Working on the chapter for Instincts to Devour! It should be out soon! Good reading my friends.
Artemis groaned as she stared up at Percy, confused as to why he was standing in front of her. Why had he come into her dorm? She squinted her eyes and frowned at him. He raised an eyebrow at her and gave her a lopsided grin. Some part of Artemis jumped at the sight, he was truly a dork. Raising an eyebrow back at him, he tilted his head back and laughed. Artemis joined him, chuckling softly.
"Why are you in my dorm, Percy?" She asked softly, curiously tilting her head at him.
"You're in my dorm, Arty." Percy's eyes sparked with playfulness as he stared at her.
Artemis turned to glance at him, shock evident on her face before she laughed again and shoved him. After the night they had before she felt truly comfortable with him. He hadn't taken her show of emotion as weakness and had comforted her. Of course, it was weird knowing that she actually didn't mind a male but he was different. If Zoë could befriend him, why couldn't she? These past three days had really proven what kind of personality he had. Playful, loving and carefree. Through all the hell he had been subjected too, he was still happy. It was nice to have a friend again, of course no one could replace Zoë but hopefully even after Artemis returned to godhood Percy didn't mind her visiting him every once and awhile.
"Cmon Sleeping Beauty, we got classes!" Percy urged her, tugging at the blanket she had on.
Artemis groaned, she really didn't want to go to that stupid mortal school. Can she just call out? Maybe she can convince Percy to leave without her. Well then maybe not, she'd be lonely. Artemis turned to face him with a evil grin.
"I want to skip school. I want that on my list and I want to use that right now." Artemis said smugly, happy with her excuse to get out of going to school.
Percy laughed and shook his head, an exasperated look on his face. "Fine, we'll skip school but we're not staying in the dorm. Get up, let's go!"
Artemis groaned but ultimately stood up and glanced around the dorm. She was reminded of the night before where she had tried Taco Bell and blushed slightly realizing she probably fell asleep eating it. Glancing at Percy she realized he had changed at some point from midnight to when she woke him up. Shoving him towards the door she gave him a pointed look. He gave her a confused look and she shook her head.
"Out, i'm going to change."
Percy made an 'o' shape with his mouth but walked out of his dorm without much of a fight. Opening up his closet, she squinted at his clothes. Reaching out she grabbed one of his camp shirts, not really caring that it was bright orange. Tossing that in the general direction of his bed, she grabbed one of the flannels. Artemis looked up to see if there was anything else and she couldn't help the laugh that escaped her as she noticed a pair of boots and a cowboy hat. It was fairly amusing, she had to admit. Grabbing the hat out of the closet she walked over to his bed, leaning down to pick up the shirt she had tossed. Artemis pulled the hoodie off and glanced in the mirror, staring at her body.
Artemis swallowed hard as she ran her fingers over scars she had accumulated over the thousands of years she had been alive. Now usually god's never wanted to keep their scars but the ones she kept had a story behind them. Artemis smiled slightly as she ran her finger over her abdomen thinking about the young hunter who had accidentally shot her and had apologized profusely. Really it was a flesh wound but the young girl had cried profusely thinking she would be punished. Artemis fought back tears thinking about the fact that the young girl had perished in the Battle of Manhattan.
Shaking her head clear she turned around and glanced at her back. Her back was well defined, proof of the years she spent fighting and surviving. Artemis had never once cared about her appearance but now she couldn't help but compare herself to the other goddesses on Olympus. Her shoulders broad while others were slim, she didn't have the hourglass shape that men seemed to go crazy over. No she was simply plain. She blinked and stared herself in the eyes, a frown on her face. Her silver eyes stared back at her, flecks of yellow in them. Artemis turned to face herself in the mirror again and sighed. She had never put thought into her body but now as a mortal she felt... undesirable. She didn't want to have men drooling over her but she wanted to at least feel like if she was into it there would be suitors.
A knock on the door broke her from the trance she was in, "Hey Artemis! You okay?"
"Yeah, one sec!"
Hurrying to toss on his camp shirt and the flannel she glanced around his dresser hoping to find a hair tie. She quickly braided her auburn hair and grabbed the hat, tossing it on. She hurriedly tired her shoes, converses she believed they we're called. Opening the door Percy noticed the hat she was wearing at blushed. She grinned at him and she swear his breath hitched. She raised an eyebrow as he stared at her for a second, their eyes locked together. His eyes were much like his fathers, the ocean raging in them. All though Poseidon's eyes always seemed like a warning Percy's seemed to be an adventure. He grinned at her and stepped into his dorm hurriedly, grabbing his keys and switching his shoes before pulling out another cowboy hat from somewhere. He glanced at her for a second before grabbing a plain black flannel at running up to her.
