In a land far, far away lies the kingdom of Fiore, a small, peaceful nation of 17 million, and a place filled with Magic found in every home, bought and sold in every marketplace. For most, Magic is merely a tool, a mundane part of everyday life. For some, however, Magic is an art, and they've devoted their lives to its practice. These are the wizards. Banded together into magical guilds, they ply their skills in search of fame and fortune. Many such guilds dot the landscape of Fiore. But there is a certain guild in a certain town that soars high above the rest, one from which countless legends have been born. A guild that will no doubt continue to create legends well into the future. Its name...is Fairy Tail.
PREVIOUSLY, on Fairy Adventure: Ena might have all the questions in the world for these two ladies who claim to be her swords, but there's no time when the enemy is afoot. The saying goes "if you can't take the heat, then stay out of the kitchen" and it looks like Silver really needs to get out. Lucky for him, he's got the power of god on his side—or well, God Slayers and plot armor. Rai, Kalua, Holland, and Kapa come to save our heroes, but Aloha's ability is all they need to save Akamu from certain death. Even with Kohala behind them, our heroes and their new friends and, well, not-so-much friends aren't out of the woods yet. But right now? I think it's time for some much need rest.
'The next time we kiss, I want you to keep your promise… That you'll remember it.'
It's certainly been a long day for everyone and kissing might be the furthest thing from their mind. But I wonder… What was Cane calling about, anyway?
Chibi-Nashi appears with a grin and a wave. "Hi, everyone! Ready for more Fairy Adventure? To keep your eyes safe, make sure you read with at least one light on in a low setting! And here is the updated time zone table!"

Chibi-Nashi winks with a thumbs up. "Enjoy the episode!"
Mornings at Akane Beach were more for the locals than for the tourists. Dawn had not risen and, yes, it was spring break, but that did not mean it was time for fun and games. The casino and amusement park would not be open for hours. The bars, clubs, and pubs on the boardwalk had shut down around three to four in the morning and would not reopen until later in the day. Not even the sun could be bothered to get up for his dayshift. That did not mean people were not out.
TATATATATA!
Like other early morning runners, Nora had popped in his EarPods, put on his running shoes, had decided to take one of the private paths through the forest. Nature still had some time until it needed to awake, but that was fine with him.

Grayed yellows glinted. Ena…
Vivid scarlet hair. Warm deep browns.
The rock music Nora jogged to faded out in exchange for his thoughts. The path he jogged down took a subtle curve.
A memory collage of Ena sparked in his mind, from her amused face to her murderous one. There's no doubt she's an extremely capable young woman. I could tell how much she admired her mother. I can't understand her relationship with Mystogan. From how Octavius painted it, it sounds like Ena offended her brother since her birth. Then why keep needless tabs on her if he refuses to treat her at least with decent courtesy?
Grayed yellows narrowed. She would kill me to get involved with her life like this. But I keep getting that feeling this is all connected. Her, her brother, the reason the Holy Eye wants use of her, her swords, her companion to the Yule Cotillion, and—his chin lowered—her father.
• — • — • — •
"I see your relationship with Lady Ena is heading in a friendly direction."
Late-night rendezvouses with his father were nothing new to Nora. The fireplace had been lit with the starry backdrop staining the glass. He had come down in his pajamas with his father in his robe with his trusty cane to the side of her chair.
Dardanius handed his son a rock glass with whiskey. "Don't tell your mother."
"Never." Nora clinked glasses with his father and they both took a sip. "But…yes." He smiled down at his drink. "She's…bold and intelligent. I have absolute faith in our business partnership as well as other things after all that's happened."
"Oh-ho." Dardanius had that Cheshire grin as he mercilessly teased his son, "Should I expect to see you in those gossip sites tomorrow with the young lady? You did say you'd only be out with her for lunch, but then you came home late at night. You inherited the Gosling charm!"
Nora looked away and coughed into a fist, even if his neck flushed. "Please don't say that, Dad."
"But it's true! Look at me. I was the pinnacle of charm," Dardanius boasted. "If it wasn't for my talent and charm, I wouldn't have had a brilliant woman like Moira fall for me!"
Nora sweatdropped. 'From how Richard tells it, you wore her down.'
Dardanius honed himself to chuckles as he raised his glass. "As you already know, I approve of your relationship with her, and it's nothing political." Yellows glinted in the fire's light. "She is a very special young lady. Had she not handled Irina and the Holy Eye with grace and tact, I would be more inclined for you to keep your admiration of her in the shadows. But she exceeds my expectations at every turn." He shook his head. "I'm just sorry she had to handle Irina's foolishness."
"You and me both," Nora agreed in a mutter. "As well as Atticus."
Dardanius gave probable pause. "Atticus…" He looked at the fire. "I understand you told me Atticus had asked questions about Ena's young friend who accompanies her to the Yule Cotillion. Do you still stand by those claims?"
Nora nodded. "Yes."
Dardanius did not look displeased or annoyed. Instead, the fire highlighted the edge on his face. "I know you and Atticus have a strange relationship. But I also know you have never made accusations towards him. You could have. I know how that boy is. He was so sweet while Moira was alive." Yellows darkened. "But things change when someone you love dies."
He turned to face Nora. "I will back your use of one of the family Shades and permit the contract and binding. But you must be aware that Atticus has the Green Shade to his name and has had that Shade since he came of age." He made sure Nora looked into his eyes. "Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Nora nodded. "Yes, Father." Grayed yellows slid to the fire. 'That Atticus is possibly using his Shade to amass information on Ena and myself. And if that's the case, then he might already know the identity of the young woman Ena brought with her.' Gritted teeth. 'Dammit. Of course he's one step ahead as always. It means he was only toying with Ena. He doesn't need her cooperation, but he wants her on her guard around this issue. But why?'
Dardanius sat back in his chair, observing Nora. "The reason you were not told—"
"Was because I haven't had my formal ceremony to recognize I'm also in line for your marquis title," Nora listed. "I understand. I'm not angry about that, it's just…" He looked away, jaw clenched. "I'm…concerned where Atticus' interests are. He's unreadable, but he has charmed society." He clutched his glass. 'And if he knows the identity of the young woman, I'm afraid for her because I don't know what he'll do with her.'
"I can't speak for Atticus, but he has a high opinion of you. I'm not saying that for you to admire him." Dardanius was clear on that. "I'm well-aware how society looks at him. I get compliments about him and he receives plenty of marriage proposals. But you're right." He looked at his drink. "He's hard to read, to understand. When he was a boy—when Moira was alive—I knew about his motives. But after her death…"
Nora tilted his head. "That's why you want me to have my formal ceremony at seventeen."
"So you figured it out." Dardanius chuckled. "You were always quick-witted." His smile faded for a serious frown. "Yes. That's why." Yellows caught grayed yellows. "When you turn seventeen, I plan to make you formally eligible for my title."
Nora tensed. 'I had a feeling, but still…' "Does Atticus know?"
"Why do you think he encouraged me to bring you with me to Round Tables?"
Nora withheld his irritation. 'He doesn't make any sense of me. Why is he trying to make me become the next marquis? Is he doing it to win public opinion of him for treating me well? What does he want? I can't understand his motives at all.' He sighed out his frustrations the best he could. "I…understand." Another gulp of his drink. "I plan to use the family Shade to help Ena in some way."
"Naturally," Dardanius figured. "Once you and your Shade are bound together, you may use your Shade for whatever matters. You don't have to disclose the Shade's actions to me. But if you want my opinion, I'll give it to you. But I ask you to be careful around that young lady. You must be discrete. You know by now that she has a very promising future and parentage. And if you investigate into her, should you find something"—the flames flickered in yellows—"how you proceed afterward should coincide with her best interests."
'That confirms it.' Nora looked at his father over the rim of his glass. 'I thought it was suspicious how receptive he was to Ena. It's not out-of-character. But he went above and beyond his hosting duties to have a private match and tea with her. And all the hints about him knowing her father too. He knows something.' It clicked for him as he set down his drink.
Dardanius lifted his chin a notch. "Yes? Have something to say?"
"I…" Nora grappled with his words as he stared his father down. 'No. I can't be this impatient. This is another test. If I lash out and demand he tell me what he knows, I can already tell he'll limit his support. I have to be cautious about asking the right questions with him. One wrong question could set me back.'
"I…have one question."
"Oh?" Dardanius nodded for him to go on. "And what is that?" He sipped his drink—
"Why was it important to you that Ena play a game of chess with you?"
Dardanius paused.
Then he smiled. "For the same reason it was necessary for her to receive that sword. Because it's her right."
"Her right?"
"Yes. Or, well…" Mischief painted on Dardanius' features. "That's what an old friend told me…and I'm inclined to believe him when it comes to her."
"Why?"
"Well…" Dardanius' smile quirked. "They do have that same scarlet hair after all."
• — • — • — •
Nora burst into a one-hundred-meter sprint down the trail before easing up into a simple jog. Bits of sweat clung to his skin and it was times like these he was grateful he could throw his hair into a tight man-bun for running.
A dash of orange flaked his face.
Nora slowed in his jog to take note of the dawn horizon. The sun had made the climb to show his face and splashed a lighter blue overtop the night sky to wash it away. The sleepy oranges painted against the sea.
A man with scarlet hair… At first, my mind had gone to Mystogan, but I had shot down the theory due to his lack of care for Ena. Even learning he kept tabs on her doesn't change my opinion. Mystogan would have no reason to be acquaintances with my father. In fact, since his father Jellal had a friendship with my father, Mystogan would probably avoid Father to distance himself from Jellal's image.
He untucked his water bottle strapped to his hip and took down a few mouthfuls. Could Ena have a second brother? Could her sister or mother be masquerading as a man? My next questions, but none of them seemed plausible. Aine Fernandes is too young to have known of Soledia. Dame Erza wouldn't foster that sort of relationship with my father. At least, that's not the kind of person she is. It's clear she openly cares for Ena. Perhaps she has her secrets, yes. But my father wouldn't have emphasized "him" if it was the Dame. No, he wanted me to know his friend is a man.
He gripped his water bottle. I immediately ruled a second brother out. Yes, Dame Erza could have a secret child, though maybe not in public records. Maybe given up for adoption. But I looked into articles and pictures of her. At no point did any media about her show a secret pregnant, either by pictures or less public appearances. Illusion Magic could always be a culprit, but my gut says she wouldn't do that.
Grayed yellows glinted. So then, who is my father's old friend? A man with scarlet hair… What's his interest in Ena? Is he a family member? But even Ena had told me she has no other blood relatives outside of immediate family. So then who?
He capped his water bottle with a sigh. Digging into this friend is another test. It's logical I would do so. However…
"And if you investigate into her, should you find something,"—the flames flickered in yellows—"how you proceed afterwards should coincide with her best interests."
Nora clenched his hand. In the end, this is another test to see where I'll succeed and where I'll falter. He's not doing this to be cruel. He wants to know where my priorities lie. Will I chase after a person close to my father? Or will I use my resources to my advantage? A smirk. It's like a game of chess. And he's the one who taught me chess. But this isn't just a game. If I lose…
Darkness touched his face. Then I have a feeling he'll make my personal goal to become Champion of the Church a lot harder. And I can't allow that.
He reattached his water bottle with his eyes flicking around. With no one around, he murmured, "Blue Shade."
FWOOSH!
A cloaked figure kneeled behind Nora with a fist of their heart and the pendant of the Gosling family tying their cloak together. "You have summoned me, Master." They tilted their head up, but nothing could be seen outside shadows and the glow of blue from their eyes.

« This is a Shade. As Jaxton explained, an Aura is a listless soul, but a Shade is a soulless Spirit of a human being. Shades are capable of powers and have a sense of agency, which means they can be bound and contracted instead of overtaken and absorbed. They are neither benevolent nor malevolent. Most Shades move on to the Ghost Realm, but long ago, Shades like this one work under nobles as their shadow guards or assistants in a secret unit called the Order of the Night Hellebore. Only those who will become or are the head of the household receive a Shade. »
• — • — • — • — • — • — • — • — •
Nora crossed his arms as he looked out on the horizon. "I need you to find information for me. Are you able to bypass multiple magical enchantments?"
Blue Shade lowered their head. "Yes. I am able."
⌜ORDER OF THE NIGHT HELLEBORE

Occupation: Shade of the Gosling Family

Special Note: Blue Shade does not have a name and only Nora has seen their true face! ⌟
"Good." Nora pivoted for his grayed yellows to pin on his Shade. "I want you to find information on Mystogan Fernandes. I don't need a background check of him or anything like that. What I want to know is the motive behind his rejection of Ena Fernandes. If you need assistance, I trust you'll use the Underground."
The Underground—an invisible information guild, so to speak. His arms tightened. Thanks to Tristan's personality, he managed to become one of them. He's my connection. Shades appearing in the Underground is apparently normal. But even Tristan doesn't know who runs the Underground. All he knows is they're called The Conspirator, a person who always has questions and needs answers.
Blue Shade nodded. "Understood." And they vanished without a trace.
"Ha…" Nora turned back to the horizon. "I must be going mad, using my Shade for this."
Grayed yellows softened. She'll be understandably angry with me for this. But I understand Father's words. Whatever I found out isn't something I should easily pass to her. I have to be objective and cautious. I have no intention of hurting her. But I also won't allow someone else to hurt her further.
Raging blues.
His lips twitched into a mirthless smile. And I have a feeling…Silver will also do what he can to make sure she isn't hurt. But I wonder, Silver, if you've realized it yet.
He turned his back on the horizon and kept jogging. That giving her the promise of staying… It will do nothing but hurt her in the end.

The call came from her personal Compact.
She paused in the middle of her work to attend to and answered with a calm, "Good morning."
"Did you know?"
She crossed her legs, unperturbed. "Did I know what exactly?"
Five beats.
"Did Dad know what my swords are?"
Kobichas glinted. So. It finally happened.
Erza leaned back in her study chair. Even though she had brought work home with her, having a day in her robe and pajamas was something she needed. Her tea had a few good swallows left until she need to pour in more, but work seemed steady today.

"Mother."
Erza sighed, briefly closing her eyes. "Ena, I understand you have question, but please don't you that tone of voice with me."
Two beats.
"I'm sorry." Ena sounded half-hearted in her sincerity. "I'm just…" A harsh breath. "I don't understand any of this, Mom. You don't even know what we had to go through—! Silver… L… They could've died—I could've died—"
"Wait." Erza sharpened. "What do you mean? What happened? Do you need me to—?"
"Nothing," Ena was quick to soothe. "Nothing happened. I-It was… It was just a figure of speech. I meant to say we had some trouble that made us feel exhausted is all. Please don't worry."
Erza closed her eyes. But when you say that, that's when I worry the most. Why won't you tell me?
She murmured, "Ena… I understand you don't want me to be concerned about you, but it doesn't matter how strong you've gotten. You're still my little girl. I'm going to worry about you always. Now, please tell me what happened."
Six beats.
Ena's broken voice cracked through the call. "Why didn't you tell me what could've happened?"
Hearing that tone was a chink in Erza's armor. "Ena…" She gathered herself in a breath. "For you to have the power to bring them into their human forms… There was always a possibility, but…" She sighed. "I think we need to talk about this when you come home."
"So you have time to create excuses?"
"Ena."
"I'm…" A loud sigh. "I apologize, Mother. I'm just…" Another breath. "I shouldn't have called you. I'm sorry."
"No, Ena, it's fine," Erza soothed. "I want you to call me for things like this."
"Even when I'm accusing you?"
Erza simpered over Ena's scathing tone. "Yes. Even then." She could not keep the sadness from her eyes. "I want you to challenge me and question me. I want you to come to me when you're concerned about something. I've always wanted that."
A hesitant beat and Ena quietly countered, "But your work is important. I shouldn't bother you with my incompetence."
Erza clenched a hand. Mystogan… This sounds exactly like something you would've told her. I wonder—she gritted her teeth—how long will Ena have to suffer for how callously you've treated her?
Keeping her frustration towards her son out of her tone, Erza placated, "Nothing is more important than family, my little fairy. You are what matters most. Your worries, your questions—even if you just want to talk—I want to hear all of that from you. And I hope, one day, you'll understand that."
Browns hung low. What will it take for me to cross that bridge to her? What will it take for her to see she isn't a burden? How…? Her lips twitched downwards. How could I let this happen to her?
"I… I understand, Mother."
Erza closed her eyes. I know it shouldn't hurt. She normally tries to keep her distance even after I try to tell her it's fine. I'll continue to pay for Mystogan's mistakes. She opened her mouth—
"Can…? Can we…talk then? When I'm home?"
Browns flew open, wide.
Ena hurried to say, "I understand if you're busy. I don't mean to make a dent in your schedule. I-I. I'm sorry. I'm…" A long pause. "I'm tired, Mom."
"Yes." Erza gripped her Compact. "I know you're tired. We can talk when you're home, Ena. Anytime."
"Oh… Okay then." Ena cleared her throat. "I should go. I'm sorry for calling out of the blue."
Erza smiled. "It's no trouble, Ena. You can call me whenever you'd like." A beat. "You know I love you."
A beat from Ena. "I love you too." She hurriedly added, "Have a good day, Mother." And she ended the call.
Erza was slow to set down her Compact, and she reflected on the call. She called me first… She wants to talk. Browns sparkled, cloudy. I feel so happy and relieved. Like it isn't too late. Jellal… We might not lose her.
Getting up from her desk, she walked through her study. While Ena's study had fashion, like mother like daughter in the number of books, pictures, and accomplishments on every shelf and cabinet. Erza opened one cabinet to take out a treasured photo, a precious memory. She and Jellal had gone to the beach for pregnancy photos. She stood in a flowing white dress with her baby bump while Jellal kneeled like a knight as he pressed his forehead to her stomach and held her hand.
She's growing up so fast, Jellal. You should see her. She thumbed the picture. She'll have so many questions. I wish you were here to answer them. But I know you will be one day.
She set the photo back down. And I know that because, well… She looked down at her ring. You're still watching out for her in your own way.

BEEP!
Ena put down her Compact with a ragged breath. What am I doing?
She sat back on the couch in the communal room. The curtains rebuffed the early morning light, and the entire room looked clean enough.

