I don't own Hetalia okay? This story is really growing from where I started it and I am glad for those of you who liked it so. It really means a lot to me that you do. Anyway, enough of this A/N, on with the fic!
"Well I wasn't expecting that..." Alfred said as they headed to the car. Natalya had told them that she was going to speak with Toris and his parents and they would come by to visit the twins, knowing how much Dmitri and Nikita looked up to Natalya and Toris. "Although part of me knew that Toris was thinking about it, but I didn't know if he'd ask that soon."
"While I do not think he could do it, I do not want him to hurt Natalya at all..." Ivan said sternly as he backed out of the parking spot.
"I think he likes her too much to do so." Alfred said. "Although Dmitri will like that Uncle Toris will be around more."
"Well if he does go onto medical school like he plans, then he will be very busy and I know the next part of Natalya's schooling will leave her busy too." Ivan sighed.
"Your sisters are on two ends of the spectrum huh?" Alfred commented as Ivan looked at him curiously. "I mean Katy is so motherly and Natalya is so cutthroat."
"Katyusha can be cutthroat if she wants to be, but she often does not want to be" Ivan said.
Meanwhile, Natalya had followed Toris to where he was talking with his parents about his decision to become an oncologist and the offer from the hospital nearby. Toris had come to this conclusion to do this after getting to know Natalya's family and many of his classmates. "Well son, I hope you find fulfillment in this choice. That is all we want for you." Mr. Laurinaitis said. "I know you are crazy for Natalya so I am glad for you."
"I know you would want me to go back to Lithuania, but I know Natalya would miss her family and I have grown quite attached as well." Toris said as Natalya snuck up behind him.
"Well honestly this gives your father and I a good excuse to move out of Lithuania." Mrs. Laurinaitis said. "While we haven't quite decided where to move to, I am tired of the rain and the cold and want to move somewhere with a lot of sun."
"Well, this area is one to consider." Natalya said. "Yes, we do have some snow in the winter but it would be easier to adjust. I remember vaguely as it was when I was young when we moved here from Russia, my siblings and I and it made it easier to get used to it."
"I will think about it." Mrs. Laurinaitis said. "But I am sure Toris told you that we had been thinking about either Spain or Florida."
"It rains a lot in Florida." Toris said. "Mr. Alfred, Natalya's brother-in-law had told me of a time when his parents took him and his brother to Disneyland and it got rained out half the time."
"Well we will have plenty of time to settle that." Mr. Laurinaitis said.
"That would be best." Natalya said.
"But no matter what, we must figure out things like the date and where you will have it, just so much!" Mrs. Laurinaitis said hugging Natalya.
"Let us have some time to get settled before we plan that." Natalya laughed, pushing Mrs. Laurinaitis back
"Let the girl breathe." Mr. Laurinaitis smiled as he took his wife's hand. "And yes, she does have a point that she and our little Toris need some time to get everything together." Mrs. Laurinaitis nodded "Besides, we are going to take you two to this 5 star French place we read about in the travel guide."
"What place?" Natalya asked. Please do not be that place that Francis is head chef at.
" It's a place called, La Petite Fontaine" Mrs. Laurinaitis said. "Why?"
"No real reason, just curious." Toris smiled. "Now we must really get to the apartment we had rented. It may not be furnished well yet, but it's to get started with. Natalya's job may be labeled as an 'internship' but it is one that pays quite well as she works on her MBA in the fall."
"Sounds fine." Mr. Laurinaitis said. "Now meet us at our hotel at 4 tomorrow."
"Will do!" Toris said as he guided Natalya back to his car and opened her door. "I don't see the real problem with La Petite Fontaine."
"Francis works there." Natalya sighed. "I am not too fond of that Frenchman."
"Well he's the head chef. I sincerely doubt he would go out his way to talk to you if you two are on such terms." Toris sighed. "Besides, Mr. Alfred told me that while he loves the job, there are stressor that have him smoking, despite Arthur's displeasure. So to see you there and come out to be berated while at work, would not be something he would do."
"Makes sense..." Natalya admit. "But, we have our own place, no one to disturb us now, and well..."
"Are you thinking we 'retire early in celebration'?" Toris asked.
"Precisely." Natalya smiled.
The twins were excited to hear about the fact that Toris and Natalya were getting married and as soon as Ivan had told them, Nikita insisted on being the flower girl. "You let this Mr. Honda guy who we don't know have us at his."
"I guess I did..." Alfred blushed and he supposed it had been awhile since he had Kiku over for an in person game night. He had arranged a few over the internet but it wasn't as fun as when he was over. But during the past few months they had both been very busy and could never arrange a time to meet up. "You have a point. Let me call Mr. Honda and see when he can come over and meet you."
"Yeay!" The twins smiled.
"You two are very sociable." Ivan smiled. While it was true they were not biologically his, he liked the fact that like Alfred, they were very friendly and wanted to meet new people. This may change as they got older but Ivan had remembered what he was told that he was a very shy child and this would mean that his children would be the social butterfly that he saw Alfred to be and they would not miss out on a thing in life. "I am sure Mr. Honda will like you two. He's a friend of your daddy."
