I do not own Hetalia okay? I love all of you who have stuck with this story so far as long as it is in. I have an idea of where to wrap this up and where to start the sequel as there's lots of fun to have with this family. Anyway enough of this A/N, on with the fic!
"Uggghh..." Alfred said as he woke up to the door bell ringing. "Just who is coming in this freaking early? It's my birthday damnit and the fireworks and crap like that isn't until after sunset."
"I'll get it." Ivan said rubbing his eyes. "The children are likely going to be awake from it anyway."
"Fine." Alfred sighed as he laid back in bed.
"Papa!" Nikita said as she ran up to him. "That looks like Grand-tante Lucy!"
"Yeah it kind of does..." Dimitri said as he followed his sister out of his bedroom and to the door.
"She's rather early..." Ivan sighed as he opened the door. And Nikita can say Grand-tante easily but grand-père always turns into grand pear. Funny... Noticing the clock on the wall, he saw it was now 9:30 in the morning. Okay not that early then... He opened the door to see that indeed, Lucille was standing there.
"Oh...what is it... dobroye utro?" Lucille asked.
"Yes, that's correct. You know Russian?" Ivan asked. Before the party he had only met her at his and Alfred's wedding and then again at Matthew and Katyusha's but both times, this was only in passing and she did not speak too much to him.
"Not much I am afraid..." Lucille sighed. "But we are looking to expand operations into Russia and partner with some Russian corporations and I do like to know the native language of the other partners I am working with. Most of the time it breaks down into English anyway, but it always leaves a better impression."
"So what brings you here today?" Ivan asked as the twins ran up and hugged Lucille around her knees. "See you made quite the impression on them." he added with a smile.
"Well I did promise these two a game of Candy Land." She smiled.
"Oh, you did huh tante Lucille?" Alfred said as he came down the stairs. Ivan looked over and noticed that how he said tante reminded him a lot of a Cajun cook he had seen on television once before speaking French when talking about some of Louisiana's famous recipes. "Well you passed a major test if they wanted you to play Candy Land with them." Alfred smiled as he picked up Nikita.
"Yes, that's the game they play with those they like." Ivan added as he picked up Dimitri. "They insisted we play when we were first introduced, and they love playing with my sister and her fiancée..." He added with a slight sigh at that.
"Stop being so harsh on the guy, Natalya likes him, and he likes her, that should be good enough for you." Alfred smiled.
"I am trying my dear." Ivan sighed.
"But she's your baby sister, I get it." Alfred replied.
"Oh, and I will make breakfast. It's so nice to actually be able to have more time to do so." Lucille said as she headed into the kitchen. Why is it most all our guest seems to want to cook for us lately? Ivan thought as he set Dimitri down in his booster seat and looked over at Lucille who noticed his expression. "Nature of my business has me so busy I often do not get a chance to eat much that's actually homemade. It's often something on the run or something I can just stick in the microwave. Or if I am in a hotel on business, the free breakfast provided. Sometimes I have time to enjoy the waffles, others it's grab a muffin and a juice and head out. But I am going to be here a little while because you know the deal is going through but transfers and all that real estate stuff takes a while."
"So you'll be here more often Grand-tante Lucy?" Dimitri asked.
"For a few more days, yes." She said as she ruffled his hair. "You see Lili, Eliza and I have rented one of those Airbnb houses or something like that while we sort things out and get involved with the local community. Last time we tried to stay at a hotel for that long a period of time, poor Liili was traumatized and Eliza and I got in a fight over who was better at poker."
"You." Alfred sighed.
"Yes." Lucille smiled. "I did teach you almost everything I know." She then turned back to Alfred. "Almost. You never want to display your full hand." She then looked in the cabinets. "I know I will help watch Charlotte and look after Mathieu and Katyusha's house for an evening. Those two need it bad."
Alfred blushed at what his aunt said, knowing what the it was, and when Ivan caught on, he blushed as well. Alfred looked at Ivan and shrugged as if to say Well she didn't say it like Papa does…." Yeah, I get what you mean, often if we want a date night, we'll call up Ivan's sister and her fiancée,"
"Aunt Natalya and Uncle Toris?" The twins perked up and smiled.
