Chapter 2

Stranger in a Strange Land

MUSUTAFU, JAPAN

2 HOURS LATER, 11:30 PM

After getting over the initial shock of finding out he was in a completely alternate world, the Doomslayer continued to explore the city until he came upon the entertainment district. It was filled with dazzling lights and featured all kinds of venues such as restaurants, bars, movie theaters, and stores. It was also packed to the brim with people enjoying the nightlife, some of which featured the same bizarre physical features the Slayer saw earlier.

One thing he noticed was that everyone was getting along with each other despite their obvious biological changes. This only served to confuse the Slayer further as he took in this new, almost alien environment. It also served to trouble him further. After choosing to stay in Hell to ensure the demons could never invade another world and spending most of his life on Argent D'Nur, he gave up any chance of returning to his home. But now he was on an Earth similar to his own, but with glaring differences. It wasn't the Earth he was born on and it felt so strange.

He continued to walk past the citizens who oddly paid him no mind. Of course, he did garner the attention of two who noticed him.

"Whoah! Check out the armor on that guy! He's gotta be a Pro Hero!

"Well don't bother him. He's probably on patrol."

Again with that Hero crap. The people of this new world kept mistaking him for one. If anyone knew what he was and the kind of horrors he faced, they'd all see him much differently. His actions weren't heroism per se, it was solely rage and vengeance. He saw a crowd gathered around an electronics store looking at a news report on a flat-screen TV in the display window. His curiosity piqued, the Slayer moved towards the back of the crowd and watched what unfolded on screen.

"Earlier today, a 20-story office building caught ablaze due to an electrical fire, trapping the workers inside. Luckily, the fire was extinguished and the people trapped were rescued thanks to the combined efforts of Backdraft, Bubble Girl, and Hawks."

The news showed camera footage of the burning building and rescue crews darting about but it focuses on three individuals at the scene. What they did next caused the Slayer's mouth to slowly fall open in astonishment. A man wearing a firefighter's outfit and a white mask with a single amber eye sprayed fountains of water at the fires via the hose spigots attached to his hands. A water cannon attached to his shoulder sprayed down other areas that were aflame.

From a hole in the damaged building, he saw a multitude of large bubbles emerge forth from it. Within the bubbles were several people inside who were floated down to the paramedics below. A young woman with light blue skin wearing a white, black, and yellow costume that showed off her well-toned abdomen summoned forth a wave of bubbles from her hands that soon formed into a larger, singular bubble.

As she floated down to the bottom, a large bird with bright red wings came into view. But it was not a bird at all; rather a man with messy blond hair who wore yellow tinted visors, headphones, and a tan coat with tan pants. The wings sprouted from his back like an Angel and a hail of feathers flew forth and into the building where they pulled out more innocents by the scruff of their shirts.

"But another Hero joined in on the rescue effort, being none other than the Symbol of Peace himself: All Might!"

The camera then panned up to see a large figure jump from the top of the building and land down on the ground. Carrying a multitude of people over his shoulders was a towering giant of pure muscle and wearing a multicolored bodysuit that showed every inch of his herculean frame. He lifted his head to reveal a man with a proud, beaming smile and darkened eyes with blonde hair; two tufts pointing up like they were antenna.

"There's no need to fear! Why? BECAUSE I AM HERE!" He proudly announced as reporters crowded around him. As he handed off the office workers to the paramedics they profusely thanked him; All Might laughed heartily in response. The other three Heroes received the same amount of praise in the background. The people watching the report began clamoring and swooning about how great All Might was before they eventually dispersed, leaving the Slayer alone. He slowly walked up to the TV screen and watched the rest of the report continue. It then began to show a montage of other individuals, each with their powers, performing various acts of heroism with the news anchor congratulating them for their heroism.

He stared at the screen for a very long time as he tried to process what he was seeing. The store's shopkeeper opened the front door and glared at him grumpily. "Hey, freeloader. Are you gonna buy something or just keep gawking-"

The Slayer slowly turned his head towards him and gave him a look that burned right through him. The Shopkeeper shrunk away. "You know what? Take your time."

