, I guess you didn't cut him off again - Misty said, as she turned off the video game
- Of course not, if I had, he would have yelled at me even more than he did haha
- I warned you...
- I know, but I wanted to be able to talk to him calmly
- And how did he take it?
- Well... He was able to decipher the letter
- We knew it was very likely that he would - Misty said standing up - What do you want to do now? Did you have something in mind?
- Nothing specific... I just wanted to spend some time with you - answered Ash with a big smile - We could go for a walk on the beach and maybe find a place to have a drink or something to eat
- I think it's a good idea
- Great, let's go - Ash said, taking the remote control to turn off the TV - Sorry Pikachu, another day you continue with that game
- Pi... - Pikachu answered, somewhat disappointed
- I just have to go get my stuff and we can go
After picking up his backpack from his office, and making sure to left everything in order, they started down the stairs. On the second floor they stopped to see if Frank was still in his office.
- Frank? - Ash asked, knocking on the door and peeking into the room - are you still here?
- Yes, but I was about to leave - answered Frank, who was gathering his things to leave- I saw that you made changes in the agenda
- Yes, did you find them adequate?
- Yes, very useful indeed - said Frank, turning off the light and leaving his office - I just need to confirm some schedules, so tomorrow morning I should have the final agenda for the next few weeks
- Great - Ash said going down the stairs
Upon reaching the first floor, Ash and Frank made sure to leave all the lights off and everything locked before leaving.
- See you tomorrow Frank - Ash said, saying goodbye
- Sure, see you tomorrow morning - said Frank, who turned around and began to walk towards the center of the city
Ash watched for a few seconds as Frank walked away towards his house?... Now that Ash thought about it, he didn't know if Frank was staying in a hotel or if he had gotten a definite place to stay.
- I'll have to ask him tomorrow...- Ash said, thinking out loud, as he took Misty's hand and started walking towards the beach
- What thing? Whom? - Misty asked confused
- Oh... To Frank... I don't know if he is staying in a hotel or if he is renting a house or something
- Oh... I guess he'll have to find something permanent right?
- I guess... Although now that I think about it... Should Frank travel with me when I has to go to activities in other regions or does he have to stay here?.- Ash asked to no one in particular
- I don't know... I suppose that being your assistant he should go with you... - answered Misty uncertainly - although the truth is I don't really know how works this assistants things
- Haha me neither .. I'll ask Mr. Goodshow tomorrow
- And? How has your day been? Was it how you imagined it?
- It's... I don't know, I wouldn't know how to describe it... But it definitely felt spectacular - Ash replied with a big smile
- I'm glad... - Misty said returning Ash's smile - What was the surprise that Mr. Goodshow had for you at today's meeting?
- Oh... it was a meeting by video call with the other Champions - Ash explained - he met with them before to tell them that he had chosen a Champion for Alola... Then he made me enter the meeting (to surprise the others)... And then we talk a little about the meetings/trainings that I will have with each Champion
- Oh, I see... So he managed to surprise everyone during the meeting haha- said Misty
At that moment the beach appeared in front of them, with beautiful colors as a result of a beautiful sunset.
- Let's go there... At the end of the beach there is a restaurant I've wanted to go to for a long time - Ash said
- Ok... But can we first sit down for a moment to watch the sunset?
- Sure, do you like there? - Ash said pointing to a place ahead
A few meters further on there was a section of the beach that had several palm trees together and a few rocks and plants at its base, it was a perfect place to sit and watch the sunset.
- Yes! Come on... - Misty said, starting to walk towards it - Where did you get those new clothes from?
- You like them? This is my official outfit as Champion Professor Kukui and Professor Burnett chose it
- I like it... It gives you that air of Champion, but without losing your essence - Misty said, sitting on one of the rocks under the palm trees
- Yes, I like it too - Ash said, sitting down next to Misty. Pikachu for his part sat on the other side of Ash, trying not to disturb the happy couple - it's also very comfortable... Although here in Alola I'll leave the gloves only for battles or official events
- Haha that's right, it's too hot to always use them - Misty said, admiring Ash's fingers that were intertwined with hers - I must say that I really like your hat, it looks great with the logo on it
- So you think?
-Yes...-Misty said, leaning her head on Ash's right shoulder to continue watching the sunset - What did your mom say when you talked to her?
- She was very happy... she said that she had seen the press conference with Professor Oak and Tracey...
- Do you know how the others reacted?
- She said that she and Tracey had screamed, but the Professor didn't seem too surprised... Apparently he managed to decipher the letters
- I wouldn't be surprised...
- How did everything work at home? Were you able to get Goh to watch the press conference without him suspecting anything? - asked Ash, placing his right arm on Misty when noticing that it had started to blow a bit of wind
- Oh, yes... I thought it would be more difficult... after breakfast...- Misty said - About 20 minutes before the start of the press conference, with Evan we already had everything ready in the lounhe room on the second floor, Evan had even prepared drinks and sandwiches for the three of us. Goh had sat in one of the sofa to wait, when the letter arrived...
- How did he react? - Ash asked.
- Puzzled, he didn't understand why someone would send him a letter in Alola... And when he read it he only got more confused haha - Misty said with a small laugh - he was so focused trying to decipher the letter that he didn't notice when Frank went downstairs to prepare everything so that your Pokemon could also observe
- Really?
