Addison was worried when the wolves didn't show up at school the next day, no one had seen them in Zombietown either. Plus, she was admittedly pretty drowsy, she had tossed and turned for at least an hour last night trying to think of ways they could still help the wolves, while also debating the chances they actually could find the stone under the rubble. Addison could see smoke trailing up into the sky as she walked to school with Zed that morning, and he told her the only thing still standing above ground was one remaining smokestack.
At lunch their table's usual liveliness was down, Addison could feel the space the wolves had taken the last few days, had it only been less than a week since she came home from Cheer Camp? It felt like forever.
Zed as always was trying to keep everyone's spirits up. "Pops said he would start everyone digging through the rubble, and he also had a copy of the powerplant's original blueprints to try to figure what and where could still be standing. It might take a few days, but I know we can do it."
"I hope you're right." Bree said, still sounding just as downhearted as Addison felt. "Hey Eliza, what are you doing?"
Eliza was busy typing away on her computer. "I'm looking through everything I can find about the Z-bands, if the Moonstone did make zombies, then I bet I can hack some Z-Bands to keep Wy- the wolves all alive. Maybe its just the right amount of electromagnetic pulses or something." She grumbled, her eyes never leaving her screen.
"Screwzywolves zo gustarr Z-bands."
"I know, they may not like them, I hate them sometimes too, but its just the same for us, if we want to live our normal lives we have to wear them."
"Eliza I agree it's a solid backup plan but we got to have faith in Pops. I know he can find a way to the Moonstone, I told him pretty much everything when we got home last night and he promised to help any way he can."
"I know he'll do his best Zed, just like he always does for you and Zoey." Addison agreed. "Um Eliza, did you sleep last night?"
"Sleep is for the weak, this is more important." Eliza answered offhandedly, her eyes still refusing to leave the computer screen.
Addison looked over at Bucky, he was sitting with the other cheerleaders like always, but his normal cheertastic smile was gone, instead, he looked worried too. She explained everything that happened last night in the hall earlier, and he took the news hard that they came so close to succeeding, but fell short from a simple mistake of a faulty remote.
She thought back to the conversation they had earlier that morning.
"So the powerplant is gone, and the Moonstone with it? Even after we explained everything and Uncle Dale promised to help?"
"Yes, the remote detonator accidentally started or something and it blew up the powerplant, but we think we might still be able to get underground, but after the explosion Willa, Wyatt and Wynter all started getting sick."
"I hate that, we were so close to winning."
"Yeah, here I guess you can take the diary back." Addison said, reaching into her backpack and handing it over. "We were right, it was definitely there, but it may still be down there."
"You know what, you and Bree should go with everyone else to help right after school. Forget about practice. Everyone's already absolutely perfect, just tell everyone they can have a day off to get ready for Prawn tomorrow."
"You know what Bucky, I think that's a great idea, I am not in a cheerleader mood today."
"Yeah, I kinda noticed." Bucky said, looking her up and down.
Addison was wearing some of the darkest clothing she owned, which meant a dark blue jacket and jeans. She was definitely feeling blue today, the colors matched her mood perfectly.
"Do you want to come help?"
"Honestly, I might come later, but me and the Aceys are all picking up our suits for Prawn after school. But if I have time later I will be there."
"Thanks Bucky, you've already helped us out so much."
"It's literally the least I can do since my family is the cause of all of this."
"It's not your fault, no one blames you. You know that."
"That doesn't mean I can't blame myself."
"Our family isn't just our blood, it's who we choose, and Bucky, I will always be proud to call you my family."
"Thank you, Addison, I'm proud to call you my family too. Are you still going to come to Prawn?"
"Of course I am, I don't know how much I'll enjoy it if I'm still worried about the wolves, but Zed and I have both been waiting so long for it. It feels kind of empty, knowing what the wolves will be going through."
'Well, you gotta come see me win Prawn King though right? Plus I wouldn't be surprised if you become Queen."
"What makes you say that?"
"Because not only are you Cheer Captain, which makes you queen of the school anyway, even if you and Bree don't capitalize on it, you two are both genuinely nice and people really like you, not just worship you. Plus I have to admit, you and Zed together are probably my biggest competition."
"Why? I don't care about being queen, plus Zed and I are both freshmen, you think all the upperclassmen would vote for us?"
"Well yeah, I hate to admit it, but you have the cutest couple vote in the bag, in fact, I guarantee that will be your official title in the yearbook in a few years."