Artemis stared at the camp shirt he was wearing and then the flannel and finally the hat. They were matching. She sighed and shook her head but the grin on her face said it all.
"So what are we going to do today, oh mighty hero?" Artemis asked him curiously. She truly did want to know what Percy had planned for them. So far he had taken her to places she had enjoyed.
"Why, My Lady, our destination is a secret but unfortunately I must inform you it's a ninety minute drive away." Percy had adopted a very terrible british accent, causing Artemis to laugh loudly.
They had walked down to the main hall Jason, Annabeth, Mark, and Apollo were waiting for the two. The group was taken aback by the two who seemed to have gotten closer seemingly overnight. It was confusing to them and they really didn't have a clue why Artemis had so simply attached to the man. I mean cmon, it was Artemis. Apollo seemed to be the most shocked, never in his life would he have assumed he would see his sister laughing with a man the way she was. A fully belly laugh, deep from her chest. The stone cold goddess was laughing. It wasn't just that though, it was the way Percy seemed thrilled to make her laugh in such a way. His sea green eyes we're lively as he stared at the goddess.
Something had definitely happened the night before but it didn't seem like it was anything romantic. It just seemed like the two had touched basis and found friendship within one another. It was comforting to Apollo knowing his sister had someone to lean on, she no longer had access to her hunters.
"Where are you two going?" Annabeth called out, an eyebrow raised. She was analyzing them carefully trying to figure out what had happened.
Keeping up with the terrible british accent, "Why, Fair Lady, we are going to a very great destination. Yes, something my dear liege lord here will enjoy greatly. I hope. She has decided to skip school today and i will use any excuse to skip school."
Annabeth sighed heavily but had a grin on her face as well. Really how could you not find it amusing? Although the matching outfits we're amusing she had never seen Percy in a cowboy hat and she had never expected to see Artemis in a cowboy hat either. It was quite amusing, she had to admit.
Percy pulled out his keys and winked at the group, "Why, Have a good day mates. We're setting off for our adventures!" Looping his arm through Artemis's he skipped out of the dorm hall, the group sighing after the pair.
Artemis smiled and kept up with him, her emotions in a high even though she had that slight sadness this morning. Percy seemed to be doing his best to keep the goddess happy. It was almost confusing and she wanted to think he had other motives but he just seemed so genuine. This was supposed to be a punishment but it was starting to look like a gift. It wasn't so much being turned into a mortal that hurt but rather the lack of being around her hunters. They were her family and to be without them for so long? It really did bother her to think that if they needed her she couldn't protect them.
Percy opened the door to his truck and raised an eyebrow at her, "After you."
She shook her head but climbed up into the vehicle. It was warm in there but not overly bearing. It was still fairly early in the morning, only breaching 8am. She took a deep breath and released it. She wanted today to be as good of a day as any. She wanted to experience fully whatever Percy had planned for her and fates be damned she was going to experience it. Artemis buckled up and watched Percy climb in to the truck. His taller frame made it slightly amusing to watch but she hid that from him. He easily took the hat off and set it in the back seat. Artemis quickly followed suit.
"So, before we start this road trip how ya feeling about mcdonald's?"
Artemis agreed very quickly and 1 sausage mcmuffin, hash brown and sprite later she was a very happy goddess. The AC was on slightly and Percy was focusing on the road but other then that they road in silence. Unnnntil Percy decided to ask about why she seemed sad earlier. Leave it to men to bring things up you'd rather leave unspoken.
Sighing heavily Artemis looked out the window. How do you even breach this subject? How do you explain that the man hating goddess wishes she was desirable to a man. It was hard to believe for herself so she doubted he would understand. Artemis decided to give it a shot, he always did the best to understand what she was feeling so why not let him hear what she has to say.
Artemis took a deep breath and whispered, "I do not feel as if I am pretty. I feel plain and it is such a stupid thing to feel because I am a maiden goddess and yet since i've become mortal a part of me wishes to feel desirable. I do not understand it, I feel disgusted with myself. I am by no means beautiful compared to the other goddesses but is it wrong to wish I was sought after?" Artemis at some point looked down into her lap, her hands playing with her thumbs. It was beyond upsetting to think that suddenly she cared what she looked like.
