Sorry for dropping off the face of the Earth. In other news, I've almost finished a Narnia fanfic if you're into that.
Lizzy took off running after Owen, and didn't look back. She ducked into the underground market, surprising herself at how much she'd caught up to Owen.
"Come on Lizzy!" He yelled back, chasing Delacourt across the top level of the market.
She quickened her pace, dodging around several vendors. Lizzy made a mental note to thank her brothers for all the obstacle courses they'd built in her parent's backyard while she'd been recovering.
Delacourt ran past two large metal containers, pulling the bar that kept them shut. Lizzy nearly slammed into Owen, who stopped running as a Carnotaurus stepped out of the container in front of him, roaring. She grabbed his arm, turning around to pull him the other way, only to freeze as an Allosaurus stepped out of the other container, roaring at her.
It snapped at her and she dove forward, dodging its jaws. When she looked back, Owen had gone through the railing, dropping down to the level below. He continued to chase after Delacourt, and Lizzy ran after him.
But she hadn't made it far when she heard screaming. She paused, looking back to see the two carnivores she'd just escaped snapping people up. She bit her lip. As bad as these black market vendors were, they were still people.
She sighed and ran back. Lizzy grabbed a sack of dinosaur skin bracelets off a stand and threw it. It bounced off the Allosaurus's side, and the dinosaur turned, roaring at Lizzy. Which got the attention of the Carnotaurus.
Lizzy swore. She had not thought this far ahead.
She started running, eyes on a large door that was clearly used to transport large cargo in and out of the market. The two large carnivores snapped at each other as they vied for who was going to eat her first.
Lizzy reached the door, heaving it open. She turned around, using the whistle she'd used to use for the raptors at Jurassic World to get the carnivore's attention. They barreled toward her, and Lizzy swore again; she also hadn't thought about what she'd do to ditch the two massive dinosaurs.
So she ran again, out into the street. Luckily, the two dinosaurs were quickly distracted snapping at pedestrians.
She grinned, murmuring, "Oh yeah, still got it." Lizzy raced back into the market, closing the large door behind her to ensure that the carnivores couldn't get back inside.
She turned around, scanning the market for Owen. And spotted him ducking under Delacourt's punch.
Lizzy ran that way, dodging an angry vendor. By the time she reached Owen, he was sweeping Delacourt off his feet and to the floor of the dinosaur fight ring.
A juvenile Carnotaurus lunged forward and snapped its jaws around Delacourt's hand. Delacourt screamed in pain. Some small dinosaur Lizzy didn't recognize began to gnaw on Delacourt's other hand and the man only screamed louder.
Owen leveled a taser at Delacourt, snapping, "Where is she?!"
Delacourt groaned in pain.
"Where did they take her?!"
"I don't know!" Delacourt gasped out. "I handed her off to Santos."
Lizzy stepped into the ring, taking Owen by the arm.
"We've got what we need," she said. "Let's go." When Owen didn't move she tugged on his arm, trying to pull him out of the ring. "Owen, let's go."
Owen finally moved as a juvenile Baryonyx stalked into the ring. Lizzy pulled him away, squeezing her eyes shut as she heard Delacourt's scream of terror abruptly stop.
Owen said into his earpiece as they ran away, "Claire, they handed her off to Santos. The woman in white."
Claire's voice crackled in Lizzy's ear, "I see her."
Lizzy grinned; Owen and Claire really did make a great team. It was a wonder they hadn't gotten married yet.
Her smile fell and she stopped running. "Oh God…" she murmured. "I left Eli…"
Owen frowned, putting a hand on her shoulder. "Lizzy, it was chaos back there. Barry won't let anything happen to him."
Lizzy swallowed and nodded.
"Liz!" Eli's voice shouted in her ear. She winced at how loud it was.
"Lizzy, there's some sort of raptor, it's–" his voice cut off as someone screamed.