As he went back inside the store, The Slayer was left to his thoughts.

Heroes.

He was in a world filled with superheroes.

Was it Samuel's intention to send him here? Honestly, though, he could think of worse places that cyborg could've sent him. As he pondered what this new situation meant for him he began to feel a sense of nostalgia enter his mind. He thought back to when he was a little boy reading all those comic books. He remembered how he would always be mesmerized by the different heroes he read about, often fantasizing about himself having said powers. Back when he had a peaceful childhood with his pet rabbit Daisy.

Back before he joined the army.

Back before the demons invaded Mars in his world.

Before they attacked Earth and killed his family.

The Icon of Sin.

The Mother Demon.

Argent D'Nur.

The Maykrs.

His hand balled up into shaking fists, the Doomslayer turned around and left the district. Reality can be a cruel bitch mother. All of that wide-eyed idealism meant nothing when he was thrown into a world of endless bloodshed and rage. There were no heroes in his damn life. He continued on his trek through the city, hoping that this world had teleporter technology. Anything that could get him back to the alternate Mars and stop-

/Sl-er-/

His walking came to a halt when he heard something.

/REBootIng-reROUting-/

It was coming from his helmet for some reason. He lightly tapped his finger against the side of his head; the cause may have been a glitch or some radio interference. To his surprise, he saw a logo appear in the center of his HUD, one that he instantly recognized.

/Reboot complete. All systems nominal. Hello, Slayer. It is good to be able to communicate with you again. I must thank you for creating a copy of my AI. I am currently running off the power system within your Praetor Suit after uploading myself into it via the backup chip you prepared before you detonated my core./

The Doomslayer was not expecting another surprise in such a short period. It was a relief to see that VEGA was still amongst the living, even though he was just an Artificial Intelligence. He trusted him more than Hayden and it was good to know that he wouldn't be going through this bizarre world on his own. He could see that there was a kindred spirit in VEGA and after all the help the Slayer received from him; there was no way he was going to let VEGA die for nothing. Much like the Night Sentinels, the AI was a valued comrade.

/I have been monitoring your progress since your entry into The Well and your battle against the Aranea Imperatix. Unfortunately, I was unable to shut down the teleporter and prevent Dr. Hayden from displacing you since I was still integrating myself into your suit. He was not acting in humanity's best interests./

So VEGA was going to stop Samuel? That was a comforting thing to know. If he knew that he was going to try to stop him, The Doomslayer would've found a way to stall Hayden for as long as he could until VEGA shut off the teleporter.

/After viewing the footage of your recent arrival to this world, I can confirm that this is an alternate dimension completely separate from our own./

The Slayer raised an eyebrow. VEGA just realized that?

/We will need to acquire more information about our surroundings before we can decide our next course of action. I have located a viable source that can tell us what we need to know. Marking the route on your HUD./

The Doomslayer followed the coordinates that led deeper into the city, wanting to know more about the bizarre world he and VEGA ended up in.

DOWNTOWN MUSUTAFU-2 HOURS LATER

The Slayer was not expecting the place where they could get the info would be an internet café of all places. He was expecting something bigger like VEGA Central Processing but maybe this world wasn't at that technological level yet. Standing before the closed convenience store in a largely deserted portion of the city, he leaned in closer to the window and peered into the closed store. Guessing that it was locked up, the Slayer tightly gripped the door handle and prepared to rip it off its hinges-

/That will not be necessary. Wait one moment./

The Slayer saw one of the computer monitors inside the café flicker to life. The screen began to show different tabs rapidly cycling through different pages before shifting to what looked like official documents before it shut itself off.

/Hack complete. I have gathered what we needed to know from the World Wide Web and various institutional databases./

Damn. That quick?

/The information I have acquired is most intriguing. We are currently in the year 2149 Quirk Emergence, the same year Olivia Pierce instigated the Demonic Invasion of Mars. However, humanity has not been able to achieve interstellar travel or interplanetary colonization. There also seems to be no mention of the Union Aerospace Corporation; leading me to conclude that it does not exist in this universe./

The Doomslayer walked down the sidewalk as he listened to VEGA. No UAC on this Earth? That was a huge weight off his shoulders.

