The Modi-pod brought Xero back to their air blimp base, leaving all her problems below.
"Hello," she yelled inside the seemingly empty base, only to hear silence. She placed the movie and snacks onto the table. "Remember to expect the unexpected," she reminded herself. "I know you're here. You couldn't sneak up on me last week, and you not going to succeed today."
"Oh, I got a few new tricks up my sleeve today," a familiar voice said from inside their shared room. She walked cautiously, struggling to make any more noise then she had too, struggling to hide her giggling. She then quickly rushed to the ajar door, hoping to catch her assailant off guard. "There's no trick you have that I haven't figured out already," she said as she swung open the door.
She stood there dumbfounded. Instead of what she expected behind the door, or rather who, there was instead in its place a recorder, it's red blinking light staring back at her. "Except maybe that one," she said genuinely surprised.
Without warning her assailant grabbed hold onto her from behind, his arms wrapped around her waist, her arms, locked under his grip.
"Well, it's good to see that you're all healed up from your last attempt." She turned her head as far as she could to look at her partner, Zero. Hos brown eyes looked back at her, pride behind them as he tightened his attack embrace.
"Never felt better," he said, a huge smile across his face, having finally "defeated" his greatest foe.
"Last week you used a pillow under the covers, this week a voice recorder," she reminded him. "I wouldn't either of these cases a fair fight."
"You tackled me to the floor after I finished breakfast just two days ago," he reminded her. "Besides, all that matters is whatever it takes to win," he rebuttal. "Now, do you yield?"
She was silent for a moment as she lightly struggled against his grip.
Without another word, she suddenly shifted her left foot behind his and put all her weight, and with gravity help, against him. The duo fell to the ground, with Zero taking the brunt of the fall.
"That no fair," he said under her, his arms still struggling to hold onto her.
"Whatever it takes to win," she reminded him.
With her "greatest foe" defeated, she easily slipped out of his loose grip but chose not to get off of him. She rather play with him a little bit. "Better luck next time," she said gleefully.
Without wasting another moment, and mustering all the courage she could, she said coyly, "You know the fall did hurt me … and your little sneak attack also hurt emotionally, and as the 10-time winner of just about every one of our duels, I believe I deserve a reward." She could feel her cheeks burn as she said those words. But they were close, if not exactly what she wanted to say, or how she wanted it to sound. "Please don't back out now," she thought to herself.
He looked at her hesitantly, his own cheeks starting to turn tomato red. "And what is it exactly that you want?"
"Don't back out this is your chance," she thought to herself. As smoothly as she could, she leaned as close as she dared to go to him, her eyes now noticing the flush on his face. "How about you give me a teeny, tiny, little k-"
Before she could press any farther Mole entered into their room.
"Of course," she thought to herself.
"Good news guys," Mole said as he looked at his paper forum. He stopped suddenly as he saw the duo, one on top of the other. "What did I just miss?"
"Nothing," Zero said as he quickly tried to stand up, helping Xero up.
"Nothing at all," Xero agreed as she brushed as much of the floor dirt off of her usual attire. "What were you going to tell us?" Xero asked hoping to change the topic.
Mole looked at them suspiciously for a moment then continued. "I gave Katz my report and you two should be back to work tomorrow," he said as he slowly left the room. "So be ready. Its time to get back to work," he said as he exited the room.
Zero let out a huff of air as soon as Mole was gone. "I guess vacation time is over," he said turning to his partner.
"Yea," she said trying not to sound gloomy. "I guess movie night is canceled till next vacation."
"Well, I see no reason why that is the case. It's not like we have to be in early tomorrow." he leaned closer to her. "Live a little," he said a warm smile coming across his face.
She couldn't help but smile back at him.
"So what was that reward you wanted a k?"
She hesitated and panicked at that moment, the red coming back to her cheeks. "A kick," she said quickly.
He just gave her another smirk. "Maybe another day," he said as he exited the room.
