"Get up son!" The voice of his father echoed throughout his room. Po groaned not being in the mood to get out of bed just yet. He knew what the day had in store for him. It was the same as every other day. Get up, stretch, eat breakfast and practice his knife throwing skills. It was the same as any other day and frankly, he was getting tired of it. Would his father listen though? Absolutely not.
"Why can't we do this later?" Po threw his blanket over his head. "We do this everyday."
"Because today will be different." Okay. That caught his attention. Po lowered his blanket before sitting up and looking at his father. His father was known as Min, leader of the Lin Kuei. Po had only been five at the time when he had learned his father was one of the worst feared assassins in all of China. Now at nearly twelve years of age, his father had trained him in all the skills of assassinations and robberies. Though his father hated to admit it, Po was way better at it than he had ever been. He did take the credit for teaching him everything he knew though. Including the fact that Po was really good at concealing who he really was. While Min was a wolf, Po is a panda. Much more difficult to hide and conceal during robberies in broad daylight.
"Who are we robbing today?" Po raised a brow at his father.
"Today has nothing to do with a robbery son." Min smiled. Po didn't like the look in father's eyes. He had never seen them turn that way before and it kind of frightened him.
Before he knew it, Po and his father were hiding within the bushes of the valley they were currently stationed at, Anyang. One of the oldest capitals and unfortunately one of the higher crime rate ones. His father liked it here because despite all the crime, its leaders did little to stop it. He was sure they were on their way to a downfall no doubt.
"What are we doing father?" Po asked before his father shushed him. Po looked at him annoyed before looking out onto the road once again. A group of children coming by, kicking and tossing a ball around. There were three of them, a young bunny, a goose and a pig. All to be between the ages of eight and ten and were unsupervised. Po would never forget what his father made him do next.
The memory was so vivid in his mind that it would haunt him for years and predetermined how he wished to run the Lin Kuei.
The screams of the children's pain jolted the panda awake in a cold sweat. Po breathed heavily, trying to get his breathing under control. The nightmare hadn't bothered him for years and now he was once again reliving it like it was just yesterday. Nightmares weren't something that should bother a fearless and heartless assassin. It was the fact that it had actually happened. It was a memory he wished to hide in the back of his mind but always found its way back to haunt him.
The assassin panda stood from his bed, quickly changing into his usual fit and grabbed his black cloak. He needed a fresh breath of air and being cooped in his room was not a place for that.
"Couldn't sleep, brother?" He heard the voice of his sister in the darkness of the cabin's main entrance. She stood in a corner of the cabin, playing with a knife in her paws.
"Why are you awake?" Po managed to ask.
"Don't flip the script brother." Nayi stepped into the moonlight, going towards him. "Was it that dream again?"
"It's not a dream." Po defended. "It's a memory."
"Ah yes. How could I have forgotten?" Nayi rolled her eyes.
"Shouldn't you be asleep?" Po looked at her angrily.
"I was. But kind of was in the mood to go kill something." She admitted.
"Nayi," Po glared.
"I know. I know." She rolled her eyes again. "I was just joking. Geez." Po's glare didn't falter as his paw stayed on the door knob. "How about we go rob something instead? Might get your mind off of things." She smiled softly. Po looked at her, still unconvinced that she had been joking but he did need his mind off….that.
"Yeah. Okay." Po nodded before opening the door and the two made their way to the valley.
"Aaaah!" A sheep shop keeper screamed in horror. It had been a normal day for her with opening the shop at the earliest of hours, knowing full well there would be a morning rush in about an hour or so. She did not expect to be robbed so early in the morning.
"We haven't even done anything yet!" Fung complained to the older woman.
"Maybe if we spoke more nicely to her?" Ghari suggested.
"That's not how you rob people!" Fung yelled at him. "You have to use force! Like this." Fung turned back to the lady and threw his helmet to the ground with force. "Empty your cash box lady!"
"Aaaah!" The woman screamed again.
"Ugh." Fung groaned frustratingly.
"Wow, do you even know how to rob properly?" Master Monkey's voice came from the entrance of the shop. Monkey had been in a shop nearby when he heard the woman's scream. It had been a slow week in the crime department, not that he was complaining but he did miss having some action.
"We haven't even done anything to her." Fung deadpanned.
"Actually you yelled at her multiple times." Ghari pointed out. "It's not very friendly." Fung glared at him as if he wasn't already frustrated with the situation.
"Give it up, Fung." Monkey told him unamused. Fung groaned frustratingly, snatching the lady's purse.
"Nah, we don't think so." Fung turned to him. Usually Fung and the crocs were easy to deal with. Not the greatest bandits out there in both doing the thievery or coming up with plans ahead of time. This time though, it was different. Monkey quickly found himself surrounded with croc bandits holding spears. The most surprising part of this was they weren't all crocs. Some wolves joined them all wearing a similar symbol that Monkey recognized.