- Yes, in fact I had to take the letter from him when the press conference started
- haha And then how did he react? - Ash asked. He was very happy that he was able to send the letter to his friends, but he would have loved to see their reactions upon hearing the news... They had supported him all these years, and had been with him celebrating the victories ...
- Would you like to see it?
- What? What are you talking about?
- I know you would have loved to see the reaction of everyone else when hearing the news
- Yeah...
- I can't tell you how the others reacted, but I can show you Goh's... I recorded it - Misty said with a smile
- Really?!
- Yes... Now be quiet, look - Misty said, handing him his cell phone so he could watch the video
- And he didn't notice?
- No... I left it recording when he was reading the letter over and over again... - Misty explained - I already edited the video and deleted those initial minutes... I only left his reaction to the announcement
- Great - Ash said, looking at the screen - Pikachu come and see Goh
- Pika!
On the screen the image showed the sofa where Misty, Goh and Evan were sitting, but the image was somewhat crooked, apparently Misty had tried to make her cell phone go unnoticed. You could see how Goh was sitting between Misty and Evan, absentmindedly watching the press conference while taking a little drink from his glass. As soon as Ash hit the play button, Mr. Goodshow's voice could be clearly heard.
- Who we have chosen is a great leader and has great skills in battle, he has participated in the leagues of the different regions, being very well positioned in all of them, he also successfully completed the battle frontier of Kanto He has fought against criminal organizations in the different regions, and has even helped the Pokemon Rangers on more than one occasion. He has always helped those who need it and has a great love for Pokémon... And something fundamental is that he loves Alola and greatly respects the traditions of its people...
Until that moment Goh had not shown any change in terms of his level of attention, since he continued to show no interest.
- Last year he helped defend Alola from the Ultra Beasts attack...he dazzled everyone with his performance at the Manalo Conference and his battle against Tapu Koko...
Goh still did not show any kind of reaction, since only a few weeks ago he had found out that Ash was the current champion of the Alola league, and he did not know the details of what had happened.
- And he has amazed you all with the exhibition battles from this previous week...
- Huh? - said Goh surprised - but Ash...
- With you the new Champion of Alola... ASH KETCHUM!
- What?! - Gob yelled, jumping to his feet and accidentally knocking his glass to the ground, which luckily was already empty.
Goh still very amazed looked at Misty and Evan, and seeing that they didn't seem amazed said
- You knew! - Goh turned his attention back to the tv, where he saw Ash put on his new hat
- That letter... It was from Ash...- he added understanding the situation -... But... why didn't he tell me before? - he said this time looking at Misty
But before Misty could reply, he began to hear Ash's voice.
- Thank you very much for this appointment, I feel very honored to be the first Alola Regional Champion... I would like to start by thanking Mr. Goodshow, Prof. Kukui and the Kahunas who trusted me for this appointment, my family and friends who have always been supporting me, and especially my Pokémon
In the background, roars and sounds of approval could be heard coming from the first floor. Hearing them, Goh turned around in surprise, while Misty and Evan just smiled.
- They are the ones who, thanks to their strength and ability, have made me look as a strong trainer, and they are the ones who have won the battles we have fought.. Definitely, without them I would not be sitting here..
Roars were heard again, this time with more force
- What's going on? - asked Goh puzzled, approaching the window, but not seeing anything strange he asked again -;What is that noise?
- Ash's Pokémon are watching the press conference on the first floor - Misty replied with a smile - you won't see them through that window, since it points to the front garden, they are in the back yard
- Oh... - said Goh, who returned to the sofa and watched the TV carefully, but without sitting down yet.
- I know that this is a surprise for all the inhabitants of Alola, and that perhaps many would have preferred someone local for the position, but I assure you that together with my Pokémon we will give our best effort to be able to represent you in the best way against the others. regions... And not only that... For about a year I lived in Alola, I met many people here and everyone made me feel at home, they welcomed me and treated me with great care... During that time I was able to enjoy of the wonders of Alola and its landscapes, meeting its people and its Pokémon, seeing and living its oldest and most sacred traditions... Without realizing it, Alola became my home, a place that I love dearly and that together with my Pokémon we will protect with all our might...
Goh sat down again, leaning towards the tv, resting his elbows on his legs and his head in his hands. now very attentive
- I am very anxious and excited to start working... First with everything related to the new version of the Manalo Conference... And also with many ideas that I have for the future
-;He's the champion...the champion - Goh muttered quietly.
- I know that some may think that I am not worthy of this title, since I did not earn it properly by having battles with an Elite 4 or a previous Champion, or simply because I am not from Alola... I hope I can prove to everyone otherwise. .. During the past week together with Mr. Goodshow, the Kahuna and Prof. Kukui we have been working on the new aspects of the Alola League, and one of my main concerns was to take in consideration the traditions... Also I hope to show you the power of my Pokémon during the final battle of the festival... Thank you
- He's the champion... - Goh repeated in a low voice, then jumped up and shouted - He's the Champion!!
- Hahaha - Misty replied, also standing up - Believe it, he's the Champion... We'll celebrate with him later... Now sit down and let's watch the rest of the press conference
- Oh sure... I'm sorry
With this the video ended
- I don't know if it's the best reaction... But it's something - Misty said, taking his cell phone and putting it in her pocket.