Ena glanced at her dual swords to see their gemstones glinting with life. I just don't understand. How did my power manipulate for them to come to life? I could tell they were Enchanted, but… And that light—that new armor—what was all of that? That light felt so…familiar, but I can't put my finger on it.
She rubbed her tables. "Ha… I feel like I'm losing my mind."
Or perhaps… Deep browns darkened. I'm losing my life instead. Her hands came down with her chin between two curled fingers. Yesterday was an extreme scenario. And the truth of that matter is, I could have died. Had Silver stayed with that monster longer, he would not have made it. And L… Seeing her so pale and crumbled like that… I'm sure she could have died too.
She blinked when she noticed her hand trembling. What's this? Why am I shaking? She curled her hand into a fist. I understand my life could be forfeited. I have accepted that. But…
She pressed her hand closed to her heart with her eyes glimmering. L and Silver cannot be allowed to forfeit their lives. They are too precious to me. I can't allow something like yesterday to happen again. God Slayers, shadow monsters, Demons… They can hurt me; however—cold fury raged in her eyes—I will not let them hurt two people I care for. Yesterday was unacceptable.
My Lady?
Ena peered at both her swords when she heard Lunagr'an's hesitant call for her. Speak your mind. She sat back and crossed her arms. You think yesterday was acceptable?
No, My Lady, Lunagr'an disagreed. We will serve however you see fit in making sure yesterday's actions do not repeat themselves. His Highness may be your shield, but we are your loyal swords.
Ena smiled. Very well then. I will entrust their protection to you as well.
Her eyes sharpened as she looked at her pleased blades and thought to herself, How peculiar. Yesterday, I could've written a list of demands for them. Now… I can't find it in my heart to be mad. Annoyed I didn't foresee this, but I'm not as upset.
She sighed. Perhaps I'm getting soft or I really am tired. But I can't deny that it feels nice knowing you have people to depend on in battle. Those would be my swords…
Sparkling blues.
Browns drifted to the door. And my shield.
"Next time, I want you to remember our kiss." Determined blues like the ocean. "I want that as my reward, Mistress. I mean it. So promise me you'll give me my reward."
Fingers danced along her lips. A kiss, he says? How foolish. I'm sure he's forgotten. He was tired and hallucinating. That is the only logical explanation. So why…? Her hand clenched as red spread about her cheeks and ears. Why do I feel strange remembering such foolish words?
Her eyes went half-lidded and thoughtful. He shouldn't be saying such things to me, exhausted or not. I'll need to be firm with him about this. That's the only way he'll understand me. He can't do what he pleases when he has someone he cares about. It's inappropriate. And besides, come summer and I'll be…on Nora's arm.
The thought made her heart ache. It's better this way. He'll understand. I'm sure he's simply confused. We spend a lot of time together. It's natural he's grown comfortable. But I need to change that or…
She touched her cheek and could feel how hot it was. Or else…I'll keep feeling something strange…and very dangerous.
She got up from the couch to head back to her and Luna's room. Seeing the bed gave her amused pause. Luna and Silver were tangled in limbs and sheets with Icarus snoring like the Devil. She hovered near the bed with a small smile. Those two… They really are cute. She tipped her head as she examined them. I think once Luke made a quip about them becoming a couple.
She sweatdropped remembering how sweaty Luke got dealing with a fiery Igneel and a pissed-off Gale. He never made a comment about them after that. She laughed into her fist. Though Luke can be a darling too. He's very charming. But if I said that out loud…
"You like Luke?"
Ena tried not to think of a devastated Luna and a sad-puppy Silver, both trying to suck up their sniffling. I don't think I could survive their apparent betrayal.
"Mistress?"
Ena blinked when she saw Silver stirring. "Oh. You're awake." She chuckled when Silver snuggled Luna. "You're going to wake her like that."
"No, I won't," Silver mumbled. "She would sleep through a bomb."
"Yes, she would." Ena internally sweatdropped remembering how peaceful Luna could sleep when Igneel made quite the (literal) explosion in their backyard. That's what concerns me.
A yank on her wrist shocked her to lose balance. "Oh!" It stung her pride hearing Silver's sleepy laugh when she fell onto the bed and awkwardly ended up on Silver. "You…"
She froze when Silver wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her forehead. Why is he…?
LUB-DUB-LUB-DUB-LUB-DUB!
"Stay with me, Mistress," Silver breathed, tone rough with sleep. "Come cuddle s'more, 'kay?"
Ena stiffened. How can he treat me like this and touch me so casually? I've been letting him get too comfortable. But I won't any longer.
Silver frowned when Ena got up and brushed his hand off. "Mistress—"
"If you'll excuse me, I have some other things I have to do," Ena said, stiff. "Sleep in if you want. It makes no difference to me."
"Miss—"
But Silver lost his chance to argue when Ena marched out of the bedroom. Perplexed, he lowered himself back onto the bed and tucked Luna under his chin. Why did she…? It hit him. Oh. She's trying to run again. A sad little smile. I was wondering when she'd remember my request. I'm sure she's thinking she needs to put distance between us. And she'll probably try to.
That sad smile turned to a fanged smirk. Oh, Mistress. You can be so cruel sometimes. But that's okay. You can try and run. Blues glowed, dangerous and wild, as he kept a snoozing Luna close. I guess I'll have no choice but to chase down my cruel Mistress. His pupils slitted like a predatory serpent. Won't I now?

Nothing like busy streets and palm trees in a Paradise.
Sure, the skyscraping apartment complexes and hotels were luxurious to look at, but it was the stores and entertainment that garnered the most attention. Reputable fashion boutiques, luxury brands, shoe shops, and tech markets had set up shop without giving any lip to the multiple vendors amassing outside their doors. Tourists and natives came from all around in their floral, Caelun print clothing, sunglasses, and an upbeat attitude.
Casual eateries already had lines of hungry customers for the breakfast rush. The farmer's marker had opened for business with vendors shouting out prices as locals scurried to get their groceries before curious tourists got their hands on them. The swap meet already saw enough traction with over 700 vendors committing to one of the stadiums in the hopes they could leave with something they want for a trade of what they no longer needed.

« This is Lili'uokalani Street nicknamed Lily Street located in the capital of Ao's Paradise and all of Caelun—Haleakalā. It's a shopping mecca popular with tourists as it offers a unique international shopping experience and many street fairs. The street stretches 5.5 kilometers and has its own trolley system to help transport those who come to visit.»

DING-DING-DING!
A multi-colored trolley offloaded a group of passengers—
KAN-KAN!
Luna could not believe her luck as she looked out onto the crowded street. She hoped she did not look like a tourist with her sunhat, her beach chiffon sarong, the ruffle bandeau bikini top Ena forced her in, and her mini-PDP, but she was too excited to care. "This place is so alive!"

"Yes, well…" Ena would not be outdone with her large sunglasses on. Her slitted maxi floral skirt flowed in the wind and she crossed her arms beneath her tied-front crop top. "This is supposed to be the place all tourists have to visit. And we did decide on a tourist day." She sighed, adjusting her arms. "I can't understand the appeal."
"Yeah, well, this is all new for me," Luna told her, already taking pictures on her Compact. "I've never gotten the chance to be a tourist in another country."
And visiting other countries hasn't always gone well for me. Remembering the chibi stories of her capture to Alvarez and the harshness of Bellum made her internally become dreary. Yeah. I don't have a lot of luck with international travel, huh?
Ena smiled at Luna, who took her pictures with gusto. But for a moment, she remembered Luna crumbled and pale with little breath to her. I'm going to do everything I can so she can live like this. The scents of ocean and rain warned her—
"Lost in thought, Mistress?"
Ena prided herself on leashing her initial reaction to flush and jump to keep her head cool when Silver's words brushed against her ear. "Yes." A clipped response.
Silver's lips quirked upwards. "And you won't tell me. So cruel of you, Mistress."
"You don't need to know," Ena said flatly, pointedly looking away from him. "Move aside before I do something you'll regret."
Silver's soft chuckle made her tighten her crossed arms, and she shivered a bit when fingers brushed her waist. He consented, amused, "As you wish, Mistress." And his presence vanished.
Ena tried not to glance over, but it was hard not to when Silver padded to Luna. That fool. She gave him a slow perusal as he shocked Luna, lifting her from behind. Caelum was no stranger to partial nudity, and Silver took advantage with his open Caelun shirt and his bucket hat, even if he acted as a bag monkey and carried a PDP of his and her belongings. Though I suppose he's gotten better dressing himself. At least enough he doesn't embarrass me.
It made her snort when Luna straight-up smacked Silver the moment he set her down (I am not that short that you people can just pick me up whenever wherever, you hear me? Yes, yes, Lulu, I hear you, you're not short). As he deserves.
She rolled her shoulder and tried to ignore the tingling on her ear and her waist. He really is getting too comfortable. But if I don't show him indifference, I'm sure he'll lose interest in mocking me. A frown touched her face before she could help it. It's for the best. I can't allow him to get any closer.
Deep browns shimmered. It's for the best. He'll thank me for this later.
SNAP!
Ena blinked her shock when Luna snapped in front of her face. "What?"
"Well, you seemed a little zoned out," Luna told her, perplexed. "I was telling you we should head in, but you were staring at nothing. Everything okay?"
Ena put on her smile. "Yes, everything is fine." She looped arms with Luna. "Where shall we go first? Or would you prefer to shop around?" Her smile turned into an amused grin. "Do you have enough room in your suitcase for more shopping?"
Luna broke into a nervous sweat.
Ena chuckled. She truly is adorable. In her mind, she had the pleasure of seeing a cute golden retriever with a bow on her color and big brown eyes. I just want to pet her head. She patted Luna's hand. "Don't worry. I can—"
"I told her"—Silver fluidly came to Ena's side to escort her, much to her undignified surprise—"I'd handle it, Mistress." Blues swept down to Ena, intense, and he leaned down to bring his lips to her temple. "Is that okay?"
Ena ignored the rush of heat on her ears and cheeks to turn away. "Hmph! It's fine, I guess," she sniffed. She tried to steal back her arm, but Silver would not give up. Irked, she turned back to him and snapped, "Could you—?" Her question died with how close her lips had come towards Silver's.
He breathed, "Could I what, Mistress?"
Luna blinked when Ena suddenly hid on her other side. "Um, E? You okay?"
No, I'm not okay, Ena wanted to tell her with narrowed eyes on a suspiciously innocent Silver beaming at her. He keeps threatening me with close contact. What is he thinking? It struck her as somehow her mind conjured a malicious chibi-Silver with a hidden dagger. Is he trying to take me out after betraying his lady love? Is that why he won't stop getting close? He's waiting for my moment of weakness? A fire lit her eyes. I refuse to accept that!
Luna sweatdropped with a smile as she felt Ena's murderous laser eyes on a flowery-aura Silver. Whatever she's thinking, I'm pretty sure it's pretty far-left.
"Oh, Mistress, don't run away from me. You can be so cruel." Silver extended his hand with a puppy pout and shining blues. "I just wanted to hold your hand, Mistress. I wanted to escort you like I always do. Is that so much to ask for?"
Ena's eye twitched as all she saw was an adorable husky looking at her with those cute eyes. No, not again. Don't make that face. No! She gripped Luna's arm. I must be strong. This is just an assassination technique. He's trying to lure me in so he can make me pay for betraying his lover. She peeked again—
Shiny blues.
Inwardly, Ena gaped with a black aura around her. But… That face…
Luna had a flat face since she saw Silver for what he was—cringeworthy. Ugh. Does he think we'll buy that? But when she looked at a struggling Ena, she gawked. She fell for it!
DING!
A lightbulb came onto Luna. Oh, I see.
"Ena?"
Ena looked at Luna—
—and she cringed back seeing the shining light come off Luna with those big browns. Not her too! She's too bright!
"You'll let Silver escort you like normal, won't you, E?" Luna asked of her, batting her eyelashes. "For me?"
Ena's eyebrow twitched as she endured an overwhelming amount of adorability. I don't know if I'm in Heaven or Hell.

Against Ena's bleak mood, Silver looked like not even rain could get him down as he happily held Ena's hand throughout their walk. "Oh, look, Lulu, we should go over there, don't you think?"
"For sure!" Luna beamed. "What do you think, E?"
"Uh-huh," Ena got out. I've been bewitched. Devils. Devils walk among us. Very adorable Devils.

Gary sniffled and rubbed his nose, a little teary. "I hope I'm not coming down with something—"
"Pissant."
Gary froze when he realized he had sneezed onto Jaxton's arm in the middle of the grocery store. It alarmed him seeing Jaxton's shaking rage and he pleaded while quietly backing away, "W-W-Wait, I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I-I didn't mean to—!"
"You"—the fury in Jaxton's eyes looked like the flames of Hell—"disgusting fucking pissant!"
Ace ignored whatever chaos was going on as Gary ran for his life with a seething Jaxton on his tail. Instead, he pushed the shopping cart and examined a brand of marshmallows. He sweatdropped hearing a loud smack! and Gary's high-pitched whimpers. Well, as long as Jaxton doesn't kill Gary, I'll consider it a win.
He tapped his chin. Maybe I should buy more lube for Justin while we're out. I want to up the intensity tonight for him.
And he pushed the cart, blissfully ignoring Jaxton's highly inappropriate cursing and all the pleading for mercy Gary did. Yeah. I think we'll be great dads.

"Mistress?"
Ena still half-processed how two adorable Devils bewitched and hummed she was listening. "Hmm?"
Two beats.
"Thank you, Mistress."
"Whatever for?"
Three beats.
"For remembering my reward."
Surprised, browns shimmered before dimming. "I suggest you choose a different reward," she advised him.
"Why?"
He needs me to say it, does he? Ena sighed. "Silver, I understand you were tired and had been through a…tremendous ordeal, which clouded your judgment"—she had not realized he pulled her to a stop—"and you mistakenly gave me a request I'm sure you reserved for someone you love—"
"Ena."
It made her flinch when he stripped her of her sunglasses. "What are you—?"
"Look into my eyes."
How could she not? How could she not be ensnared when vibrant blues stared her down?
"I'm not tired now," Silver told her, low and burning. "My judgment isn't clouded. So I want to make it clear to you again." He cupped her chin and lowered his head so their noses brushed. "Next time, we kiss, Mistress… I want you to remember it for me. Okay? That's still the reward that I want from you."
"B-But I…" Ena's bottom lip trembled. He's…so close. Pink flashed across the bridge of her nose and her cheeks. I don't… I… Her hand curled over her heart. Why…is he doing this to me? Why do I feel so…?
LUB-DUB-LUB-DUB-LUB-DUB!
"But…" It surprised Ena further when Silver pulled away with that darn smile of his, and he put back on her shades with care. "If you truly don't want to give me that sort of reward, then okay. I respect that. And I'll find a different reward." He turned away from her. "I promise, Mistress. I won't be upset."
How about me being upset from all your mood swings! Ena wanted to hurl back at him. Pinching the bridge of her nose, she questioned, "Say I entertain this farce of a reward. How do you even know we would share a kiss again?"
"Well…" Silver hit her with a serious look. "I'm counting on you to be extremely reckless again."
"That's not an answer!"
Silver held in his mirth seeing a fuming Ena. She's so cute. Blues softened. Truth is, Mistress, I've dreamed of one-hundred different ways I could kiss you. But I know…that's not something you want to hear. So I'll keep it to myself for now.
Ena huffed when Silver locked his hands behind his head and walked. "You haven't answered me! Don't just walk away!"
Silver stopped. "If you want the truth, then I know there's no guarantee that we'll kill again—or at least, kiss again willingly."
Ena nodded her stern approval, arms crossed. "Exactly. So why waste your reward on needless frivolity like that?"
"Hmm…" Silver pretended to mull it over. "Why, huh? Well, that's because…" He turned around to show him his wide beam. "There's still hope Mistress will pity me a little and give me my first actual kiss, isn't there?"
LUB-DUB!
Silver could not hold back his amazement in Ena's red-flushed face and the glinting surprise and abashment in those deep eyes of hers. The wind carried her scent to his nose. She smells so sweet…and she looks so freaking adorable. He covered his lips with his fingers. I still remember how she tastes too.
Red donned his skin, and he touched his chest. I want to hold on to this feeling forever, of adoring her like this. I…
He could not help it when his ears steamed seeing Ena's bare leg from her skirt slit and focusing on her lips. I just want to worship her for the rest of my life like the simp I am! Forgive me, Mistress, for thinking these thoughts!
He turned away and warned Ena in a mumble, "Mistress, if you don't stop looking so cute, I can't promise I won't try to kiss you."
Ena went rigid with shock and abashment. What did he…?
BASHA-BASHA!
She turned to see—
BASHA-BASHA!
Luna smiled and held up her Compact. "You both look so cute! I can't wait to show—!"
"Delete those at once."
Luna sweated when Ena and her murderous aura loomed over her. "W-W-Well, um…"
I can't tell her these go to a shared photo album with Aunt Juvia and her mom. She'll shove me into Penelope's lap again so I can be her human doll! And being Penelope's doll meant enduring Penelope's thorough touch and outfits that had no business looking so scanty.
It was best to avoid that.
"Wait. This is perfect." Ena pointed an accusatory finger at Silver and declared, "We can use it as evidence he was unfaithful to the girl he loves and blackmail him to leave me alone!"
Luna and Silver tried not to show their dreary moods (and Ena looked all-too-proud of herself). She's such a lost cause.
Silver stepped towards them—
"Don't move!" Ena commanded. "Or else we'll show the girl you love those photos and incriminate you for being disloyal!"
Mistress, you'd be showing the photos to yourself. Silver did not say what, however, and gave her a cute smile. "That's okay! She won't mind!" Because she's you.
"Yes she will!" Ena believed. "You dared ask to kiss another girl! L has evidence—!"
CRUNCH!
Luna had the look of a pitiful angel as she told Ena, "Oops. I deleted my photos. I'm just so clumsy."
"What!" Ena shook Luna with desperation on her face. "Get them back somehow! Do it! This is my only chance to blackmail him so he can leave me be!"
Inwardly, Chibi-Luna looked smugger than a fat cat. She doesn't need to know all I deleted were old cat memes.
Luna put her hands on Ena's arms. "E?" That bright light shined from her again as she pouted. "You're not mad at me, are you?"
Oh, she's so bright! Ena lamented. Hammering a shaky smile, she haltingly assured, "O-Of course I'm not mad at you, L. I could never be mad at you." Except you deleted the only blackmail I had to keep him away from me.
"Oh, Mistress."
Ena slowly turned her head—
—and she sweated seeing Silver loom over her with that cute smile somehow threatening.
"Please don't act recklessly like that and threaten your pet again, okay?" Silver requested of her. "I can only take so much of your cruelty in a day." Blues glinted in promise. "You wouldn't want your pet to be sad about how quickly you'd abandon him, would you?"
You looked more pissed off than sad! Ena wanted to cry.
Silver broke his frustration. I shouldn't be too hard on her. He smiled for real with his flowery aura of innocence emerging. "Now let's go shopping, Mistress!"
Ena trembled behind Luna. It's scary how he can switch moods so quickly. But she had no choice in the matter when Silver caught her hand and tugged her into him. Her cheek fell against his chest and hid her blush.
"And please don't leave my side again, Mistress," Silver told her, thumbing her other cheek. "Pity me for being so cruel to me and stay by my side." You know… I always heard from Uncle Gajeel Dragons like their treasure close. And right now… He blinked when Ena shifted.
"W-Well…" An irritated pout work her lips as her stare flicked to his and looked away, ears red. "You are to stay by my side too. Just so I can monitor your actions and make sure you're loyal to your lady love. Nothing more, okay?"
Blues sparkled. My… She's so ridiculously adorable. I wish I could kiss her so badly. But…
Ena froze when Silver kissed her cheek. "Wh-What—?"
"I'm sorry, Mistress. You were just too cute for me to resist." He pulled back with his tender eyes and smile. "Forgive me this once for that, okay?"
Ena's hands tightened on his chest. "It sounds like to me you're asking me to take responsibility for my facial expressions making you act rashly affectionate."
Silver felt his hope soar. Does this mean…?
"I knew it." Ena looked up with a steely glint. "You were planning to act like a cad and when your lady love accuses you, you'll blame it on my good looks."
Silver smiled, even if Chibi-Silver looked like he was having an existential crisis. I'm doomed. It startled him when a finger was before him.
"I'm aware I'm beautiful, but that doesn't give you the right to act irrationally around me," Ena scolded him. She flicked her hair. "But if you must be stunned by my beauty to the point where you cannot control yourself, I suppose it can't be helped. After all, I am a darling. It wouldn't surprise me my own pet gets too excited being around such a gorgeous woman like me."
Silver held a dark aura over Ena's smug one. I'm giving her too much of a complex at this rate. He sighed. "Yes, Mistress, you're extremely beautiful in every single way."
"Exactly—"
Silver swooped low so their lips had breaths apart. "Then I won't hold back. So take responsibility when your pet can't control himself around his beautiful mistress." He pulled away with all that burning sweetness traded for an innocent beam as he clasped her hand. "Let's go! C'mon, Lulu!"
"'Kay!'"
Ena felt she was in a daze as Siler and Luna merrily bantered over where to go first. What…? What just happened? Silver… She swallowed as her fingers treaded her lips. I… I feel like I lost. But…what did I lose?
Her fingers were stolen from her lips.
Now both Silver and Luna were tugging her along with matching grins. "Let's go!"
Browns sparkled before Ena's lips twitched into a genuine smile. Yes. This is what I wanted—to see the people I care about smile more. And she let them lead the way. "Aye, sir!"
That was how their day being tourists began.
Being a tourist in a foreign country that welcomed tourism was easy enough when tourists had enough time on their hands. But Ao's Paradise and the capital city Haleakalā always had so much to offer that it felt criminal panning out a "tourist day" for one day. But Silver had it all down to a timetable science.
Browsing was on the docket first as they visited local vendors for souvenirs to bring home. Silver and Luna were wowed seeing some of the magical tikkis animated to move, hula, and chant to them. Ena, however, looked aghast when a tourist a few vendors over looked ready to purchase a funky hat to compliment her current ensemble. In her opinion, stopping the sale and guiding her to the right headwear was a kind service.
The angry vendor that lost his sale did not agree.
And led to Luna using her charm to keep the vendor dazed and occupied while Silver dragged away a huffy Ena.
BASHA-BASHA!
Luna had made sure the three of them crammed for a selfie inside a historical sign for the farmer's marker before they went exploring. Grills were out already this time of day with vendors and small concession stands offering samples to anyone who passed by. And Luna did not look all that impressed with Icarus summoned himself and openly drooled at all the human food he could consume.
The local dishes from Caelum were as delicious as they looked. Ena dipped out from trying manapua since it was filled with pork, but she joined in finishing off their shared Caelun plate and the croissada. Though trying new things did rear its head when a magical vendor offered corn on the cob with spice flakes. Ena and Luna could take the heat.
Silver, on the other hand, started sweating and sweating until he was red all over.
And Ena, Icarus, and Luna were left watching Silver breathe fire and frantically make a break for one of the fountains.
Luna actively documented the brief tours and gallery exhibits Silver had planned out for them with photos and little shorts. An origami exhibit proved to be by a Magician as every origami could move on its own accord. A butterfly origami landed on Luna's perched finger, but she and Ena snort-laughed seeing Silver weighed down by a bunch of origami curious about him.
Dozens of photos had captured their day. A few percussionists had set up shop. To honor the late leaders of Caelum, they had started He Mele No Lilo with a few hula dancers attracting attention. Luna had tentatively joined when a hula dancer noticed her, and Silver had been given the camera to record Luna's hula with the dancers. More pictures showed Silver being a happy lapdog in carrying Ena's bags as she effortlessly purchased a few glass and crystal souvenirs.
Maybe it was solely Luna and Icarus seeing how excited Silver became every time Ena bossed him around.
At one point, they ran into Vydia, Vos' personal assistant, and Ena made all the necessary introductions. But when the inquiry of what Vydia bought, she showed them a box with a very familiar brand name on it and a stallion insignia printed on it.
Ena and Silver recognized it right away with Ena exasperated and Silver flushed.
And Luna never got to see it when both her friends covered her eyes (and Vydia was left with question marks going off).
A kite gallery proved fascinating since a Pict Mage added moving hand-drawn animations to every kite. Luna captured Ena's flushed awe seeing the kites, and she got how startled Ena became when a fiery-eyed Silver demanded to pay for a kite all because—
FWOOSH!
HYU…!
Islands normally would have beaches.
But these sky Paradises had something even better.
Riding the waves of the wind was more common than swimming here in the sky. Barriers lined the edges of the island to prevent anyone from tipping over on accident, but the green hills were filled with people flying their kites or enjoying the wicked winds on their clouds and sky-boards and sails as the wind turbine lapped up the leftover energy.
This was their version of a beach.
Silver, Ena, Luna, and Icarus had taken to flying their kites together. It embarrassed Luna even Icarus was better at kite-flying than her since she still had trouble catching the wind. But she was more embarrassed when Silver picked her up and ran with her to get her kite to catch a breeze. Kite-flying turned into a fun and free experience until Ena noticed something strange occurring over younger. Little pockets dented to earth. Nets had covered them, but professionals helped people onto low-hanging clouds that, once caught the wind, could put them in floating altitudes.
And that was when it came to her.
FWOOSH!
HYU…!
Payback was a bitch.
Silver looked green in the gills as he clung to Ena as the group of four gathered on a waiting cloud on the net, padded in equipment. Before Silver could make an escape, the breeze hit and—
FWOOSH!
Luna whooped as the cloud lifted them high in the sky with Icarus sticking out his tongue as a happy canine. Ena's eyes sparkled as the breeze washed down her back and made her feel lighter than air. The cold did not touch her. She felt warm and comfortable while others…
HRK!
Silver looked ready to throw up. Looking over the side of their cloud and seeing how far up they were proved to be a fatal mistake, and he fainted onto an amused Ena, drooling. But it startled both him and Ena when a carefree Rai popped up on his own cloud with Kalua diligently at his side.
He winked and blew a kiss.
Luna had to hold back Ena when she unleashed her swords to kill him in cold blood.
Rai and Kalua were not the only God Slayer and Custodian pair they bumped into it. Kapa and Holland had conveniently come out of a store, while Aloha looked to be buying some supplies when they all ran into each other. Aloha hid behind Luna when Rai had tried his hand at seducing him (again) while Ena took it in stride when Kapa paid her compliments to her ensemble.
Holland comforted Kalua that his eccentric God Slayer would never finish all the work he had to do as chairman.
Luna smiled as she chatted with Aloha when she glanced away—
Burning tawnies.
She frowned, thinking she saw someone, but Aloha pulled her back into the conversation too soon for her to think about it.
Silver hoarded Ena away from Rai's merciless teasing when his Compact vibrated. He shifted away from the group to attend to it, but his expression faltered when he saw his father calling him. One, two, three, four rings went by as he debated to answer or not.
And the call went to voicemail.
For a moment, it weighed on his mind when he saw a voice message notification pop up, but in the end, he put away his Compact and—
GA!
Silver winced from the bump into someone, but before he could apologize, an agitating scent pricked his nose. He rubbed it and snuck a narrowed look at the woman who had passed him as she hurriedly strode down the street with her dark ringlets trailing down to her mid-back. She turned her head—
A whimsical pale blue eye met with mayan blues.
Bothered, Silver gave her a lingering look before she disappeared into the sea of people. Huh… She looked like she was in a rush. Who was she?
"Silver?"
He looked to see Ena giving him a concerned frown. Well, it doesn't matter to me. He beamed. "Mistress!"
Ena sputtered when he pounced on her, nuzzling her neck. "Silver, down!"
Rai clapped his hands, smiling. "You'll have to train a beast like that with positive reinforcement, Mistress."
TICK!
"How vulgar."
Rai shivered having both Ena and Silver glared at him with Magic in their eyes, like a true mistress and her protective underling. She had no problem giving Rai the point of her blade to his neck, and Silver readied a water whip.
"Watch what you say to me, Mister Kalupe," Ena warned with one hand around Silver's cheek. "Your comments aren't appreciated. You would be wise to keep them to yourself, right, Silver?"
He bared his sharp teeth. "Yes, Mistress."
Rai internally sweated from the overwhelming lethal auras both of them stabbed him with. They're so young but so murderous.
Kapa staked everyone's attention and signed, Since we're all together again, how about lunch?

