Entry 7 :
It would be easy to write down his name.
So fucking simple.
I can see myself standing before his gravestone in a yellow dress smiling . Breathing in deeply the scent of offered bouquets that had been crushed underneath my heels .
It would not be worth trying to hide my lack of grief .
The thought of his corpse being nibbled upon worms and beetles is just too appealing .
It is almost too simple.
It was too simple.
Hiding behind the side of the dumpster that was out of view of passerby's I wrote down my brother's name. Every letter is correctly written besides the last one .
What happens when you purposely misspell a name in the Death Note?
I wait and wait .
Nothing happened .
Which will probably be unsurprising to you dear diary .
Writing his name would be simple .
I do not want his death to be simple.
I tucked the notebook into the bag before pulling the straps over my shoulder. My stomach grumbled as the crowds traversing the sidewalks devoured me again .
After a few minutes , I found a convenience store right off the Main Street. A quick search of Light's bag yielded no discoveries of money of any sort . My stomach twisted about with an annoying growl that left me sighing at this current predicament .
Light would definitely kill me if I stole anything , especially when I had the deathnote on me . The corners of my mouth curled up at that mental image .
The opening of the door left the store to be filled with the sound of chiming bells . An old man glanced up from his newspaper and offered me a friendly nod . I waved at him like some bashful dork .
A quick circle around the aisles revealed that the store was completely without traffic save for me . I began humming to myself while pulling water from one of the many glass refrigerators.
Can a big group of drunks just come into the store already ? Stumble blindly into the counter and crack their head open on the register.
" Where's your shoes ," The old man inquired while I snatched up the last Hershey chocolate bar .
" At my ex's house ," I said , going up to the front counter instead of making a break for the door.
I hopped onto the counter with a deep sigh .
" My mother dearest was murdered ," I began while ripping the candie wrapper off with my teeth ," But I am more concerned about finding a way to ruin my brother's life ."
The chocolate tasted like coal upon my taste buds. I had the sense to spit the brown gooey lump into the crumpled up wrapper.
The old man laughed at my twisted up expression that I sneered over at him with . My mind finds it appropriate to place blame on him for my lack of care towards reading the descriptions for things .
Yep , even as I write this the desire to blame him for the failure of telling the difference between dark and plain chocolate has not left me .
I tossed the candy bar in the trash can on the cashier side of the front counter .
The bottled water was soon crackling in my hand as I chugged the water from it . It was empty then completely crushed in seconds.
I tossed my trash into that same overflowing can .
" Pick out a pair of flip flops from the second aisle , there on the house ," The old man suddenly muttered, shifting upwards in his wheelchair in order to toss his paper on the register.
The counter place was currently being a landing pad for my lazy ass .
" Is the chocolate and water on the house too ," I asked with a voice that mocked a bratty child that just got caught with their hand in the cookie jar .
" When is it ever not on the house , Akira ," The old man barked at my retreating back .
I shot him a smile on my shoulder before deciding upon a pair of yellow flip flops. Thankfully they were only slightly bigger than my feet . Maybe just maybe I could walk around in them without falling face first into the concrete.
" Your brother came in asking about you," The old man said while I made my way towards the door. My fingertips had just managed to brush against the door handle. The cold metal threatening to soon be biting away the warmth settled within my palms .
" Told me to tell you that your little sister survived ," The old man began before breathing deeply through his nose ," Got anything to say to him ?"
Drilling my fingers against the handle a little smirk grew across my lips . It was not a show of happiness for the survival of mother's newest brat . Oh no it was a twisted showcase of bitterness at the word sister .
I held up my middle finger and the old man chuckled at that little show . My smirk wobbled a little bit at the thought of just spitting out the truth .
Then I twirled about with tears rolling down my cheeks .
Leaning over the countertop my hands waved the old man closer towards me . He leaned closer with pressed together lips that pointed silently towards his concern .
" What do you call the child born to your brother and mother?"
