Sorry for the late update, Readers! Been having a crazy holiday for me!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.
Without further ado! Here's the last chapter of this mini-arc.
With the news of Marius being stained running aflame through the realm of Vamhaven. The people of Carmilla rejoice with tears of joy. Families welcomed back their loved ones who took part in the war. Couples reunited. Children ran into the arms of their Fathers and Mothers. It was as if the cloud of ominous that hovered above the entire realm for so long has been lifted.
For the City and people of Tepes. After the war, the Carmilla marched onwards to their enemy homeland. With no Ruler, Captains and barely any military forces. Tepes didn't put any fight and quietly surrendered. Queen Carmilla made her gracious appearance and declared that none of the Tepes's people should be punished for their late ruler's sins. Many people in the Tepes cheers joyfully at the Queen's word. Many had stayed loyal due to fear for Marius. The Tepes had lost the support of his people when he killed his Father.
But, some did stay loyal to Marius and those tried to start a revolution in the spot. Started chucking items to the Queen and cussing, but those groups were quickly put down by the Carmilla forces and send to prison by order of their Queen. She didn't want any more blood to drip in her land.
When the people of Tepes saw this and how the Queen handled to the situation with none lethal manner. Seeing that warmth and care in her eyes. All of them kneel down to their new ruler. Accepting to have Tepes and Carmila become one single merged Faction. After centuries of being separated.
But, even with this news and the war finally ended. Not everything is positive. Such as a war and the aftermath it leaves behind. Many families mourned for their loved ones that have fallen in the battle. All of the soldiers that have given their lives in this war will be remembered for their courage to participate in the bloody conflict.
The unfortunate reality of being a supernatural being is that when they die. In a short span of time, their bodies will disintegrate into nothingness. It saddened many families that they can't bury their loved ones. When the war has ended all of them turned to dust and got carried off by the wind. In a way it is beautiful. That the brave warriors remaining gets lifted to the air and in time sprinkle down all over Vamhaven. The home that they fought for to keep it safe. To ultimate protect their families.
But, the warriors that participate the war wasn't the only ones that received the gracious thanks of the people in Vamhaven. The devils that also helped quickly become a hero to the Vampires. Rias, Akeno, Akame, Issei, Koneko, Gasper, and Riser were greeted warmly at Carmilla. Lifted to the air by the people as the celebration commenced. Their effort on the war was quickly spread by the soldiers, and many consider that they wouldn't be able to have won if it wasn't for Rias and her group aid.
Though, the one person that the people wanted to thank the most. The person who slain Marius to end this nightmare. Nawin Makasha couldn't join in the celebration as he suffered from deep mana depletion and severe strains on the body. Currently, he is in a deep slumber to recover with Carmilla's best nurses and doctors taking care of him.
When the celebration pasts. Rias and the group took a long rest to recover. Deciding to stay a few days in Vamhaven to relax after such a grueling and long battle. Some are more emotionally tired than physically. One being Akeno who's been thrown into so much emotion after watching what happened to Nawin. It clouded her mind even after the war ended and stressed her to the point that after the celebration, Akeno collapsed when entering the castle before being rushed off to the medic.
When the celebration was over. Gasper headed to Valerie's side with the grails in hand. With the help of the Queen. They were able to return the Sephiroth Graal inside Valerie. It was a surprisingly easy processed. The Graal wholeheartedly and by itself returned to Valerie after being placed on her. The result was quick with Valerie's skin started shifting to a healthier shade, unlike the dead pale complexion that's once was. Her thin body reverted back to the previous healthy statue. But, she still hasn't regained consciousness just yet.
Now, two days have passed since the war ended. Carmilla is returning to a state it once was. No longer stressed or troubled by the war. The people are living their lives normally with smiles. The soldiers that fought in the war still recovering from injuries and either doing some light labor work or resting at home with their loved ones.
Splashing water to her face, Akame looks at her reflection in the mirror. The steam from the hot bath she just took floats around the bathroom. Her naked body drips of water. Her long black hair sticks to the back. Akame slowly moves her sight to the right shoulder where her arm used to be attached. For the past days, Akame had to live with one arm, and it is a challenging one. Even her routine morning training becomes difficult since with an arm missing her balance is off. Which cause scenarios of her either stumbling or tripping when doing some strong strikes.
"Huh," Akame sighs and reach to the left for the towel and begins drying her body. Dragging the cloth through her soft white skin then the face before finishing off with the hair. Unable to tie it on her body, Akame just throws the towel over her shoulder and exits the bathroom.
With some time and precision, Akame was able to get dressed in her standard clothes. It consists of a black sleeveless shirt with red strips. A short black skirt that reaches to the upper knees and a tall black combat boot with the signature red soles. It's the boots similarly worn by her King but made for a female. One of the gifts she was given by him.
Stopping in front of a desk, Akame looks down at the black ring resting on the wood. The beautiful white stone shimmers for a moment. When the Knight's arm was severed by Marius, the ring fell loose from the finger. Fortunately, Koneko saw this and was able to snatch it and kept it safe. Akame was very thankful when the Rook returned the ring to her.
Staring at the ring, memories of the battle begin resurfacing in the Knight's mind. To be specific, it is the recollections of witnessing Nawin shifted into that monstrous form. Becoming something that she has never seen before. It was an unforgettable moment that she and the rest will always remember. Seeing their friend momentarily lost control and became a destruction and violent being that was even more dangerous and powerful than Marius Tepes.
There is one question that plagued the Knight's mind ever since the war has ended. And it was how did her King regain control. How did that barrier suddenly appeared out of nowhere?
The others also tried to think of an explanation and couldn't come up with much of an answer. But, Akame knows or at least she has a very good guess to who it was that created that barrier. Who was confident enough to trap themselves inside with Nawin when he was in that form.
Sayomi Dracul. No doubt is the person responsible for that interference. Akame was most certain about that. Rias and the rest seem to believe that the Pureblood has already but left, so to them, a chance of her being involved is thrown out of the window. Akame would have considered informing them about this, but she believes when it comes to the Pureblood. It is a business that she should discuss with her King first and foremost.
Akame brings her middle finger through the ring then quickly flip her hand over to let the ring slide down. She clenches her fist to tighten it in place. This ring has become something Akame enjoys wearing. When she doesn't, it almost made her feel naked. It was one of the precious gifts Nawin has given her that she values dearly. In a way this ring is a part of him that's only given to those he truly cares for and trusted.
Akame knows that like her, Hana doesn't ever remove the ring. And no doubt Misako will be on the same boat. It is a symbol to them that they are part of Nawin's peerage. His most trusted friends and comrades.
A sudden knock on the door has Akame turn around. "Hey, Akame!" Issei's voice comes through from the other end "We're going to go have breakfast. You ready?"
"Eh!" Issei yips when the Knight just opens the door instead of answering, surprising him. "Wimp," Riser comments from behind while Koneko rolls her eyes. Issei coughs and glances back to glare at the Phenex before returning to forward. "You good?" he asks, watching Akame shuts the door and turn to him, raising an eyebrow "Yes... Why you ask?" "Because you are still missing an arm," Riser points out.
Akame glance over her right shoulder where her arm should be. "I'm adjusting," she comments, shifting back to the three "There isn't much concern for me since this is temporary." "Yeah," Issei nods "When we are back home, Asia-chan should be able to reattach your arm."
