Chapter 28- Running into another old friend

Adam's POV

"Hey, don't worry about it, Adam. Everything is going to be okay, I promise," Dad said as we stepped off the Elevator in the lobby.

"You think so? Because I don't want to lose Gunnar," I said.

Dad rolled his eyes at me before he said, "Adam I am going to do everything in my power to keep Gunnar here until the summer. And then well, he might have to go home for 6 to 8 weeks, but he would be back in the fall."

"If he comes back," I said.

"I am sure he will be back, he loves you, why would he not be back? Whoa!" Dad said as he stopped to look at the Stretch Limousine that looked brand new.

"Wow, that is awesome," I said.

"You know, I used to ride around in one of these," Dad said.

"Yeah Dad, I know you told me and Bella like a million times," I said.

"I wonder who's Limo it is?" Dad asked.

I shrugged my shoulders before I said, "Come on Dad, let's go. I want to get my books and get to the hotel before Gunnar does."

"I'll be damned Gordon Bombay?" asked a voice from behind us.

Dad and I turned around, "Lewis? Lewis Stevenson? I don't believe it," Dad said. He was a tall person about my height, heavy set with brown hair that was going bald and graying, with a mustache.

"Yep, how are you sir?" Lewis asked.

"Great and yourself?" Dad asked.

"Good, now I don't ever remember you ever having a son," Lewis said.

"You remember Adam and Bella Banks?" Dad asked.

"Yes, of course," Lewis said chuckling.

"This is Adam," Dad said.

"Adam?" Lewis asked and then he looked at me up and down.

"Yep," I said.

"My God you are just as tall as me now. The last time I saw you, you were this high," Lewis said as he put his hand next to his chest.

"Yeah," I said as I blushed.

"How is Bella?" Lewis asked.

"She's good, she's going to go to Wisconsin next year. To play hockey," I said.

"What about you? Are you still playing?" Lewis asked.

"Yeah, not sure where I will be next year yet. But I am the captain of the Eden Hall Mighty Ducks," I said.

"Wow, I am going to have to check out a game, are all the original ducks on the team?" Lewis asked.

"Most of us are Tammy and Tommy moved. Dave Karp and Peter are off doing something I am not sure what and Terry is playing basketball at Southwest High," I said.

"That is awesome," Lewis said.

"Lewis I can't believe that you are still driving Limos?" Dad asked.

"Yeah, in fact I am one of the owners of Aspen Limo Service. Someone else was supposed to drive the client I have today, but got sick, so I had to fill in," Lewis said.

"So, who's the client?" Dad asked.

"Well, I can't tell you his name, but he is the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Iceland or something," Lewis said.

"You mean Gunnar's father?" Dad and I said together.

"You know him?" Lewis asked with his eyebrows clinched together.

"Yeah, he's not a very nice person. I feel sorry for my boyfriend," I said.

"Boy? Oh! Well good for you Adam," Lewis said as he chuckled.

"Thanks," I said.

"We have a game tonight, if you want to come," Dad said.

"Yeah, I should totally check it out, where is it at?" Lewis asked.

"Eden Hall Ice Arena, 7:00," Dad said.

"Sounds good, so what are you up to now Gordon?" Lewis asked.

"I went back to being a Lawyer and an assistant coach with Eden Hall," Dad said.

"Really? The last I knew you were off for a tryout to the minor leagues," Lewis said.

"Yep, got injured. Coach the Ducks to the Gold medal in the Junior Goodwill Games. Worked with Hans for a while. Then got offered the Director of Player Personnel for the Junior Goodwill Hockey Program. Moved to California; moved back to Minnesota; moved back to California. Got married and had a kid. Moved back to Minnesota, adopted Adam, Bella, and Ollie. I have another kid on the way due in March and the rest is history," Dad said.

"Wow, that is awesome," Lewis said as he chuckled.

"Yeah, Michele is great," Dad said.

"I am definitely going to have to meet her and your family," Lewis said.

"Yeah, and you?" Dad asked.

"Well, I haven't had that much change, I started Aspen in 1995 and; get this I am a grandfather now," Lewis said.

"Get out of here," Dad and I said together.

"Yeah, Rodrick. Where Jenny came up with that one, I will never know," Lewis said as he showed us a picture of his grandson.

"Oh, he's adorable. This is Hans," Dad said as he showed Han's picture.