"Well, may the best man win Bucky, I hope you win."
"Really why?"
"Because I don't want only Zed to win or only me to win, the only ones either of us will be dancing with that night will be each other." Addison cracked the first smile she showed all day.
"Of course, that's your reason. See you later Cuz, I have to get to class."
"See you Bucky!" Addison waved.
Back at lunch, Addison returned to the conversation when Zed nudged her shoulder. "Earth to Addison." He said smiling.
"Sorry, what were you saying?"
'" think we should probably split up again, Eliza and I will go back to Zombietown to help out and you guys can join us when you're done with cheerleading."
"No problem Zed, Bree, Bucky, and I have decided to give everyone a day off for Prawn. So we can all go together right after school."
"Even more perfect." Zed smiled.
So five minutes after the final bell rang that day Addison and her friends were all on their way to Zombietown.
Her mood was lifted slightly by the appearance of Willa, Wyatt, and Wynter, even though they all looked like they hadn't slept in days, they all had dark circles under their eyes, and Addison could see their stiffness as they moved.
"Hey, how are you all?" Addison asked.
"We've been better," Willa admitted, "we're here to succeed, we have a Moonstone to find, its just somewhere beneath our feet."
"And a thousand tons of rubble." Wyatt added.
"How are the rest of your pack?" Bree asked.
"Everyone's worse, but we're all still alive at least, but I really don't know how much time we have, we could already be too late." Willa admitted.
"Hey Pops!" Zed called out. "Come fill us in." he said as Zevon walked over.
"Well," Zevon had a large blueprint of the powerplant in hand, that he spread on the hood of a nearby Z-Patrol jeep, everyone else crowding around. "We've been moving and hauling away what rubble we can, still putting out a lot of fires, those have been pretty stressful." Zevon admitted, "But we still have no idea what could be standing down below. You guys are welcome to join us but be careful, there could be fires burning beneath things, and you could get burnt by touching them, and watch out for any broken glass or sharp nails or metal or broken bricks and concrete. Do what you can, but stay safe, and if an adult tells you something, listen, we all have a lot more experience working in this setting than all of you do, got it?"
"Yes Pops. Yes Zevon." They all chorused. They all paired off to begin helping wherever they could, Eliza and Wyatt tried to orient themselves, but with the old structure wiped off the map, not even Eliza could figure out where anything was on the surface. So they both went back to sifting through the rubble for any sign of anything.
After some digging by a bulldozer, they found the elevator shaft, but now it was just a giant, pitch black, square hole in the earth, Zed experimentally tossed a brick in, and only Wynter could hear it reach the bottom. After that Zevon made sure plenty of caution tape was placed around it, and forbid anyone from going near it since they didn't have any ropes or climbing gear or anything.
After several hours, all of them were feeling dead on their feet, especially the wolves, who looked ready to collapse. Zevon sent all the workers home and invited everyone over to his house for dinner, and everyone agreed. When they arrived, the wolves all collapsed on the couch.
Everyone else sat around the living room while Zevon headed off to the kitchen to whip up something hopefully everyone would enjoy.
Zoey ran down the stairs with Puppy to see what everyone was doing. "Hey Zed! Why's everyone here?" She asked.
"We were looking for something at the Powerplant, but we haven't found it yet. And we're all tired out and hungry. Especially the wolves."
"You brought werewolves home, can I play with them? Please?"
"You can ask them, but don't bother them if they say no."
"Alright." Zoey walked over to the three wolves, who peeked their eyes open.
"Hi I'm Zoey, do you wanna come play with me and Puppy? We can show you all the cheer moves and tricks we know. And I want to see what real werewolves can do. I bet you're super strong!"
"Yes, we are, we wolves are always strong." Wynter cheered, even though she was looking like she was forcing herself to smile. "I'd love to play with you Zoey."
"OK, want to come outside?"
"Sure that sound's great."
Wynter followed Zoey and Puppy out the back door.
"Dinner's ready!" Zevon called out from the kitchen a few minutes later.
Everyone else stood up to head to the kitchen, but after squeezing Addison's hand Zed turned to the back door to go get Zoey and Wynter. He smiled as he looked out into the backyard, Zoey was scratching Wynter's head behind her ear, and Wynter looked the most relaxed and blissed out that Zed had ever seen her. Puppy noticed him standing on the porch and ran up to him, and Zed reached down to scratch behind his ears.
"It's OK Puppy, there's no need to be jealous." Zed laughed as he heard Puppy's whines turn into happy yips. "Zoey it's time for dinner!" He yelled.