The modern design had its merit, especially with the bar and the teppanyaki grills on full throttle. Flavorful burgers, shrimp kebobs, huli huli chicken, and fried rice were carefully tended to with practiced hands from the hibachi chefs. A few magical creatures worked in the establishment for extra services. Another mo'o had impressed guests when the chef raised its skewer with chicken. The mo'o turned into a salamander to bathe the skewer in a breath of fire so it was crispy to perfection. With the lobby too small for a proper wait, the hosts had taken over putting hungry guests in the system for a text when their table was ready.

A Domovoi had bowed in respect when the magical creature finished its creations for the private event of the God Slayers, their Custodians, and the Fairy Tail Mages. Everyone thanked it for the food and with the grills clean and cooled, it left them with a tip of its chef's hat.
"I can't believe you got us a private room, Mister Rai!" Luna remarked, amazed at the display of bountiful food and ambiance. "You're so cool!"
"I am cool, aren't I?" Rai boasted as he flicked his bangs. "If you were my pet, you'd be treated like this every night."
Luna thought at the prospect of all the food she could eat at her leisure. Every night?
Silver and Aloha sweatdropped watching Luna salivate. She fell for it.
Ena snapped at Rai as she stabbed into her meal, "Don't bribe her with food." She pointed her knife at him. "And stop calling us 'pets'. We're not pets."
"Oh!" A flowery aura burst from Rai as he cooed, "Of course you're not a pet of that little beastie, Mistress."
TICK!
Silver and Ena gritted their teeth as angry tick marks pounded against their skull. I want to kill him so – badly.
"Um…" Aloha blinked as he looked at Silver. "Why is he calling you a 'beast'?" He cocked his head, curious. "Are you a Chimera?"
Accusing eyes went towards Rai, who ignored all to coo at Kalua and goad him into eating from his fork. This idiot.
Silver clutched his silverware. "Uh… It's…" His eyebrows knitted together as he struggled. "It's just…" I… I don't know what to say. Even I don't have the right answer right now. Everything is still confusing.
Realization donned Aloha as he observed Silver. Oh. He smiled. "It's all right. You don't have to tell me. We've only just met after all. So please, don't give my question a second thought, okay?"
It was as though angelic light flowed from Aloha and blinded everyone in the room as Silver gawked, H-He's an Angel!
"Anyway." Ena crossed her legs and brought her drink to her lips, but sober browns pinned to Rai. "How did it go last night?"
A serious air disturbed the friendly atmosphere from before. Kapa looked uncomfortable as she fiddled with her food and Holland has locked his jaw, looking away. Aloha gulped and looked down at his lap to fidget. Even Kalua looked bothered.
Rai dabbed his mouth with a napkin and a sigh. "Honestly, Ena, you certainly know how to ruin the mood. But I'll answer your question. How did it go?" Dark browns cut to deep browns. "Our littlest brother made it clear he has no intentions of becoming our ally." He rested his chin on a propped hand and swirled his drink. "But that said, he has no intention of becoming our enemy either."

"Ignoring this is futile, you know. You can't go on not acknowledging this."
Akamu finished putting on his jacket in the bedroom he had been provided with Rai leaning against the doorway. "Oh, yeah?" He tossed Rai a dark look. "Watch me." He fondled his pockets to make sure he had everything he had come with.
Rai observed him as he cupped his coffee mug. Blue reticles sparked his eyes to look at the Deathhawk symbol on Akamu's nape. 'How irritating that I have a Hawk for a godly relative. What on Earth Land possessed Mafui'e to make him inherit his powers? Even so, this little Hawk is a prime opportunity. I can't let him leave just yet.'
Akamu fixed his gloves. "Look, you said it's safe to leave, right?" He turned around—
"Are you sure you want to leave, cutie?"
Akamu became stone-faced enduring the sultry aura around Rai and his saucy grin. 'What the fuck is my life anymore?' He gave a frustrated sigh as he rubbed the side of his neck. "Listen. You told me what I needed to know. I get that. I understood everything you said. The only reason I didn't kill you was because you provided useful information."
"Oh?" Rai pitched up an eyebrow. "And if I hadn't?"
"Then"—Akamu looked at him with orange eyes fearsome and violent—"we wouldn't be having this conversation anymore, would we?"
"Oh, so serious, aren't you, little Hawk!"
Akamu had a dark aura around him as Rai laughed and taunted him. 'I should just kill him for the sake of my sanity.'
Rai tempered his amusement to a smile. "I'm well-aware you would've killed me, make no mistake. And I don't have a death wish, as surprising as that may seem. I know when to play it smart." A sharpness took his eyes. "And by playing it smart, we need to do everything we can to get on Baracles' God Son's good side. If we don't, we won't survive his tyranny."
"And how the Hell do you know that?" Akamu demanded to know.
"Because our Custodians confirmed it." Rai's lips quirked into a deep frown as he looked at his coffee. "Baracles was the strongest of the Gods, not just in terms of physical strength, but also in intellect. And those Custodians know that his God Son will be the exact same. And it's their feature." Browns darkened. "As of now, all they know is he hasn't awakened yet. But the moment he does, we will have no choice but to be under his thumb again unless we want to die. And like I said…"
Browns met tawnies. "I don't have a death wish."
Rai shifted, tilting his head. "But I'm sure Deathhawks think different. You Hawks aren't afraid of death. You don't seek it out, but you don't run from it. But then…I'm sure you wouldn't want Baracles' God Son to kill your master."
Akamu bristled. "The Hell did you say?"
'Oh, so there is loyalty there,' Rai thought. He feigned nonchalance. "Baracles had a way of getting unruly Gods into his submission. From what Kalua told me, he couldn't steal the original god of Chaos' power. So instead, he bartered a deal with the god's beloved Champion to get the Chaos God in check. But he had to play it smart. One wrong move and he would be most certainly dead.
"But that's not the only time Baracles has made deals with mortals. Champions, demigods, unclaimed God Children—he tampered with them all to keep the gods on a tight leash. He even had fertility gods at his command to make sure The Hearth could never grasp the one thing they wanted—a child. So I'm curious."
Rai swept Akamu a look with his blue reticles glowing. "Is your master strong enough to handle such a power?"
Akamu gritted his teeth as lava covered his hands and orange messing with his eyes. 'This arrogant son of a bitch. I want to kill him for challenging Vicious like that. But…' He closed his eyes to rein in his temper and sucked back in his lava. When he opened his eyes, strong tawnies showed.
Rai smirked. 'How interesting. A little lapdog who knows the proper time to bark and bite.'
"I'm still not joining you."
Rai frowned. "Didn't you hear me?"
"Yeah." Akamu adjusted his sleeves. "I heard you. But I'm not interested in whatever the Hell is going on here."
"Why?" Rai demanded to know. "This is your only way of surviving—" He ate the rest of his words when cold tawnies stared him down.
"You don't know the meaning of 'survival'," Akamu said in a sotto voce tone. "So I suggest you stop whatever it is you're saying. Or else I will kill you."
Rai hid his swallow. 'He's serious.'
Akamu came toe to toe with Rai. "I know people like you. Rich, powerful, you have connections—you might even know an Undergrounder. But what you're asking is for me to trust you with my life on a gamble." He leaned forward. "I don't gamble. And I – don't – trust you." He took a step back, but his presence consumed Rai. "You do things your way. And I'll do things my way. Don't bother me and I won't bother you."
"And it's that simple?" Rai challenged. "You're not going to tell your nest about us?"
"No."
That surprised Rai. "'No'?"
"No. Why would I?" Akamu lifted his chin. "You're not my target."
Rai had a twitchy smirk. 'Ha. I see now.' He narrowed his eyes. "So then, you'll run back to your nest and tell your master about our plans for her?"
Akamu shoved his hands into his pockets. "No. And I have no intention of returning with her either. She's my target, but…" He looked away. 'I can handle missing my mark once. Lady Lonza won't punish me. She doesn't have that authority to punish me, only to intimidate me. but… If Vicious asks me to come to his aviary and explain my actions, I'll have no choice but to tell him the truth. But…'
Kind chocolates.
A locked jaw.
Akamu pushed past Rai to leave. "Like I said. You stay out of my way and I'll stay out of yours. This is the last time we see each other. The next time"—he showed an eye of tawny and orange—"I will kill you—God Slayer or not. We are not family."
A woman crumbled onto an unforgiving alleyway with bullet holes through her head.
Akamu clenched his hands into a fist. 'We will never be something as ugly as that.' And he kept walking.

"So he left then…" Luna could not help her downtrodden expression. I know I shouldn't feel sympathy for someone trying to kidnap me. I know he's a bad person and part of a bad organization. But… I thought…
Clear tawnies.
Aloha caught Luna's disappointed look. Luna…
"And you think it was safe to let him go?" Ena questioned.
"Couldn't stop the lad if we tried," Holland said with a shrug. "He seemed determined to go, so we let him go."
"But what about the other Custodians?" Silver asked. "Won't they kill him?"
"He's past his Ascension," Kalua answered. "Custodians can't naturally sense God Slayers every day. We have to use special equipment to track them down unless an emerging God Slayer goes through their Ascension. Their power becomes a beacon for those of us in the area. Once the God Slayer's body accepts their power, the beacon is gone. How long it takes for their Ascension to be complete is up to them."
Luna looked up at Aloha and asked, "Do you feel any different?"
"U-Um." Aloha scratched his cheek. "No, not really… O-Oh! But you don't have to worry," he quickly followed up with. "I know my body well enough to know if something's off. If I feel more fatigued than normal, I promise I'll rest."
Holland observed Aloha and Luna's conversation. Normally, a Death God's Ascension is essentially a death and a revival. But I sensed when he unlocked his power, his Ascension only last for a few minutes, like his body had already accepted it so soon. Is that possible or…? His gaze slid to Luna. Did she do something to him?
Kapa clapped for everyone's attention and signed, Enough serious talk! Let's eat before our food gets cold!
"She's right!" Rai offered a forkful to Kalua and cooed, "Say, 'ah' for me…!"
Kalua's face might have looked impassive, but a disgusted aura prevailed. "Please don't feed me, sir."
Lunch broke into an affable affair as everyone heartily dug into their meal. Luna enthusiastically showed Aloha about the Lyrid show to be seen on Ao's Paradise tonight and teased the poor trauma surgeon to bring his crush. Silver and Kapa signed to each other to discuss a new show she was planning for her troupe. Holland could do nothing to save Kalua from Rai's whims and pretended not to notice Kalua's silent pleas for help.
Silver paused to see Ena joining Luna to tease a flustered Aloha with the prospect of having his first date with the woman of his dreams under Starfall. Blues softened hearing Ena's laughter. When did I get like this? Before, I couldn't care less if she smiled. And now… I wouldn't mind if time stopped every time I saw it. When did it all change like this? How did I fall in love with such a beautiful mistress?
His Compact jolting disrupted his thoughts. He looked down to see the contact:
MOM
Ena noticed Silver's mood dampened. "Silver?"
He gave her a strained smile. "Excuse me, Mistress, I have to take this." He bowed out from the table to leave the comfort of the private room. A few more private rooms to talk behind closed sliding doors, but he ignored them to lean against the hallway wall.
The call continued to play.
Silver gripped his Compact. They've been calling me since yesterday. I saw their voice mails once I was able to charge my Compact. I know I should answer. I know they're worried, but… Gritted teeth.
Sparkling blues clouded in grief peered down at his Compact. I don't know how to face them anymore. I don't know…what I should say anymore. I don't even know if they'd give me answers. What if I'm not really their son? I don't know if I want the answer to that.
The call forwarded to voicemail.
A strained exhale shook him. He thumbed his screen with a sad smile. I know I need to talk to you both, but not now. Please. I just want to pretend for a little longer everything's fine. Because I know if I answered your call…
A tear splashed his screen.
I know…I'd break down. And I just want to enjoy this peace for a little longer. He closed his eyes. I'm sorry. I really am selfish. Opening his eyes, he made sure to put his Compact on silent when a text dropped. Paige? He opened her message:
« Hey, you got into an accident when we were younger, right? At Tenrou and you were hospitalized (Penny said something) »
Huh? Silver did not understand. Why is she bringing that up now? He responded:
« …yeah, vaguely. Why? »
« Nothing. I was just shocked. I got lost in the woods the day you were found and not near any beaches, so I guess I missed it. Sorry you had to deal with it. »
Blues widened. Wait. She…? She wasn't even near the beach that day? His brow furrowed. But that doesn't make any sense. I know I heard someone call her name. And that person—that girl—she left. He tried to word his response, but everything got deleted until:
« You were lost that day? »
« Yeah »
Silver hesitated to type. If she was lost… Then he replied:
« Oh. Ok. Glad things worked out for the both of us, I guess lol »
« Right yeah lol »
The conversation died, but Silver looked at the text thread, troubled. So she was really lost. Maybe she isn't remembering properly? But if Penny said something, then I doubt Paige is misremembering. So then… Blues glimmered. If Paige never saved me that day, who did?
He angrily ruffled his hair. Argh! Why is my life so confusing! Can't I get a straight answer on something, please!
Another text dropped, but Silver's chest twisted seeing it was Julia.
« Call mom and dad, jackass. They're worried »
Blues narrowed. Like you care. His fangs showed. At least you're simple. Either you're my sister or you're a Hunter. Because if you're a Hunter…
A chilling look turned his blues serpentine. Then you're not my sister anymore.
You would have thought the queen of Fiore was coming with the way the servants and knights hurried to look as decent as possible. The entire palace had been cleaned, dusted, and polished top to bottom, and even the landscapers had made sure not a strand of grass was higher than the others.