- Thank you! - Ash said sincerely, hugging Misty tightly and then giving her a passionate kiss.
- Ehm... You're welcome? - Misty said, somewhat surprised by the intensity of the kiss - ... I'm not complaining, but what was all that for?
- Thanks for the video... It was a nice surprise... Not only because of Goh's reaction, but I could also see your face while everything was happening... While I was talking... And I could hear my Pokémon celebrating... It was the only thing missing to make this day a perfect day... - said Ash, who upon seeing Misty's confused face added - when Mr Goodshow broke the news, the journalists present in the room had no further reaction. .. And when I spoke either...
- Oh, I see... Difficult audience... - Misty said, understanding Ash's apprehension.
- Yes... Especially the journalists from Alola... They were the most reluctant
- Don't worry... I'm sure everyone will be very happy with this news... Have you heard anything about how they reacted in other regions?
- Yes... The preliminary reports that Frank received say that they all agreed with the appointment, and that in Kanto they were especially happy.
- I imagine... Lance is the Champion of Kanto and Johto, and you're Alola...really a bit hoarders haha - Misty said, trying to calm Ash down a bit - Give them some time... You'll see that in a few days everyone in Alola will be happy
- Thanks Misty - Ash said, squeezing Misty's hand, seeing that the sunset had already ended, he added - Shall we go?
- Yes ..
Ash and Misty walked along the beach holding hands enjoying each other's company in silence.
In less than 10 minutes they had reached their destination, a very nice and apparently very fashionable restaurant. It had a large terrace with many tables, and there was even a small band playing live music.
- Do you prefer that we look for a table inside? - Misty asked - so we can talk more calmly...
- Yes, better that way... Although the music is very good
- Maybe before we leave we can go out for a while to enjoy the show
- It's not a bad idea - Ash said, approaching the entrance of the restaurant
As soon as they approached the entrance one of the workers approached them
- Good evening, do you prefer a table inside or... - said the waiter, who when he recognized Ash and Pikachu had remained silent - ... Outside
- Inside if possible - Ash said, keeping calm in front of the astonished face of the waiter
- Ehm... Ok,... this way Champion Ash - said the waiter, a tall and thin boy of about 20 years old, guiding them to a table that was in a corner with a nice view of the moonlit beach
As soon as they were seated, the boy handed them the menus and quickly left, blushing.hard
- I thought he would pass out from the emotion haha - said Misty
- It's not funny...
- Oh sure it is...
- Maybe a little... - Ash admitted, as he flipped through his menu -;... But when he comes back don't say anything to him that will embarrass him more.
- Okay, I'll behave...
A few minutes later, they were already enjoying their dinner. The boy had come back to take his order, and he had managed to bring everything with no problems, to Misty's astonishment.
- What did you talk to Professor Cerise? - Misty asked.
- Oh... Not much... - Ash said, before taking a large spoonful of food to his mouth - ...he was very understanding... In fact he suggested that he would like that I continue helping with some investigations, as long as my schedule allows it
- That is good, no?
- Yes... I will no longer stay in the laboratory, but I will be able to accompany Goh on some of the research trips.
- Great... The truth is that at first I was very surprised that you were staying at the laboratory, I didn't imagine you as a researcher, but on second thought I think it makes a lot of sense...
- Really?
- Of course! On the one hand, I know that you love Pokémon and want to know more about them... And on the other hand, Pokémon tend to trust you very easily, so they tend to do things in your presence that they would only do if no one was looking. .. - Misty explained - Besides, the strangest things happen around you... It's a spectacular opportunity to investigate
- Ehm... Thanks?... I think...
- Haha... Have you talked to anyone else apart from your mom and Brock?
- No, not yet... I haven't even checked my cell phone... I only saw quickly that I have many missed calls and many messages - Ash said - I thought I would check them more calmly when we had finished eating
- Not a bad idea - Misty said, taking a spoonful of her half-finished dinner - ... And what are your plans for tomorrow?
- I have a meeting with Frank to see my agenda for the next few weeks, then a meeting with the Alola authorities... - Ash said
- Oh, that sounds... Fun... - said Misty
- Yes, of course... Later, if I have time, I must review the application forms of the aspiring gym leaders... and in the afternoon is the contest in which I will be a judge...
- Oh, a busy day
- Yes ..
- I guess we'll see each other at night then - Misty said, finishing off what was left on her plate.
- It does not bother you?
- Of course not, don't be ridiculous - Misty said, before taking some of his juice - Would I like to be able to spend more time with you? Of course I do... But it would be very unfair of me to get mad at you because you have to fulfill your duties as Champion... Especially when I'm usually very busy with my duties as a gym leader
- It's true... I had forgotten that your vacations are ending soon - Ash said, somewhat discouraged - I think we won't have much time to see each other later...
- No... But for the same reason we will have to make the most of every time we see each other - Misty said, taking Ash's hand, and with a smile she added - also Mr. Goodshow said that you could use the league's helicopter if you needed
- Hahaha I doubt that going to see you counts as an emergency...