"For now just suck it up," Riser says with a mischievous smirk and for extra measure brings his right arm up for a fist pump "Am I right?" Akame stares at the Phenex's hand, clearly playing with her since he used the right side which is the side her arm is severed. Akame clenches her left hand into a fist and brings it forward before launching it up to the Phenex's head. Punching him square on the face and sends him sliding back.
"Ahahaah!" Issei laughs when Riser hits the wall and immediately grips his face, grunting in pain. "You deserved that," Koneko comments with a smirk. "You can be such a fool at times," Akame state, dropping her arm to the side "It's in his DNA... Unfortunately," Issei insert and gets a glare from the Phenex. "I was just teasing," RIser utters, rubbing his nose before releasing it "You're tease timing needs to be better," Issei state "You are lucky Akame isn't a kind of person to get offended so easily."
Koneko turns to the Hyoudou and gives him a blank look that matches the same with the Knight. "You talk like you know her well, Issei-senpai" "W-well," Issei gets fluster and just scratch the back of his head, grinning sheepishly "It's my thought anyway." Akame turns around and begins walking down the hall, a smile dance on her lip "You aren't entirely wrong. I only care opinions of the people I care."
"Ouch," Riser says, though not really offended "She's the same with you in a way, Phenex," Iseei comments, crossing his arms behind his head and follows the Knight "You barely give a crap about other people's opinions" "You ain't wrong there. I could give a damn about your opinion" "Back at you, chicken-head" "What you say?!" "You heard me!" Both Koneko and Akame sigh as the two boys begin their usual bantering.
Elsewhere
Rias stood in the hallway alone. Her arms crossed and the expression on her face is unreadable. The Gremory's eyes are focused through the glass in the door that shows one of the many medical rooms inside the Carmilla's Castle.
The room in front of Rias is where Nawin is placed. He is still unconscious and slumbering. Sited beside the bed is none other than Akeno. Who hasn't left the Makasha's side since she regained consciousness. This sight that Rias is looking is becoming familiar, and it's a sight that she isn't fond off. Seeing her best friend being depressed from worrying. Seeing Nawin in bedridden after a major battle because he always gave it his all to protect them and the innocence.
Deep at the back of her mind. Rias begins to question if this relationship is healthy for the couple in front of her. It's a thought she utterly hates having, but it surfaces at times like these. Rias knows Nawin and Akeno well. The latter she knows ever since they were kids. She has knowledge that these two have gone through a tough past and in a way. That painful past has brought them together. It helped them relate in ways that she and the rest couldn't understand.
But, even with the similarity they share. Rias can still see that the couple is far apart in ways she can't describe. Even looking at the scene before her. Watching Akeno caressing Nawin's hand with her thump while looking at him with a soft smile. Surely wishing him to wake up soon in mind. It is a sight that no doubt display their love. But, yet, Rias sees there's this rift. A rift that still hasn't been close even after months of the couple being together.
"Uh," Rias exhales and shakes her head to clear the mind. She's overthinking things. Opening her eyes, Rias looks at the couple once again and sees that passion in Akeno's eyes when she looks at Nawin. The amount of love and affection is indescribable. A sight Rias has never seen her friend shown the entire time they've known each other. Seeing that is able to set the Gremory at ease. She believes the two will be able to work things out in the end. To close this rift. Because the love they share with each other is undeniable and can't be severed no matter what.
"Buchou," Rias's lip twist into a warm smile when hearing the familiar soft and light voice of her Bishop. She turns to the right to see Gasper stopping on the side. "Gasper," Rias utters "How are you doing?" "I'm fine," he replies with a smile and turns to the door to look through the mirror.
"... Nawin-san hasn't woken up yet..." Gasper says with a down tone "Yeah..." Rias revert to the door "He must have really pushed himself at that battle. After seeing what he became... It's understandable why he is still bedridden."
"W-will..." Gasper twidle his index fingers around together "Will he be ok when he wakes up, Buchou?" "I'm sure he will," Rias answers with confidence, which helps the Vladi believe in those words. "What we witnessed back there was Nawin-kun losing control of his sacred gear. But, even with us not knowing what happened inside that dome. I am certain with the result we saw that in the end... Nawin-kun was able to regain control and defeated Marius" "You sound so confident, Buchou" "A King has to be confident in their subordinate's abilities, Gasper. Nawin-kun has proven time and time again that he is a special kind of talent. He's risen through the ranks like no other new half-breed devil has ever done. It will be insulting if I don't hold high confidence in him."
Rias turns to her Rook and smile "I've seen you've become quite attached to him, Gasper" she says and gets a blush from the boy before he shyly nods. "Nawin-san has helped me with his kind words. I can tell he understood my pain when Valerie was taken by Marius. I was so worried and scared for her that I didn't want to leave her side when we returned her. But, Nawin-san was able to convince me to join in the war because, in the end, I'll be doing it for Valerie. To bring back the grails to her so she can get better. I was so blinded by fear that I didn't see that fact, but, Nawin-san cleared that fear in me to see the truth."
Rias's smile grows when hearing this. A smile of fondness and warmth. She turns back to the door. "That's Nawin-kun for you. He always finds a way to help people no matter how dire the situation looks. He isn't someone that smiles every time and be the light for the group. I think Issei holds that role more. But, Nawin-kun is our pillar. The small light in the darkness that helps us when the situation is dire. The person I can undoubtedly trust for judgment when our lives depend on it. Someone I would trust to cover my back through Hollow Hell."
Rias chuckles a bit and looks at the ground. "Honestly... I wonder where we would be now if I hadn't revived him. It's truly a thought that scares me." Gasper is slightly taken aback by how sincere that comment was from his King. The Vladi can see that Nawin has played a significant role in shaping Rias to becoming the kind of person and leader she is today. Though in the end, Gasper can see the impact Nawin has made for all his friend. When he has woken up and saw his friends again, Gasper can see how much all of them have changed and matured. As times goes by, Gasper notices a big part of that is because of Nawin and the charisma he's shown. It inspired Rias and the group to become the strong individual that they are today. It has changed him as well. Giving him more confidence compared to his previous self.
"Ah," Rias turns to Gasper with a curious glance "Has Valerie woken up yet?" "No," the boy shakes his head though his smile didn't wane "She hasn't regained consciousness, but she is steadily improving! Day by day Valerie is looking more like her old self. Queen Carmilla says that it shouldn't be long until she wakes up" Gasper informs brightly, clearly excited to finally talk with his longtime friend very soon.
Rias also smile at the news. "That's lovely to hear. I can't wait to meet her" "Hehe, she's an amazing person, Buchou" "Ahaha, I believe you." Rias grins and affectionately ruffles the young boy's soft lock. "Now, let's go have breakfast, shall we?" "Ok!"
Near Ashen Forest
The day goes by peacefully. Rias and the group help the Carmilla with some normal labors. Issei and Riser got assigned to head out and hunt some of the remaining Tepes that were able to escape from the battlefield. The information they received from the scout said that some of them are holding up in a cave near Ashen Forest. Trying to recover then start a rebellion by recruiting more men.
When hearing about this news. The Queen of Carmilla request Rias for assistance since the Carmilla's soldiers is still recovering from the vicious battle. Rias gladly lend a hand by sending Riser and Issei since the two are more than capable of eliminating a few dozens of soldiers.
"They sure picked an annoying spot to hide," Riser cross his arms and grunts, his face frown deeply "Fucking annoying." "They are trying to hide, Phenex" Issei retorts casually, crossing his arms behind his head "A tense forest like this is an ideal place" "Stop sounding smart... It doesn't suit you one bit" "Oh shut it."