"Uh huh...yeah... well I don't want the kids to not meet you before you go through all that. They'll be fine, they love meeting new people. They have Ivan as a Papa, so I doubt you would scare them. I mean Nikita looks up to his sister Natalya and I told you about her. Mei wants to come along? Fine! I mean you are marrying her so they should meet her too if the twins will be in the ceremony. Saturday is good for us. Yeah. See you then dude..." Alfred said as he turned to Ivan and the twins. "Okay, got that sorted out. So Saturday, Mr. Honda and his fiancee is coming to meet you two."
"Cool!" Nikita said.
Saturday came fast as after lunch, Kiku and Mei had knocked on the door to the house, to be greeted by Nikita and Dmitri who had run and hugged both their legs. "Hello!" They said at the same time as Mei picked up Dmitri and smiled at him, while Kiku blushed and looked around awkwardly as Alfred came up to them.
"Hey guys. See you met the twins already." Alfred blushed. "They are quite the balls of energy. Guys, let these two come in, have some air."
"Okay Daddy." The twins replied as they stood by Alfred's legs.
"Oh they are so adorable." Mei smiled. "Honestly I cannot wait to have some children of my own."
"Well, it's quite something else." Alfred smiled as he saw Kiku's dread at that. "Now you are going to be worried you will never be good enough for your kiddos but you are, no matter how much you may doubt yourself. You won't be perfect but it's one of the best things in the world. Even when you have to wash a lot of bed sheets."
"Daddy!" Nikita moaned. "I told you it wasn't me, it was Hero, Koshka and a squirrel who come into my room and pee peed all over my bed!"
"Do not feel bad." Ivan said as he picked up Nikita, "Your grandpa told me your daddy had much the same problem you did when he was your age."
Alfred blushed at this, knowing it would help Nikita to not be ashamed of her bed wetting accidents, it did not mean it was any less embarrassing. "I am going to have to tell my dad about talking about things like that."
"It's okay Daddy." Nikita said. "You grew out of it."
"Like you will." Alfred said as he picked her up
"No, Hero, Koshka and the squirrel will grow out of it..." Nikita insisted.
"Sure they will." Alfred nodded and noticed the dish that Kiku was holding. "Smells good."
"Thank you. Mei insisted we bring something over, she made Taiwanese pork buns." Kiku said.
"I figured we should be good guests. I figured we would just have a small gaming day, because Kiku-san missed them so much with you Alfred. But I wanted to include these two cuties, because like you and Kiku agreed, they don't know us too well and I want to get to know them as well."
"Well I don't want them playing too many video games," Ivan said.
"Of course not. And I brought over Wii Sports and Minecraft. They are good for little ones and the Wii Sports gets them playing." Mei said. "And do not worry, I made the straps for the Wii remote so they will stay on their little hands.
Much of the afternoon was spent with Kiku, Mei and Alfred playing games with the twins, who in their usual tradition they had come up with when they meet new people, they had demanded that Kiku and Mei play Candy Land with them. Alfred could tell that Kiku was still rather shy about being around the children, but had assured them, though many mouthful of Mei's pork buns that the fact the twins made sure they played Candy Land with them meant that they liked them as it was their favorite game, although Dmitri seemed to really like Minecraft and found the turtles, axolotls and creepers cute, although when he ran into an Enderman he did get scared and cried into Ivan's shoulder, who took a long time to calm back down. It was a very pleasant day and at the end of it all, when Kiku and Mei did go home, Nikita and Dmitri did not want them to go.
"Can you stay?" Nikita pleaded.
"Sorry but we have to go home." Kiku smiled apologetically, who had slowly opened up to them as they had played.
"But Ms. Mei's pork buns are delicious." Nikita said, who had eaten the buns as greedily as Alfred did.
"Well I can give your daddy and papa my recipe." Mei offered.
"Okay..." Nikita said. "Give it to Papa, he cooks most stuff better..." With this Alfred blushed. "Although Daddy makes great hamburgers, don't feel bad."
"Kids, painfully honest." Alfred laughed.
"That they are." Kiku said. "All you ever really could do in college when you did not eat at the dining hall was things in the microwave." Ivan laughed at this, remembering that when Alfred was his roommate, this was much the same issue. "We will contact you when the fittings for the wedding outfits are to be done."
"We are looking for a September wedding but may be a little later. But I know someone who is good at tailoring the kind of outfits I am looking for and they can make a version of the wedding kimono for the twins that will grow with them."
"Sounds lovely." Ivan said.
"Bye bye!" Nikita and Dmitri said as Kiku and Mei bowed and headed home.
"I would say the twins won't have a problem being their ring bearer and flower girl." Ivan said.
"Nope. Glad that they like Kiku and Mei, kind of miss hanging out with the guy." Alfred said.