"I think you're beautiful." Artemis's head shot up to stare at him and noticed he was frowning heavily. "You are by far the most beautiful goddess on Olympus. You're even up there with my mom on too beautiful women." Amusing dripped from his voice as he said that, a teasing tint to his voice. "Seriously though, You are beautiful Artemis. Not just physically but on the inside too. You're unapologetically yourself. You don't care what the other god's have to say about your opinions and you truly couldn't give a damn about any man who approaches you. You don't expect others to support you continuously and you do what you desire."
He took a glance at her before continuing, "Artemis, you truly are beautiful. You don't need to have all those curves and flashy clothes to prove it. You could stop a man dead in his track in just what you're wearing right now, of course it be better with the cowboy hat." He teased her.
Artemis heart beat heavily in her chest as she stared at this man who went well out of his way to make sure she was alright. She didn't understand why he was doing this and it really made her awkward.
"Why are you being so nice, Perseus? What are you trying to get at." Artemis demanded, she felt nervous and she couldn't understand why he was doing all of this.
"Artemis" Percy frowned, moving his right hand and resting it on her shoulders he rubbed her back slightly. He sure was being rather bold but he wanted to comfort the goddess and he wanted to make sure that she was happy. The goddess would be around him for awhile and he didn't want to have her mope about sadly. It would upset him.
"All I want is to see you happy, I'd like to consider us friends right seeing as you've decided to stick around with me. I'd hope to make you happy. That's all. I want to make this experience with you as easy going as possible. I also would like to help you live a little." He gave her a gentle smile before they fell into a comfortable silence.
After 15 minutes of driving in silence Artemis could tell his ADHD was bothering him and she couldn't help the amusement that graced her. "You can't play music, Perseus."
Percy glared at her slightly for the use of his full name but ultimately played music from his phone. Now, never text and drive kids remember that. Well he wasn't really texting but he was using his phone. Well- You get the point. George Ezra softly played through the speakers in his truck and the grin that spread across his face was almost contagious.
A soft but upbeat rhythm played through the speakers and Artemis found herself enjoying it. It was just gentle music, a song about what seemed to be a couple trying to navigate their way through life. The man is promising that the girl can do it. Artemis laughed as Percy nodded along to the song and almost had a heart attack when he suddenly pointed his finger right in her face and sang like his heart depended on it.
"You don't have to be there, babe. You don't have to be scared, babe. You don't need a plan of what you wanna do. Won't you listen to the man that's loving you"
Artemis laughed laughed with him as she joined in on his singing, " Your world keeps spinning and you can't jump off but I will catch you if you fall. I can't tell you enough I hate to hear that you're feeling low, I hate to hear that you won't come home!"
The two we're grinning like madmen and on both parties it made them happy. When was the last time that either of them could claim to be happy like this? To enjoy someone's company and not feel judged. Artemis didn't even know the words to the song but they sang together like they had for years. Percy's voice wasn't great but it made the moment all the more amusing. He was just being plain old Percy and that seemed to be enough.
After the continuous joy of singing random songs (mostly George Ezra) They finally pulled up to their destination. Artemis glanced around at the hills and slight trees curiously. She glanced back at Percy who had suddenly materialized a backpack out of thin air. He had both of their hats in his hand and winked at her. Stepping out of the truck Artemis made her way over to Percy, taking the hat she had been wearing earlier out of his hand and placing it on her own head. She gave him a wink and started to walk over to a sign that read, "CLEVELAND NATIONAL FOREST".
Artemis eyes widened slightly as she realized he had brought her to a forest. Although she no longer felt such a heavy connection to the forests as a mortal she still felt at home. She could hear the birds chirping in the background and excitement laced through her. She grabbed a hold of Percy's hand, poor man had just walked over to her, and started to drag him in. He laughed and followed after her. Personally, he had been planning to come here on his own eventually and experience the nature so that's how he knew of its existence. He was glad that he didn't have to experience the beauties of the forest alone.
Following the fence Artemis took a deep breath of the fresh air, letting her lungs fill and expand with air that wasn't soiled from pollution. This truly was a gift. Artemis didn't even mind when once again Percy played music softly out of his speaker. Artemis went to let go of his wrist but he intertwined their hands and started off. Artemis didn't care to correct him, enjoying the comfort it brought. Together the two walked around pointing our sights and animals.
About an hour and a half into their walk they stumbled across a small pond with a water fall. Percy could feel the water flowing through it and he was curious to see what it was. Before he could get a closer look Artemis pushed him in and laughed as he spluttered and came up, jaw wide as he stared at her.