Riser hears from behind a long sigh from the Hyoudou. "... What's wrong?" "Nothing," Issei quickly replies, which just makes it sound more unconvincing "It's about Nawin isn't it?" Riser says and glances back to spot the slightly surprised look on the Hyoudou's eyes.
Issei sighs once more and gives a stiff nod. "Yeah... It seems I am still so far away from him. When I saw him going all out against Marius. Pushing beyond his limits... I was in awed and at the same time frustrated. I honestly thought after the tournament that he and I were on the same level, but once again Nawin proved that he is own a whole other league."
The two comes to a stop. Riser turns around to see Issei staring at his right hand. "When we were getting Akeno-senpai's gift I had to go all out and use all of my power because Nawin was down. At that time when I felt that large surge of power coursing through my body. I felt happy because I could protect Nawin, but also the reason I was happy because I was reaching his level and maybe even surpassing it. At the end of the day, I saved him for once, and it was not the other way around." Issei grits his teeth and clenches his palm into a fist "But when I saw him against Marius then saw him in that form... I knew that fantasy of me being near his level was just that... A fantasy. He is still standing in that level above anyone else in the group, and I am still stood below him."
Issei looks up and receives a hard right hook to the side of his face that sends him tumbling backward to the ground. "Argh!" Issei grunts before quickly sit up, opening his eyes to glare at the Phenex "What the hell was that for?!" "Because you are acting like a sissy!" Riser shouts back, surprising the Hyoudou.
"I consider you a worthy rival like Nawin, but if you continue to act like this then I might as well discard you as nothing but a damn spineless coward!" Riser hollers then point at the Hyoudou "You have a fucking Longinus inside you! A power that most people would kill for! Act like a damn proper wielder would you?! Do you ever see Nawin act like you when he gets defeated?! Hell nah! He gets up and continues to improve!".
Riser brings his arm up as flames explode around the palm "If he got stronger than get off your ass and train harder to beat him! You have an Archdevil as your teacher for fuck sake! You think I got that kind of opportunity?! No! I train myself all these months to get stronger to keep up with you and Nawin! You see my sulking when I saw just how far Nawin has improved?! No! It just gives me more determination to improve so one day I can challenge him and beat him!"
In the mindscape, Ddraig was listening to the Phenex's words with great surprise. Not expecting such motivating words to come out from a person like Riser Phenex. Though, he is thankful for this outburst. It'll definitely help his wielder.
Issei stares at Riser with stunned wide-eyes as the words said replays in his mind like a broken record. Issei cocks his head to the side and a small smirk form on his lip. "Ahaha... For once, Phenex" he chuckles and looks back at the blonde "You're right... You are absolutely right." Issei raises up to his feet and looks up to the sky "If Nawin saw me like this he would be disappointed."
Issei looks at his right hand and clenches it to a fist "I'll keep training and training until I become even stronger than him." 'I can truly say you are... my best friend' Nawin's words replays in the Hyoudou's mind. Those words he spoke before they fused in Shigemi. Those words meant much to Issei. "I want to meet his expectation and more than that... Surpass it one day and to do that I need to beat him."
Riser discards the flame and brings his arm down. A small smile graces his lip "That's more like it. Finally woken up, aye?" "Yeah," Issei chuckles a bit and looks at the Phenex, smirking "Thanks" "Huh, don't expect me to give you another pep talk" Riser retorts, crossing his arms and turn around to resume walking. Issei just smiles before following the Phenex.
Walking for a few minutes in silence. Riser steps through an invisible wire on the ground to set off a trap. "Riser!" Issei shouts, seeing a huge log bursting from the bushes and speed toward the blonde. "Like I'll fall for that!" Riser turns around and clenches his right hand into a fist, smashing it at the incoming log, destroying it into thousands of wood pieces.
Next, twenty men burst from the bushes and trees. Surrounding the devils from all directions. "Devils!" one of the Tepes shouts in utter loathe "Come here all by yourselves!" "Kukuku, we'll enjoy skinning you bastards!" one by one the enemy spats their comments.
Riser frown deeply "And we are supposed to take them back alive?" "Yeah," Issei gets to a stance, deciding not to summon the boosted gear for such a simple task "It's the Queen's order. So, don't use your flames" "Tch, fine."
"Dieee!" all of the Tepes runs and jumps toward the devils with killing intent. All reveal their weapons or raise their arms for battle. Issei's eyes snap open to show those emerald orbs. He burst forward and deliver a brutal uppercut to one of the enemy's stomach with so much force it causes a small shockwave that sends the enemies close by blasting away.
Issei pulls his fist back, and the man immediately drops to the ground like a sack of potato. Unconscious. Taking a step to the right, the Hyoudou avoid a kick from behind. The man flies by, and Issei gives a roundhouse kick that connects to the back of the man's head, instantly knocking him out.
"Bastard!" two comes from above with their lance pushed forward. Issei snaps his head up and swipes his right arm upwards with such power it discharges a slashing force that knocks the enemies away and sends them crashing through a few trees.
Another man comes bursting from behind with a dagger aimed at the Hyoudou's back. Without looking, Issei lifts his left leg back and connects it at the man's chin, sending him blasting away through the earth.
"Come on!" Riser throws the man he just knocked out to the ground and turns to the three rushing toward him from the front. The enemies suddenly discharge magic blasts from their palm. Riser clicks his tongue and taps his left feet to the ground, creating a wall of flames that easily blocks the attacks.
As the enemies get near. Riser burst from the wall of flames and swings a high right kick that smashes at all the man's face in one swoop. Blasting all of them away to the ground, knocked out. Two more Tepes comes from the side with their swords aimed to the Phenex.
Riser simply flicks his fingers to set the two man's head on fire. "Ahhh!" both are forced to stop and try to get rid of the fire, giving a clear opening. Riser burst forward and stretch his arms out to deliver the men a vicious clothesline that sends them spinning in the air a few time before crashing to the ground. Riser stops and flicks his fingers once more to extinguish the flames.
It didn't take long for Issei and Riser to finish off the rest of the rogues. None of the Tepes stood a chance against the High-Class Devils. "Aaandd there we go," Issei ties up a knob then stands up to look at all the unconscious men tied in the rope together. "Now that is just a sad display," Riser comments. "They should have really just surrendered" Issei state with a sigh "Just ended up getting beaten up" "Pride, Hyoudou... Something you lack at times" "Oh shut it."
Time Skip
The day continues to move by as the people of Vamhaven advances their duty to rebuild their normal life back after the dreadful war. Soon, before everyone knows it the day is over and night sets. The full, glistering white moon shines over the dark lands. Many individuals in the Carmilla Castle has already gone to bed with the exception of the guards staying awake for their patrol duties.
In the room that belongs to Valerie Tepes. The beautiful woman still laid on her bed. The bright moonlight passes through the windows and shines on her sleeping face. Then, the index finger starts to miraculously twitch ever softly. Then, the thumb cocks to the right and left. The thin-line lip starts slowly to open to show those fangs.
For a minute, the Tepes just laid there, her fingers moving around to get back the feel of the nerves. Mouth stretch up and down. Then, gently, the eyelids open to show those brilliant red-wine colored eyes with slit pupils. Life shines clearly in those orbs compared to the dead ones of before.
Valerie didn't make haste and instead takes a large gulp of air. Filling it into her lungs before exhaling it out. She does this a couple of times before blinking then starts to take a look around at the surrounding. "I-Is this my r-room?" Valerie utters in a soft and angelic voice that'll cause anyone to stop when hearing her speak.
