Earlier that day, Dreamer had dozed off not long after arriving home from the DEO. It hadn't been much of a surprise to her, given all the stress and worry and how long she'd been up trying to help Kara. She was amazed she stayed up as long as she had. For someone suffering from narcolepsy stress usually had her passing out on her feet. Fortunately she'd found a balance between medication and sleeping exercises to avoid such obstacles. She didn't want to fall asleep in the middle of a mission (again). In this instance she got through her door before her eyes started to roll into her head, stumbling to the sofa in time to collapse from exhaustion and black out instantly.
When she woke up nine hours later, it was in a cold sweat.
It had been days since her last nightmare. She hoped that meant the crisis she had been predicting had passed but in her gut she knew that as long as Jake was out there, represented in her dreams as the red devil cackling over a blood stained Supergirl, the carnage she was having visions off was still on the horizon. However that night she hadn't dreamt of Kara or the red devil, nor of the city on fire littered with dead bodies. No, this dream was different and much more abstract.
Nia found herself in a black void, not unlike hundreds of other dreams she's had in her life. She walked along the floor she couldn't see, her footsteps echoing in the blackness. She was in her costume, the same outfit she fell asleep in. she looked around and listened carefully, J'onn's tutelage engrained in her mind as she analysed everything. But there was little to see here, not until the crack of a car backfiring. Or was it a gunshot. Whatever it was made Nia jump, whirling around in startled fear as something caught her eye on the ground. She approached cautiously, finding a tiny cone of light in the blackness shining on something on the ground. She knelt down and found a white dove, its feathers stained red from blood pouring out onto the ground. Nia was overcome with despair. It looked so deflated and lifeless. It was dead. She forced herself to life her gaze, search for any other signs in the void, more clues to what she was dreaming. She turned in a circle looking up when her feet suddenly tripped and sent her toppling to the ground. She landed on her hands and knees in a puddle of water, her own reflection looking back at her. But her face was different. Her skin was purple, bruised, cuts across her cheek and neck. Nia stared into the reflection when another figure appeared behind her, their mirrored face staring down at her from above. Nia's eyes widened as the deathless mask looked at her before putting a gun to the back of her head.
Nia awoke to the sound of another gunshot, shooting up on the sofa panting checking the back of her head. She was fine. It was just a dream. And though it wasn't the nightmare she was expecting it still left the young woman rattled.
A couple hours later she was in J'onn's office relaying the details of her dream to him. Brainy was on speaker listening too as she described the dream. She wanted to tell Kara about it too, but when she called her she didn't pick up. She was still flying around National City. It was obvious now she wasn't doing it to find Jake or the Blacksmith, it was to keep busy and avoid worrying about how much danger everyone was in. fortunately J'onn was patient and Brainy was helpful. "The imagery you've described could be related to any number of themes" he said over the phone. "The white dove is a popular symbol of hope. The figure possibly death, signifying someone is in danger."
"That doesn't really help" she muttered, dressed in the civilian clothes she was going to wear to the rally later. She replayed the dream in her head and once more got turned around in confusion. If she was her sister Maeve she would've been able to solve it. She studied her whole life researching dream interpretation and dream theory. But then you would if you thought you were destined to be the next dreamer Nia thought, guilt and shame panging her chest like it doesn't whenever she thought about how she left things with her sister. And not for the first time she wondered if Maeve would've been a better superhero than her.
"Are you absolutely sure this one isn't tied to the other nightmares" J'onn asked again.
"I'm sure" she said. "I could tell, this… this isn't linked to Kara or the Red Devil, the Reckoning, whatever. Which must mean there's something else going on right?"
"Maybe. But we can't be sure which will come to pass first" he warned. It had been months dreaming about the city on fire and while there's been close calls nothing has come true yet. "Our best option is to stay alert and keep our eyes open" he suggested. "And you have any more of these dreams, let us know."
"Will do" she nodded. She then walked over to the phone and asked "any luck with Jake or the Blacksmith?"
"I'm compiling the file of my background research into Jake White as we speak" he replied optimistically. "And I've written a few algorithms which should help improve our search parameters."
"Does that mean you'll be able to make it to the rally later?" she asked hopefully.
Brainy hesitated, knowing how much event means to his girlfriend. "I'm afraid I cannot promise anything. But I will endeavour to do my best" he promised.