"See?" Alfred shrugged at his aunt.
"Oh, children will always have their favorites." Lucille sighed. "But we are still going to play Candy Land you two?" She added with a playful pout.
"Of course. And you have to see Daddy and Mr. Allen at their baseball game this weekend." Nikita pleaded.
"We'll see how busy your Grand-tante is before we make too many plans malen'kiye, da?" Ivan sighed.
"Okay…" The twins sighed.
"I swear, how they do that, I will never know…." Alfred said.
"You and Mathieu used to talk like that when you were little." Alfred looked up at Lucille confused. "Oui, I remember the times I could see you and the tapes that Francis sent me…. well, the ones that didn't get mixed up with one of him and Arthur…." She shuddered at the mix up that Francis had sent her claiming it was a Christmas where the boys had gotten a new hockey set for Matthew as he had outgrown his old one for the peewee team and a Super Nintendo for Alfred and Matthew to share, even though it had turned out Alfred had played it more than Matthew did. She had just started working with Eliza in her spa resort and growing that with her business acumen. So, Francis had sent her a video tape of Christmas, so sorry that his beloved baby sister could not make it he promised to send her a recording of it. Unfortunately, that was not the only recording done on Christmas that got labeled poorly. By the time Lucille had gotten it, she had read the tape that had merely read Christmas and as she hit play she would forever be haunted with the opening line of "You won't show this to anyone?" from Arthur.
"Yeah…. Dad and Papa were rather umm…." Alfred said.
"Passionate." Lucille said as she mixed some eggs together. "Now I need to make my famous French Toast. Let me know who can do it better. Me or your papa?"
Matthew looked at Katyusha dreamily. It had indeed been a very long time since he could do something like this for her. Between the hours she worked after he lost his job to help support them, and the whole pregnancy, and taking care of Charlotte, there was little time for them to just spend together. One thing he had been told by Gilbert, Francis, Arthur and even a little by Alfred was that while the children were important, it was important they had time for themselves every now and again. And he had to admit to himself he loved making Katyusha smile. She was wearing the dress she had worn on New Year's Eve when Matthew had been introduced as the new junior anchor who had stolen the show, or at least the hearts of many of the women who watched it. Much like Gilbert had wanted to get the ratings up. "This place is so fancy Matvey," She blushed.
"Well, this is what Feliciano wanted to give as a gift after hearing about Charlotte's birth." Matthew smiled. "It's a dinner from start to finish on the house."
"And when we get back to the house, we really need to get you to change into something more suiting you…." Katyusha said as Matthew blushed. He knew well what outfit she was talking about that she liked.
"Yeah…I mean…. oh boy…." Matthew said putting his hand behind his back. He couldn't lie, he did want to be with Katyusha like that, and it had been a rather hard time on him, but he didn't want to push her until she had felt ready to and they had a moment of peace with Charlotte. She loved to sleep during the day and woke up frequently at night needing the usual feedings and changings, but it had seemed that she had a habit of waking just before Matthew as to get up and start getting ready for work. He was never one to deny Katyusha a few moments of peace even though most of the time she was already up by the time he had finished heating up the bottle and had changed Charlotte and put her in her onesie for the day like a pro.
Rolling her eyes, she kissed him on the lips and then placed her finger on them. "I will take that as a yes."
"Good thing my aunt Lucille took Charlotte for the night. Can't believe that she does so much, and that Elizabeta and Lili would put up with the baby." Matthew smiled.
"Ciao!" Feliciano said as he came over with a smile. "You must be Matthew and Katyusha. I've wanted to see you. I know you took over for my dear Luddy when he got that job offer at a national station."
"Yeah, it was a bit of a drive to get here." Matthew said.