Valerie slowly pushes herself up to a sitting position. Feeling her body is still frail, recovering from being in a comatose state. The muscle needs time to rework after being inactive for a while. Valerie drops her slender legs to the side of the bed and blink once when seeing an empty chair is placed near the bed. She sniffs and gasps by the unmistakable senses entering her nose.
"So, it really was you, Gasper" Valerie whispers with great happiness "Oh... I'm so sorry for making you worried. You must have been scared." Valerie looks around and sees she's the only one in her room. "Hmm..." Valerie turns her head to the other side to look at the windows, seeing the moon shining brilliantly in the skies "Perhaps a little walk will do me right. My legs need some activity."
Valerie looks around and smiles when seeing her old crutches is still lean beside her nightstand. In the past, she suffered an injury on her legs and required to use crutches for over a week. Valerie scoot a bit then takes only one crutch and holds it under her left arm. Taking a deep breath, the woman stands up in a smooth motion and lean on the crutch for a bit of support while keeping her legs straight.
Besides a few shakiness on the legs, Valerie is able to stand straight. "Take it slow, Valerie" she mutters to herself with a soft smile and begins slowly advancing toward the door. For a few minutes, Valerie just walks through the quiet and empty hallway. But she knows her way around the castle like of her hand since she has lived here for so long. Currently, Valerie wants to head to the back garden. A place she always goes to when she wants to relax and enjoy the peacefulness.
Valerie takes a right turn and goes through a glass door to enter the vibrant garden. Even though it is night right now. The roses, ageratum, buttercup, and many more breeds of flowers shine vibrantly. A breathtaking scene indeed and shows the garden has been taken care of diligently. Valerie also tends to water the flowers, looking after the garden as one of her hobbies.
Wearing a bright smile, Valerie takes a careful step down the stair and feel her bare feet land on the soft grass. She breathes in the fantastic aroma from the flowers and exhales. Breathing in the garden's rich fragrance always sets the Tepes at ease.
Valerie was ready to head toward one of the chairs placed in front of the garden to relax. But she stops when feeling a presence on the left. Valerie turns and silently gasp at what she sees. Standing there at the edge of the garden with his back facing towards the Tepes is none other than Nawin Makasha.
Nawin stares up at the night sky with emotionless eyes. Record of the previous battle plays in the Makasha's mind. Remembering himself turning into that form and lost control of it. Putting the other's lives in danger. 'In the end... I allowed Marius to play me,' Nawin mentally spat in loathing, gritting his teeth and clenching his hands.
Nawin takes a deep breath before exhaling. Calming himself. Bringing his right arm up and looks at the hand. Nawin starts thinking of that form he took. 'A new power that I need to master. Unlike anything before that I have learned, this is a transformation ability. Something comparable to Lucy's blue form.' Nawin closes his palm into a fist, his eyes shift to glowing red, burning with determination "I'll master it and become even stronger. I refuse to lose control like that ever again."
"H-Hello," a soft voice calls from behind that surprise Nawin and have him snap around to meet eyes with Valerie. The boy and girl froze still when their eyes met. Their whole world freeze for momentarily and their breathing halts. In one glance, both felt like they just had a reunion. An odd warmth feeling that strangers should not get when meeting each other for the first time. But, for Nawin and Valerie, this is what they are feeling. It was strange though at the same time comforting. Like a feeling of relief surging in them.
Nawin's expression loosens, and his eyes slowly revert to the usual brown. The blank look is gone and replace with more soothing and calmer one. "Vale-" "Nawin," Valerie cuts in, surprising the Makasha. 'How does she know my name?' Nawin asks in puzzled tone 'She must have only regained conscious, and everyone is asleep...'
Valerie smiles warmly and takes a step but trips on a pebble that's laid on the ground. "Gah!" Valerie yelps and closes her eyes, bracing for impact. But, two arms come out of nowhere and catch her to stop the fall. Instead of hitting the hard ground, Valerie feels herself laying on a warm and comforting surface.
Opening her eyes, the Tepes is shocked when seeing herself resting on the Makasha's chest. Her arms are unconsciously gripping his sides tightly. Her feet are digging into the earth in fright. But, the rapid beating in her hearth quickly lessons when feeling the warmth emitting from the Makasha's body and hearing his soothing heart beating calmly.
"You ok?" Nawin whispers and feels the Tepes moves her head up and down gently "Y-yes." Valerie pulls back to stand straight then gives a bashful smile "I am so sorry. I wasn't paying attention to my surrounding," "It's fine," Nawin shakes his head and smiles in reassurance "I can see you are still recovering from being in a coma."
Nawin kneels to pick up the crutch and gently place it back under the Tepes's arm. "Thank you," "Mhm-hmm." Nawin steps back and smiles "So, you are Valerie Tepes..." he says and brings his right arm forward "Nawin Makasha... A pleasure to finally meet you in a more appropriate term" "Ah," Valerie smile and brings her free right arm forward, grasping the Makasha's soft hand "Valerie Tepes as you know!" she giggles a bit "The pleasure is mine, Nawin. It's a great joy to finally meet the man that defeated my brother and returned the rest of the Sephiroth Graals to me. Thanks to you I am able to stand here."
Nawin returns his arm to the side then raise an eyebrow in question. "How do you know this?" "Gasper," Valerie answers with a warm smile "Even though I was comatose... I was able to hear his voice. It was hollow at first, but when the grails were returned in me... I could hear his voice much clearer as I started to recover. He told me all about the bloody war and what great help you and your friends' contribution did. Because of them and you, Carmilla was able to win the war."
"Seems like he talked a lot," Nawin state with an amuse smile while Valerie breaks into a fit of giggle "Ahaha, he certainly did. But I didn't mind in the slightest. When hearing how happy he was by speaking about his friends and you... It brings me great joy to see he finally made great and trustworthy friends that brings him joy. It's all I ever wanted for him when we separated."
A soft and cold night breeze blows past the two. Nawin watches Valerie with the once amused smile shifting to a warm one by her words. For just a second, an image of her appears over Valerie. Just for a short second but Nawin saw it clearly.
Nawin closes his eyes, and the smile widens "I see... I'm glad to have played a part to have you and Gasper be reunited very soon" "Yes," Valerie slightly tilts her head to the side and smile in gratitude "I am forever in your debt. For helping Gasper. For aiding Carmilla. And for saving me, Nawin Makasha."
"Don't mention." Valerie blinks in surprise by such a casual response and tilts her head more "You are too humble, Nawin" she states with a fond smile. "No," the Makasha shakes his head and chuckle softly "I honestly find it a bit awkward getting thanks like this. I am just a guy who is doing what he thinks is right. I came here because Gasper wanted to save you. I fought in the war because I saw the misery that Marius has caused on the people in this realm. I... I was determined to bring the grails back to you because I didn't want Gasper to lose you. To suffer the same pain that I once did."
Valerie's eyes slowly widen by the Makasha's last words. "The same pain?" she whispers out "To lose someone you care deeply for. To lose a person who has stuck by your side no matter what. Losing that kind of person," Nawin's expression turns grim as he shifts around to hide his face in the shadows "Hurts more than any physical pain."
Nawin's eyes snap open in surprise when feeling slender arms wraps around him. A soft body press to his back and a soothing breather emits near his right ear. "V-Valerie?" Nawin whispers out "Don't be sad," Valerie replies in a soothing and soft voice "After all the good you have done. After all the lives you saved, including mine. It isn't right for you to be sad... Please be happy and smile."