Nia knew that was the best he could promise. This manhunt was eating into everyone's time. "It's okay Brainy" she replied. "Speak to you later." She ended the call and closed her eyes, trying not to be mad that her boyfriend wouldn't make it.
J'onn examined her as she rubbed her eyes, despite having a good night's sleep, looking exhausted. He didn't probe her mind to find out what the real problem was, the glimpse of her unbuttoned shirt did that for him. Nia saw him staring at her blouse and found the top button undone revealing her costume beneath it, hurriedly covering it up. "Have you taken that off at all in the past twenty four hours?" he asked her.
She shrugged. "Once, to have a shower. It's no big deal, I just…feel safer with it on. In case…"
"In case you need it" he nodded, crossing the room to lean against the desk next to her. "You know your family is protected. And you know we have your back."
"I know, but…I can't stop worrying" she said, pacing nervously. "I keep thinking who else knows. And if they know, who will they go after first? Me, at work? Or maybe they'll wait for me to get home and ambush me at my apartment. What if they go after me while I'm walking home at night? Or visiting one of you? But then I think what if they go after my family first? My dad, my sister, my…"
"Nia! It's okay" he hushed her, sensing her fear rising into panic. She caught her breath and exhaled, rubbing her face trying to remain calm. "I know it's hard. I know it's scary. But we will get through this. Remember you are not alone."
"I know" she nodded, calming down. She looked around the room and then out the window, quietly expressing "I just hate this feeling of looking over my shoulder."
J'onn felt for the girl. Sometimes he forgets she has only been a superhero for under two years. She's still discovering what it's like to live this life they chose. "It'll get easier. Just remember you have us to turn to if you need us."
She nodded, smiling gratefully at J'onn for calming her nerves. She checked her watch. It was two hours to midday. The rally was starting soon. "Okay, today I think should just forget about Jake and the Reckoning and all of this" she suggested. "I don't want to think about all the negative stuff. Today is a good day and needs to be celebrated."
"I agree" he smiled approvingly, collecting his coat. "So, meet you at the square?"
"Absolutely" she said, hopping excitedly out of the door ready to embrace the historic occasion this was. And true to her word, she put all her worries out of her mind.
Until the explosion on the stage dragged them all back again.
The crowd screamed in alarm as those at the front were thrown backward. Dorian, standing at the podium, was launched backward off the stage into the crowd as smoke billowed from the burning remains of the projector screen. The four superheroes in the crowd covered their heads from raining debris before lifting their gaze to the chaos ensued. Nia was amongst them standing her ground as men and women sprinted past her to get away from the epicentre, scanning the stage trying to see if Dorian was okay. They were found on the ground coughing and sputtering staring up at the explosion in bewilderment.
Then out of the smoke came a figure, clad in grey body armour with a huge weapon in their hands, a thick metal rod with a two sided head; one side sharp like an axe, the other blunt like a hammer. They strode out of the cloud stepping under the collapsing screen glaring into the crowd with its iron mask clamped around their head, its blank deathless features looking down at the trembling people below. It looked down at Dorian and fixed their gaze on him, dropping down from the stage landing on their heavy steel capped boots, his gloved hand tightening around the weapon.
The moment the super friends saw the figure they all had flashbacks to Ben Lockwood, the Agent of Liberty strikingly resembling the figure striding towards their senate candidate. "That's not possible" James muttered, echoing their thoughts too. Ben Lockwood was dead and the Children of Liberty were disbanded. But J'onn's eyes drifted to the crowd and saw something that made his muscles tense. Or rather sensed it, telepathically. The familiar hate of men and women ready to pounce.
"Who are you?" Dorian bellowed, trying to sound brave while their voice trembled with fear.
The masked figure glared at him. "Who I am is not important" she replied, her female voice reverberating from the mask like a sinister demon. "Our voices will not be silenced again. Liberty will come. Earth belongs to humanity. You and your kind have no place here" she growled, bringing the axe over her head ready to wing it down on the Octurian. Dorian's eyes widened and he stumbled back, covering his face in terror.
There was a blur of movement as the axe came down and hundreds of people, including Nia, screamed out for the alien when the axe was caught in mid-air by a hand. The masked woman froze in surprise as Supergirl stood in her way, blocking her swing from killing the Octurian. "It is you who are not welcome here" Kara spat, thrusting her palm out hitting the figure in the chest sending her tumbling back onto the stage. The crowd exhaled in relief as Supergirl floated up to confront the stranger as she gasped for breath growling in frustration. "I know that mask" she said to the figure. "Are you one of Lockwood's followers? You think you can just become the next Agent Liberty?"