/This Earth's history is almost the same as ours but with one key difference: the existence of Quirks; another name for superhuman abilities. The first known case of this phenomenon was recorded in QuingQuing City, China in the year 2014 where an infant possessed the ability to emanate light from his body. Since then, people around the world began to exhibit their superpowers but the origin of these abilities is still unknown. As of right now, over 80% of Earth's total population are Quirk Users./

The Slayer took all of this in stride. Nearly the whole planet had superpowers. Needless to say, he was impressed.

/Though there was much turmoil along with rising tensions amid this surprising development, Quirks were soon accepted around the world and became the norm. In the midst of this, the Pro Heroes and other likeminded organizations were formed to protect the population from those who use their Quirks for malicious and felonious acts, generally referred to as Villains./

The Doomslayer leaned back against the wall of an alleyway. It got him thinking…where did he and VEGA fit into all this? They weren't Villains and he in particular certainly wasn't a Hero so what did that make them? Was there a place in between for someone like the Doomslayer and VEGA?

/I still need to compile and analyze the rest of this information; it may take a while./

Nodding to himself, the Slayer was about to leave the alley when he spotted a group quickly moving across the street. He snuck back into the alleyway and peered out from the corner to see five men dressed in large camo jackets make a beeline towards a closed bank with the interior lights still on. Each one of the men wore plastic masks that resembled some of the Heroes he saw on the TV earlier; one of them resembled All Might. The tallest one of the group pulled out a 12-gauge shotgun from his jacket, indicating that these men were robbers.

/Scanning…two of the men are Quirk-Users./

The Doomslayer watched as a short, chubby robber wearing the All-Might mask held out his hands out towards the door, and several small jolts of blue electricity arced towards the door and then to the security cameras inside, disabling them along the electronic lock on the door. The men rushed into the store and another robber took off his gloves to reveal razor-sharp nails which then grew to be several inches longer. He slashed apart the ATMs, causing the frontal portions to fall off and reveal the cash boxes inside.

The robbers took out several garbage bags and began dumping the money inside them while the one with the shotgun stood near the window to keep watch.

/I believe you should be stopping this./

The Doomslayer looked down at his hands. He had been fighting Hell for so long that he didn't think he would be going up against regular, un-zombified humans anytime soon. The only time the Slayer ever assaulted one of his kind was his Commanding Officer and he ordered him to fire on unarmed civilians. The Slayer would never forget the sight of that asshole's teeth flying out of his mouth as he slugged him.

But some fleeting embers of the idealistic boy from his distant past remained and couldn't let these guys get away with the loot. Cracking his knuckles, the Slayer prepared to go over and give the bank a new interior decoration when he spotted a figure shrouded in shadow on top of one of the buildings near the bank. To his slight surprise, the figure jumped several feet into the air and landed in the middle of the street on their feet.

The figure stood up and the Slayer was treated to the sight of an amazonian beauty: a woman with dark-colored skin, white hair reaching down to her waist, and an impressive build that would put most Olympic athletes to shame. She wore a white leotard with a crescent moon symbol, thick white gloves, two metal plates around her midriff, purple thigh-high stockings, and metal plates around her feet that resembled rabbit feet.

Speaking of rabbit, the first thing the Doomslayer immediately noticed was the pair of long white rabbit ears sticking out of the sides of her head in place of regular human ears and the fluffy white tail on her behind. The Slayer was so entranced by her appearance that he was almost caught off guard when VEGA started speaking.

/Analyzing subject. Accessing Pro-Hero database. Complete./

Subject: Rumi Usagiyama

Height: 5'3

Age: 27

Alias: Rabbit Heroine Miruko

Quirk: Rabbit-Gives her the attributes and abilities of a rabbit; granting her incredible leg strength, jumping and kicking with extreme force, destroying parts of the ground by thumping her foot, and excellent hearing due to her ears.

Current rank: Number 5 Pro Hero of Japan.