'Don't look at me like that, Nawin' an unmistakable voice emerge in the Makasha's mind follow by a melodic giggle 'I'm fine so please be happy and smile! I never want to see you look grim or sad again!'
Nawin's lip twitches upwards before forming into a soft smile. He relaxes in the Tepes's embrace. "Thank you... Valerie." Another mild night breeze blow passes them. The moon's light shines on the two individual and illuminates on their body.
Next Day
"Nighty-Five... Nighty-Six... N-Nighty-Seven..." Akame deeply pants, sweat covering her entire face and dripping to the wooden ground of the training room. The Knight grits her teeth and declining her arm one more. Her chest is nearing the ground before she pushes back up for another rep of pushup. "Nighty-Eight," she mutters through the clenched teeth.
It's early in the morning, and Akame is already doing her exercise. Warming up her body for the rest of the day. But, with her other arm currently gone it has caused some task to be difficult. Usually, Akame would perform a hundred and fifty pushups every morning and rarely does one arm, finding it a waste of time since it doesn't use all the muscles that a proper pushup would provide.
Though with her right arm missing, Akame doesn't want to have an excuse to mess with her usual routine. So she decided to do a one arm pushup as much as possible until her body gives. "N-Nighty-Nine!" Akame pants and opens her eyes to glare at the floor before slowly going back down once again then slowly push up "O-One Hundred!" she exclaims, then immediately push hard on the ground to send her hopping up and landing on the feet.
Akame hunch forward and pants heavily before bringing the left arm up to wipe away the sweats on her forehead. Akame's eyes sharpen in determination and jump in the air to do a full spinning kick. When the Knight's left leg touches the ground, she thrust her arm forward but quickly loses balance from using too much strength behind the punch. Akame goes stumbling forward before losing her footing entirely.
A hand comes from the front and grabs Akame by her shoulder then gently push her back straight. "Uh?!" Akame's eyes widen when setting sight on her smiling King, who's looking at her with those warm and caring brown orbs.
"Akame," Nawin utters and is ready to bring his hand back before Akame's left-hand clasp over it. An action that surprises the Makasha. The Knight has her head hung low so the front bangs over her eyes. Nawin's expression softens, and he brings his other arm to wrap around the girl's shoulder then gently pulls her into his chest.
No words need to be said between the two. Akame didn't need words to express how worried she was for Nawin. The two has grown close enough that they can read each other emotions at times just by their actions.
Nawin gently stroke his Knight's back in comfort. "Everything is fine now, Akame. I promise," he whispers and gets a soft nod from the girl. Akame trusted her King and his words undoubtedly. Even with that image of that form resurfacing in her mind. Akame knows that he will be able to control that power one day and become even stronger.
Akame knows that at the end of the day, Nawin does these risky and dangerous plans to protect those he cares for. If she gives doubts to him, it becomes an absolute insult to all his efforts.
Elsewhere
"Valerieee!" Gasper cries and jumps into the woman's arms. Valerie grins brightly and embraces her dear friend tightly. Allowing him to cry on her chest. Rias and the others stood at the entrance of the room. All of them are in stunned by seeing the Tepes awakened form.
They have just come to visit Valerie, believing she is still in a coma, but the moment Gasper opened the door. They were greeted with Valerie brightly saying morning to them. The look of shock on the group's face is quickly replaced with happiness. All of them are glad to see Valerie regaining conscious and Gasper finally reuniting with his friend.
It felt like all of their hard work in Vamhaven has paid off in full. Fitting as Gasper is one of the main reasons, they entered this realm. To see him crying in joy brings a smile to everyone's face.
Valerie gently pulls the boy back and claps her hands on his cheek. Gently stroking the tears away and smile in warmth. "It's wonderful to see you again, Gasper," she says "Y-yeah," the boy sniff and gives the biggest smile possible "I am so glad you are finally awake, Valerie! I was so worried" "I know... I know. But everything is fine now. I promise" "Mhm-hmm!"
Valerie turns to the doorway and gives a welcoming smile to the group. "Is this your friends?" she asks, and Gasper's eyes widen. Remember that the others are in the room. "Ah, right!" he hastily stands straight and grins "I have made a lot of friends since we last met, Valerie!"
In a burst of excitement to introduce everyone. Gasper appears beside his King "This is my Buchou! Rias Gremory." "It's a pleasure to meet you finally, Valerie," Rias says politely with a smile "The pleasure is mine," Valerie claps her hands together and grin "You are his King?" "Yes," "I see. Thank you so much for looking after Gasper" "It's not a problem" Rias shakes her head and giggles "Gasper is a valuable member of our group and a dear friend of mine."
One by one, everyone introduced themselves to Valerie, who smiles the entire time. By first impressions, she can see that all of them are great and trustworthy people. People that clearly Gasper trust and are happy with. Which is all she wanted for her dear long-time friend.
"It's wonderful to meet you all," Valerie replies, clapping her hands together and smile brightly "Thank you so much for being such good friends with Gasper. It brings me joy to see he is in good hands" "A bit shy, but he is a kind-hearted person" Issei inserts with a grin "Ahaha, he sure is." Gasper is embarrassed by all the praise and just grin sheepishly. Rias is surprised to see how expressive her Bishop is. No doubt because of his happy mood of Valarie's awakening.
"Lots of happiness in the air here," a soft and calm voice speak from the doorway that causes everyone to turn and gasp in surprise. Nawin enters the room with Akame by his side. "Nawin!" Issei is the first to yell and grins widely "You're awake!" "I am indeed, Issei" the other replies with a soft smile.
"My baby brother is finally awake!" Rias comically cries and comes crashing at the Makasha, wrapping her arms around him for a tight embrace. Nawin sighs but smiles nonetheless, accepting the gesture and wrapping his arms around the Gremory. "They are siblings?!" Valerie whispers to Gasper in shock "Hehe, no," he replies, shaking his head and giggles "Buchou just sees Nawin-san as a little brother" "Oh," Valerie nods in realization before snickering "That's quite cute."
RIas pull back and grins "Glad to have you back, Nawin-kun!" "Thanks," Nawin replies, and his smile widen ever slightly. A feeling of happiness and relief flows around the Makasha's body. At the back of his mind, he was concern that the others would be left afraid or scarred at what he became during the battle against Marius. But, seeing all those joyful and relief smiles on everyone's face has erased that feeling. They don't see him any differently after that.
When Rias step to the side. Nawin sees Akeno approaching him and wordlessly wraps her arms around the waist while burying her head on his right shoulder. "I'm so glad you are ok," Akeno whispers "Once again I made you worry," Nawin replies in a quiet voice "I'm sorry, Akeno. You must have been scared" "I-I was... I was afraid of losing you, and I c-couldn't do anything a-about it" "I'm sorry for putting you through that. Forgive me, Akeno."
Everyone stays silent and just smile at the couple moment. Rias watch this with happiness. Just looking at them display the evident love radiating between the two. The love for each other. Akeno's relief tears dripping onto the Makasha's shirt. Nawin's soft and sincere smile that is rarely shown. 'They will overcome this and grow stronger together. Like they always do.'
"Valerie," an unmistakable light and kind voice enters the room that has everyone turn to see Queen Carmilla standing by the doorway. Staring at the young girl with a bright smile plastered on her face. Nawin and Akeno move to the right to allow the Queen to enter the room.