"I know. It has been a good bit of work to get started in the big city, but Luddy is so tactically minded he suggest I start in the suburban outskirts and then when we get bigger and more famous then we can move into as they say "the big time". I hope you will find it good. Gilbert had told me you two had been so busy with the baby that I knew the best thing I could give you for the piccola bambina was a romantic evening." Feliciano smiled. "Delivered to you by yours truly."
"Really invested in the service here huh?" Matthew smiled.
"Si" Feliciano smiled. "I will give you a few minutes to look over the menu and I'll give you some of my favorite Chiaramonte wine for you to enjoy."
Katyusha looked over the menu, not used to such fancy faire herself. Is this the world that we will be in with Matvey's fame? She pondered looking at the menu and seeing the various pasta dishes listed with creamy sauces and buttery dishes that some of the appetizers mentioned. "Uhhhhhh Matvey, I know your papa is the head chef at a fancy place, have you gone to a lot of other fancy restaurants growing up?"
Matthew smiled. "Fanciest was honestly on Papa's birthday. You know how he is. Because Al and mine's birthdays were so close and Papa's not so long after, Dad often combined where we went, which was more often than not some burger joint or as I was able to talk him into when he got older, a steakhouse. And with Dad's, well that ended up at some Pub-like style place because he missed some of the stuff from back in England. Honestly then, I just got the fish and chips like Al did." Matthew paused. "It was funny seeing Papa find something to eat on the menu and then act like he liked British food." Katyusha giggled. "Non birthday family outings weren't to the finest places. I mean he's calmed down a bit since then, but could you imagine Al in a place like this without your brother to keep him calmed down?"
"I guess that would be the case…." She smiled. "But what about how fancy this is?" She looked down at her waist.
"Katy, you may not believe me, but I doubt you have gained much if anything since Charlotte was born. I haven't noticed any changes in you from before the baby to now." Matthew assured her.
"You're being nice." Katyusha said as she sipped her wine.
"I mean it. I knew you might be worried about things like that, but you are just as beautiful as the day we met." Matthew assured her. "No matter how many girls may make a pass at me, you're the only one I could want. Besides, my papa always says that sex is a great form of exercise."
"You're so crude sometimes." Katyusha laughed as she playfully slapped him with the menu. "But I think I may need to join you in that workout session."
"So has the happy couple decided yet?" Feliciano said as he placed a salad at each of them and an appetizer of whipped ricotta with pecorino, evoo, crushed almonds, black pepper, honey on toast. "I figured you could start out with this. It's one of our most popular appetizers and a Caesar salad for each."
"Thanks." Matthew said.
"I figured out what I want." Katyusha said firmly. "The creamy saffron and some eggplant parmigiana. Did Gilbert not say you bring most produce in from local sources?"
"Si!" Feliciano replied.
"Well, I would have…." Matthew paused. He was just like Katyusha that he wasn't as used to fancy cuisine, especially when one of his parents was a French gourmet chef. Italian was not had very often unless it was a pizza place. This is what happens when your dad can burn cereal, your brother would live at a McDonalds and live on that and that alone and your papa is a gourmet chef. You end up with average tastes…. funny…. or is it that Al and I can be more alike than we think of…. which means I have his taste…. but it is still slightly better than Dad's I guess…. "Ummm the Salmone Affumicato looks good…"
"Great! I'll get to that right away!" Feliciano said as he took the menus. "Have a good time."
"So, what was in that Salmone Affmicato?" Katyusha asked.
"Menu said something like 'Alder wood smoked salmon, gorgonzola, blush sauce.'" Matthew replied. "What was your creamy saffron? I know it's a seasoning…. and I know what eggplant parmigiana is."
"Oh, it was Italian sausage, cooked with garlic and white wine with saffron and cream sauce. Sounded good enough. May be Italian but I still like sausage. Speaking of that, I would like to try and make my own now we have our own house."
"What would you need?" Matthew asked. "I have seen the garden you've been working on is coming along well."
"Well of course it would silly! If there is one skill, I am proud of it is my ability to grow things." Katyusha smiled. "The strawberries in that cake I made for Fredka, and your birthday were from the garden."
"They were some of the bests I had had in a long time, and I am not saying that to flatter you." Matthew said.