"Lockwood was a hero, and icon" she hissed back, taking hold of her weapon twisting the shaft. "The Children will carry his message until all you alien vermin are exterminated from our planet. I stand as a sentinel for his vision. I stand against you!" she swung the weapon, the blunt end crashing into Supergirl who brought her arms up to block it easily. Except she wasn't prepared for the kinetic charge built up in the weapon that discharged the moment it hit her, the concussive blast sending her catapulting across the stage into the light rig.
The crowd screamed again, shocked to see their hero knocked off her feet. But the real horror began when the Children of Liberty appeared out of the crowd in their hoods and masks and began attacking the crowd. Specifically the aliens amongst the humans. They assaulted them with bats, pipes, knives and guns, attacking and killing every alien they could get their hands on. There were dozens of them in the crowd of hundreds, all wearing masks and hoodies, some more armed then others. Pandemonium hit the square sending everything into chaos, preventing the police officers around the perimeter to keep order and evacuate everyone safely as people were trampled and thrown about in the carnage.
In the middle of the square J'onn felt the fear and hate swirl together as violence overtook common sense. He turned to his friends but they were already in the process of helping. "Good thing you brought your costume" he remarked to Nia, who was already searching for somewhere to change as they weaved through the crowd. He looked to James in his civilian clothes. "Do you have your armour?" he asked.
"No, I didn't bring it" he said irritated. "For once I didn't think I'd need it."
"Well do what you can to get everyone out of here" he advised, shifting into her green Martian Manhunter form as he flew into the air to find the hooded assailants.
Nia and Brainy dashed through the crowd with Olsen until they found a spot hidden behind an abandoned food cart giving them some breathing space. "I'll call the DEO to bring back-up" Brainy said already on the phone as he watched out for Nia who whipped out of her clothes into her costume.
"I thought the Children of Liberty had disbanded after it was proved Lex was manipulating them?" James asked guiding a family away from the carnage.
"So did we" both Nia and Brainy concurred.
Kara pulled herself out of the rigging shaking the black spots out of her eyes. Where do they keep getting these weapons? She wondered as she stood up, the metal supports falling off her back clattering to the ground.
It only took her a moment to reorient herself to see the people in hoodies wearing masks assaulting the aliens in the crowd, using the confusion to kill indiscriminately. They left the humans alone, shoving many of them aside to attack the nonhuman targets. She saw a few humans fight back against the assailants, which brought the ire of the attackers turning their hate onto them. She saw a man get stabbed for protecting an alien child who was crying in panic, her wails creating a sonic wave that deafened those in the closest vicinity. Another alien had spikes growing out of his arms, which he actively used to attack the hooded man beating him with a bat, raking the spines across his chest until he was shot in the back by and energy weapon. More hooded figures carried advanced weapons to kill as many as they could.
Kara didn't give them another chance to massacre hundreds. She sprinted in as a blur, leaping into the middle of the crowd focusing her attention on the masked men. Like Lena said, harnessing the anger she was feeling worked a charm as she brought her fists around their weapons, crushing them to splinters glaring at the hoodies with glowing red eyes. They looked at her startled for a moment before she swatted them to the floor effortlessly, making sure they were on the ground before dashing to the next target. She zipped through the crowd, shielding families and rescuing aliens and humans alike as she disarmed and fought back against the Children of Liberty. She listened to their strangled grunts and cries as she sent them flying into the crowd or food vendors, not taking the time to measure her strikes. She got lost in the red mist drifting over her eyes until her fist was caught out of the air and she looked back to find J'onn behind her. "Calm down" he suggested.
"I'm stopping them" she retorted, about to pull her hand free when he repeated "calm down." then she realised how aggressive she was being, blinking and looking around at the terrified people shuffling away from her. She reluctantly took a deep breath and felt the mist lift, her eyes returning to normal. "We have to stop them" she told him.
"And we will" he promised, letting her wrist and helping her dispatch the nearest Children.
When Kara heard the explosion coming from the rally she thought it was Jake, racing back fast enough to vibrate the glass windows of the building next to her. She arrived in time to find the masked woman on stage making her entrance, immediately recognising it as a replica of Ben Lockwood's. She had no idea who this new Sentinel of Liberty was but she had brought back a conflict they hoped they had put to bed a year ago. Judging from the number of people wearing those masks today they still had work to do. But not even Ben Lockwood had been as bold or as bloodthirsty as this.