"It's wonderful to see you again, my Queen," Valerie says and gives a respectful nod. "Oh, dear," the Queen stops at the side of the bed and shakes her head in amusement "How many times do I have to tell you. Don't be so formal anymore" "Ahaha," Valerie giggles a bit, stretching the back of her head sheepishly "Sorry, Alina."
"So that's her name!" Issei shouts and flicks his finger in glee on finally knowing the Queen's name. For disrupting the moment, Issei earns a smack on the head by Rias "Shush!" "S-sorry."
Alina places a hand on Valerie's shoulder, giving a soft squeeze. Her face just shows nothing but relief and love. "It's good to finally have you back, dear. I was so worried" she says in a motherly tone "Sorry to make you go through that," Valerie replies, grimacing "Marius send his men when I am at my weakest" "Indeed. He has planned it well. But," Alina turns to Nawin, giving him a grateful smile "He is gone now. Thanks to you, Nawin Makasha."
"You are being too generous, Queen Carmilla" Nawin state "Everyone in this room and Carmilla's warriors did their part to allow me to finish Marius off. If it wasn't for everyone's hard work... I wouldn't be able to get the job done." Everyone smile at the Makasha's words and nod "Team effort it was," Issei says with a grin "Indeed," Rias nod "Everyone played a key role for Carmilla to come out victorious."
Time Skip: Night
The rest of the day went by fast as the group continues to help the people with some labor. Nawin wanted to help too, but Rias and Akeno forced him to stay in the castle to relax and take it easy considering he just regained consciousness. So, for his free time, Nawin just spent it with Akame in the training room doing some light spars and workouts. An activity that always brings a small smile to the Knight's face. Being able to spend some alone time with her King while training.
As night descends on the realm. Rias along with the rest of the group gathered in a meeting room for a private conference. A meeting to discuss the Makasha's erupt transformation during the battle with Marius.
Nawin is set between Akeno and Akame with Rias seated across him. Her expression held seriousness that only reserved in battle or when a relevant topic needs to be discussed. Even though it is rare considering Rias's usually kind, devilish, and at times childish persona. She can be an intimidating individual when the time is called, or someone pushed her too far. Moments like those and this right now reminds everyone why she is the King and the heir to the throne of the Gremory clan.
Nawin remains stoic and stares back at the Gremory's sharp turquoise colored eyes. "Earlier you said you want to discuss the transformation, correct?" Nawin asks for clarification. In honest he doesn't want this meeting to happen since he is still new to this newfound power himself. It's something he is eager to start understanding when his body is fully recovered. And, right now Tairex has been silent along with Sairex, so there isn't much for him to go on.
Rias gives a conform nod "Yes, do you remember the event?" "Yes," Nawin answers "Even though it was clear I wasn't in control of my body. I held the memory of it when I regained control." "So, you lost control of your sacred gear?" Issei asks and receives a nod "Yes... Marius was able to anger me to the point I just lost control of my emotions and the sacred gear's power took over."
"It's hard to believe for you to lose control like that," Riser admits, scratching his cheek, eyeing the Makasha "What did he do?" "I rather left that forgotten, Riser" "Bu-" "I rather left that forgotten," Nawin cuts Akeno with a sharp tone which surprises many and has the Himejima instantly go silent.
Rias sees Nawin's eyes darken, clearly whatever Marius said offended and enraged him to a large scale. 'Perhaps it is best we don't know.' "How did you regain control?" Rias asks, changing the subject "My sacred gear helped me," Nawin answers, deciding it is best to leave Sayomi's involvement out. Bringing her up will just cause more chaos and questions. Things he rather not deals with right now.
"It helped you?" Issei repeats "Like you, my sacred gear is a dragon, Issei," Nawin reminds "So when seeing I let the power take over. It woke me up and gave me some encouraging words. Seeing what I have become and putting all of you in danger. I quickly did my best to regained control and overcame the raw power." "After regaining control, you defeated Marius?" Rias asks and gets a nod "Yes, with that new form I was able to kill the bastard quickly. After seeing that Marius was killed... I just release all of the power and returned to my normal form then lose consciousness from the exhaustion. The battle was finally over" Nawin says.
"... There's one thing," Rias open her eyes "How did you get the grails out of Marius?" "I-I want to know too," Gasper inserts, staring at the Makasha. Nawin leans back and crosses his arms, closing his eyes "Why are you making such a big deal about this?" he says, causing everyone to blink "Sacred Gears is in our hearts. People who have it was born with it. Sacred gears bond with their users since the beginning of birth. The stronger the bond then, the stronger the attachment. Marius tried to take that kind of item forcibly. Thinking it is just a tool to be used for his own bidding. But, some sacred gears... Especially Longinus has their own minds. I'm positive it hated that it was ripped away from Valerie and forced into another user. So," Nawin reopens his eyes to look straight at Rias "As the battle was close to an end. Marius's mentality was already weakened from the punishment he took from me. Meaning that his will to keep the sacred gear close is diminishing. Not trusting its power as much anymore. Having doubts as I continued to stay alive. After that, all it took was for me to destroy his heart entirely, and if the Sephiroth Grail wanted to escape, it had the opening to do so. And with how things turned out... It was clear that the Longinus wanted to return to Valerie."
Everyone was caught off-guard by how much Nawin knows about sacred gears. This knowledge was something even they didn't know. "I'm guessing Azazel taught you this?" Rias comments with a slight smile "Yeah, the old man wants me to know lots of stuff about sacred gears. I have one so," Nawin smirk a bit "I should have a decent amount of knowledge on it."
"What would happen if the sacred gear didn't get released from Marius, Nii-chan?" Koneko asks, tilting her head in question "Then he would just regenerate from the injury I gave him, and we would continue to battle more until I am able to capture him," Nawin answers with a slight smile aim to the Rook. "We would then have to do a ritual to remove the Sephiroth Grail from Marius and returned it to Valerie."
"There's one more thing," Rias says, which cause Nawin to sigh and rub his eyes "What is it?" he asks, clearly not hiding on wanting this session to be over. "I'm sorry, Nawin-kun, but this is an important question," Rias says, knowing the Makasha is still exhausted "Just say it, Rias" "Since you have recollections of the battle with Marius... You must have seen that barrier appearing out of nowhere, right?"
Nawin brings his arm down on the battle and opens his eyes "Yeah, I remember it. The pink barrier," "Correct, it was clear you didn't create it since you were on a rampage. Marius was unable to make one at the moment and had no reason to. It was from a third-party," Rias state, her eyes never leaving the Makasha's "Did you remember seeing anyone inside the crater with you and Marius?" "No," Nawin answers swiftly, "It was just Marius and me. No one interrupted us, and if there was a third-party, then they were keeping themselves hidden. Don't forget I was in a middle of a grueling battle," Nawin state with a harden expression "I didn't have time to turn my attention elsewhere to look for some idiot pulling that kind of stunt."
"So," Issei scratch his head in confusion "Did someone try to keep the battle contained then?" "That is a plausible reason," Riser points "Considering Nawin's rampaging. But then that brings up another question of who?" Rias stay silent and simply stares at Nawin, looking for any lies, but just like in the past, it is impossible to tell with him. Those blank brown orbs say nothing. "Then what is your thoughts on the matter, Nawin-kun?" Rias asks "Nothing," Nawin replies "I am not going to throw in speculation since I have no idea who did it. It could have been Marius's party or some unknowns. Clearly, when the battle was over, they escaped via teleportation since you didn't catch sight of them."
