Chapter 39 - Basic Training

Cor didn't like the idea of drill sergeant screaming at his lover's face. He didn't like the idea of his lover crawling on the mud. He didn't like the idea of his lover being tortured in harsh training.

If he could, he wanted to drag her away from the training camp and drive her home —or preferably his home. He wanted to forbid her from making an attempt to apply as the field crownsguard medic, and just let her stay in the citadel forever, or just ask her to be a medic in the hospital.

This was only the second week of her basic training, and the days without her were excruciating. He wasn't sure he could bear another ten weeks without her.

Of course Cor could see her, by visiting the training camp and observing the training progress. Just like what he was doing right now.

Cor clenched his fists when he found Eira among the trainees. It seemed that she didn't notice his presence as she looked solely on the obstacle track. It was then her turn, and Cor was struggling not to drag her out from there and hug her.

But then he saw how her eyes were burning in vigor, that she was strong enough to overcome those obstacles. And when she smiled at the end of the track, Cor couldn't help but be happy for her.

It was the third week, and Cor couldn't bear it any longer. He missed her so much. Deciding to spend a night at the training camp, Cor commanded his subordinate to call her into his office in the camp after the dinner.

He knew that he should've been rational and not called her. But he just couldn't. He missed her. He promised that he would talk with her for just five minutes, no more.

Cor turned his head toward the door when someone knocked it from outside. His heart was beating faster than two seconds ago, as he was excited to see his lover.

"Come in," he stood up, leaving his seat and then walked toward the front of his desk. The man should restrain himself from grinning when the door opened and showed him the face of a precious woman he loved so much.

Eira closed the door then walked closer. She looked exhausted, but she still gave him the most beautiful smile in the world when her eyes reflected his figure.

"Is this going to be a serious talk? Or you're just being reckless to meet me for a private matter?"

Oh, how much Cor missed her mellifluous voice. A voice that warmed his heart. A voice that melted his brain. A voice that was always capable of calming his mind.

He walked closer then hugged her, caressing her head while whispering, "I missed you."

Eira giggled inside his embrace. Circling her arms around his waist, she then raised her head to look at him. "Silly. You know that it's dangerous for us to meet like this."

Cor gently caressed her cheek while staring at her face. It was just three weeks, and he noticed how mature she looked. The harsh training gradually changed her for sure. Just like it did to him thirty years ago.

In the next nine weeks she would be much stronger and ready to serve Lucis as a proud member of the crownsguard. And after that, she would join the advanced training as a medic. He couldn't say that he wasn't proud of her, even though sometimes he was anxious to know that she was struggling to achieve her dream and there was nothing he could do to help her.

"It's only three weeks and it's so excruciating…" he whispered before giving a gentle kiss on her lips.

Oh, how much he missed her kisses. The softness of her lips, the warmth of her tongue, and the sweetness of her moan.

"I missed you too…" she said between their kisses.

Cor pulled her closer as they drowned deeper into their kisses. He shut his eyes, so that his senses were focused on her kisses and the warmth from her small body inside his arms.

If he could, he just wanted to feel her longer. But that would be unwise and their time was limited, thus their kiss should unfortunately end.

Caressing her cheek, he asked, "How've you been? Are you hurt? Injured? Is it too harsh for you?"

Eira giggled softly, oh, how he loved her smile. She replied, "Come on, Cor. I know that basic training won't be easy. I'm prepared and I'm fine."

Cor took a deep breath, giving a slight pause before stating his thought, "You know… I sometimes wish that you won't take it…"

Eira pouted. "I've always wanted to be a field medic. And the fact that you're my lover now just makes me eager to be one more than before. I want to support you on the battlefield. I want to protect you."

Cor still didn't like the idea of her being on the battlefield with him. Even though the field medic would only stay at the camp and not on the frontline, it was still dangerous. If only there were no war outside the wall…

Eira caressed his cheek, as if she knew the fear in his head and now she tried to assure him that everything was going to be okay. She smiled, while gently rubbing his cheek with her small thumb.

He took her hand and kissed it. He noticed that there were small scratches along her skin, and again, he wanted to beg her to stop taking this training.

"I have the urge to do more than this." He whispered. "But… I think it's wiser if you go back now."

She giggled. "Yeah."

Cor latched his lips on hers, kissing her tenderly. It was an unhurried kiss, as Cor slowly appreciated her taste as long as possible. He wished they had more time. But he knew that would raise suspicion from the other.

They ended their kisses and looked at each other's eyes for several seconds before he released her from his arms. She gave him one last smile then walked out from his office.

And only a second after she left, he had missed her again.