They combatted the Children and protected the crowd leading them out of the perimeter to the police officers, dispatching masked assailants as they went until one pulled out a flamethrower. Kara had enough time to ask who brings a flamethrower to a political rally before calling out to J'onn warning "behind you!"
J'onn turned and saw the flames approaching, steeling his phobia to dash away allowing Kara to leap in and disarm the man. She had the weapon dismantled in seconds while J'onn vanished into the swarming crowd still panicking. It was the perfect cover as the hooded men and women kept slipping in and out of the crowd. Kara used her x-ray vision and super hearing to pinpoint as many as she could. She almost missed the incoming swing of the Sentinel's hammer as she appeared behind the girl of steel, throwing her arms up at the last minute to deflect the impact which sent her skidding on her heels.
"Why are you doing this?" she asked, dashing towards the armoured woman slamming her into another rig. "Ben Lockwood is dead. His followers are scattered."
"Scattered, but not abandoned" she replied, pinned against the rigging by the stronger woman. Her mask glared at her menacingly hissing "we have come together to continue his work. We will finish what he started. And this time it'll take more than the likes of you to stop our voices from being heard!"
Kara was so focused on the Sentinel she didn't see one of her followers until it had squeezed the trigger on its gun. She looked up and found herself sprayed in a green mist that quickly invaded her airways and chocked her immediately. Her lungs burned as he inhaled the mist, feeling tiny particles cutting into her insides lighting her nerves on fire. Oh crap she thought as she felt the kryptonite invade her system, her strength weakening loosening her grip on the woman who promptly shoved her off and hit her across the temple with a haymaker. The punch that should've shattered her wrist instead gave Kara a thumping headache as she stumbled on her feet, fighting the infection to struggle with the woman as they both tumbled to the ground.
Across the square more alien families were retreating, carried by the crowd attempting to escape into the streets. They saw the hooded figures killing people around them, hiding their faces fleeing in terror. A couple, a human female and alien male, clung to their ten year old daughter who shared most of her father's physical traits. The crowd around them surged forward and her hand was yanked from their grasp, the girl crying out as her parents were lost to the wall of bodies. She was carried in another direction until she found refuge under a table, cowering in fear watching the legs dart back and further while screams filled her ears.
She stayed there until a figure materialised in front of her, the girl shuffling back attempting to hide. But the figure who crouched down wasn't one of the bad men. It was the face of the person who stood on the stage and spoke to them. Dorian found the girl and stopped in his tracks. They were looking for their security detail to escape the crowd, but they couldn't leave her behind. So they held out their hand and said "it's okay little girl. You can help me get out of here. I don't think I can do it without your help."
The girl looked at them, fear etched across her face as she glanced out at the scary world outside. But Dorian was patient, gently urging her to take his hand. She looked up at them and hesitantly took their hand, climbing into their arms as they stood up and looked around. "Okay them, which way?" they asked her, keeping the act of her being their saviour to try and keep her calm. She looked around and instinctively pointed in a direction. "Are you sure?" Dorian asked her. She nodded. It wasn't the direction they were aiming for but they followed the girls lead and went anyway.
Turns out the girl's species shares a biological bond to their parents. Meaning she was drawn directly to her father who was pushing frantically following their bond to her. Dorian found the parents who took their child and thanked them for finding her. "Take her home, as far away from this place as you can" he advised, helping them find their way to the perimeter until their path was blocked by a man in a mask wielding a bat. Immediately the four of them turned and ran the other way only for another to step out of the crowd to advance on them. They turned again, finding themselves trapped by a cart as a third figure stepped forward carrying a rifle in their hands.
Dorian stepped in front of the family as the three figures closed in on them, weapons braced as they stared down at the aliens in their midst. The mother shielded her daughter begging them "please. She's just a child."
The man with the gun looked at the kid, his dispassionate expression hidden behind his blank gold mask. "She isn't human" he said plainly, raising the rifle setting it to automatic. His friends watched in anticipation as Dorian attempted to protect the family as the gun fired.
