I do not own Hetalia okay? I really want to progress with this little arc, so I am updating this story more often. Things will be getting busier soon so I don't know how fast I can update then. But I plan to get this to you before it gets too crazy. Anyway, enough of this A/N, on with the fic!
Alfred woke up early as the sun started to peek in through the hospital room. Nikita was still asleep as he yawned and got up. Rubbing his eyes, he headed to the cafeteria where he hoped that he could get a cup of coffee or something to eat. He had a parental pass so the security would not give him a hard time for being there after hours. I really should have Vanya bring Nikita a change of clothes, why I didn't think to ask him last night, I don't know… He thought as he turned into the cafeteria to find it reminding him of the food that was often served when he was in college, and it reminded him briefly of when he and Ivan were first assigned as roommates. If you had told me then that we'd be married with two kids right now, I would have said you were insane…. As he headed to the line to get some food to take back to Nikita's room with him, he sniffed under his armpit. Better have Vanya bring me a change of clothes too… Showing the pass, the clerk gave him a plate and he took it back to the room he was sharing with Nikita. She was going to be brought some by the patient cart later, but he was hungry, and it would help keep his mind off things. He opened the door quietly and sat on the chair and texted Ivan what he needed.
Meanwhile, Ivan was stirred awake by the ding of Alfred's text message. He reached over and saw what Alfred was asking for. "You're right, I don't get why we didn't bring some changes of clothes…." He yawned as he sat up and rubbed his eyes. Looking over, he saw Dimitri still curled up holding onto the blanket tightly. That is so precious….. He said as he turned on his phone's camera and took a picture to send to Alfred. This will cheer him up.He thought as he sent the reply. As he smiled, waiting for Dimitri to wake up. He went to the bathroom and took a quick shower to find Dimitri still asleep in the bed. He grabbed a small duffle bag and packed Alfred a change of clothes, a set for Nikita. He took the bag and the Ded Moroz outfit and the gifts and placed them in the back of the car. Noticing Dimitri was still asleep, he shook the boy awake. "Dobroye utro moy sonnyy mal'chik" Ivan smiled as Dimitri woke up.
"Papa." He smiled with a yawn.
"It's time to get up." He spoke. "We are going to first get your aunts and then go see your sister."
"Okay." Dimitri said as he got up. "Your bed is really comfy."
"It is." Ivan said. "But we must get up and get ready."
"Alright." Dimitri said as he headed to his bedroom, followed by Ivan who was nearby in case he needed to help him out.
Alfred looked up as he noticed Nikita waking up. "Daddy." She said.
"You're sounding better." Alfred said.
"Yeah, can I go home now?" Nikita said. "I know you said that you'd call Ded Moroz and see what he could do…. but I'm going to miss him and just Dimitri will get his gifts. And I was really hoping I'd get that game Grunkle Al told me about that I could play with him while he's getting better…."
"Don't worry about it." Alfred said.
"But I am…." She said starting to cry. "All because of a stupid allergy." She pouted. At this Alfred's phone rang. "Who's that?"
"Uhhhh…. Mr. Allen." Alfred said as he pressed the button.
"Hey Porkchop, how's it going?" Allen asked.
"Fine. Just making sure Nikita is okay." Alfred said.
"Oh no." Allen said. "Is she okay? How is the little slugger."
"She has a shellfish allergy it seems. Had to go to the hospital but she's doing better." Alfred said. "So yeah, I'm just waiting for Ivan to come bring Dimitri and his sisters."
"Oh, I will be stopping by then. I want to make sure my favorite little slugger is better for when tee ball season starts up again. That and I have been rather stupid, and I forgot to send over the Christmas gifts." Allen said.
"No, you don't have to do that…." Alfred said as he heard the phone call end on the other line.
"Well, Mr. Allen will be coming over too." Alfred sighed. "He wants to make sure you're okay."
"Mr. Allen?" she asked happily.
"Yep. Wants to make sure you are doing better before the spring season." Alfred said.
"Hello there." The nurse said as she came in. "Let's get you a quick check up."
Ivan had first stopped by Katyusha and Matthew's house who agreed to follow him to the hospital so they could see Nikita and have Ded Moroz bring Charlotte some gifts, even if she would not remember it but it would make for a good celebration for the twins. They had then stopped by Natalya and Toris's to see if they would be able to come along, which both Natalya and Toris agreed.
"What about Feliks?" Katyusha asked as they walked out.