Odette sighed as she checked herself in her mirror. Her contemporary sundress was a good call in theory—as were her contacts—but she could not keep checking over her appearance at every angle. A knock was on her door and she distractedly called, "Come in."
Eros stepped inside and smiled seeing Odette make a fuss. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're worried about a date."
"Stuff it," Odette muttered as she tried to fix her gratuitous neckline. "You know we're not dating or courting. My father would have a stroke. And I need to finish university first." She sighed through her nose when Eros put his hands on his shoulders to stop her from messing with her outfit. "Do I look okay?"
Eros' smile broadened. "How honest do you want me to be?"
Odette pleaded, "Eros…"
"Dreux wouldn't care if you were jeans or looked ready for the opera," Eros soothed. "You look beautiful, Odie. Never doubt that."
Odette smiled at him through the mirror. "Really?"
Eros nodded, stepping back. "Really."
"Thank you." She turned to face him, less frazzled than before. "And thank you for allowing him to come."
Eros raised an eyebrow in amusement. "Just because I promised your father I'd take responsibility for you doesn't mean you need my permission to have dinner with the Duke. You know that. What you do here is up to you."
"You know that's not what I meant," Odette accused him not unkindly. "Are you still meeting that naval officer for dinner?"
Eros shrugged. "It's a no-pressure dinner and drinks, so yes. But unlike you, there's no mistaking it to be a date because it isn't."
"And neither is my dinner tonight with His Grace," Odette quickly defended.
Eros snorted. "You should tell him that."
KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK!
"My Lady," came a call through the door. "His Grace has arrived to collect you for your constitutional."
"Please have him wait in the northern sitting room for Lady Odette," Eros replied. Once the maid gave him a response, he offered Odette his arm, only to falter seeing how uncomfortable she had become. "What's wrong?"
She kneaded her clutch. "Do you really think someone like me deserves to walk next to a Duke?" She gave Eros an uncertain glance. "Do you really think that?"
"Yes." Eros fixed her hair for a quick moment before touching her cheek. "He'll kill me for saying this, but you should know he's been waiting to steal your first and last dance for a while now."
That certainly knocked Odette off-kilter. "Really?"
"Yes." Eros chuckled. "You know His Grace attends functions for practical purposes. He seldom hosts his own parties. And the parties both of you have been to, normally, you both are networking or I'm your escort for the evening. But he's been waiting for an opportunity to be a little old-fashioned in expressing his interest in you. So don't think you don't deserve to be by his side when that's what he's been hoping for."
Odette flushed hearing such words. He's…been waiting all this time? She looped her arm with Eros' own and felt she was gliding as he escorted her out of her room. Dreux…
Eros murmured, "Did that help?"
Odette gave him a mean look. "No, it just made me more nervous!" She fretted as they made it down the hall. "Oh, Eros, what if I disappoint him? I-I'm not exactly a good candidate for someone like a Duke—!"
"Says the lady who had to teach the Marchioness how to handle the estate finances and has been actively handling the finances of the hall of knights since she was seventeen," Eros reminded. They made it to the grand staircase and descended. "We're not in the Middle Era. It's not expected of you to be like the Marchioness and look pretty."
Odette flushed. "She doesn't more than that," she defended, albeit feebly.
Eros knew she her defense lacked conviction, but he did not speak on it. "Your mother was the best of them, Odie, you know that. She barged into a gentlemen's club and didn't just make herself a pretty marchioness to host tea parties and place night. She was your father's business partner just as much as she was his wife. And we both know how much your father loved that about her. What makes you think Duke Alexandreux would be different? After all, his mother was revolutionary herself."
Odette sighed. "I'm not my mother, Eros."
"No." When they reached the ground floor, Eros stopped them to tuck a lock of hair behind her ear. "But you're like her in many ways. You're just as talented and hardworking as she is. Sure, you're not as bold as her, but I don't think anyone was as bold as your mother." He chuckled. "I still remember how she convinced other noblewomen to go on strike against their spouse's beds when there were mere rumors of trying to find Her Majesty a husband."
Odette laughed as well. "I remember that too. My father was a mess."
"Mine was too. He even made an elaborate plan to break into the guest suite she stayed in," he recounted, shaking his head. "He single-handedly stopped those rumors and even held a ball to speak on the issue. Everyone said he was a madman who loved his wife."
He sweatdropped recalling his overzealous lumberjack of his father reduced to a cringeworthy romantic in the presence of his Duchess. It makes me wonder if I'm really his son.
"That could be you," Odette teased him, "if all goes well with your dinner date tonight."
Eros guided her forward. "I doubt that. I'm not much of a romantic and neither is Lieutenant Rashida. We're both much more practical than anything."
Odette frowned. "You don't have to go out with her."
"I'm aware of that." Eros looked highly amused at Odette's concern for him. "But it would be good to do so anyway. She and I have a strong respect for each other and she's been a long-time acquaintance. Nothing much comes out of dinner than us getting to know each other without having marching orders." He chuckled when Odette's frown deepened. "Don't worry about me. Lieutenant Rashida and I will be fine. Worry about yourself."
They stopped before the sitting room door and he jested, "And make sure His Grace brings you back home tonight."
Red-faced, Odette shoved Eros away. "Oh, you can be such a jerk sometimes!"
"And this 'jerk' has had to deal with being your escort since we were kids," Eros reminded. "It'll be a relief that I no longer have to be your dance partner at all those functions, especially when you'd step on my feet—"
"I did not!" Odette gasped, shoving a finger at him. "You—!"
FWIP!
Both paused to see Alexandreux standing at the open entryway dressed in a loose button-down with the sleeves rolled up and casual slacks and loafers. "Pardon the interruption. I thought I heard familiar voices out here."
Eros blinked when he saw Alexandreux's dark look linger on him. Is he upset we took too long to come down?
"Your Grace." Odette curtsied on reflex. "It's nice to see you again—"
"You don't have to bow," Alexandreux stopped her, lifting her chin. "And it's lovely to see you again too, My Lady." He smiled when Odette pinkened. "Are you ready for tonight?"
"Um, yes, Your Grace, of course," Odette answered.
"Then…" Alexandreux offered her his hand. "Shall we?"
Odette slipped her hand into his with a shy smile. "We shall."
"Wonderful." Before Alexandreux could lose himself in Odette's eyes, he dismissively told Eros, "I'll make sure she's home by an appropriate hour. Have a good night with the lieutenant."
Eros blinked again as Alexandreux escorted Odette away. What was that look for? He crossed his arms, contemplative. Perhaps he really is upset we kept him waiting for too long. He ruffled his hair. Oh, well. Nothing we can do about it now.
"Are they gone?"
Eros paid Sylvie no heed when she popped up next to him in her floral romper. "They are." And he walked back towards the stairs.
Naturally, Silver kept up with him and feigned nonchalance as she told him, "I guess a grandpa like you would have nothing to do tonight, so I was thinking—"
"Ask Nora or Octavius," Eros told her. "I have plans."
Sylvie rolled her eyes. "Nice try. We all know all you do is brood and ruin people's nights." She loudly said, "And it's not like a fun-sucking grandpa like you could get a girlfriend to spend your time with—"
"I have a date."
Eros walked on while Sylvie froze. "What?" A suspicious scowl later, and she hurried to catch up with him. "You so don't."
"I do," Eros told her. "I have to prepare to go get her."
Silver still did not believe it. "Prove it." Though all her high and mighty challenging died when Eros stopped.
"I have nothing to prove to an attention-seeking child like you." His dismissive gaze towards her reeked of distaste. "Find Nora or Octavius to entertain yourself. If you choose to go out alone, you'll get a nanny to watch you or you can be kindly returned to your estate." And he walked away.
Sylvie, still rooted in place, called, "You actually have a date?"
Eros ignored her as he climbed up the steps.
Sylvie huffed. "You could at least answer me! That's called being courteous!"
Eros continued to ignore her as he disappeared onto the second floor.
Sylvie grumbled, agitated, "Who's being a child now?"
But her ire simmered down for something unpleasant. He's…going on a date? There's someone he likes enough to date? But he never cared about that. Why now? Upset, she left the foyer to retreat deeper into the palace.
And maybe, had she waited a beat longer, she could see a silhouette hand breach into the real world.
Bar and grill restaurants always had the best atmosphere late at night.
The indoor-outdoor establishment had opened up its wall-sized windows to take in the warm breeze of spring that drowned out the heavy scents of grease and booze. Little wiggle room existed with both bars taken up and hooting and hollering storming up the room as people rooted for an action-packed qualifying round for the IGSG. This was the sort of place that you came dressed down in and those who dressed up curated curious looks. The new salmon sliders had become a hit with the crowd. A few had taken to the patio to dance to the live band performing their set of cover songs. A tipsy uncle embarrassed his niece as he teased the daylights out of her for ordering Perench onion soup at the bar.

"Try to balance your drink and how much you're eating," Ena reminded as she took time with her own cocktail. "We don't need Laughy Lulu to make her appearance."
Luna hmphed with a partial flush on her cheeks. "I know how to drink." But she was more conscientious to take from their shared appetizers and pull her water closer to her (even if she looked pouty doing it).
"Sure you do," Silver teased as he stuck to his pop and water. "But just so you know, you only are allowed one Laughy Lulu night, so use it wisely. I'm willing to deal with her, but I'm not willing to put up with her trying to get her Compact back to do irresponsible things."
He could not block out the memory of a half-naked and drunk Luna giving him crocodile tears as she clung to his leg while he held her Compact captive (and a seething Gale caught the entire thing). Yeah, no, I'm not looking for another reason for Gale to go hard on me during training. Sorry, Lulu.
Luna huffed. "I'm not that bad," she petulantly mumbled. "And anyway, I ate a lot for dinner, so this should be fine. I'll be sober for the Lyrid shower tonight." She bounced in her seat. "I'm so excited for it! Mama says the shower is this entire week, but tonight is the only night we can see it since we have the Young Nation concert tomorrow, which I'm also excited for."
"Me too," Silver agreed. "I can't believe we got to meet Young Nation." He dreamily sighed. "And Mistress even got us front row seats. I get to see JJ up close. This is like a dream come true!" He snuck a drinking Ena a grin. "Lulu and I will have to teach you all the fan chants, Mistress."
Ena finished her swallow, perplexed. "Why? I don't see the point in learning them. I'll be sure to enjoy the concert without them…." She trailed off seeing those imploring puppy eyes from Luna and Silver piercing arrows through her heart. Defeated, she muttered, "I-I…suppose I'll learn."
Silver and Luna beamed, all flowery and merry, while Ena looked ready to flag down a server for a stronger drink. Devils, the both of them. Such cute Devils.
She cut into her potato wedge and went for some sour cream as she asked them, "Have you given thought if you wanted to go to the soundcheck? Our tickets let us go to the soundcheck."
"We decided to go with the regular concert time," Luna told her. "The concert starts at seven-thirty, but we'll need to get there a few hours early, so we can get the concert merch and get in line. I heard all those horror stories of ARMY missing the first few songs when they waited too long to get in line."
"Don't worry." Silver showed the itinerary in his Compact. "I made sure we could finish sightseeing and have time to prepare for the concert, so we're good to go."
He and Luna grasped hands. Our time to shine has come!
Ena sighed at Luna and Silver's shenanigans. Perhaps I should add strange, cute Devils.
She sipped her drink and let her gaze shop around the establishment. Admittedly, today has been the fun day we've needed. Silver's scheduling truly outdid itself. He even timed our short breaks to perfection. And Luna photographed the entire day. I'm sure she'll post them soon enough. I'm delighted they're enjoying themselves after yesterday's mess. Where would I be without their happiness? I'm happy to have such beautiful friends.
Browns sparkled as she swirled her drink. I feel so sentimental. Is it from all the drinks?
"Mistress?"
Ena lifted her gaze when Silver cupped her cheek.
"You look a little red," Silver observed. "Are you okay?"
Ena kept her smile in check. Yes. Perhaps it's the drinks and the atmosphere making me feel like this. And if I'm allowed to excuse my behavior on such things… "Silver?"
"Miss—" Red slapped Silver's face when Ena took his hand to kiss his knuckles. "M-M-Mistress?"
"Forgive me." Ena let go of his hand, eyes half-lidded. "I couldn't resist." She paid mind to her drink. "If you feel offended, I'll take responsibility for my actions."
Silver swallowed and could feel the phantom caress of Ena's lips on his knuckles. She… He turned away to cover his red face. She really is too cute for my sanity. He mumbled, "N-No. It's… It's okay, Mistress." He cradled his kissed hand. I really want to kiss her again.
Luna giggled with a drunken red on her cheeks and teased, "Then you should kiss her again. Show her she's a lucky girl!"
Silver gawked and could see Luna and Luke side-by-side with their thumbs up. Is she a mind-reader? Wait. A horrifying thought came to him. She has Telepathy. And if she can read my thoughts…
"E, E, E!" Luna took to poking a relaxed Ena. "Guess what?" She announced in a loud whisper, "Silver wants to kiss you again and thinks you're reeeeeeally cute."
Lightning struck Silver. I had such a nice life until now.
"Does he now? How charming."
Silver stiffened when Ena's thumb smoothened over his bottom lip, and he felt heat splotch all over his body. Mistress?
"Hm." Dark browns looked at his lips, half-mast, before Ena said, "You have very soft lips." She went to move her hand, but Silver stopped her and kissed her thumb. The action made her lightly titter. "Do you really wish to kiss your mistress? You already shower me in affection enough. Your lady love might grow jealous if you don't give her the same attention you give me."
"She won't."
Ena grew a little taken aback seeing the seriousness in Silver's eyes.
"You are my first, Mistress," Silver promised. "No one else. I mean that." He pressed her hand to his cheek. "So please believe me when I say it."
Ena meant to say something when she lost it. He's so… She puffed an exhale. "You truly are sweet." Smile tender, her eyes glinted as she matched his. "Do you mean that? That if I asked you to abandon her for me, you would?"
"I would." Silver left no room for debate.
But Ena's smile dimmed. "Then you're a fool." She cut her eyes away. "There's no need for that. I'm not the type to ask you to make such sacrifices. You should be happy with her. I can't make people happy." Browns downcast. "It would seem I only make people upset or worried."
Ena's words chipped at Silver's heart. "Mistress—"
Luna loudly cut in, "Oh, look, there's Gigi!"
The table could see Vos fuss around an irritated Gianni as he escorted him to the bar. You would think Gianni was the queen of Fiore the way Vos helped him into his high-rise seat and doted on him (even though Vos beamed whenever Gianni looked ready to bite his head off).
"And he's with Vos." Ena set down her drink. "I should go say hello."
Silver moved. "I'll come—"
"No." Ena did not look at him, but she lessened her rejection. "You both should stay here. I'll be back. Excuse me." And she abandoned both of them.
Reluctantly, Silver sat back in his seat, but he watched her make her way to the bar. Vos and Gianni looked receptive to her interruption, though Gianni looked more relieved he escaped Vos' intense flirting. They exchanged hugs and cheek kisses, but Vos pouted a little when Gianni made room for Ena to sit between them.
"Sorry."
Silver swung his gaze back to Luna, curious. "About what?"
"Reading both of your minds and emotions," Luna explained. "I'm not all that good at blocking out loud broadcasts yet—"
"Don't worry about it." A bittersweet smile twisted Silver's lips. "It's not like you said anything wrong. And even if I couldn't smell her with all these scents everywhere, I have eyes. I know she got uncomfortable." Blues dimmed. "I just hate that she believes what she says—that she makes people upset."
Luna stirred her drink with a glance back at Ena, Vos, and Gianni. "I know." She sighed and showed Silver a little smile. "But if it helps, I think she's slowly changing her mind. At least, I could feel that much."
Silver gave an unexpected chuckle. "That's a relief." He took a gulp of water. "It's not like we can change her mind. I'm not stupid enough to think that. I know better than that. She has to do that on her own, but…" His grip tightened on his glass. "I don't need her to respect me. I don't even need her to love me. But I want her to know she could know so much more about this world if she changes her mind."
Luna hummed her agreement. His emotions… It's so clear he wants nothing more than for E to be happy and loved. If I focus a little, I can see how much he wants her to love him back, but he's trying to keep it buried. And E… She's keeping so much buried so he can be happy too.
She internally sighed. Why do I have such selfless friends? If they were a little more selfish… If they just talked to each other…
Silver's gaze flashed down to his Compact when he saw his mother called again.
Luna took a peek too, but she saw Silver staring at his screen. "You're not going to answer." An understanding statement rather than accusing question.
"I…" Silver reached for his Compact, but he could not bring himself to touch the screen. "I…" His finger wavered when he tried to hit ⟪ Decline ⟫ only to falter and draw his hand to the edge of the table. "I…can't."
The call went to voicemail.
Luna's face fell watching Silver struggle and mull over his actions. Silver… I can feel how conflicted he is. He feels so guilty and confused and hurt.
Browns saddened. I know it's still on his mind about last night. Turning into a Dragon… He's like Gale and Igneel; I'm sure of it. But they've always been so confident. And I know it's harder for Silver. But…
She stopped stirring her drink. What can I do to help him?
She blinked when her Compact vibrated and pulled it from her pocket only to freeze.
Silver caught Luna's expression and asked, "Who…?"
"It's…" Luna showed her screen. "It's my mama. But we already checked in. I'm sure she's calling because your parents are worried."
"Oh." Silver looked down. "I'm sorry. You should answer it." His hands dropped to his lap. "I don't want you to get dragged into this because of me."
Luna frowned. Silver… She took her mother's call on the last ring. "Hey, Mama."
"Hey, baby," Lucy helloed albeit hesitantly. "I know I called earlier today, but, uh… What are you up to now?"
Luna withheld both her exasperation and amusement. "Mama, you always say lying is wrong." Her mother sputtered with nervous laughter, but Luna focused on Silver as he hunched over, face clouded. Straightening, she told her mother, "Mama, I'm pretty sure Aunt Juvia or Uncle Gray asked you to call me to see if Silver was okay."
Lucy stammered, "W-W-Well, ah…!" She sighed. "They did," she conceded. "But it's not just them. Your papa and I are worried about him too, Lu." Lowering her voice, she murmured, "Is he okay?"
Luna's eyebrows pooled together as she tried hard to concentrate. I know I need to be careful with what I say, but it's so hard to focus now. And I'm just so upset for him. Her eyebrow twitched. I can do this. I can be calm.
"No, he is not okay!"
Startled, Silver gawked as an angrily flushed Luna stood up and barked into her Compact. "Lulu?!"
"He is very upset right now!" Luna gnashed. "And he has every right to be upset! How could anyone think he's okay after what he's been through! He's traumisized!"
Silver's eyebrow twitched as he held up his hands. She's slurring her words. I should've known. "H-Hey, Lulu, let's calm down now—"
"No!" A fire was in Luna's eyes. "They need to know how much they hurt you and that I'll burn down the world if someone hurts you!"
If you keep yelling like that, you're going to hurt my reputation! Silver wanted to cry. He sighed and plucked Luna's Compact from her. "Give me that." Easily, he held her back when she tried and failed reaching for her Compact and muttering all the injustices she would defend him from. "Hey, Aunt Lucy. I'm sorry about her. She's drunk."
"I'm not drunk!" Luna cried. "I'm prefectly sober!"
Silver sweatdropped watching Luna's flimsy attempts of retrieving her Compact. Can she not hear herself? He cooed, "Of course you're not drunk, Lulu. But could you sit down, please?"
Please. He internally sweated and tried not to notice all the eyes on them. Before someone accuses me of something illegal.
Once Luna sat down, Silver laid in on thick with his praise. "Oh, you're so good, Lulu, sitting down." He patted her head. "Can you be quiet now for me?"
Luna swayed before his question registered and she looked like a sated kitten under his head pats. "M'kay."
"That's my girl," Silver cooed. I'm so happy Gale is far, far away. I don't want to think what he'd do if he learned how cute Lulu gets when she's tipsy like this.
• — • — • — •
"I'm kitty! Nyan!" Fantasy-Luna, drunk as a skunk, pretended to be a purring kitten with her hands curled. "Nyan-nyan! I'm such a cute kitty!" She swayed only for a gloved hand to capture her chin.
"Here, kitty, kitty." Fantasy-Gale somehow looked like a tyrant as he stroked Luna's chin and—oh dear gods, they were in some sort of dramatically dark dungeon. "Does the cute kitty want to be my lap cat?"
• — • — • — •
"Silver?" Somehow, an angelic glow of innocence lit up behind a pink-cheeked Luna. "Can you pat my head again?" Her eyes flashed down as she scratched her cheek with a finger. "I really liked it. So please?"
LUB-DUB!
Silver clutched his shirt as he turned away from Luna's brightness. I'll protect you from Gale's evil clutches, Lulu, I promise!
"Silver?"
He froze hearing Lucy's voice. "Uh…" Nervously sweating, he excused, "S-Sorry if you heard all that—"
"It's fine," Lucy simpered. "At least I know Luna's in good hands with you. That's all I could ask for. Thank you for taking care of her, Silver. I mean it."
Silver, warmed, smiled. "It's no problem, Aunt Lucy, honest." He watched a listless Luna hiccup and looked so surprised she made such a sound. Really. He laughed to himself when Luna hiccupped again. I don't know where I'd be without her.
"About why I called…"
Silver did not lose his smile, but the warmth from it was gone. "Right. Listen. About my mom and dad, I… It's just—"
"You don't have to say anything, Silver."
Blues widened.
"Even though Luna made it perfectly clear to me, I knew you didn't want to be disturbed." Lucy's voice sweetened, soft. "Your parents are worried about you, yes, and so is all your family. But Levy and I were the ones to say we should leave you alone. I'm sure you're confused and scared and hurt. And talking right now… It feels like if you confronted anything, you'd fall apart."
Silver's lips trembled as his gaze fell onto the table. "How do you know that?"
"Because we've seen it," Lucy answered. "As you know now, Levy and I had our hands full with two very strong boys. For Levy, she knows Gale's hidden a lot from her over the years. And she knows pressing him to tell her anything would make him even more distant from her. And for me, Igneel was, well, himself. It was difficult for him when he was younger to understand sadness until it hit him. And since then, I knew I needed to wait for him to come to me when he was upset. But for your parents, it's different, Silver. Gary moved away from home when he was a little older than you. I know, in their eyes, they felt they lost him."
Blues sparked. I know. He remembered watching the door of Gary's new home close for his final goodbye. But even as Gary smiled, in those last seconds, Silver caught that smile dip into a quivering frown with an icy tear slipping down his cheek. We all thought we'd never get him back. Mom and I would sleep in his old room for a while. He was still in Magnolia, but…
Lifeless ceruleans.
We were so afraid if we pushed him a little, he'd break. His heart throbbed. And we'd lose him after we just got him back.
Silver looked away. "I'm nothing like Gary. This is nothing like Gary."
"I know," Lucy soothed. "But it's hard for your parents to not be afraid it is."
"Then why…? Why didn't…?" A tear landed on the back of Silver's hand. Blues glinted, watery, as his face broke into grief that he struggled to contain. "Then why didn't they say anything to me? Dad didn't say anything to Gary and look at him now. Why didn't they say anything to me?"
Lucy gave a deep sigh. "I don't know. I can't make excuses, Silver, I really can't. We've all hidden so much from all of you because we thought we had more time to explain things. But time is funny like that. We thought we could control it, but we never could. All of you are growing into yourselves so much faster than we anticipated. I'm sorry that we've let you down."
"N-No, I…" Silver covered his face as he willed himself to not cry. "Can you tell my mom and dad I'll talk to them when I come home?"
"Will you be ready to talk by then?"
Silver could not answer that.
"How about this? If you'd like, you can stay with Luna or you can come home with Gajeel and Levy if you're still not up for it."
Silver moved his hand to see a swaying Luna looking more high than drunk as she looked at the light with all the fascination in the world. "I'll…" He looked away. "I'll think about it."
"I promise we won't bother you if you come to stay with us until Inter-Guild," Lucy assured. "You'd only be staying for the weekend too since Inter-Guild starts next Monday. Luke and Gale had planned to take Luna, but I know they'd be happy to take you too." She added ruefully, "We offered to take her, but I guess it's not cool anymore for your parents to drop you off, huh?"
Against it all, Silver laughed. "No, it's not." A beat. "Do you think my parents would…?"
"They'd be upset," Lucy told him, honest, "but they'd understand. They're worried, Silver, of course they are, but they'll understand you're not ready to talk. I can let them know you're not okay, but you still need some time. And if I know Luna, she won't be opposed to you sharing her room. And before you ask, no, Gale won't be coming over." She added in a mutter, "I've had enough Dragons breaking into my house for a lifetime."
Silver snorted. "Yeah. Gale's determined." A Dragon, huh? A slow realization crossed him. Wait a minute…
"Just promise me something?"
"A-Ah, yes?"
A beat.
"Give them a chance to explain when you're ready," Lucy asked of him. "I know you have so many questions. I know that you're hurt right now. But I hope you'll let them explain. Because both of them love you so much, Silver. I hope you know that."
Silver visibly softened. "Yeah, I know."
"All right. I'll let them know then and see you at the end of the week. Please make sure Luna doesn't do anything embarrassing. I've witnessed Nashi and Luke tipsy and let's just say, I'm more than aware they inherited a few traits from me. I hope she's still doing okay right now."
"Oh, she's, uh…" Silver sweatdropped as Luna giggled touching a random teenage boy's face. "Ah, she's…fine, Aunt Lucy. I-I'll take good care of her." He wanted to cry on the inside seeing the young man strike up a flirtatious conversation with a giggly Luna. Gale's gonna kill me. "See you this weekend. Love you."
"Love you too."
Silver ended the call with a sigh. Thanks, Aunt Lucy.
"Silver…"
He looked up—
A dark aura shrouded him as Luna clung to the arm of this blushing young man. "Look, Silver, I made a new friend! He's so nice!"
PAT!
The young man sweated profusely as a cold Ena put her hand on his shoulder with a murderous aura about her. "I think there's a mistake here." She pressed down with a magenta ring in both her eyes. "Get out."
Luna pouted as the young man scurried away. "There went my new friend…"
Ena squished Luna's cheeks with a serious look. "L, we're going to go see the stars tonight. Be excited for that."
Luna blinked. A dreamy smile lit her face and brightness was back in her eyes. "M'kay…"
Ena sighed as she sat down while Luna hiccupped and giggled. "Well I'm sober now. Thank goodness I am." She crossed her arms and cut a fearsome glower towards a few people shooting Luna lingering looks, who sweated and looked away. Ha… I should buy her a bell collar at this rate.
"How'd everything go with Gigi and Vos?" Silver asked as he kept Luna's Compact close.
"Well…" Ena replayed the conversation in her head of her pretending not to notice a sunny Vos try his hand of copping a feel of an irritated Gianni. It did not help the moment she got up, Vos came in for the kill to sit next to the tailor. And she ignored the pleading look Gianni sent her, aghast she would abandon him, while Vos gave her a peace sign and a cheeky grin. It would take too long to explain their complicated history.
Ena surmised with a dismissive wave, "It went well."
She's totally lying. Silver noticed Vos and Gianni at the bar. Vos had to get up, but he hugged an exasperated Gianni. And for all Gianni's annoyance and huffiness, he softened at the softer kiss Vos gave him. I didn't realize Gianni had someone he cared about like that. That's sweet.
His smile dipped to a frown when, the moment Vos had vacated the bar, another slipped into his seat. Gianni went rigid at this suspendered man. Who is that?
The suspendered man flagged down the bartender and turned his head—
Cunning magentas.
Silver blinked. Woah… I've never seen eyes like that before.
"Anyway"—Ena's voice bought Silver's attention—"let's finish up here and get back to the hotel. L will want to sober up so she can take pictures of the shower."
"Uh, yeah, sure, that's fine."
Ena observed him for a few moments. "Everything okay?"
"Ha." A painted humorless smile adorned Silver. "Is anything ever?"
"True." Ena watched as Silver nudged Luna to keep eating (though she opened her mouth and Silver, partly amused, started feeding her). As much as he might be holding up well on that outside, it's obvious something is wrong. When Silver's Compact lit up with a few notifications, he saw the piled-up notifications of voicemails and missed calls from his parents. And it's obvious as to what.
• — • — • — • — •
Ena waved a hand over her face as she yawned and crossed the communal room threshold. 'Oh, I'm exhausted. That new armor must've taken more power to wear than I thought. I'll be able to think more clearly tomorrow.' She approached the bedroom door—
"Why didn't they say something—anything—to me?"
She paused at the distress in Silver's cracked question.
"What if they weren't ever going to tell me? What if…I'm not even their kid?"
Deep browns widened.
• — • — • — • — •
Ena's stare flicked away. A question of his parentage. Anyone with eyes can see he's Mister and Misses Fullbuster's son. From a magical sense, he shares hints with his mother. But things have changed. It's undeniable he is a Dragon or a Dragon Slayer. And such an ability isn't inherited. Slayer powers cannot be inherited, only taught. Or so that's what I thought, but…
She considered the options. Slayers have their birth parents, but they have the parent of their power. Igneel the Dragon is Uncle Natsu's Dragon Father, but not his paternal father. So that would go to say, Silver has a Dragon Parent, which would be—
It clicked, and her lips pressed together. So I was right in my first assumption. But Silver… That sort of truth is hard to acknowledge. If I have questions, he must have dozens more. I can't imagine what he's going through.
"Mistress?"
Ena blinked up for browns to meet concerned blues. This person… He truly is strong. And he must be hurting too. And all I want is to erase his pain.
Silver started when Ena took hold of his hand, red-cheeked. "M-Mistress—"
"Silver."
Flustered blues clashed with kind browns.
"You don't have to hide." She squeezed his hand. "You can always rely on me. Never think otherwise."
Blues sparkled. Mistress… He gave her an affectionate beam. "I know. I have such a kind-hearted mistress."
"Hmph." Ena glanced over as tipsy Luna tried to keep herself awake. "Let's go see the stars."
"Yeah." Silver could feel all the negativity chaining him down disappear as warmth filled him. "Let's go."