"Oh cutie, takes after his mom, doesn't he?" Lewis said.

"Yeah. Let me guess you wanted Freddie?" Dad asked.

"Freddie?" I asked.

"Yeah, for Freddie Mercury," Lewis said.

I looked at Lewis weird.

"Lead singer of Queen," Dad said.

"Oh," I said.

"Well, we are definitely going to have to get together sometime and catch up," Lewis said.

"Yeah, let me give you my phone number," Dad said as he dug a business card out of his wallet.

"Ahem," said a voice behind us.

I turned around and saw Gunnar in a wheelchair, with a nurse pushing him, his father walking beside him and Draupnir carrying Gunnar's suitcase.

"Oh right, I guess I have to get back to work," Lewis said.

"Right," Dad said.

"DOOR YOU IDIOT, HURRY UP!" Gunnar's father yelled.

"Father stop," Gunnar said.

"Yes Sir, Minister," Lewis said.

Once Gunnar, his father and Draupnir were in the Limo. Dad handed Lewis his card and said, "Call us on Monday, after the Minister leaves town."

"You bet I will, it's good seeing you," Lewis said.

"Yeah, come on Adam let's go," Dad said.

"It's good to see you too, Lewis," I said.

"Goodbye Adam, Good luck tonight," Lewis said as he got into the driver's seat of the Limo.

Dad and I rushed off to the house to go and get my books, luckily, they were still in my bag from yesterday when I brought them home after I visited Gunnar. Then it was off to the Marquette hotel to spend the afternoon with Gunnar and his father. I wasn't looking forward to this happening because of the way that his father treated everybody. I wasn't even sure if I wanted to go to Iceland next summer, if Gunnar had to go back for a little while. Because I didn't want to deal with his father, every day. Gunnar had asked me if he had to go back to Iceland would I come and visit him next summer. I of course told him yes, but that was before I met his father. When we got to the hotel the Limo that Gunnar was riding in, still had not shown up yet.

"Let's go to the bar, I could almost use a drink," Dad said.

"Dad, really?" I asked.

"Yeah," Dad said.

We ordered a couple of Root Beers and waited. After 15 minutes into the Root Beers Gunnar's Limo Showed up. "There is Gunnar's Limo," Dad said.

"I know," I said as I groaned.

"Come on let's get this over with, maybe his father will leave you two alone, since you have some studying to do," Dad said.

"I hope so," I said.

Gunnar walked into the lobby and said, "Hi."

"Hi, I brought my books," I said.

"I see vhat," Gunnar said.

"GUNNAR, LET'S GO," Gunnar's father said.

I felt sad for Gunnar as he was being led through the hotel, it almost felt like he was a slave in chains. I didn't know what to do for him, but I knew I had to do something. When we got onto the elevator there was a housekeeper that got off the elevator that said "Good morning, Minister."

"It's okay you can stay," I said.

"NO, SHE CAN NOT," Gunnar's father said.

Gunnar looked at me. I knew that he was apologizing for the way that his father was behaving. The next thing I knew was that Draupnir was pressing the button for the 20th floor, the top level and then stuck the key card in the slot. Then the elevator started to move towards the 20th floor, stopping at the seventh floor for a second. When the doors opened on the 7th floor Draupnir quickly pressed the doors closed on the panel of the elevator and we quickly got started again. I read on the panel that it was the presidential suite, I could not believe that it was a presidential suite. I almost wondered how much the country of Iceland was shelling out for this trip. When we got up to the top floor, I could not believe it, it was like the Banks house. The best furniture, the best silverware and crystalware. I even supposed one thousand thread Egyptian cotton sheets. There was even an own private butler.

"Minister," the private butler.

"GET MY SON A KEY TO THIS RATCHET HOTEL, GET HIM SETTLED AND ORDER LUNCH FOR US. I WILL TAKE A STEAK, MEDIUM RARE, WITH A BAKED POTATO, GREEN BEANS AND A GLASS OF THE FINEST RED WINE YOU HAVE, " Gunnar's father said and then disappeared into another room.

"Yes sir, Minister,' The private butler said whose name tag said Randy. 'I love my job, I love my job, I love my job," Randy whispered.

"Gunnar your room will be over here," Draupnir said.

"Okay," Gunnar said as he, dad and I followed Draupnir into the room.