- Too bad - replied Misty with a smile - although later on we won't be so far apart... Your house will be very close to the gym
- It's true... Although Frank hasn't told me anything about it yet - Ash said thoughtfully
- He must have been very busy with today's announcement.. surely he will give you news soon
- I hope so...
At that moment, Ash and Misty's cell phones rang at the same time, both receiving message notifications.
- Oh... I haven't checked my cell phone yet... - Ash said, taking his cell phone out of his pocket
At that moment the waiter approached the table to remove the empty plates.
- Are you going to want some dessert? - offered the boy, while he removed the plates
Ash and Misty looked at each other, so they could decide
- What do you think if we go out to the terrace later to enjoy the show while eating something sweet? - Misty asked Ash.
- Yes, that way we can read this calmly before going outside...- answered Ash, who then addressed the boy - not at the moment, thanks... But later we would like to be able to go out to the terrace, and eat something sweet there.. . It's possible?
- Of-of course... No problem... Champion Ash- answered the boy somewhat nervously
- Great thanks
The boy took the tray with the dirty dishes and left
- I think you'll have to leave an autograph with the tip Ash - Misty said between laughs
- Misty... - Ash said, somewhat embarrassed by the situation.
To change the subject he decided to look at his cell phone. He had missed calls from Prof. Oak, Gary, Dawn, Max and various numbers that he had not saved.
- I have several missed calls from numbers I don't recognize... - Ash said
- Didn't you say your number would be on the internet? - Misty asked.
- Yes, but the one in Frank's office... The one in my office will be available to people related to the League, but my cell phone is not supposed to be public...
- Then they must be known people who called, only you don't have them saved... - Misty concluded - they'll call again
- You're right... - Ash said, looking at his cell phone again.
Looking more calmly, Ash saw that he had several messages on his voice mail.
- I have 7 messages in the voice mail... Maybe they are from one of those unknown numbers... - Ash said
- Can I listen too? - Misty asked - I have my headphones in my backpack
- Sure...- Ash answered, connecting the headphones that Misty gave him to his cell phone.
Misty for her part changed seats to be closer to Ash. As soon as Misty was ready Ash hit the voicemail icon.
"Congratulations Ash! I knew I hadn't made a mistake selecting you all those years ago... As much as I would have loved to have you as the frontier brain, I know you wouldn't be where you are now if that was the case... I'm so happy for you!"
- That was Scott! - Ash said excited when he recognized the voice of the one in charge of the Battle Frontier
"Congratulations Ash! This is a great achievement for you and your pokemon, I imagine Squirtle is happy... I hope we can talk soon to see if Squirtle comes back with us or not. Greetings, and congratulations again!"
- That was Officer Jenny in charge of the Squirtle squad, right? - Misty said
- Yes... I think I'll have to talk to Squirtle to see what he thinks about it - Ash said, quickly before the next message began
" Congratulations Ash! We are very proud that our Rota tournament champion and guardian of the Kingdom is the new Champion of Alola. Please do not hesitate to visit us when you have the opportunity. Best regards from Rota"
- That was Queen Ilene - Ash said very astonished - How did she get my number?
- It's a Queen Ash... Getting a phone number shouldn't be difficult
- Oh...
"Congratulations Ash! I am very happy for this achievement. Knowing you I know you will do very well, especially if you have the help of Greninja"
- Who was he? - Misty asked.
- Professor Sycamore
"Congratulations Ash! I knew I wasn't wrong about you... Not only did you manage to bring my friend back to the battles, but now you are the Champion! We definitely have to have a battle!"
- Haha that was Flint, Sinnoh's Elite 4 - Ash said when he saw Misty's confused face
"Ash, congratulations on this achievement! I am very happy for you, and I have no doubt that you are the best suited to protect the region, you will do excellent! I hope I can count on your help in future missions!"
- Missions? Misty asked.
- That was Solana, a Pokémon Ranger
- Have you helped her before?
- Yeah, a few times...
"Congratulations Ash! I'm so happy for you... I'm sure Paul will be very impressed with this"
- Impressed? Ha... I think rather angry...
- Is that Paul from Sinnoh? - Misty asked.
- Yes, that was his brother Reggie - said Ash
- Was that the last one?
- Yes...
- Did any of those who left messages match the missed calls from unknown numbers? Misty asked.
- Yes, Queen Ilene, Solana and Flint... I had the others saved...- Ash said as he looked at his cell phone-... There are still 3 missed calls that I don't know who they are from
- They'll call again... Check the messages, I'm sure everyone is anxious for you to answer
Ash then opened the application where the conversation groups with his friends were. He had a lot of messages
"Max: You are the Champion! You are the Champion!
May: Ahhhhhhhh!!!
Dawn: What a thrill!!
Tracey: Congratulations Ash!
Gary: Very well done Ashy-boy
Brock: You deserve it Ash! thanks for the letter by the way
Dawn: Did he send you a letter too?
Brock: Yeah, and I managed to figure it out just before the press conference started.
Max: How did you know it was from Ash?
Gary: I see I wasn't the only one to figure it out.
May: Oh, I couldn't guess whose it was...
Tracey: Me and Mrs. Ketchum either, but the Professor did... And apparently Brock did too.
May: How did Ash's mom react? Did she know from before?