"Oh yeah, that's good." Wynter sighed before she turned her head abruptly at Zed's call. "Well Zoey, I have to say, you are just as awesome with werewolves as you are with Puppy, I only wish some of the pups at the den were as well trained." She laughed.
"Thank you, Wynter, can I meet some of the werewolf kids sometime? I'm looking for a werefriend so I'm not the only monster in my class, I mean I have my best friend Kinzley in the other class but I think it would be so much fun to have a werewolf in school."
"Oh trust me, werewolves in school are awesome." Wynter agreed, but then her face fell. "Maybe some other time, now just isn't the best for any of the werepups to leave the den."
"OK, I understand, I can wait until you're ready."
"Yeah, ready." Wynter sighed again. "Oh wait a minute, let's go back inside, I'm so hungry I could eat a moose. Is your dad a good cook?"
"Yeah, his scrambled brains are amazing, even though Zed always makes fun of them for no reason."
"Scrambled brains, sounds interesting, what do they taste like?" Wynter asked as Zoey led her and Puppy back up the steps.
"Like sweaty gym socks." Zed supplied.
"No, they're delicious!" Zoey shouted vehemently.
When they got back inside, Zoey quickly ran to sit beside Addison at the table, and Zed pouted slightly to himself that Bree was already seated on her other side.
Unfortunately, Eliza caught his look before he could fix his face. "Oh cheer up Romeo, I think you two can survive one meal together without holding hands."
This caught everyone else's attention and a light round of laughter quickly filled the kitchen, even Addison was laughing at him, so Zed, still somewhat embarrassed, took a seat between Bonzo and Wyatt.
"Alright dinner's ready, and I think I got the best option that everyone should be able to eat. Who wants pizza?" Zevon announced as he brought over several pizzas. Sorry, all we have is cheese and veggie.
"Thank you Mr. Necrodopolis it looks great." Willa thanked him, taking a slice of the cheese.
"So no caulibrains?" Zed asked hopefully,
"No, but I can make some if you really want them Zed."
"No Pops, you don't need to go through the trouble, this is already great. Mmmm."
"I'm sure." Zevon laughed as he took his own plate.
Everyone was so famished, they all dug in, and agreed that the pizza was delicious after wolfing it down.
"Mmm. Thank you again Mr. Necrodoplus, that was great." Willa said as she took a drink of her water.
"Thank you again Willa, but I insist you all can call me Zevon, any friend of Zed's is a friend of mine." Zevon smiled.
"Alright, Zevon." Willa smiled back.
"I'm just sorry everything went so bad last night and we haven't found your moon rock yet."
"It's not your fault, I heard you, you were trying to listen to us from the start, and I know we went in claws first, so I honestly can't even blame the Z-Patrol, and then you tried to stop it, and now you're still helping us. Thank you, Zevon."
"Honestly if anything is still down there, the best way down is probably through the elevator, but no one is going down there without permission, or the right safety precautions, got it, and I am talking to all of you, I don't want any of you to get hurt." Zevon said sternly.
"Yes, Zevon." Everyone chorused.
"So what exactly is going on? Why is everyone so sad?" Zoey asked.
Addison turned to Zoey to explain. "Because Zoey, there was something in the powerplant that the wolves need, and now it could be destroyed, or maybe just buried, but your dad is helping us dig it back up, I know everything will be fine, we just need to be patient."
"OK…" Zoey said smiling, but her face soon fell, "What's that noise? She asked, her voice shaking.
"What noise?" Addison asked.
"Wait, I can hear it too." Wyatt's ears were perked up, after a few moments all the zombies and wolves all turned in the same direction, facing the living room.
"What is it?" Bree asked.
"I can hear something, like crumbling stone…" Willa said softly.
But suddenly the entire house started shaking. Everyone froze in place with nothing but panic on their faces as the shaking grew more and more intense.
"Earthquake!" Zevon shouted, "Everybody out the door now!" Zevon scooped up Zoey and Puppy in his arms and ran through the house and out through the front door.
The shaking continued as everyone else followed Zevon out as quickly as they could, Bonzo, Zed, and Wyatt were pulling along Bree, Addison, and Eliza, sheltering their bodies as best as they could, Wynter and Willa already running ahead of them. A bunch of the plates and glasses they had been eating from were falling off the table and shattering on the floor, as well as many of the picture frames and other décor were falling off the walls, and dust was raining down from the ceiling. Zed took his eyes off Addison for a moment and lunged forward, grabbing a picture before it could hit the floor, he hugged it to his chest with one hand, and returned the other around Addison's shoulder, before continuing to head out the door.