Later that night…

• — • — • — • — • — • — • — • — •
Bella Notte—what a relevant song to describe such a night.
The Lyrid shower was not as big of an event as people made it out to be. Stars scattered through the entire week, of course, and while late nights permitted some to see a handful of stars drop from their place in the sky, it was a slow-moving event. Even so, with clear skies and away from the bright lights, all were in awe at the twinkling stars swirling in the sky.
The greens had been covered in people with their chairs and blankets. Some had brought coolers and food to enjoy this night. The playground had a few little ones joshing around, wide-awake even for so late at night. A few telescopes popped up on the grass with astronomic hobbyists and enthusiasts helping their friends and family get a glimpse of the harder-to-see stars falling.

"This is amazing!" Luna looked at the picture she had taken of the sky with its watery blues and violets. "These pictures are coming out great!"
You will have to thank your grandmother Anna for buying you that new lens, Icarus reminded as he sat beside her in his Dog Form.
I know. Luna set up for a new shutter shot and smiled when her camera caught a falling Lyrid. I'll make sure to take plenty of pictures to show her. With the pictures taken, she brought down her camera to take a look. I can't wait to post this. I'll make sure to do some editing tonight. She glanced around. C'mon. I want to get a photo from over there.
Silver and Ena had decided to stake their patch of land atop a hill with a blanket and some food and drink. But Ena noticed Luna drifting away and called, "Where I can see you!" She laughed when Luna waved her off. "I know she's going to be a wanderlust person. Oh." She accepted Silver's snack plate offering. "Thank you."
"Sure." He went to uncap his water with one eye on Luna. "She did say she always wanted to travel the world and take pictures. I made her promise she'd take me with her and that I'd swim in every river and ocean we came across. And when we were done, she'd be a professional photographer, and I'd be a professional swimmer." He laughed to himself. "It was pretty stupid though."
"Oh?" Ena chewed and swallowed her finger food before inquiring, "How come?"
"Well, you know." Silver took a swig of water. "Of course I'd love to participate in the international Grand Sports Festival. Even just the Ishgaran Grand Sports Games would be enough for me, but…" He shrugged. "It's not really that possible. I could wear sealstone cuffs, but…"
Ena prompted him when he did not carry on, "'But'?"
He forced an exhale. "Well…" Giving her glance, he murmured, "Don't get mad, okay?"
Ena raised an eyebrow. "I won't agree to that. Continue."
Silver mirthlessly chuckled. "All right." Eyes on his water, he explained: "Back at Savant Hall, when I overheard the Marchioness and that High Brother person, I… I didn't tell you the whole truth about what happened."
Ena narrowed her eyes. "You never fell, did you?"
"I…fell…technically," Silver haltingly confirmed. "I-I just…didn't fall by accident."
"Start talking," Ena gritted. "And do not leave out a single detail."
Silver felt like he had no choice, but he could not look at her. "Someone had gotten the jump on me. I should've sensed them or fought back, but I couldn't. They were strong. Because I could cast a spell, they had me on the ground and put sealstone cuffs on me. I passed out, but when I woke up…I was in a cell—"
CRACK!
Gritted teeth. "They dared harm you."
Rage brutalized Ena's eyes as her Magic swirled and pressured those around her. How dare those disgusting pigs touch him? I should have gone after him when he didn't show for the duel. And because I didn't, they hurt him. The crest of her Magic Circle blossomed on her back. They don't deserve my mercy—
All her wrath knocked away when Silver pulled her into a tight embrace. He soothed, "It's okay, Mistress. Please don't get angry. I'm all right."
He pulled away to see Ena failing to fight down her ire, and he could taste the spice of her fury. This won't do. I don't want her upset. He cupped her cheek. "Mistress?"
Seething browns met half-lidded blues.
"If you keep getting angry, Mistress"—he smiled as he feathered her bottom lip—"then I'll have to kiss the anger away."
LUB-DUB!
Ena turned away from him as her anger exchanged for pure embarrassment. "What is wrong with you!" she accused, bewildered. "You're so shameless!"
"Am I?" A flowery aura overpowered Silver. "I'm only this shameless with you, Mistress."
That is not a compliment! Ena covered her lips as though afraid he would make good on his word. "Just—! Keep talking. What happened after that?"
Silver's amusement faded for a coldness of his memories. "After that…" He hunched forward.
Ena's abashment traded for concern. "Silver?"
"After that, I…" He gripped his water. "I woke up, and I knew you were in danger. But they had tied together my wrists and my feet with sealstone. I couldn't just stay there." The threat of War made his blues dangerously glint. "I couldn't let those bastards touch my mistress, so I…" The glint faded. "I…transformed."
That shocked Ena. "Into a…?"
Silver nodded.
A whirl of questions surrounded Ena, but she asked the most important one: "How is that possible?"
"I don't know." Silver was honest in that. "Uncle Gajeel told me sealstone was made for Magic. But it was like…I knew transforming would break me out of those cuffs, even if it shouldn't have worked. Oh!" He sweated as he looked away. "A-And I was kind of, sorta…one-hundred percent responsible for that wing blowing up…"
TICK!
A tick mark blasted Ena's temple as she glowered at a sweating Silver. Of course he was responsible. Sighing, she muttered, "I suppose I can't be upset you accosted the Marquis a measly wing since you did come to my aid. I can't punish you for that."
"Not even a little, Mistress?"
Ena's eyebrow twitched when her imagination turned Silver's innocent look into a desperate-looking masochist with steam puffing from his nose. What kind of relationship does he think we have? "No," she said flatly. "Not even a little."
"Oh… Okay, Mistress…"
Another tick mark bombarded Ena seeing Silver's kicked-puppy expression. Is he that much of a masochist? She put a few fingers to her temple and exhaled her irritation (and tried to ignore how sad Silver looked he was denied a punishment). I'd better not linger on his fetishes before I really do punish him.
Thoughtful, she frowned. How could his transformation bypass sealstone? It's not possible. Sealstone is a tried-and-true method in capturing Mages since it automatically counteracts Magic.
It hit her. That's right. Magic isn't all that exists in this world.
Chin between her thumb and finger, she sorted her thoughts. To be completely honest, Ether is what powers people. It's what the first Magic came from. But what most people forget is that Ether powers other sources like Curses.
Her brow furrowed. But to become a Dragon isn't a Curse, so that can't be right. So that rules out Ether. But what other powers exist? The only other thing I could think of is Spiritual Power like Wiccans and Shamans can tap into, but how does that apply here?
She kept thinking…and thinking…and thinking—
"Hey, E!"
Ena looked up to see Luna waving at her.
Luna pointed downhill. "I'm going to go down here for some shots, but I'll be right back!"
Ena nodded and her eyes chanced over Icarus as he shifted from his Dog Form to his Natural Form with ease—
Browns widened. That's right. A Spirit. "Silver."
He looked so hopeful about her call. "Yes, Mistress?"
Ena held back from hitting him when she saw steam puff from his nose. Is he still thinking I'll punish him? Dismissing it, she told him, "I think I understand how you transformed."
Now she shocked Silver. "What?"
"A Spirit," Ena told him. "Spiritual Power isn't something sealstone can negate. It's not even Ether. Penelope might be able to answer this better than me, but I don't think you overrode the sealstone with Magic. I think you overrode it with Spiritual Power—a Dragon Spirit."
Silver could not move. A…Dragon Spirit?
Penelope's words from months ago yielded relevance now. "Your soul is untouched, but your spirit was forced to grow. That's your imbalance." Listless pale reds. "Now that you have enforced it, you must correct. Permanent imbalance with no correction causes the user to be consumed in endless despair."
He absently touched his chest. So then… That's what she meant—my Spirit. A Dragon Spirit. Is that…? Is that even possible? Am I…?
Ena was certain of it now. That would explain why he transitioned into a Dragon but he maintained his sense of self. From my understandings, Slayers became what they had slain. Their power acted as a catalyst and unless an inhibitor was taken, they had no choice in turning. That's why Slayers like Monster Slayers, Devil Slayers, and Demon Slayers never lasted long. Overuse of their ability was the catalyst, and finding an inhibitor potion was nonexistent back then. So instead, they scarcely used their ability, but in that, neglect was the catalyzing agent to force them into madness.
I can't speak for God Slayers, but Dragon Slayers were different. Their power created a Seed and overuse prompted the transformation. That's why the Dragon Gods existed, Slayers who were turned Dragons.
But Uncle Natsu told me the Dragon Gods were the only successful transformers. Others who succumbed to the transformation turned into full beasts with no regard for life, and they couldn't go back to their human selves. Silver's transformation and the Dragon Gods proved it was possible to keep a human form. And Silver's transformation wasn't because of Transformation Magic, or else the sealstone would've stopped him. So maybe it was because the Dragon God's Seeds turned into a comorbid Dragon Spirit with their already-there Human Spirit.
Settled with that answer, she turned and said, "Silver—"
Browns widened.
Silver looked at her with tears glinting from the moon's light. "Mistress?" he called in a barely-there breath. "I-I can't… I can't stop crying. And my hands…" Blues flicked to see his trembling fingers. "I can't stop shaking."
So I'm…not human at all? Then that means…I was never even their son? A chill went down his spine. He went numb. What…? What do I do now? What am I? Who…?
Lips threatened to bubble out a cry. "Mistress…" He looked at her, so lost, so numb. "Who am I supposed to be now?"
Browns glinted in sadness. Silver…
He put up no resistance when her hand came to bring him down for a comforting hug. Eyes wide and glossy, he felt stiff and numb even in the warmth of her arms.
"You are supposed to be my shield."
Blues sparked.
Ena kept a hand atop his head and stroked through his hair. "There's no need to cry or worry. All you are supposed to be is my most loyal shield and serve me well. Nothing will change that. So don't think by you being a mere Dragon will change your purpose is to serve me. You forget that I can turn you into whatever I desire. Dragon, human, pig—it makes no difference to me." She smiled as she held him. "Because you'll still be my faithful Silver for all time—always."
Blues watered. Mistress… He trembled as he slowly hugged her back and buried his head into her shoulder.
Ena lightly laughed hearing his sniffle. "What did I say about crying?"
"I'm sorry, Mistress," Silver mumbled.
Ena hummed. "I can forgive you for your tears this once. After all, I am a kind mistress."
Ocean and rain crept up her nose and set her heart at ease. He's still shaking. How foolish. She pressed her cheek against him. Silver, it doesn't matter to me what you decided to be. Because to me—her eyes opened, lashes low and an adoring sparkle in those browns—you'd still be someone I treasure the most.
She loosened her embrace when Silver pulled away from her, rubbing his nose. A flush became of him. "I'm sorry. I'm always crying in front of you."
"You are."
A depressive aura lingered around Silver. You don't have to agree so quickly.
"But that's okay." Ena thumbed his cheek. "It makes me happy to see every side of you. So don't hide your tears from me ever. That's not just an order. That's an ask from a friend."
Silver threaded his fingers with her as he smiled through his wet lashes. ''Kay."