"It's okay." Feliks waved. "I have like a shi- "He began to say but noticed Natalya's look and Toris' sigh he cleaned up his language. "I have a lot of editing to do before tonight for my fans. Could use some time with the house to myself. Promise I won't wreck the place or go through your stuff. May watch your TV while everything is uploading though."
"Fine." Natalya sighed. "I would like to see my niece and make sure she is doing okay."
"Well get in." Matthew said. "I don't have a lot of time here after this."
"I know I know…." Natalya said. "I also have the dress."
"Good." Ivan said as they drove to the hospital, after texting Alfred to let him know they were on their way.
Nikita sat and finished eating the breakfast that the hospital had given her when Allen had come in with a few gifts. "Hey there Porkchop, how's my favorite little slugger?" he asked as she smiled. "I heard you weren't feeling so good. I did miss you at Christmas, so I brought you something, and something for your brother too." He then turned to Alfred. "I'm assuming your man will bring your son too, right?"
"Yeah." Alfred sighed.
"Well, that's good. Wait till your brother gets in here." Allen said. "That way he doesn't feel left out, what with you getting all the attention."
"Doctor says I should be able to go home tomorrow. They have to just run a few more tests." Nikita sighed. "This whole thing stinks. I don't remember Dimitri having to do all this….." She sulked.
"I'm sure he did, you were just too young to remember it." Allen said. "Has it hurt?"
"They were doing a lot of poking….." Nikita said running her hand up her arm. "They took that drippy bag out though. Made sleeping a lot easier."
"I bet it did." Allen said. "I was in the hospital once."
"What were you in for?" Nikita asked.
"Motorcycle accident." Allen said nonchalantly. Nikita's eyes grew wide with amazement, clinging to his every word. Alfred bit his lip in worry that she would get some bad ideas, knowing how much she idolized him. "Someone had nearly cut me off, I was wearing a helmet. Always do that." he added as Alfred nodded. "I fell off and the bike dragged me along. Broke my arm and they thought that even though I had the helmet that I had a concussion."
"What's that?" Nikita asked.
"It's when you hit your head really bad, and it shakes up your brain. And they had to keep me awake. You see when you have a concussion, you can't go to sleep, or they have to wake you up every so often to make sure your brain isn't damaged." Allen explained. "So that really stunk."
"Sounds like." Alfred said.
"Well, isn't this a pleasant surprise." Ivan smiled as he carried Dimitri in, followed by Natalya, Toris, Katyusha, and Matthew.
"Oh hello." Allen said. "You must be Niki's Aunts and Uncles, right?"
"Yes, and who might you be?" Katyusha asked.
"I'm Allen, I play on the same baseball team as Alfred there and Nikita's Tball coach." He introduced himself.
"I remember you from the twin's birthday party." Katyusha said as she handed Matthew Charlotte. "It was so considerate of you to visit Nikita here."
"That and well I forgot to get you guys your gifts before Christmas. So here you go." He said giving Nikita and Dimitri each a box. "Tear it open."
"Awwwww sweet!" She smiled.
"This is an inflatable catch set up, so you can work on pitching." Allen said. "And you Big D?" he asked.
"This is so awesome." He said. "I love the Lego Triceratops."
"Glad you like it." Allen smiled. "Well, it seems it's getting crowded in here." He noticed the room getting cramped. "Tell me when she gets out of this place and is a free woman again Porkchop."
"Will do." Alfred said.
"Will this be our only gifts?" Nikita asked. "I thought you said you called him?"
"That reminds me. I have to go to the bathroom." Ivan said as he snuck out from the crowd.
"Me too." Natalya said as they snuck out and headed back to the car, grabbing the outfits and the gifts, and changed into the costumes, making sure that they weren't easily discernable from what they normally looked like. As they stepped out of the restroom, Ivan smiled at his sister. "So, Ded Moroz, how's that beard? Will it stay on?"
"I don't know, Snegurochka," Ivan smiled as he adjusted the fake beard and lifted the sack over his shoulder. "You are sure that you can breathe with that scarf over your mouth?"
"Yes, but we must make the little children happy with the presents." Natalya said. With this they headed up to Nikita's room with a smile.
"So, how is your recovery coming?" Katyusha asked Nikita.
"Okay." She said.
"That's good to hear." She smiled. "Your dad tells me that your brother was the one that let them know that you were feeling sick. Must have been scary."
"It was." Nikita said as the door opened.
"Zdravstvuyte deti! YA prishel s podarkami!" Ivan said as Natalya followed him in. Alfred smiled knowing what was going on as Katyusha took a few pictures.