Tracey: No, she didn't know. It was a surprise for her
Max: Didn't he tell her own mother?!
Misty: You finally know! I couldn't stand the secret anymore
Maya: Did you know?
Max: Did you know?!
Dawn: That's not fair!
Misty: I'm sorry guys, but Mr. Goodshow asked Ash to keep it a secret, that's why he didn't even tell his mom. But since it was very big news, he told him that he could tell me, so that it would not be so difficult to keep the secret.
May: Oh, that's right... It must have been really hard to keep a secret like that.
Misty: Yes, he really wanted to tell you in person, that's why he sent the letters... So that it would somehow be special for you too
Max: Well, I didn't figure it out before the press conference like Gary or Brock, but it did make it special when I found out it was his.
Dawn: It's true, it was something very sweet
Tracey: It's amazing to think that the same Ash I knew so many years ago is now the Champion of Alola.
Brock: You don't even say it...
Misty: It's true... Somehow I feel that the three of us had a lot to do with this.
Brock: Yes, we helped at the beginning, but the rest is all his credit
Tracey: That's true, but I'm still very proud of Ash.
Brock: I didn't say otherwise.
May: We are all very proud Ash!
Dawn: It's true, maybe we don't fulfill the same role as Brock, Misty and Tracey... But we are just as proud!
Max: In fact, I think that with you two it was the other way around, right? Ash was the one who taught you many things... In fact you taught me many things too Ash! I am also very proud of you!
May: Do you have something ready to celebrate?
Misty: Ash is still in his office with Mr. Goodshow seeing how the news was received in the different regions, but in a while we'll get together for lunch with his friends from Alola, we'll have a little celebration there
Max: His office?
Misty: It's the Champion Max, obviously he has his own office now...Along with several other things.
Mai: What do you mean?
Misty: Being a Champion includes many responsibilities, but also many benefits... But I think Ash will want to tell you about them himself.
Dawn: Oh come on Misty, just tell us something.
Misty: Ehm... Well, I can tell you that he has an assistant...
Max: wow
Gary: Surely there are more benefits, especially financial... The league makes a lot of money with all the merchandising they sell, as well as the tickets for the different activities...
Brock: That's right, maybe we'll see Ash's in Merchandising stores soon.
Max: That would be great!
May: Wouldn't that be weird? Walking around with a shirt with our friend's face on it?
Dawn: hahaha... VERY strange
Max: No, it's not... I want to have some of that merchandising
Brock: Well, seeing as Ash is a bit busy I'll try to call him later, now I have to go study. see you later guys
May: Brock is right, maybe when Ash wold be able to answer us...
Dawn: I'll go practice meanwhile"
- Wow, they talked a lot - said Ash, when he finished reading the messages of the first group
- What did you expect? They were all excited... - Misty replied - Will you answer? Or will you read the other groups first?
- I think I better answer right away...
"Ash: Hey guys! Thanks for all your messages. I'm so glad you liked the letters
Max: Ash!
Ash: Hi Max... How's the training going? Remember that we have a pending battle...
Max: Really? Do you still want to have a battle with me?
Ash: Sure! Why would I have changed my mind?
Max: Because now you are the Champion..
Ash: And? That just makes the battle more interesting, doesn't it?
Max: Yes!!
Dawn: Hello Mr. Champion
Ash: Hello Dawn
Dawn: I must say that it's great to be able to say that I saw the beginnings of the counter shield and ice aquajet that the Champion of Alola uses.
Ash: hahaha... You could perfectly say that they were your idea...
Dawn: Yes... But I couldn't put them into practice, unlike you...
May: Ash! i'm so happy for you
Ash: Thank you May
Gary: You had it well guarded Ashy-boy
Brock: Now that I think about it though... It was kind of obvious.
Ash: what?
Brock: A whole festival full of battles for you to shine in them?... We should have suspected that something was up
Gary: It would have been funny if Ash had lost all his battles.
Ash: ha ha... You would have loved that, wouldn't you Gary?
Max: I guess that's why Ash has been using all of his Pokémon, to make sure he wins.
Ash: That's right... And because Professor Kukui wanted me to show how strong my Pokémon are...
May: You definitely did it, everyone has shone
Dawn: And the strongest have not participated yet
Max: It's true! That last battle will be great!
May: Who will you use in the last battle?
Max: I know! Pikachu, Charizard, Sceptile are still missing...
Dawn: Infernape...
Brock: Lucario...
Ash: And Greninja
May: Greninja is with you?
Ash: Yeah... He finished his job in Kalos, so he's back on the team.
Max: Oh wow! That team of 6 Pokémon is very strong Ash! Although I've never seen your Lucario fight, I guess you have a good connection through the aura
Ash: Yes... Very good...
Dawn: Will you stay and live in Alola?
Ash: I haven't decided yet... But I probably constantly travel...
Tracey: ...The house where you're staying...
Misty: It's Ash's!
Ash: Misty! It's not really mine, it's the Champion house
Brock: So it's yours until further notice
Ash: ...Yes...
Dawn: Great! We must go then!
Misty: You'll love it! It is very beautiful
Ash: Sorry guys, I'd love to continue chatting with you, but I still have a lot of unread messages...
May: Sure Ash, good night and keep enjoying!"