Luna completed taking another shot of the night sky and looked down at her photo on the screen, proud of herself. These are coming out so well. With some editing, I'll have so many pictures to show Papa and Mama and Granny and…
Gentle rubies.
A fond smile worked its way onto her lips. Him too…
"Luna?"
Frowning, she turned around only to beam when she saw it was Aloha who called her from his blanket and a curious woman was with him. "Mister Aloha!" She came closer with Icarus keeping pace. "You came!"
Aloha looked flustered as he scratched his cheek. "I-I did. O-Oh! Luna, this is Jean. Jean, this is Luna. I accidentally ran into her at the center the other day."
"I see." Jean turned out to be a humble woman with voluminous black hair down and a hand band wrapped around it. Sure, her dark skin was beautiful and her earrings looked to die for, but what drew most people to her was the eye patch on her right eye. She gifted Luna a pearly-white smile. "It's nice to meet you, young lady."
⌜PALAKIKO MEDICAL CENTER
Name: Jean
Occupation: Wiccan Nurse Practitioner
Likes: beautiful things Dislikes: bright lights
Special Note: Jean's true age isn't even disclosed to her closest friends! I wonder why that could be… ⌟
Luna gave a wide smile back. "It's nice to meet you too, Miss Jean!" She snuck a flushed Aloha a teasing look. "So… Is this the beautiful lady you wanted to ask out?"
Poor Aloha looked so cutely flustered, but Jean took it in stride with a small blush and a genuine giggle. "He'd always run away from me whenever I tried to say, 'hello'," she told Luna. "I thought I smelled bad or something."
Aloha awkwardly laughed. "N-No, it wasn't that." I just thought I'd kill you if I stayed around you for too long. He fiddled with his fingers. "I'm sorry I gave you that idea. You don't smell bad. You smell really good—" But he had spoken verbosely and looked like steam would come out of his ears. "I-I just meant…! I…!"
"It's okay." Jean shyly looked at her lap. "Thank you, Aloha. You smell really good too."
Aloha gulped. "O-Okay."
Luna tried not to show how giddy she was as she watched the new couple, all blushy and bashful. Their emotions are so loud. It's so clear that they like each other! She cleared her throat. "So this is your first date." She showed her camera. "Do you want a photo?"
"O-Oh. No thank you." Jean's smile turned awkward. "I don't do well with flashes." Her fingers touched her eyepatch. "My right eye might have little light perception left, but my left eye is still sensitive. I got the short end of the stick with my eyes degenerating so early."
"Oh." Sympathy welled up within Luna. "I understand."
"But that's okay. I want to make sure I can see all the beautiful things I can before I go blind," Jean told her cheerily. "That's why I crushed so much on Aloha—because he's so beautiful."
Aloha's face burned red while Luna and Icarus sweatdropped. Well, Luna thought as she took in the cheerful Jean and ready-to-die Aloha, she's not wrong. Steering the conversation in a different direction, she mentioned, "Mister Aloha told me you're a nurse practitioner?"
"A Wiccan one, yes," Jean chirped. "Before that, I was a funeral director."
"O-Oh." Luna's eyebrow twitched. "I-Is that so?" Somehow, she and Mister Aloha seem like a perfect match now. She took stock that even Aloha saw the connection and looked like he was spiraling. He sees it too! "Well, sorry to interrupt. I'm just taking some pictures, but you two enjoy your date."
Aloha fumbled for a proper farewell. "Thank you. You too."
Luna and Icarus moved on, but Luna glanced over her shoulder. A nervous Aloha had moved a little closer and stumbled a little offering Jean a snack. Jean must have shown him gratitude and one bite had her brighten. Aloha looked a little mystified seeing how happy she was.
Mister Aloha… Luna turned away. I have a feeling you and Miss Jean will have a lifetime of happiness. She went back to set up for her next shot when a call buzzed from her Compact. She fumbled to answer it. "Hello?"
"Can't you greet me any sweeter?"
Luna playfully rolled her eyes as she let her camera hang from her neck to tend to the call. "Hi, Gale."
"Better," Gale teased her, though a little out of breath. "What's goin' on, Blondie?"
"Well, I was taking photos until someone ruined it."
Gale guffawed. "No need to be so cold, Blondie—Nnngh! Fuck!"
Luna paused, worried. "Gale? Is everything okay?"
It took Gale a moment to come back onto the line as he strained to assure, "S'all good, Blondie-girl, don't worry. I'm okay."
"But you sounded in pain," Luna pointed out, concern heightened.
Gale grunted again only to pantingly taunt her, "My pain comes from pleasure, Blondie."
Worry be damned. Rigid disgust filled her. "You're gross. I'm hanging up—"
"Wait, wait, c'mon, Blondie, don't leave a guy hangin'! Ah, shit, easy!"
Luna's annoyance dissipated once more. He really sounds in pain. "Gale, be honest with me. Are you hurt?"
A handful of beats.
"A little," Gale begrudgingly gave up. "But it's nothing bad. I, uh, got into a nasty fight with some punk ass. They fucked me up a little, but don't worry." A dark growl came out. "I made sure to give it back twice as hard. And I won."
That set aside a pinch of Luna's worry, but she gripped her camera. "Gale…"
"I'm fine, principessa," Gale promised her softly. "Don't you worry about me. You should see the other guy. But if you're that worried about me, you could, uh…gimme a li'l kiss on my—Gah! Goddammit, Lady J, are you trying to fucking kill me?"
Luna giggled. "Tell Julia I said hi."
"Oi, Lady J. She says stop dicking around with my injuries, you callous bitch."
She flat-out belly-laughed. "I didn't say that!"
Gale brokered a chortle. "Lady J says hi to you too." A beat. "And she wants to know how Silver's doing."
Luna's lips parted only to frown. Silver… She swung her gaze back up the hill. "He's—"
Chocolates glinted. He's…
Slowly, Luna put down her Compact to set up her camera to the hill. I don't think I have a good answer to that for you, Julia. But right now…
She messed with the focus to capture Ena gazing up at the stars while Silver looked at his mistress with all the adoration in the world. I think…he'll be okay.

One does not rudely wake up Ena Fernandes without meeting certain death. You wake her with grace, gentle soothes, maybe a nudge or two—
"Yeah, you makin' me a boy with luv…! Oh, my, my, my…! Oh, my, my, my…!"
—not loud Josean music.
Grumbling, Ena sat up and pushed up her gelled eye mask with circles under her eyes and her head throbbing from the music. What the Hell is going on?

It took her a moment to stagger out of bed and throw open the door. The music grew louder, but she saw Luna and Silver sitting around the coffee table with all their Young Nation merchandise around them. "What," she growled, "is going on?"
"Oh, Mistress!" Silver beamed. "You're up already!"
The flames of Hell spiraled around Ena, thirsty for blood. Why do you think I'm up? This was supposed to be the day I slept in.
"We're practicing our fan chants for the concert tonight," Luna told her as she put another pin on her lanyard.
Ena rubbed her temples. "The concert is not for twelve hours," she reminded. "You couldn't have waited until a decent hour for this nonsense?"
"We don't have much time though. You see…" Silver showed the itinerary on his Compact with a serious spark glinting off him. "We have a whole day packed and we're already five minutes late because Lulu got up late." He checked his schedule. "But you weren't supposed to wake up until ten-thirty, Mistress."
"Yes." Ena gripped Silver's shirt, fire in her eyes, while he nervously sweated. "I wonder why I awoke so early."
"I'm sorry, Mistress. If it helps." Silver peered up at her with comically desperate eyes, a warm flush, and a bit of drool. "Please punish me for waking you up early."
Don't make such a lewd expression! Ena let him go to cross her arms in a huff. "You know I don't appreciate being woken up this way. I will…"—her eyebrow twitched with how obscenely hopeful Silver looked—"not punish you since this is your first offense."
Depressed, Silver slumped onto the coffee table and drew circles. "Okay…"
You're making me feel guilty for not being a sadist! Ena coughed into a fist. "Anyway, if I'm already up, then I'm going to make a call, so lower your music."
"Sure," Luna caved. "Who are you calling?"
"Nora."
Silver stiffened. That bastard? In his head, a smirking Chibi-Nora mocked him.
Ena sighed as she touched her cheek. "I've felt like a bad friend to him. He's contacted me, but every time I mean to reply to him." Come to think of it, there seems to be a theme with that…
• — • — • — • — •
Ena perked when she saw a message drop from Compact. "Oh, it's Nora." She never noticed Silver going rigid as a small smile and a pretty pink touched her face when she tended to her Com. "I wonder what he wants—"
"Mistress!"
Ena started when Silver crowded her with an embrace and playful nuzzles. "S-Silver—!"
"Come play with me, Mistress!" he goaded. As Ena spluttered, she dropped her Compact to try and rid Silver from latching onto her.
And on another occasion…
Ena was about to bite into her breakfast when she saw her Compact light up with a message. "Nora?" Never did she see how stiff Silver got as she curiously picked up his Compact. "What does he—?"
"Mistress, let me feed you!"
Ena had no option when Silver swiftly stole her Compact to tempt her with a morsel of his steak. "What are you—?"
"Say, 'ah', Mistress!" Silver prompted.
Blushing, Ena allowed him to feed her without her seeing how Silver slipped her Compact away.
And on yet another occasion…
Ena came out as she dried her hair with Silver lounging on the bed. As she scrolled through her Compact, it surprised her when a notification came in. "Oh. It's Nora."
Silver went cold.
Ena knelt onto the bed as she tapped the message. 'Is he free? Perhaps I should call him—' But her thoughts were smacked away when she found herself pulled down onto the bed with Silver on top of her. "S-Silver—!"
"Mistress, I feel jealous right now," Silver murmured. "Please pity me a little." He kissed her forehead. "Okay?" He moved to nose her cheek. "Please, Mistress?"
"W-Wait, you can't just—!" CHU! "Silver, wait, this is inappropriate…" CHU! "I-I…" CHU! "I…suppose for a moment."
Defeated and dazed, she let go her Compact and failed to notice under all her embarrassment the triumph glint in Silver's eyes seeing her abandoned device.
• — • — • — • — •
Ena eyed a sweating Silver in suspicion. Has he been deliberately distracting me? She held onto her suspicion for a moment longer before she dismissed it (and Silver gave a quiet sigh of relief). No. He knows better than that.
"Well, anyway, I'm going to call him, so don't disturb me," she warned them both.
"KK!" Luna waited until Ena closed the door to sing to Silver, "I told you so."
A depressed Silver laid his head on the coffee table. "Shut up, Lulu."
He chewed on his thumbnail. What am I gonna do? I worked so hard so she wouldn't be swayed by that smirking jerk, but if I interrupt her this time, she'll know it was me! But I can't let her get seduced by him! He's a rich fuckboy! I won't let Mistress be swayed by him!
He sat up, determined. I can't let him bewitch her anymore! I have to protect her! It's my duty—!
Ena opened the door with a cold glare. "Silver, don't you dare come in here. If you dare try to interrupt my conversation"—her eyes misted with Magic—"I will never punish you again." And she shut the door again.
Silver looked frozen.
Luna was unbothered when a depressive Silver laid his head on the table again to draw circles. "Told you so."
"Shut up, Lulu."
"Nora, good morning."
Silver's ears pricked to listen in to Ena's conversation.
"Good morning, My Lady," Nora helloed. "Well, my morning wasn't that great, actually."
"No?" Ena sounded concerned. "What's wrong?"
"Oh, you'll find it absurdly cheesy, but… It wasn't that great because you weren't there."
Inwardly, Chibi-Silver messed with his Nora voodoo doll. I knew he was a fuckboy! Mistress, don't fall for it!
"Well, now, aren't you a sweet-talker?"
Chibi-Silver gawked, aghast. No, she fell for it! Silver face-planted onto the table with a dreary aura. Mistress, he's trying to bewitch you. Don't fall for him. Blues glinted, sad. Please don't fall for that knight, Mistress.
°•°•°•°
Ena smiled as she lay in bed with her Compact against her ear. "Should I repay the flattery with my own?"
Nora chuckled. "Well now, My Lady, you flatter me already. Hearing your voice so early in the morning means I was on your mind. And that in itself is great flattery to a man."
"Don't take it too heart too much," Ena cautioned good-naturedly. "I have a strong suspicion I've been neglecting you."
"And I have a strong suspicion as to why I've been neglected." Wryness caught Nora's voice. "How's your Silver? Should I expect him to barge in?"
Ena sighed as she fingered a lock of her hair. "No. I banned him from coming in until our conversation was over."
"Then I get to have you all to myself. I really am lucky man this morning." Shuffling. "Have you eaten yet, My Lady?"
"Not quite, but once I'm awake enough, I will," Ena determined. "And you?"
"I'll eat once I get back to the palace. Right now, I made it to my destination for my morning job, so I'll stay here and catch my breath for a bit. Which isn't working all that well."
Ena frowned. "Why?"
"Because you're stealing my breath away."
That made Ena curl up with a simper. "Did Tristan teach you to say that?"
"He has his uses. Admittedly, those two uses are seduction and knowledge, but he's still useful when he can be bothered to keep out of tabloids. I think this is the longest I haven't heard my mother tell me he's made it into some gossip column."
"Mm, that's a good sign." Ena's amusement withered into sobriety. Tristan will meet with me to explain his findings at Sylvie's debutante ball. However, with the realization my swords can transform into people, I wonder how much I'll learn.
"Ena?"
She perked. "Yes?"
"Is everything okay? Did you deal with Sky Adze go well?"
She sighed, adjusting her head. "The deal is finalized. My project will go off without a hitch and within the budget, so I can give my employees a bonus."
"And while that's all good news, you didn't answer my first question." Nora gentled his tone. "What's wrong, My Lady?"
She mulled over an appropriate answer. As much as it would be nice to confide in him, it's not just my secrets I'd be telling. And even with my own secrets, I want to speak with Mother first about what happened. But how to respond?
"If it's something you can't tell me over Com…might I suggest another private meeting?"
Ena grew taken aback. "Excuse me?"
"I know you have your Inter-Guild next week, but if you could lend me the time, I'd like to see you myself to make sure you're okay. Even if it's nothing more than a few moments."
Closing her eyes, a humored smile quirked her lips. "There you go with your sweet-talking again. There's no need for you to check up on me."
"I know, but… Truthfully, my request is much more of a selfish one."
That did not make sense to Ena. "In what way?"
"Well, to be blunt… I miss you, My Lady," Nora confessed. "I guess I was spoiled seeing you so often. There's merit in the saying absence makes the heart grow fonder after all."
Ena could not make a proper reply as her eyes shone. Nora… A bit of pink flushed her ears. "You know, you're a little too charming for so early, My Lord," she mumbled.
Nora freely laughed. "Forgive me, My Lady. I can't help it. I've missed your voice and have been deprived of your presence since all my messages have been conveniently unanswered. I'm not putting the blame on you. I'm guessing your Silver is much more charming than you anticipated."
Ena's face heated and weakly protested, "Th-That's not…" She sunk into her covers when Nora chuckled. "You're teasing me a little too much."
"You're easy to tease," Nora smoothly rebutted. "Though, it's much sweeter to tease you when I can see you blush—"
"I'm not turning this into a FaceCall."
"Fair enough," Nora supposed in good humor. "I hate to drag down such a delightful conversation down, but I wanted to know. Atticus—have you seen him around?"
Just as Nora adopted a dark tone, Ena's face had an edge to it. "No. But Silver and I are constantly on the lookout for him."
"And your third… She hasn't either?"
Ena hesitated. "She hasn't said anything, but we haven't made things explicitly clear for her." Browns saddened. "This is the first time she'd been out of the country. Leaving her home—it took weeks, months."
"I understand, but if it's taken her so long to come from her shell, she should know how to stay vigilant so she can safely explore," Nora quietly chided. "But you know her better than me, and I trust your judgment and Silver's. Just be careful. Atticus is not to be underestimated. And his interest in someone so many years his junior…"
Ena's stomach knotted. I know. And for Atticus to pursue this far… He's a society darling. As disgusting as it sounds, higher nobles with inappropriate and illegal tastes normally lived out their fantasy in secrets they took to their grave. But Atticus is different. He made his interest just enough before me so people thought he was curious. But his letter to me confirmed he wanted more from L.
She fisted her sheets. But what? And why? And how much longer will he go to reach her?
She told Nora, "I understand and have it handled."
"Understood." Some more shuffling. "But it still doesn't change that I'd like to see you."
Ena sighed. "I barely have a moment to spare. Inter-Guild is the day after I get home Sunday morning. If we met, I doubt I'd be in good company."
"Hm. Then will you allow me to pick you up?" Nora asked.
She closed her eyes with her lips twitching. "Are you that desperate to see me? Maybe you are greedier than I thought."
"When it comes to moments with you? I happily admit I'm a selfish man. So will you do me the honor?"
An exhale through her nose. "And what of Silver and my third companion? You'll drop them off as well?"
"If that's what you like."
"Really?"
Nora laughed hearing her flat tone of voice. "Of course. Make no mistake. I'm a selfish man, My Lady. But I know I have to share, even if it makes me all the more greedier." He added, wry, "As I'm sure your Silver can share than sentiment with me. We at least have that as a second thing in common."
Ena hmphed. "Of course. And the first?"
Five beats.
She frowned and prompted, "Nora?"
"My apologies, My Lady, but the first commonality is more of a gentleman's secret."
"I see." She gave a small huff as she pulled down her gelled eye mask. "Then I won't ask anymore."
"You're not curious?"
"How could a lady like me take interest in a gentleman's secret?"
Nora's grin was audible. "Don't be offended, My Lady. I couldn't bear if we parted on a sour note. Hearing your voice will give me all the energy I need until I see you Sunday."
"Nora…"
"Is that a 'yes'?"
Ena rubbed her temples. "If I didn't like you, your persistence would end up with a sword at your chest."
"You like me?"
Ena growled hearing Nora's amusement. "Stop teasing me!" She hated how hot her cheeks felt. Forcing out a breath, she compromised, "As I promised to take my third companion home, I'll have to have her input if she's comfortable with you taking us home. If she agrees, then I'll allow it. If she doesn't, then we can have another Com-call and I'll meet with you in May as we scheduled."
Two beats. "I understand."
That caught Ena by surprise. "Really?"
"Yes. I understand you have strong loyalty to your companion, My Lady. I won't challenge that or become offended. And to help alleviate her and your worries, I swear on my family's name I won't disclose any information regarding her and will keep my actions discrete," Nora vowed. "I'm sure you remember how those nobles were interested in your companion. Even without a title, her dancing and the background gifted to her made her prestigious. I know what's at risk. And I'll guard her secret too."
He thought about all of that? A bit touched, Ena murmured, "I understand. Thank you, Nora. I'll let you know what she says and…" She hesitated. "Well… If she disagrees…maybe I could give you a few minutes of my time, regardless." She hastily added, "But I'm sure it's not feasible to make the trip for something so minor—"
"You are not 'minor', My Lady," Nora corrected her firmly. "It'd be an honor to be in your presence for any amount of time to me. I had hoped you would know that. But I guess that means I'll have to try harder to convey that."
Ena drew up her knees, rosy and shy. "You tease me too much."
Nora hummed his mirth. "As I said before, you're easy to tease. But this wasn't me joking. I meant it." His voice lowered, dulcet. "I know our court companionship is for other reasons, but I plan to take my duties seriously and treat you as you were meant to be treated."
"And how is that?"
"With respect, with honesty, and…to be treasured like no other."
Properly taken aback, Ena could not say a word. Nora… Regaining some of her composure, she murmured, "Th… Thank you."
"Don't thank me, My Lady. Not for something as small as my words," Nora said. "I want my actions expressed to be recognized. You don't deserve false promises and I have no intention of making them."
Ena curled into her pillow and nodded. "All right."
"I'll let you go, My Lady," Nora told her. "And I'm eager for your reply."
All Ena could respond with was, "All right."
Nora's chuckle floated through the line. "Goodbye…Ena." The call ended.
Ena curled even more as she touched her chest. Nora… Her brow twitched with red freckling her face and she covered her lips. He really does tease me too much.
The morning had started with a bang. Akane's amusement park was open for business with hundreds queuing for a chance to ride the revamped twisted coaster that spiraled across the entirety of Akane's amusement park and hotel. The casino saw the early-comers hit the slot machines, and a few went to the card tables with their breakfast blend of tea, rum, or whiskey making the journey with them. The boardwalk had tourists moseying around for breakfast or to claim handsome spots on the beach before everyone else wizened up to do the same.