"Oh, dear grandfather," Natalya said. "I do not think these two know a lot of Russian yet, do you not remember what their papa and dad said." She replied, laying the accent on thick so that hopefully the twins would not make out the voice."
"I see Snegurochka, silly old me must have forgotten." Ivan smiled. "Now, I was told by Santa to bring you a few gifts, and your dad called me and told me what happened. Instead of missing your gifts, Snegurochka and I decided to bring them to you to wish you well."
"Ded Moroz?" Nikita asked.
"Snegurochka" Dimitri replied.
"Gucha gucha….." Charlotte said pointing at Natalya.
"Oh, who is this little baby?" Natalya asked.
"Our cousin Charlotte." Dimitri said.
"And yes, she's starting to babble. I think she picked up on some of the talk of your visit Snegurochka." Matthew said, knowing that Natalya and Katyusha had worked on the dress, and it was quite possible that Charlotte made the connection.
"She seems really talkative today." Katyusha said as she took a picture. "Now, you came all this way to visit the children?"
"Yes," Ivan said nodding. "We would never miss such a day and we would never want you to be sad. We want you to get better. I have heard all about your recovery and your brave deeds to help your sister." Nikita and Dimitri smiled, Nikita biting her hands in excitement.
"He's really here!" She smiled shaking her brother. "Ded Moroz. Papa wasn't making it up!"
"Well Dad wasn't making Santa up. Why would Daddy and Papa lie about that?" Dimitri asked.
"That's right, why would they lie?" Ivan laughed as he pulled out something from the bag. "For you." Dimitri took the gift and unwrapped the paper.
"Dino Park!" He said jumping up and down. "This is the game where you run your own Dino Zoo."
"I know you wanted the Jurassic Park game, but Ded Moroz said he wanted you to have this one to learn how to play first, when you get older, you might get the Jurassic Park one." Alfred explained.
"Okay." Dimitri saluted. Ivan then gave Nikita a gift. "Let's see what you got Niki!"
Nikita greedily tore the paper when she smiled. "Golf Castle Wonderland. That's the one that Grunkle Al said he plays sometimes and would play with me."
"Oh?" Natalya said, playing up the whole act.
"Yes, you see Snegurochka, he's going to have to get special medicine that will help treat a really bad sickness he's got. We had fun at the driving range, and he has to go back to Scotland to get better here soon. This game is one he plays with some of nieces and nephews and said he could play it with me while he gets better and if he gets better we might actually do full golf and I can show him how awesome I am at baseball." Nikita smiled.
"So good to hear you talk like that. You must be feeling better." Natalya smiled.
"And for Charlotte….." Ivan said as he gave Matthew a large stuffed polar bear that she grabbed and started to chew on. "We made sure that one is good for young babies. Her mother told us all about her teething."
"Yep, thanks for that Ded Moroz." Matthew laughed. God this tradition will get so much bigger when Charlotte gets older and can actually remember this stuff.
"And there is a big gift for each of you. We left it at your house as it wouldn't be easy to carry in the hospital here, but here they are." Ivan said as he gave them each a picture of a bike they had at the house. "A bike for each of you."
"Awesome." Nikita said. "Like Mr. Allen has."
"Mr. Allen?" Ivan asked.
"You see Ded Moroz, Mr. Allen is her baseball coach and told her a story of when he was in the hospital to help her feel better, she really admires him and all, and he told a story of a motorcycle accident." Alfred explained. He could sense Ivan's worry. "Don't worry, Allen told her to wear a helmet and be safe on the bike. He may be rather…..ummmmmm…. unorthodox when it comes to how he talks to kids sometimes but he's great with them. No need to worry that he won't lead them astray. He uses his rough background to help teach children to avoid that themselves. It's his thing. Just because I had a bad life, he's how you can avoid that yourself. He doesn't want to see any child go through anything he did."
"I see." Ivan nodded. "Well, at your home, your fathers have safety gear for you as well so you can learn to ride safely. That is most important. I don't want to have to do this again next year."
"I'm sorry." Nikita said looking down sad.
"Oh, this was not your fault young one." He smiled. "I just know how unhappy it makes your fathers to have them see you hurt is all."
"I'll do my best!" Nikita saluted.
"Oh, one more gift," Toris said bringing it out. "Your aunt and I got it for you knowing how much you like board games. He said as he placed a few boxes on the bed. Nikita took the pink wrapped one and Dimitri the green wrapped one.