"Alright," Rias speaks, the seriousness disappears from her face and replace with the usual elegant and kind expression. "Thanks for telling us everyone, Nawin-kun" she says then gives an apologetic smile "Sorry if I planned this meeting so quickly, but the questions were eating inside me for the past few days" "It's fine," Nawin shakes his head, a small smile form on his lip "I get it, Rias."
"Then let's finally head to bed!" Issei jumps off his chair and stretches his back, yawning loudly "I am tired!" "After that big dinner," Riser speaks, a yawn escapes from his mouth "Pretty sure all of us are ready for bed" "Mm-hmm," both Gasper and Koneko hum in agreement.
Rias glance at Akeno and sees how quiet she's become. "Let's head out," Issei announce and start heading to the door before Rias can speak. Everyone promptly gets up and start exiting the room. Rias sigh when Akeno too has gotten up. She wordlessly stands and also heads to the door.
"U-Um, Nawin-san" Gasper calls out by the door which has Nawin stop and turn to him "Yes?" "C-Can we talk for a minute," he asks. Nawin blinks before a soft smile forms on his lip "Sure." Everyone sees this and wordlessly leaves the room to give the two privacy. Shutting the door on the way.
Nawin kneels in front of the young boy, and before he can say anything, Gasper immediately jumps in for an embrace. Surprise by this at first, Nawin quickly relaxes and accepts the gesture. "You ok?" he asks with a warm smile. "Better than ever!" Gasper replies with joy, pulling back to show the biggest and brightest smile Nawin has ever seen on the Vladi.
Gasper wipes away tiny tears from the corner of his eyes. "I-It's just," he speaks, looking at Nawin "I didn't get the chance to thank you, Nawin-san! For saving, Valerie!" "Ah," Nawin shakes his head and chuckles a bit "It's fine, Gasper. I'm just glad," he brings his right hand up and places it on the young boy's head, softly ruffling the light blonde lock "You two are reunited again. Very glad."
"U-um," Gasper stutters again which have Nawin blinks, seeing the boy still has something else to say, "What is it?" "C-Can I start c-calling you Nii-chan like Koneko-chan?" he asks, blushing lightly. Nawin laughs softly at the boy's adorableness and his innocent request. Giving a warm smile, Nawin nod "If you want to then I don't mind, Gasper." A shy and happy grin breaks out of the Vladi's face "T-thank, Nii-chan! For everything" "No problem, Gasper."
Time Skip
With everyone going on their separate ways. Nawin now finds himself walking down a hallway with Akeno. It didn't take much for the Makasha to notice his lover's current downcast mood. "I'm sorry, Akeno," Nawin says, wrapping his arm around her shoulder to pull her in "For snapping at you. It's just that subject is a sour one. It's best left forgotten... I want to forget it" "... I understand," Akeno looks up and gives a weak smile "I respect your wishes."
Nawin raise an eyebrow "Then what's the problem? Why do you look so downhearted?" Instead of getting an answer, Akeno suddenly stops which also force Nawin to halt. Biting her lip, Akeno turns to come face to face with her lover, looking at him in the eyes with anxious.
"W-why," Akeno whispers "Why did you use it, Nawin-kun? Why did you use that cursed mark..." Nawin's eyes widen slightly by the question as his arms drop from the Himejima's shoulder and fall to his side. "Akeno..." Nawin sighs, not currently equipped to deal with this "I-" "You had a choice," Akeno cuts in "You could have fused" "Ak-" "You could have ended that quicker! Without suffering from the mark's power or losing control of your sacred gear!" "THEN WHAT?!" Nawin explodes, silencing the Himejima in shock.
Nawin's eyes lit up in anger "Have you forgotten about the risk of using those rings?! There is no way to tell if Issei and I can be separated! Is that what you prefer?! Instead of using the mark, you want me to fuse and risk being stuck in that form forever?!" Nawin places his right hand to his chest "Do you have that little faith in me?! You don't trust me enough to control the mark?!" "B-But you lost control!" "And I regained it back!" Nawin retort "I was able to because of my determination on wanting to save you and everyone! If I were to fuse! There's nothing I can do to be my own being again?! It's out of my control! Unlike the mark or my own power!"
"I'm scared!" Akeno screams back, unable to take the yelling "I-I'm horrified when seeing you like that! When you use the mark... You are so ruthless and violent... It's n-not you. Every s-second I see you in t-that state then i-in that form! I was i-in agony!"
Nawin watch tears flooding down the Himejima's glossy eyes. Hanging his head down, Nawin pulls Akeno in for an embrace. Burying her face to his chest. Without hesitation, she wraps her arms around him, holding it tightly. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry for putting you through that" "P-Please don't lose control a-again. P-please d-don't let the mark consume y-you" "I will try my hardest not to. For you, Akeno."
Even when spoken those words, trying to calm and comfort the Himejima. Nawin can't help but feel sad. Sad that because deep in his heart. He can clearly see that Akeno doesn't believe in him. Doesn't believe he can handle the mark or even his own power. She preferred to let Nasei handled Marius then him. Blindly throwing the chance of him never returning to his own being out of the window. It saddens him even after all these months of being together. There is still a considerable gap between them. And, it is clear he is acknowledging it more than Akeno.
Near the end of the hallway that leads to the right shows a shadowy figure. Leaning on the edge of the wall is Akame. Her sharp eyes glow brightly in the dark. Emotions of anger and frustration manifest clear in those red orbs. 'Akeno Himejima,' Akame leans out of the wall and begin walking deeper through the hallway 'You should be the last person to lose faith in him. Pathetic.'
Next Day
"I'm sorry for burdening you," "You aren't at all. So please don't think like that, Valerie." It was past breakfast time. This will mark as the last day the group will be spending in Vamhaven. Many decided to head out to finally unwind and explore Carmilla for once instead of doing labors or hunting down the rouges. Seeing what it has to offer.
Though, one person has decided to stay behind in the castle. That person being Nawin Makasha. Currently, he is in the garden pushing a wheelchair where Valerie is seated. She wanted to wander around the garden, and Nawin gladly provides his assistance to push her around. Considering the backyard is enormous. Valerie doesn't find it wise for her to push herself too much on crutches. Nawin also thought the same, and that's where he brought up the idea of using a wheelchair instead.
Valerie looks up and smiles brightly at the Makasha. "I'm glad to hear. Though I assumed you'd rather spend time with your lover or friends than me" "I will always get to spend time with them back home," Nawin calmly replies. Valerie giggles a bit and turns her head forward to drink in the vibrant view of all the different flowers planted on the healthy soil field.
The two didn't bring that one question up. Why both decided to spend time together. It just happened. Nawin saw Valerie wanted to leave her room on a crutch. Tired of just lying in her bed, so he offered to help. They didn't ask because even when not knowing each other that well. The two enjoyed each other's company. Valerie wanted to learn about the man that saved her. Nawin was the same. He is curious to know more about Valerie and see what kind of person she is.
"Do you like this garden?" Valerie asks as a couple of butterflies hovers pass them "I do," Nawin answers with a faint smile "It's very calming here. The air is fresh, and it is just peaceful." "That's why I love it here," Valerie stretch her arms to the side and sigh in pleasant "It feels like heaven for me!"
"You sure are acting like a child," Nawin state with a smile "Hehehe," Valerie stretch her head "I tend to be like that when I am in a good mood. Being here never fails to lift my spirits up" "It's your special place, aye?" "Yeah," Valerie relaxes back on the chair and smile in content "Everyone tends to have that one special place or person they can go when feeling down. Helping them forget about their worries."