Nora looked at the blinking screen that told him his call with Ena had ended. See you soon, My Lady.
He tucked his Compact back onto his armband, but he did not leave yet. His morning route had taken him up a steep incline to clamor to the top. His hands had been chalked for the course and he had come prepared with his rucksack, but he wanted to enjoy the view a little longer.
And my oh my what a view it was.
The ocean sparkled like a jewel before it hid at the earth, and the dense forest filled with beautiful creatures had a few invaders thanks to the nature tours and climbing enthusiasts. With the sun in the sky, it felt like the world had fallen into step and breathed as a unit. The spring zephyrs tickled this high up, a tad chilly, as though to remind people spring did not forget her lover winter as easily and warming up to an aggressive lover like summer might take some time.
Some rudimentary noise did not bother Nora at first, but he recognized it was coming towards him.
"I didn't expect you"—Eros made it to the top—"to take this route." A little sweaty in his running gear, he looked like as a lieutenant should be—not out of breath and ready to tackle more ground.
The corner of Nora's lips quirked into a lopsided grin. "Yeah, well, I preferred the scenic route today," he reasoned.
Eros nodded to Nora's rucksack as he came to stand beside him. "Rucking?"
"Mm-hmm."
"I see." Eros took out his Latorade bottle for a few swallows. "If you ever get tired of training for the Holy Eye, you'll have my recommendation for wherever you wish to go. You're much more determined than some of my men."
Nora's remembered seeing Eros' men haggard and sweaty while Eros sparkled, unfazed. I don't think you realize your endurance isn't normal.
He nodded at the offer. "Thank you, but I plan to continue training with the intention of being a Holy Knight. I have to become one." Grayed yellows flickered. I have to.
Eros looked out to the landscape and echoed, "You 'have' to? I see." He capped his bottle. "You should know, Nora, that what you're doing could endanger your life gravelly. Becoming a Champion of the Church can be both a blessing and a curse. In its blessing, you will be instantly respected and want for nothing. But in its curse"—his eyes darkened—"you will become the Bishop of Stella's personal knight."
"I see," was all Nora responded with. He's not wrong. The Pope of the Holy Eye is said to be a man touched by the grace of the gods with a wisdom that knows no bounds and a beauty that captivates all. He's a public figure with international influence. And with his inclusive doctrine, it's hard to oppose a man of that caliber. That's why he has so many allies. Which means making him your enemy—his hand fisted—would mean certain death.
"But if you truly want to become a Champion of the Church…I will sponsor you."
Nora whipped Eros with a startled look. "Really?"
Eros nodded. "I spoke about it with your father when I asked his permission for you, Odette, and Sylvie to stay at the Saturnus residence," he informed. "When the Marchioness boasted you would become a Holy Knight, I had my concerns. Not because I thought you were incapable but because you shouldered such a burden alone."
He… Nora blinked. He called it a 'burden'?
"I was concerned you had taken on the weight of such a request alone," Eros continued. "You had a motive, of course, but I could see your drive would consume you if you handled it alone. But as I watched you, you steadily gained allies. You won the respect and loyalty of your staff. Your companion was carefully selected. And you have even befriended two powerful Mages. The look in your eyes when you told me you would become a Holy Knight changed from before. You didn't look so alone this time. You looked…happy."
'Happy'? Nora echoed as he looked out to the horizon. Is that what I looked like? Grayed yellows lowered. It's not like my time under the Marquis has been all that bad. I just considered everything a necessity. It was necessary for me to agree to my mother's requests. It was necessary for me to work if I wanted to survive. But happy?
He thought about the mornings he would spend with Meg and Carson arguing as Richard grew irate and Erica tried to play peacekeeper. He thought about all those times he and Tristan would sit on the large stone steps of their college with Tristan boasting about the newest vixen he had seduced. He thought about Odette's kindness and Sylvie's attitude she put on for show.
He thought about playing chess with his father.
And he thought about…
Flowing scarlet hair. Sparkling deep browns.
"Yes." Nora's soft smile reached his eyes. "I guess I am…happy."
"Good."
Nora winced when Eros' hand landed on his head, but he was disarmed seeing Eros' brotherly smile.
"Then I'll support and sponsor you as you become a Champion of the Church," Eros decided. "And if your Enchantress requires a sponsor as well, I'd be more than happy to. Since my knighthood is only recognized through the monarchy, I can't help you when it comes to the Holy Eye's plot without starting another holy crusade. But in sponsoring you, I can at least keep tabs on you. And I'll have the right to enter their grounds as your escort."
"And…my father knew about this?" Nora asked.
"He did."
As always, Father is sharp, Nora figured.
"But I need you to be cautious," Eros added, grave. "I'll remind you again that it's not just your life at risk infiltrating the Holy Eye. Anyone closely associated to you will be in harm's way. That goes for the Marchioness, that goes for Tristan…and that goes for your Enchantress. Are you sure this is the path you want to take?"
The path I want to take, huh? Grayed yellows glinted. For a long time, ever since I could remember, Mother told me I'd grow up to be a Champion of the Church. It was my fate, she told me, and it was my duty to repay the church for providing for me. But I never believed that. I never wanted to become Champion because I felt indebted to them. It was because I knew something was wrong with the Holy Eyes. Hands balled to fists. And because…I wanted to protect people from what the Holy Eye was plotting. I know it's not just my life on the line. But I can't stop now. So am certain this is the path I want to take?
Nora took a deep breath. Inhale. Exhale. "Yes. I am."
Resolved grayed yellows clashed with light green.
Eros studied him for a moment longer before pulling away. "Very well. Then I won't question you any further." He spared Nora a side-glance. He's certainly changed. He's not the same as before.
A lone child with dull grayed yellows.
Eros remembered, When I first met him, I could see he was a child who wanted to stand on his own two feet. He slipped into his role perfectly, but I knew it worried his father with how distant Nora was with other noble children. Odette helped when she could, but she could only help when she came home from boarding school on breaks. And Irina was too desperate to focus on high society trends and relationships to see her own son was alone. But now…
He recalled the carefree smile on Nora's face at the reception ball as he spoke with Beatrice with Ena on his arm.
Well… Eros smiled only just. It's a relief to know he's not alone. And that he can pursue his goal clearly. He lifted his chin as the wind messed with his hair. You would be so proud of him…Marchioness Moira.
It was ironic a city named after the eternal rain no longer had rain.
Traditional Cipangu influenced the entire village with restored minka complete with shōji (sliding doors) and a paradise of succulents, ivies, and bonsais. Zen gardens were popular places of peace and it was an honor to arrange them. Lanterns, signs, and even family plates with calligraphic Cipanguese characters were commonplace here. The bubble-stone pathways and flat stone streets accompanied manmade canals and moats. Some locals in the village chose to wear traditional yukatas to emulate traditional Cipanguese culture, but most of the younger generation and tourists came in modern clothes.

« This is Amefurashi Village, a town originally founded by Cipanguese immigrants, though its name was different back then. The name changed to Amefurashi when Juvia's severe depression in X792 caused an eternal rain. But Juvia and Gray helped work hard to restore Amefurashi after the war and now, it has become a popular tourist spot. »

The Fullbuster name carved in hiragana was pristine on a tower statue before the gates of the minka. The landscapers had made sure the lawn was up to snuff with the koi pond a healthy deep green and the fish curious about the infinity fountain. A little moat before the house had a bridge to get to the sliding front doors.

Juvia finished the light lunch she prepared in the minimalist kitchen, but she could not find it in her to be happy about her creations. Outside, she could see Gray and Gajeel sparring without Magic to help him. Both were mindful of the carefully-arranged landscape, but that did not mean they would not give it their all against each other. They would rather talk with actions instead of words.

Juvia sighed again.
"You've been sighing a lot."
Juvia looked to see Levy in a lounge yukata, and she harbored a weak smile. "Juvia is sorry." She decided to pour out drinks. "Juvia feels a little listless today." Once she completed her task, she watched Gray and Gajeel break it up to reset for their next match. "Juvia sees so much of Gary in her Beloved Gray."
"I know." Levy came to stand with Juvia, smiling like a fool seeing her husband all shirtless and sweaty. "It's scary how much Gale and Gajeel are similar. Gajeel swears he wasn't as hard to handle as Gale is when he was a teenager, but I'm pretty sure he's lying."
Juvia simpered. "Gajeel was just as moody as Gale. When Gajeel met Juvia, Gajeel made all sorts of rude comments about Juvia making it rain."
"Yeah, I figured he didn't have tact back then either," Levy sighed, shaking her head. "Sorry for coming back to the house so late." Hazels dimmed. "Galileo got approval from Erza to take a leave of absence from the guild after he finishes his S-Class assignment. He said he'll visit Doctor Stein before he anything, but I can't help but worry about him."
Juvia spared Levy an empathetic look. "Will Galileo join Olivia in Wu Xing?"
"I'm not sure," Levy said, honest. "But I know staying in Magnolia isn't an option for him." She leaned against the counter with her hands tucked into her sleeves. "I know I don't have the right to be upset, but…it feels like I'm losing all my children so soon."
Juvia rubbed Levy's shoulder and murmured, "Juvia understands."
"I know." Levy laid her hand atop Juvia's for comfort. "I know you want nothing more than for Silver to talk to you, but I think this makes the most sense right now. If you push him too hard too soon, it could end badly."
"Juvia knows," Juvia remarked, sad. "But as Levy said, Juvia feels Juvia is losing all of Juvia's precious children." Ocean blues shone. "Juvia remembers those sleepless nights when Gary moved away. It was hard for all of Juvia's family to see Gary leave. But Silver…" She briefly closed her eyes. "Gary and Julia have always been so independent. Juvia knew that. But Juvia's precious Silver was different. And now he's slipping away too…" Her hand trembled.
Levy turned to face Juvia. "He might drift away for a little while, but it won't be forever, Juvia." Her smile tinged in a sad nostalgia. "When Emma left, I was so convinced she would come home. That she wouldn't be gone for long. But in the end…she didn't. And it took me a while to realize Emma wasn't the type of person to come home. It still hurts, but it's something I should've realized sooner. But Silver is different. Right now, he's hurting and he's not ready. But he's the type of person to come home because he's just like his mom."
"Juvia hopes so," Juvia whispered, clearing away a stray tear. "Juvia knows Juvia and Gray have so much to tell Silver, and Juvia is worried Silver…won't trust Juvia and her Beloved Gray anymore."
"I hope it doesn't come to that," Levy told her. "It'll be a shock to him, I'm sure. You can't blame him for being shocked. But all he needs to hear from you is that you and Gray love him. You're his parents. His birth was unusual, but he's your son and you adore him. He never grew up knowing all this like Igneel and Gale did."
Juvia sniffed. "Does Levy get jealous of Gale's Dragon mother?"
"A little," Levy confessed. "She can provide something I can't. For that part of him, I can only be a bystander while he grows with her help. It's never a good feeling, but I'm learning to accept it. He needs Sycaña to show him that part of himself."
She sighed. Just as I'm sure Igneel found Ignia to show him that part of himself. I know it worries Lucy with what happened last time, but Igneel's grown. He'll understand how to handle Ignia this time.
"Juvia hopes Gale goes easy on Silver," Juvia prayed, though she did not seem all that convinced her hope would come to pass. "Gale could help Silver adjust, but…"
"Yeah, I know…"
Levy and Juvia thought about the way poor Silver looked terrified at the prospect of being Gale's opponent. Gale doesn't have the nicest temper when it comes to Silver.
Levy laid a hand on her cheek. "I keep telling Gale to be nicer, but he always tells me he is being nice. Honestly. At least with Igneel, Gale knew how to watch himself. But Silver is just so sensitive that it makes me feel bad for him whenever he and Gale are together."
A dreary aura loomed when she remembered the way Chibi-Silver would cry when Gale dragged him away for "cousin bonding". If I'm raising an evil genius, I don't know what I'll do.
Juvia giggled a little. "Juvia is happy Silver and Gary and Julia have cousins. Juvia always wanted a big family." She pouted. "If only Gary and Ultear and Linus got along too, but Juvia and her Beloved Gray want Gary to have his own relationships with his family."
"Right." Hazels sparkled. There was one person in the family Gary got along with, but… Her hand pressed her stomach. It's impossible now.
"Levy?"
She was startled seeing Juvia's concern and gave an awkward smile. "I'm fine, Juvia, don't worry. Just lost in thought for a second." An actual thought occurred to her. "I'm thinking about the summer. A lot of changes will be happening." She helped gather the drinks on a tray while Juvia handled the food. "Gale accepted his TA position at Saint Layla's." She shook her head in amusement. "Anna and Lucy gave approval for him to be RA of the summer dorms. He doesn't know when to give up."
Juvia tittered. "Juvia finds it romantic. But it'll be good for Luna to have a familiar face. Juvia knows Luna was very sad for a while."
"We were all so worried about it," Levy agreed. "I know she might not like it, but I'm glad Gale will be there for her just in case."
Though… She sweatdropped remembering a terrified Gale listening to every rule Natsu listed for him. Natsu made sure Gale understands his role is as a protector and not a suitor.
"Juvia is excited for Ena," Juvia enthused. "Silver told Juvia about all Ena's fashion weeks and Juvia is so proud of Ena!" She had a devious glint in her eye. "And Juvia is also happy of all the photos Luna has taken of Juvia's precious prince and Ena."
Levy sweatdropped at the smug aura around Juvia. She and Erza are really invested in this. She took hold of the tray. "They used to fight like cats and dogs. I was surprised seeing how much has changed. Silver seems very devoted."
Juvia puffed her chest, proud, and took her own tray. "Silver says he wants to be Ena's house husband and Juvia believes in him! Silver would make a great house husband!"
Levy laughed. "Of course he would, Juvia." As both women went to the back door, Levy recalled, "I remember when Silver and Gale were little. There was that daycare we tried for him, Gale, and Julia at the time when we couldn't find a sitter. Getting that call that Julia and Gale started a fight was mortifying. Poor Silver looked in near-tears."
"Juvia remembers." She chuckled to herself. "Julia said they got into the fight because of a few mean boys picking on Silver. But Juvia's precious prince was so scared of how aggressive Gale had gotten. Poor Gale. He looked so betrayed."
"I know." Levy opened the door for Juvia. "It's just like with Igneel and Gale." Once Juvia was through, she followed outside. "At first, I thought it was a little cruel of Igneel with some of his words. It took Gajeel to open my eyes to what Igneel was doing. Gale can deny it all he wants, but I know he admired Igneel a little. It was easier for me to see what Gale was doing for Silver. Although…"
She hung her head recounting all the times Gale gawked, fresh from a fight, when Silver fled and pled for his life to be spared, not at all seeing how comically b how betrayed his cousin looked. I don't think Gale realized how terrified he made Silver whenever he picked fights with people.
Gray and Gajeel stopped their fight when they saw their respective wives on the porch. Gajeel wiped sweat from his brow with a cocky grin when Levy seemed focused on his chest and abdomen. "Take a good look, Shorty. This is all yours." He finished drying off with a raised eyebrow. "And I'll look like this tonight for you too."
"Don't be gross, asshole," Gray grunted while Levy flushed. "Why the Hell did I have to share my house with you?"
"Don't be like that, Ice Queen." Gray looked disgruntled when Gajeel hooked him under his arm. "If you're that jealous Shorty gets to see this tonight, I could make arrangements—"
"Get the fuck off me," Gray growled, shoving a guffawing Gajeel away. He stalked away and controlled his ice from freezing Gajeel. "Levy, next time, you are more than welcome to stay with us, but put your dog on a leash." He smiled at Juvia and pecked her lips.
Gajeel called, "How do you know I don't already have a leash!"
The look on Gray's face was enough to make Levy burst into laughter. "Gajeel! If you get kicked out, I'm not following you."
"You're such a little traitor," Gajeel growled playfully as he prowled towards his wife. "A cute traitor"—his hand slid down her back—"with a cute—"
BAKI!
Gray exhaled frost with his hand still in a fist. "That felt better."
"Ow!" Gajeel cupped his cheek with a scowl towards Gray. "Jackass. Use your words, Fullbuster." He smirked. "But it's hard for emo boys like you to actually communicate."
TICK!
Juvia smiled despite Gray looking like he could kill Gajeel. "Juvia prepared lunch for everyone! Juvia and everyone should eat." Her smile sharpened towards Gajeel when he opened his mouth. "Juvia insists Gajeel not say anything that sounds inappropriate of Juvia will make Gajeel rust."
Gajeel scowled, but he would not defy her. "Whatever."
As everyone settled on the porch, Gray asked, "Where's Panther Lily, anyway? I thought he wanted to train too."
Gajeel grunted as he sat. "Said he had some personal shit to take care of."
"I guess he had been putting it off for a while," Levy explained as she handed out drinks. "But he said he wanted to get started on whatever it was he needed to. He wouldn't tell us the details, but he promised he'd be home soon."
As conversation was easily had, Gajeel preoccupied himself with his drink. Lily… So… You're really going to sniff her out after all this time, huh?
As though his question was heard, a blackbird with white wings flew overhead with its orange-feathered mate.

And that night…

• — • — • — • — • — • — • — • — •
If you have never been to a Young Nation concert, it was organized chaos.
With the sun erased from the sky and deep blues and the moon filling in, the covered stadium looked like it was welcoming royalty with the flashing lights and the large Lacrima billboards showcasing the seven Josean members of Young Nation promoting Permission to Dance. A blimp passed by with a Lacrima billboard showing a commercial for Young Nation's Permission to Dance tour as the members danced to Butter.

« The Sky Arena is the largest stadium and entertainment complex in Caelum. Before, it hosted gladiator tournaments, and Wizard and Tamer battles. Now, the Sky Arena is home to the MagiCross team, the Caelum Night-Marchers, and other prominent teams. The Sky Arena has hosted the past GSF opening and closing ceremonies, will host the X8XX MagiCross World Cup, the X8XX IFF World Cup, and now is hosting Young Nation's Permission to Dance tour. »

Anyone who was anyone had flocked to the floating stadium they poured in from tram lines and bridges. Tickets out and ready, most who had come were decked in the paraphernalia of their bias member with their light bombs at the ready for a night of fan chanting and stanning. Security looked alert with the concession and merchandise stands hurrying to replenish as wave after wave of fans hit to cram in their purchases before subjecting themselves to an entire night of inspirational music and dance.
Because inside the main stadium…

"Live" was Young Nation's secondary theme for their tour, and they made sure to bring along live musicians to carry the show forward. Thousands of light bombs pumped the air with fans from across the world gathered in celebration of the seven young men on stage.
As a popular whistle came on, the crowd echoed in chant: "Kim Koya! Kim Jinnie! Min DT! Jung Mickey! Park Mochi! Kim Yeontan! Jeon JJ! Young Nation!"
Tan started the song as the group spread out for their dance: "Cheonnune neol araboge dwaesseo…!" His wink at the camera had everyone go wild. "Seorol bulleowatteon geotcheoreom…!"
The crowd pumped their light bombs with the fan chants in harmony.
And Luna and Silver were among them in the standing pit.
Ena could not stop smiling as Silver and Luna squashed her between them and looked like certified stans, considering Luna's giant camera and all the fanwear they had brought with them. The energy was electric between fans and all seven Young Nation artists and no matter where a person looked, they could always spot a citizen of Young Nation engrossed in the epic performance.
Ena could not help feeling the joy spill into her as Silver and Luna bounced her around while they poured their hearts out into the fan-chant. So, this is what a concert is like. It's not like I haven't been to one, but it's been nothing like this. And this is L's first concert. I'm happy I could make her wish of seeing Young Nation a reality.
The hype among the crowd superseded the chaos sports brought to the table, especially when the fans treated their worshipped artists and each other with utmost respect. No one shoved or cheered too obnoxiously. It was as though everyone coordinated how to behave, even though thousands of them had swarmed the Sky Arena.