- It would be great to have a vacation all together - said Misty
- Yes... But not for now, I wouldn't even have time to see them
Ash then opened the second group chat
"Cilan: You are the Champion! Congratulations Ash!
Iris: I'm so happy for you Ash!
Cilan: Did you know?
Iris: Nope! I found out just a few minutes before the press conference
Cilan: I'm sure you'll give a very interesting flavor to being Champion Ash, you'll do excellent
Iris: I'm sure you'll do great!"
- Oh, it's true Iris found out along with the other Champions - said Misty
- Did you know that she was the Unova Champion?
-Yeah...she was on the news a few weeks ago...didn't you know that?
- Of course not!
- Really? And she didn't mention it in the chat you have?
- No... and I didn't see the news... I found out today when I saw her with the other Champions...
- Oh...
-How long ago was it? I still can't believe I didn't find out...
-Mmm... Come to think of it her final battle was the day before the crisis with Eternatus, or something like that... That's why you didn't watch the news, you were busy saving the world again haha
- Oh...
- Although there were several previous battles that you could have seen... But surely you were busy with something else... - Misty said - Don't feel bad Ash, it's over and there's nothing you can do about it but apologize and congratulate her
- You're right...
"Ash: Hey guys! Thanks for your congratulations. And again I'm sorry Iris for not knowing you were the Unova Champion..
Cilan: Didn't you know?
Ash: No... Why didn't you say anything?
Cilan: I thought you saw the news..
Ash: No... I was involved in the crisis that affected Galar at that time... I never knew about your battle Iris, I'm sorry
Iris: Okay Ash... Lionel told us what happened with Eternatus, I guess that's why you didn't find out...
Ash: And why didn't you say anything then?
Iris: I was waiting so I could give you the surprise
Ash: Waiting for what?
Iris: Just the right time to challenge you in a Coronation World Championship battle
Ash: Are you also participating?
Iris: Of course I do! So get ready, because when we meet, we will have a battle!
Ash: Great!
Cilan: You must tell me so I can go see it
Iris: Sure!
Ash: Sorry guys, but I still have a lot of unread messages... We'll talk later"
- That battle will be interesting... - said Misty
- Yes... I must start training if I want to beat Iris
- Is she in the same class as you?
- Oh... I don't know... I'll ask her later
It was then time to review the last group
"Bonnie: Ash!! .Congratulations!! I can not believe it!!
Serena: Congratulations Ash! Oh, I'm so happy for you!
Clemont: This is great Ash! I am sure you will be a great Champion
Bonnie: You will be the best!
Serena: Now it makes sense that you've had so many battles lately.
Clemont: It's true, they wanted Ash to shine and people to know him a little more before the appointment
Bonnie: It sure worked, Ash's battles have been spectacular. By the way Ash, thanks for the letter! I will keep it as a memory
Serena: Did he also send you a letter?
Bonnie: Yes! Of course I didn't get it until after the announcement, but I think Clemont suspected something.
Serena: Really? I didn't get it until later either.
Clemont: Well, at first I didn't get it either, until the conference started and it all made sense... I only found out a few minutes before the big announcement.
Serena: I'm glad Ash asked us to watch the press conference today... or we would have missed the big announcement.
Clemont: It's true, I didn't plan to see it...
Bonny; ...Ash doesn't answer us..
Serena: He must be very busy right now... He will surely answer us as soon as he can"
Wasting no more time, Ash began to answer
"Ash: Hey guys! Thanks for your regards. I'm sorry I couldn't answer sooner
Bonnie: Ash! How does it feel to be the Champion?
Ash: It feels great!! And more now that I can share it with you. I really wanted to tell you
Clemont: I guess Mr. Goodshow asked you to keep it a secret...
Ash: Yes... He likes surprises hehe
Serena: Ash! Congratulations! Not only for the appointment, you also did very well during the press conference
Ash: Really? Thank you..."
- She's right - Misty said - You explained everything very well and very clearly... And you handled yourself well when answering the questions
- What a relief... I didn't want to ruin things.
- Don't worry, you did great... You also have to get used to this... Since it probably won't be your last encounter with the press
- You're right...
"Bonnie: Yeah! Although that last reporter was kind of nosy
Ash: Hehe, yeah... I'm glad you were able to decipher the letter Clemont
Clemont: I didn't understand it at first, but while I was trying to think of someone with the initials A.K. The press conference just started... I saw you appear on camera and it all made sense...
Ash: I wanted to be the one to tell you first, even if you couldn't understand the message
Serena: It was very sweet Ash, thank you
Bonnie: Were you able to celebrate?
Ash: Of course I do! It's been a very celebrated day... And I'm still on it haha
Clemont: I guess you're saving Greninja for the big battle this weekend.
Ash: Obviously! You'll see, Saturday's battle will be spectacular
Clemont: I want to see it already... Well, I think we should let you continue celebrating... it's your big day after all
Serena: That's right... Go celebrate, we'll talk another time... Congratulations again!
Bonnie: Congratulations Ash!
Ash: Thanks guys!"
- Ash... You haven't told Serena about us yet, have you? Misty asked.
- Ehm.,. No...-Ash answered somewhat uncomfortable with the subject... Misty didn't look angry, but he didn't want to say something inappropriate - Why do you ask?