They finally made it outside and Zevon quickly did a headcount, sighing with relief that everyone was there, still holding on to Zoey and Puppy in his arms. "Just stay calm everyone!" Zevon shouted to be heard over the noise, many of their neighbors were still stumbling out of their homes as the ground continued to shake.
Zed and Addison kept an equally tight hold on each other to keep their balance, Zed placed the rescued photograph lightly down on a nearby lawn chair, it would hopefully be safe there, for now at least.
Next, the earth released an immense cracking sound that split the night like a bolt of thunder, the shaking got even more intense as a rolling thunder drew closer and closer from the powerplant. Right down the middle of the street, the concrete and asphalt was being split upward before turning into a narrow sinkhole right before their eyes, coming to a stop just in front of the wall.
Then, most of the lights in the nearby light gardens went out, and everyone could see a mysterious violet glow shining from the hole. Steam rising into the cool evening air.
Willa froze, as she felt a spark jump from her Moonstone, she already felt stronger than she had in days, this was it, nothing will stop her now. "The energy from the Moonstone must have created the fault line. If we follow this crack it may lead us to the Moonstone."
"So it's only buried and not destroyed." Addison smiled in excitement.
Another earthquake rippled down the street everyone holding onto each other tighter to keep from falling down, or worse, falling into the fissure. Most of the zombie residents were nervously backing away or glancing back at their houses to make sure they were still standing.
"We have to get to it." Wynter agreed.
Willa nodded. "Quickly while we still can!" Willa, Wyatt, and Wynter ran down into the fissure without a moment's hesitation. Leaving the rest of their friends in the dust.
Once all the wolves were in the hole, Zed immediately jumped down too.
"Zed what are you doing?" Zevon asked.
"We have to go help them out. Who knows what else is down there?"
Bonzo jumped down next and together they brought the girls down.
"Come on guys, we got this!" Addison cheered
"We got this!" Everyone chorused back as they slowly made their way forward as a group.
As Willa led the wolves down through the tunnel, she knew with certainty they would find it, every step closer she could feel it in her bones, the Moonstone was down here, waiting for the pack to rescue it, her earlier fatigue was completely forgotten. The pack will succeed, and the pack will survive.
"It's this way! I see the light, it's coming from Seabrook Power!" Willa called to her packmates.
They finally arrived at a room, filled with twisting pipes and sparking wires as the earth was still shaking, but in the center of the forgotten tomb, was the Moonstone, glowing a radiant violet, enough to light the entire space, it was surrounded by a metal cage, but Willa was too happy to notice. They finally found it. Everyone she loved could be saved.
The wolves formed a circle around the stone and each pressed their necklaces against it. Willa's necklace glowed a brilliant blue, and even just holding it in her hand, she could feel its restored power. Stronger than she had ever known before. All of the wolves let out growls as their claws and fangs grew sharper, their muscles became stronger, and their eyes glowed yellow, the dim cavern was now bright as day to all of them. All their previous weakness and fatigue disappeared.
They all took a moment to adjust to their new power before another intense earthquake rocked the cavern.
"We have to get it out of here!" Willa ordered.
"Legend says that together our pack can move the stone!" Wyatt reminded Willa and Wynter. "We can do this!"
"All of Us!" Willa called out. "Lift!"
But even working together, the wolves could only raise the Moonstone a few inches off the ground. They'll never be able to get it out of the tunnel.
"It's too heavy." Wynter gasped.
Willa looked at her brother and Wynter's terrified faces, the legend said the pack could lift the stone, but their entire pack was still sick at the Den. Willa didn't know what to do. "There's not enough of us!"
"Then maybe you need to expand your pack!" Addison called out as she led their friends into the room.
"Addison?" Willa asked in surprise.
"We came here to help! Come on everyone! We got this!" Addison shouted as dust started to rain down from the ceiling as the earthquakes continued. "Hurry before its too late! Lift!"
Everyone spread out around the metal cage holding the Moonstone, and together, they were able to lift it up. They started slowly shuffling their way across the room. But when they were still five feet away, a massive section of wall collapsed in front of them, sealing the tunnel they entered through.
Everyone dropped the Moonstone again and wide-eyed faces glanced around everywhere silently, no one knew what to do.