Draupnir started to unpack Gunnar's suitcase, "Draupnir, vhat is not necessary I am more vhan capable of fnpacking myself," Gunnar said.

"Of course, sir. Order anything that you want," Draupnir said.

"Um, I will take a cheeseburger with fries and a coke," Dad said.

"Oh, vhat sounds good, I vill vave vhe same," Gunnar said.

"Do you have spaghetti?" I asked.

"Yes, we do," Randy said.

"I will take that," I said.

"Red or Alfredo?" Randy asked.

"Red. Light on the sauce, please with water," I said.

"Of course," Randy said.

"Um I will have the same as the minister, but instead of red wine could I have Dr. Pepper?" Draupnir asked.

"Of course," Randy said and then he left the room.

"Well, I suppose that we better let you boys get started," Dad said.

"Ok, vhanks Coach," Gunnar said.

"Draupnir come on let's go," Dad said.

"Of course, Mr. Bombay," Draupnir said as he left the room, closing the door behind him. Gunnar locked the door and then walked over to me placing a gentle hand on my cheek and then kissed me.

"I have been vaiting all veek to do that," Gunnar said.

"I have missed you," I said.

"Me voo," Gunnar said.

Gunnar wrapped his arms around my body. We stayed there and cuddled for two- or three-minutes peppering each other with kisses, when I said, "I suppose we better get started on homework."

"I have a confession to make to vou, I don't vave any homevork to do," Gunnar said.

"What? You Gave your father a ruse?" I asked.

" Vhat is a ruse," Gunnar said.

"A ruse? You mean you lied to your father?" I asked.

"Veah, I did. I vant to spend time vith vou," Gunnar said.

"Do you have your homework done?" I asked.

"Veah, I am caught up until Monday. I am even going to send vhe homework with vou, Monday. Vo give vo my teachers, for them vo grade. Vell expect for vour mother. I am just going to hand it to her, vhen I see her. Vut, it has all the same information name, subject, and date due on the vight hand side," Gunnar said smiling.

"Gunnar you little stink pot," I said shaking my head.

"Vhats a stink pot?" Gunnar asked.

"Uh it means that you are a little stinker for pulling the wool over your father's eyes," I said.

"Vhat, can I say? I vhe best. I vant to cuddle vith vou all afternoon," Gunnar said as he started to pepper me with kisses.

"Yeah, but what happens if your father comes in here, we need to make it look like we were actually studying," I said.

Gunnar rolled his eyes, before he said, "Fine." We quickly got some homework out and moved the chairs, so it looked like we were actually studying. Then we laid down on the bed together. I haven't felt one thousand count thread sheets in a very long time.

"I have missed this," I said.

"I haven't,' Gunnar said. I looked at Gunnar weird, 'vhat I haven't?"

"What about the musical should you be starting to learn your American accent?" I asked.

"I should, vut I am going to vait until after father is gone. He finds out I am in a musical, he vill die," Gunnar said.

"Oh, I see," I said.

Then we started to pepper each other with kisses stripping different clothing off of our bodies. When I got down to his abs Gunnar said, "Ve careful down vhere."

"Because of the stitches?" I asked.

"Vah, " Gunnar said and then he grunted.

"Pain?" I asked.

"Vah, could vou hand me a pillow?" Gunnar asked.

"Sure,' I said as I handed him a pillow from under the bed covers. Gunnar started to cry, 'what's wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing I thought the pain vould not be as intense," Gunnar said.

"Oh, I think that we better put a hold on anything sexual until after the stitches come out," I said.

"Vah Adam vhat's a good idea, vill vou hold me?" Gunnar asked.

"Of course," I said.

I held Gunnar in that bed, as he held the pillow in his stomach, for a good 15 or 20 minutes, when there was a knock at the door. "Boys, lunch is here," Dad said.

"Come on lets go eat," I said as I released Gunnar from my hold on him and started to put my clothes back on.

"Vight, I might need help," Gunnar said.

I helped Gunnar get dressed and we went out to the dining room portion of the suite. We were just about to dig in when Draupnir came up to the table and said, "Excuse me sir, it's the President."

"VERY GOOD DRAUPNIR, I WILL TAKE IT IN THE OFFICE," Gunnar's father said.

"What would the President of the United States be calling Gunnar's father about?" Dad asked.

"IT'S THE PRESIDENT OF ÍSLAND YOU IDIOT!" Gunnar's father said and then he grabbed his lunch and followed Draupnir back into his office making sure to slam the door.