"Mr. Bucket!" he smiled.
"And Pretty Pretty Princess! You have got to play this with me and Aunt Natalya when I get out of here!" She smiled looking at Toris.
"Yeah, because you would make such a pretty princess…." Katyusha laughed as Toris rolled his eyes.
"Sounds like something my friend Feliks would say. Just meaner." Toris sighed. "But sure, when you get out of her, we can play these games."
"YEAY!" Dimitri and Nikita smiled.
"Well, we must be off." Ivan said as Natalya nodded. "There are many other children who need us. But it makes me happy to see you doing better."
"I too." Natalya said as they headed out of the room and back to the bathroom to change into their normal clothes. Once done, she met up with Ivan and sighed. "Feels so much better to have that scarf off and to be able to speak freer."
"According to Fredka, that's how I sound when I am frustrated and trying to keep my English." Ivan said, sparing that the 'frustrated' was when they were in bed together and he could hardly think straight in Russian let alone in English.
"You know what they say, you revert to your native language in moments of passion." She sighed.
"I have to take the costumes to the car so I can give Alfred the change of clothes I promised." Ivan said. "Blyat…." he said under his breath.
"What is it?" Natalya asked.
"I grabbed a change of clothes for me." Ivan sighed.
"Nikita is going to be here another night?" Natalya asked.
"Yes." Ivan replied.
"And they let one parent stay the night with them?" Natalya asked.
"Yes." Ivan replied.
"Maybe you should stay with her tonight." Natalya said as they headed back "So Nikita can spend time with her papa and Dimitri have time with his dad. And give Alfred a chance to sleep in a bed that's bound to be more comfortable than a hospital parental cot."
"That's actually not a bad idea….." Ivan paused.
"I'm full of them." Natalya smiled as they walked in. "Oh my, what happened here?" She faked confusion. "This wasn't here when I left."
"You missed it!" Nikita said. "Ded Moroz and Snegurochka came by! They us know of bikes we have at home because they couldn't be carried in the hospital and got Dimitri and I games to play, and Uncle Toris gave us each a new board game I want to play with you when I get out of here." She said holding up the 'Pretty Pretty Princess' game.
"And Mr. Bucket too!" Dimitri smiled.
"I missed so much." Ivan smiled. I missed nothing, but Nikita and Dimitri don't know that. He then turned to Alfred. "I'm sorry but I packed a change of clothes for me."
"Da-ng it" Alfred said catching his swearing.
"But I will stay with Nikita tonight." Ivan said as Alfred looked worried. "She needs to spend time with both her fathers, and this will show I care too. You rode with her here. Have some time in bed to yourself, well maybe not yourself if Dimitri has another nightmare." Ivan smiled as the twins were talking about the presents they got.
"I saw the picture." Alfred said. "Papa said that Matthew and I did something similar when I told him what happened earlier. Maybe some of that twin thing."
"Maybe." Ivan said as he kissed Alfred. "But get some proper rest and keep Dimitri happy. You may be able to help him start that game of his."
"True." Alfred said.
"Oh, and Katyusha, I will look after Charlotte for you." Natalya said. "At your house."
"Feliks isn't being too much of a bother is he?" Toris said, knowing how Natalya felt about him.
"No, of course not." She lied as Toris narrowed his eyes to her. "Okay, no more than Alfred is sometimes. But he made such a long journey, enjoy the new year with him. I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas with him. I'm happy looking after my baby niece."
"If you say so." Toris said, sensing this was not the place to push the issue.
"Hate to rush this affair, but Katy and I must get ready. Gilbert takes the New Year's broadcast seriously." He spoke.
"No problem." Alfred said as he turned to Ivan. "You sure you want to stay; I can do another day and honestly I care more if Nikita has fresh clothes than I do."
"I am certain." Ivan said as he pulled Alfred close and kissed him. "I want to make sure my daughter heals up well."
"If you're certain." Alfred said. "Come on Dimitri, we'll break in some of your games. Don't worry, we'll leave plenty for you Niki when you get back."
"Okay." Nikita smiled. "I'll see you guys tomorrow and I will get out of here soon."
"Indeed." Ivan said.
"See ya later." Alfred sighed. "Make sure Nikita gets cleaned up, there's a shower attached to the room if she needs some help."
"I will." Ivan said. "Make sure Dimitri gets a bath."
"I will." Alfred said. "Get well Niki, do what the doctors and your papa say."
"Will do Daddy." She saluted.