"Well, I have some of chudovyy dyadʹko's recipes for food and sausages and the like from back in Russia and I would like to make it better. When I was raising Vanya and Natalya, I hardly ever had the time to dedicate to something like that and frankly some of the neighbors we had in that one apartment would not be too appreciative of the smell…." Katyusha admit. Matthew looked concerned. "Lots of garlic in some of the recipes. Despite what you may think, Eastern Europe uses a lot of that bulb as well."
"Well, that would be pretty cool, passing on the family traditions." Matthew smiled. "And who knows," he said as he sipped some of his wine. "If we have too much fun afterwards, Charlotte may have a little sibling here soon."
"Already?" Katyusha laughed. "You know you are not the one with the child growing in you for nine months."
"I was just trying to be flirtatious." Matthew said as Katyusha bit down on some of the ricotta toast, with the cheese left on her lips as she swallowed, causing Matthew to reach over the table and kiss it off her lips. "I have never been happier with anyone else. I never dreamed I'd have all this, and you were the one to help give it to me."
"Food's here." Feliciano said as he placed the plates down. "Buon appetito!"
"Thanks." Matthew said. "Want to try some of mine?" he offered Katyusha.
"If you let me give you some of mine." Katyusha laughed.
"Deal." Matthew smiled.
It was a steamy day as Natalya looked at the card Lucille had given her. She had just gotten back from the first day of her internship with a sigh. It was not as fulfilling as it made out to be by her professor. "I really should drop that accounting textbook on my professor's foot. As big as it is and heavy as it is…."
"Everything okay 'Talya?" Toris said as he looked up from an article on what to expect as a first-year medical student.
"No." Natalya admit as she took off the blazer and hung it up carefully. "This place's air conditioner is not working well."
"I know. I've called the superintendent about it, and they say they called a repair man." Toris sighed.
"By then it will be time to get the heater repaired. I can take cold much better than this heat." Natalya sighed.
"And you look good in sweaters." Toris said kissing her on the cheek.
She sighed and looked at Toris. "Will you be able to handle this all? I have read many of the articles you have on this matter. I will be working on my MBA at the same time."
"I think we can. And honestly Mr. Alfred really believes in me as well." Natalya rolled her eyes. "I know you do not like your brother-in-law but he's a great encouragement. I like him and am kind of afraid of your brother. He scares me." Natalya looked at him sternly. "I know he's looking out for you. But seeing how he reacted to Matthew and Katyusha's pregnancy last Thanksgiving was scary. They were already married."
Better now than never…she thought. "I was thinking of taking a job at Ms. Bonnefoy's company."
"But this internship you have? It's supposed to be good on your resume?" Toris asked.
"But I am learning jack shit other than what that pig of a boss likes in his coffee and where to pick up his dry cleaning. The men in this program get more hands-on experience. I can respect Lucille and she seemed to actually care about what my goals would be. I can image the company would pay us well enough to live off of while I do my schoolwork…." Natalya said.
"It's up to you. If the internship isn't doing what it is supposed to for you, then maybe look elsewhere. Lucille seemed nice. Give it a shot." Toris smiled as he read an anatomy book. "I don't know how I will handle the dissection part, but it must be done…."
"You are training to be a doctor but would have a hard time with that?" Natalya laughed.
"Shut up, it's the idea that it was a person." Toris sighed.
"Well, they are helping you in death to help understand how to save life if that helps." Natalya replied.
"I'll try to keep that in mind…." Toris said.

So how was that? Good? Bad? Short? Long? Let me know in a review. I looked up a few menus from actual fancy Italian places online to get the idea for the foods, so it wasn't some bad Olive Garden names, I wanted it to be good Italian. I don't know how fast I will be able to update. Work has gotten major crazy and probably won't simmer down for a month at least. But who knows, maybe I can get it done sooner. And I have a kind of timeskip sequel planned but I still need to get this to a spot where I can wrap it up good. So anyway, remember to read (well you just did) and to review. Ciao for now,