"Eli!" Lizzy all but yelled into her earpiece. She grabbed Owen's hand and started to run. "Eli, where are you?!"
Owen snatched a taser off a vendor's belt as they ran. Eli responded a moment later.
"I don't know, we're in a boat, I think it's where that truck from earlier crashed." He stopped and Lizzy could hear snarling. "Hurry!"
Owen murmured, "I know where that is."
Lizzy nodded, "Just hang on Eli, I'm on my way."
Owen yanked her down a hallway. "This way!"
They ran for maybe a minute before they burst out into a large underground room with a vaulted ceiling. Sure enough, there were several open crates, and a crashed truck.
She could see one atrociraptor, snapping and snarling as it tried to get inside the boat Eli had mentioned.
Without a moment's hesitation, Lizzy scooped an empty glass beer bottle off the ground and threw it. It shattered on the atrociraptor's back.
The raptor stilled and slowly turned to look at her. It snarled.
"Yeah, that's right," Lizzy murmured. "Eyes on me."
It stalked toward her, and Lizzy threw a glance over her shoulder. Her eyes landed on a crate. If she could get it back inside there…
She began to slowly back toward the crate. Owen, who was a couple steps behind her, did the same.
"You remember how we used to get the raptors in the truck?" he asked.
Lizzy grinned. "Yep. Tell me when you're ready." She turned her focus back to the atrociraptor, and slowly raised one hand up in front of her. All she had to do was hold the thing's focus.
Behind the atrociraptor, she could see Barry climbing out of the boat, followed by Eli. Her husband's eyes widened when he saw her, but Barry shook his head and murmured something. Eli stayed quiet, watching her nervously. Thankfully, he looked unharmed.
The atrociraptor snapped at her, and Lizzy danced back a couple steps.
"Hey! Watch it!" she said.
It didn't lunge, almost looking confused at her apparent lack of fear.
"Back up two more steps," Owen murmured from behind her. "I'm ready."
"Right…" Lizzy murmured. She backed up two more steps and stopped.
The atrociraptor studied her, then slowly began to get ready to lunge. Lizzy held her breath, waiting for just the right moment…
With a snarl, it lunged at her. Lizzy dove to the side, rolling back to her feet. The atrociraptor couldn't correct its lunge in time, and it flew right into the crate.
Owen jammed a button, and the crate slammed shut.
Lizzy whooped, raising her hand for a high five.
"Oh yeah! We've still got it!"
Owen laughed, high-fiving her. "Of course we do."
Eli jumped down off the boat and hurried toward them. But he stopped halfway, staring at something behind Lizzy. Barry raised his gun, shouting, "Raptor!"
Lizzy and Owen whipped around. Her eyes landed on two atrociraptors as they jumped down. Owen grabbed her by the shoulder and Lizzy gasped as she glanced over at him.
There was a red laser dot in the center of his chest. Owen's eyes narrowed, and she followed his gaze to a woman in white behind the raptors. The woman quickly switched the laser to the center of Lizzy's chest.
Owen pulled her back as the atrociraptors snarled. Barry leveled his pistol at the raptors, shouting, "Go! Quickly!"
Owen nodded, and pulled Lizzy across the room toward a bike.
"Lizzy, wait!" Eli cried. "Don't you dare leave me behind!"
Owen mounted the bike and Lizzy hopped on behind him. She called back as Owen gunned the bike out of the room, "Stay with Barry, I'll be okay!"
"Lizzy!" He switched to talking over their earpieces, "Don't you dare run off again!"
"I'm sorry," Lizzy said back. "But I have to do this. I love you." With that, she yanked out her earpiece and tossed it. She need to be able to focus without him yelling in her ear.
Claire was still trying to chase down Kayla when Owen's voice said in Briana's earpiece, "It's Santos. The woman in white."
Briana grabbed Claire by the shoulder, replying, "We'll find her."
They quickly swept the market, eventually moving into the room with several overturned cages and a large boat. Something snarled inside the cages.