- You should talk to her Ash... - Seeing Ash's astonished face, Misty added - I'm not trying to mark my territory or anything like that...
- Then?
- I just think it would be better for her to hear it from you than for her to find out from the press...
- Oh...
- She is still your friend... and finding out about something like that through the press will be very painful for her...
- You're right...
-I'm sure the girl from the press conference won't stay calm until she manages to find out something Ash... sooner or later she's going to find out about us and tell everyone
- Yes... I'll talk to her..
- What if I go find a table on the terrace meanwhile? I'll wait for you there... - Misty said standing up and kissing him on the cheek before walking away to the terrace with Pikachu.
A few minutes later Ash went out to the terrace in search of Misty. The band was still playing, and everyone at the various tables seemed to be enjoying the show. After a quick look around, Ash spotted Misty and Pikachu at a table on the side of the stage.
Ash started to walk towards Misty, not realizing that everyone around him was turning to get a better look at him, and that many were muttering "he's the Champion"
- I think you drew a bit of attention - Misty told him as soon as he sat down in front of her
Ash looked around him, and seeing that the vast majority had their eyes on him, he waved shyly before turning his attention back to Misty.
- Don't worry, it'll pass... It's the first day, everyone is expected to be very excited
- I hope so...
- Were you able to talk to Serena?
- Yes...
- Everything's fine?
- I hope so... She was sad, but she thanked me for tell her personally...
- Give her a little time... - Misty said, taking Ash's hand and giving it a little squeeze - you'll see that soon everything will be as before
- Thank you ..
To Ash's relief, the others quickly turned their attention back to the band's show, so he and Misty were able to do the same.
About an hour later, Ash and Misty were walking hand in hand down the beach, almost making it back home.
The little band's show had been very entertaining, even in the last songs many of the attendees had been encouraged to dance. Misty hadn't missed the opportunity and had taken Ash's hand to guide him towards the improvised dance floor that had been spontaneously assembled in front of the stage.
After the band left, Ash had paid the bill, not forgetting to leave an autograph for the guy who had waited on them all night.
- Thanks for this beautiful night - Misty said, adjusting Ash's jacket that was on his shoulders. It was a cool night again, and Ash had kindly passed his jacket to Misty on their way home.
- Thank you for sharing it with me - answered Ash with a smile - it was the best way to end a great day
- Yes... Although maybe we should have looked at the time a little earlier...-Misty said, looking at the beautiful Moon above her head - tomorrow you should get up early...
- It's okay, it's not that late yet.. besides with all the emotions from today I wouldn't have been able to fall asleep early
At that moment they entered the house, and to their surprise it was not silent despite the hour
- Huh? - both asked at the same time
- Good night guys - Evan said, approaching the door to greet them
- What's going on? - Ash asked.
- Oh, nothing... Your Pokemon are watching TV - Evan said, pointing to the garden where several of the Pokemon could be seen gathered in front of the TV
- Is that the TV we prepared for the press conference? - Misty asked.
- Yes, when we went out for lunch we left the TV on because they wanted to see the repetitions of your battles that were showing on the different channels... - Evan explained - When I arrived in the afternoon they were still in the same, and they are still in it ...
- Oh... I'll go talk to them - Ash said - And Goh?
- He was watching TV with them for a while... But he gi upstairs a few minutes ago
- Ok, thanks Evan... Go to bed if you want, I'll see that the Pokémon do the same - Ash said
- Well, good night,... - Evan said before retiring
Misty and Ash went out to the garden, where they found most of the Pokémon in front of the TV, commenting among themselves what they were seeing.
- Hi guys - Ash greeted - Could you see the press conference?
All the Pokémon nodded happily, then pointed to the TV
- What are you watching?
- Many of your battles... They have been reviewing them and seeing possible errors in their attacks or strategies - said Goh
- Huh? Hello Goh - Ash said to his friend, who was approaching them from inside the house
- I heard you arrive and I came to say hello... - said Goh - In many channels they have been reviewing your career, repeating battles from the different leagues, the battle frontier and even some contests...
- Oh...
- Also many people have been sending their own video of you... - explained Goh
- What do you mean? - Ash asked confused.
- Many people had videos of you fighting with Team Rocket or with other bad guys... Or Ultra Beasts... Or together with some legendary... - explained Goh - most of them are taken with their cell phones or cameras
- Oh..
- There have also been testimonials videos from people who say that you were in their city and helped them in one way or another... Or that you saved them from a Pokémon attack... Or that you participated in some local competition and won. ..
- Oh, wow - said Misty - you definitely won't go unnoticed anymore
- Nope! That's why they've been talking about you all day Ash... The more testimonials videos arrive... The more excited they look
- Really? - Ash asked incredulously.
- Believe me... Every minute you have more admirers - Goh said with a smile - Is it true that you were in Alamos City during the crisis?
- Yes... Did it appear on TV?
- Yes... Along with many other things...
- Great - Ash said somewhat discouraged. Now the whole world would know about his adventures, and that meant having to explain them or talk about them in interviews.
- Come on Ash, I know you don't like to talk about those things... But sooner or later the world would know about them, especially if people could recognize you now - said Misty
- I know but ..