The old man's eyes went wide and he rolled back from the counter. I threw my head back laughing as if my words had been part of a grand comedy.
Waving goodbye , I exited the little store with a chiming bell struggling to drown out the laughter bursting forth from my lungs .
Light was leaning against a light pole lying in wait for me .
" Oh no you found me ," I said , voice perfectly content to mock the growing rage within Light that seemed to somehow turn his brown irises into a deep red pigment .
Sweat soaked through the shirt fabric that covered his armpits . His face was slightly covered in blush that was borne from a long chase . Anger led to his fists trembling at his sides. Shoulders were ridden.with tension They were probably expecting for me to run off again . They were ready for the hunt to begin again .
Licking my lips, I dared to take a few steps towards Light.
" I have a confession to make . Remember how we used to play hide and seek as children well…"
My fingers slowly unzipped the book bag just to taunt the boy a little longer .
" To be honest, after a while of laughing at your failed attempts to find me , I would let you win …"
I took hold of the black notebook and dangled it in front of his face between two fingers. He lunged to grab it but my hand wrapped his throat and shoved him against the light pole.
" You still suck at hide and seek ," I said, while he ripped my hand away from his throat and tore the book away from me .
He sucked in a big breath to make up for his stolen one .
Our eyes were silently trying to claw each other's flesh off with heated glares . My muscles began to ache after a while of twisting about in a show of rage .
" Unfortunately, I do not remember killing the bitch ," I said, sighing deeply before crossing my arms.
" Figures ," Light spit out while rolling his eyes .
That was an odd expression to see upon the boy's face . He was such a perfect control freak that it sent the hairs on the back of my neck standing up . But nobody else seemed to realize that a monster lived inside the boyish meat suit that was named Light Yagami .
Oh well , that just makes life more interesting .
" I purposely did not spell my brother's name right ," I said .
A little quiver nestled its way into my voice . A tear dipped down from my chin .
" It was all too simple , Light ."
I looked down at my palms wishing that they held a blade dripping in blood. Dreaming of the grimy sensation of guts being lodged underneath my nails . Imagining his screams replacing the sound of cars racing past us .
Still that mental dream had an aspect missing from it .
" You may be a God of Justice b-."
Light cuts me off with a starting chuckle and warm fingers interlocking with my own . I glance towards the sidewalk with all the intention of putting my focus upon his shoes … my aching feet .
" You are a god of vengeance ," Light said cupping the side of my face with a thumb gently rubbing across soft flesh .
Our eyes meet in a rare moment of understanding. The creature of rage was curling up to sleep within Light's gaze . My ears almost could hear the subtle purr of the snoring creature. I wonder what Light discovered living within my eyes.
Eyes are the gateway to the soul . A key fragment to the road map that makes up one's self .
" We can not be sloppy and needlessly reckless. Give me a little time and we will destroy the pathetic creature with our own hands," Light whispered into my ear before leaning down to kiss my smirking lips .
To be honest those words were the sweetest honey to me .
But it was still a manipulation tactic .
Light was trying to tame the wild card within me with sweet promises . He knew my reckless nature ruled over my common sense with an iron hold. That impulsive nature made it difficult to get away with murder . We were killers of passion but he was a clear sky to my hurricane filled one . It would probably make it easier if we were more alike but without my difficult nature we never would have met .
Perhaps we would have met in the later years of our schooling. Been each other's rivals in terms of intelligence or forced collaborators on school assignments . But we still would have never met each other … not truly.
We would have only known each other's false masks that we had lacked as children.
" This is where you tried to steal that chocolate bar isn't it ," Light muttered in the aftermath of our kiss . His thumb was still caressing the side of my face .I let an easy laugh slide from my lips .
" Yep… but it was not much of a loss though … it was dark chocolate an- ."
Light was quick to cut me off .
" You absolutely despise dark chocolate ."
I rolled my eyes and stuck my tongue out at that annoying dork .