"Do you have that, Nawin?" Valerie asks, glancing up for a moment "... I don't know," the Makasha answer, which catches the Tepes off-guard. Not expecting that reply. Nawin opens his mouth to continue "There's only ever been one person that was able to give me that feeling. Whenever I was with her... She never failed to get me to smile and laugh without a care in the world. She was... my special person."
Valerie was very fascinated by learning this new information. It was clear just by his tone that Nawin cared deeply for this girl. Though, Valerie is also concern. Noticing the Makasha is using past terms when talking about her. "Where is she now?" Valerie asks in a soft tone "Sadly, she has passed away" Nawin answers "I'm so sorry to hear that," "No, it's fine. I accepted it a long time ago."
Noticing the air around them has gone a bit cold, Nawin decides to change that. "You know," he speaks, wearing a warm smile "You kind of remind me of her, Valerie" "R-really?!" the Tepes replies with surprise. "Your kindness and bright smile remind me of her," Nawin state "She was the kindest person I've ever met, and her smile never fails to brighten my day. I think... I think you two would have been great friends" "I like to believe so," Valerie replies with a soft smile.
Nawin notices a branch sticking out of the wall of bushes. He reaches forward and pushes it up to help Valerie avoid it. Releasing the branch, it snaps back to its standard angle. "Ah," Valerie blinks when hearing the Makasha's gasp "Is something wrong?!" "Nothing," Nawin stop the wheelchair for a moment to take a look at the medium size cut on his left palm "That branch was quite sharp... Should have seen that coming."
"Let me see," Valerie request which puzzles Nawin, but he decides there's no harm and stops in front of the girl, kneeling to seat her level. Offering his hand out, Valerie grasps it with gentleness and examines the cut. It isn't too deep, but the bleeding continues to leak. Nawin's eyes widen when seeing Valerie leans her head down, sticking her tongue out to lick the wound and clean the blood. Miraculously, the bleeding halts and the cut closes.
Valerie pulls back and smiles "There," she says with a toothy grin, a faint blush form on her cheeks "Your blood tastes amazing, Nawin!" "T-thanks," the Makasha stutters, still shocked by what just transpired. Valerie become fluster when seeing Nawin is just staring at her "U-um, should I have asked for your permission first?" she says, her face heating up even more "I'm sorry!" she quickly apologies in embarrassment.
"No, no!" Nawin quickly inserts and holds Valerie's hand when feeling she was about to pull back. The woman opens her eyes and looks up to see that warm and grateful smile plastered on the Makasha's face. "It's honestly fine. Thank you, Valerie" Nawin utters with sincere which immediately calms the Tepes. She sighs in relief then grins brightly "I'm glad to hear, and you're welcome!"
Looking at the scene through the windows on the higher floor is the Queen of Carmilla. She wears a bright smile when watching the two's interaction. It wasn't difficult for her to see that Nawin has caught Valerie's attention and vice-versa. Watching the two smiling at each other and holding hands. 'It looks like a love novel come to life,' Alina state with a broader smile before continuing her way through the throne room.
Next Day
Nawin, Rias, and the rest of the group stood on a familiar tall cliff that overlooks Carmilla. The Queen, Valerie, Elmenhilde, and a handful of guards are also present. The bright sun was already up with the morning light shining over the city. The group decided it was best to leave after breakfast.
"I'll miss you," Gasper whispers, embracing the girl seated on the wheelchair. "There, there," Valerie smile and gently strokes the boy's back like an older sister would do to their younger sibling when they are sad. "Nothing is stopping the both of us on visiting each other in the future is there?" Valerie says as the Vladi pulls back "I-I know."
Valerie cups her dear friend's cheek and gently wipes away the small tears with her thumbs. "I'm so proud of you, Gasper. You've grown up so much. I love you," she whispers and leans in to give a kiss to the boy's forehead. "I love you too," Gasper replies with a big smile filled with happiness "I'll visit you again soon! When you are better!" "Ahaha, I can wait."
Everyone stays silent and smile at the heartwarming scene. "Ok," Valerie exhales and gives one big grin to Gasper "Take care, Gasper and be safe" "I will," the boy nod with the new-found determination gleaming in his eyes. The two separates and gives one brighter grin to each other as a sign of reassurance.
"Once again," Alina stops beside Valerie, smiling kindly to the group "Thank you for everything. Carmilla and I owe you all a great debt" "We are glad to help," Rias replies with an elegant smile "All of us couldn't stand on the sidelines after discovering what Marius was planning." "It seems the Gremory Clan already has a perfect heir in place" Alina state which causes Rias's smile to widen.
Alina shifts her sight to where the invisible gateway hides. Her eyes gleam brightly, and the blinding doors open in existence. Gentle wind currents flow by everyone. The group turns around to the gate while Nawin remains still. His eyes set on Valerie, who also stares back at him.
Valerie's lip twists into a soft smile, and she slowly pushes herself off the wheelchair. An action that quickly alerts Elmenhilde who is holding the wheelchair's handles. "No," Valerie whispers to stop the girl "It is fine, Elmenhilde... I want to get to him on my own." Hearing the desire in the Tepes's tone, Elmenhilde ease back and wordlessly nod.
Nawin simply stays in place and watch Valerie slowly makes her way towards him. Each step draws her closer. Her eyes shine with determination. All he did is give her a supportive smile. Helping her will only make her effort go to waste. Sometimes it is best just to watch and encourage then be there to help them every time. Because in the end, you can't always be there for them.
Valerie stops in front of the Makasha and grabs his arms for support. She looks up and smiles brightly "That was easy," "Ahaha," Nawin can't help but let out a soft laugh at the comment. "There's one thing I want to give you before you leave," Valerie says, catching Nawin's attention "You don't have to," "I know, but after everything that you have done for my home, Gasper, and me. I should at least give something in return."
Valerie closes her eyes and slowly leans in to give Nawin a kiss on his cheek. An action that surprises the Makasha and the spectators. Valerie pulls back and reopens her eyes. She beams when seeing a tint blush on Nawin's cheeks "That's my gratitude for everything."
Everyone can't help but smile at the heartwarming scene. Rias glance and sees Akeno remains calm and even show a sign of a faint smile. Seeing there's no harm for such gesture.
Nawin's lip form into a warm smile, his eyes shine in nothing but calm and content. "Thank you, Valerie... Get well soon and hopefully we shall see each other soon" "I hope so too Nawin."
One by one the group start entering the gateway. The Queen, Valerie, and Elmenhilde all waves goodbye. "Take care, Gasper! "I promise I will! Bye Valerie!" Gasper shouts back, waving widely before turning around and runs in the gateway. The last left is the Black Flash. "See you next time, Nawin," Valerie says with a soft smile "Yeah... goodbye, Valerie" Nawin replies and gives a short wave before turning around and disappearing through the gateway.
And that's a wrap for this mini-arc in Vamhaven!
I want to say thank you, everyone, for the fantastic support you all have given me and the book this year. It's been a joy writing it and seeing all of you enjoying each chapter being published. Without all support, this book would have never reached the height it is on right now.
Just a note, I'll be taking a break for some weeks to recharge and enjoy the holiday with my family. January is pretty much a relaxing month for us. So, I'll be spending time with them!
After that, I'll come back strong with the continuation for this arc! The next story-line will be a one to remembered! I'll make sure of it.
Now, let's look forward to 2019! Hope it'll be an incredible year for all of us!