- You could take advantage of the opportunity that the stories have already come to light and simply explain them - said Misty
- What are you talking about?
- You know how the press is. If they don't know the true story, they'll make up one... And surely the made up version won't be good...
- She is right, it is better if you tell your version from the beginning - added Goh
- But I don't want to do it...
- I know you don't want to, but if you're the one telling the stories, you can from the beginning see how much detail to give, or not give, about it... If you don't, the press will start to investigate and they'll end up finding out anyway, adding invented parts...
- Okay... But I'll talk about it first with Mr. Goodshow - said Ash - he said that he was responsible for many of the stories not reaching the press before...
- It's a good idea, maybe he can guide you as to how much to tell of each story - said Misty
At that moment one of the battles they were showing came to an end, and they began to show the video of a boy with several Arcanine
"Several years ago Ash helped my sister Ramona and I. Mounted on our Arcanines we dedicated ourselves to carrying delicate packages from one city to another.
That time we had been commissioned to deliver a prize package to a festival in a nearby city. But some criminals stole it. Ash and his friends helped us look for them, so we could get back what they had stolen. We made it, but in the process I hurt my arm, so I couldn't guide Arcanine.
At that moment Ash took control of the situation, mounted Arcanine and in just a couple of minutes he could guide it without problems.
Not only did he help us complete our assignment, but he amazed us at how quickly he learned to guide Arcanine, and how easily he gained his trust."
Kegan's video finished, and they began to show another battle
- That's what I meant - said Goh, pointing to the tv
- Oh...
- Haha with stories like that I'm not surprised that everyone is crazy about you Ash... - Misty said between laughs - ... Especially because there are thousands of stories like that
- Ha ha... - Ash said, not as amused with the subject as Misty.
- Hey, it's not my fault that you help everyone who crosses your path - said Misty
- Hmp... - Ash grumbled, before turning around and heading towards the TV to turn it off - I'm sorry guys, but it's late and it's time to sleep... - when the Pokémon started to argue, he added - Tomorrow I'll have a very busy day, but I look forward to training with you guys a bit in the afternoon, okay? Now to sleep...
Quickly all the Pokémon began to move away, meanwhile Misty and Goh returned the TV to its place in the lounge room
- Okay guys, I'll go to bed, see you tomorrow - Misty said, kissing Ash goodbye, then returned his jacket and headed towards the stairs
- Good night Misty - Ash said, and then added - Wait Goh... Can we talk? - Ash asked, sitting down on one of the sofas.
- Sure... What's up? - Goh said, sitting down next to him.
- Nothing, .. I just wanted you to know that I am very happy that you are here with me at this important moment. Thank you
- Ehm... I'm glad to be part of it...
- I spoke with Professor Cerise a while ago
- I know...
- And he gave me a great idea... You see, I won't be able to live in the lab with you anymore, because I'll have other responsibilities...
- Oh... - Goh said discouraged
- But that doesn't mean I can't go on research trips with you
- Really?
- Yep... Obviously these first few weeks my schedule will be crazy, and I won't have free time... but later everything will be easier, and it wouldn't be so difficult to be able to coordinate the times to be able to accompany you on a research trip
- Cool!
- In addition, there will always be the option that you come to Alola whenever you want... Or that we get together on some of the trips that I have to do
- Thanks Ash... So you're really not sure if you'll live in Alola?
- No, I haven't decided yet .. but most likely I'll end up living half the time in Alola and the other in Kanto
- Really?
- Yes... As you know, this house is mine, for now... But the league also gave me another house...
- Another house?!
- Yes, one that will really be mine, regardless of whether I am still a Champion or not..
- Wow! That is awesome!
- I know!... The thing is that my idea is for that house to be on the outskirts of Saffron City... That way I'll be close to my mom, the League, Misty, Brock... And the Laboratory of Professor Cerise...
- Cool!
- So don't worry too much... We'll continue investigating together - Ash finished with a smile
- I'm glad Ash - said Goh - and I'm really happy for you, I know you'll be a great Champion
- Thanks Goh - said Ash, offering his fist to Goh, for a friendly fist bump
- You better go to bed, you don't want to be late on your first official day as Champion - Goh said, standing up
- You're right, let's go - Ash said also standing up
Once in his room, Ash headed to the bathroom, and the first thing he did was look at himself in the mirror. Looking at him in the reflection was a young man with a big smile on his face, and eyes filled with illusion and conviction palpable to the naked eye. His reflection looked different from this morning, he really didn't know what it was, perhaps his posture (now more upright and full of confidence), his gaze (more confident and determined), the new clothing or simply a special aura that seemed to surround him... But it definitely looked very different from this morning
After brushing his teeth and putting on pajamas, Ash went to bed to review all the events of the day in his mind. Yes, it had been a great day
- And tomorrow everything begins... - Ash said in a low voice before closing his eyes and turning to the right, only to start snoring a few seconds later.
.
I hope you like the chapter... it came out a bit long...
I hope that the conversations in the chat groups have not become too tangled... but in real life they are like that, each one talks about their own thing haha especially when there are many people who talk at the same time
I had planned to make a chapter only with the reactions of the others when they saw the press conference... what do you think? Or is it better to just keep moving forward in the story?
Thanks for all your reviews :D