It had been a few weeks since graduation and Natalya and Toris had settled into their apartment and she was set to begin her new internship job and Toris was enrolled in the hospital's medical school work study program. In the recent days, Natalya had been feeling sick and noticed that her period was late. Noting that before, during and after finals, and graduation night, she had slept with Toris, fear struck her. We used protection! This can't be right! Natalya looked at the test in her hand Shit shit shit shit shit…. I knew I should not have trusted the condom we had obtained from the school health department she thought as she looked down at the test in her hand. It was hardly a month after graduation and she and Toris had both finally earned their degrees with honors and she had a very well paid internship in the business field before she was going to head on to get her MBA. She was glad Toris found a good oncologist program when Katyusha had given birth at the hospital, and his parents were looking to retire outside of Lithuania, making his decision on that matter easier. She had wanted to originally work outside the country, back in the land of her birth and thought that maybe even Lithuania or Belarus was acceptable to her but couldn't quite get herself to want to leave the same country as her brother and sister and her nieces and and Dmitri were upset that they could not come over as much as they had when they were studying for finals, so Natalya did not want to know how they would be if she was thousands of miles away. Looking at the test, her heart raced. If this wasn't a false positive, then she knew her life was pretty much ruined if this was not the case. Sure Toris could provide and she had a good degree and job potential but she could not mother and have a career at the same time in her mind. This was not supposed to happen until she was on top and could easily take a back seat and raise the child comfortably. "This was all because I let my happiness get to my head." She said as she kicked the trash can. She did love Toris, but settling down was not something she was wanting to do right now. "I cannot call Vanya, he'd kill Toris and then kill me." She then looked at her phone and remembered how Katyusha swore she would never think any different of her sister no matter what she did.
Storming out of the bathroom, she headed to her car and drove to Katyusha and Matthew's house, timing it so that it was just that he had left for work, which was often when the baby was asleep. Once she was sure Matthew had left, she knocked on the door to their house and tapped her foot nervously. "Just a minute…." Katyusha said as she headed to the door and opened it, with great surprise to see Natalya. "Natalya! I wasn't expecting you."
"Yes…." She looked around to make sure Katyusha was the only one home. "Can I speak with you inside big sister?"
"Sure." Katyusha said as she ushered her baby sister in, noticing the indomitable woman was in some sort of distress. "I have some tea if you would like a cup while malenʹka kokhana donechka is asleep." Natalya walked in quickly but quietly shutting the door behind her not wanting to wake her niece. She sat at the table in the modest kitchen and looked at her older sister with concern. "Is everything alright baby sister?"
"Not exactly…." Natalya sighed. "I think I might be pregnant." She said.
"That's wonderful!" Katyusha smiled.
"It's not." Natalya began. "I would have ended up putting all that work in for nothing. My dreams are shattered!"
"You can work and have a child." Katyusha said. "How did all this begin?" She asked knowing a lot was on her normally composed sister's mind.
"Well after graduation Toris and I were both very happy with our degrees. He's working with a local hospital as a radiation technician and was going to become an oncologist with their program they have to help sponsor his medical school studies when I said I was going for my MBA. But anyway, we celebrated a bit after graduation, one thing led to another and well, I had noticed my period was a few days late so I took a test and it came up positive. And before you ask, yes we did attempt to use protection. I made him wear a condom and I was current with my birth control."
"Have you taken any antibiotics?" Katyusha asked.
"Well there was that strep throat infection I had a few weeks ago I just finished the medicine regime…." Natalya said.
"Well one of the common things that happens while on antibiotics is that your birth control will be less effective. The condom could have broken, it's not unheard of." Katyusha said. She could tell this was not what Natalya wanted to hear. "But you did say you were only a few days late and it was just a home pregnancy test?"
"I do not want to sound cheap but I had just picked it up at the dollar store so I could hide it in a bunch of purchases and act like it doesn't matter…." Natalya said. "I really do love Toris and he would be a good father. Just not now."
"You could have gotten a false positive. Go to the doctor and have then run a proper test." She said. "And if you are serious about Toris, so much so that you agreed to marry him, this is a conversation you two need to have eventually." She noticed how Natalya looked at that. "And I will not tell anyone. Not Matvey, not Fredka, not even Vanya. This is our secret. But you must get the truth from a doctor. And you must talk to Toris about this, even if it is a false positive. There will be a day where it is not."
"I would hate to see how big brother would be to Toris if I told him. Even if it is a false positive, I remember how he was when you told them you were expecting, with you married." Natalya sighed. "Good thing patient records are private."
"They are." Katyusha said. "I was scared to tell Matvey when I first became pregnant with Charlotte because he had just lost his job. You remember how he was at Thanksgiving." Natalya nodded. "But get a doctor's appointment and test this out. It may be nothing to worry about and however you handle this, I will not think any less of you." She said hugging her little sister.
"Thank you big sis..." Natalya sighed.
"You must really be in distress as you haven't called me sis in a long time." Katyusha laughed.
"Don't rub it in." Natalya said. "I think I will go make that appointment." She said breaking free from her sister's tight hugs.
"Best of luck and I hope you get the answer you look for." Katyusha said.
"Me too." Natalya said with dread.
So how was that? Good? Bad? Short? Long? Let me know in a review. I had that situation at the end with Natalya planned for awhile but needed a time to put it in and it finally came. So anyway, that aside, remember to read (well you just did) and to review. Ciao for now,