But the Doomslayer was so focused on her that he didn't bother looking at the info appearing on his HUD. He saw her spot the robbers inside and with a confident smirk, strolled right up to the bank. She quietly entered the building and casually leaned up against the door with her arms folded, that smile never left her face. The robbers were so preoccupied stealing the money they didn't even notice her, much less the one standing guard who never bothered to check his six.

"Wassup, guys? You forget your PIN number?"

The criminals snapped their heads over to her, their eyes bugging out of their masks.

"Wait a minute…you bozos ain't real Heroes! I can tell Flab Might gives it away!" She snarked as she pointed at them.

The robber with the nails prepared for combat while the tall one pumped his shotgun and advanced toward her. The other three robbers hurried as fast as they could to get the rest of the money into the bags. Before the robber with the shotgun could pull the trigger, Miruko instantly ran towards him at a speed they couldn't follow and she kicked the weapon out of his hands, following up with a right hook that instantly floored the goon.

The robber with the claws sprang forward and slashed away at her, the Rabbit Heroine swiftly dodging every swipe before jumping up, grabbing onto the rafters of the low ceiling, and unleashing a flurry of kicks all over his body; ending with a powerful double kick that sent the robber flying straight out the window and into the street. The third robber dropped his bag and swung a crowbar at her but she easily parried the blow with her feet and booted him in the gut, stunning him long enough to kick him into unconsciousness.

The fourth robber tried to pull out a handgun from his jacket pocket but Miruko descended from the ceiling and spun into a spinning kick that slammed his head into the wall and knocked him out. The last robber, the fat one wearing the All Might mask, ditched the money and ran for the exit but Miruko hooked a waiting room chair with her foot and launched it right at the robber. The chair banged against the back of his head, sending him tumbling across the ground and leaving him a dazed wreck on the floor. The robber with the shotgun sprung back up and aimed his weapon at her but Miruko's advanced hearing alerted her; allowing her to instantly dodge the shotgun blast. She swung her leg up into the goon's face and he was sent hurtling into the ceiling where his head embedded into the tiles! He hung there comically before falling back onto the floor with a thud.

"WOOO!" Miruko cheered out loud as she pumped her fists. "DAMN I'M GOOD!"

Indeed she was. The Doomslayer had never felt so impressed with someone in his life. She would've made a perfect addition to the Night Sentinels. Such power and skill behind a graceful frame but the Doomslayer could tell that she was holding it all back. She had the makings of a warrior just waiting, begging to be unleashed and she was restraining herself. The Slayer disapproved of that notion as it was him unleashing his rage that kept him alive against the demons for so long. Having seen enough, he turned around and left in the other direction to leave the Heroine to her business.

For some odd reason, the woman bore an uncanny resemblance to his late wife. They obviously weren't related, that was for sure, but seeing Miruko rekindled memories of his old life with his family on Earth before his battle against Hell. Even after everything that happened to him he still held on to his old, precious memories of happier times. He was actually a little happy that he had returned to Earth... even though it was completely different from his and superheroes were real. He walked out of the alleyway and back onto the sidewalk where he ventured deeper into the city.

/I will provide you with regular updates of the information this version of Earth has. They will be highly informative during our time here./

Nodding, the Doomslayer continued to trek through the city as VEGA supplied him with audio documentaries about the Quirk Phenomenon and the rise of Heroes. He was quite curious to learn more detailed accounts of this world's powers. But he hoped that this Earth would have technology that could get him back to the alternate Mars and stop Hayden.

To be continued…

VEGA is back ladies and gents! Does the MHA-verse have any advanced computer systems? I can't remember if there was one in canon.

I wanted to emphasize the Slayer's PTSD, hence why I had him think back to a time when everything was simpler and he didn't have to worry about demons, alternate universes, or evil aliens pretending to be Angels. He's got a lot on his mind and the parallels between him and Izuku are all too apparent.

And we also have the introduction of Miruko! I hope I was able to nail her characterization! It won't be the last he'll see of her and I'll be gradually building up their encounters with each other and well as working out their chemistry.

Don't forget to review and have a Happy Easter!

Stay home, stay healthy, and stay safe.