Briana snatched a taser off the side of a cage as Claire gasped.
Looking up, Briana's eyes landed on Santos, who turned and ran as she realized she'd been spotted.
Briana and Claire gave chase, racing up a narrow set of stairs, down a hallway and into what appeared to be someone's apartment.
Santos, finally out of places to run, turned to face them, kitchen knife in hand.
Briana raised the taser, "Tell us what you know."
Santos lunged at Briana with the knife, again and again. Briana danced out of the way of the first slash, ducking the second. The third time Santos tried to stab her, Briana jabbed her with the taser.
Santos screamed as the force of the taser shot her back into a table. The woman pushed herself to her hands and knees, barking, "You don't use those on people!"
Claire stepped up beside Briana, holding up Maisie's picture. "Where is she?" Claire angrily asked.
Briana kept the taser leveled at Santos, a threat if she should deny them information again.
Santos glared at them, but conceded after a moment.
"BioSyn. They're taking her to BioSyn."
Briana's heart sank. BioSyn. They had taken Maisie to BioSyn. Was there even any hope of rescuing her now?
Beside her, Claire was relaying the information to Owen.
Santos climbed to her feet, holding something in her hand. What it was, Briana couldn't see, so she shoved Claire behind her.
The object in Santos' hand turned out to be some sort of laser pointer that she leveled at Briana's chest.
Claire screamed as some sort of raptor burst through the door behind them, its eyes fixed on Briana.
The laser was a targeting system, Briana realized. Like the one Mills had used with the Indoraptor. She pushed Claire away, already moving for a window leading to a rooftop.
"Get to BioSyn and find Maisie!" Briana shouted. She leapt out the window, and didn't look back.
"BioSyn?!" Lizzy yelled back at Owen.
He nodded, steering the bike around a stack of bricks. "That's what Claire said!" he yelled back.
"How do we plan on getting there?!"
"Don't know! We need to shake these guys first!"
Lizzy nodded, glancing back at the atrociraptors on their tail. "Any ideas?!"
"Hang on!"
Lizzy tightened her hold around Owen as he took a sharp turn onto another narrow street. Behind them, one of the atrociraptors slipped and fell before charging back after them.
"Still behind us!" she yelled up to Owen.
He didn't respond, taking another sharp turn into a large square. Ahead of them, the carnotaurus Lizzy had released earlier snapped its jaws around a screaming pedestrian. Lizzy looked away, only for one of the atrociraptors to lunge at them.
Without thinking, Lizzy reached up with her prosthetic leg and kicked it square in the face as hard as she could. It yelped as it tumbled to the ground.
"Ha!" she yelled back at it. "In your face!"
They raced out of the square, Owen calling back to her, "Claire found a plane! We're meeting her there!"
"Where did she get a plane?!"
"I don't know, I didn't ask!"
Lizzy lost count of how many turns they took, and of how many near misses they had with the atrociraptors by the time they reached the airstrip.
Owen turned sharply onto the dirt runway, dust rising up around them. A cargo plane was taking off in front of them, the ramp down. Owen sped up, trying to catch the plane.
Lizzy clung tight to his back, staring over her shoulder at the atrociraptors that got closer and closer with every step.
"They're gaining!" she shouted.
Owen spared one glance back, saying in response, "Hold on tight!"
He revved the bike forward, jumping them up onto the ramp of the plane. Lizzy yelled as they both jumped off the bike, which slammed into the wall at the end of the cargo bay.
She started sliding backward, toward the atrociraptor that had jumped after them. Her hands found purchase on a net strapped to the wall, halting her slide. The bike flew back as the plane left the ground, slamming into the atrociraptor.
Both the bike and the atrociraptor tumbled out of the plane and into the ocean.
Lizzy whooped as the plane ramp closed. On the other side of the plane, Owen chuckled as Claire helped him up.
"You alright?" he asked.
"You're kidding, right?" Lizzy replied, smiling. "I've never been better."