"The chamber's collapsed. We can't carry the Moonstone through." Wyatt said as he experimentally tried to move it, but it was much too heavy for him even with his powers.
"And we can't get out either!" Wynter barked at him in a panic.
After a few moments, Eliza's eyes landed on Zed's wrist. "Zed! Your Z-band! You can take it off and lift the wall. Addison can keep you calm!"
Zed, gently cradled his Z-band and looked at Eliza with fear.
"Look Zed, I know you can do this."
"I'm not ready! What if I can't control it? Come on guys let's think about this, there has to be a better option.
Addison searched for any possible alternative escape, but the other three walls looked just as solid, and with all the dust raining down, Addison was more worried about the ceiling. There were no other doors or passages, she glanced over at Zed again, as much as she hated to admit it, Eliza was right, but she wasn't scared for her, she knew Zed could and would do it if she asked, but she also knew how much he still hated his inner zombie, She took a deep breath to steady her shaking voice both from the nerves, and the shaking beneath her feet.
"No, I don't want to risk hurting Addie or any of the rest of you, you're all my friends, I would never forgive myself."
Eliza continued to try to persuade him. "Zed if you don't we could all be buried here anyway. The wolves aren't strong enough but come on Mr. Big shot football star, this is your chance to prove zombies are stronger than werewolves, and Bonzo or I would do it, but we don't have any experience with controlling ourselves when we're full Zom. You do, both during football and plus whatever mushy love spell she has you under. You've told me about your Z-band check, I know you'll be fine because I know just as much as you do that you won't hurt Addison or any of us."
Addison walked over to Zed and grabbed onto his hands, both in comfort and to keep herself from falling over. "Zed. I trust you, and I love you, both as you and as your zombie."
"I know you do, and I know he loves you too, but what if I go after Bree? Or I decide the werewolves look tasty or something and you can't stop me? I know we just ate dinner, but I'm pretty sure he won't care."
"Look Zed, he is you, he is a part of you, and you don't need to hide yourself, we need all of you if we are going to make it out of this, and we all trust you. Don't we?" Addison asked turning to her friends.
Everyone quietly nodded agreement.
"I trust you, and I love you. You are my zombie, and my knight in shining armor, you can do this. You can save us all, and all the werewolves. I'll be right here, every step of the way. I know you can do this Zed. Are you ready?"
Zed looked deep into her eyes, and Addison knew there was nothing in them but love and trust in his warm, coffee-colored depths. She hoped he was seeing the same thing in hers.
"Alright, I'll do it. We'll do this. Together. I love you Addie, Gar Gar Gaza."
"I love you too Zed. Gar Gar Gaza." Addison stretched up on her tiptoes to give him a kiss for good luck, and when she pulled away she fought to keep a smile on her face despite her fear, not of Zed, just everything around them.
Zed returned her nervous smile and unclasped his Z-Band so it was resting loosely around his wrist. "I love you, Addie, you better keep this so I don't lose it." He said as he slowly removed his Z-band and handed it over.
"I'll keep it safe, I promise. Gar Gar Gaza Zed."
He put all his energy and focus into telling his inner zombie one thing. "Save Addison, move the wall."
He could feel the muscles in his arms, legs and neck twitching with strength as he felt the zombie within him rise to the surface and dark veins crawled up his arms and face. He let out a terrifying roar, but for once there were cheers of excitement in response.
"Come on Zed, I know you can do this!" Eliza called out.
Zed tore his eyes and hungry thoughts away from the humans and werewolves surrounding him. He could smell them, hear their rapid, terrified heartbeats, but he could also hear her heartbeat. His other half. "Addiska." He said as his dark eyes met hers.
"I'm here Zed, you can do this. Move the wall."
"Proteg! Addiska! ROAARR!" Zed shouted as he turned to the wall, and using every fiber of his strength, lifted it up from the bottom corner and started pushing it back up as far as he could.
"You're doing great Zed!" He could feel Addison right behind him. "Just stay calm, stay focused, just a little more baby, I know you got this." Zed could hear people moving slowly behind him as they inched through the gap with the Moonstone in tow, but he didn't feel any hunger for them. Addison was with him, and he had to save her. She was always the first and only thing that mattered.
Soon enough, everyone else was outside the cave, and the cavern was still shaking, a large section of the ceiling crashed to the floor where the Moonstone had rested mere moments ago.
"Come on Zed." Addison gently placed a hand on his shoulder after she walked back into the still shaking room, "Careful now. It's time for us to go."