"Lin Kuei."
Tigress couldn't say she wasn't frustrated because she was. In fact she was so incredibly frustrated with all the evidence laid out in front of her. She and Po had been on Mr Chen's case for a week now and had nothing to show for it. The two had decided to not only focus on the possibility of the Crimson Bear being the guilty one here. If they did, they wouldn't get anywhere. Despite that, no real evidence presented itself to focus one group of bandits or assassins. It couldn't even be narrowed down to the Lin Kuei because of the amount of wolves that lived in the area. The Emperor would allow them to blame it on anyone in the Lin Kuei, given the evidence they had, but it just didn't seem fair to her or Po. They would have to catch a member of the Lin Kuei to even begin to look who to blame for it.
"Anything?" Po asked, coming up behind her. The two were working in an office that Feng had allowed them to use.
"It's like looking for a needle in a haystack." She sighed.
"I've done that." Po chuckles softly. "It's way harder than solving a murder, trust me." He smiled.
"This isn't time to joke Po." Tigress looked at him.
"I'm not joking." Po raised his paws defensively. "Maybe we should take a break. It's been a long day." He yawned, almost on cue, making Tigress yawn as well. Darn contagious yawning.
"Aaaah!" The sound of screaming woke the two investigators and rushed towards the sound.
"Since when did you work with Lin Kuei?" Monkey looked at Fung. "Didn't think of you guys as the smart ones."
"That's just rude man." Fung looked annoyed.
"Sorry." Monkey shrugged. "Just being honest."
"Whatever!" Fung complained. "Attack!" He ordered.
Monkey prepared himself to protect himself from the incoming attack. He was used to being able to take on the croc bandits on his own but with the addition of the wolves from the Lin Kuei, well it was more difficult than it really should be. Thankfully, the years of experience helped avoid the blades of the attacking wolves.
Unknown to him, Fung and Ghari took the opportunity to sneak in further into the shop to get what they were truly there for. The two crocs ran into what seemed to be the storage room and quickly began searching. The sounds of Monkey fighting the Lin Kuei muffled out the sounds of items being thrown.
Fung had no idea why the Lin Kuei asked them for this when they could have easily done this but he supposed them doing it less blood would be spilled.
"Aha!" Fung smiled finding what he had been searching for.
"Aaaaah!" Monkey's scream signaled that they had finished the job. Right on time too.
"Let's get out of here." Fung ordered and he and Fung ran out the back door.
Back in the main entrance of the shop, Monkey clutched his side as it began to bleed out. A wolf standing over him, licking his lips in anticipation.
"Never thought I'd be the one to be the first of the klan to kill a master." He sneered with a chuckle. "This will be fun." He raised his bloody blade again.
Unfortunately for him, a foot struck him in the face making him drop the blade beside Monkey and crashed into an item stand, knocking items over. Angrily, he looked up to see who had done it, only to discover his boss and Master Tigress taking care of the other wolves. He hated that this was the plan but knowing the consequences of saying anything would result in his own demise.
Reluctantly he stood up and went for his blade. Unluckily, Po beat him to the punch. Po smiled down at him, immediately not liking how his boss looked down at him. In a blink of an eye Po punched him in the face, knocking him out cold.
With the wolves tied up, the shop keeper had patched Monkey's wound enough to get him to the hospital. Luckily the wound hadn't been deep enough, not that they could tell anyway, to damage any organs. Po looked at the blade that had been used to damage Monkey, thankfully it wasn't one of his but it was one of the new ones they had acquired from Mr Chen's. It was clear by his signature on the side.
"How did you get this?" Tigress growled at the wolves.
"As if we'd tell you." One of the wolves spat. Po narrowed his eyes at them, holding the knife close. Another wolf smirked, finally freeing his arm and pulled out a smoke bomb, tossing it on the floor and disappearing.
"How did they do that?!" Monkey asked, still holding his side.
"Just another one of the Lin Kuei's tricks." Tigress sighed.
"Let's get you to the hospital." Po handed Tigress the blade before he helped Monkey stand. "You'll bleed out sitting here."
"Thank you." Monkey thanked, leaning against Po. Tigress sighed looking at the blade as Po left with Monkey. It wasn't a large enough blade that would cause permanent damage but still a very strong blade. It was evident why the Lin Kuei had stolen it.
What was still unclear though, why were they working with the croc bandits?
The Lin Kuei wasn't exactly known to work well with others. Something bigger was going on but she wasn't sure what and she was going to find out.
Po's plan might have more than meets the eye...or does it? :)
I don't know you guys will find out...eventually xD