"Hey! Cmon now Arty! That isn't fair!" Before Artemis could grasp what was going on he had launched upwards and grabbed her, dragging her into the water with him.
Coming up for air, she glanced around and was breathless at the beauty of the area. The waterfall was small and the area was fairly quiet. There was a cave to the back right that really interested her but decided it was best to leave it alone.
"Cmon! I'll help you up Moonbeam!" Percy grinned at her, his hand extended out.
Grabbing his hand Artemis hoisted herself up and was quick to notice that she was dry. Raising an eyebrow at the demigod he just shrugged at her. Continuing on their walk they spent the whole day just talking softly about the nature and random things. Percy would randomly burst into song much to Artemis's amusement. At one point they found themselves on a wooden area, with information panels overlooking a valley. It was a curious sight, Artemis had to admit. There they had their lunch, eating in silence. They rested on the wood for a little longer, the sun beating down on them.
The sun warmed her bones and she couldn't help the content sigh that escaped her throat. It was peaceful here, Artemis could stay there for forever. The smell of the ocean and spice, a combination that oddly worked together, filtered through her nose. She couldn't help the calming affect all of this had on her so she didn't even notice that she had fell asleep, her head on Percy's shoulder. Percy himself and realized she was asleep and tentatively rested his head against hers. He too ended up falling asleep but he was the first to wake up.
Rubbing the sleep from his eyes he looked up to see the sun had started to set ever so slightly. His eyes widened slightly and shook Artemis, trying to wake her up. Rather quickly her eyes shot up and she looked at him. Her neck hurt and she groaned rubbing at the muscle. She also soon came to realize that it was rather late in the day compared to earlier. Without having to discuss, they both stood up and got ready to complete the journey back to the truck. It took roughly an hour and a half. By this time the sun had already set and they once again held the others hand to make sure no harm befell them.
Percy came upon an area that was devoid of trees, it wasn't much when they first entered the park but it definitely held a new meaning at night. Artemis had stopped besides him and followed his eyes to notice that he was staring at The Huntress. Artemis smiled softly and the constellation based off her late best friend.
Percy cleared his throat, the sorrow evident in his voice as he spoke almost in a mumble, "Bob says hello." Shaking his head Percy kept up on the trial hoping to get to the truck as soon as possible.
Artemis had watched that interaction carefully, wondering what he had meant but not wanting to bother him. She was definitely thinking of the car ride home and sleep.
Throne Room on Olympus
The 12 god's of the Olympian Counsel we're all sat upon their thrones. Multiple conversations could be heard throughout the room. Zeus sat upon his throne, his eyes flickering between the two empty thrones of his twins. Zeus had realized that maybe he had punished them too severely and was planning to hopefully release them from this curse soon. He didn't want to seem like he was a push over so he would wait. He was mostly worried about Artemis, wondering how she was coping to this. He had faith in Apollo more then Artemis. The boy had experience being subjected to Mortality.
"Iris. Show me a one way IM of Artemis, California." Zeus thundered out, his brows creased.
None of the god's were ready to see Artemis curled up on a bridge with Percy Jackson. Even Poseidon seemed shocked that she was with him. Athena was staring at the area around them in a calculating gaze, her eyes hard.
"It would appear they're in Cleveland National Forest." The wisdom goddess called out, a frown on her face. None of them were to sure what to say or even do.
Zeus was slowly turning red and he turned to face Poseidon, "POSEIDON. WHY IS YOUR SON WITH MY DAUGHTER."
Poseidon was not one to back down and he glared at Zeus, "How would I know, Brother. According to the ancient laws i'm not allowed to speak or visit my son unless he seeks me out first."
Hestia, the peacekeeper, was quick to speak up, "Why don't we check up on Apollo and see what Percy has to say tomorrow?"
The other god's seemed to agree to this and asked for an IM of Apollo to be brought up but this was not forgotten. They would investigate.
Whew! I wanna discuss something's and ask others. First and foremost, I know it seems like i'm just diving into the relationship between the two but right now I feel it's more them trying to comfort the lonelier parts of their souls and they trust one another. Secondly, Monsters aren't really gonna be a big deal in the book, maybe one here or there but this isn't someone Chaos kinda book. It's just coming to terms with yourself. Finally! I'm curious if y'all like the way I write. I usually have it set around one person in the third perspective but also sometimes including others thoughts. If y'all would prefer just strictly one person lemme know! thanks for reading!