Dreamer jumped out of the crowd and stood between Dorian and the Children of Liberty, creating an astral shield to block the bullets stopping them from killing anyone. The gun clicked empty and the man looked up in surprise to see the blue and silver costumed superhero had appeared out of nowhere. She didn't hesitate to retaliate with a blast from her wrist, sending the man flying backwards, the gun falling from his grasp. The two masked assailants either side of her rushed forward, but she spun around deflecting the bat and knocking the other into the cart before lassoing the third and flipping him over his head. Before he could get up and rush her again she threw out both her fists and blasted him with a pair of astral beams sending him tumbling across the ground.
She stood up after, satisfied the threat was neutralised before turned back to the family. "Are you okay?" she asked. Dorian and the family looked at her in awe, like she was an angel. The little girl was star struck as her expression changed from one of terror to one of hope. Dreamer pretended like she didn't notice their reactions, but inside it still amazed her how people looked at her when she saved the day. "Okay, everyone follow me" she said, leading the four of them out of the crowd to the perimeter where a group of police officers were ushering people to safety.
Once the family were safely out of danger Dreamer turned to go back into the square where Dorian called out her name. She turned back to find them approaching her, still dumbstruck to find her in front of them saying "I just wanted to say…thank you."
She smiled replying "I'm just doing what anyone else would do. Now you should get yourself to safety."
"No, I mean…thank you" Dorian said, taking her hand shaking it. "You won't know this but you're the reason I chose to run for this election. You inspired me. You've inspired a lot of us."
Nia blushed behind her mask, taking the Octurian's hand telling him "you inspire me Dorian. You bring these people hope. You give me hope because I know you'll change the world. But we need you to get to safety so you can do that" she insisted, seeing Dorian's security detail running up to escort their candidate back.
But as they were led away, Dorian humbly stated "there will always be people like me as long as they have heroes like you to look up to." Dreamer didn't know what to say as the future senator was escorted towards his vehicle to escape the madness. She turned back and focused on the task of saving everyone else, though she ran in with an infectious smile on her face.
While James Olsen didn't have a suit on, he still made himself useful by directing civilians towards safety. He pulled a man out from under a collapsed metal brace, helped a woman reunite with her girlfriend and escorted a family of aliens to the police officers making their way inwards to confront and arrest the children of liberty scattered throughout the square. James tangled with a handful to save some aliens, forcing them back to see them disappear into the sea of bodies a lose track of them. Over the frantic heads he saw his friends fighting the hooded figures and saving civilians, wondering how long it was taking reinforcements to arrive. They didn't know how many Children of Liberty there was. There could be as little as ten to as many as a hundred. In this crowd is was impossible to count.
While James was preoccupied he glimpsed another gold mask stalking through the crowd. He ruby tackled the figure to the ground knocking the metal pipe out of his hand. The man retaliated with his fists but James was larger and pinned the man down and jabbed him twice with his fist. He knelt over the unconscious figure and pulled the mask off. He was met with an unassuming male about fifty years old with a beard.
That's who these Children of Liberty are he remembered. Ordinary men and women with a prejudice against aliens. As a political movement they were formidable. As a militia they were dangerous. This is something else though, not like Lockwood at all. This was radical, extreme. Could the Children of Liberty have evolved into an extremist hate group?
He stood up over the unconscious member and was suddenly tackled himself into a lamppost. The big muscular man struggled with his attack who suddenly had their hands wrapped around his throat. "Traitor" he the masked man hissed, glaring at the black man as he squeezed his windpipe. James clawed at the man's head, managing to rip the mask off his face revealing a furious expression. James looked at the young man strangling him and saw recognition.
Moreover he recalled the face too. This man he had met during his time investigating the Children of Liberty when he joined in his journalist capacity. He let them believe he was sympathetic to their cause, got an audience with Agent Liberty. So when he helped bring Ben Lockwood to justice and exposed the group, they saw it as a betrayal.
He's been considered a traitor for a lot of reasons, but he held no shame in betraying this lot.
He whacked the man across the face with his own mask, dislodging the chokehold and throwing himself clear scrambling across the floor. The man lunged for him again, pulling a gun front his belt, but James kicked it out of his hands and tripped the man up. He saw the hostile intent in the man's eyes, the bloodlust as his vendetta became his goal, the aliens around them forgot. James scrambled across the floor until his hand found the gun on the ground. The man in the hoodie didn't give him time to contemplate his choices as he rushed at him with the metal pipe in his grasp. James swung the gun around and squeezed off two shots, the gunfire scattering the people around him as the man collapsed on top of him.