More and more dust was raining down, and Zed shifted his position slightly, and almost lost his grip. "Addiska Gooo!"
"No, we're going together. On three OK?"
"Zo!" Zed shook his head.
"What do you mean Zed? I know we can do this."
Zed met her eyes, all his muscles still straining to hold back the wall from falling.
"Lo ziento Addiska." Zed said, much more quietly, and with all the love his zombie self could muster.
"What are you sorry for Zed?"
Zed took a deep breath and felt his own heartbeat still for a moment. Then he opened his eyes, and using all his remaining strength, launched the wall to the side and then spun around, grabbed Addison around her waist, and pushed her through the gap as hard as he could. "PROTEG ADDISKA!" Zed roared one last time, as the wall slammed back down in a cloud of dust.
Addison didn't know what to think, one second she was standing beside Zed, and the next she was flying through the air, thankfully she ran into something soft instead of banging her head on a rock or anything. She looked up to see Bonzo's bewildered face looking down at her.
Then she heard him. "PROTEG ADDISKA!" and all she could see was a choking cloud of dust.
"NO! ZED! NO NO NO! ZED!"
Everyone behind her was completely silent as she ran forward when the cold gray wall reappeared, with no Zed.
The quakes had stopped, but Addison didn't even notice, she was shaking so much. She ran forward and placed her hands on the wall. "No no no. This can't be real, this is all a nightmare. Please let me wake up. Zed!" She fell to her knees and pounded against the stone with her fist. Her voice cracking, "ZED! PLEASE! Can you hear me? You have to hear me! It's me! It's Addison! Addiska! I need you! I know you can do it! You're OK! You can open it again! PLEASE ZED! I need you out here!" She felt warm arms circle around her shoulders, but she couldn't see anything through her tears. All she could notice was they were too warm to be Zed.
Zed couldn't be gone, he was trapped all alone, and she was all alone, she needed Zed in her life and he had so much more to live for. He just saved them all and all the werewolves, she couldn't lose him.
She finally heard a small cracking sound, and Bree whispered in her ear. "Addison look!"
She opened her eyes and wiped her tears away, and she could see the wall slowly, ever so slowly being lifted up again. And she could hear his beautiful grunts and roars as he struggled to lift it higher and higher.
"Yes! Come on Zed! I know you can do it, babe! You…You're a big strong zombie, this is nothing for you! Keep going! All the way!"
"Addiska!" Zed's dark eyes lit up when he saw her, but Addison could still see his straining muscles pale gray against the dark veins and using every ounce of his strength remaining.
"Yes Zed! Keep going you're almost there, you're doing great!"
Addison broke eye contact, and glanced behind her. "Bonzo, Wyatt, Wynter, Willa up here!"
"Grat?" Bonzo asked.
"When Zed has it all the way open, Wyatt, Wynter, and Willa, can you use your wolf strength to try to hold it open from this side?"
"We will try our best, as long as we can, I promise Addison. but no guarantees." Willa warned her.
"Good, that's all I can ask for. Keep going Zed. Zombie strong! This is easy for you!"
"Bonzo, you and I are going to pull Zed through and make sure he doesn't trap himself again. Got it?"
"Gra." Bonzo shot her a thumbs up.
"Keep going Zed, just a little bit more! And there! Great job Zed! Hold it right there! Wolves, you're up!"
Willa, Wyatt, and Wynter all cautiously walked up to the hole and placed their grip on the door, staying outside the room, but also trying not to block Zed's escape route.
Wyatt could see Zed's glare lock on him, but he was too strained to do anything much less attack Wyatt.
"Zed! Its OK they're all friends, coming to help you. Bonzo get ready." Addison said as she walked closer. Both Bonzo and Addison lightly gripped each of Zed's arms.
"Wolves, get ready."
All three let out growls as their eyes glowed in the darkness. But this time, Zed remained mostly calm, his eyes locked on Addison.
"Zed, let go! Now Bonzo!"
Zed let go of the stone and was pulled forward through the danger zone in less than a heartbeat.
The wolves strained against the falling wall for as long as they could, they couldn't hold it up, but were able to slowly bring it back down so Zed had plenty of time. Another billowing cloud of dust wafted through the tunnel, obscuring the rescue party from Bree and Eliza.
When the dust cleared, Bonzo and the wolves were checking themselves over, everyone was safe. Zed was wrapped protectively around Addison, and Addison had her face buried against his chest.