Everyone lost their minds when the Lacrima Screen showed the loud and proud Jovon dressed in promiscuous pink taking the stage with her Microphone Lacrima and she started rapping her verse: "Ayy, so smooth like the car I ride! Even ya best party planner couldn't catch this vibe! Big boss, and I make a hater stay on they job! And I be on these girls necks like the back of they bobs!"
Ena politely clapped along, more amused Silver and Luna were screaming with everyone's light bombs turning pink to honor the guest artist. If Compacts had not been taken out, others scrambled to catch on video Butter's remix having its first live performance.

Ena laughed when Luna tried to get her to rock to the beat as the dance break broke out with the crowd going crazy over Mickey, JJ, and Mochi's dance. Already, it was easy to tell the number of fan cams that would splurge the LacriNet come late tonight. Luna made her bias shown as she screamed with other Jinnie-stans when he left the second dance between him and the rest of the members.

It was hard not to dance to a song so upbeat.
Many in the audience had taken to bouncing to the beat. Those with front row seats in the wings of the stadium had much more space to jam to the pop song. Jovon had joined Young Nation as she hyped up the song with her tongue out and her eyes aglow.

Applause and cheers reverberated the Sky Arena as confetti canons charged off. Even Jovon looked charmingly flustered these Young Nation ARMY seemed to be her Hotties as well!
Ena told both friends over the roar of the crowd, "I have to use the bathroom!"
"Now?" Both Luna and Silver looked at her like she was crazy.
"Yes." Ena rolled her eyes. "Now." She pulled away from them. "I'll be right back—!"
"No!" Luna latched onto her. "If you try to get out, getting back in will be impossible." She glanced around before she decided, "Since we came early enough for me to know where the hallways and bathrooms are, I'll teleport you there. Just text me once you're finished and I'll come back for you."
Silver snickered. "Talk about an abuse of power, Lulu."
"Jinnie is setting up for Epiphany thanks to the soundcheck leak we saw," Luna argued. "And that's my song and I'm not missing Worldwide Handsome Jinnie up close."She looked at Ena. "Are you ready?"
Ena nodded, tickled about the situation. "Of course." She looked at Silver. "I'll be back."
"Sure." Silver glanced away when Luna and Ena disappeared (and a few fans gawked). It took seconds later until Luna reappeared and he lent her his arm to keep her steady. "Is the line long?"
"Not really since no one in their right mind would go to the bathroom using a Young Nation concert," Luna said, tone dry, and she switched her Compact onto ⟪ Vibrate ⟫. "Only E would do that."
Silver laughed and put his arm around her shoulders. "She would. How are you liking your first concert?"
"It's like a dream!" Luna told him, resting her head against his shoulder. "I can't believe my first concert is here. Now the bar has been set so high for any other concert I go to." Her shoulders relaxed. "This feels like just what we needed."
"I know what you mean," Silver agreed. It's been such an exhausting couple of days when we were supposed to be on vacation. But now, it feels like we can actually enjoy ourselves in Caelum. I wish feelings like this could last forever. He kissed Luna's forehead. "Thanks for coming with us, Lulu. Really. We were so worried you'd say, 'no'."
Luna hummed. "To be honest, if anyone else asked me, I probably would have said, 'no'. It's just…hard for me to feel safe, y'know? But when I'm with you and with E, it feels like I can do a lot more than just stay in my room all day."
That warmed Silver from the inside out. "I'm happy to hear that. Honest." I'm happy that she doesn't feel as sad anymore. Maybe she has her moments, but… The world feels better now that she's smiling again.
The stage darkened and the intro to Epiphany began on the Lacrima Screens while the lights on the stage subtly glowed. Everyone hollered and screamed seeing Jinnie in the black and white intro, listlessly staring out of the window to watch the rain.
"I know I say it a lot, but I'm really glad you and E get along," Luna murmured to Silver. "All I wanted was for you two to be friends for so long. I know I couldn't force it to happen, but I still hoped. And now you love her."
"Shut up," Silver chuckled, nudging her. "It's hard not to." Blues gentled. "She's an amazing person. I just wish…I didn't waste all that time and realized it sooner."
Two beats.
"She… She knew you needed water when you were sick."
Silver frowned, puzzled. "Huh?"
"Well…" Luna slightly pulled away to look up at him. "E… I think she always knew you needed water whenever you were sick or panicked. I know it sounds crazy, and she won't really confirm it, but…" She wetted her lips. "Remember when we were little, and you got ridiculously sick during that storm?"
Silver warily nodded. "Yeah. You put me in the bathtub and I felt better soaking for a while, why?"
"Well…" Luna revealed, "It wasn't me who came up with the idea… It was E."
Blues widened. What?
The crowd screamed when the intro was finished and spotlights came up as Jinnie was lowered with his ivory grand piano on a platform. The strings kept up with him as he started his musical introduction to his song dressed in his loose suit and a flower crown. Light bombs swayed in the air as ripples of blues passed through the audience.
Jinnie crooned, "Cham isanghae… Bunmyeong na neoreul…neomu saranghaetneunde…"
Silver could barely pay attention to the song as his thoughts went on the fritz. That… That doesn't make any sense. She told me Lulu told her about putting me in the water. But if Lulu learned it from Ena because of that incident, was it just a coincidence? It's not like it's uncommon for Elemental Mages to be with their element when they're sick, but it's not common knowledge when you're little. Why would she…?
Jinnie sustained his chord before he sweetly sang the chorus, "I'm the one I should love in this world…! Bitnaneun nareul sojunghan nae yeonghoneul…!"
VRRRRT!
Luna checked her Compact. "That's E. She's done." She wanted to sob. And Jinnie just started his chorus too! She told Silver, "I'll be back soon." And she disappeared.

Silver remained rooted in his thoughts, blindsided. I don't… I don't understand this. I mean, I was just sick, right? She didn't have any motive to help me back then. We hated each other back then. But…
"You'll be okay, shhh." A bleary focus could see deep browns trying to remain calm as watched rhythmically blanketed the gills on his neck. "You'll be okay."
That took Silver back. And the other day…when I couldn't breathe… She didn't panic at all. I know she keeps a cool head during a crisis, but… How did she know putting water on my neck like that would help me breathe? How could she know all that? It doesn't make sense. So how…?
Luna and Ena shimmered back to the pit, and Luna announced, "We're back! Now!" Already she was tearing up with her light bomb in the air. It's time to worship my bias!
Ena puffed a chuckle. That didn't take long. She could Silver's far-away look and worried. What's wrong with him? Her hand reached to touch his cheek. "Silver?"
He turned—
Jinnie had gotten up from his piano and belted out, "I'm the one I should love in this world!"
The crowd surged, screaming—
Blues focused on Ena as her lips moved, her words drowned out—
• — • — • — •
A blurred focus struggled to keep open as a shadowed little girl hovered over him. Coolness touched his neck to negate the burning in his throat and chest. Her lips parted, but the focus could not make out her direct words under the strain. But she moved closer—
"Paige!" A distant shout and the crash of the underbrush. "Paige!"
The girl pulled back as the focus felt too heavy to remain open. But in her shifting, a lock of scarlet fell across her cheek—
• — • — • — •
Realization clicked.
Jinnie lifted his head as the bridge came along and he sang, "Jogeumeun mungtukhago bujokhalji molla… Sujubeun gwangchae ttawin an boilji molla…"
Ena frowned as the noise died down and Silver stared at her with his expression masked. "Silver? Everything okay? Are you sick?"
He could not hear her questions. He could not hear anything as he stared at his Enchantress, his mistress, his first love—his savior. Tentatively, his hand came up to touch her cheek as though fearful she would disappear like his memory. It… It can't be… I was so sure… I was so certain… But all this time, it was really…
The words escaped before he could stop them, "You're my savior."
"What?" Ena felt justified in her bewilderment. "I think that's a stretch, Silver. I'm no one's savior unless you consider me a fashion savant, then I wouldn't disagree with you, no." She eyed him, cautious. "Are you sure you're all right?"
Silver rapidly blinked as an unexpected breathless laugh passed his lips. "Y-Yeah. Yeah, I'm…I'm fine."
"Good, because it wasn't easy to get tickets like these, so you better enjoy this and be grateful your mistress is kind, rich, and connected," Ena told him as she haughtily flicked her hair. "I'll have you know I'm on good terms with their costume designers since Gigi and I did them a service last year for their Map of the Soul tour, so I asked them…"
The smile on Silver's face felt surreal, but he could not help it as he watched Ena. All this time, you never corrected me. You never said anything. I chased after the wrong person for four years because of my shitty memory. I fought you and called you names, but you still never said anything. Part of me wants to confront you, but I know you'll deny it. Because that's just the sort of person you are.
Blues sparkled. I wasted so much time being infatuated. But maybe I needed to learn the difference.
• — • — • — •
"Being infatuated doesn't require any thought."
In the heart of Magnolia Town, Elvin stood before the focus, thoughtful. "It's like love at first sight. You think they're perfect just because. And you don't let yourself be yourself around that person. Because they're perfect, you want to be perfect too."
• — • — • — •
That's right. Blues flickered. When I was infatuated, I never showed Paige anything other than what I wanted people to see. I just felt so ashamed. I didn't love any part of me. I thought if I fixed myself, I could have friends.
All he could remember was how lonely it felt when the roughhousing boys of his youth criticized and mocked him and the girls were no better. He stood alone while others ventured to make like-minded friends. But it changed when he buried his knitting and embroidery and threw away all his make-up and headbands in exchange for lacrimagames and sports.
But…I was wrong. There are people who love me for me and don't mind that I'm not perfect.
The best memories he had were staying with Gary in his penthouse studio and how much he blushed when Gary proudly praised him for his make-up. Luna held nothing back whenever she rushed him for a hug when he gifted her his first knitted blanket. But others had been supportive too. He remembered Sunday nights with his mother and his uncle when they would wear face masks, and he and his mother would knit while Gajeel complained about whatever show they watched. Or when he was embarrassed as sin his father caught him meddling with make-up only to feel so relieved when his father never mocked him, but he gave him more supplies.
I'm not strong like Gale and Julia and Gary. I cry a lot. And I'm not that confident. But I hid it all because I thought no one would love me any other way. And then…
It felt like a lifetime with the months of memories he had with Ena. Witnessing her irritation towards him as she threatened him with her blade. The way she would nod off only to wake up and blame him, flustered she had been caught. But the happy looks she made when she tasted his newest dish. And the softer and kinder expression she gave him when her eyes would sparkle and her damn smile made him melt.
There was someone like you who didn't care I cried a lot. You didn't like the person who tried to fit in. You liked all of me.
The scent of rosemary and warmth. "Because you'll still be my faithful Silver for all time—always."
Silver could not hold back any longer.
Ena had turned to Luna, but she started when Silver hugged her from behind, something fierce. "S-Silver—!"
"Please. Let me hold you."
Ena froze at the pleading request. With nothing to fight it with, she relaxed and consented, "All right. For a little while."
"Thank you, Mistress." Silver's lashes fell. This feeling… It's so strange. I didn't just start falling in love with you. I'm starting…to fall in love with the person I always was too. Is this what it means to love a person? That you don't have to be perfect? That you want to show them every side of you…and you want to embrace that side just as much as you hope they do?
"The thing is, to me…" Elvin's voice spoke in his mind. "The love that sticks around is the love you work at and fight for—or, well, at least for my sisters. The easy love isn't really love. It's just infatuation, and that doesn't do anything outside of wasting your time."
Silver considered such advice. Maybe if I had known you saved me all those years ago, Mistress… Maybe I would've fallen in love with you back then. But I don't think I was ready to love you like this back then. I didn't love even myself back then. Maybe being infatuated wasn't a waste of time if it taught me how to love like this.
As the well of the final chorus poured in, Jinnie gave his heart and soul into his final lines. "Ah…! Ah…! Ah-ha…! I'm the one I should love…!"
"Mistress?" Silver breathed into her neck.
Ena could feel gooseflesh on her arms. "Hm?"
"I've decided something."
"Oh? And what's that?"
Two beats.
"That I'm going to work hard to love myself properly."
Deps browns widened before shimmering. "Yes." She closed her eyes and leaned against him. "That's a wise decision indeed."
"I know I won't always love things about myself," he continued, "but I know love's a commitment and it's something I have to fight for. I'm going to fight for myself."
Oh, Silver. Ena placed her hand atop his. "That sounds wonderful. If you're looking for my approval, you have it. And I'll support you until the end. What are friends for?"
"I know." Silver tightened his embrace on her. Mistress… I'm going to work hard to love you properly too. It's not just because you're my savior from all those years ago. It's because…there's no one else I'd want to fight for. I'm sorry for making you wait all this time. But I'm going to make it up to you and be someone you can depend on. I promise.
His lips parted. "Mistress?"
"Hm?"

His lips moved.
Ena froze. Disbelief held her eyes before they glinted and lowered. Silver… Her lips pressed together as the corners of her mouth twitched. When she shifted, Silver loosened his arms around her only to cup her cheeks and wait.
Ena's eyes went to the side, but she gave him a tiny nod.
And as Luna swung her camera to capture the crowd, instead her lens showed her soft kiss Silver and Ena shared with the lights of the ARMY light bombs surrounding them.
She could not help it when her thumb pressed down.

On Tenrou Island…

The focus wandered aimlessly through all the leaves and bushes. The sun blinked through the canopy and the chitter-chatter of the animals put her at ease, but she felt like time stopped in a place so whimsical. She could float through the forest paying no mind to anyone else—
"Help!" A woman's cry. "Someone, help me, please!"
The focus skittered through the forest as the howls for help were mixed with the wrathful tides and the grating push and pull. The focus breached from the forest to realize sand had swallowed dirt and eaten away at the grass. It was too late for her to realize she had made it all the way to a beach and far from her camp.
"Help me, please!"
The focus swiveled onto two people. A woman was the first person she noticed, but she did not look human. Water fashioned her body and she was chained to the ocean, unable to walk upon the damp sand even as she desperately wanted to. But the other person looked small as they convulsed and croaked on the wet sand like a seizure had taken over them.
The focus hesitated.
"No, please, help us!" the woman begged. "Help me! Please! He won't last long! I'm begging you!" She broke down to her knees as she wept. "Save him! Please! He'll die!"
That made the focus shed their hesitation to come closer. The small person was none other than a little boy with soaked blue hair. But something about him differed from her. Webbing blossomed between his hands and his feet looked more like fantastical fins. A blue hue glinted from his skin and agitated giggles flexed as he tried to breathe.
He could not breathe.
The woman hurriedly introduced, "You need to put water over his gills. He can't breathe right now. Please—please—help us!"
The focus did as asked, though haltingly. Her powers sifted out as she put forth a hand and commanded a steady branch off of water to come to her aid. The stream of water each into the air to make a faucet for her. Once her cupped hands filled with water, she was careful in bathing this boy's gills in it. He choked and hacked, but she did not run away like a scared child. She kept her ministration, partly curious as she watched all the aquatic oddities about him slowly fade for more humanistic traits.
The woman sighed with relief. "He's changing—oh thank the gods. It's working. Keep going, please. He's almost there."
So the focus continued to fill water in her hands and lathered the boy's gills. The more repetitions she committed, the more she could see this boy was a human like her, even if she found his blue hair weird. That was why it surprised her when his eyes fluttered as though he was trying to open them—
And all she saw were beautiful blue eyes.
His lips moved as he gurgled, trying to speak.
She did not know what compelled her, but she told him, "It'll be okay." And she continued pouring water over his closing gills—
"Paige!" someone bellowed, panicked and nearby. "Paige!"
The focus jolted and abandoned her spell. Fear poured into her and she missed whatever that Water Woman meant to say when she ran away from the scene. But when she glanced back, it amazed her the Water Woman easily became one with the ocean after a parting glance at the boy on the sand. Worried but frightened, the focus swung back around as she crashed back into the forest—
"There you are!"
Her brother seized her with his hands on grabbing her arms. It did not surprise her as much as scared her to see him with a little sweat across his brow and his scarlet hair a little damp. He looked out of breath as though he had been running kilometers on end, but she could not figure out the emotions in those dark oak eyes of his.
He gripped her harder. "You can't just wander off like that! You're still so weak!" He looked irritated, she decided, when she saw his brow furrow. "Why can't you understand that? Mom doesn't need the stress from finding out someone as weak as you went through a forest full of monsters. No one would have come to save you. Don't you get that?"
He gritted his teeth. "Why can't you just be stronger? Why do you have to be so weak?" He lifted his chin with his eyes dark as coal. His annoyance mixed with something else she could not recognize. "Why did it have to be you?"
And in that moment, she could see herself in the reflection of his glasses with her red hair a mess and her eyes void of much emotion. "I'm sorry…"—the focus fell as she hid back every emotion like it was a reflex—"Mystogan."

THE FIRST KISS CAN BE AS TERRIFYING AS THE LAST
A video of Chibi-Luna in her teacher's get-up and classes pops onto the screen as she sits in front of her desk with papers neatly stacked. "Hello and good day, class! I decided to do a pre-recording of today's Fairy Lesson since I have an appointment to make! So let's get to it! So our lesson of the day is…"—she flips one of her papers to show the title—"sponsorship!"
She shows her next large card to show the guild insignias of as many guilds as she could fit. "Sponsorship is a new concept that came about over two decades ago," she informs. "It came from how athletes are sponsored but in a different light. Of course, guilds can agree to have sponsorships and brand deals, but so can individual Mages!"
Chibi-Luna flips to another card to show a smiley face with a Fioren jewel symbol, a shirt, boxing gloves, and a drink and nutritional bar drawn around it. "Sponsorships might look easy in theory, but there's a lot to consider for individual Wizards when taking sponsorships. When someone sponsors you in sports, it could mean they choose a diet for you, clothing for you, or even a training regimen.
"But Wizard sponsoring is different. Sponsors can request logos to be worn during official matches like in the GMGs, but it also permits sponsors to fund for schooling or projects the Wizard decides to do and even opens up international opportunities for Wizards to do special assignments!"
She winces. "Though the Magic Council made a universal rule with Wizard sponsorships since too many Spiritless were involving themselves in the Magic Community. When a sponsor agrees to a deal with a Wizard, they also agree to handle a specific percentage of reparations the Wizard causes. The Council hoped it would deter Spiritless sponsors from having a stake in our community. It did lessen the insane amount of people eager to sponsor Wizards, but it didn't necessarily kill the industry."
She flips to another card to show multiple social media apps. "For Wizards in the Current Era, social media is a big deal for promotion and fan interaction. Sponsors can still make deals that require Wizards to post pictures with whatever brand name, but they have to negotiate with guild barristers on that subject."
She sighs. "All in all, the Council is still trying to limit Spiritless intervention in Wizard lives, but I don't think we'll be losing our sponsors any time soon!" She straightens out all her cards. "That concludes our Fairy Lesson of the day! Any takers on who The Conspirator is? The Underground has been mentioned once before, but we're excited to show you more about the Underground—"
CRASH!
A door slams open. "Knock, knock. Time for your appointment."
Chibi-Luna sweats as she waves her hand. "Wait, wait, I still have more time—Oh!" She clings to the desk once she's thrown over a shoulder and hurriedly spews, "If you're an ARMY, we hope you recognized the significance behind each member's Young Nation name! Miss Author wanted to say the next chapter might be delayed since she is going into surgery soon, so we apologize—Gale, put my down!"
"Not a chance, Blondie."
Chibi-Luna huffs, dismayed. "Then get me close to my camera so I can turn it off!" Once she's closer, she whispers, "Next time, on Fairy Adventure, let's see what repercussions happen because of one kiss! Okay, bye!" She fumbles with her camera and the frame jolts. "Gale, hold still!"
"Fine."
Chibi-Luna looks scandalized when he sets her on the desk, but Chibi-Gale's back covers the screen. She splutters, "H-H-Hold on—!"
"Wait." Chibi-Gale looks back with a wink. "Sorry. I need to steal your teacher away." He messes with the camera. "Time to treat her like a princess!"
"Gale—!"
The camera shuts off.
The students watching the video (a sleeping Chibi-Luke is their substitute) sweatdrop. Teacher has a bad taste in men…