It took him a moment to confirm the man was dead, the two bullet wounds staining the hoodie as he pushed him off and dropped the gun. James let out a shallow breath before pushing himself to his feet. Later he'll replay this incident and wonder if he did the right thing in killing him. For now he focused on the lives that still needed saving.
Supergirl's fight with the Sentinel of Liberty was getting harder by the second. The kryptonite in her system was like poison, working through her body the more she exerted herself. She found her lungs burning like acid every time she breathed, her breath coming out in wheezes as she strained to keep the armoured woman at arm's length. She would call upon the training Alex gave her, kicking and punching and body flipping her opponent where she could, but the Sentinel proved to be equally trained and outmanoeuvred Kara into a chokehold, the staff of her weapon pulled against her throat with a knee in her back. Kara fought against her, her energy reserves fading making it hard to keep going. J'onn was out in the crowd somewhere along with Dreamer and Brainy, James hopefully somewhere safe. She heard the faint sounds of sirens on the wind, the DEO and police reinforcements finally on their way. But Kara refused to give up yet as she threw her weight back, knocking the woman off balance breaking out of her chokehold. But she leapt back quickly to pin Kara to the ground, her axe blade coming down against her shoulder. Kara hissed as the sharp edge cut into her flesh, drawing blood as the Sentinel tried to force it deeper. It took most of Kara's strength to resist, her hands grabbing the blade cutting her palms open so she could push back.
In the scuffle the handle twisted, the kinetic energy humming within the weapon as energy built up in a whine. Kara looked at the weapon and then at the Sentinel, determination crossing her face as she put the last of her energy into her arms to shove the hammer back against her opponent. The metal discharged in the Sentinel's face sending the woman clattering across the ground, throwing her off Supergirl giving them both room to gasp for air.
After a moment to recover both women climb to their feet unsteadily, the weapon picked up by its owner. Outside the square the sirens got louder and Supergirl shouted "it's over! You can't win this. You might as well surrender."
The Sentinel looked out at the oncoming sirens, casting a glance across the square where her followers did battle. She looked back at Supergirl and hefted the hammer over her shoulder. "You have the day" she conceded. "But victory is already ours. The city knows who were are. And they know we will not be silenced." And with that she pulled out a smoke capsule and threw it at her feet, filling the area with thick smoke that blinded Kara and allowed the woman to escape.
Kara lunged into the cloud but couldn't get her senses to focus. The kryptonite hindered her abilities and thus she was left stumbling in the dust before stumbling to her knees coughing painfully.
Dorian was escorted back to their vehicle by two of his plain clothes bodyguards, who insisted he climb in so they could take them back home. Dorian didn't want to leave the people of National City but knew there was little they could offer that the emergency services wouldn't already supply. So they turned away and stepped towards the vehicle.
They froze when a series of gunshots rang out putting both is bodyguards on the ground as they were shot in the head and torso. Dorian spun around in shock, feeling the body on their skin as they stumbled against the car door. Their eyes looked up and found the man standing before him, the gold mask on his face but no hood, instead a leather jacket and leather pants over thick work boots. The Glock-17 sat comfortably in his hand as he pointed it at the alien, his blank face staring into Dorian's eyes as he pulled the trigger.
The gunshot rang across the square and somehow Dreamer knew what it meant as she spun around in fear, mirroring her actions in a dream she had. She stared through the bustling crowds and somehow found the SUV Dorian was meant to escape in. she glimpsed the man in the gold mask holding a gun. Then she saw the figure in front of him slump down onto the pavement lifeless.
Time seemed to come to a crawl for the young woman as she sprinted forward, screaming something her ears wouldn't register. She rushed past civilians and police officers, leaping through the crowd racing to get to the vehicle. By the time she got there the man in the mask was gone, leaving only the three dead bodies on the floor. Dreamer came to a stop a few feet away, her gaze locked onto the pale face of Dorian staring up into the heavens with a bullet wound in their forehead. She fell to her knees seeing the blood spread over their white alien features and onto their suit, staining the silver metal of his pin as it leaked onto the floor.
She found herself filled with despair as she realised what her dream from last night had been trying to tell her. The dove symbolising hope. The deathless mask pointing the gun. Dorian was their community's greatest hope for the future. Now the Children of Liberty had murdered him.
Hope had been killed this day.