"Oh, how I vish vou could adopt me," Gunnar said.

"What are you talking about Gunnar?" I said.

"I vish I vas a Bombay, I von't like my father," Gunnar said.

"Gunnar just because you don't like your father. Doesn't give you purpose to be put up for adoption. Besides Michele will never go for it," Dad said.

"And what happens to us?" I said.

"Vhat do vou mean, Adam?" Gunnar said.

"Well, I mean that if mom and dad adopted you. I don't think that we could get married, right?" I asked.

"Like you can get married now," Dad said.

"Yeah, if the world was perfect," I said.

"Adam, if the government allows you to marry another man, which by the way is pretty farfetched. Then no you would not be allowed to get married if you both had the same last name because you would already be related to each other," Dad said.

'Vhat sucks," Gunnar said.

"Tell me about it," I said.

"Look Gunnar you are like almost 2 months from turning 18, I think that you can survive 2 more months of being under your father's ruling thumb, besides in 48 hours he is going to be gone anyway," Dad said.

"Veah, I guess," Gunnar said melancholy.

Once lunch was over Dad said, "Adam, I want you to get some rest before tonight's game."

"Yes, Dad I know," I said.

"I need to vest too, I am vired," Gunnar said.

"Ok boys have a good nap," Dad said as I closed the door to Gunnar's room.

Gordon's POV

I sat down on the couch and watched the Minnesota versus Indiana football game after the boys went to bed. I wasn't too much into football, but I thought that I should at least support my Alma mater that was currently down 17 to 10. There wasn't any hockey on yet, since it was in the middle of football season.

"What are you watching?" Draupnir asked.

"Oh, Hey Draupnir. Football, you want to watch?" I asked.

"Yeah, I guess, I have always been curious about American Football," Draupnir said.

"Well sit down and I will explain the game to you," I said.

I explained what was happening to Draupnir as the game wore on. After the game was over Draupnir said, "That was a good game."

"Yeah, we won," I said.

"We?" Draupnir asked.

"I mean Minnesota won, I went to the U for both College and Law School," I said.

"Oh, so you spent many days watching Football?" Draupnir asked.

"Hmm no not really. We went to a bowl game in 85 and 86, but the rest of the years I was there we were not very good," I said.

"I suppose you were more interested in Hockey those days?" Draupnir asked.

"No, I wasn't either. I was a work alcoholic and chased girls in those days, but times have changed. The Ducks changed me," I said.

"Oh, I see," Draupnir asked.

"I have to ask you something," I said.

"Shoot," Draupnir asked.

"Has your boss always been like this?" I asked.

"Like what," Draupnir asked.

"Like treating people like dirt, because frankly I am not too pleased with his behavior," I said.

"Yes, for as long as I have known him. But he is completely different when he is around his colleagues and of course the President," Draupnir said.

"Hmm, why don't you go for a different job? Surely working for him can't be that pleasant," I said.

"No, it's not pleasant, but I have a long list of reasons for staying," Draupnir said.

"I see," I said as we started to watch the next football game Nebraska versus Kansas State Wildcats.

At about halftime of the game, Gunnar's father came out of his office and said, "WHERE ARE THE BOYS?"

"Uh they are sleeping; they needed a nap. In fact, Adam and I have to get going here in a few minutes," I said.

"DRAUPNIR, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?" Gunnar's father yelled.

"Watching football sir, you should see this Red team kick the pants out of the white team," Draupnir said.

"YOU ARE ON REPORT WHEN WE GET BACK TO ÍSLAND WE DON'T WATCH FOOTBALL, ESPECIALLY AMERICAN FOOTBALL," Gunnar's father yelled.

I snorted, because I knew that over the last 2 years, Gunnar was adopting the American lifestyle. "And with that Adam and I should be going, excuse me," I said as I opened the door to Gunnar's room and quickly closed the door behind me.

"Adam, Adam," I said.

"What?" Adam asked.

"Come on son, it's time to get up, we need to get going," I said.

Adam exhaled before he said, "Do I have to, I'm comfortable?"

"Yes, you do, game tonight, remember?" I asked.

"Right," Adam said.

"No," Gunnar said.

"I promise you guys will have plenty of time for cuddling later," I said.

"Okay give us a few minutes," Adam said.
